it's incredible that tumblr fandom went from DESPERATELY trying to see ANY sort of queer love in the shows we liked, to having shows—high budget, well-made, interesting, mainstream shows staring known actors—that are ABOUT queer love. explicitly, without argument. and just ten years later.

i saw (and reblogged) a post about how GO, ofmd, and wwdits are the new superwholock and i havent stopped thinking about it. cuz i was there, i was in the trenches back in the day. i was there when the writers and actors made fun of us for seeing on screen chemistry and perfect stories to set up romances. they all humored us then shat on us and saw us as a joke. a bunch of weirdo faggy teens that don't think two men can just be friends.

and now look at us. we're seeing the on screen chemistry and it's REAL. it's ON PURPOSE. these ARE romantic stories about queer people. we're not projecting or have wishful thinking... it's TRUE!! it was written and directed and edited and acted that way in earnest. i will take NO SHIT regarding these shows and people's love for them.

and do you know WHY these shows are being made now? these well thought out, feels-real, non-pandering queer stories? it's BECAUSE OF WHAT WE DID ten+ years ago. a lot of queer media never got the green light to be made because execs don't think there's enough of an audience. that more people will dislike the gays than like them. and we've shown them that that's unequivocally untrue. the outcry we had for all those years, the reviews we left, the statements we made, the backlash, it gave show runners ammunition to say "hey. people will watch this. they will like it. let us make it."

It's just so weird to me that sometimes there is this strange "fight" in the wwdits fandom about who's worse between Nandor and Guillermo. People getting REALLY mad if you like Nandor more than Guillermo and vice versa.

I always read about how Nandor doesn't deserve Guillermo, Guillermo doesn't deserve Nandor; Nandor is better than Guillermo, Guillermo is better than Nandor, then Nandor is more toxic than Guillermo, but ha! Guillermo is actually more toxic than Nandor because blah blah blah...

Like we are basing their traits and personalities only regarding the interaction between each other and not in the whole context of the world built around them in the show (which is a funny silly very fucked up show, I think we tend to forget that)

I just find it strange that some people need to give complete shit to one character to make the other be more in the right.

And we are creating this weird spiral where you can't say good things about one character without bringing out how it has been so bad and unfair with the other.

Both of them BOTH are just not your usual disney princess so pure of heart always doing the right thing, singing and dancing with the birds and forest animals (although Nandor whished he was)

Both of them are fucked up but they are learning so so much throughout the series and that's what is keeping me so interested in them.

My only wwdits prediction at this point is if they’re gonna double down on having Guillermo stay mortal then the setup for endgame is going to be a kind of Gregor situation where every lifetime from now on Nandor will find Guillermo, they fall in love, stay together until Guillermo keels over from old age or related vampire shenanigans, and then finds him again when he reincarnates.

That or they do the thing someone else mentioned where he does end up a vampire but Nandor just does all the murdering for him and brings him blood and stuff as a parallel to how Guillermo waited on Nandor for years as a familiar or whatever..

im rewatching wwdits from the beginning to like, recalibrate my fanon meter, and oh my god people always try to make like guillermo the straight man (uh. in comedy terms. no one makes guillermo heterosexual), or occasionally nadja or even colin, but it turns out NANDOR is actually usually the one to be like “uh guys lets not do that, why are we doing this this is a terrible idea”

i mean yeah hes a big goofy idiot and when it’s just him and guillermo obviously guillermo plays that role, but somehow he actually has more common sense than the other two vampires. HE’S not the one fucking around with cursed hats and reincarnated ghost lovers. he just wants to play chess and eat a virgin or two sometimes. leave him out of all this nonsense.

while doing research for another theory I came across a completely mundane detail that I can’t imagine holding any actual significance but at the same time I couldn’t pass up sharing it

so, during the scene that I am calling the Pepsi Challenge, we have this moment:

Nandor gives Guillermo, as he says, a “flat Pepsi”

except Guillermo doesn’t drink Pepsi…

my boy is a Coke-Cola drinker as the lord intended.

normally this isn’t even worth mentioning. maybe the line was ad-libed or read wrong, or it’s just a joke that wasn’t thought about very long and that’s all good! i’m cool with all that. what would this inconsistency even mean in the long run anyway right? how would Nandor even know the difference between Coke and Pepsi???

really what gets me is that in the scene the bottle is set and reset two or more times, almost always keeping the label visible.

now, it’s been a while since i’ve been thru this issue on a set, but my understanding was that no labels could be used without paying a licensing fee. which is why you usually see fake labels on products in tv and film or more likely, they just turn a product at an angle so the label can’t be read and nobody has to pay anything to use it. but here the label is not only clearly visible but it maintains visibility at almost all cuts. which means the bottle was purposefully realigned in order for audiences to see that Guillermo is undoubtably drinking Coke-Cola. wwdits paying a licensing fee for this seems a little odd considering it’s not like Guillermo drinking Coke is important in anyway. it doesn't give significant product-placement either. but then Nandor brings up the flat Pepsi and i’m like ??? and if anyone says that Guillermo drinks both, shut your goddamn mouth and jump in a lake and when you climb out find the nearest convenience store and drink one or both of them because obviously you never had before and have no idea what you’re talking about. the two drinks are notorious for, if one is liked, the person would find the other absolutely disgusting.

also, yes, Guillermo didn’t just have it for show. he actually drunk it.

again, i’m not saying this means anything. i just think it’s interesting. 🤷‍♂️
