Digital Circus AMA Notes
Digital Circus is getting a season 1 at some point!!!!
#webcore aesthetic board for the series design
Pomni was going to be a frog originally. 🐸
90s toys Zooble inspo
Caine is an antagonist, but not by active choice, he doesn't know he's not helping. He doesn't feel a whole spectrum of human emotions (he's an AI).
"Caine canonically just lets things happen if he thinks it's funny."
Characters eat like Chao in Chao garden in Sonic. The characters can eat the food, but they can't digest it.
Jax's favorite food is spaghetti.
Pomni likes salmon.
Q "Was the ending a 'Last Supper' reference?" A "in a very superficial kinda way yeah." Religious stuff is sometimes just used for the funny.
Gooseworx tumblr sketches MAY or MAY NOT be canon to the series, so it's up in the air for every single one.
People can abstract from feeling too much pain if it breaks their mind from it being too much. Characters feel pain from things, but not as intensely as they would in real life.
Zooble is gonna swap parts every episode (implying they have spare parts) except their body & head.
Jax chose his own name & gooseworx likes to think he chose Gangle's name.
Ragatha was named "Emmy" originally.
They (the cast of characters trapped in the circus) can't change their clothes but Caine can. It's part of their skin sorta kinda.
There's empty space under Pomni's hat because video game model physics.
Spamton was partially inspo for Caine, Caine's VA did Spamton dubs.
Gangle only has 2 masks. Why's it (her hapiness mask) break all the time? Mental state, but the "real her" is "harder to break."
Kaumfo was gonna be part of the main cast originally before Jax.
Kaufmo's model has nothing below the waist at this time, but was made for that promotional image on twitter.
Q "What kinda person was Kaufmo?" A "He was the same as Ragatha in a sense, goofy & cheery, sometimes toxic levels of positivity."
I'm paraphrasing for the sake of note taking in real time, go watch the stream playback for more context & details if you want.

stultifera navis rerun AKA thinking about Iberia hours again because a lot of the Iberians have such fascinating relationships with the concept of home but specifically Thorns and Lumen are eating at my brain. like where do you call home when the place that is your home Just Fucking Hates You? Elysium's rewinding breeze specifically makes a point to hammers home how differently Iberia treats its Liberi and its Aegir
(which is especially interesting since this comes right after a conversation where Purestream commented on how despite Leizi being a high ranking government official, there are still some experiences that are universal for all Yanese people - because the experience of what Iberia itself is like isnt universal for all Iberians)
But all that being said, Thorns also straight up states that Aegir is not his home, and yeah, how could it be? How could a place you've never been to, never truly known, ever be your home? How could it ever feel like a home?
so where do you go when the place that you are from hates your people and the place your people are from is completely unfamiliar and alien to you? Thorns' answer at the end of the conversation with Aya is: my home is where i chose it to be. my home is where there are people I care about and people who care about me
in the complete opposite direction, Lumen's oprec asks: why do you still stay in a place that wants you gone? because the people of Gran Faro like Jordi well enough but when push comes to shove, they will want the only Aegir in town gone
and yet, when Rald the messenger offers him a chance to leave Jordi turns him down and when he's forced to escape Gran Faro after the people there literally try to send him to his death (or worse) at the hands of the Inquisitors he keeps trying to go back because like everyone in stultifera navis, Jordi is clinging to his own dreams of a golden age
but the shape of that dream is unique to every character and for Jordi, his dreams are deeply, inseparably bound to the Eye of Iberia, the legacy his parents left behind
and it's this dream of becoming someone great, of bringing about that golden age that his parents devoted their lives to help create that ties Jordi to this nothing town because despite everything, despite the mistrust of the townsfolk and the hostility of the Inquisition and the danger from the ocean, he simply cannot leave it behind
(or, because i personally dislike the official translation,)
"I just see this place as my home"
so yeah. not sure what overall point i was trying to make here i'm just. deeply in love with these stories about chosing what is and isn't your home, of saying you will not call a place your home because it has given you no reason to or saying you consider a place your home even though it has given you every reason not to. deeply unwell about them <3

ohhhh gortash would be so into branding you.
though maybe he'd find the idea of a tattoo more appealing, because he could draw out the process even longer and make it more painful. same goes for raphael.
Gortash is cruel, but I think he’d save a true brand for only the worst headaches. Biters, fighters, general nuisances. The grand majority of you? Well, a tattoo will get his point across plenty loud. He has you sat on his lap, chin resting on your shoulder. The way he holds you is clearly meant to be comforting, but it makes trying not to squirm even harder. The tattoo artist refuses to talk or look up at you. You’re sure he was paid extra. The needle scratches along your hip and your eyelids flutter closed. If you've gotten a tattoo before, you can tell the artist is incredibly heavy-handed. Outrageously so. You're sure he was paid for that too. If you've never been tattooed before you swear you can feel the needle tearing through your skin, burning and cutting all at once. It takes everything in your power not to move. You're afraid of what Gortash would do if you wasted his money. It feels like forever when the artist finally pulls away. The skin is throbbing, and you start to shake as you will your body to relax. He smiles against your cheek, his fingers skimming just outside the irritated area. Normally you detest his cold rings. Now, they're a blessing. His chest vibrates against your back as he mumbles. How pretty. Look, dear. You do, and you recognize it instantly. It's his signature stamp. The one he leaves at the bottom of every letter and on the side of every crate that shipped out his weapons. You feel sick. You feel like cattle. You feel like his death would no longer be enough to scrub the memory of him off of you. Regardless of whether you're the type to keep a stiff lip or if this revelation would be enough to bring on tears, he ignores you all the same. There. He can sleep easy now knowing if you ever get away again, everyone will know exactly who to bring you home to.
Raphael I think would also be into branding as an extreme punishment, but you’d have to be a favorite pet. One he plans on keeping for a long, long time. A tattoo would be a punishment for those he deems not as worthy. A more permanent reminder of your disobedience. He could snap his fingers, make a tattoo appear instantly. Painlessly. He won't, of course. There's no fun in that. He sits back in his chair, chin rested on his palm as he watches the ink slowly etch itself into the skin below your collarbone. A small mercy is you can squirm and writhe as you like, the ink merely appearing and disappearing as he wishes. It burns like a real needle though, sometimes worse. You don't understand how something incorporeal can go so deep. The moving he doesn't mind, the noises he does. Quiet yourself, mouse. He's trying to focus. When it's finally over he places an ornate mirror in your hand. Ink and blood drip down your skin from the infernal markings. The script is pretty, flowery, but you can't make out what it spells. If you risk asking, he laughs. That's not for you to worry about, pet. Now run along and clean yourself up. He won't have you traipsing around looking like such a mess.
