a recent ask brings an interesting idea. If Peccy finds out about I.M.P.s services, would he hire them to hunt down his former master? An addid motive being to see if it gives him access to his original powers?

Who is Peccantum?

Honestly, I've had an idea about this before Hazbin Hotel came out. I've been obsessed with Helluva Boss before and so I've thought about this a lot lol. I don't have time to do a comic off this... So I wrote it instead!

Just a Quote

The sinner in front of Blitz was late.

It wasn't uncommon for that to happen but like... Come on! If you're going to make an appointment, you sure as fuck better be there. But this guy was late, fifteen minutes late, to be exact. He had apologized more than once, saying something about... The princess of hell? Blitz wasn't really interested. All he wanted was to get this guy's order, payment, and then get him out.

Unfortunately for Blitz, this sinner seemed to have other plans.

The twink deer couldn't have been that old. He certainly didn't stink of the human world, but his face was young and his eyes were wide and round. The freckles and long hair didn't help either. Yet, all this contrasted with the very serious look on his face.

He was still fifteen minutes late, and regardless of how good someone looked, Blitz wasn't too happy about that.

"Soooo, you've already wasted some of my time," Blitz leaned back in his chair as the sinner took a seat opposite him, "Let's get the small talk bullshit out of the way quick. I'm Blitz, the O is silent! I'm the head of I.M.P. and I'm a professional murderer!"

The deer twink nodded, still very stiff and tense. He was sitting too straight for Blitz liking, back not resting against the chair and palms against his knees. Those white eyes stared at Blitz a little too long, before darting away.

"I'm Peccantum, and I need someone killed." The sinner replied evenly.

"Well aren't we a match made in hell!" Blitz leaned forward, taking his feet off the desk, "We don't do business in hell though, just warning. We are strictly topside only."

Peccantum nodded in the exact same way as before, "I heard. You target living souls who have wronged those in hell."

"Eh, something like that." Blitz waved off the question and continued quickly, "So, who's the bastard you're looking to off? An ex boyfriend? A teacher? A parent? You got daddy issues?"

There was a slight shake of Peccantum's head before the sinner raised a hand to dismiss the suggestions, "I'm just here for a quote."

At that, Blitz irritation bubbled to the surface. There were plenty of assholes who like to window shop, and they always bothered Blitz when they did so. His time could be used better elsewhere.

"Look, our services are pretty expensive-"

"I have the money." Peccantum interrupted him, "And I'm not here to shop around. I'm just.... Not sure I want him dead."

Blitz raised an eyebrow. That boded a little better. An unsure client could be persuaded if he pushed the right buttons, but he'd need to know more first.

"Want who dead exactly?" He asked.

The sinner took a deep breath, then asked a question Blitz hadn't been expecting.

"Do you work with the Goetias at all?"

Blitz's mind immediately brought up an image of Stolas, bowing to him outside the car window. He flicked it away with irritation. He wasn't thinking about Stolas on his own time, not after Ozzie's.

"Maybe, why?" He asked, his tone harsher than he meant it to be.

"Are they related to Andrealphus?"

"Uh...." Blitz paused but shook his head, "No, no, I don't think so?"

Peccantum's shoulders relaxed slightly, but his gaze remained fixed on the wall behind Blitz, almost seeming glazed over. He didn't answer Blitz unspoken question of 'Why' when he spoke again.

"I need you to kill a cult leader on earth."

Before Blitz could respond, Peccantum continued.

"I'll be as brief as I can be, he runs a cult on a ranch where he raises deer as livestock. The ranch is in the middle of the Rockies, thirty miles from the nearest town, and is about three acres. He usually sleeps in the main house with his wife, on the second floor. There is a window on the north side, but little to no trees or scaffolding nearby.

Blitz listened, partially in puzzlement, partially collecting the details of the mission. It was surprising to hear concise information like this without getting a sob story about how the target deserved to die. It was nice to skip all the small talk but unfortunately, it didn't give him much to work with if he wanted to convince the client.

"Doesn't sound too hard." He admitted when Peccantum finally paused, "We can just get him when he's working. It's just a farm, right?"

The sinner looked at Blitz, and that glazed over look returned.

"He's surrounded by anywhere from three to twenty people at any time." Peccantum's voice was quiet this time, "He's talented in demonic magic, including shielding himself from attack. He has near complete influence over the hundred or so members of his cult, many of whom are armed or combat trained. He is also an earthly point of contact for some of Hell's nobility."

"Well... Shit!" Blitz leaned back in his chair.

That certainly complicated matters, but it wasn't impossible. If this asshole was familiar with hell, and if his connections knew about his murder... Well it could spell trouble for I.M.P. down here, which Blitz wasn't keen on. Especially if it was Goetia drama, he'd already had enough of that. But for the right price...

"So. Would it be possible?" Peccantum asked, breaking Blitz from his thoughts.

"Psh, of course we can kill him! He's mortal isn't he? If he can bleed he can die." Blitz stood up and walked around his desk, scratching his chin, "But a target like that will cost extra, especially if you want it to look like an accident."

Blitz leaned against his desk, "I'd say somewhere around fifty-four grand. Can you manage that?"

The sinner's white eyes flicked away from Blitz, onto the floor this time, "I can," he confirmed, "But I have some questions first."

"Sure." Blitz shrugged, "Ask away."

"Do you use angelic weapons?" Peccantum asked, looking at Blitz intently.

"Mh. No, but a regular bullet works just as well for you humans." Blitz replied, "Shouldn't be an issue."

Peccantum's face tightened some at his response. Blitz paused. Was there an issue with that?

"Do you have anyone skilled in arcane arts?" Came the next question.

"We're assassins, okay, not nerdish prudes." Blitz rolled his eyes, "We've got Luna, but most of the time we just use guns to kill things. Like assassin's do."

Again, Peccantum looked more concerned than ever, and more tense. Blitz internally sighed, this wasn't going well. He had a feeling this wouldn't be fruitful.

"Do you have any way of stopping a target's soul from descending to hell?" Peccantum asked, almost sounding urgent.

Yup. This wasn't going to be good.

"No." He replied, crossing his arms, "What happens after the kill is none of our business. Buuut! If you got beef, you'll be able to settle it down here!"

Blitz almost regretted saying that. The moment he did, he could see Peccantum turn white as a ghost. His whole body seized up, and fear crossed over his face. It was more of an extreme reaction than he had been expecting.

"I.... I think I'll be fine, then." Peccantum stood a little too quickly, "Thank you for your uh.... time? I'll be out of your hair."

Blitz didn't stop the sinner as he tried to leave, but figured he should at least try to make a sale. Damn responsibility and all that. Not to mention the potential payday.... So, in a half-hearted attempt to salvage something, he called out to Peccantum who had his hand on the door.

"He killed you, didn't he? Surely you wanna make him suffer for that."

Peccantum froze, the knob in his hand halfway turned. He was quiet. But that quiet only lasted a moment.

"Honestly? I hope he lives a very long life."

And with that, Peccantum left.

Peccantum wasn't too worried about his boss, more confused than anything.... and a bit salty that he had to pay up to Pentious. At least that's one theory crossed off his board!

A Fallen Bluebird

Fallen Emily AU

Finally got around to this! Here's a fully colored reference of my fav bluebird fallen angel!

Def tried to keep a cooler color scheme, as that makes her stand out in hell. The teardrop patterns on the dress turn to eyes and her halo turns into horns when she's upset! I really liked her short hair, so I kept that, and the torn dress makes her feel more "fallen" than if she was whole. Kept her white nails tho.

Not to mention the whole point of HH is the exterminations were unjustifiable because the idea of Hell rising up against Heaven was an imagined problem. If Hell did decide to rebel against Heaven that dick Adam and her unhinged lieutenant were Right All Along™ and thus the Hotel is made meaningless.

I would usually agree. I would say that it's all on Sera's head and she's acting preemptively to stop something that won't happen. I would say that Adam used that unfounded fear to plant an idea and make the extermination happen....

However

In Episode 3 we see those fears aren't unfounded. Velvette and the Vee's came up with an assault plan the moment they realized that Angels weren't invulnerable. They were ready to take the fight to heaven the moment they knew they could, and since we'll be seeing more of them in season 2, I don't doubt they haven't changed their plans.

It unfortunately makes sense. War criminals, corrupt political leaders, those people are in Hell too. People who would want to attack Heaven and get revenge for the Exterminations. People who would want to make Heaven another Hell and don't care who they have to hurt to make that happen.

Sera's fear isn't unfounded. There are people who would want to tear Heaven out of the sky and watch it burn. There is reason to be cautious. Not cruel, of course, but wary of those who do not have good intentions.

However, to condemn all the sinners would be to condemn people like Angel Dust. Angel, who's killed in his lifetime. Angel who had no choice in how he was born. Angel who loves his friends so dearly he'd risk his afterlife for them. Angel who wants to spare his friends from suffering. This black and white view refuses all the nuance and depth that humans have.

It's complicated

Hazbin Hotel plays in the grey area of things, it never makes a story simple, and instead keeps it complicated and messy. It's more complicated than children's media is allowed to be and it plays with those messy adult themes well. The point is that there are no easy solutions, and viewing the world as 'good' or 'bad' refuses room for understanding.

Like you said, rising up would just kind of prove heaven right, at least in their eyes. And in the end, Hell wouldn't even win. It's a lose-lose situation if a war breaks out.

But that's just my take on it ^v^ I really like the show and analyzing it. Plus, those themes are ones I LOVE working with. I like it when things are messy, but not hopeless. Which, of course, Hazbin Hotel fits right into.

What if fallen Emily decided to go down the Paradise Lost route and declare war to heaven? And Vaggie and Charlie have to stop her before she does something stupid and dangerous that would doom her?

I can't say much about Emily because, while this may not be the path I go down, I also don't want to spoil anything. However, I will give my thoughts on one thing.

Hell should not want a war with Heaven

I have several reasons for this thought, not just that war is bad. Firstly, Hell's Population is lower or equal to than that of Heaven's. Heaven also has access to more resources to fight with. While the demons in hell can be cruel and powerful, there are just as powerful beings in heaven.

Even though Charlie won her battle, in a full on war between Heaven and Hell, Hell would likely lose. While I would love to see cathartic retribution, logically it just... Wouldn't work as well as one would hope. Here's why.

Population

In terms of soldier numbers, Heaven has more souls. Not to say that more souls go to Heaven than Hell, but Hell has been suffering through extermination depleting it's populous for eons. In Episode 3, we are told that 19% was a brutal percent of the population to be killed in extermination. Even if we assume that 10% is usual for the exterminations (it may be a bit low) 10% over thousands of years would reduce Hell's population significantly.

Even if we are to assume that people go to Hell more than Heaven, the souls in heaven don't die and Heaven's population is ever expanding. Plus, people in hell seem to regularly kill each other in power grabs and use angelic weapons to do so. The exterminations have already done their job in handicapping Hell's power.

Resources

"Angelic Steel isn't common."

We hear this from Camilla Carmine, the expert in angelic weapons. In Hell she is the best source of this resource, which is the only thing that can kill angels. The only source of angelic steel is uncommon in Hell and much is unknown about it.

In Heaven, however, we see every angel in the angelic army with a white, steel tipped weapon. Even the name, Angelic steel, hints that this resource originates from Heaven. Heaven has the means to arm itself, even if it doesn't teach it's fighters how to defend themselves.

Speaking of teaching, if there was a side to teach a large number of its populace how to fight, which would be better at organizing to do so? We have seen the power structure of hell and how little people care about the royalty there. The overlords own souls, but they're divided. Heaven already has a force that is organized under a single leader, Adam. United we conquer, divided we fall.

Powers

We've seen Adam and what he can do compared to a regular Angel. No one but Lucifer stood a chance against him (RIP sir snake boi). We don't know if there's more like him in heaven, but we do know there was that heavenly court, and that they seem to be at the same level or higher than Adam. While Lucifer could certainly handle them one by one, he also would have to deal with Sera, who seems to be above him or equal to his power.

Conclusion

While it was empowering that Charlie kept most of her friends alive, in a full on War between Heaven and Hell, Hell would lose. Carmilla Carmine and Zestiel were right to be cautious of jumping to war. Doing so would be short sighted and, in the end, what would the point of it be? To overtake Heaven and make it as bad as Hell? It's not a question of bravery, it's a pointless endeavor.

Charlie wasn't being naive when she tried to go the diplomatic route. She's being pragmatic. Perhaps in an overly optimistic way, but solving this with violence is not going to turn out good for anyone.

Was working on this guy's design! Who is he? Don't worry about it, he won't be used for a while :)

Had fun with this design! There's a lot of double meaning and symbolism in a lot of the details here. I was trying to mix a wolf and a hunter for the first look, and used the scarf as the Stole in the second. The hunters orange inspired this color pallet of reds, oranges, browns and yellows. Had a bit of trouble with the nose until I decided 'fuck it, he's a skeleton now'.

no but for serious, I. Am. So. In. Love. With your series. the art, the dynamics, the designs, the lore, all of it ALL OF IT. you worked peccantum into the series events so smoothly like whaaaaat

A couple questions I have, and then I'll be out of your hair:

Does Peccantum have any preferred nicknames? I saw someone call him Pec/Pecc once and I've been calling him Peccy in my head. I'm curious if there's an actual, creator-approved, nickname we can use

Do we get to know the full details of what Peccantum got out if his deal? Not tryna steal info you aren't ready to share but by lucifer is it eating at me !!

I don't know if you watch Helluva Boss, but considering og Peccantum (not hazbin version) is space-themed and you mention he decorates his room like space,,, it's totally improbable but WHAT IF HE MET STOLAS or Octavia!!!!!!! I just think it would be so wholesome for him even though the Goetias don't interact with sinners

So in his pre-afterlife lore you mention he worked his way up a cult but got taken advantage of by the leader and stripped of all the power he'd accumulated. He's obviously suuuuuper power hungry so it may fog up his thinking, but did he not learn from that??? why is he cozying up to Al (like eating the rotten venison just to impress him) if the last time he did that, it resulted in him losing everything

Peccantum wears Alastor's colours bc soul ownership and everything, but during the 7 years when Peccantum never heard from him, how relaxed did he get? Did he still wear the colours then or did that begin when he was oh so kindly volunteered for "bellhop" services?

If Peccantum's red string theories lead to conspiracies like "Alastor is just Lucifer in disguise", how off the mark is he about who owns Al's soul? Like would he be crazy enough to suspect Razzle n Dazzle or something or would he hit close to the mark?

On a related note, do you have a HC for who owns his soul?

I LOVEDDDD when you gave Peccantum his different hairstyles (they were all gorgeous but I particularly enjoyed the one with the many braids),, maybe Angel or Charlie would convince him to play dress-up??

Who is Peccantum?

Oh wow dkajfbshdhjsjshd I'm. I... I don't know how to respond?!??!! This is so sweet! Thank you! 🖤💜💚❤️💜💜💜❤️✨

Sorry it took so long to answer this! I was drawing a comic and it actually added context to a lot of these questions/answered them, so I figured I'd save it until after I was done. There's a lot here so I'm gonna answer it in numbered sections!

1. Names & Nicknames

I don't really have a nickname for him, I usually call him by his full name lol. Peccy is cool lol. His name is pronounced with hard C's. So Pec-cant-um. Or, in case of the nickname, Peck-y

Fun Fact! Peccantum isn't his 'real' name. Like Angel and Husk, he took a new name once he died. His other name was actually shorter (and an actual name too). Peccantum is actually a mix of the words peccatum, meaning sin or transgression in Latin, and incant, in Latin meaning enchant. Basically, magical sin, which sums up Peccantum pretty well actually!

2. Peccantum's Deal

Yes you can!

3. Meeting Stolas

I am a fan of helluva! Have been ever since it came out! Despite that I haven't actually thought about this until now.

Peccantum, absolute nerd that he is, would probably be fascinated by Stolas and his powers. Like talking about specific spells, how long it takes to set up, magic of the stars, etc. I feel like they would have a VERY long conversation about magic and space and shit cause Stolas is lonely and Peccantum is very enthusiastic about this topic. Octavia, meanwhile, would get a long list of places in the human world with little to no light pollution. For excellent star viewing, of course.

4. Cozying up to Alastor

The short answer? No, absolutely not, Peccantum learned nothing XD

The long answer? It's complicated and messy. Peccantum, at that time, went into a bad situation because it was familiar to him. Blood, illicit murders, and strange dealings were all part of what Peccantum was taught to do. He thought he could handle whatever Alastor would ask of him. That it wouldn't matter in the end because Alastor would eventually get rid of him.

He wasn't expecting the Radio Demon to vanish.

5. Clothing Choices

You may have noticed during Checking In that Peccantum is wearing a completely different outfit before he's pulled into the hotel! That is Alastor's doing! Because Peccantum wasn't working for him dressed like that.

At first Peccantum was completely on edge because he was expecting Alastor to show up. After that first year, Alastor could call on him at any time! That's a scary thing to constantly have in the back of your mind. But then, Alastor just... didn't? There were rumors that Alastor had fallen to angels and Alastor wasn't showing up? It left Peccantum completely to his own devices.

Slowly, very slowly, Peccantum started making choices for himself, and learning how to live. He got a shitty job, a shitty apartment, but for the first time in years he was actually living, making choices of his own. And he found he kinda liked it. Not everything, of course, but making your own path in life, finding out what you like and who you are... Well. It was nice, for a time.

Peccantum still has his own clothes but he's aware that what Alastor dressed him in is his uniform.

6. Who owns Alastor's soul?

Tbh, I think it's Lilith. Maybe that's the obvious answer but like... That's the only viable candidate we have rn.

Peccantum would be suspecting Lilith and Lucifer, mainly because of the specifics of the deal Alastor made with Charlie. He didn't take her soul, meaning there's some benefit to having her free.... Or the more likely option; Alastor can't. Whatever deal he's under restricts him from taking Charlie's soul. The only people Peccantum knows who care about Charlie enough to fuck with the Radio Demon would be her parents.

I think he would lean more towards Lucifer, though. It would explain the immediate hostility between him and Alastor. Lucifer's ignorance could be feigned to piss off Alastor even more.

However, Peccantum would also keep evidence for Adam and maybe some of the seven deadly sins on the board. He doesn't have enough evidence for them, but he's not going to dismiss those options just yet.

7. Dress up day

Peccantum doesn't own a lot of clothes but he has explored a few other outfits! Here's some of the sketches I made when exploring what he would wear before he came to the hotel.

I do imagine there would be a 'express yourself through clothing choices' activity he would get wrapped up in tho. He can wear just about anything and still look pretty good. Charlie's happy to see Peccantum embracing different styles and exploring! Angel might help pick outfits and push Peccantum out of his comfort zone.

8. Makeup

Peccantum does wear makeup! It's actually pretty new for him, so he's not the best with it and he doesn't go too extreme but... It's kinda fun!

9. Spice or no spice?

I. I have no idea tbh. I'm not an expert in... people flavoring? XD

10. Jumping at shadows

Did you misspell trauma as talents? XD, joking. In all seriousness though, Peccantum is fairly jumpy because he's high strung. He's a very anxious person in general (there are exceptions) and he's in his own head a lot. Sometimes he will forget that other people are there and be surprised when he is reminded of their presence.

11. Errands to Cannibal Colony

Peccantum definitely keeps his head down. Cannibalism in general makes him uneasy, so best to keep out of the way of any hungry citizens who want to try their luck. Peccantum can defend himself, but he'd rather not if he can avoid it. Cannibals travel in packs and the best way to avoid them is to avoid putting a target on your back.

Thankfully, most people there know he's Alastor's, so they leave him be.

12. Alastor and Peccantum

This one is tricky because I wanna explore this more in other comics, but I'll try and give a general overview here.

Their relationship isn't... Healthy. Especially not at first, but Peccantum coming to the hotel does actually put him in a better place. He meets new people, gains friends, and makes a support network that he never had before. On the other hand, he has to deal with Alastor, the constant anxiety of job performance, and deal with/unpack several traumas he's been repressing. It's a mix of good and bad.

Later on, a few months after working at the hotel, I think Alastor does start to warm up to Peccantum some. They become friendlier, not to the point of being friends, but Alastor appreciates the work Peccantum does and trusts him with tasks that he wouldn't have beforehand. By the time the attack on the hotel happens, he trusts Peccantum won't screw him over.

And then the fight with Adam happens.

We don't know what will happen in season 2, and we probably won't for a while, but... I imagine losing that fight with Adam did not help Alastor's insecurities. Personally, I think the Radio Demon is going to close himself off from the others, more than he already has. To feel in control again, he's going to be a lot more strict with his 'employees' and a lot less lenient with Peccantum.

Peccantum, of course, isn't going to know this and would take it as a sign that he's failing Alastor, something he's deathly afraid of. His anxiety would spike and the almost neutral relationship he had with Alastor would turn unhealthy again. There would be a regression of progress.

Whatever happens in season 2 would def affect their relationship tho, so I can't say much more than that for now.
