how'd you realize you were ace?

A Homestuck mlm fanfic.

For context, I knew asexuality existed but because I had no idea romantic and sexual attraction were separate things, I just assumed asexuality entailed having zero romantic interest in anyone. I was also in a relationship at the time so I had no reason to suspect the label would ever apply to me.

... So imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon this fic. "Omg I can so relate to John and Dave's relationship issues here especially with intimacy issues. Ha ha... wait...Dave is... asexual? Ha.... huh???"

Then on the same night, I came across another fic which literally had this quote in its summary: "you can love someone without wanting to poke them with your groinal attachments". I do not joke when I say I had a sexuality crisis that night lmao. Everything I knew about romance and relationships was in SHAMBLES.

So lesson here: representation matters.

personally one of my favorite dynamics is davekat + sollux. they arent dating. there is no moiraillagence really happening between them. just two dudes in love and their strange hacker friend that keeps putting bees everywhere and mocking them

interesting! I tend to think of Sollux as just Karkat’s friend, tbh, I don’t know how much Dave would really like him lol. you describing him that way reminds me a little bit of the way he is in one of my favorite EVER davekat fics, Flight Recorder From Viking 7 — his role in it isn’t huge or anything, and it’s mostly toward the end, but it is pretty memorable, imo :)

I’d like to do some proper illustrations in tribute to this fic someday, it’s soooo good everybody go read it <3
