Yesterday was a day. Wasnt feeling good in the first place. Accidently triggered my ptsd at work, almost had a panic attack in the city while trying to buy some clothing, got badly overwhelmed so all the different fabric textures were suddenly super bad to touch, had some not so good interactions, didnt even find something good to buy after multiple hours, went home totally exhausted, cried a lil and immidiatly fell asleep.

Slept for around 12 hours.

Still bad with textures rn but atleast feeling generally better.

Sorry for ranting and it seems like i just really am having a bad time lately... i kinda dont wanna be a downer

So there's a reoccurring craving that I have, when I'm tired after a work day and there's this crystal clear sensation that what sounds good to me is a perfect fresh-baked cookie - and it's a strong-enough craving that if I weren't already tired I'd probably bake or even leave my comfy house go buy one or something, and heck, I might even work myself up into bothering to do it if I'm not having a bad body or bad brain day other than just being tired... but probably not, I just mostly sit there and pine a little bit until I assuage the craving with much less satisfying but adequate alternatives.

But now each time I end up with the longing for a fresh warm cookie... I also remember how years ago one time I had this craving I wrote a tumblr post where I wished idly that there was a home appliance I could buy that would bake me a fresh cookie with 0 effort on my part past pushing a button or whatever. And on that post, some middleaged dude decided to completely misunderstand the point of my post and mansplain to me in a long rant that as an engineer he knew such a robot would be ridiculous and could never (?) happen because didn't I know that cooking from scratch is far too expensive (???) and I should really just go get a subway (??????) cookie instead.

And it makes me laugh.

the maister system and the new 'find vocations out in the world' system is...ok, but I prefer the old colour system

#saint plays dd2 #like coming in as someone who knows nothing abt how DD:O worked DD2's vocation system feels like a major step back #95% of the augments are useless and aren't worth using so there's no real build variety anymore #nor is there any real weight to choosing what to run in terms of combat effectiveness and QoL stuff like carry weight anymore #bc there's only like 5-8 augments worth taking bc the stat bonus are insultingly low for the effort of leveling the vocation #and the colours feel arbitrary bc it's not a tree system anymore. thief is green bc it's green and there's no hybrid green #whereas in DD1 every base vocation had a hybrid colour mix and it made logical sense #strider (yellow) and mage (blue) became a magick archer. strider and fighter (red) doubled down on the melee and became assassin. #while keeping the bow as a sidearm. #pure red became warrior and dumped the shield for 2h colossal but slow attacks. pure blue sacrificed utility for highest tier damage spells #and so on. it just felt so much more intuitive and felt like actual growth when you could 'upgrade' to a hybrid vocation bc #you actually needed to have X number of ranks in both colours before you could take it whereas in 2 they're all just standalone classes #and the meister skill systems are....ok. I don't know how I feel abt all of them being connected to optional sidequests you can fuck up #or straight up just miss bc this game still has the weird design flaw of having points of no return where quests autofail #also like I feel to get the meister skill either you or your pawn should actually have like. maxed the vocation out. #like it feels weird when I get magick archer and then immediately unlock the meister skill at the same time #when I haven't even bought the vocation yet.

Thinking about the world that starts to take shape around Tirias's refusal to travel outside of majority-rooted areas. There's an implication that she has been there and got burned so bad that she'll never go back. She can hear but she can't speak and communicates primarily through sign language. Despite the fact that most other species do learn Osbok sign language in school, there's a much stronger culture of sign language usage in rooted areas than beyond them. You travel through the Forests, you know you'll be taken care of and taken seriously. You step outside of them, who knows what'll happen. Humans are already intimidated by her height, and asking them to use their half-remembered SOSL is apparently a step too far.

Oh, to be Ysa, even more intimidating but somehow able to put people at ease with just thons voice.

Which makes me wonder: is there a fear among human societies that the culture of the Forests - which itself is not homogenous - will take over the rest of the world? There must be on some level but it has to be harder for it to coalesce because there's an enormous population of roots that live outside of the forests, and have for pretty much ever, and nothing has happened to "human" cultures except that a lot of them also have roots participating in them, not to mention nawwenn. Some people think they're playing the long game - they live twice as long as humans, you know - but I would suspect your average human knows enough roots to reject that particular conspiracy.

So then, out of all the other species in Winchester, why has Dez only met humans?

#the answer is partly I forgot. #it's also partly that he hasn't been outside. The humans he knows are going to know other species that have not been to his house #but I think it might say something about the kinds of circles Anni and Julian and Zel put the most effort into. gotta consider that #it does make for an interesting character setup though. he hasn't had the opportunity to consider himself as a root #because in a lot of ways he's more a root than a human. and Tirias is low key his root role model #there is a real general tension about the power the Forest governments hold because of the network and Osbok #most people aren't really plugged into it. and of the governments that would go to war about it none of them will #because they get too much benefit out of these things. and the Forest would fucking obliterate them #that's what happened to Gurenii #now that I say that out loud maybe that's the angle I've been looking for. hmmmmm #the trick is to balance the Forests because on the whole they are not meant to be Villains TM. but they do hold a lot of strategic power #rose brambles #writing update #c: Tirias #c: Dez #wip: tfa
