Alright fun facts about Jon!
He's big on gift giving. It's an art and he's really good at it.
Jonah has never been to a pride parade before. In fact, only Wendy out of all my OCs has.
Jonah has both his ears pierced, but nowadays he doesn't wear anything on them. He did wear diamond studs on them during a stretch of high school.
Jonah wears makeup pretty much every day. Not as in fashion (colors/glitter/etc), but he's really really good with concealer. You'll never see this man with a pimple.
Jonah DID want a sibling, which is something he'll not say out loud. It was such a huge disappointment to him when his step mom didn't let him be a big brother to Angie and then he was enrolled in boarding school. Like he eagerly waited during all of the pregnancy and was thriving when random strangers told him he'd be a big brother.
Jonah's favorite movie as a kid was the Parent Trap, he's the child of divorced parents and had an annoying, much younger step mom. Nowadays he likes indie queer/horror stuff and will not own up to this, but Luke knows.
If you're tenacious enough and look at teen magazines from the early 2010s, you'll find him in some of them. "Jackie Mallory's heartrobber son" you might read. You may even find pictures of him and Luke together if you search enough.
Jonah's granparents from his father's side are still alive, although he's not close with them.
His letterbox is his pride and joy and he leaves these long, winded reviews.
He's got a signature perfume: Hugo Boss Boss (the green one, that's got notes of green apple)

Yeah I enjoyed boarding school-genre (St. Mallory's etc.) books when I was little--- my grandma used to get them for me. I wasn't big on HP because it was boarding school genre minus a female protagonist, and not nearly as fun or as silly. Overall my issue with HP's reception is that it's very intentionally a riff on that genre, not fantasy (and you can see this with the historic aversion to categorising it as fantasy at all, like rejecting the Hugo award). Even right down to what you describe with Snape in that linked post is that his archetype is very common in the boarding school genre (mean teacher who is secretly nice) that I knew immediately he was going to be a Good Guy the Whole Time, though the way it's done is with more emotional gravitas and probably more moral condemnation than those teachers ever warrant, since the nature of HP evolved. Imo the silliness/whimsy never sat right with its serious war narrative and that's not for the better, because the former is what the setting is really all about. But regarding Snape, I think the reason his reception wasn't anticipated is because he's probably one of the archetypes most directly translated; when figuring him into the more serious narrative, much more resonance slipped through.
Anyway! I really wanted to know whether it was DHr or SHr that you were into because I find which of those people ship to be interesting lol. It makes much more sense that SHr fits into your BatB paradigm, though I have definitely read plenty of renderings of DHr which play into that idea--- those tend to lean into inventing more complexity for Draco than there are in the books, though, and yeah I would say on average DHr leans much more rivalshipping. I know what you mean about being picky with fic and slipping into something more casual since that's basically the majority of my fandom experience. If I'm genuinely serious about something (e.g. most of my OTP's) I have to write the fic myself lmao. Reylo is probably the one exception to that where I never ended up writing very much just because canon was So Good screams and there were a rare few handful of fics which leant more into that characterisation we both seem to prefer--- I generally just enjoyed daydreaming with Reylo and theorising than anything else lol.

Yeah, pretty much. People seem to want to group HP with high fantasy and it has no business there, but you can see where the impulse comes from. It's structurally unsound because of the war plot and heavier themes clearly not fitting into the whacky boarding school setting. The genre conventions do not get along with what she's trying to do with the war and it leads to bigger and bigger problems as the plot progresses.
I think them being classmates who have known each other as peers since childhood fundamentally changes the stakes and makes your job pretty difficult as far as trying to set up a B&tB dynamic. They're much more suited to doing a play on Romeo and Juliet. Where with SSHG, half the work is already done for you, the set up is built in, all you need is a reason to force them to spend time together.
I did end up needing to write my own reylo fic for exactly this reason lol. That, and the fandom refusing to provide Ben resolution with Luke. But the reylo AU machine is fantastic, a nigh-endless font of stories to read.

Hugo grew up in an unfortunate household with a father who lived up to his name. Throughout his childhood, he lived in a quaint house with his father and great grandmother. When he contracted Necrotic Paranoia, his father used him as a test subject for Abiprox Hepaxetine, a medicine meant to subdue and possibly cure the illness. Unfortunately, the medicine didn't work, and Hugo passed away at age eleven.
Somehow, Hugo was important enough to be resurrected by the Matron of Life, Tu'Uul. Not knowing his purpose, Hugo took the opportunity to make his life as happy as can be by setting up a small bakery. Here, he single handedly makes the lives of his neighbours better by being generally a good human being. He also volunteers to help the orphanage.

I do actually! I post about them more on my instagram, I'm currently working on two original stories I hope to turn them both into comics 🙃
The first one is of my oc Iken, a plague doctor, who's haunted by a ghost(Hugo) and makes friends with a witch(Phoena) and her wife(Mallory). I'm still working on it, but other characters are, Anwir, Jinx, Sevda and Dapperling.
My other story (which is more of a side project) is about the four horsemen of the apocalypse mainly focusing on Plague and her best friend/mentor Death. The oc's in that story are Dr. Plague Doo, Death/The Grimm Reaper, Famine and War.

what book are you currently reading? i just started shady hollow: a murder mystery by juneau black. i’ve been meaning to read it for ages, so i’m excited to finally get around to it.
what’s your favorite movie you saw in theatres this year? this is really hard to pick because i did see a lot of films this year, most of them screenings of older movies. my top three are probably labyrinth, goodfellas, and rear window. i do feel that elvis deserves an honorable mention as well because i did really enjoy that and it made me cry multiple times.
what do you usually wear? it depends on the day. if i’m at home i just wear athletic tights and a t shirt, but if i’m going to class i’ll throw on a cardigan as well and sometimes wear jeans instead of tights.
how tall are you? i’m 5′3″
what’s your star sign? do you share a birthday with a celebrity or historical event? i’m a pisces! i also share a birthday with johnny cash and victor hugo (and i’m one day away from sharing one with george harrison)
do you go by your name or nickname? they’re pretty interchangeable tbh. some people call me mallorie, but just as many call me mal.
did you grow up to be what you wanted to be as a kid? yes and no. i think that who i am as a person is the type of individual that i’ve always been and wanted to be, but in the tangible sense of a career, lifestyle, etc., i’m still in a transitional period of my life and can’t say yet if i’ll reach the more material goals set by my childhood self.
are you in a relationship? if not who is your crush if you have one? i’m not in a relationship, and i don’t really have any crushes aside from my multiple famous/fictional/tumblr mutual babygirls.
what’s something you are good at vs something you are bad at? ever since i was a child, i’ve been pretty talented in the arts (singing, acting, visual art, etc.) and i did really well in school, but i am absolutely terrible at sports or really anything atheltic.
dogs or cats? both! although i don’t know if i could live without a dog.
if you draw/write or create in anyway what’s your favorite picture/favorite line/favorite etc. from something you have created this year? it’s definitely this (technically unfinished) painting that i did of george harrison at the beginning of the year. i consider it one of my best works to date, and it was done at a time when i was really deep into a beatles phase so i think my love of the band and george really manifested into the work.
what’s something you’d like to create content for? oh my gosh there’s so many things. i’m really big into any kind of pop culture/media so i draw a lot of celebrities that i love and things like that. i’d really like to continue to make art that shows my love of the beatles, but i would like to branch out into making art for some of my other loves like john denver, gvf, and the muppets. i’d also love to give writing fanfic for any of the fandoms i’m in a try.
what’s something you are currently obsessed with? well i’m obviously obsessed with the beatles and gvf, but i also adore john denver, the solo works of all the beatles, the muppets, the simpsons, film (particularly old hollywood and 80s films), and a million other things. i’ve also been hyperfixating on seinfeld a bit lately bc that’s the show i’m currently watching.
what’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year? i think every year i convince myself that i’ll make new irl friends and finally have a full friend group or even get into a relationship, but that never really happens much. (although i am thankful for all of the darling friends i have made on tumblr. y’all mean so much to me.) i also went see paul mccartney in concert this year and while it was amazing and by no means disappointing, it didn’t hold the life-changing gravity that i thought it would, and it almost made me a bit sad because it reminded me how much time has passed since the beatles and that the people that i really care about won’t be around forever.
what’s a hidden talent of yours? i’m pretty good at impressions! i can do a lot of them, but some of my favorites are miss piggy, cher, bob dylan, chubby checker (specifically singing the twist), a ton of simpsons characters, jerry seinfeld and jimmy stewart. (the last two aren’t always great but they really make me laugh.)
are you religious? yes, but it’s a bit complicated. i was raised catholic, but i find that i don’t agree with all of the teachings of the catholic church, so now i’m trying to find where i stand in the religious community and where my beliefs and morals fit. it’s something i’m working on and figuring out as i go along.
what’s something that you wish to have at this moment? happiness, love, and peace

New headcanon/universe drop: Jacques Villareal remarried (he's too hot to stay single, OK?), and his second wife is no other than Mallory Landgraab. And they even have a son together, Theo!
Luna was NOT happy when she discovered that her (now ex) best friend was dating her father, and even less when Lory got pregnant and Jacques proposed.
Nancy, predictably, disowned her daughter (for "treason to the family name"). Which in turn meant that Geoffrey finally had enough and filled for divorce (he could bear with his wife cheating on him for all the duration of their relationship, and even the fact that some of his children weren't actually his, but the way she treated the kids? No more.).
Malcolm couldn't care less, as long as his twin was happy, she could marry a hay bale and he wouldn't flinch.
Johnny threw a "Happy disownment" party for his sister and made her promise that if Jacques ever hurt her in any way, that she would tell him; Don had some cousins who could help make the problem disappear (he said he was joking, but who knows?).
Hugo didn't care either; their father was happy once again, it was all that mattered.
Max started calling Mallory "the Trophy"; name that Luna adopted too, now that her friendship with Lory was definitively ruined. Max, though, doesn't actually mind Lory, she's just a little brat (I mean, she's Max, so: duh!).
As for Olivia and Teresa (Johnny, Mal, and Lory's younger sisters), they were too young at the time to really understand the age gap, and all that they cared about was if the baby would be a girl or a boy (they were a bit disappointed when they learned they would have a nephew, and not a niece, but they still adore the little boy - and anyway, about a year or two later, they got the niece they wanted, Joy).
Fun fact, Lory is quite taller than Jacques (at least 10 centimetres, maybe even 15); and that's without heels. Lory & Mal both inherited their tall frame from their mother.
