Who fell first/who fell harder? Love language. Pet names.
Revali:
He fell first, but you fell harder. It wasn't obvious at first, but the way he looked at people, who you spend a lot of time with, who made you laugh. He was sooo jealous. Spinning around you, showing why he is better option then guy you just talked to.
His love language is quality time. He is ready to spend every minute with you, showing off or just talking. At first you will think he is just annoying as hell, but after some talks he would find way to make you comfortable. Even if it means that he should ask someone about things you like.
Pet names, huh? "Darling, sweetheart, little sparrow, birdie". (No one can change my mind:) And it doesn't really matter if you aren't rito)
Sidon:
You fell first, but he fell harder. This man told you about his feelings as soon as they appeared, so no way you won't know about that. And he never would be ashamed!
His love language is physical contact. Really. Every time you are around he is so touchy! Hugs, kisses, everything is here. He would literally hold onto your then he is sad. (You'll get double of that if it's Sidon+Yona)
Pet names are difficult... Probably "Sunshine, pearl, love, my queen" and something like that.
Daruk:
He fell first, but you fell harder. It's a little complicated with him. He fell first, but it took some time to understand that. Probably someone from his fellow champions pointed at his affection towards you (he talked about you so much that others knew your favorite color and what is your favorite place in Hyrule) and it clicked.
His love language is quality time. Literally spending every second of his free time with you! But of course if you are comfortable with that. He knows then to stop.
He uses: "love, babe, jem, sweet cheeks" as nicknames for you. Sometimes "honey bun", telling you that you are as sweet as one.
Yunobo:
He fell first and he fell harder. It's just the way he is. So sweet and cute. He cares about you deeply, and was so nervous to tell you what he feels, because he was scared he would ruin your friendship. (You probably was the first one to confess)
Gifts! And a lot! Yeah. His love language is gift giving. He remembers every little thing that you mentioned in your talks, or you looked a little too long at market. And he will get it for you! He wants to make you happy! But if you do the same he would be so embarrassed to take something from you!
Can "goro" be called pet name? I think yes. If we talk about another options... "Sweetheart, my love, ruby (Yeah. Goron Ruby), baby, sunshine" will work, along with every sweet name he would master at moment.
Female characters here!
And my requests are open!

The whole sage thing must be especially weird for Yunobo, you know, since Gorons eat literal rocks and the Secret Stones look PARTICULARLY tasty. Imagine your ancestor just shows up after you fought... a really big bug or something. Just shows up and hands you a single jellybean, all like "take this and go save the world".
I'm saying, dude's got way too much trust in this orange fecker and his two whole braincells to not even put a disclaimer in his whole speech about how eating this specific rock is a BAD idea

What kinds of animals (if any) do Gorons keep as livestock?
[slaps the desk]
FINALLY i have results for everyone
the huuuuuuge rift of time between when i like .. got this ask and now means i at least had a good long time to think about this lmao
so, my first (silly) thought was if any enterprising and perhaps foolhardy Gorons had tried to keep Eldin Ostrich ? people keep ostriches for meat n eggs irl after all
Tumblr media
but yknow thats probably like ... a bad idea, eldin ostriches are stinky
next thought, travelling might not have been SUPER common for people during the era after the Calamity but surely there must have been some kind of consistent demand for fireproof elixirs over the years for people to just have them on hand to purchace. PERSONALLY i feel like collecting all those wild critters would be um annoying and depending on how healthy the environment around Eldin is, maybe not an awesome idea lmfao so ??
Tumblr media
Local Friend Keeps Smoky Butterflies In Conservatory?
Tumblr media
Kiddo and his chill lizard population ???
there's also what i'd call the Tarrey Town factor!
Tumblr media
Gorons are very large and strong, and friend shaped and helpful so i doubt any Hylian would pass up employing a Goron at a loose end for some farm work ! I'm sure there are gonna be some of them out there who have a passing knowledge of animal husbandry just from proximity to Hylians at least :3
this made me think a lot and also consider whether Zora might gently curate fish populations in certain areas because that feels sensible !
gerudo livestock || rito livestock canon animals || exploring animals 1 || exploring animals 2

Governance in Hyrule
A hundred years after the Calamity, the Hyrulean monarchy only exists in the form of a ruined castle and a legendary princess. Not much can be said about the monarchy in its absence, but it’s interesting to think about in relation to the other systems of governance in Hyrule.
Although the Zora have a royal family, they’re essentially living in a communist utopia of shared resources and communal living spaces. Everyone works according to their interests and talents, and individual disagreements are given voice but ultimately suppressed for the good of the group.
Rito society seems to be the opposite. Warriors are highly respected, and they act according to their own individual ideas of what they think is the best course of action. Kaneli, the chief of Rito Village, is a retired warrior whose role seems to be largely symbolic. Although the village chief is respected, he has no real control over the younger warriors.
Kakariko Village seems to operate somewhere in the middle. As the village elder, Impa maintains cultural lore and tradition, and she can suggest courses of action. Still, her role is symbolic, and she does not directly arbitrate disputes or issue commands.
The Yiga are a bunch of obnoxious theater kids who have formed a cult around the most obnoxious theater kid. They are an outlier and should not be counted.
The Gorons seem to be set up like a corporation. Bludo is the founder of the Goron Group Mining Company, and he oversees its operations and manages trade. He commands respect, but he isn’t particularly concerned with anything outside his own interests. A lot of people who work for him don’t agree with his decisions, but they take it for granted that “labor” is what they should be doing. The Gorons are modeled on a stereotype of the traditional working class of downtown Tokyo, and I think their portrayal is meant to be a lighthearted parody of working-class solidarity.
Riju is the only person even remotely resembling a true ruler, and she’s an almost platonic ideal of a just and benevolent sovereign. She commands soldiers, directly confronts outside threats, enforces security over the market, ensures the fair distribution of resources, holds audiences with advisors and individual citizens, and generally works to maintain the wellbeing of her people. The idea seems to be that, as the only actual city in Hyrule, Gerudo Town is the only place that requires an actual government.
Meanwhile, the Hylians seem to be doing just fine without any sort of government at all. They live in a beautiful and happy post-scarcity world where everyone has a place to live and enough to eat. Roads, bridges, and public stables are carefully maintained, and trade flows smoothly. People travel for pleasure and are free to pursue their own interests, whether it’s studying leviathan bones or writing magazine articles or hunting for mushrooms or searching for romance.
It feels like the only real function of the Hyrulean monarchy was to combat Ganon, and Ganon only exists in opposition to the monarchy. I don’t mean to suggest that the destruction and loss of life that occurred during the Calamity was a good thing, but maybe it wouldn’t be such a tragedy if the Hyrulean monarchy were to end with Zelda…?

Made a design of Yunobo, and subsequently Gorons for tloz totk!
This design is inspired by @ezlo-x ‘s design for Gorons!!! I’m super inspired by their art and I think it’s super incredible! I especially love their designs for the different races of Zelda, and this is actually a revised design cuz I thought my first design was too similar to theirs.

tell us about yunobo
why's he ur funky lil guy
id love to hear why
This is a very good ask I don’t think I’ve ever actually told anyone why I like Yunobo so much
Preemptive spoiler alert for both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom by the way
(Also this turned into a bit of a character analysis on Yunobo I’m so sorry it’s so ridiculously long lmao)
Personally my favorite Zelda “race” or whatever has always been gorons, huge fellas who mine rocks and eat rocks and are rocks, just big ol walking boulders with kind souls, I think they’re very silly and cute. But I really like Yunobo because he’s not really like any of the other gorons (He’s not like other girls!!), because he’s so much more… emotional? I guess? In each of the Goron race’s appearances throughout the Zelda games they’re portrayed pretty much the same way, either tough and brave and heroic (Like Darunia, Daruk and Darmani), or chill and generally nonchalant (Like… pretty much every other goron). Though they are kind and playful, they’re also tough and unmoving as stone. Yunobo (on a surface level), is neither of these things. When you first meet him in BotW he runs and yelps in fear, and a great portion of the fan base calls him a coward because of this. He’s very unsure of himself, and unsure of a lot of things in general. In the artbook “Creating a Champion”, his description is as follows:
“Yunobo is the grandchild of the Champion Daruk. He has an adult body but still has some growing up to do. He is easily frightened by monsters and isn't exactly what one might call brave, but, driven by thoughts of protecting his people, he gathers enough courage to aid Link in quelling the Divine Beast Vah Rudania. He is earnest and naive, readily believing nearly anything anyone tells him.”
So yeah. He’s a scaredy-cat. He’s a pushover. He’s incredibly naive and a bit childish.
AND YET.
He helped save his people, and the entirety of Hyrule… TWICE. Because he is brave. Bravery is not an immediate heroic desire to face any danger for the sake of the greater good.
It is action in spite of fear.
He is afraid. He’s unsure, and he’s flighty, and he’s defensive. But he swallows these fears and chooses to act in spite of them, helping link to take back control of Vah Rudania, and saving his people. For me, seeing the journey Yunobo takes to find his courage is a lot more satisfying than if he were just already a brave go-getter from the moment you meet him.
And then things get even more interesting in the second game (again, spoilers for TotK ahead).
After he helps Link take back Vah Rudania and Calamity Ganon is defeated, Yunobo goes right to helping his people recover from the the post-calamity craziness. He’s incredibly devoted to them. He’s a helper through and through, willing to do anything it takes for the sake of others. His loyalty knows absolutely no bounds. But unfortunately, this can get the better of him.
Like when his good friend “Zelda” shows up and gives him some weird mask and tells him to put it on.
Honestly, when I saw Yunobo for the first time in TotK, I was one of the many people who was terrified that Nintendo might have made him an asshole for no reason. I mean, they gave Sidon a wife so people would stop shipping him with Link, I wouldn’t put it past them (totally backfired though lol, now they’re just a polycule).
But instead they had actually put him into one of my favorite character tropes: self-conscious but good-natured character easily susceptible to corruption (See: Luigi [SPM], Bolin [TLoK], Locksley [AS:TNC] -they’re all also green for some reason? Crazy). I really like this particular trope because it shows the very real (and frankly scary) way that those with the best intentions can most easily be led astray. As someone who’s kinda struggled with having a people-pleaser personality (incredibly susceptible to peer-pressure, neglecting my own needs over the needs of others, not able to set boundaries, etc), this trope is a relatable cautionary tale for me. Those who just want to help more often than not end up helping those with bad intentions without realizing.
Buuuuut I won’t go too far into all that (it’ll get sad fast eugh)
My main point is that Yunobo is brave, kind, and loyal (even to a fault), and for me that’s a wonderful formula for a character as nervous and dopey as him. Yeah he’s got rocks for brains, but he’s got a heart as big as a lynel’s. I don’t throw this term around liberally but I would say he could definitely count as a himbo.
Ugggghhh this is getting too long ffs. I’ll just list a couple more reasons why he’s important to me specifically.
He is… very large. Ahem. I like big fellas. You know how it is. ANYWAY
He’s a bit dopey but he’s definitely not incompetent. He’s the president of a highly successful mining company and he’s helped save Goron City (and the entirety of Hyrule) TWICE. That’s pretty cool. I’ve seen a lot of people shit on him in the first game for “always getting spotted by the drones” but like. Dude that’s your fault. He told you he would come when called and stop when told to, it’s on you if he walks into a searchlight.
He’s got very intriguing lore (to me at least), that leaves a lot of room for speculation. Like, he’s the “grandson” of Daruk, but how does that work?? Gorons are born from the mountain itself, they don’t give birth. There’s a pair of Gorons in TotK that call themselves “brothers” (still a bit confusing since most gorons throughout the series call each other brother anyway), but they explain it was because they were born in the same cave at the same time, so they’re like family. Does this mean Yunobo was just born in the same cave Daruk was, and therefore inherited his “genes” and his magical abilities? Maybe! Maybe it’s a really cool special cave, right at the summit or something, where his whole lineage was born all the way back to the first sage of fire. Cool stuff to think about!
He’s not the leader of his people, in either game. That job belongs to Bludo. In the second game he’s definitely got a lot more influence and does occupy a position of leadership, but he’s not the chief. He’s just some Goron. The role of aiding link in both games is thrust onto him entirely because of his lineage. But he takes responsibility for it. He understands the power he holds, both as a champion’s descendant and as the Sage of Fire, and he steps up to the role. He feels a responsibility to his people and his city, even despite not being its official leader like the other champion’s descendants. That’s pretty cool.
He’s very sweet! I’ve talked about how kind and caring he is already but there’s a difference between doing it with a stoic sense of heroism or duty, and doing it with a big dopey grin and a genuine care for those he cares about. He’s often unsure and self-conscious, and yet he’s surprisingly optimistic about most things a lot of the time. He has a big smile (most gorons do), but he has an absolutely heart-melting laugh. I often tear up during the cutscene in which he sees the spirit of Daruk reclaiming Vah Rudania, him laughing and waving with such genuine joy and excitement, aghhhh it’s too much. Joe Hernandez certainly did a great job putting authenticity into Yunobo’s (and Daruk’s) emotions, this cutscene especially.
He has the best secret stone ability (gameplay wise). You cannot change my mind. Tulin is great for mobility and the other two are fine for tactical combat stuff, but none of them even come close to the versatility and power of Yunobo. Don’t have any good rock-breaking weapons and don’t want to use up bombs or zonai devices? Yunobo! Using a control stick-operated machine and can’t pull out your bow to snipe that pesky aerocuda? Yunobo! Wanna separate a big group of enemies from each other without wasting bombs? Yunobo! And don’t even get me started on the fact that when he’s on a vehicle, he’s got zero cooldown. You can hop on a hoverboard and decimate a molduga just by dribbling Yunobo on its head like a basketball.
All this being said I certainly think Yunobo is too often overlooked by fans for “being a coward”, or just… being a Goron? Gorons in general have often been a bit neglected in favor of the other more serious, conventionally attractive and *cough* slimmer *cough* Zelda races. It’s a bit disheartening seeing the amount of fan artists who don’t even have a clue how to approach drawing Yunobo or Daruk, simply because they don’t know how to draw bulky, fat or muscled characters. But I won’t preach too much on the subject, haha.
Long story short, I love Yunobo a whole lot and I’d love to give him a big hug and a smooch. That’s about it :))))
Also here’s a little sketch I made of him as a bonus for reading all that haha

TOTK Yunobo!!!!! He is a big boy but I think he was the easiest for me to draw, strangely.
I realized while drawing that Gorons kinda have a shell, which.... Kinda reminded me of Raph from ROTTMNT. And... Yeah they'd probably get along swell wouldn't they?

Was hosting a Ghirahim themed secret santa last year (it’s SO weird to say ‘last year’ already hfdjbjfg), I got @unironicallycringe to draw for who wanted Ghirahim (and maybe Link) in one of the MM mask transformations but... I may have drawn all the transformations instead cause I misread the prompt and I WAS HAVING WAY TOO MUCH FUN ANYWAY XD

I've been thinking a lot about Gorons. They're such odd creatures, right? Like, they look vaguely reptilian and vaguely humanoid, but more than anything they look like strange rock people. The series is historically vague on this but it's implied they're actually MADE of rock. They don't need to breathe, able to survive underwater with no issue. They're very resistant to high temperatures, they're heavy and durable. The thing is, they still eat. They move, they reproduce. So I was racking my brain trying to reconcile these things (I know it's a game, I know I don't need to take the lore so serious, but you can't put out multiple official encyclopedias and in-universe histories and not expect nerds to start asking questions.)
Tumblr media
So, here's the thing I've come to.
I think rocks in Zelda are alive. Not just gorons, rocks in general.
Okay okay that sounds like a lot but bare with me. There are plenty of enemies that shield themselves in rock, but we also have creatures like the stone talus in Breath of the Wild along with the miniature Pebblits, Scaldera in Skyward Sword, and some other examples I'll get to momentarily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's pretty obvious that Gorons eat rocks, but we also see that they can be pretty picky about WHICH rocks they're eating. They have a strong preference for Rock Roast/Rock Sirloin, which has a distinctly organic appearance, and an NPC in Tears of the Kingdom will pay you 1,000 rupees for a single piece of "ripened flint" (though less than 1/100 pieces of flint is ripened and the only way to tell the difference is to eat them, so good luck with that one). This seems to suggest that certain stone has unique properties.
Before I continue, minor story spoilers for Tears of the Kingdom ahead. Just some early game quest stuff.
We get another suggestion about the nature of the goron diet in the quest that takes us to Death Mountain and the Fire Temple in Tears of the Kingdom. We learn that "marbled rock roast," a new delicacy discovered and sold by the briefly brainwashed Yunobo, has taken Goron City by storm, and had some bizarre effect on the people who consume it. Basically they just sit around all day and eat it, it's... Not the most pressing threat they could've come up with, if I'm honest. But what's interesting is its source.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The two bosses faced during this quest, the titanic Moragia, a trio of stone worms, and Marbled Gohma, a new take on a familiar series staple, are both made of the same stone as the marbled rock roast. The same, very clearly living stone. It all disappears when Gohma dies, which suggests it was part of her, or (more distressingly) possibly her offspring parasitizing the Gorons.
So, if the marbled rock roast is pieces of Gohma, what about normal rock roast? Could that be some other living creature? Could ripened flint be an even more juvenile stage of the Pebblit and Talus life cycle? Are the gorons picky eaters, or are they part of a whole chain of life totally unlike anything in our world which happens to co-exist with the other, much more traditionally organic creatures of Hyrule? Who knows honestly, I just think it's fun to think that some percentage of the rocks in Hyrule are actually living creatures which happen to resemble rocks and that's the real staple of the goron diet. Makes more sense than them actually just eating stone.
