was looking through some older art and I found this Keyleth sketch I made years ago when I was actively listening to Critical Role. I decided to post it unpolished because I like this sharp and dynamic energy that usually gets lost as I process the art more.

disliking Bonnie because of Caroline’s transition is always funny to me because y’all will bluntly ignore Bonnie’s trauma with vampires at that time to strengthen your disdain for her during her reaction to Caroline’s transition. “Caroline needed her friend…it’s Bonnie’s fault she turned in the first place..” blah blah blah.

Unfortunately I'm not good with backgrounds for pictures like this, but eh. I'll include a transparent one under the cut.
Anyway the sketch for this looked a bit different but I did some adjustments in the end. Just something I drew for fun, as always ^^

I like the koroks. I do. They are rather adorable, their puzzles are fun, I enjoy seeing people lose their minds collecting all of the korok seeds. I adore Hetsu. I even get some amusement from how easily I can hear “ya ha ha!” echo in my head.
But.
The more often we get koroks in games the more it bothers me. I was wondering if I was just being old fashioned in my preference for the kokiri, but that’s what helped me realize what exactly was starting to bother me about them. They don’t feel very fleshed out.
They are childish in many ways, and while that does bring the kokiri to mind, shaped as literal children as they are, the koroks type of childishness is drastically different.
They feel like a caricature of idealized childish innocence from an adult perspective. And that feels so much worse to me when I remember that kokiri distrusted adults.
They are cute as they waddle around. They hero-worship Link, calling him Mr. Hero, wanting so badly to help him and to play games with him. Especially with totk and the backpack koroks, there is an added aspect of incompetence and needing Link’s help.
The kokiri on the other hand show a different side to this type of character. They are shaped as children and they are played out as children, but they show some of the harsher sides of childhood. The bullying, the ego, the exclusion of perceived outsiders in their treatment of Link and distrust of adults.
And that’s not to say that children are naturally nasty to each other, but it ties in with two other points for me.
Link is an outsider. Even in oot when he was raised among the kokiri he was an outsider.
And the kokiri and koroks both live in the lost woods. They live within woods that drive people mad, that are known to trap those who enter and transform them into stalfos. One of the best terms I’ve heard to refer to them is fey-adjacent. As much as I’ve enjoyed the koroks, it feels like they are missing a sharpness that should come from their background, a wildness, a hint of danger. And maybe a bit more individual personality.

Somewhat related to that akutagawa ada ask: is it just me or does it feel like Asagiri completely forgot all of the abuse that dazai put akutagawa through
Oh man... We've been through this. But seriously, once again, my personal opinion is that it's not like the bsd author forgets at all, because they don't consider it abuse to begin with?? We all know bsd has an extremely distasteful portrayal of abuse, often framing it as something that helped people grow and was even made in their interest. Author did not forget about the abuse Dazai inflicted Akutagawa, in fact, they consistently keep depicting Dazai hurting Akutagawa because according to them it's all just to shape Akutagawa in a better person, it's good for him. At least on this front (but on all the others too, really), Dazai is not doing any wrong, and it's shown in the way he's been been consistently hurting Akutagawa and was never asked to make amends even after switching to the good side, because for the author he is already doing good. I don't know what else to say. In chapter 9, in chapter 34, in chapter 36, in chapter 51, in chapter 84: there's no growth in how Dazai treats Akutagawa. Because author doesn't believe anything needs to be changed. Because Dazai is already perfect for how he is. Because you've seen it in the last chapter, Dazai is an already fulfilled character, there's no space left for flaws, nor improvement.

Since people are discussing Larian’s “people pleasing” updates with this latest hot fix, I’m gonna add my two (unnecessary) cents to this as well. I really love Baldurs Gate 3 for the choices and agency it affords me as a player. That’s its main draw to me. However, when comparing it to its main inspiration (i.e BioWare games), the writing in BG3 is far worse.
And I think this shines through the most with the companion content disparity. I do think Astarion is a very well written character, but I also think his popularity partially comes from the other characters being far too underwritten. This isn’t even touching on Karlach’s lack of depth and the shocking disparity that is Wyll’s entire storyline/character. But other companions like Shadowheart and Gale, while well written, lack the same attention and suffer for it.
And god, the villains. I think that’s another egregiously bad area of the writing. Kethric gets a whole act! Meanwhile, Orin is interesting but crammed into sharing space with Gortash. And Gortash is given an incredible backstory that ties to another villain, but nothing is done with it and it’s mostly hidden in notes. And the story overall is just ok. Act 2 is easily the most compelling. But compared to BioWare, the story is lackluster imo. The Dark Urge plot line is the most interesting part of the overall main storyline, but it’s not afforded enough detail or content (imo).
And none of this is helped by Larian removing bits and pieces of their characters in these hotfixes. I really wish they’d just start adding content to flesh out these problem areas, especially Wyll and Minthara.

don’t worry darling is like. unnecessarily trying to reinvent the stepford wives however it is inch resting to me that this movie got so buried by whatever was going on with the cast drama when it’s a movie that speaks to delusional radicalized incel bullshit + the stake that men have in controlling women’s lives and bodies + power dynamics etc etc which idk i just feel like even otherwise progressive people are so quick to completely shut down media with feminist themes if it’s too in-your-face about it and they’ll come up with a bunch of excuses about why it’s cringe. i’ve seen so many people be like “don’t even bother to watch the film, it probably sucks, the drama during production is way more entertaining” like whatever, it’s not a revolutionary movie, i liked it though and i think we still need explicitly feminist films and i have concerns about dismissing a film without even knowing the basic premise because of (what seem to me to be low stakes) interpersonal issues among the cast

I'm kinda curious about the period of time when Minato was Hokage, because there's so much you could say about Konoha depending on it. It could be that I don't remember what the manga says about it too, but anyway.
We know that before Minato was Hokage, the discrimination towards jinchuurikis was high. We know it from Kushina's story. After Minato, the jinchuurikis discrimination was not exactly as bad as it could have been (and the bar is soooo low) in physical terms, but the level of sheer isolation was ridiculous. Sure, Kushina had guards and she lived in a tower with a perimeter drawn around it, one that she couldn't surpass. The difference is that Kushina knew why she was being isolated, there was someone willing to teach her about it right from the start, a family member even if distant, someone with the same experience.
All Naruto knew is that he was unwanted. He had no family, no one was willing to guide him. No, not even Iruka. I'm talking about before in the manga, before Iruka realized how much Naruto needed him and did something about it.
If that was before and after, how was it during the time Minato was Hokage?
Did Minato push for Kushina to become Hokage? Was the idea rejected? Did he get angry? It was her dream after all. Or did they realize it would be impossible so they pushed Minato to go for it? Were they sad about the idea of Kushina having to live her dream through Minato, because they wouldn't let her go for it? When did Kushina give up and change her goal in life?
Did Minato tell anyone about his plan on how to get rid of the jinchuuriki discrimination? Did he talk about it with Kushina? We know that they planned Naruto's birth and tried to make it as safe as possible. When the time to seal Kurama within Naruto came, they both knew how Konoha would treat Naruto. Minato wanted Naruto to be viewed as the son of a hero, but his wishes were thrown aside as soon as his body was cold enough.
With no law to protect the jinchuuriki of the kyubi, I wonder how bold the people of Konoha were in their discrimination against Kushina while Minato was Hokage. Times were different, Minato was highly respected and feared, but how many times did he have to tell someone to mind their words? How many times did he catch Kushina avoiding a certain restaurant or a street? Did he ever feel a slight of resentment against his home for the way they treated his wife? His pregnant wife?
Were there rumors of the child being a monster for being the son of a jinchuuriki? It could be that some Konoha parents telling their kids to not play with the little Uzumaki/Namikaze was a thing before Naruto was even born?
From what I've seen, Konoha has no gentleness for kids of prestigious lineages. Being a child of a powerful shinobi makes your life worse, in fact. A million times over: it happened to Sasuke, to Neji, it happened to Kakashi in the generation before them, it happened to Itachi in the in-between.
I don't think that being the son of the hokage would have saved Naruto for being mistreated by the village. Not when his mother was a jinchuuriki.
It just makes me wonder, you know?
In the time he had, how did Minato try to change things to protect his family?
Was it a matter of needing more time? Or there wasn't a plan at all?

The thing that infuriates me the most about the trans people in sports debate is that all these people insisting that TIMs don't have a physical advantage over women don't say shit about letting TIFS compete in men's sports because they know VERY WELL thay they'd be at a physical disadvantage. Sport is supposed to be split based on sex, not gender identity. How the fuck are you gonna argue that trans people need to have their identity "affirmed" by being allowed to pick which sex they'd like to compete with?? When the only relevance of sex in this context is your biological condition. I am so sick of anything criticising this being framed as anti-trans. Being allowed to compete with the opposite sex because you want to is a privilege, not a right.

i do understand why selim was so depressed in the last episode - bizarre double standards about fratricide against him notwithstanding, he still did kill his brother and his young nephews - but i'd be lying if i said nurbanu's words to him don't make me cackle. "have we fought for nothing all these years? to cry and mourn in corners? what did you expect? taking the throne with roses?" she can give him the sweetest most encouraging pep talks or she can lay into him like nobody else

The only thing I’m hesitant about is if I do make in depth mega man post is I’m low key afraid to be hostile even if I’m having this moment of self awareness by that fact- it’s just a lot of the awful takes I’ve seen in the fandom stuck with me and I wanna give my two cents to how dumb some of them are but I have to also remember the tumblr environment of the fandom is probably the exact opposite of what I’m use to it given it was fucking twitter so the fandom is probably far *less* hostile here so I gotta like not be a massive dick/overly defensive about something I like when no one trying to beef with me anyways.
