Got a gk question you probably have the answer to but I was thinking about the ogata motivation reveal in 304 and how he wanted tsurumi to be his advisor after making him fake his death because he wanted his attention. This I get. What I'm confused about is why he was projecting his mother onto him while doing so? Ogata projecting his father onto him I get because tsurumi was deliberately cultivating that archetype to manipulate him but the tsurumi specific mommy issues felt kind of out of left field

ogata projecting his mother into tsurumi is more of a coincidental joke than a factual canonical occurrence, because of the panelling and the timing.

like these pages literally go one after the other in the chapter. his mother never looked at him. even though he was the one by her side, brought her food (which wasn't ankou), had her sing him to sleep, sick as she was, she never acknowledged him. this need to be acknowledged and looked at and appreciated has followed him his entire life, so when tsurumi (who promised to offer his aid regarding his getting ahead) started getting distracted by other things and taking his eyes off ogata, he didn't like it. but it's not that ogata projected his literal mother (or even father, for that matter) onto tsurumi. as far as projecting slights onto unrelated people goes, it was his projection of yuusaku onto asirpa that was the most offensive and straightforward, and even there it's not that he literally saw yuusaku's presence in her and flipped his lid, she just reminded him of what he hated yuusaku for (due to those traits strenghtening his own feelings of inadequacy) so he decided to be difficult about it
