Friendship Test |Joe keery × reader
~ Rumors spread about you and Joe keery dating based on the little clips they see behind the scenes and when you guys are out together in public. While y'all film a video about friendship testing, you guys seem as if you're both head over heels for each other.
Warning: readers pronouns are she/her, usage of y/n, brief mentions of stranger things
Tumblr media
---------×--------------×--------------×------------------×--
"I feel like I'm pretty close to him, I mean I think he knows me pretty well and I know him pretty well." You say to the camera as you describe your and Joe's friendship and what your perspective of it is. The people behind the camera laugh, since they heard something completely different from Joe.
"she bullies me, she's mean to me and she calls me names" Joe says to the camera with a straight and concerned face which causes the people behind the camera to go quiet, "I'm joking, none of that's true" Joe says as he cracks a smile to calm down the people behind the camera.
"when I first met him, I had so much fun with him on set, he might look scary and serious but once you get to know him or talk to him, he's like a black cat, if that makes sense..." You describe how you see Joe and how it was like when you first met him. The people behind the camera laugh again as they notice how you and Joe seem to be the same people but different fonts. (No wonder people ship y'all).
"I first met her and I was super scared. I mean she looked intimidating and she kinda looked like she knew what she was doing, which made me a little insecure until she talked to me and ever since then, she's been like a little golden retriever if that makes sense." Joe describes you as if you were something precious and valuable.
∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆
You and Joe finally get back in a room together and you both can't stop smiling. It's like you're both much more happier to just be in each other's presence. The people behind the camera then ask y'all to write 3 things that you like about each other.
"Jesus I gotta think about this one, there's really nothing good to you" Joe says in a joking way and acts as if he's thinking real hard, "ha ha very funny, you know you're not the most interesting person either" you say back in a sarcastic tone as you notice Joe already writing stuff down real fast. "Woah you're writing a lot", you say while looking from your paper to Joe writing a whole essay, "yes Im practically writing a novel over here" Joe replies back without looking up which causes you to laugh at his comment.
Once you and Joe finish, Joe then says "ladies first" and has you read your paper. "Joe, I think that you're one of the most calmest person I know when it comes to any situation" You finish reading the first part of your paper with a bright smile that makes Joe's heart melt. "Y/n...you are like a big ball of sunshine that can light up a dark room" Joe says as he looks up from his paper to see your reaction, "aww wait that's actually sweet I wanna redo mine" you say with a cute puppy face that Joe adores seeing every time. "Joe, I think your sarcastic humor can make any situation feel comfortable" you look up at Joe with a bit of a sour face not knowing if that's a compliment or not but Joe seems to relieve your unsure feeling, "well that's what I'm here for" Joes comment makes you let out a small scoff.
"Y/n, although you have a child mindset, you are very responsible when it comes to situations" Joe then looks up from his paper again only see you have a faint smile on your lips, "that's actually really nice". "Thank you" you and Joe say to eachother. "Joe I think you have a heart of gold, you have a super kind personality that everyone loves" you say as you look into Joe's eyes since they're staring deeply into yours, "thank you very much" "you welcome" you and Joe say to eachother again with bright smiles, "y/n, you are a very welcoming and trustworthy person, I feel like you're very open to everyone and you make people feel comfortable very easily" joe says while moving his hands around to explain how he sees you, "thank you thats really sweet" you reply to Joe's compliment with a warm smile.
-
"I actually like getting compliments, they make me feel better" you say while looking at the camera with a bright smile. "That was actually really nice, you know it's not every day that you look someone in the eyes and give them a compliment" Joe says as he looks in your eyes again, "yea usually it's brief short and simple but doing this made me feel better, did it make you feel better" you add onto to Joe's statement then ask him a question which he answers pretty fast, "yes honestly i enjoyed all this" joe moves his arms around his area to show that he's enjoying the whole 'interview' thing while purposely hitting you gently, this caused you to swat his arm away from your face and push his shoulder as joe laughs with the camera people.
∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆
Next the camera people had you and Joe stand Infront of each other and stare into each other's eyes for 4 minutes straight. You and Joe then look up to make eye contact but then you burst out laughing when Joe says that it's going to be awkward, "no no don't smile cause you're going to make me laugh" you say while trying to hold in your laugh. You then cool down from your laugh and now it's you and Joe staring into eachother eyes in complete silence, now that you're actually looking at him close up, he's actually really handsome and when did he get so many moles? (they still look cute). Joe admires your eyes that are big and sparkly, he notices how Everytime you blink, you look at his other eye. Joe then sees how your lips always have a little curve at the end, and how your eyes look almost identical to fox's eyes but that just makes your eyes look even more beautiful.
"You know it's not every day that you stare into your best friends eyes for 4 minutes" Joe break the silence with a statement which causes you to laugh, "yea I don't really do this often, I have trouble making eye contact with people" you say with a faint smile on your lips, "I know you do, that's why you keep looking from one eye to the other" Joe then points back and forth from his left eye to his right eye, "okay okay sorry I'll look at the right one", you say as you try your best to stay focus to one eye, "it's okay, it's fine" Joe says in a quiet tone for only you to hear.
"Your pupils are really small" you tell Joe, "I haven't even been looking at your pupils, I didn't even know they were there" Joe says with realization that he's been focused on you instead of your eyes, this causes you to laugh and almost break eye contact which Joe then puts his hands on both sides your shoulders to hold you still from moving around from laughter. "Don't make me laugh then I can't concentrate" you say while trying to hold back your smile
"And time" a person from behind the camera says which doesn't cause you and Joe to break eye contact, "okay stop stop" you say as you look away while covering your face, "I can't look away, I don't want to look away", Joe says while looking at you turn away from him, "no look away" you reply back to joe as you fan your face to stop it from turning red.
-
"That was great honestly" you say as you sway from side to side and bumping shoulders with Joe. "That's definitely something new to her" Joe says while pointing a finger towards your direction, "yes completely new but it was honestly relaxing for some reason" you nod your head after adding on to Steve's statement, "it was kinda crazy how our bodies would connect like how you would laugh which would make me laugh but once you stopped laughing then my body suddenly stopped laughing too", Joe says as he tries to explain how his experience was while still not looking away from you (you were making brief eye contact towards him). Joe then wraps his arm around your shoulder with a smile and almost out of instinct, you wrap your arm around his waist and pose as if it was a family (or a couples) picture.
∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆
You and Joe then were told to do a trust fall with eachother. It sounded more exciting than it actually was.
"Okay promise to catch me, don't play a stupid joke" you say as you finally look deep into Joe's eyes, "okay I won't drop you" Joe says but then side eyes the camera which you notice then makes you hesitant, "no joe dont do that, promise not to drop me" you say as you playfully hit Joe's shoulder to tell him to cut it out but then you stick you pinky out for joe to intertwine. "Okay okay I won't drop you for a stupid joke" Joe intertwines his pinky with your but not before rolling his eyes playfully.
You then have your back faced towards Joe with both your arms crossed over your chest, "okay ready?". "Yes I'm ready go" after Joe says that he's ready you let your whole body go and fall backwards, Joe catches you with ease and then he pushes you back up in a playful but forceful way which caused you to almost fall forward, you then turn around and smack him on his chest as he tries to block himself from your hits, "okay okay I'm sorry, we'll do it again" Joe says as he still tries to block and defend himself from being "abused", "okay but this time done do anything stupid, I mean it Joe" you say as you point a finger in his face, trying your best to scare him but he just found you cute.
Your back is facing Joe again but this time you're putting all you're trust into him, I mean it is called 'trust fall' for a reason, you then fall backwards and Joe catches you with ease again but then he squats down while still holding your weight which makes you lean back further, "okay Joe STOP!" You almost scream out as you reach your hands Infront of you in hopes of grabbing something to prevent you from falling backwards.
Joe pushes you back up while laughing at your reaction, you on the other hand was not a fan of it as you kept smacking him on his back or wherever you can hit him as he kept moving and blocking your hits. Your hits were nothing to Joe, it almost felt like he was getting hit by a baby, your punches were weak even if you were putting all of your strength to get back at him for almost making you fall twice. You and Joe then get everything together and have Joe take his turn. Now Joe's back was facing towards you and as a joke, Joe threatened to put all his weight and jump on you hoping that you catch him.
Joe waits for your signal to let him know that you're ready but behind his back you're mentally and physically preparing yourself for the amount of weight you're about to catch. You were stretching and shaking your arms as the camera crew laughed at your actions which caused Joe to look back confused with all the laughter. Joe then sees you warming up which caused him to roll his eyes playfully at your antics. "Okay I'm finally ready go" you say as you have your arms extended out waiting for joe to fall backwards.
"Okay I go?". "Yea go". "Now?". "Yea dude I'm ready". "Alright..." You and Joe went back and forth as joe was a little scared that you were gonna sabotage him as he did to you and you were scared that you were gonna drop him and you'll both go down together. As you wait for joe to fall backwards he continued acting foolish, "okay I go now right?" Joe says as now he's acting silly just to hear your laugh as it was music to his ears. "YES JOE GO!" You say loudly while laughing at his actions then unexpectedly, he fell backwards and you caught him successfully but not without you struggling a little.
Joe laughed at your little grunts that he could hear behind him as your struggle to push him up. Once you pushed him up, you let out a loud breath, "okay again?" Joe says as he prepared to fall backwards on you again, "no no no no" you say frantically as you speed walk away from him to avoid from getting squished by him. This caused Joe and the camera people to laugh.
∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆∆
You and Joe then decide to close out the video by saying your goodbyes. "Yayyy we're done, now we're the bestest of friends" you say in a sarcastic joyful tone as you hug Joe's arm, which caused him to touch your arm with his left arm (the arm that you're not holding), "yea I'm pretty hungry, you down for sum pizza later?" Joe asks you which you respond with your face lighting up, "I don't know if I should eat pizza right now, it might make me lose my muscles" you say while releasing your hold on Joe's arm and flexing your arm to show your non existent muscles. Joe chuckles but then plays along with you, "yea sure, matter a fact I think I have bruises on my back cause of you" Joe says as he starts to turn around and prepare to lift his shirt to show his back but then he gets interrupted by you, "nu uh alright guys that's all for today byeee" you say with a bright smile and standing with your arms open Infront of Joe to block out anything that the camera could catch of Joe's toned back.

So made a thread version of this on Twitter, but here’s a sermon in honor of my surprise Númenor fave from this season: Valandil!
My friends and I on Tumblr/Twitter noticed that in both the proclamation and Galadriel’s challenge, Valandil steps up while nobody else wants to go first.
Tumblr media
We agreed that he has some big Eldest Child “I gotta make it happen or it won’t happen” energy.
We also theorized a background of underprivilege, at least in comparison to Isildur and Ontamo. I feel this most when Isildur gets them all failed from the Sea Guard — Ontamo isn’t happy, but Valandil is *beside himself* with rage - to the point that he trashes Isil’s dead mom.
Tumblr media
And you’ll notice Valandil’s the one that makes the “your father got you a spot” jab when Isildur makes it on the boat. The tension only really eases when Elendil reveals he’s made Isildur a stable sweep.
Tumblr media
Oh and also! He’s the Star Pupil! Remember Galadriel’s “How to Kill An Orc For Dummies” Class? She said Stab, Twist, Gut. Behold, when Valandil comes to Middle-Earth: stab, twist, gut!
Tumblr media
(He deserves a gold star. And a cookie.)
He spends a lot of time holding ppl up at the end of this season 2. Here he is carrying Isildur and supporting Miriel. He’s there to break the news to Elendil that Isildur is gone, and he’s there when Elendil has his “should’ve let the Elf drown” moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Someone on Twitter theorized that Valandil might evolve into one of the more prominent Faithful in later seasons, but a friend of mine here suggests that he could easily also become one of the King’s Men. He could observe Elendil’s grief and Míriel’s blindness and say “so much for being Faithful!”
Tumblr media
Whichever it is, this the Second Age and everyone is screwed in the end, and I reeeally don’t like the implications of a scene where Sauron casually hands him his sword back. Seems kinda ominous to me.
Tumblr media
Do we need to say anything about Valandil and Isildur? I don’t think so. I think this right here speaks for me.
Tumblr media
In conclusion!
He protecc
He attacc
But most importantly
He a SNACC

Waiting for someone to take it… home.
-
Joseph, Lisa Lisa, and Messina had already packed everything into the car, all pressing themselves into their chosen seats. You weren’t looking at them though, you didn’t even feel as though you were even in the same world as them. Your lips pressed to a bitterly sweet smile, brows downturned melancholically. The blond Italian man before you radiated love for you, soft green eyes held nothing but confidence for the mission at hand. You trusted he would come back, but something about this whole situation felt wrong. Terribly, terribly wrong.
The last words he spoke lost themselves in a soft mutter, and for a second, you saw the confidence in his eyes falter. As if he were afraid or nervous. Discreetly, as not to alert the other parties around you both, his hand slips from his pocket. Something encapsulated in his large hand. “You are worthy of something so much more, la mia colomba, but…” Slowly unfolding, your face grows incredibly hot as the small box lined with black velvet is displayed to you. He opens it, a single gold band is inside of it, glittering like the sun itself. A shocked and exasperated chortle leaves you. “It’s only for now. When I return I will replace it.” There is a gentle tenderness in his voice, one he’s never dared to use in public and risk ruining his image- but for you, he’d do anything.
Your heart practically leaps out of your chest, pounding hard enough to put any drummer to shame. “Oh, Caesar… It’s already so wonderful, I- It’s perfect, I love it.” It takes no time at all for him to slip the ring onto your finger, tears making their place and turning the scene before you into a watercolor.
From the car behind you, the loud brit in the front seat shouts. “Hey Caesar-ino, we gotta go.” the both of you give a weak glance over to him, your lover’s being a rather unimmunised one. Damn it, could that bastard be any louder?
His gaze returns to you, so sweet and gentle as he takes your features in. Joy is all he can feel in this moment, blocking out the fear and anxiety of the situation around the two of you. Looking at you now all he can feel is joy, because you are his joy. Honey drips from his voice as he speaks to you. “When I return, I will make you mine. We will wed, I promise you.” For three long years, you had been waiting for him to say something like that. Not just the sweet talk and poetic displays of his love for you. Something solid and genuine. Your bottom lip trembles as he continues. “I will always come back to you, il mio amore. Wait for me.” That last part was somewhere in between a statement and a question. More so begging.
Your hand comes to gently cup his cheek, to which he places a gentle kiss to your palm. “Caesar, love of my life, I will always wait for you. No matter what, I promise you.” That seemed to soothe any worry he may have had away. You always seemed to be able to do that, a magical touch and gaze that you have. He did not kiss you goodbye like he usually does every day, for he was so sure that the kiss he gives you when you reunite will be one for the ages.
Like that he slips from your hold, leaving you with the remnants of his warmth as he joins his friend and mentors in the car. Suzie Q stands beside you as Joseph says his piece to her from the car as they drive off, the young woman tossing a rock in his direction in retaliation. You didn’t even fully register their conversation at all as you waved them goodbye, your gaze locked onto the man you love so dearly. Staying so and still as he faded off into the distance.
That was the last time you ever saw Caesar. But, just as he had asked, you waited for him.

Chapter Ten Stark Mansion, Los Angeles (Previous Chapter)
Just as Jack pinned the last photograph to the board and stepped back to admire his work, there was a loud knock on the door. “It’s open!”
“Ana went searching through her knitting supplies and found what you…what’s all this?”
“This, Jarvis, is an evidence board; I used to force the boys do ‘em back in New York for certain cases, mostly so they could keep track of evidence and discover new leads.” Jack took the spool of red yarn from Jarvis and grabbed a pair of scissors before measuring and cutting off strings. “We’ve got a lot of evidence that doesn’t match up, so I thought it’d be a good idea to lay it all out and see how everything connects.”
Jarvis made an impressed sound as he examined the board on the wall. “Several months ago, Ana joined a book club and we found that it was easier for her to understand the novels if she read them aloud to me. Why don’t you try the same thing with your evidence?”
Looking up from his work, Jack gave the butler a look of suspicion. “I thought you didn’t approve of our investigation.”
“I never said that, I merely pointed out that keeping your investigation from Miss Carter was morally wrong.” Jarvis retorted as he crossed his arms and raised his eyebrows expectantly. “Go on, then. If it makes you more comfortable, you can always pretend you’re talking to Miss (Y/L/N) instead.”
Something about the butler’s suggestive tone and the knowing gleam in his eyes caused Jack’s face to warm, and he hastily turned back towards the board with his red strings in hand. “Um, okay then. In 1917, Michael Carter was born in Hampstead, England to Harrison and Amanda Carter, and Peggy was born four years later.” Jack wrapped one end of a string around the thumbtack above Michael’s photograph and secured the other end to the one above Peggy’s SSR profile. “He kept his nose clean, made good grades in school and in ‘34, he was accepted into Cambridge University, where he studied Philosophy and Literature. He shared an apartment-sorry, a flat…” He glanced at Jarvis just as the butler gave him an eye-roll. “…with Adam Fieldman and William Attwell, two other students at Cambridge.”
“And this Adam Fieldman is the one with the connection to the orangery Miss (Y/L/N) infiltrated?”
Jack nodded, using another string to connect Michael’s photograph to one of Adam Fieldman. “Yep, his old man owns it. According to one of the codes, the orangery was a front for the manufacturing and distribution of devices based on one of Stark’s stolen blueprints…at least, it was up until the other week. Anyways, I did a little digging and found out that Attwell joined the Royal Air Force in ’39 but was shot down during the Battle of Berlin; since his body was recovered from the wreck and identified by his family, we’ve ruled him out as an associate of Michael’s. Fieldman tried enlisting in the U.S. Army right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in ’41 but when he was declared 4F on account of his scoliosis, he officially moved back to the States to work for his old man.” He pointed to a sheet of paper pinned beneath Michael’s photograph. “According to both an official British Royal Army report and a copy of an SOE file, Michael was declared missing in action in ’40; there was no body recovered, but it was assumed that he died on the battlefield and was buried in a mass grave.”
Moving forward, Jarvis gestured to a document pinned onto the lower half of the board. “And what’s this?”
“That’s a summary of all the information (Y/N) and I pulled from ‘M. Carter’s’ file. During the whole Zero Matter thing back in July, Vernon Masters sent me to London to get dirt on Peggy; a buddy of mine in MI5 gave me that file documenting her alleged war crimes, but I realized pretty quick that there’s no way Peggy could’ve done those things. I decided I’d take it back to New York with me once the Zero Matter case got closed, but not before making a copy and hiding it at the SSR; good thing I did, too, ‘cause I was shot and the original file was stolen…but anyways, yeah, that’s everything we’ve gotten from the file so far.”
“You haven’t said anything about this man,” The butler pointed to another photograph attached to a handwritten address. “Is he the one who shot you?”
“Nope, that’s Aaron Templeton and his last known address; we think he’s a hired hand who helped carry out the bank robbery downtown a few weeks back.” Jack connected his photograph to Michael’s with another string. “Based on the intel (Y/N) gathered from the orangery, Templeton was bumped off for leaving the device behind after the robbery, so that proves he wasn’t that integral to their plans. They made off with forty thousand dollars in gold, so we’ve theorized that they’re using the gold to fund their operation.” He looked back at Jarvis and frowned at his befuddled expression. “What?”
Jarvis gave him a small shrug and forced smile. “Oh, it’s nothing.” But as Jack continued to stare him down, he hastily added, “Well, this may very well be my inner Agatha Christie fan speaking, but there appears to be quite a few gaps in your investigation. Who was your shooter? What exactly is Mr. Carter’s so-called operation and why does it need funding? And why did Mr. Carter supposedly write down valuable information in the file and risk possible exposure?”
“I can see why Stark keeps you around.” Jack grumbled, his good mood slowly dampening at the butler’s words; their case wasn’t simple as he presumed it was, and it was clearer than ever that if he wanted to return to New York, they had a lot more work to do. And they said life after the war would be easy, Jack thought with an inward eye-roll. “Well, thanks for your honesty, Jarvis. I guess I’ll have to-”
The ringing of the telephone interrupted his words, and he watched as Jarvis strode across the room to answer it. “Mr. Stark’s residence.” His face brightened. “Miss Carter! How are you?” After a moment, his smile fell. “Chief Thompson? He’s, um, he’s sunbathing by the pool, of course; he mentioned this morning that he wished to work on his tan.” Jack rolled his eyes at the lie. “Would you like me to give him a message? Splendid, we shall see you soon.” He set the handset back down on its receiver and turned to face Jack. “That was Miss Carter. She was calling to inform you that she’ll be here shortly with some paperwork for you to sign regarding a routine prisoner transfer.”
“All right, I’m gonna give (Y/L/N) a call to let her know.” Once Jarvis left the room, Jack went over to the phone and picked up the handset before dialing the telephone number he’d unintentionally committed to memory.
“Hello?”
The obvious exhaustion in the codebreaker’s voice caused Jack to frown in concern. “Geez, Specs, you sound like shit. I didn’t wake you up, did I? It’s almost noon!”
He could barely make out (Y/N)’s familiar sigh of exasperation. “You’re a real charmer, you know? And yes, in fact, you did wake me up; I was up late working on a code and finally called it quits around four in the morning.”
“(Y/L/N)...”
“I know, I know, I should get more sleep but that damn code…” She let out frustrated huff. “I take it you didn’t call just to scold me about my terrible sleep patterns, though. What’s up?”
“Peggy’s coming over in a bit with paperwork for me to sign, so we’re not gonna be able to meet up until later. I’ll give you a ring to let you know when it’s okay to come over.”
“Okay, that’ll give me a chance to look over that code with fresh eyes. Oh, and that reminds me, when I come over I want to see what sort of progress you’re making on the code I gave you to practice with the other day.”
“Sure, just as soon as you cough up those two bucks you owe me.”
Jack could practically hear her rolling her eyes, and it took all he had not to laugh out loud. “Excuse me?”
“Yeah, you bet me two bucks that the Dodgers were gonna win the World Series and last I checked, they got their asses handed to ‘em last Monday by the Yankees. Got anything smart to say to that, Specs?”
“…Nope, have a good day!”
There was a soft click before the line went silent, and Jack didn’t even bother suppressing his chuckle of amusement that time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You’re in an uncharacteristically good mood today, Jack; could it be that you’re finally beginning to enjoy Los Angeles?”
Jack shrugged noncommittally as he scribbled his signature on the bottom of a document. “More like beginning to tolerate it.” He glanced up just in time to catch Peggy’s smirk. “What?”
Her smile widened. “Nothing, it’s just that I didn’t think very highly of Los Angeles when I first arrived out here either, but I’ve slowly grown to appreciate the…unique charms that the West Coast has to offer.”
“Unique charms, huh? Is that a new nickname you’ve given to Sousa, and can I start calling him that too?”
“Sod off, Thompson.” Jack chuckled as Peggy shot him a glare; once he finished his work, she gathered up the newly-signed documents and tucked them neatly into her briefcase. “Well, that’s all I have for you. Naturally, I would’ve waited until Monday to have you sign these but the FBI was rather agitated that they hadn’t received them yet. Their charm knows no bounds, doesn’t it?”
“No kidding. They’re probably still pissed off about the whole Vernon Masters thing; it’s not the SSR’s fault he got blown to hell by Whitney Frost, but I guess they don’t see it like that.” Standing up from the dining room table, Jack faked a yawn as he stretched his arms. “Now if you’ll excuse me, Marge, I’ve gotta get some more tanning in before my afternoon nap.”
Rolling her eyes, Peggy stood and put her hat back on before grabbing her briefcase. “Well, don’t let me stop you, I’m just going to have a quick word with Mr. Jarvis before I leave.”
To keep Peggy from becoming suspicious, Jack made his way into Stark’s sprawling backyard and made himself comfortable on one of the chaise lounges beside the pool; he stretched his legs out, crossed his ankles and, with his hands resting behind his head, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “Yeah, maybe I could get used to this…”
Although Jack would never publicly admit it, Peggy’s speculation had been correct; the longer he’d stayed in Los Angeles, the more he’d been enjoying himself. The endless sunshine and glitzy Hollywood scene couldn’t take all the credit for his feelings, as that honor belonged to a certain snarky codebreaker. Since the end of the war, he hadn’t exactly had friends. He’d had many great coworkers and a couple of brief romantic flings, sure, but he’d never truly felt comfortable enough around any of them to open up in any sort of meaningful way. With (Y/N), however, it was a different story and he’d found himself appreciating her more and more for that as their partnership grew. You’d better not get too comfortable, he once again warned himself, as soon as you solve this case you’re headed back to New York, hopefully to bigger and better things if you’re lucky, and she’ll still be here…
The nearby sound of a dry leaf being stepped on startled Jack out of his silent contemplation; snapping his eyes open, he looked over just in time to see a large, black-clad man lunging towards him with a knife in hand. Acting on instinct, Jack rolled himself off the lounge chair and sprang to his feet in time to dodge another swipe of his knife. Jack caught the man’s wrist and twisted it sharply so that the knife slipped out of his grasp; he kicked it into the pool just before the man landed a hard punch on his jaw that sent him reeling. The man kicked his stomach and his back hit the wall of the pool house hard; before Jack could react, the man punched him again before wrapping his hands around his neck and squeezing. Struggling for air, Jack slammed his arms down on the man’s and used the distraction to head-butt him before landing a couple of punches to his face, the last one causing the man to drop unconscious to the ground.
Panting, Jack wiped away a trickle of blood from the corner of his mouth and took the opportunity to get a good look at his attacker; he was light-haired, muscular and definitely familiar, but Jack couldn’t think of where he might’ve seen him before.
“I’ll see you on Monday, Thompson! Thompson?”
Peggy’s faint call made Jack spring into action; he picked his attacker up in a fireman’s hold and staggered into the pool house, throwing the unconscious man onto the ground and slamming the door closed behind him. He peeked through the curtains just as Peggy came into view; she glanced around the backyard for a moment before shrugging and going back into the house, much to Jack’s relief. He glanced back down at the man on the floor with a deepening frown. “Now, who the hell are you?”
Almost as soon as (Y/N) laid eyes on Jack, her easy-going smile was replaced with a look of concern; when she gently touched his chin and moved his head to get a better look at his swollen cheek and neck, Jack was grateful that his blush was masked by the rapidly-forming bruises. “He really did a number on you, Flyboy. Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Well, I’m definitely doing better than he is.” Jack tried to grin but only ended up wincing in pain. “Not by much, though. C’mon, I’ve got him tied up in the pool house; let’s wake him up and find out who he is.” He led her into the backyard and to the pool house, holding the door open for (Y/N) to enter. “There’s something about him that seems familiar, but-”
“I know who he is.” Jack turned towards her and watched as she stared down at the unconscious man tied to a chair. “He’s one of the guards from Fieldman Family Orangery; I knocked him out with my compact mirror.” She looked back up at him, her brow furrowed in concern. “It looks like you just foiled another one of their assassination attempts.”
He nodded. “And this time I’m getting a few answers for my troubles.” Striding over to the man, Jack kicked the leg of the chair and stepped back when the man jolted awake. “Had a good nap, Sleeping Beauty? Now, my partner and I are gonna need you to answer a few questions for us, so how ‘bout we start with a name.”
The man spat onto the ground and growled, “Screw you.”
“Well, that’s not very polite.” Jack quipped, grabbing the man’s blonde hair and wrenching his head up before punching him in the face; the man groaned and Jack stepped back to look at the rapidly-swelling welt on his cheek. “How ‘bout we try that again; who are you?”
“You’re gonna…you’re gonna have to try harder than that, Chief Thompson.”
Jack raised his fist to strike him again just as (Y/N) latched onto his arm. “Thompson, wait! We’re never going to get him to talk this way-”
“Sure we are, every suspect I interrogated for the SSR started singin’ like a bird after only five minutes alone in a room with me.” He gave the man a hard glare over (Y/N)’s shoulder before looking back down at her. “This mook won’t be a problem.”
(Y/N) huffed with impatience. “I don’t doubt that you’re a skilled interrogator, Flyboy, but I’m telling you that he’s on a whole other level. If we’re going to get information out of him, we need to try another way and I think I’ve got one.” Her (Y/E/C) eyes pleaded with him to trust her and after a long moment, Jack sighed and took a step back; her gaze softened as she gave him a brief nod. “Thank you.”
The man let out a snort of amusement when (Y/N) approached him, her arms crossed over her chest. “Hey there, sweet-cheeks. What’s a pretty thing like you gonna do to me? Teach me to crochet?”
Jack’s hands clenched into fists but he forced himself to stay calm and let (Y/N) continue the interrogation herself; she smiled easily at the man and began pacing before him. “No, but we can always get to that later on if you’re not feeling too sick.” Both Jack and the man frowned in confusion. “Oh, I recognized it the moment I stepped into this room; you’re an opiate addict. As I’m sure you know, it can be very uncomfortable for an addict to be without their chosen drug for too long and judging by the way you look right now, it’s been quite a while since you’ve had a fix.”
“I…I don’t know what you’re talkin’ about…” The man’s face had lost all color and his hands were twitching against the arms of the chair.
“Right now, you’re experiencing some heavy sweating and anxiety, but you’re most likely used to those symptoms at this point in your addiction.” (Y/N) sighed and shrugged her shoulders. “Unfortunately for you, though, what you’re feeling now is nothing compared to how you’re going to feel later tonight. Abdominal cramping, tremors, vomiting…yes, it’s going to be a very uncomfortable time for you, especially since no one but the two of us knows you’re here.” How the hell does she know so much about dope addictions, Jack silently pondered, adding it to the ever-expanding list of questions he’d been dying to ask his partner. She turned back to face the man, her mouth set in a hard line. “So if you want to avoid all that unpleasantness, then I suggest you answer my partner’s question; who are you?”
The man immediately stammered out, “P-Peter Hanson.”
Jack moved to stand beside (Y/N). “Good, that wasn’t so hard. Why were you trying to kill me?”
“I was hired to, okay? The boss of my boss thought you were onto him so I was hired to bump you off in your hotel room! Once the main boss heard you were still alive, I was hired again and told that if I fail this time, he’d cut off my supply.” Jack and (Y/N) exchanged looks of confusion, and Hanson added impatiently, “My dope supply, he knows that I need it!”
(Y/N) crossed her arms once again. “All right, then. Now, tell us the names of your bosses, what they were up to at Fieldman Family Orangery and where they are now.”
Hanson let out a frustrated growl and bit his lip before answering, “The guy who hired me, his name’s Thomas, Thomas Attwell, but I don’t know the main boss’ name or what they do. I haven’t seen any of ‘em in weeks, either.”
“You hungry, Specs? How ‘bout we go grab a bite to eat and come back later?” Jack suggested. “I’m sure our new friend here wouldn’t mind waiting for us…”
“I’m not lyin’! I’m just a hired hitman, my boss never talked serious business ‘round me!” Hanson frowned, as if he was trying to recall something. “I remember one time, though, Attwell was talkin’ to another guy at the orangery – son of the guy who owned the place, I think – and he kept callin’ their work a ‘Secret Empire’ or somethin’ like that, like it was a code.” (Y/N)’s eyes widened at his words, but before Jack could react, Hanson shakily continued. “Look, these guys are nuts; I saw them torture and kill a guy just ‘cause they said he lost somethin’ important to ‘em, and that’s not even the worst thing I’ve seen. I just wanna get away from ‘em before I get in too deep…”
“Well, we need to verify the information you’ve given us before there’s any talk of what to do with you, so if you’ll excuse us…” (Y/N) ushered Jack out of the pool house and closed the door before hurrying alongside him into the mansion and to his room, where their evidence board was still hanging on the wall; she quickly made a bee-line to the board and, after putting on her reading glasses, looked over the documents and photographs pinned onto it. “Where’s the-ah, here! Yep, Thomas Attwell is the younger brother of William Attwell, Michael’s former roommate in college; I’d bet my Fleetmaster that he’s the mystery man I heard talking in the orangery.”
Standing beside her, Jack pointed to the photograph of Adam Fieldman. “And you were right about what you said the other week, Fieldman’s definitely the second guy you heard in the orangery.” He grabbed his red yarn strings and a pen, working on amending the board as he talked. “From the sound of it, Fieldman’s in charge of the manufacturing and distribution aspect of their little operation while Attwell’s there to keep their guys in check for Michael. But we still don’t know why the hell they’re robbing banks with stolen Stark tech-”
“I do.” With a weary look, (Y/N) took of her reading glasses and set them on the desk beside them. “The Secret Empire isn’t code for anything, it’s the name of an organization that existed within Hydra during the war. Originally, it started out as a criminal enterprise that generated financial support for Hydra after they broke away from Hitler and the Nazis; they also worked to secretly distract the SSR from Hydra’s activities whenever they could so needless to say, they were a massive pain in our asses throughout the war.”
Jack furrowed his brow in confusion. “If they only existed during the war, then why’s there a chucklehead in the pool house saying they’re still around?”
“Before Steve Rogers took down Hydra in ‘45, there were some rumors going around that the Secret Empire wanted to break away and form their own independent group. It was just here-say, though, and when Hydra fell we all assumed that the Secret Empire went down with them; thinking back on it now, it was a little weird that there was complete and total radio-silence on their end…” (Y/N) bit her lip as her gaze danced between Jack and the evidence board. “What if a new iteration of the Secret Empire got a hold of Howard’s blueprints, used them to manufacture weapons and began committing bank robberies as a way to build their organization back up?”
“That explains why the bank robbers ignored the cash and only went after the gold; that’s a universal currency if I’ve ever seen one.” With a sigh, Jack stepped forward and tapped a finger against the photograph of a smiling Michael Carter. “So, I guess Michael really was Hydra the whole time, and now he’s a member of this new Secret Empire. There’s one question Hanson didn’t answer, though: What’s their next move?”
(Y/N) opened her mouth to reply but was interrupted by someone clearing their throat behind them. They both whirled around to see Howard Stark standing in their doorway, his arms crossed over his chest and his signature smirk on his face. “I think I can answer that one for you, Chief Thompson. But first, could you two do somethin’ about the guy in the pool house? I’ve got a pool party scheduled for later tonight and I can’t have him ruining the mood for everyone…”
summary: after accidentally inserting herself into a treasure hunt with four teenagers, one of which could be considered her 'friend with benefits', y/n grubbs is left to deal with the complications and misfortunes that come along with it - including her ever-growing feelings for said 'friend with benefits'.
( gif isn't mine! please let me know if it's yours so i can credit you. )
Tumblr media
If someone had told you a week before that you would lose your father, get your house raided by two men you had never seen before in your life, make friends with a group of teenagers, embark on a two hundred year old treasure hunt with said teenagers, and be hanging out with JJ Maybank every day and willingly, all in the space of one week; you'd have laughed in their face, asked them what drugs they were on and could you have some, and then laugh in their face again.
But alas, there you were. You still couldn't quite believe it, especially the JJ part. You'd had worries at first, like would the gang really want you involved, did they secretly hate having you around, were they just being nice and letting you in on this because your dad had died? All the doubts swirled in your mind, running around like clock-work, just ticking away constantly in the back of your head. Surprisingly, JJ had been the one you'd gone to about them.
"I just feel guilty," you'd said. It was after a day of riding around in John B's boat and using fancy hotels' WiFi, and 'borrowing' a drone from JJ's dads old workplace. His eyebrows furrowed when he looked at you, confused. "I mean, you guys have been friends for like, forever. And then I just show up and you conveniently find out about John B's dad and the treasure hunt on the same day when I'm there, and it's just like - I don't belong with you guys, it's your thing and I'm just kinda, here."
"You're part of this just as much as we all are," he'd told you, matter of fact. His body was angled to face you as you sat outside John B's self-proclaimed Chateau, a freshly rolled blunt being passed back and forth between the pair of you. "You need to stop doubting yourself, man. You're apart of us now."
The words had warmed your heart, an instant smile being spread on your lips as you looked at him through red-rimmed eyes. Underneath the setting sun, he looked almost angelic; his golden hair blowing in the slight breeze, tanned skin exposed due to the heat. You had pretended not to notice the tense of the muscles in his arms whenever your fingers brushed when you passed the juul between yourselves.
"You're too kind to me, Maybank," you'd grinned, boot-clad foot nudging his knee gently. "If I didn't know you so well I'd have thought you'd have ulterior motives."
"Who says I haven't?" He'd smirked back. You'd just smiled, teeth biting down on the plump skin of your bottom lip before you'd looked away from his burning gaze and focused your attention on anything, anywhere but JJ fucking Maybank.
You got along with the gang amazingly, you couldn't doubt that. Pope was the smartest guy you'd met, sweet and funny and passionate and so certain of what he wanted to do in life. Kiara, or Kie, as you'd come to call her, was very environmentally involved, almost too cool for the guys, you thought. She cared so much about so many things, and she had a great taste in music too. John B was a bit like you, you supposed. Fatherless, on the hunt for answers, things like that - but other than that he was a great guy, the makeshift leader of the little group, a little lost in life, but that was to be understood.
And then there was JJ. You felt most comfortable around the blonde, but that was kinda a given too, due to the fact you'd seen each other in your most vulnerable states that came with having sex rather regularly, something the other members of the gang didn't share. He was a spit-fire, always ready to throw a punch and fire threats at those who deserved it, head-strong and stubborn. But he was more so caring, God he cared so much for his friends, you'd discovered. He would do just about anything for them, whatever position that put him in. JJ put the gang before himself, always. You'd noticed all different types of things about JJ especially, little things you had never taken the time to notice before.
These little discoveries probably came from watching him too much, you'd thought one night. It was a bit of a problem, though you never mentioned it. The unspoken rule amongst the group was No Pogue on Pogue Macking, which basically meant everyone was off limits to each other. You understood the rule, Kie having been the only girl before you'd arrived on the scene amongst three guys, and after becoming apart of the gang you had no choice but to respect it - which also meant that JJ was off limits. But was he technically off limits when you'd already been there, so far past the line on macking with each other?
There was some sort of agreement between the two of you, that in order to make this work; your friendship with the Pogues, the hunt for the Merchant's treasure, that nothing could happen. You'd spoken briefly about it that first day, outside the lighthouse beside the Twinkie (John B's van, you'd learned had a nickname), we're cool, right? Pretend we haven't seen each other naked, conversation. It had been cut short, but it still happened. And the pair of you never mentioned it after that, a few off-handed comments here and there from JJ, but nothing specific. So you assumed yours and JJ's hook ups were off the table, and you had no idea why that had come to bother you so damn much.
On the day following your talk with JJ on John B's porch, he'd invited you to come along with him and Pope as they delivered groceries for Pope's dad, Heyward. You had almost said no, because really, you could probably do with a break from the Maybank boy, all the time spent with him was doing no favours for your little situation of Fighting Attraction While Hunting For Gold. That's what you were putting it down to in your mind anyway, too much time spent with the person you're sleeping with can begin to mess with anyone's head, and hey, maybe it was the fact that you were grieving and JJ was familiar - but you couldn't be doing with all these thoughts anymore.
Despite the angel on your shoulder urging you to turn his offer down, you'd said yes. But that was little to do with JJ and more to do with your mom and your current home situation, which was unbearable, to say the least. Your mother was barely speaking to you, as if she was scared of letting something slip if she did. In return, you shut her out, too. Told her lame excuses and empty lies when you were heading out with the gang, lying through your teeth when she'd asked where you were or where you were going.
Lana Grubbs wasn't a stupid woman, though, and you knew she knew you were up to something. But she hadn't mentioned anything outright yet, and so you hadn't said anything either. The hole your father had left was huge and gaping, evident in both your lives. You hadn't spoken about it yet, and you weren't intending to until she could be completely honest with you. You didn't want to hear anymore lies, and you were already on the path to discovering the full truth. On your own.
Her words echoed in your mind every time you left the house, voice small and gentle as she never failed to say the same thing. "Just be careful." You'd always look over your shoulder, and she'd never look back at you. She hadn't looked at you much at all since your dad had died.
It was after a certain drop-off of groceries, you'd joined JJ in his delivery whilst Pope had docked the boat and gone off to deliver his own, yours and JJ's strides matching as you walked the seemingly never-ending drive of the abnormally large house that loomed over you. The Kook part of the island never ceased to intimidate you, no matter how much you didn't want it to. There was something about it, the people that lived amongst it, that unsettled you whenever you entered it. Figure Eight wasn't somewhere you usually visited other than an odd job you'd picked up, and you were reminded why of that fact as you walked alongside JJ.
"Just think," he breathed, all starry eyed and parted lips as he gazed around the pair of you. "This could all be ours soon."
You snorted, bumping his side with your own. "Don't be melodramatic, JJ,"
"I'm serious!" JJ protested. His sea blue eyes caught yours when he turned his head to look at you head-on. The intensity of his stare almost made you stop in your spot, but you managed to carry on, gulping when his eyes continued to hold yours. "I'm sticking to my earlier statement, right, we're going to move here, and out-rich all these fuckin' Kooks."
"Out-rich?" You raised an eyebrow, lips quirking. "Your grammar is so adequate, Maybank."
"It's a word," JJ insisted, nudging your side with the point of his elbow. "Who the fuck uses words like adequate these days, anyway? I don't even think Mrs. Humphrey knows what that word means."
You laughed at the mention of your shared English teacher, the grey-haired, short, spectacle wearing woman immediately entering your mind. JJ grinned when he heard your laugh, dimples winking in his cheeks.
"Mrs. Humphrey can't even spell Wednesday," you giggled, JJ chuckling along with you as he nodded. "It's a wonder how that woman has been working there for like, eighteen years or something."
Your steps faltered as you neared the door to the house, pace slowing as you both basked in the time spent with each other, though neither of you would admit it. "She was probably a good teacher at first," JJ said thoughtfully, shuffling the groceries in his hands. (You tried not to notice the way his arms looked when he did that, muscles clenching and on full show with his cut-off tank.) "I bet each year another brain cell of hers just like, dies."
"Wouldn't surprise me," you nodded. "Mine would attempting to teach classes full of teenagers," rather dramatically, you shuddered. "Especially if one of those teenagers was JJ Maybank."
"Hey!" JJ shouted, though his grin proved that he found your jab amusing. You laughed along with him, bumping his side once more as you finally landed at the door, watching as he turned to you, expression trying to be serious and failing, rather horribly. "You better watch yourself, Grubbs. I'm serious here, I can be a pretty scary guy if need be, y'know."
You didn't doubt that, of course. You'd seen JJ in action with your own two eyes, you knew what he was capable of. But somehow, stood with you there, on the doorstep of some filthy rich Kook's mansion, groceries in hand, blonde hair shining golden in the sun, sun-kissed skin exposed to your wandering eyes, grin on pink lips; you couldn't imagine JJ Maybank hurting a fly.
"Trust me, I know." You'd said just as he knocked on the door, shooting you one last toothy grin before the door was opened and he was pulled into a conversation with the woman who'd answered it, talking about all things from the weather to the next semester at school. You watched him all the while, smile growing on your lips without your knowledge as you took him in, seemingly in his element as he sweet-talked the middle-aged woman inside the house. When he turned to you suddenly, you startled, broken from your thoughts and caught red-handed staring at him like some freak. He grinned, tongue wetting his pink lips at the same time you internally groaned.
"I was just saying, the groceries," he trailed off as he pointed to the bags in your hands in which you'd forgotten were even there. You let out an 'oh' as you quickly passed the groceries over to the waiting woman, shooting her an apologetic smile as she looked at you knowingly. JJ nodded his head in your direction, speaking once more to the woman, "New guys, huh?"
You glared at him as the woman laughed, perfectly manicured hand reaching beside her and grabbing hold of her purse, pulling a note out with her slender fingers. She held the note out to JJ, who immediately tried to turn it down, insisting there was no need, but the woman was unrelenting - sending a pointed look your way as she told him, "For your troubles, sweetie."
JJ picked the note from her hands, a gracious smile being sent to her as he nodded. "It's been a long day," he sighed heavily and your jaw almost dropped as you resisted the urge to reach out and slap his arm. What a fucker. "Thank you very much, Mrs. Ramirez. I really appreciate it."
The woman, Mrs. Ramirez, as you learned, nodded and waved a hand. "No bother, sweetie," she told him before turning her eyes back to you. You forced a smile as she simply eyed you up and down, before sending an obviously forced one of her own. "And thank you." She said curtly, and you were ready to give her a piece of your mind before JJ was grabbing your arm and dragging you in the direction of where you'd come from, shouting one last thank you over his shoulder as he walked you back towards the boat.
It was when you were a safe distance away that you shook your arm from his hold only to slap him gently on his own as you glowered, glare smouldering as he laughed, throwing his head back as he stumbled beside you.
"You're such an ass," you huffed as you tried to ignore his chuckling, speeding your steps. "I mean, she literally just tipped you a hundred dollars for showing up and smiling, I'm sure if I had a third leg down there I would have got the same treatment too."
"Are you jealous?" JJ asked, having to jog slightly to keep up your hurried pace. His smile was huge and infectious, and you made a point not to meet his stare when he landed next to you in fear of breaking your fake annoyed stance. "Maybe if you weren't too busy checking me out then you could have talked to her, and y'know, make a small fortune yourself."
You scoffed, whirling around and halting him in place. He almost stumbled into you, and you stepped back when his hands landed on your arms to steady himself, shaking his grip off almost immediately. "I wasn't checking you out," you told him, matter of fact.
JJ grinned and ran a hand through his hair as he replied, "Sure you were," he shrugged. You crossed your arms over your chest and glared, biting down on your tongue as you resisted your own smile as he motioned to his body from head to toe. "Not that I can blame you, I mean look at me."
"I've looked, JJ," your voice was low when you said it, a knowing tone to your words. "I've looked, and I've seen it all, in case you forgot."
A low chuckle slipped past his lips. "How could I ever forget?" He asked rhetorically, tongue darting out to wet his chapped lips as you tried not to follow the action with your eyes, and failed, miserably. "Trust me, that image is forever dented in my brain. I think of it, sometimes. Just randomly."
You rolled your eyes. And he's back, _you thought. _He never left, a voice at the back of your head piped up. You ignored them both. "C'mon," you said, already turning on your heel and starting off in the direction of where Pope had docked the boat. "Let's go get these deliveries finished."
The pair of you said nothing more for the rest of the duration of the short walk back, and when the boat was in your sights JJ was off running, more than likely eager to show off his one hundred dollar tip to Pope, as you idled, watching his back as he ran. When you finally landed in the boat, it was silent. You immediately picked up on the tension, heavy in the small space, and shot JJ a confused glance when he looked back at you.
Slowly, you made your way towards where the two boys were up at the front of the boat, Pope situated at the wheel. The dark skinned boy was staring straight ahead, refusing to meet either yours or JJ's eyes. When you looked to the latter, he subtly shrugged a shoulder, letting you know that he had no clue himself what was going on with his best friend.
"Pope?" You questioned softly. "What's wrong?" When there was no answer, you shared another glance with JJ, his concern shining in his blue eyes. You tilted your head as you went to ask him again, but when you did, your eyes caught on to the colour crimson that was slowly streaming down the side of his face. You gasped and JJ startled, chest bumping your shoulder as he tugged the cap from Pope's head, revealing the injury near the top of his head.
"Jesus!" JJ exclaimed when he caught sight of the wound, Pope swatting at his hands that held his hat, pulling it back down once JJ had let go. "What happened?"
"Rafe and Topper jumped me," Pope's voice was slightly wobbly as he informed you both, a tear sliding down his cheek as he recounted, "They said no Pogues on their side of the island."
Your blood began to boil just as JJ demanded, "What are you gonna do?" His own jaw clenched in anger as he looked at his best friend, beaten and bruised in front of him from the hands of some entitled selfish pricks that thought they were better than everyone because they had more money in their pockets. Rafe Cameron was a name that never failed to make you queasy at just the mention of it, and his little gang of followers including Topper Thorton were just as unbearable.
"I have something in mind." Pope spoke, voice and stance determined. And something he did, as he drove to Topper's new boat - and promptly swam over and removed the plug from it, causing the new model to sink into the water as you and JJ watched from Heyward's boat, keeping an eye out for anyone that may have spotted your trio.
And though it was bad, and you knew you probably shouldn't have taken part in such an activity, nor prompted Pope to either; you couldn't deny the rush it gave you as you watched Topper Thorton's boat begin to sink, and maybe it was the fact that you knew that Topper was a Grade A Asshole and deserved it, or maybe it was Pope's own unsure but excitable adrenaline that mixed with your own, or maybe it was just the fact that JJ wrapped his arm around your shoulder without a care in the world as he shouted his support to his friend, squeezing you to his side almost unknowingly, like it was some kind of instinct.
Tumblr media
You thought, yeah, it probably was, as you immediately felt the loss of it when he moved to grab Pope in a hug. And then you thought, well shit.
There was a mutual share of disappointment when the gang had found just about absolutely nothing when you'd taken Pope's fathers boat out the next morning, drone ready and in hand to go hunt for the gold, where John B Routledge had marked down on the map it having been.
Granted, the Royal Merchant was there. It was just missing the one thing they were after - the gold was nowhere in sight, and the journey had been a complete waste of time. You thought it to be too good to be true, of course it had to be. Four hundred million in gold and you were expected to find it? There was no way, you thought bitterly as JJ steered the gang back to land, not one of you daring to speak as the disappointment crashed over you all in huge waves.
You'd departed with the guys not long after that, after promising Kie that you would accompany her to the annual summer movie night, making your way towards home. The bitter frustration ate away at your insides, you were mad, angry - fucking infuriated, each step the gang got closer to finding the gold, it was as if someone was stood in your path and shoving you all back another ten.
Had your dad really died for this? This seemingly never-ending hunt for promised gold that, for all you knew, could be complete and utter bullshit. You didn't understand it at first, when the pieces began to slot together, but it was like every time the chase got harder it made you want it even more; and then you understood your fathers fascination and Big John Routledge's obsession. This gold meant everything to you and the gang, and you knew, John B especially, would never give up on this chase.
"Hey, sweetheart," your mother called when you entered the house. The front door was still broken, only the screen in place, and was leaning against the wall as you maneuvered past it. Lana was sat at the couch, and when you walked in she'd shoved a box away from her, the lid laying haphazardly over the top. "I wasn't expecting you home so early."
You shot her a small and forced smile, shuffling your bag from your shoulder and onto the floor, landing with a soft thud. "Hey mom," you greeted back, noting her teary eyes and flushed cheeks. "What're you doing?"
When you arrived at the back of the couch, looking over her shoulder, you immediately recognised the box - Family Photos! _written atop _the cardboard.
"I was just looking through some old pictures," she told you, sniffling as she attempted to smile at you. "Just wanted to see his face again."
You nodded, your throat tightening at the mention of your dad. Reaching a hand up and wiping away her tears, she looked at you questioning, "Where have you been?"
"Just out," you said, bluntly and unconvincing. "Doing a few jobs here and there, y'know. Nothing exciting."
Lana hummed, quirking an eyebrow at you. "Mr. Phelps told me that he seen you with that Maybank kid the other day," she informed, your face falling for a millisecond as her words sunk in. She looked at you, tear-stained face and serious gaze, lips pulled to a thin line. "I told you to stay from those guys, Y/N."
"I was helping him deliver groceries, mom," you deadpanned - which wasn't exactly a lie, if that's when Mr. Phelps had spotted you. Most of your time spent with the gang was mainly off the land and away from prying eyes, whether that be on a boat or the Chateau, so you knew that was the safest bet of when you'd been spotted. "For Heyward's. It's not like I'm hanging out with him on purpose."
Lie, lie, lie. It was becoming alarmingly easy to lie straight through your teeth, and to your mother nonetheless, but you couldn't dare tell her anything, and why should you, when she hadn't told you anything? It took two to Tango, you thought.
"I just don't want you getting hurt," your mother reminded, and you let out a sigh as you nodded, faked closed-mouth smile on your lips. "I'm serious, Y/N, please just be careful out there."
"Always am," you promised (bull-fucking-shit). You turned on your heel, heading towards your room as you called over your shoulder, "I got invited out tonight, by the way. To the movie thing on the North Side. Is it alright if I go, please?"
You waited at your door, hearing your mother sigh from the couch. "Yes, you can go." You smiled, this one more real than all the rest, and thanked her gently. She didn't look back at you though, and the familiar unspoken tension was back with vengeance. You couldn't wait to get out of it.
The movie night was a welcome distraction from your frustrations with the treasure hunt, the haunting memories of your dad, and the tension with your mom. It was only you, Kie, Pope and JJ that attended - John B having seemingly disappeared for the day, none of the gang having heard from him. You'd managed to leave the house with relatively no questioning from your mom, and met JJ a little way down the block.
("Woah, keep two feet away from me please," you'd joked, halting in your tracks as you spotted him standing there. He'd furrowed his brows at you, frown etched on his face. "My cover's been blown, everyone knows about us!
He just looked even more confused, eyes squinting down at you as you raised a hand and layed it across your forehead dramatically. "What'd you mean?" He questioned, eyes darting around, seemingly searching for answers in the air around you both. "What, do people know we sleep together or something?"
You'd rolled your eyes, shoving him gently when you were close enough, beginning to walk away. "No, you doof," you chuckled. "Mr. Phelps ratted me out to my mom, told her that he saw us together the other day. I had to tell her that we were just delivering groceries for Pope's dad."
"Ah," JJ nodded, shooting you a mischievous grin. "We better go into hiding then, I'm thinking... log cabin in the mountains, all fur sheets and deer heads on the walls, ooh a hot tub too."
You laughed, "Trying to whisk me away there, Maybank?"
You were joking, but his eyes were surprisingly serious as he looked at you. "Always, Grubbs.")
The field was already packed full of people by the time the four of you arrived, groups of people scattered around, idle chatter filling the air. It was being held on the Kook side of the island, and your eyes swooped over the people, most of them being Kook's themselves, expensive clothing and an aura that just screamed, I'm better than you. It made you feel uneasy, but you tried not to think about it as Kiara led you through the crowds.
"I'm so glad they're still doing this," she tells you all, sighing happily. The faces of the guys revealed they were not nearly as happy to be there as she was, while you were simply just glad to be out of your house once again. "Keep calm, carry on. Back to normal, OBX life, y'know?" She stopped once she found a decent spot, turning to the three of you. "Aren't you guys glad I made you come?"
"Ecstatic." Pope deadpanned, sarcastic lull to his tone.
"My couch was pretty comfy." JJ piped up.
"I'm just happy to be out the house, I guess." You said.
You were aware why the guys were so uncertain about being there; it wasn't so long ago that Pope was sinking Topper Thorton's boat, you and JJ accompanying, and now you were all on his side of the island. Not only that, but you knew that if Topper was to discover that it was Pope who'd done his boat in, it wouldn't just be Topper that confronted him - it would be the full Happy Days Gang. Nothing was ever a fair game when it came to Kooks.
Kiara excused herself to go buy soda's from the conession stand, and you shifted as you seated yourself on the blanket you'd bought, having opted out of bringing a chair. You sat in front of JJ, his legs touching your back.
"What's wrong with you guys?" You turned your head when Pope and JJ began to whisper, the former's panicked eyes landing on you as you frowned at the pair.
"Topper and Rafe are on my ass," Pope revealed. "They know I sunk Topper's boat."
You sighed heavily, muttering a shit as JJ grabbed his friend by the arm, focusing his attention towards him. "They can't prove it, okay. Just deny, deny, deny."
Pope nodded along, muttering along with him as you watched the pair, before your eyes moved to Kie that arrived back, her eyes narrowing as she seated herself beside Pope. "Just saw Rafe," she informed, your blood running cold. You could practically feel JJ tense from behind you. "He said, and I quote, 'Tell your boy we know what he did'. What is that?"
"Um, where is he?" JJ questioned, his tone of voice revealing his hidden anxiety.
"Right there." Kiara nodded her head, right in the direction of where Rafe Cameron and his goons sat, as you, Pope and JJ whipped around, Pope practically turning his full body in their direction. You groaned as JJ desperately urged him to turn back round, and away from their taunting eyes.
"The whole death squad!" Pope exclaimed, anxiety riding off of him in waves.
"Don't stare, bro," JJ urged, hand wrapping around Pope's shoulders. You tuned out the rest of the blonde's words as he informed you all that he'd be coming out swinging if they were to corner him, and you felt dread build as you heard his last words. "If that doesn't work, I got this right here." He patted his bag.
"JJ, please tell me you did not bring a gun here," Kie practically begged. "JJ, there are kids!"
You focused your attention straight ahead of you as the guys continued to argue; Pope simply telling Kie that it might go down to her line of questioning, her brown eyes darting back and forth between you all. You refused to meet her eyes, however, and were glad when the large screen ahead of you suddenly lit up. "Oh, look," you exclaimed, laughing nervously. "The movie's starting."
And it was left at that - JJ whispering deny, deny, deny to Pope once more before you all turned your attention to the screen, trying to block out the intruding thoughts of having the knowledge that the gang of Kooks were staring you down, awaiting your next move like a predator would its pray.
All was going fine - the movie was good, everyone's attention on the black and white screen. You tried not to think about Rafe and Topper, or the gold or your dad, and definitely not the feel of JJ's legs either side of you, trapping you into his hold. You let yourself believe that everything would be okay, and then Pope had revealed he needed a piss, and everything had gone to shit.
JJ had accompanied him, and the two had set off behind the screen, hidden away from Rafe's watchful eyes. They hadn't done a good enough job to be discreet though, and you immediately took notice of Rafe, Topper and Kelce making their way towards the opposite side of the screen. You swore, catching Kie's attention as she questioned, "What's wrong? Are you okay?"
"Looks like that piss break just got a lot more complicated," you said, and realisation dawned on her face. It didn't take the pair of you long to locate the guys, all in various forms of fighting, as you and Kie screamed at them to stop. You grabbed Rafe's arm mid-swing, his fist raised and ready to send a hit to JJ's face from where Kelce had hold of him. "Stop it, you dick!"
You let out a scream as you were sent flying back from his shove, Rafe's blue eyes wild and crazed as he glared down at you. "Stay out of this, Grubbs!" He barked, and without a moments hesitation sent a fist hurling towards JJ's cheek.
Kiara had jumped on Topper's back from the small distance away from you, and you took a moment to ready yourself before hurtling towards Rafe from your crouched position, tackling him to the ground from his knees, effectively stopping his blows. He seemed stunned for a second, staring dazed up at you before he promptly threw you off of him, shoving you to the ground without a care. "Don't fucking touch me," he growled down at you, and you groaned slightly as the wind was knocked from you.
You heard JJ from somewhere above you, shouting insults at Rafe and repeating your name over and over. You lifted yourself from the ground just as Topper puts Pope in a headlock, his tight grip causing the dark skinned boys breath to leave him in choked gasps. You shoved at Rafe's back once more, sending him stumbling forward before he whipped around, hand reaching out and grabbing you by the face, tugging you so you stood nose-to-nose with him.
"I said," he ground out darkly, eyes boring into yours. "Don't fucking touch me."
You were beginning to fear what would come next before a sudden glow caught your eye from the side, the movie screen lighting up in harsh flames. Rafe dropped you, your hands moving to rub over the imprint he'd left, as you looked towards where Kie stood, JJ lighter in hand. Screams of terror echoed from the other side, as people began to flee, and it didn't take long for the three Kooks on your side to follow, sprinting quickly from the scene. Fucking cowards, you thought.
JJ's hands were on you before you could even blink, eyes earnest and worried as they looked over you, your cheeks red from the earlier grip Rafe had on you. "You good?" He asked you, slightly out of breath. You nodded, repeating the question to him. He smiled lightly. "Yeah, yeah. I'm good."
The night had ended promptly there, Kie dropping you off at your respected houses. You'd bid them all a good night, and as quietly as possible made your way into your home, not wanting your mother to see the marks imprinted on your face from Rafe's fingers. Luckily, she'd already been in bed, and it didn't take long for you to crawl into yours, thoughts of the day and a certain blonde running through your mind.
The next morning you'd met the gang (save for John B, who was still seemingly missing) at the Heyward's store; your morning had been spent desperately trying to hide the red marks that Rafe's fingers had left from your mom before she could notice and ground you in your room for the rest of your life. It had a been a success for the most part, and she asked no questions as you left the house, though you took note of her uncertain expression as you bid your goodbyes.
"Have you heard from John B?" You asked Kiara who was working closest to you. You had realised the brunette boy was missing from the group upon your arrival, and you couldn't help the worries in your mind at where he could be or what could have happened to him.
"No, nothing. Have you?" She returned the question, brown eyes meeting yours as you shook your head no, a short sigh falling from her lips. "Neither have the guys. What're you thinking?" Kiara eyed you, gaze suddenly sullen. "Do you think something's happened?"
"I don't know, Kie," you told her because honestly, you didn't. John B had a target on his back, that much was for sure. Son of Big John, once owner of the proclaimed death compass. Your mind thought back to the two men that had raised your home, and chased the guys on more than one occasion, and you couldn't help but think the worst. "I'm sure he's fine, though."
Kiara nodded, though she looked anything but sure. "Yeah, you're probably right." The pair of you continued on with your respected work, JJ's and Pope's voice trailing from somewhere in the store as they talked. "You're working Midsummers, right?"
You groaned, nodding. Kiara laughed at your sour expression. "Oh yeah, second year running. To be honest, I'm surprised they let me work it after last year, my customer service must be better than my right hand hook," you joked, chuckle escaping your lips as you thought back to the Midsummer's party the year before. Your dad had gotten you the gig, because he was a weasel like that - always talking people into getting what he wanted, and what he wanted was the gas bill to be paid, and his face just didn't fit the portfolio to be serving Kook's their drinks at their fancy party, and so it had left left to you to do just that.
The night had ended with Dean Kipp on his ass after his hand had fallen on your ass, and you'd been let off with a warning as the guy clutched his bloody nose and called you everything ranging from psycho bitch to slutty pogue. Your surprise was immense when you were offered a job again this year, and a large amount of the reason you'd said yes was just so you could see the look on his face when he saw you.
"He totally deserved that," Kiara remarked, grinning. You smiled back, the pair of you sharing a laugh as you returned to your work.
For a second, you let your worries wash away as you were pulled into a conversation with the gang, your spirts high for the first time in a while. You were happy, you realised. What had started off as being the worst period of your life was slowly turning into the best, the gang and treasure hunt a blessing in disguise. The four of you shared laughs and joked back and forth as you worked, and you found yourself to be perfectly content.
All that came crashing down when Pope's father entered the shop, police officer trailing behind him. "Hey, Pope! There's someone here to see you."
You stopped dead-on, the rest of the gang halting in their movements as you all stared towards the officer you recognised as Shoupe. "Evening, officer." Pope greeted, gulping.
"I have an arrear warrant for felony destruction of property," Deputy Shoupe approached your group, handing the said warrant to Pope's dad. From beside you, JJ tensed, and when you turned to look at him, his blue eyes glanced down at you, freshly beaten face pulled into an anxious grimace as his jaw clenched. Shoupe had gotten remarkably closer, hands reaching for the handcuffs placed on his belt. "Hands where I can see 'em."
Pope glanced desperately towards JJ, who shook his head quickly, his words, though unspoken, clear as day. Deny, deny, deny. But denying wasn't going to get Pope out of handcuffs, you decided as you stepped forward, tone pleading as you demanded, "Stop, you can't just do this!"
"Out of my way please, Miss Grubbs," Shoupe dismissed you, sounding almost bored as he shoved past you, beginning to handcuff Pope who can do nothing but allow it to happen, his anxious eyes focusing on one spot as reality began to sink in.
"What did he do, Shoupe?" Mr. Heyward questioned in disbelief, watching as his son was getting arrested in front of his very eyes.
"Take a look at the warrant," the cop said simply as he begun to tug Pope out of the store.
It was chaos. Everyone was shouting, demanding answers and hurling insults. JJ is screaming something about somebody paying him, Kiara is in your ear asking what the hell was going on, Mr. Heyward is hurtling questions towards both his son and Shoupe. Passbyers stared at the scene, whispering to each other as they walked by or stopped to watch. Everything blurred together, and you could do nothing but watch the scene unfold in front of you.
Those fucking assholes, you thought. Topper Thorton came to mind, tan skin and bleached ends, million dollar smile and designer clothes. You remembered his wild gaze as he held Pope in a headlock the night before, close to almost killing him. And yet he was off somewhere doing god knows what, probably shopping for a new boat to replace the one he'd lost, not that he probably cared all that much about it in the first place. Rafe Cameron's eyes entered your mind next, and you felt a shudder run through you as you remembered them boring into yours as he held your face frighteningly tight and close to his own.
JJ's voice was suddenly breaking through your stream of thoughts - "It wasn't him!" He was calling out, eyes directed on Shoupe who paused and turned toward him, Pope's face disbelieving from behind him. "It was me."
It sunk in then what JJ was trying to do, and you whirled around from his left, quickly shaking your head as you muttered, "JJ." He ignored you however, and stepped forward towards where the officer was standing, Pope still in his arms.
"He tried to talk me out of it," JJ continued. "But I was mad because he had just been beaten up, I was sick of those assholes from Figure Eight that I lost my shit." He was stood directly in front of Shoupe, almost boot-to-boot. You couldn't see his face from where you were, and you were almost thankful for the fact as you heard him direct his words to Pope, "I can't let you take the fall for what I did. You've got too much to lose."
"JJ, what are you doing?" Pope demanded. His face was confused, just as much in shock as the rest of you. For a second, his eyes leave JJ's and land on yours, a shaky breath leaving your lips as his eyes were practically pleading.
"I'm telling the truth, for once in my goddamn life, I'm gonna tell the truth," JJ announced loudly. "I took his old man's boat, too."
"What the hell?" Mr. Heyward questioned, though nobody paid him any mind. Your gaze was too focused on the unfolding scene of JJ Maybank taking the fall for something he most definitely do, and you could do nothing but watch it happen.
Your heart finally shattered when JJ's last words entered your ears, "He's a good kid. You know where I'm from."
He only looked back once as he was put into the handcuffs that previously held Pope, and that wasn't until he was shoved in the back of the police car and the door was slammed behind him. You walked closer towards it, hand on Pope's back as he watched his best friend get arrested for something he'd done, and you both knew it. When JJ glanced up and out of the window, bruised face clear behind the glass, his sea blue eyes caught yours and then he smiled.
The fucker.
You could only watch helplessly as the police car was driven away and out of sight, Pope throwing his cap down in a fit of anger as he stormed off, his dad calling after him, Kie landing to your right. The dark haired girl wrapped an arm around your shoulders, tugging you to her side gently.
"JJ'll be alright," she told you, voice confident though her face read anything but as she glanced in the direction the car had been driven off. "He always is."
But what, a voice in the back in your head nagged at you, if this time he wasn't?
And then it dawned on you: you actually really, generally, sincerely and whole-heartedly cared about JJ Maybank.
(And the thought scared you more than you would ever like to admit.)
Girls Trip {Erik fic}
Warnings: 18+, smut.
{reader goes on a cruise with her girls during winter break post-breakup & meets Erik when she needs him most. The intro to a series. I hope that y'all enjoy this long ass intro x}
“Told you you'd like it! We know what you need.” your friend Lynelle says as you and your other 2 best friends step into the lobby of the ship.
Your original plan was to stay home and catch up on much needed sleep and netflix binge watching during Winter Break but Khadijah, Tasha , and Lynelle (Lennie)  had other plans.
They could never get on the same page to go on a proper vacation but the one time you wanted to be left alone they've decided to get it together.
2 plane rides and now you're here on a cruise on the way to 'paradise'.
The last few weeks went by in a blur while you were buying bikinis, trying to contain your emotions, and leaving behind your frozen over city for Bali.
You'd be lying if you said that you weren't a little excited to be leaving behind a terrible end to a 4 year relationship.
“Girl I just paid 12 dollars for Netflix this month. I planned on staying home and re-watching The Get Down. I need to at them and ask them when they're gonna add Crooklyn." You say as your phone begins to go off.
"Uh-uh, just cause your man had community dick don't mean you gotta feel like you did something wrong. You are the sweetest and most caring person I know and gave everything you had for that man. You are a strong beautiful talented black woman. You run your own business and don't need his ass for nothing. And if I were into girls I would've been shot my shot back in the 7th grade. Now, we gon' get tipsy, dance the night away in 23$ dollar heels, and find a fine ass beard to rid-"
You quickly cut off your best friend by answering your mother's call. You held onto Khadi's hand to let her know that her support means everything to you.
"Hey Mama. Yes I made it safe and sound." You say into the phone as you shake your head and laugh at your girls.
"HEY MA " Khadi says waving as she smiles at the woman on the other side of the phone she's known for over half her life.
"Hello Khadijah, are you behaving yourself ?" She asks as Khadi shakes her head with her tongue sticking out.
"MY GIRL." Your mother says as they both laugh and point at each other through the screen.
"I'll talk to you later, enjoy yourself baby. Sometimes a little fun and laughter is the cure for heartache. Love you, be safe." She says before ending the video call.
"Alright , we all meeting up for the foam pool party after the tour right? Cause I need to shower and stuff first." You say as everybody agrees
An hour or two later you were standing in front of the hotel mirror giving yourself a pep talk in your new bikini. You eyed your reflection as you tell yourself that somebody son is gonna love on your fupa, and the 3 years wasted with Derrick isn't going to matter anymore.
Tumblr media
"Knees. Knees. Come on knees." Khadijah yells as Lennie and Tasha  drop it low and make it clap as a chorus of 'ayyeeee' erupts in the elevator.
You make your way down to the lobby with the girls after throwing back a few shots in Lennie's room. You past by a group of other girls in the elevator and they were blasting Cash Shit from their phone.
"Link up with us later." Paris says from the other group before moving over to the party already happening.
Tumblr media
The drinks are flowing through your system and Tasha is filming you for the gram as you sing along to the music. You accidentally trip backwards onto a man behind you before immediately apologizing and giggling.
"You good mama." He says as he catches you with one hand and the other still holding his drink. Without missing a beat he twirls you to the beat so that you can play it off.
"What's the nigga name?" He asks as he takes another sip of his drink and tries to act like he ain't see you watching the suds slide down his scarred and chiseled chest to his happy trail.
"Excuse me?" You ask confused as he flashes his gold fanged grill and cock his head towards the phone in Tasha's hand as she gives you a quiet  'oooh shit okay'.
"The one you tryna prove a point to. Only name that matters now though is Erik." He says as he grinds against you and move your braids to your other shoulder.
"Alright Erik, lemme see if you can keep up then." You tease him as you begin to whine on him and ride the beat as he keeps up behind you. You realize you have an audience now with his boys glancing over at you and your girls watching him.
His hand holds you in place before he asks if it's alright if he kissed you. You nod before you know it his soft ass lips are on yours. He pulls at your bottom lip slightly while you continue to whine on him.
"Thank you for the dance." You say before you place one final kiss to his lips as the song ends.
You walk over to Tasha before grabbing her hand and leaving to find Lennie and Khadijah
You knew he was still standing there watching you walk away you turned to give him a look over your shoulder with a raised brow.
Tumblr media
"Stop watching my booty" you mouth at him jokingly
"YOU CAN'T EVEN BLAME ME. ITS FAT AS FUCK." He yells back to you over the music.
After an hour of dancing and having a good time with friends you only checked your phone once to find 3 messages from Derrick begging you to call him then two talking about how disappointed he was with you.
You stepped out onto the upper deck to tell him to stop calling you and ruining your good time.
"I can do what I want. I'm fucking grown. All you ever did was sit at home on your ass and criticize me for every damn thing I did. I made sure you were happy when I wasn't even okay… And fucking my cousin was your way of showing me you loved me huh? Don't call me no more and stop calling my mama asking her about me too. " You yell into the phone before hanging up.
You stand there staring out at the ocean for a moment. Trying to breathe deeply and ground yourself so that you don't cry.
"You good?" You hear a voice call from behind you.
"What, you following me now?" You ask Erik as he pulls up one of the lounge chairs to sit next to you and light his blunt.
"Nah, not at all. I came out here to smoke and chill. All that going on in there really ain't my scene. My boys got me to come here. They got white boys in there doing backflips off the balcony and shit. I probably would've still been at work right now." He say as he exhales and leans back against the lounge chair.
You laugh softly before shaking your head.
"That's how I ended up here. I was planning on spending Christmas and The New Year at home with my family. But my friends had this surprise for me to ring in the new year in Bali. And now here I am. I'd still rather be watching Godfather of Harlem. I gotta catch up." You say sitting next to him in the lounge chair. He instinctively wraps his arm around you letting you lay your head on his shoulder.
Granted, it probably seemed weird as hell to be cuddling with somebody you just met and barely knew but to both of you it just felt right in the moment.
"Godfather of Harlem ? That show is my shit. It's slept on forreal… If you ever in Oakland you should stop by sometime. I run a museum based on preserving black art and culture." He scrolls on his phone until he finds some of the pieces and shows it to you. But the main thing that stood out was Stevens Black Art & History: for the culture.
"Erik Stevens?" You gasp and sit up to get a good look at him
"Yeah , why you looking like that? What's up?" He questions
"Oh my fucking God. We was best friends back in the day. It's me, look, minus the bifocals, braces, and that James Brown bob my mama gave me damn near every day." You say and he stares at you in awe for a second.
"Damn it's really you." You says quietly as he runs his thumb over your cheek imagining you the way you looked in 5th grade.
You loved Erik growing up and spent almost all of your time together but after his father died you didn't get to say goodbye. He was taken into the system and after that you heard that he was in the military doing who knows what. You tried to find him but after a while it was no use. You couldn't believe how different he looked now. He looked tired down by the woes of life but still as beautiful as the day you met him.
" 'Member this?" You ask as you fish your out of the pocket of your cover-up and start playing Best Friend by 50 Cent.
You watched as he looked up at you standing up to dance. You pull him up too as he puts out the blunt while laughing and stepping with you.
"If I was your best friend, I want you 'round all the time. Can I be your best friend, if you promise you'll be mine?" You sing to him as he twirls you around
"First we get the talkin, then we get the touchin. If we get pass the phone games we'll be fuckin. I kiss like the french therefore my tongue in your ear. Do it like the dogs do it girl and pull on your hair. For me a different scenery just mean a different position. In the tub or on the sink I improvise now listen. In the chopper or on the jet join the mile high club. I'm no fool I know money can't buy me love. But I'm a different type of nigga that make sure that you know. Instead of a rose, there's a hundred dozen of those. See I see somethin special when I look in your eyes. With your legs way back I see this pussy is mine. If you ain't sure when I'm talkin I don't tell you no lies. But there's things that you say that have me wonderin why. When I don't say what I'm thinkin it don't mean that I'm shy. Got on that shit you picked out for me that's why I'm so fly." He raps effortlessly while kissing softly on your neck and all those memories start flashing back to you as you sway with him.
"Damn you still remember all the lyrics to our song." You say to him as you look over to see your girls and some of his friends.
"You out here ?  Bitch! I thought I was gonna have to do an interview on First 48 for yo ass. I was gon' drop a raft over to come find you. You know I can't swim and I don't got my floaties with me." Khadi says as she walks in with Tasha and Lennie .
"I'm sorry I came out here for fresh air and then ended up literally finding my fuckin childhood best friend. Before the baddest bitches on the planet came to be. There was THEE duo. Everybody meet Erik."
After everyone got to know each other. Y'all brought the party to the secluded little upper deck with the perfect view of the ocean. You had drinks , music, and good company almost enough to forget about the whole situation back home.
"Girl you know I love you but my feet hurt and Sebastian said he gon' rub em" referring to the man she currently had her arms around.
"Alright , we'll meet up in the morning for breakfast" you tell them before giving them kisses goodbye and heading out with everybody.
Tasha and Lynelle were currently singing to each other and sharing cute kisses off to the side. You couldn't help but to smile and think of how true love must feel. To love and be fully loved back like that.
You were standing in front of your opened room door when you realized that his room is across from yours but he had no plans of sleeping in it.
"Uh-uh. Who said you were invited in?" You ask Erik with your index finger on his chest.
Tumblr media
"I thought you said you wanted to watch Netflix? We can order room service and everything. Whatever you want" he says to you licking his lips and closing the gap between the two of you.
"I want to forget. I want to have fun. I want to feel loved and appreciated for once. That would be nice." You say quietly as he takes his hand in yours. Pressing small kisses to each of your knuckles.
He hesitates for a moment before leaning in to kiss you slowly. He held your face in his hands as he continued to back you into the room kicking it closed with his foot.
 "I'm glad that we found each other. After all of this time. " You say to him in between kisses
"Believe it or not I kept that picture of us. The one your mama took of us at the zoo next to the monkeys. I took it with me on tour everywhere. Right next to my mama's picture in my wallet. I never lost a battle. I made it home in one piece. Shits wild." He said zoning out for a moment like he was going somewhere else.
"Heyyy." You call softly. You move his hands from your waist
" I've got you." You whisper to him before leading him to your bed and laying him back.
You wrap your arms around him almost cuddling him as you lay your head on his chest while listening to his heartbeat and sitting on his lap.
You place a soft kiss to his lips before moving away from the bed to change, settling on a large shirt and nothing else.
Erik followed suit and just stripped to his boxer briefs before you come back to the bed carrying soda , your laptop, and snacks.
"And before you ask. Yes, I packed my laptop because work never stops, and yes I packed snacks because I can't find Takis out here." You say chuckling softly while he shakes his head laughing softly.
You both settle into a comfortable position before loading up the movie. You settled on Nappily Ever After but it wasn't long before he was softly kissing on your neck with his hand under your shirt.
"Gonna eat it from the back. That's cool with you" he mumble into your ear.
If that's cool with me? BIH, I'm trying to let you give me twins. Triplets even. Play it cool. Play it cool . You thought to yourself before saying a silent apology to your girl Sanaa Lathan as you quickly moved the laptop to the bedside table.
"Damn she pretty." He says before kissing each cheek and gripping the back of your thighs. You knew what was coming next as your hands found the headboard and arched your back.
You can feel his tongue begin to explore the back of your thighs to your folds as he bends you forward.
You hiss softly as his hand began to roam. You looked back at him as his fingers enter you. He begins to slowly and deeply work you open for him. You knew that you were dripping at this point and couldn't contain how loud you're being.
You can hear him let out a groan as he gets his first taste. Before you know it he's devouring you like you're his favourite meal and is completely in his element. His hands are massaging over your cheeks while he suckles your clit and then slides his tongue in. You begin to work your hips down onto it as he's on his knees behind you. His fingers massaging skillfully over your clit.
"That's how you want it? It's all for you." You egg him on shakily as you reach back to grab at his dreads knowing that you're nearing your orgasm. You thought you were seeing stars but the audacity of this man bringing his hand down hard across your left then right cheek and then the pom-pom itself, did it.
Your toes curled and your head was tilted back as you continued to ride his face and the orgasmic wave crashed over you so hard it took your breath with it.
You called out his name speaking in all types of broken Xhosa as he begin to lap you up and savour your taste.
When you stopped shaking he sat back on the bed, proud of himself as he licked his lips.
You turned to face him and he wasted no time continuing to massage you.
But what you hadn't realized during changing you accidentally dialed Derrick. Who's now on the other end, yelling into the phone
{to be continued! I hope that it was alright!}
45. Part 4
Tumblr media
I am wondering where Robyn is, the party is in full swing and Robyn is not here. Terry said she is getting ready still but can she just come down now, seeing Wade raise his glass to me “you made it then, I know it was last minute but you did say you couldn’t come but here you are” Wade got his hand out to me, shaking his hand “I was just testing to see how much you cared and you text me back just saying ok, and my wife is here” Wade moved to the side “nice to see you again, looking beautiful as ever” holding her hand as I stepped forward to press kisses to her cheek “pleasure is all mines, your home is beautiful, I was saying to Wade from outside looking in it looks not so grande but inside, it’s magnificent, I am in awe and then Wade told me how much you paid, wow. It was worth every amount” I smiled at her “thank you so much, I can’t thank Wade enough. Every time I call him, even in the middle of the night he picks up, he makes sure I am ok. You must hate me at times” I laughed “well, it’s like having a second son, I said it to Wade. I said Maurice is like family to us, Wade adores you” Wade pulled a face “stop it, you talk too much woman” laughing at Wade “Maurice” looking to the side of me, Terry held out Reign to me “she will be going to bed soon” oh yeah, holding my drink to Wade “I hold drinks now” he said “Mi Amor, is it your bed time soon. Don’t you look pretty in your dress, daddy bought you this from Burberry, especially for you my daughter” pressing a kiss to her head as I held her close “I love you so so much” Reign looks so confused, I think there is many people here but she has not cried “Terry this is my lawyer and best friend Wade, and his wife Laura” I pointed at them “this is my future mother in law, soon to be. You know how it is” I chuckled “nice to meet you Terry, you looks so much like your daughter, so beautiful” Wade ain’t wrong, Terry is ever so beautiful. Looking at Reign as she rubbed her eyes “you tired, aww” feeling a hand on my shoulder “if it isn’t the man himself” looking behind me “Shawn Carter” turning around, dapping him “I just took a tour around your home, it’s amazing” I chuckled “appreciate it and Mrs Knowles” holding her hand, Reign yelped out but I proceeded to press a kiss to the side of her cheek “Mrs Carter now, come on Maurice” Jay said.
I did think Reign would cry with Jay but she didn’t, she just wanted to attack his gold chain “I told you I am good with kids, thank the lord you don’t look like him” Jay said pointing at me “you just a hater” I chuckled “tell your dad he is just being hater” Reign is legit ok with Jay, like this girl does not know this man at all but is fine to play with his gold chain. The room become a little quiet of chatter, it was odd to hear such a thing. Looking around the room “your lady is here” Jay said, looking around me and then how can I miss her “wow” I breathed out, moving my head to the side a little because someone got in my way. She was complaining about not finding a dress but she has, I am in awe. I can tell, she looks so nervous. Her nervous laugh, I can’t stop staring at her. The dress looks heavy for her but she has made people go quiet, they are looking at her. Let me go to her “you will be ok with Reign, I will just go and see Robyn” I asked Jay and he nodded his head, making my way to her. Adam is fussing around her, I don’t care for Leon I am in awe with what I see, she looks so beautiful. I feel emotional, like my bride has just arrived “hey” I breathed out, I just feel breathless “hey baby, this ballgown is a lot, don’t you think?” her warm smile, oh I just love this woman so much “no” shaking my head “it’s perfect, you look beautiful Robyn. You got everyone here looking I am lucky to have you” I smiled looking at her “ballgown” I said “it’s a ballgown?” looking up at Robyn “yes it is, thank you” Robyn said smiling wide at me “you are looking at Robyn like you just seen your bride” Adam said “I have” I would marry her now “who can perform an official marry ceremony to this woman!? I need someone official” Robyn laughed “stop it, causing a scene” Robyn shuffled over to me “don’t step on my gown” leaning over to her “and peck my lips, my lipstick” she is so demanding, pecking her lips “I love you” Robyn said “I love you more” she used her thumb to wipe my lips.
Holding Robyn’ hand to bring her to Jay, watching to not step on her dress. To see people that I know looking at Robyn, not in a hateful way just in awe and I love to see it “did she cry at all?” I asked, she is really attacking this man’s hair “I am sorry” I said to him “it’s ok, she is so cheeky. I find it cute; we friend now aren’t we? My daughter will love her so much, won’t she” Reign actually does like Jay, look at my daughter “so this is your new business partner, Robyn. Robyn. Come say hi to Shawn, I mean I differ from Shawn to Jay, you can call him what you like” looking at Robyn “my business partner now? What happened to you, nice to meet you Robyn. So you are the one to come too?” Robyn is shy, I can tell on her face “hi, it’s amazing to meet you Shawn. Like wow, I am like shaking your hand” Robyn is still so new to this “yes you, if we going to be business partners I can’t have this now” Robyn laughed nervously “sorry, I am a surgeon but Maurice wants me to erm, run the clubs. So yeah” she needs to not be so nervous “wow, surgeon. That is amazing, this is my wife” Robyn’ eyes widened “I remember you; I took a picture with you at his birthday. You look so beautiful” Robyn is fangirling right now, I can tell “this is my new daughter” Jay joked “hey, hey. I want her back now” opening my arms “come to papa, come on” Reign did come to me “she is a good girl, I like she don’t cry” checking over at Robyn, she is speaking to Beyoncé without fainting “she knows rich, she senses that you got money. Ain’t it?” Shawn laughed “we need to do a little family thing, together. My kids will love Reign, she is adorable” Shawn touched her cheek, Reign turned her head and started grabbing my neck “she is getting grumpy now” looking down at her “hey, grumpy. My beautiful” lifting her up a little so she can rest her head on my shoulder.
My daughter is turning out to be grumpy now “look who’s here, momma. Doesn’t she look beautiful” Reign lifted her head up “what is it? What you see” I asked, I then pointed at Robyn “you see mommy” Beyoncé and Robyn have been talking for a while now “Robyn! Hey!” I spat, Robyn looked over at me “Reign wants to see” Robyn cooed out “look at her little face” Beyoncé said, Robyn made her way over to us “aww mommy is here” Reign straight away went to Robyn, she wanted her “awwww my beautiful baby, you missed me” both of my ladies looking beautiful as ever, I am so very proud of them both “come on, let’s take a picture” I said “Shawn, can you take it for me?” holding my phone out to him “sure, get together. Let the billionaires rise together” Shawn said, I laughed walking around Robyn “Robyn and Bey in the middle, Maurice at the side of Bey and Jay next to Robyn. That will be perfect” Shawn thinks he is a photographer “nigga you ain’t no photographer” I said laughing “get my best side, we both Shawn’ now. You gotta do good” I placed my arms behind me, I mean it’s Beyoncé, we family friends I still wouldn’t put my arm around her. Looking over at Jay and he did the same as me “look here then” looking at Shawn smiling, I am very happy right now “done” he held my phone out to me, taking my phone from him “thanks bro, we need to catch up though. Quick, how did it go?” I asked while looking down at the picture, this picture looks so rich “we on a break, she uhm didn’t take well at all. I was hoping she was here?” shaking my head “she is also angry with, we will catch up” tapping on IG, I mean of course I am going to post this picture. Shawn did actually do a great job with this, I am impressed. Captioning the picture ‘When the Carter and Davenport get together, congratulations @R0bynWillis on being Shawn Carter’ new business partner. 40/40 club near your city soon’ pressing send on the picture, let them hate even more.
“I didn’t know Tiffany is here?” Robyn grabbed my hand saying in my ear “what do you want me to do? My family wanted to come, my dad, you know” Robyn is not happy at all “you know what, you said the rich not the poor” Robyn spat, look at her Robyn being really angry at this “cuz” Kellen is still with the little rat then “hey” I said, Tiffany just stared at Robyn “if you don’t respect my girl in our home then you can go” I straight up said, I don’t give a fuck “hi” she strained out “how are you angry at Robyn huh? Kellen” looking at him “working on it” he said “you sure that child is even yours Maurice, it’s funny how it looks awfully more like Robyn then you. Not a single feature of you” Tiffany is funny “if Beyonce didn’t invite me to her home this weekend I would lay your ass out on this floor, but I have class, I have a name for myself Tiffany and trust me. The real Reign to the company is his, that cubic zirconia child you had will never see an ounce of royalty, not with you around” Tiffany eyes bulged out “Jay!” I waved my bodyguard over “escort this one out, Kellen you can stay but she goes” Jay nodded his head “listen here, I meant what I said so yeah. Come” I grabbed Robyn’ hand, my girl is on fire. Walking away from them “cubic zirconia?” I said laughing as I shook my head, she is funny “hi dear” seeing my auntie and uncle, this is weird to see my dad’ youngest brother out and about and for her to reach to Robyn “uhm Robyn, this is my auntie. She is married to my dad’ brother, he is the youngest. Montell, well uncle Montell. This is Robyn” Robyn looks shocked that I actually introduced her to him “wow, you look just like Marquis” my uncle shook Robyn’ hand “I am much more quiet then him, and I don’t have a walking stick” he joked, I never had issues with him but he’s never stuck up for me but least he didn’t end up like Malik. None of my dad’ brothers did, they was well mannered but then again my grandfather was a strict man.
53. Veronica Lodge x Fem!Reader
(gif credit: velmadinklev & phebobuffay)
Summary: You meet Veronica at school. She’s rather intrigued by you because she can’t quite pin you down.
Note: If you want, listen to Paul Anka’s put your head on my shoulder, and you are my destiny. It’ll make the imagine ten times better ;)
You’d heard of the mysterious and beautiful Veronica Lodge from word of mouth going around town. Everyone knew what her father had done and why they were moving back to Riverdale but you weren’t interested much in gossip.
Funnily enough you first met Veronica while Betty was giving her the welcoming committee tour. Betty was giving Veronica the full history of every building on campus. Veronica, as expected, looked bored out of her mind.
You walked up to them. “Hey Betty,” you said as you hugged her.
Betty hugged you back. “Hey (y/n), it’s good to see you. How was your summer?”
You shrugged as you pulled away from her. “It was alright, I mean I’m kind of disappointed we didn’t get to build more houses and schools for the communities but-”
“You built houses?” Veronica interjected.
You turned to her, smiling. “Veronica Lodge I presume?” You stretched out your hand.
She shook it. “Yes.”
Betty turned to Veronica. “(y/n) spent the whole summer building schools and houses for communities in Ecuador.”
Veronica’s brows shot up. “Wow, so you’re like Mother Theresa?”
You laughed. “No not really, it’s part of my youth advocacy group. We always need more members if you’re interested.”
Veronica smiled politely. “I don’t really do jungles sorry.”
You sighed. “That’s a shame, I’m sure if anyone could pull of the jungle look it’d be you.”
Veronica and Betty laughed. You touched Betty’s arm. “Well I should get to Physics. Bye Betty,” you said and turned to Veronica, “It was nice meeting you Veronica.”
Veronica nodded. “Pleasure was mine.”
You walked off to class. Veronica leaned in close to Betty. “Okay so you have to tell me everything about the hottie with a heart of gold.”
Betty furrowed her brows. “(y/n)?”
Veronica sighed. “Duh, so what’s her deal, is she into girls?”
A knowing look flashed across Betty’s features, she understood. “Yes, she is very much into girls. Are you interested in (y/n)?”
Veronica leaned away and started to walk down the hall. “I don’t know…I just got here but (y/n) certainly is cute.”
Betty, giddy about the possibility of setting you two up, clapped her hands. “Yay! Okay we totally have to get you two to hang out.”
Veronica sighed. “Betty I think I can ask a girl out on my own.”
Betty pouted. “Come on Veronica, it’ll be fun.”
Veronica stared at Betty, finally giving in to her puppy dog eyes. “Fine!”
-
Veronica, Betty, and Archie arrived at the dance. Betty looked around the room. Archie furrowed his brows. “Are you looking for someone?”
Betty nodded. “Yes, (y/n).”
Archie shook his head softly. “But (y/n) hates school dances.”
Betty turned to Veronica and Archie. “Tonight she has one really good reason for coming out.”
Veronica turned to Archie. “It’s me.”
Archie smiled. “I hope you two know what you’re doing.”
Betty playfully hit Archie’s arm. “Of course I do! Now go see if you can find (y/n).”
Archie nodded and went off in search for you but you were nowhere to be found. Betty sighed. “Sorry Veronica, I really thought she’d come.”
Veronica, trying not to let Betty see that she was a tad disappointed, put a hand on Betty’s back. “It’s okay, I’ll just see her at school.” Veronica took Betty’s hand. “Dance with me?”
Betty nodded. “Of course.”
They walked to the dance floor and Veronica put her hands on Betty’s hips. Betty wrapped her arms around Veronica’s neck. She sighed. “I’m really sorry Veronica. I was sure I’d gotten (y/n) to come.”
Veronica shook her head softly. “It’s fine Betty, really.”
Betty perked up as she saw who came walking up behind Veronica. Veronica was about to turn around when you stepped up to them. “Mind if I cut in?” You asked.
Betty parted from Veronica. “Of course!” She nudged Veronica towards you. Veronica blushed.
You smiled. “May I have this dance Miss Lodge?”
Veronica nodded and wrapped her arms around you neck. You placed your hands on her hips and pulled her close to you. Betty cleared her throat and you both turned to her.
“Have fun,” she said cheerfully then walked away to find Archie.
You turned your attention back on Veronica. She was staring at you. “I didn’t think you’d come.”
You shrugged. “Dances aren’t really my scene.”
Veronica smiled. “Oh yeah? What is your scene (y/n)?”
“I like walking,” you replied.
Veronica furrowed her brows. “Walking?”
You smiled. “Yeah, I like to take long walks. I like to go out at night especially. I know it’s dangerous but the sky looks so beautiful at night, and it’s so quiet.”
Veronica was staring at you again, her edges of her mouth slightly curved upwards. “You really are something else (y/n).”
You spun Veronica around and came close to her ear. “Walk with me tonight,” you whispered in her ear.
A chill ran up Veronica’s spine. “Sounds dangerous.”
You smiled and spun her back around. You pulled her close to you. “I get the feeling you like a little danger.” A devilish smile spread across your face.
Veronica ate it up. She let out a breath and shrugged. “What the heck, sure. What time?
“After the dance if you’re not busy.”
Veronica nodded. “I think I can pencil you in.”
You pulled away from Veronica. “I have to leave.”
Veronica frowned. “But things were just getting fun.”
You kissed her cheek. “I’ll see you tonight Veronica Lodge.”
She smiled. “See you tonight (y/n).”
-
Betty couldn’t stop giggling. “Veronica and (y/n) sitting in a tree..”
Veronica playfully shoved Betty. “Stop.”
Betty turned and saw you leaning against your car. She nudged Veronica. Veronica followed Betty’s gaze. When she saw you giant smile spread across her face and her stomach filled with butterflies. She turned back to Betty. “See you in school?”
Betty nodded. “I expect all the juicy details Ronnie.” Then she waved to you and walked off to find her ride home.
Veronica walked up to you. “I thought you said we were walking?”
You pushed off the car and walked to her. “We are but we gotta take a quick drive first, if that’s okay?”
Veronica nodded. You opened the passenger door for her and closed it gently when she climbed inside. You walked to the other side and got in. Veronica put on her seat belt and you started the car. You pulled away and began to drive. You gave Veronica your phone. “You can be the dj tonight.”
She took the phone. “Let’s see what you got.” She scrolled through the music library until she found one she liked.
You watched the road but out of the corner of you eye you saw Veronica staring at you as the music started.
Put your head on my shoulder Hold me in your arms, baby Squeeze me oh so tight Show me that you love me too, Paul Anka’s voice rang out throughout the car.
You smiled. “Interesting choice of song Miss Lodge.”
Veronica let her head rest against the seat. “So where exactly are we going?”
“Well, Riverdale is an old town. Sometimes it feels like we’re stuck in time ya know?”
Veronica nodded. “Yeah I got that when my mom told me there was something called a chok’lit shoppe.”
You both laughed.
“Riverdale has many quaint eccentricities but one of my favorite places in Lover’s Point.”
Veronica sat up. “Shut up,” she said and turned to you. “Is that a real thing? I always thought that was reserved for those cheesy 60s films.”
You nodded. “It’s real, not many people know of it. It kind of fell out of favor when queer kids started using it. Then police started raiding it like crazy and well they found new places to be young.”
Veronica’s smile faded. “That’s kinda sad.”
You stopped at a red light. You turned to Veronica. “It is but it’s having a bit of a renaissance.”
Veronica tilted her head to the side. “Led by you?”
You smiled and shook your head softly. The light turned green and so your focus went back to the road.
Put your lips next to mine, dear Won’t you kiss me once, baby Just a kiss goodnight, maybe You and I will fall in love (You and I will fall in love)
Veronica let her head rest against the cool window. She watched the trees go by. Then she turned to look at you. The streetlights softly illuminated your face. She smiled as she thought about how beautiful you were. “A good heart with a dangerous streak and a killer smile..(y/n) you truly are a bag full of surprises,” Veronica whispered to herself.
You’d heard part of it and smirked. “Did you think you were the only one in Riverdale with secrets Miss Lodge?”
People say that love’s a game A game you just can’t win
Veronica shook her head, a smile on her face.
-
As you pulled into Lover’s Point Veronica was in awe of the view. “It’s beautiful,” she said, her voice above a whisper.
You parked the car then you turned to her. “The view is better in here,” you said with a smile.
Veronica turned to you. “That’s so cheesy.”
You are my destiny You share my reverie You are my happiness That’s what you are.
You turned up the volume slightly then turned back to Veronica. Veronica stared at you, her eyes locked onto yours. “Interesting song choice there (y/n).”
You smiled as you leaned in closer to her. Veronica leaned in towards you, taking brief glances at your lips. Your lips were about to meet, Veronica closed her eyes.
You have my sweet caress You share my loneliness You are my dream come true That’s what you are
Just before your lips met hers you pulled back. “Let’s talk outside, it’s a beautiful night.”
Veronica opened her eyes. She let out a deep breath. “You tease.”
Heaven and heaven alone Can take your love from me ‘Cause I’d be a fool To ever leave you dear And a fool I’d never be
You opened the door and stepped out. Veronica shook her head, she couldn’t believe you’d played her so quickly. She composed herself and opened the door.  You sat on the hood of your car waiting for her. The music still played, loud enough for you to hear outside.
You are my destiny You share my reverie You’re more than life to me That’s what you are
Veronica joined you on the hood of your car. “The stars are shining so bright tonight.”
You nodded. “The night sky is filled with mystery and beauty.”
A chill ran up Veronica’s spine. She pulled her thin jacket closer around her shoulders. You started unzipping your jacket. “Here,” you said and placed it on her shoulders.
Veronica slipped her hands through the arm holes and zipped it up. “Thank you but now you’re cold.”
You were about to say that you were fine but Veronica put your arm around her shoulders and wrapped her arms around your waist. “Now neither of us is cold,” she said and looked up at you.
You smiled down at her.
You are my destiny You share my reverie You are my happiness That’s what you are
“Veronica,” you said, your voice low.
“Yes,” she replied, her eyes fixed on your lips once again.
“I want to kiss you,” you said plainly.
She smiled. “What’s stopping you?”
“I’m afraid if I do I’ll wake up and realize tonight was just a dream.”
Veronica’s smile disappeared. She sat up and with one hand she cupped your cheek. “It’s not a dream,” she said before she brought your lips to hers.
Her lips were soft, her lipstick was sticky and you could feel it getting all over your face but you didn’t care. You brought your arms around Veronica’s waist and pulled her closer to you. Veronica’s arms found themselves wrapping around your neck. Your stomach couldn’t stop doing somersaults and it felt like you might throw up but you didn’t stop. You didn’t stop kissing her until your lungs were burning and aching for air. You pulled away and bit her lower lips as you did. Veronica smiled devilishly.
She wiped away lipstick stains with her thumb. “Told you it wasn’t a dream,” she whispered.
“I think I need to kiss you again just to make sure.” You smiled and pulled her in for another kiss.
With the stars and moon above you, you kissed Veronica Lodge all night until her mother was calling her at midnight demanding her to come home. Even then when you pulled up her apartment Veronica sneaked in a few more kisses. When she got out of the car she leaned back in through the window and kissed your cheek. “Dream of me, okay?”
You nodded. “Wouldn’t dare dream of anyone else Miss Lodge.”
She winked as she pulled back and walked into her apartment building. You pulled off into the street and knew you were going to have a very fun school year.
Chapter fifteen~ this special club
Tumblr media
2020
When her eyes focused on the surroundings, the blonde saw the large man who bend down; he wears a deep purple smoking, a black coat and a topper suited his dark hair; his light blue eyes full of eager.
“How did you do that?”
“Oh, my dear, I know every strewing soul in Hollywood, and so are you,” he offers his hand down to her.
“And what am I doing here?”
“Well you, you have an extraordinary ability and I can give you everything.”
“The only thing I need are answers and I don’t think some old man in a smoking can give me those.”
“But I can give you the space to use them..”
It was the fourth night in roll the girl happened to approach his ‘club’, he promised her to give her freedom with her powers but she had to use them in there so the people could see them as well as Caleb.
“Sabrina dear, you’re finally here,” he steps next to her, “today’s the day you’ll sing right?” he nudges her side, “we get some special guests.”
“I’ve no other choice.”
The blonde was in the room backstage when Willie arrived there, “Hey Willow,” he greets, beaming at her.
“Hey, dude. What’s wrong?”
“Well I found those three ghosts and- where’s Caleb?”
“Probably at the bar or talking to some lifer,” she shrugs her shoulders.
But then the named man walks down the stairs, “Oh hey, um.. I brought those ghosts I met? Um it’s.. it’s still okay they’re here right?”
“Of course William. I even reserved a special table for them,” he took a sip of his cup.
“Whoa, all right! Um.. thank you.”
Caleb’s feature weren’t readable, his face among the shades due to the light behind him. “No, no. thank you.”
When Willie was about to leave he almost crashes into the blonde since he was so nervous, “this way,” he points chuckling lightly.
The tall man left Sabrina without another word, on his way up he even chuckles evilly.
Sabrina takes her position behind the drums, her eyes wandering around the venue like always but this time there were three new faces.
I brought those ghosts I met, Willie’s voice echoed through her head.
Her eyes widened and her fingers began to shake, she rubs her palms onto her jeans getting rid of the sweat.
Her outfit, well Caleb wanted her rather to wear a pastel, knee length dress but that wasn’t her.
The blonde made herself invisible terrified that they would notice her presence.
“I know that you are here dear,” his voice small but plummy, he smirked at the teenager. In the next moment he could examine the blonde, in her black trousers and flannel, she wore the necklace Alex gifted her and Luke’s ring, curls falling down her head, “you look pleasant, Sabrina.”
“Thank you,” her voice just above a whisper, her eyes glued on the tums.
“Shall we start?” She nods.
“Ladies and gentlemen, back from the dead by popular demand, please welcome Caleb Covington!” the crowd erupts in sheering, furious clapping filled the room.
Caleb floats right over Sabrina, Willie laid his eyes on her and winked.
“Did you miss me?” his voice pulled the pair out of their staring contest.
The thing is Willie is in fact a real nice guy and she would have introduced him to her fellas, yet he works with the devil himself and she couldn’t jeopardise the boys. But it looks like the band found Willie themselves.
“I did too!”
“Welcome to the party of your dreams!”
“From the Egyptians to the druids, to the person sitting next to you, we’ve all wondered, ‘where do we go when that final light is snuffed out?’ Allow me to show you.”
Sabrina’s knuckels turn white as she held tight on the sticks; she starts to beat on the tom, giving the rhythm to the music.
Let me introduce myself, we got some time to kill
Consider me the pearly gates to your new favorite thrills
We could go make history or you could rest in peace
But here there ain't no misery
Cause on the other side we live like kings
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do?
Let your body loose, let your body loose
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do?
Show you a thing or two
Cause you ain't seen nothing
The band was now visible for everyone. The blonde was seated behind Caleb’s back although she could observe everything from there.
When the refrain kicks in, Sabrina’s voice was audible too, it was quiet however the boys would still recognize it.
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
So welcome to the brotherhood
Where you won't be misunderstood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
Caleb’s approached the table the boys were at, making his magic trick like every night.
Everything has got a price but happiness is free
Just so happens, you're in luck, we've got a vacancy
We can set the night on fire and break out of the scene
Your soul print on the walk of fame on the boulevard of your wildest dreams
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do? Boys
Let your body loose, let your body loose
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do? Boys
It ain't bragging if it's true
Now you ain't seen nothing
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
So welcome to the brotherhood
Where you won't be misunderstood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
Now it was time that the singer spun around to Sabrina and sing the next verse with her
The rain don't blind the rising souls
They got too much to see
I got your glamour, got your gold
Got all you'll ever need
Let me hear you now!
The rain don't blind the rising souls
They got too much to see
Yeah!
I got your glamour, got your gold
Got all you'll ever need
Yeah!
Sabrina could glimpse at the three teenager, which where dancing in their chairs and clapping to the rhythm
Watch me make a move, watch me make a move, boys
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do?
Watch me make a move, no, I don't disappoint
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do? Amen
Watch me make a move, I'm ya number one choice
Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do?
Watch me make a move, come one and give me that noise
A tomb with a view, ain't it something?
Yeah! He poofed a dancer on the ring which floated in the far corner
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
So welcome to the brotherhood
Where you won't be misunderstood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
So welcome to the brotherhood
Where you won't be misunderstood
Life is good on the other side of Hollywood
Ain't it the best?
Long live the dead!
The two assistance held a black blanket in front of his body and he sang the last words, poofing out of the room soon after, leaving the cheering crowd alone with the band.
A short silence filled the venue but Sabrina remembered Caleb saying to drum again, keeping the mood.
Her eyes were still on her brother and his friends which converse with Willie. Fortunately, they didn’t detected the blonde behind the drums, yet.
Suddenly, Caleb was behind them, which frightens her, she poofed herself away from her spot and another soul replaced her. Sabrina hides behind the large frame of Caleb, a few inches away from them but still able to eavesdrop.
“Hello boys, Caleb Convigton. Welcome to the Hollywood Ghost Club. Enjoying the show?”
“Yo, that was.. I mean.. did you.. like.”
“I know.”
“Right?”
“This is Alex, Luke and Reggie,” Willie states.
“Yeah, it’s really nice to meet you.”
“’Sup?” Reggie’s voice has never been this deep and raspy before, Sabrina facepalmed herself.
“The pleasure its mine. Nothing warms my heart more than sharing this magic with new friends. Please sit. Sit.”
"Uh thank you for the invite."
“Of course! Of course! Now, my friend Willie tells me that you boys have some magic on your own.”
Alex’s jaw dropped, brows raised and eyes widened, he clears his throat, “well.. Willie and I? I mean I wouldn’t really call it magic, but, I mean..” he chuckles.
“Oh no, he means your ghost abilities. You know, like, to be seen by everybody when you play with Julie.”
“No, totally. Right no,” Sabrina couldn’t help but smile at her idiotic brother, “’cause when you said it, I was like, ‘is that what he said?’ cause..”
Caleb shrugs it of by waving his hands, finally.
"Yeah, but we can’t really, uh, wave our arms and do all this magic stuff.”
"Well, I’ve had some practice. Our gifts are so rare, so special. It’s not often I come across other spirits who possess similar talents. It’s no surprise we found each other.”
“Yeah, definitely…”
“Yeah like Brie and..” Luke slaps his hand against Reggie’s chest.
“If you’ll forgive me, fellas, I gotta go pay the bills, if you know what I’m saying. I’ll be back later to chat,” he rises to his feet and disappeared.
