112. Meeting
♡ Pairing - Vash x Reader
♡ Word count - 1k
♡ Warnings - none
Part of the 150 Bullets drabble series on AO3
Part 1 (you are here!) ---- Part 2 ---- Part 3 ---- Part 4
Tumblr media
You do your best impression of a confident young woman.
You’ve never been much of an actress.
Boots shaking and hands not much better, you stand in front of McDonough’s shop and the men who will guard you for the foreseeable future.
McDonough putters around his little baubles inside, muttering to himself through the open window and leaving you with the men. You’re waiting for a third party member apparently, and he’s late.
“So,” you try, ignoring the annoyance in their eyes when you speak, “what are your names?”
Silence.
They chew their tobacco like cattle, staring into the street of the town. A tomas blunders by with a loud bell ringing, but not too many people are out this time of day. The suns bake the skin too easily.
You clear your throat, uncomfortable.
“Mac,” the large man in front of you spits to the side. You assume that’s his name. He doesn’t offer a hand to shake but looks you up and down in that lewd way most men do. Your overalls and jacket help hide any figure he tries to find.
His friend steps to the side and lowers his head. “Don.” Same thing – no hand to shake, the same up-and-down stare from under the brim of his hat. He’s missing a front tooth. It must have been recent, the way his tongue keeps swiping over the spot.
The suns fry your head, and you look back and forth between Mac and Don, feeling a knot in your gut. I need this job, you tell yourself, I need this job, and I can do this. You’ve done worse jobs with worse people.
Boss McDonough lets out a chortling laugh, leaning out the window. “Don’t mind them, they’re a bit shy around ladies, aren’t you lads?” He reaches and claps Mac’s shoulder. A growl rivaling earth’s long-lost bears erupts from Mac’s throat, but he doesn’t move. There’s money on the line if he loses his temper. Poor, stupid McDonough doesn’t seem to notice.
You’re so caught off-guard by your entourage that you nearly miss his arrival. Dust kicking up under his boots, the newcomer calls out, “Sorry I’m late, I got caught up by…well…I got caught up!”
Turning to your right, you’re surprised. The mess of blonde hair on his head is tussled in the wind, and blue eyes hide behind round, orange glasses. He’s tall, taller than the other two. Where does McDonough find such large men? It’s his coat you’re surprised most by, all bright red and eye-catching. What kind of merc wants to be noticed? There’s a patch on the coat, and you squint to see it. Project S-E-E–
“Ah! Vash! Was wondering if you’d backed out!” McDonough opens the store door and crowds the newcomer.
Vash laughs good-naturedly at the attention. “On you? No way! I don’t break promises,” he says. His eyes trail over your party. He seems at ease, even being the late comer. “Nice to meet you all! What are your names?”
Mac and Don pull the same stunt; Mac spits to the side and grinds out his name. Don says his quieter. Both look at Vash with an air of guard now – much more aware and alert than they were with you.
Vash clears his throat, smiling politely, if not a bit awkward. He turns to you. “And you? You must be the researcher McDonough told us about! From one of November’s universities, right?” It’s a hint, an act of grace on his part as you continue to just stare at his coat. His right arm moves, and you look down at it.
“Uh…” you finally see the gloved hand extended toward you. It connects to his arm, his shoulder, and you’re back looking at his face. It’s…kind of cute. His face, you mean. “Uh! Sorry, my name, it’s,” and you say it, watching him mouth it once before smiling at you. “And yes, I’m from Novemberine University. Not a student, though, just a researcher.” He takes his hand back without you shaking it – something you realize too late. He’s the only one who had any kind of politeness about him, and here you are throwing it out the window.
“Nice to meet you,” he says. “Must have taken you a while to get out here. Hope you had a good trip!”
You’re surprised by his chattiness and good nature. You feel your own lips pull up. “It was fine. I’m used to sand steamers and – “
McDonough coughs and says, “Alright, enough chatting! We’ve burned enough daylight. Here’s what I’m hiring you to do – “
McDonough breaks down the plan after that. He wants to survey a nearby gulch and valley. Hopes to find some good land for investment – water or oil or to build some new town with his name. You, the cartographer for the job. Vash, one of your hired bodyguards. The other two men look the part – grizzled, tough. Mercs. Vash stands out with his lithe frame, the bold red coat. Still a merc, but he looks at you kindly, and you take to him as only a nervous scholar can. Some kind of comfort, if only in your head.
After a very long-winded speech about sacrifices and hopeful futures, McDonough says, “Now, everyone shake each other’s hands – we’re all friends here!” The wannabe-mogul crows excitedly. McDonough must be new to the “hiring mercs” business.
As long as I get paid, you think. You shake the bodyguards’ hands reluctantly. Mac and Don are rough and limp. Vash’s is warm and a little clammy.
Years down the road, you’ll think of this first meeting and laugh. What a strange, calm way to meet the Humanoid Typhoon and your life partner.

The Big Leagues™︎
part four : hancock

Tumblr media
>> the big leagues™︎ is a series of origin stories that express my takes on the pasts of the companions. there is no sole survivor included in these. please do not regard these as canon, and no characters belong to me, all belong to bethesda and the writers of fallout four
! TW ! heavy angst / light cursing / mentions of asthma & not being able to breathe
>>
please note: this is john before he turned into a ghoul, which is why you’ll see mentions of hair and skin. no specific colors or details stated, imagine him how you like. age is also not mentioned because i had no clue
ALSO gave mcdonough a first name because I couldn’t find it for the life of me, if you know it please tell me!!
>>
The sun sat high in its place over Diamond City, gracing the settlement with its bright, beautiful rays as numerous ghoul families were forced through the gate and into the hostile world beyond with guns pointed at their backs.
John was nauseous. Standing on the lift that went up to his brother’s office, he could see the face of each and every ghoul Diamond City Security was shoving out the door. It made him sick. After all, they were just people, right? People that looked a little different? People whose bodies got ransacked from the radiation but still have enough strength to live? Shouldn’t they be celebrating that they survived instead of treating them like they were a disease? A plague that needed to be wiped from the streets of their cities? There were families, children, being thrown out on the doorstep of Diamond City like trash. The Security guards were screaming at them, shouting at them to get out or they’d open fire. Every smooth-skin in the city was standing outside to watch, calling them names and slurs that weren’t heard in the city before today. Before his brother’s election.
A geyser of emotions were welling up inside of John. Sadness, guilt, a deep rage that was burning against his brother that he’d never felt before. Before he could stop himself, he’d slammed his fist on the big red button, and he ascended toward his brother.
He numbly crashed through the office doors. There his brother stood, looking out over the city, watching the ghouls scramble to gather their things and get shoved around by the security and locals. John didn’t quite know what to say, but that was fine, because his brother spoke first.
“I did it, John. It’s finally mine,”
John drifted up behind his brother, raising his hand to place it on his shoulder but he stopped short. “Please don’t do this. Please… James, don’t send them out there to die. They didn’t do anything to you. They’ve been living here peacefully for years. Please, call it off.”
“I can’t do that,” He stated, staring out the window like he was in a trance. “I don’t have anything against the ghouls, you know that, but I’m just giving the people what they want. I cant betray the voters.”
John clenched his fists, the angry fire burning within him growing brighter. “There’s children out there, and you’re shoving them into the ruins. This is bigger than you being mayor, than you betraying the voters, this is the deaths of dozens.”
“People in power have to sacrifice to get their positions,” James stated.
John could hear his heartbeat pounding in his ears, his angry breaths increasing in speed. “You’re not sacrificing something of yours, you’re sacrificing people! Living, breathing, innocent people!”
“I’m not the first and I won’t be the last,”
John ran a stressed hand through his hair, the familiar feeling of hot, rage-induced tears pooling at the bottom of his eyes. He hated that he cried when he got mad. He always did it as a child and it made him feel weak in front of his brother. “Please. Please don’t send them out there to die. I’m begging you. I’m begging you. Kick me out, do something to me, but not them.”
“Don’t be so emotional, John,” James stated blankly. “You’ve always been the one to get upset.”
“Don’t be so emotional-“ John trailed off, throwing his hands to the side. “You’re sending two dozen people, men and women and children, to die! How can you not care?!”
“Don’t make a scene,”
“What happened to you?! I always knew you were a douchebag, but this?!” John didn’t realize he had hot, rage filled tears streaming down his cheeks until he sniffled. “Who are you?!”
“I’m your brother,”
“No you’re not!” The younger of the two let out an enraged sob, hiccuping like a small child much to his disdain. “The brother I grew up with wouldn’t kill innocent people! What happened to you?!”
“Are you crying, John?”
“Piss off,” He hissed, turning away from his brother and lacing his hand into his hair again. What happened to his brother? What made him change so much? Was it power? He could feel his asthma acting up again, threatening to restrict his breathing like it had so many times before.
“Calm down or you’re going to have another attack, like you used to when we were kids,”
John whirled around like a madman, glaring at the back of James’ head. “Piss the hell off! Don’t sit here and pretend like you care when you won’t even look at me!”
His brother didn’t respond to that, instead, just listened to John cough lightly into his sleeve.
“You’re a monster.” He muttered.
“Aren’t we all?”
John was breathing like he’d been running a marathon now, the air forcing itself in and out of his lungs with a familiar violence. “You’re killing innocent people.”
“Like you haven’t killed before,”
“Not for fun. Not for the people,” He hissed, wiping a layer of hot tearstreaks off of his face just for another to take their place. “Please… please, don’t do it. Please make them stop.”
“You’d be a weak leader, John,” James stated simply, still not bothering to peel his eyes away from the window. John tugged at the neckline of his shirt, lungs begging for relief. He needed a hit of something, anything right then.
“I wouldn’t… kill my people,” The venom dripping from his words was so thick he hoped it might actually poison his brother.
“Has it occurred to you that they aren’t dead?”
“What do you thinks gonna happen to them beyond the walls, huh?! They don’t know anything about living out there because they lived in here!”
“You teach a kid to swim by tossing it in a lake.”
“And then it drowns,” John spat. Funny enough, because right then, he felt like he was drowning. He couldn’t breathe right and the anger inside of him was boiling hotter than anything he’d ever felt before. He was shaking now, his entire body trembling under the force of his emotions. He sobbed again, audibly, cursing himself for it afterward.
“Look at you, John. You’re weak,”
A new feeling sprang to life inside of him, something like betrayal. Pain. “I’m not-“
“You’re weak,” James cut him off, but didn’t look at him.
“I don’t send people to their deaths to get what I want!”
“Because you’re weak. Too weak to do what needs to be done. Too weak to handle what comes with living in this world,”
“Look at me!” John latched onto his brother’s shoulders and shoved him around. He didn’t look dazed, or annoyed, like he’d expected, but instead, was wearing a smile that stretched from ear to ear. The smile of a crazed man that made John pause. Where had his brother gone? Buried inside the mind of a psycho? He let go of James’ shoulder and raked both hands through his hair, tears derived from an emotion separate from anger spilling down his face as he looked at his brother that wasn’t his brother anymore. They’d never been close, but their parents were dead, and he was all John had. And he was gone now, too. Buried inside the shell of a man he once knew.
James’ face contorted into one of worry, but it was painfully, painfully fake, only throwing salt in the wound when John realized his brother didn’t actually care about him anymore. “Calm down, John. You need to breathe.”
John flinched away from James’ hand when it drifted toward his shoulder, snapping: “Don’t touch me!”
His mind drifted back to all the times James had at least tried to be a good brother. When he would drag John across the city to his house when he was high out of his mind. When he would stick around as the drugs faded away to be there just to help him get grounded again. When he held his little brother the night their parents died. It was years ago, but it was still vivid in John’s mind. This wasn’t his brother. This was a monster.
“Come here,” James outstretched his arms as an invitation. John wanted nothing more than to take it, to sink into his brother’s arms like he had the night their parents died and cry out all of the swirling pain, rage, and betrayal that made his mind and body so weak. But he couldn’t. Because this man wasn’t his brother anymore, he was a murderer.
“No,” He croaked, the voice coming out of his mouth not even sounding vaguely familiar in his ears. He flew into a coughing fit, gasping for breath. He felt James’ hand on his back. He turned and slapped it away like it was toxic. “Get off of me.” It came out as more of a desperate whimper than an actual order, but James obeyed, taking a step back.
“Let’s do your breathing exercises,”
“Piss off,” John said again. He didn’t even freaking remember the silly little counting exercises his mother used to make him do, and he knew James didn’t have a clue. He finally got ahold of himself, turning and walking, albeit rather sideways, toward the door.
“You’re leaving, John?”
He didn’t respond, just hurried to the lift and slammed the button again, gasping and blubbering like a child. He needed to leave.

April 25, 2024: from Moon for Aisha, Aracelis Girmay
from Moon for Aisha Aracelis Girmay
— for Kamilah Aisha Moon, with a line after Cornelius Eady’s ''Gratitude''
Dear Aisha, I mean to be writing you a birthday letter, though it’s not September, the winter already nearing, the bareness of trees, their weightlessness, their gestures — grace or grief. The windows of buildings all shining early, lit with light, & I am only ten & riding all of my horses home, still sisterless, wanting sisters.
You do not know me yet. In fact, we are years away from that life. But I am thankful for some inexplicable thing, let’s call it “freedom,” or “night,” the terror & glee of being outside late, after dark, my mother’s voice shouting for me beneath stars which, I learned in school, are suddenly not so different from the small salt of fathers, & gratitude for that, & for the red house of your mother’s blood, & then, you, all nearly grown, all long-legged laughter, already knowing all the songs & all the dances, not my friend, yet, but, somehow — Out There.
In one version of our lives, it is November. Through a window I see one of our elders is a black eye of a woman, is a thinker, & magnificent. [...] It is always her birthday. She has always lived to tell a part of the story of the world, what happened here.
If not a moon, what can we bring this woman who walks ahead? For whom you were named, & whose name has been added to by you whose language crowns the dark field of what has been hushed, of what is beautiful & black, & blue.

The Princess of Wales' Stats - Third Quarter
It's been summer and we've hit the annual low point in the year for Catherine engagements (I have to stop myself from writing Duchess of Cambridge engagements!). In the third three months of 2022, the Princess of Wales has completed 24 engagements, averaging around 8 engagements a month. Her busiest month was September, during which she completed 15 engagements. She undertook 7 engagements in July and 2 in August, where she was also spotted once. In September, Catherine appeared in one official photograph or video, and was spotted five times; September was also, notably, when the death of Queen Elizabeth II occured and some of these "spottings" were fairly major events, such as the Windsor walkabout with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. This means September also coincided with a 17 day period of mourning. While being a quiet August (as always), this was her fourth busiest July and her fourth busiest September of all time.
Of her 24 patronages, she has visited or completed work for 6, totalling 9 engagements in total. In July, Catherine completed six engagements on behalf of her patronages. 3 of those were Wimbledon engagements, meaning they counted as being for both the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and the Lawn Tennis Association. She also undertook one engagement for The 1851 Trust and two for Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. In August, she undertook one engagements for SportsAid. In September, she completed two engagements on behalf of the Royal Foundation, which was renamed to the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Of her 24 engagements, 8 have been solo while another 8 were when she was accompanied by her husband, the Duke of Cambridge, now the Prince of Wales. Three engagements took place with wider members of the (then-Cambridge) Wales family - one with her husband and Prince George, and two with her husband and Princess Charlotte. A number of engagements took place with a number of other British Royals in September, during the aftermath of the Queen's death, with the Queen's funeral taking place with members of both the British Royal Family and foreign royals.
Her engagements have all taken place in the UK, in England (21) and Wales (3). Of her UK-based engagements, 13* took place in London, while one was a video meeting. She also undertook engagements in Windsor, Plymouth, Birmingham, Norfolk, Swansea and Anglesey. NOTE: Two of her September engagements were meetings and could have taken place in either London or Windsor. As the Princess of Wales' official residence remains in London, I will be counting these as taking place there until informed otherwise.
Due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the majority of her engagements have been diplomatic in nature, with eight engagements falling in that area specifically. 6 of her engagements have focused on the military and another 6 on sport, while 3 engagements have been focused on her Early Years Initiative. Six of her engagements did not fit into the theme headings I have created.
Clotheswise, her most worn identified designer has been Alexander McQueen, followed by Catherine Walker, although she has worn two unidentifed looks. Her most carried bag designer was Mulberry, followed by Grace Han, then Stuart Weitzman. Her most-worn shoe designer is, again, Gianvito Rossi. In terms of jewellery, she has predominantly worn pieces borrowed from the late Queen, as well as pieces inherited from Diana, followed by Kiki McDonough with 5 wears, and Annoushka with 4. When it comes to hats, Catherine was seen in five hats, with both Henri Lloyd creating 2 of them. One of her hats is still currently unidentified.

9-1-1: LONE STAR REACTION
This reaction is for the season 4, third episode "Cry Wolf" which originally aired February 6, 2023. The episode was written by Carly Soteras and Wolfe Coleman and directed by David Katzenberg. Spoilers ahead!
Tumblr media
***LAST TIME ON 9-1-1: LONE STAR***Owen is enlisted by the FBI to infiltrate the Honor Dogs. When he returns to the bar to place a listening device in the owner's office, he is caught by Sgt. Ty O'Brien (Neal McDonough). Meanwhile, Tommy is feeling conflicted about dating her new pastor, Trevor Parks (D.B. Woodside). Carlos and TK meet with Iris Blake (Lyndsy Fonseca) about getting a divorce. Tommy invites Trevor over for dinner but also invites Judd and Grace. Iris tells TK she wants an annulment instead of a divorce. Tommy and Trevor share a smooch. Owen returns home to find O'Brien waiting for him. Whew, boy!
Okay, now that we're all caught up, let's talk about episode three - CRY WOLF!!!
We begin the episode by picking up where we left off. O'Brien is waiting for Owen when he returns home. He hands Owen back the listening device and asks him who he is working for. ATF? FBI? Owen tells him to get out of his house. O'Brien tells Owen to grab his helmet. We're going for a ride.
Title card!
The two ride their bikes to a residential neighborhood. They arrive at the home of O'Brien's nephew, Andy. They are greeted by Andy's wife, Joanne (Stevie Lynn Jones) and son, Jacob (Viron Weaver). O'Brien tells Owen that his sister,  Melinda, died when Andy was sixteen and since Andy's dad wasn't in the picture, he became Andy's parental figure. He talks about how Andy would get in trouble, nothing too big, but really got his act together when Jacob was born.
Tumblr media
Joanne tells Owen she received a call from Andy a month ago and he sounded scared. He told her he was in trouble and not to look for him. He was never heard from after that. O'Brien goes on to say that a year prior Andy joined up with the Honor Dogs. Joanne says she assumed they were nice people but then Andy stopped spending time with her and Jacob. He would come home angry and she would ask him to quit. Andy told her he couldn't quit. Joanne tried to report his disappearance to the police but they wouldn't do anything because of the phone call where he told her not to look for him.
O'Brien explains the reason he's aligned himself with the Honor Dogs is because he is looking for Andy. Owen suggests that he speak to the FBI but O'Brien says he doesn't trust the federal government. O'Brien asks if Owen knows what the Honor Dogs are planning and he tells him he cannot talk about it. Good move, Owen! O'Brien asks Owen not to tell the FBI about him or his nephew. Oh, and Jacob throws a toy at Owen and it hits his eye. Like father, like son, I guess.
Tumblr media
Carlos and TK speak with Detective Grier (Blythe Howard) regarding Iris being missing. Carlos assures the detective Iris is doing well, mentally but Detective Grier lets him know they found her meds in the abandoned car along with the unsigned divorce papers. TK speaks up about the divorce papers and tells Carlos and Detective Grier that Iris wanted an annulment instead of a divorce. TK tells Carlos that he confronted Iris at her work and says that Iris was fine when he talked to her. Detective Grier leaves. Carlos is very cold to TK and TK assumes he blames him for Iris going missing. Carlo tells him he should've given Iris more time. Hey, Carlos! You're being an asshole right now! Look, I get that you're upset about your bestie/fake-wife/soon-to-be ex-fake-wife being missing but TK does not deserve your ire. Carlos leaves the apartment and I feel really bad for TK.
Owen arrives for his shift at the firehouse the next day and Judd notices his shiner. Before Judd has a chance to press him for details, Owen gets a call from Special Agent Rose Casey (Amanda Schull). She asks him to come into the FBI so that he can go back to the bar to activate the listening device. Owen tells her he is busy and he will see what he can do.
Tumblr media
Grace gets a call from a man named Granger (John Shartzer) who says his girlfriend fell off the side of a cliff. The 126 arrive at the scene and find a woman lying flat down on a rock several feet below the clift. Carlos shows up to the scene saying he received a call from a witness saying she saw a man throw a body over a cliff. While Paul and Marjan repel down to the woman, Carlos grills the boyfriend, Granger who is being very cagey about what happened. Carlos thinks Granger threw Iris off the cliff but his interrogation is put to an end by Detective Granger.
In perhaps one of the funniest scenes in the history of the show, we discover that the woman who was thrown off the cliff is a sex doll ... named Chrissy. Owen learns that Granger has detachment disorder and that he and Chrissy have been together for 2 years and he has decided to break things off. Nancy, like myself, is confused as to why he would bring Chrissy up to the canyon and toss her off a cliff only to call 9-1-1. Carlos, who is standing next to TK, suggests that Granger can't let go of a bad relationship. Gee, Carlos ... projecting much?!? We then cut to a scene where Nancy is pretending to revive Chrissy. When Chrissy flatlines, Owen apologizes to Granger and asks if he wants to say goodbye to her. Granger tells Chrissy he will love her forever. Hopefully Granger gets all of the medical/psychiatrist help he needs.
Tumblr media
Owen goes to see Special Agent Casey and she sees his eye. He tells her he walked into a door. She knows the listening device was never planted. Owen asks how much they heard but Casey gives no indication she heard his conversation with O'Brien. When Special Agent Casey leaves the room to get another listening device, Owen looks at the board set up with information about the Honor Dogs. He sees a photo of whom he believes to be Andy and takes it. He swaps it out with what looks like a menu from a Chinese restaurant. Owen takes another listening device from Special Agent Casey and assures her he will plant it this time and turn it on.
Grace gets a call from a woman claiming she's been kidnapped. She tells Grace her abductor is in the room with her and that he is asleep. She also tells Grace she is in an abandoned house. When Grace asks for her name, she tells her Iris. Grace reports this information to Carlos. Grace tells him she believes Iris is in Laurel Canyon, and Carlos drives to the location. Grace keeps Iris on the line. She tells Grace the house is boarded. up. Iris tells Grace the guy who took her is awake and the call ends. Cops swarm the abandoned neighborhood and Carlos hears a scream. He goes into a house and finds Iris unconscious. Carlos carries her out of the house fireman-style. This is when my bullshit meter went off. Is Iris trying to get attention from Carlos? Since Carlos didn't look for her when she was homeless and experiencing severe mental health issues, is this her way of making him look for her?
Tumblr media
Detective Grier asks Carlos to come with her and before he leaves, Iris reaches for his hand. He promises her he will come back. The detective tells Carlos the cops have searched inside the house and they didn't find anyone. Carlos appears baffled by this information. Does this mean Iris is ... crying wolf?
Meanwhile, Owen shows O'Brien the photo he took from the FBI and the sergeant confirms it's Andy who is in the picture. December 8th is written on the photo and Jo says she heard from Andy two days after that. Owen tells him that two days after the photo was taken, a shipment of ammonium nitrate was stolen. He also suggests that Andy was working with the FBI. O'Brien mentions that he's heard some of the Honor Dog members talk about a place called The Farm which may be where they train. He says no one can get inside unless they have a brand.
Carlos goes to Iris in the hospital along with Detective Grier. They want Iris to retrace her steps. Iris says she was looking for one of her residents at the shelter when she was grabbed at the homeless camp she used to frequent and was forced into a car. She describes the man who took her as tall, plain, and creepy with a mustache and he has a messed up hand. He didn't do anything to Iris and told her she wasn't ready yet. She says that he looked at her like she was a painting. He put a mattress against the door they were in and just sat and looked at her. When he fell asleep, she used his phone to call 9-1-1. She also says the reason she has the gash on her head is because the man woke up and smashed her against a wall. She didn't see him leave the house. Carlos and Detective Grier leave Iris's room and the detective expresses her doubts regarding Iris's story.
Tumblr media
Owen and O'Brien go to the bar. O'Brien goes to plant the listening device and Owen plays pool with a guy named Turner (Scott Peak). The more they play, the drunker Turner gets. After losing multiple games, Owen tells Turner is an excellent marksman. Turner challenges him and tells him he knows a place where they can go shooting.
Tommy talks to TK in the bunk room at the firehouse. TK tells her Carlos is at the hospital with Iris. He tells Tommy there may not have been a guy who kidnapped her. TK tells TOmmy they had a drone up and no one else came out of that house. Tommy talks about mental illness and how it can be triggered. TK thinks he set Iris off. I really hate that TK is feeling this way and Carlos isn't doing shit to make him feel better. Do better, Carlos!!!
Tumblr media
Carlos sees Iris again. By the way, I'm super surprised Carlos is able to talk to Iris like this because wouldn't this be a conflict of interest? Anywho, Iris doesn't think Carlos believes her and he tells her he believes she believes what she experienced. He tells her they couldn't get anything off the burner phone she used to call 9-1-1. Iris assures him she's been taking her meds and doing much better. She tells Carlos she can still smell the guy's scent. She describes it as flowery detergent. She says she can still see his face. Iris starts to doubt herself and her sanity.
Owen and O'Brien accompany Turner to The Farm and I found it funny that the password to get into the compound is 1-2-3-4-5. Turner takes them to a shooting range. The guy is drunker than a skunk but is an excellent shooter. Turner eventually passes out and Owen and O'Brien go investigating. They notice the place is the same as the place in the photo of Andy. They find a HUGE arsenal of weapons as well as 14000 pounds of ammonium nitrate. Owen meets with Special Agent Casey in a parking garage and tells her he's been to The Farm. She tells him about him she knows he stole the photo and he's taken to headquarters. Special Agent Casey said the FBI raided The Farm and found no ammonium nitrate. Owen learns that O'Brien is a founding member of the Honor Dogs. Owen tells her he's told O'Brien a lot of stuff. Special Agent Casey tells Owen he was played by O'Brien and lost.
Carlos returns to the house where Iris was being held captive. Before he heads inside, he calls TK. TK asks how Iris is and Carlos has said not great. He then tells TK not to wait up for him and that he's staying with Iris. Carlos puts on gloves and goes inside the abandoned house. He finds some removable wall panels inside the closet of the room where Iris was found. He goes down into a creepy ass crawlspace. He ends up in another house in the neighborhood and is hit in the head by the guy who abducted Iris. End of episode.
Tumblr media
This was an interesting episode. The stuff involving Owen got ratcheted up to a thousand and I'm curious to see how this Honor Dogs wraps up. The question I have is: who can be trusted? The FBI or O'Brien. O'Brien was definitely in that photo of the founding members of the Honor Dogs, but perhaps the group didn't always have ties to white nationalism. It does beg the question, if O'Brien was a founding member of the Honor Dogs, how did Andy hide his involvement from him? Did O'Brien leave and come back. These are questions that definitely need answering.
Then we have our Carlos storyline. I'm still iffy on Carlos being married to Iris even though he is planning on marrying TK. Plus, I'm not a fan of how Carlos acted in this episode. I don't think he has a right to get mad at TK when he hasn't been honest with TK during the entirety of their relationship when it comes to Iris. I said it last reaction and I will say it again - TK Strand is a way better man than me. The way Carlos was cold to him throughout the episode was so unnecessary. I get that Carlos is worried about Iris and wants to do right by her but that shouldn't be at the expense of hurting the person he claims he loves and who loves him. Also, Carlos reminded me a lot of Athena from the OG series when he went into the abandoned house at the end. I get why Athena goes off alone a lot. She has mentioned before that she likes being able to go where she needs to go and we rarely see her partnered with someone. Carlos actually does have a partner and if he was going to go investigating, I think he should've had some backup. So, of course, he gets bonked on the head with a shovel.
Tumblr media
It looks like in the next episode titled "Abandoned" we are going to learn that Iris was not crying wolf. There is, in fact, a man, tall, plain, and creepy with a mustache who has him abducted. According to the preview I saw, apparently this man is supposed to be a serial killer. Now obviously they are not about to kill off a beloved main character but this is yet one more horrible thing that TK and Carlos are going to have to contend with. I guess the fans got their wish when they asked that Carlos get to experience some of the trauma that is often hoisted onto TK. Be careful what you wish for! Well, that's all I have for this reaction. I really liked this episode. Of the three we've gotten so far, episode 2 is my favorite. With that said, this season is keeping me on the edge of my seat so I hope we keep this momentum going forward. Until next time ...

Note
How did the episode fell for you? Minus the promo for next week ofc
I liked Owen—they let him be funny and that’s good and I like Neal McDonough so that’s good AND I liked the FBI agent.
I also liked Tommy even though I don’t really care about the love interest, but I liked Grace and Judd at the dinner and then again after the dinner.
Also gotta hand it to Nancy because I thought she was funny when she was teasing Tommy.
Marjan in the helicopter was cool.
I don’t think anything else happened.

Nora O’Connor — My Heart (Pravda)
Tumblr media
youtube
Nora O’Connor makes countrified songs with city suavity. They’re heartfelt but never maudlin, simply conceived but masterfully arranged and played. They feel direct and personal and authentic, but they evidence a great deal of craft, too. Nora O’Connor is a pro, but not spoiled by it.
Even if you’ve never encountered O’Connor in her solo guise, you’ve likely heard her in the background. She tours regularly with Iron & Wine and plays and sings with Andrew Bird. At various times, she has backed up Neko Case, the New Pornographers, the Decemberists, John Wesley Harding and Mavis Staples. She’s a member of the doo-wopping, barber-shopping, 40s-radio quintuplet the Flat Five, and along with Kelly Hogan, Jon Langford and Sally Timms, a staple of Chicago’s thriving alt.country scene. This is only her third solo album, but never mind that. She’s been busy.
With My Heart, O’Connor treads agilely across country styles, from slow rocking heartbreakers (“Sore”), to dusky, organ laced waltzes etched by experience (“Grace’), to a sprightly, bluegrassy ramble the heart of blue America (“Cambridge Cold”). A lone, finger-picked instrumental (“Winwoof”) showcases O’Connor’s Takoma-style skills.  A handful of these songs—and some of the best—hardly sound like country at all. “My Heart” plunks down a terse piano line into its tale of romantic disappointment; it conjures art-song, cabaret music as much as twang. And “Follow Me” with its devastating pedal steel—that’s Jon Rauhouse, by the way—finds a Sadies-like magic interval between country and psychedelia.
O’Connor brings in her Flat Five bandmates for vocal and instrumental support—Casey McDonough on bass and guitar, Scott Ligon on keyboards and guitar, Alex Hall on drums and piano and Steve Dawson on guitars and keyboards. The arrangements are varied, interesting and expertly executed. These are not the kind of people who ever miss a note.
But mostly it’s Nora O’Connor with her wry, side-eyed view of the world, the clean, gorgeous lines of her melodies and that voice full of strength and vulnerability. She’s been off in the corner for a while, but not because she’s bad. It’s past time for her to come center stage.
