Thinking about Venti's role as an archon and how he might be doing his job- as Celestia intended- better than we think.
Archons, in Gnosticism, rule over the material realm and prevent souls from leaving it. Barbatos, in the Ars Goetia, "reconciles disputes between friends and those who hold power".
Everything we know about Venti implies that he hates Celestia and opposes all forms of tyranny, but if their goal is to keep humanity from advancing, realising the truth of the world and taking actions that could threaten the status quo...
...isn't the best way to prevent rebellions and slow progress to make the people you rule content with what they have?
Venti is all about making his people's lives leisurely and seemingly free (I'll get to that in a second). It's in his gemstone quote, the thing which summarises his approach as an archon:
"Still, the winds change direction.
"Someday, they will blow towards a brighter future…
"Take my blessings and live leisurely from this day onward."
We see this reflected in Mondstadt's culture and economy. There are still hardworking individuals in the Knights of Favonius, the Church of Favonius and the Adventurer's Guild, but this attitude isn't universal even within those organisations and the rest of Mondstadt's people generally have a slow, relaxed approach to life relative to other nations. They haven't produced any internationally notable industries outside of alcohol, and why would they? They have everything they need, graciously provided by the anemo archon himself*, so why strive for more?
This has already left them vulnerable to the whims of more powerful nations, incapable of meaningfully opposing the Fatui without inviting consequences they can't handle.
*Also see Jean's story quest for a scaled-down version of this. Mondstadt's general population relies on her hard work a bit too much and she enables them.
We also see Mondstadt have a softening effect on outsiders multiple times in-game. There are at least three cases of people questioning their life choices because its people and/or scenery are that nice. Two are branches of hangout events, one is a soon-to-be-ex treasure hoarder chilling on Cider Lake's coast. I've joked that Mond is a lotus eater hotel scaled up to a nation based on this, but what if that's somewhat intentional?
But why would he do this?
It could be an unintended side effect of efforts to improve people's quality of life. He was allegedly naive enough not to forsee the aristocracy situation, after all. But at the same time... he's a god of freedom and hope in a world where his people have no hope of freedom.

He knows what happens to human civilisations that advance too far and attempt to rebel against this world. He likely knows a god much like him, themed around music and desperate to free his people from fate, tried and failed horribly. He lives in the shadow of a celestial needle. The Cataclysm would only reinforce this perceived futility of resistance. He still hopes for a brighter future, but he may be pinning all of his hopes on a descender taking pity on Teyvat's people and choosing to help them. To quote the description of Mondstadt Statues of the Seven:
A monumental stone statue that watches over Mondstadt. Legends say that it was sculpted in the image of the Anemo Archon. "Seeds brought by the wind will grow over time." The statue silently anticipates the arrival of a noble soul to arrive, while thousand winds of time will soon unfold a new story...
Apart from that, what else can he do besides be passive and complacent? Besides make his people comfortable and hope they don't rock the boat too much before liberation is actually possible?
And the thing about resolving disputes with those in power worries me. It could just translate into his pacifism, but it could also mean he's less willing to act against Celestia than we'd hope. Why did the Tsaritsa, the only archon named after a saint and willing to take a stand against Celestia, fall out with him? He has reasons to be pissed at her methods but I suspect that won't be the only factor.
All we can do is wait and see.

Puppy (R.R.)
PT. II
Summary: Meeting Roman Roy at a gala leads to other things or Roman Roy entrances you with those big hazel eyes.

Authors Note: My palate cleanser! I was originally going to shorten this all into one story but my brain is so fried right now. Not edited as always
You’d met Roman at a company gala, you were the plus one of a random schmuck Roman didn’t know. His eyes kept flitting towards you as you walked around the room. He couldn’t pinpoint why, maybe it was because you were hot or maybe because something about your presence commanded power. He could see the way your shoulders are squared back, your mouth moving like you’re not taking any shit. He decides to walk up to you as whoever you were talking to walks away.
“What brings you to this fickle fest at the chuckle factory?” He says, leaning against the cocktail table.
“A little bit of business and a little bit of pleasure,” You say, taking a sip of your champagne.
“Well, you certainly picked the right party of that second one. We are drowning in it in this crowd of the rich, the insufferable, and the wannabe,” He says, hazel eyes unmoving from yours.
You hum, taking another sip of your own drink, the bubbles sliding down your throat. Roman’s eyes follow the way your throat bobs when you drink down the expensive champagne. You can’t help but smirk at the way he seems so focused on you. Roman Roy should be off schmoozing some schmuck for his Daddy’s business but he’s here giving you those signature ‘fuck me’ eyes knowing god damn well he couldn’t if he wanted to.
He smiles back at you with that signature Roy smile, showing off all his perfect straight teeth.
“Is this when you finally tell me your name or do I have to keep calling you Miss Business and Pleasure?” He says.
“You can keep calling me that. I enjoy a little game of mystery,” you say walking around him. You skirt through the crowd until he loses you in the crowd. You turn your business side on and start schmoozing some potential clients.
Roman spends the rest of the night hunting for you. He sees the occasional glance but then you turn a corner or dip behind someone. He notices you talking business to one client and he takes his chance.
He goes to the same person and starts to subtly undercut what you’re saying to the client. He wants to see how you react. Unluckily for him you’re incredibly quick witted and unfazed. You meet his every undercut with your own.
Once the client leaves you turn to Roman with an smug smile knowing they liked you more
“Nice try Romulus, you’ll catch ‘em later tiger” you wink, a smug smile adorning your lips.
You’re skirted away by Kendall who grabs you by the elbow. He whispers something in your ear, eyes looking over to Roman that fire of competition in Kendall’s eyes. Roman can feel that heat in his gut bubble like pure rage. They’ve never been into the same type, why was Kendall picking you? Kendall walks away, phone to his ear.
Before Roman can approach you again someone else is greeting you with a fresh glass of champagne. Roman tries to look away, his eyes avoiding you at all cost but like a magnet, eyes flit back towards you. The way your lips move, your hand brushing off the strangers, your hand tightening around the glass before placing it on the cocktail table. Your eyes find Roman’s jealous gaze.
You excuse yourself walking towards Roman, you can practically feel his anger masked with faux cockiness.
“Who pissed in your cereal? Nevermind you look like you’d enjoy that type of thing,” You say, grabbing a fresh glass of champagne.
Roman is caught off guard by your comment. He feels his heart skip a beat. You’ve managed to get him in this one. He has an annoyed grunt but also is trying not to smile from how good of a quip it was.
He has to try and get you back so he says, “at least I’d have a nice bowl of cereal, Miss Business and Pleasure.”
You can’t help but laugh at his absurdity, “ I didn’t take you as a cereal eater” You say. Roman chuckles at that. He’s only met one person who could bounce off his quips this well.
“What do you take me for?” He says with the slightest hint of a smirk on his face.
“A 120 pounds wet, skips every meal, hair clumps falling out type” you say studying his body for a second.
Roman is taken aback. No one has ever come at him like that. He tries to act unbothered but when he feels his heart skip a beat after just a second of your inspection, he gives a bit of a smile.
“Is that so?” He says with a slight chuckle and a small smile. How had you seen him and broken him apart to his core so quickly? Most people couldn’t tell when he’d pushed expensive meals around. They're all too consumed with their own bullshit to notice Roman faking eating his meals and yet here you are reading him like a children’s book. Like he was the easiest thing to decipher.
You hum in agreement, handing a waiter your empty glass.
“Seems like my night has come to a finish Mr. Roy. I’ll see you, when I see you” you flash him a smile before walking out of the gala.

Starry night - the thought wandered Simon's mind when he first saw you.
Sapphire twilight blue wings with a few alternating gray stripes on each feather, iridescent under the beautiful moonlight. Amber eyes glowed as you furiously stared into his chestnut ones, your black horns and claws were dotted with white spots like stars beaming in the cimmerian sky. When the One-Four-One found you in the damp hold, not a single piece of clothing covering your body, only two lines of dragon-like scales with the exact same color as your wings, running from your shoulder blades down to indiscreetly cover your bosoms and private parts.
Harpies were described as brutal and bloodthirsty creatures with a hideous physique, mankind parents used those tales to scare their toddlers whenever they came home late. Flapdoodle. Here you sat, on Simon's bed as he carefully disinfected and bandaged the wounds on your gorgeous smooth skin.
“Son of a Biscuit Eater” you hissed. Simon's muscles tensed and his breath caught in his chest as your delicate eyebrows furrowed, the clean rag in his hand was gripped so tightly that it’s almost dried.
Just some more bruises on your face left but he couldn’t clean them at this angle, the blond accidentally touched the cut on your jawbone as his thick calloused fingers held your chin and tilted your head towards him. He withdrew his hand but still kept it in front of your face, giving you an anxious look.
“Please….I’m alright” Gently grasped the man's wrist with both of your hands, motioned him to continue as you pressed the rag to the wound on your jaw. Simon gulped, you hands were so tiny compared to his, yet the missing warmth where you two touched gave his stomach butterflies.
He nodded before continuing his work but with less force, felt like dandelions placed tender kisses on you.
Three firm knocks on the door broke the tension. Simon grunted, he just got some alone time with you and was already disturbed by god-knows-who. Gently checking your face once more, the blond threw his dirty rag into the basin of blood-red water, picked it up and walked towards the door. Outside was Soap, a callsign - you called him that to not mistaken with Captain Price. The gentlemen had introduced their names and callsigns for convenience and you reciprocated before Simon kidnapped you to his room.
“Wha' d’ ye want, Johnny?” The man’s lips growled beneath the cloth.
“Quit the nag, Ghost, brought clothes fo’ little lass” Soap peered inside and was blocked away by the blond's broad shoulders taking up the width of the entire doorway. You weren't dressed proper yet, couldn't let anyone see you completely bared, again, after the previous night.
“Tha’s trully kind of ye” A small hand clinging to Simon's meaty bicep caught the men’s attention, you walked over with a blanket wrapped around your body. The blanket slid down and exposed your collarbone as you reached out to the shorter man with a kind smile. Simon quickly pulled the blanket and wrapped it around you like a cocoon, you stood still, tried to stiff the laugh when Soap tossed the garment at Simon and left whistling as if to annoy him.
“Screw tha gibface” Aggresively closed the door, the blond grumbled before looked at you, "This’s the smallest we got, ‘ll get ye somethin’ to tie these culottes"
You turned your face to the side and chuckled, sounding like bird’s chirping to Simon’s ears. Whipping your head back, you slowly walked closer to the taller man as your hand tried to mute the laugh by covering your mouth.
“Wha’?” Simon raised his brow playfully at your adorable expression.
" 'll need to get changed, but if ye offer a hand…." You took the suit out of Simon's hand and gave him a mischievous look. The gentleman could only shake his head in disbelief, the cloth on his face definitely succeeded to cover a small smile formed on his lips before he absented from the room.

Panting like an exhausted animal, Simon's body was covered in a sheen of sweat and his chest was heaving rapidly. Coming to his senses, he laid down on the luxurious mattress of the inn, put his hand on his forehead and tried to go back to sleep. The man hadn't had this nightmare for such a long time, the nightmare he never wanted to remember, but since the last job when Simon was injured, everything had changed.
Your party broke the deal and sold your team out - of course now that bilge rat's six feet underground with a bullet in his forehead - you and the blond were separated from the other three. Fortunately, Simon's injury was not severe, but the heavy snow did nothing but made his fever go south. There’s no other way but for Simon and you to hug each other, naked, to keep warm. Your wings wrapped tightly around him, delirium making the blond feel so intimate in your embrace, the warmth that he hadn't felt in years made the forgettable memories come back to haunt him again. Undoubtedly, you noticed Simon's strange behavior whenever the team mentioned that failed business, so you decided to go talk to him. The man wasn't good with words but he knew you'd only speak or act when you've considered everything prudently, plus he’s felt comfortable with the mindfulness you gave him.
Frankly, the gentlemen were not wrong letting you join the One-Four-One. Price always asked you to spar with Soap and Kyle so he could leisurely enjoy his cigars, knowing full well that you could deal with these two big boys. Guns were necessary but you rather chose swords or knives because “Even magic wouldn't help wet gunpowder”, you said. And Simon was indeed amused, you and the blond have a lot in common. Both of you despise loud noises or parties, but would never refuse elite booze. Simon’s aloof and you’re sweet but quite blunt and indifferent in your own way. If the two of you were next to each other, his mocking eyes and your sarcastic statements could humble some smug mouths with no difficulty.
Carriages’ wheels were still rumbling on the street, creating a headache-inducing noise and workers who got off work late were singing loudly in their drunken stupor. Simon gave up, dangling his legs off the bed, messy blond hair and tired eyes made him look even more haggard.
"Screw this" The man muttered and went straight to the bathroom.
Having filled the bathtub, Simon returned to the sink and began preparing the shaving foam. Out of the blue, the window opened and a strong wind rushed in, making the blond grab his gun and raised it towards danger, only to know it was you.
"Couldn’t sleep?" You said as you closed the window, walked towards Simon and gently took the deadly thing from his hand.
"Aye....ye’re back" The man relaxed his muscles.
Ever since joining as the mercenary in One-Four-One, the team called it a favor from you that they can hardly do without being spotted, scouting. Not assassination, they'd pull that easily, you sure.
You nodded, put down the gun and started taking off the hefty articles. Your leather boots were neatly stacked next to the cabinet, along with your pants. Your shirt's back was ruined by your wings, so as a habit, you naturally stole the man's shirt and put it on, knowing he would allow it. Simon stared at you in stoic, this wasn't a new sight but definitely his favorite - you stood there in his white tunic, the hem hardly covered your lower body as you raised your hands to tie your hair up hastily.
"Allow me, mister duffer" You leaned forward, grabbed the brush and the steel straight razor, walked up behind him. The blond scoffed and turned around, a towel wrapped around his waist and nothing more, you grinned and moved closer as Simon spread his legs for you to stand in between.
Having scraped out the foam with a brush and applied it to the man's face, you slowly spread the white mixture onto his masculine cheeks, majestic chin and square jaw. Simon placed one hand on your hip, the other reaching up to remove the stray lock away from your forehead, causing your focused gaze moved up to him.
"Wha’ ‘ve we known?"
"Well, bastards 've started loading the Pearl (the ship) but only one last cask has not yet exported, jus’ as announced" You swiftly flipped out the razor and twirled it in your hand.
"They're just gettin’ started" The blond mumbled.
"Hush now, ye're putting your life in my hands"
Tilting Simon's head to the side, starting from his cheekbone, you finished with the razor leaving his jawbone with a clean line. Gently flicked the foam into the sink, you cleaned the blade with the towel on the man's thigh and continued until the left cheek appeared smooth.
“Pleased?” Simon asked as you moved back a little to get a perfect angle of his face, just like an artist was indeed satisfied by her sculpture.
“Hmm…quite delightful, sir” Could hear the blond's amused laugh because of your committed face.
“ ‘Sir’? Ye truly a chaff, doll” Simon slightly shakes his head before turning the other side to you.
You chuckled, started working on the right cheek and the area under his chin, careful not to touch his Adam's apple.
“All done” You placed the cleaned razor to the side and mildly rubbed away the foam on his handsome face. Walking to the tub and dipping your arm to the water, it was steamy when you startled Simon by breaking into the bathroom but the temperature seemed to cool down a little, lukewarm perhaps.
“Come now, water’s ready”
Simon nodded before standing straight up and stripped off the towel around his waist to the cold marble floor. Didn’t say a word, the man casting his enormous shadow over you as his hulking frame approached your smaller. He unbuttoned the white tunic and peeled it off your body, no permission required, he slowly bent down to strip the last cloth which covered your private gem.
Simon entered the bathtub and gingerly placed you on his lap, face to face. You massaged his scalp with your soapy hands, gently put more pressure as you moved down his neck and tense shoulders. The man eased up as your hands roamed his torso, straight and wet dense hair laying flat against his skin and sturdy abdomen with soft plush on two rib sides shown how well-fed they got.
The blond purred as you tended to his tired body, small and caring hands, avoiding sensitive places, merely cleaning him. Fresh water poured down from the top of his head, washing away the lather that smelled faintly of perfume scent. Simon's half-lidded eyes peered down as your soft lips pressed on each scar scattered his figure, your paps lightly scraped against his body, leaving an prodigious itchy sensation.
"Ye wanna talk, Si?" You whispered, your ear pressed against his chest where his heart was beating steadily. The nickname which only allowed to be called by your angelic voice.
"Wanna savor this with ye" The man replied with a low tone, semi-hard shaft twitching in eagerness as his hand lazily rubbed your back. You knew this’s a normal physiological response.
How ironic it was that Simon and you were neither lovers nor spouses, even though your desire for each other was undeniable. Yes, both of your families encountered terrible circumstances and wounds on your bodies were absolutely not beautiful memories. Sympathy perhaps - the two of you listen, comfort, and mingle with one another. That's Friendship, certainly, but love, how ambiguous. The yearning was explicit but is it amour or just physical affection? You two understanded the pain and the loneliness, not afraid to open up but there were plenty of secrets left unsaid still.
Familiar corporeal touch was clearly trust and concern, no sexual desire contained and none of you dared to cross this fragile boundary. Awkwardness couldn’t overcome the cowardice because Simon was rigid and you were too coy.
You didn't answer, just pressed endearing kisses to his long lashes as he replied the same on your wet hair. The two of you lingered for a long moment before getting out of the cold water due to your non-stop sneezes.

Character Profile: Theodore Nott
I. Canon
II. My headcanons
• Theodore’s parents struggled to conceive him. As fanon has it, Theodore’s mother was as “elderly” as his father, and the couple struggled to have a child. The meaning of Theodore’s name, “gift of the gods”, also corroborates that.
• His mother died when he was a child, or perhaps even in childbirth. Another popular fanon theory I accept: it was witnessing his mother’s death that enabled Theodore to see Thestrals.
• His father was cold and distant. Nott Sr was the type of stoic pureblood who expects his wife to do all the child-rearing, but his wife wasn’t there. Besides that, I have more questions than answers about Theodore’s family:
- Did his father and mother have a good relationship?
- Did his father resent his mother for struggling to conceive?
- How much time did Theodore get with his mother?
- If she died in/due to childbirth, does Nott Sr resent Theodore for it?
- Or does he love his son but just doesn’t know how to show it?
• Theodore is a pretentious nerd. Growing up without much company, he found refuge in books, libraries, and the persona of the independent intellectual who doesn’t need anyone.
• He uses intellectuality and logic as shield from feelings and trauma. He pretends everything is cold rationality, so he can act like nothing actually affects him. He’s never had a model for dealing with emotions in any way other than shutting them off.
• Theodore hates being called “Theo”. He finds it condescending, and finds nicknames in general overly-familiar. Fortunately, the Slytherin boys all call each other by their surnames; Pansy is the only classmate who calls him “Theo” anyway, just to annoy him.
• He doesn’t rely on external validation. He didn’t have that growing up, so he’s had to learn to do without. Unlike Draco or even Blaise, Theodore doesn’t feel the need to show off or put others down. Being self-assured of his superiority in his own mind is usually enough for him.
• He finds the Death Eaters contemptible. Since Theodore “does not feel the need to join gangs, including Malfoy’s”, I imagine him equally uninterested in Voldemort’s gang. He might believe in pureblood supremacy, might even find it important to have someone defend it, but he doesn’t romanticise fighting for a cause. Intimately familiar with death from a young age and with no reason to admire his father, Theodore is cynical about war and politics.
• He’s quiet. He reads, writes, listens, and observes much more than he talks.
• He keeps his opinions to himself. Saying the wrong thing at home could easily put his father in a bad mood, so he’s learnt to be strategic about speaking. He does love to correct others and call out their logical fallacies, though, and uses contrarianism as deflection.
• He sees people from a detached distance, as if they’re potential characters for a novel, or psychology case studies. This is a simultaneously contemptuous and non-judgemental worldview: humans simply behave the way they behave, they’re not any different from objects affected by scientific laws (or magical laws?). Only a few people — Theodore and the thinkers he admires — manage to exercise true critical thinking and go beyond inertia.
• He has a crush (or a squish) on Draco. Theodore can’t help finding Draco’s flamboyant personality and sheltered naivety endearing. However, he tries to repress this, because affection is silly and he doesn’t want to get attached. When Draco joins the Death Eaters, Theodore immediately knows Draco isn’t cut out for it, and Theodore feels conflicted, but at least partly validated in his fear of loss.
• Draco is conflicted about Theodore. Sometimes Draco appreciates that Theodore is a good listener and can hold an intelligent conversation, but sometimes Theodore feels safe enough to challenge Draco too much, ironically driving Draco back to his usual yes-people.
• Theodore is eventually forced to confront his humanity. Maybe after Hogwarts he finds himself completely alone and realises he doesn’t like that. Maybe his father dies and he can’t ignore his mixed feelings about it. Maybe he decides to pursue Draco romantically.

- Nyx, a Star Eater, took damage when she collided with Earth (Book: Persona 3 Club). The debris created the Moon and, while Nyx' psyche was trapped on Earth, her body was enclosed in the Moon.
- Fragments from Nyx' body, called Plumes of Dusk, fell on Earth (Book: Persona 3 Club).
- Nyx began the long process of healing her physical body.
- In order to fight Nyx' psyche, the primitive life on Earth indirectly created the Collective Unconscious (Book: Persona 3 Club), connecting all the souls on Earth through the Sea of Souls. Nyx' psyche was sealed here.

"Other Friends" remains an earwormy bop.
"The Hammer" focuses a bit too much on the sports part and not enough on the villainy, whereas "Evil Food Eater Conchita" has fucking cannibalism galore.

This AU is, even more so than the Empires part of this AU, just me shoving the Hermits into the Blaseball universe and letting it happen.
The only people who are even sort of replacing an actual Blaseball player are Cleo, Joe, and Gem.
Cleo is our Jaylen. She pitches for the Kansas City Breath Mints, and is the best pitcher in the league, and when the Forbidden Book opens, she dies. Her intended replacement is False Symmetry II, aka Empires!False, but when the Forbidden Book is opened in the Empires, Hermitcraft, and Life Series universes all at once, everything gets a little muddled, and everyone comes out of it a little muddled. The biggest change is that Cleo is instead replaced by Gemini Tay, the newly generated player from the Empires world who was meant to replace Xornoth.
When she is resurrected at the end of season 6, Joe goes into the Shadows in exchange. Within a few seasons, he is able to leave the Shadows and bats for the Breath Mints for about a season, afterwards he is transferred to the Seattle Garages, where he stays. I am not putting him back in the Shadows because it makes me kind of sad.
Cub and Jevin are both players for the Thieves, so they get cursed as a result of the boss fight against the Shelled One. We will resolve that later. Hels, despite being on the Crabs, does not get cursed, because he doesn’t join the Crabs until after they return from ascension.
Other than that, the Hermits are just sort of Existing in the world of Blaseball. Evil X and Hels are both created in similar ways to Evil Twin and Bontgomery Mullock, which is to say, Blessings break and accidentally clone a guy, so we just slightly edit one of their names and keep going. Don’t worry about it.
At one point during Expansion, while the Reroll Will is still in effect, fans of the Thieves attempt to reroll the Flinch modifier that Cub got as a side effect of fighting god and losing that one time. It gets rerolled into Debt, in a similar vein to what happened to Silvaire Roadhouse, but because he’s on the Thieves, he actually gets to kill people. Good for him. Jevin’s Flinch modifier also gets rerolled, but he gets Reverberating. Good for him, but in a different direction.

Gojira: The OG Classic 10/10
Godzilla Raids Again: Not as good, but lay the groundwork for future films 6/10
King Kong vs Godzilla: Could be better, but DAMN is Kong ugly 7/10
Mothra vs Godzilla: If not for the stupid larva scene, one of the best 8/10
Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster: The original Avengers movie 8/10
Invasion of Astro Monster: Who got their Star Trek in my Godzilla? 6/10
Ebirah, Horror of the Deep: How did we go from two Ghidorah movies to a lobster!? 5/10
Son of Godzilla: Surprisingly heartwarming, if you ignore Godzilla's butt-ugly design 6/10
Destroy All Monsters: Kind of a slog, but still nostalgic 8/10
Godzilla's Revenge: For a kid's entry point into the Godzilla franchise, not that bad. 5/10
