Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
So Faruzan says this. It used to be a requirement back in Haravatat to know at least twenty languages. Meaning, that no one in recent years needed to know anymore. At least, that is what Layla exclaims afterward, "You mean there used to be such a requirement!?"
Meanwhile, we get Alhaitham who says this:
The translation for his sentence is "needs to" but the original Chinese says "should." If what Faruzan and Layla said is true, he probably means students "should" know at least twenty languages in order to be a Haravatat scholar.
Which, in Alhaitham's case, he is a polyglot. He can decipher King Deshret script.
So, did Alhaitham learn various languages to fulfill the Harvatat ancient requirement or did he learn them out of self-interest (pursuit of knowledge? <- This is if what we know is true and that requirement is no longer mandatory during his Akademiya days.
Who knows, either way, he's a massive nerd. And intelligent cause being a polyglot is insane; my respect for him.
Im so surprised not more ppl who play genshin picked a darshan for themselves I think sumeru akademiya is real cool or whatever and id def be in haravatat or whatever....
//Spoilers for those who haven't watched the Character Demo for Al Haitham
I made an appreciation post for Kaveh, now here is for the Acting Grand Sage / Akademiya Scribe, Al Haitham! Here are some enhanced screenshots from his Character Demo "Alhaitham: Think Before You Act". (Click image before downloading)

Al-Haitham (almost) making a finger heart
For those who wanna watch his character demo (under the cut):
I feel like Haravatat is like the Tumblr of the Akademiya. They're the weirdos who make up funny words and then get into arguments about what they mean.
"oh, are you not going to join me for tea?" having traveled past the chasm to a luscious land fit for kings, baizhu is plenty busy offering his medical services to those in need within sumeru. "only if you have time, kaveh- is it?" / @haravatat
"Much of the content found within this book originates from Madam Faruzan's theories and manuscripts. It is our hope that future generations of scholars will remember her name when she returns to the Akademiya." — Quote from the book "Introduction to Ancient Machines." This text was released almost a century ago and is still on the Kshahrewar's essential reading list today.

There is a legend circulating among the Kshahrewar students:
If you have failed your mechanics exams and do not dare ask for remedial lessons from your displeased tutor, you can make your way to Haravatat next door and ask Madam Faruzan for some tips.
There is no need to prepare a gift. Just remember to show sincerity and humility, and call her "Madam" respectfully. That will be sufficient to get into the living encyclopedia of mechanics' good graces.
Madam Faruzan's explanations are simple to understand yet insightful, and her in-depth knowledge really makes people wonder if she had a hand in writing the syllabus. Her guidance will help resolve the most daunting problems, though there remain two problems that all students must overcome on their own:
The first is how to hide their surprise when they see her youthful appearance.
The second is to refrain from asking her why she has been shunned in Haravatat despite having such erudition, and whether she should consider joining Kshahrewar.
If you are unfortunate enough to commit one of these faux pas, you shall bear witness to rhetoric worthy of a household name in Haravatat, especially when in the field of criticizing and reprimanding others.

[Image description: A page of uncolored digital sketches of Kaveh and Alhaitham.
The topmost sketch is a redraw of a scene from the Archon Quest in which Kaveh frowns while looking up to meet Alhaitham's gaze.
The bottom left drawing depicts Kaveh and Alhaitham in an embrace. Alhaitham is nestled into Kaveh's chest and looking forwards with a neutral expression. One of his arms reaches around Kaveh's waist. Kaveh smiles as he looks forwards. One hand loosely caresses the back of Alhaitham's neck while the other lightly touches his jawline.
The bottom right drawings depict a chibi Alhaitham and smiling chibi Kaveh. An arrow with the phrase "do not separate them!!" points at them.]
I admit I don’t remember I reblogged that so I read it as headcanon before thinking “what’s a heartcanon”
Definition of a heartcanon by @/prokopez: “I don’t have a particular rationale for why this ought to be the case, I just like to imagine it’s true because it gives me the warm fuzzies”
Or as I might explain it, “a belief about an aspect of a fictional story not of one’s own, typically about one or multiple characters in it, that one holds because they enjoy it, regardless of the amount of evidence or rationale that one would need to support their claim in an argument”
To my knowledge, in Genshin Impact, al-Haitham is a student of the Akademiya’s “Haravatat Darshan”, right…? According to the wiki, Haravatat specializes in semiotics (in real life it’s the study of signs and symbols and their interpretations, I believe) and includes both linguistics and ancient runes studies. Well, in real life, linguistics is the scientific study of language, and semiotics—which includes the study of ancient runes, I’d assume—is a sub-field of linguistics. So I wonder if it’s better to say, “Of the Six Darshans in the Sumeru Akademiya, Haravatat specializes in linguistics, specifically semiotics, and includes disciplines such as ancient runes studies.” Nope, never mind, semiotics is not a branch of linguistics since it includes non-linguistic signs too, which would make sense since Haravatat also does ancient runes. (I must’ve mixed up semiotics and semantics, the branch of linguistics and logic that studies meaning.)
With that being said—
Al-Haitham is jokingly referred to as a god of syntax by uhh Haravatat syntax students of the Sumeru Akademiya
Alhaitham as a character is great I love how he’s a prick and “as a matter of fact ☝️” and ignores people he doesn’t want to talk to. Absolutely sensational and amazing. But if I met him in real life, as someone in STEM who has to deal with enough men who think they’re better, I would pummel him.
Alhaitham resigned from being Acting Grand Sage but now he's hosting a whole ass festival and providing event commentary like?? Who convinced him to do this? Did they not accept his resignation or does stepping down mean that he's being forced to be extremely social and outspoken??
