Happy Binderary 2024!! Kicking things off with the fantastic Never understood a single word he said by dear friend @aboxthecolourofheartache. I had the best time beta'ing this for Box and just had to have it on my shelf! More pics and process info under the cut:
had an absolute blast packing as many easter eggs as I could into this one! it's a roadtrip gone wrong fic heh, so I went for a scrapbook/collage cover made of the same kraft paper I usually use for paperbacks, but left the hinge + spine exposed. I tore each piece from a different sheet of scrapbook paper, so the resulting texture is really fun:
I also went to town with references to some of the events in the story, particularly on the back of the cover. the postcard is probably my favorite element; here are my few first practice runs on scratch paper (along with some of my colored pencil testings for the markings on the map) before I went for it on the real cover!
I repurposed the ribbon graphics I originally drew for another bind (@feralrookie's right where I should be ❤️). the music notes on the first page notate the rhythm of the opening lines of the song the fic is based on, Three Dog Night's "Joy to the World," which I had on loop while I was typesetting this! ("Jeremiah was a bullfrog/Was a good friend of mine.") Box's taste in trigun-themed country and blues is impeccable, and I have a whole spotify playlist made almost entirely of her recs ehe :3
the blank/empty ribbon appears between chapter 1 and the epilogue for story reasons ehe; really wanted to convey the feeling of "where did the music go?", because I also listened to American Pie a lot while making this lolol.
also added little camera graphic at the end, which reminded me of meryl's occupation as a journalist, but the hands/lack of a face holding the camera also gives me the uncanny feeling of being watched/photographed (also plot relevant heh). camera graphic and the house graphic at the beginning are both sourced from Heritage Type's free vintage illustrations, from a series of packs called "Hands Holding Stuff."
the hand holding the house on the title page gave me wolfwood's confessional-on-the-go vibes, BUT it was originally held straight like this:
so I decided to tilt it to give it more of that feeling of instability and "oh shit my entire world is being turned upside down rn god the exits WHERE ARE THE EXITS (there are no exits)" feeling present in the fic :D so I guess it's more of a knives reference?? still, the kind of "what is even going on here?" reaction I had when I first saw it fits well with the title, so I went with it!
and that's it for now!! I'll be out of town for the next week or so, but I have a bunch more projects I'm really excited to share this month, along with some long-overdue author copies that I'm excited to get mailed to their rightful homes!

Hey! So, I know you probably haven't watched it yet, BUT: when you do, I must know your comprehensive thoughts on the latest Rookie episode!?!

Okay, because I'm insane, I'm going to split this into two sections: not-chenford, and chenford.
SPOILERS FOR 6x02 UNDER THE CUT
First up, everything NOT-chenford-related:
Honestly they could have botched it, but it was SO FUN having Randy back for the wedding. "Sit down, German, I got this." i mean???? iconic. Also having him be literally in Pete's place and WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND? even more iconic. I'm a ride or die Randy fan, so all his scenes just made me unreasonably happy :)
it was understandably short, but I loved having Celina ride with Nyla, finally. It was kind of satisfying to see her get humbled in interrogation, because imo Nolan has been kind of lax with her training, letting her get away with things the other rookies would have been fired for. So it's nice that she'll spend some time away from him and with a *ahem* more experienced TO. hopefully. We'll see.
Ugh, my heart breaks for Aaron this season. Kid's traumatized for REAL. And his comment to Celina about not sharing things with the therapist because he wants to get back on patrol, not necessarily get better. That bothered me. I really hope they dig into that a lot. But I also hope nothing horrible happens because of it. He seemed so unstable, even when he wasn't drunk. I'm also very interested to see where this goes with his and Celina's friendship. Just a lot of good stuff that could be a really thoughtful and interesting story if handled right...
Aaaaand this episode confirms that I intensely dislike Bailey. Everything about her character is just trying too hard, like the writers were so tired of having Nolan date and break up a few times, they were like okay fine this one can stay, and even though they have chemistry readings in the negatives, they keep trying to push it even though it feels so wrong. I'd rather have Nolan be single the rest of the show than be in this stale cardboard relationship. But it's fine, they're not going to split them up now, so I'll have to deal with it lol
The whole thing with Oscar suing was SO rushed. Like, so insanely rushed I couldn't even be annoyed at him. I hope they bring him back and do it for real, because that was weird to kind of shoehorn in there just for dramatic effect.
EPIC COP TEAMUP IN SUITS AND TIES MY BELOVEDDDD. Seriously they all looked SO GOOD chasing down bad guys and beating people up. White dress shirts were truly the MVPs of this episode
Will Celina just. be wearing long sleeves the rest of her life? Seriously how long has she been a rookie already?? Most of Angela's pregnancy and maternity leave, so at least 10 months, if not more. Hell, she should be graduating from the program soon. The timeline in this show is absolute trash.
Speaking of-- Baby Wopez name drop when????? poor girl's been nameless for too long
James coming in clutch with the playlist was chef's kiss. I LOVE that man
ALSO JAMES AND WESLEY'S BROMANCE. "I went with a suit." "Me too. Mine has a tie." "Oh my god, same!" I CAN'T WITH THESE TWO. Probably my favorite bromance of anyone ever.
Finally, just in general-- I know some people were put off by how much stuff was jam-packed into 42 minutes (again. how???) but I think they pulled it off reasonably well. There was actually very good pacing, lots of comedy and angst and everything in between. I personally LOVED this episode and I think it deserves a few rewatches just to pick up on everything they threw at us. It has its flaws, but it will definitely be a 100th episode to remember, that's for sure.
AND NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE MOMENT WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR.

Here we go!
I'm just a little bit torn on how they decided to approach this. On the one hand, it was nice that they were still able to work together and talk without excessive drama. Although... Tim shutting the door on her did hurt. Yeah. That hurt a lot. But I had really hoped that they would acknowledge that Lucy was in the wrong last episode too. She was being completely unreasonable and like Tim said, she was projecting. But in this ep, it seemed like she was validated and he was the one being unreasonable. While his trauma with Isabel is something they desperately need to talk about (like Lucy said), she was also reacting too harshly to it and being unfair with her accusations. But honestly, it's okay. We still have 8 episodes to sort it out and it seems like they're very much on the right track. I'm hoping they have a really really really intense, tearful, honest, raw, cathartic conversation about the whole thing. Seems like that's the direction they're going, so I won't hold my breath but it is something that needs to happen.
ALL OF THEIR INTERACTIONS were just so. hnnggg. so chewy. so much going on. THE LOOKS DURING THE WEDDING. hang on I'll come back to that in a sec.
The scene with the Hammer was NEXT LEVEL. (Also fun that they named the episode after That Scene, specifically. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........) For some reason I immensely enjoyed watching Tim get thrown around like a rag doll. Not sure what that's about. Never seen that side of myself before.
THE FORESHADOWING. That on-one-knee thing was more than I thought they'd give us, and OMG I ATE IT UP. The little pause, where Lucy's breath kind of catches, and Tim just seems kind of oblivious. THAT'S CINEMA, BABEY.
Kind of insane about Tim just passing out like that. Poor man.
CELINA MENTIONING LUCY'S BACHELORETTE PARTY????? hello even more foreshadowing :))))
The scene cuts back and forth when Lucy is helping with the cake and Tim with the flowers??? THEY'RE TELEPATHIC SOULMATES DON'T TALK TO ME.
And the fact that the lie detector was RANDY'S IDEA? I'm shrieking. "Ein wenig crazy," is definitely something my adhd bilingual ass has said irl
oh my lord how CLOSE she scoots her chair?? i'm melting
I thought it was kind of a nice touch to have Tim be actually surprised by the lie detector picking up his answer to the last question being a lie. Because honestly.... now it makes a little more sense: he's been lying to himself. Which is kind of an angle I didn't see coming. "I guess we do have a problem," sounds to me like he literally hasn't been able to admit to himself that he doesn't want Lucy undercover. Of course he wants her to make detective, that's not a question. Detective doesn't equal undercover. But he's been telling himself probably since day one that he's fine with it, that she's not Isabel, that he has nothing to worry about . . . and now he's finally seeing that he really is terrified. Something she's seen in him all along. And while their argument last episode was about more than just this (I still believe she was in the wrong for projecting so hard and making crazy assumptions about him), I think I can see where the writers were going with it.
THE I LOVE YOUS D E S T R O Y E D ME
Okay, back to the Looks at the wedding. Tim being all 🧍and scanning the crowd for his girl . . . Lucy delivering the Heart Eyes of the century . . . Them still sitting together because even though they're fighting, they're still each other's person, and nothing can change that . . . I'm going into cardiac arrest.
In my book, "We're gonna get through this" is a nice breath of fresh air and a bit of relief, but it doesn't mean they've worked everything out. Again, they need a good solid conversation. One that this episode was never going to give us, sadly. But it'll come!
ALSOOOO that moment when Aaron interrupts them and we see Tim's hand around her waist, I just OOF i need a moment
I AM NEVER GONNA BE NORMAL ABOUT THIS EPISODE. the foreshadowing, the parallels, the pining, the dancing, the fighting, the emotions, EVERYTHING. It was not perfect but it was WONDERFUL. 10000/10, I need to watch all their scenes about five million more times.
AND THERE WE HAVE IT. I'll definitely be posting more thoughts soon, but that's where I'm at for now. Basically I think they set the groundwork for a really solid, healthy relationship going forward. I LOVED their moments in this ep, absolutely top tier. The ANGST. I am eating up every second of it.

Hii hannah! I'm bout three months late because i had exams going on, well, I still have exams going on but I decided to not procrastinate and just write this.
Thank you so so much for writing my tenth doctor and rory requests. you don't know how much it means that you took time out of your life to write my requests. when I first started watching Doctor who, barely a season in, i stumbled upon your blog and read your dying girl story, i didn't even know anything properly bout doctor's character or other companions but your fic though! it captured doctor's character so well! It was in May I read it and started watching the show and I now always connect that time with doctor who and you and your fics haha.
I got so obsessed that I made this dying girl reader universe in my head with headcanons and stuff and started associating songs to the reader and fic ; i know they are like kinda popular cliche songs but snowman by sia and never be the same by camila cabelo really reminds me of the amy and rorys wedding scene with reader and doctor dancing (was it real or I made that up in my head?) and memory of reader practising mind reading thing and seeing memories of Doctor and she's like who's this beautiful person in his memories and doctor is like that's you love <3 moonlight serenade, spring waltz, we'll meet again, moon river, across the universe are some other songs I associate with them,, you didn't even ask for playlist but here I'm sharing it just because lmao
and then you wrote my ten request and added it dying girl universe, when I tell you actually started screaming from excitement when I saw it! I really wasn't expecting it, i was so so happy! I love that you took off with the Dying Girl universe because honestly that's what it became for me while I was writing it. It became so big I knew I could write so much about what happens in between the parts, and your request fit perfectly there.

I totally understand finding yourself fully immersed in a story, even if it is fanfiction. When that happens to me I just write and post it on here 😅 That's happened with the Dying Girl and the episodic series I started for the Eleventh Doctor and the Samwise Gamgee series and this Mandalorian one I'm starting.
My brain is hardwired to come up with these random tangents to canon stories, and they end up becoming these elaborate fanfictions.

I have not finished twelves episodes - I'm still on his last season. Just like I wrote on our last conversation, I'm terrified of how sad I'll feel when he leaves because ten and eleven were real heartbreakers. I agree, I love him, and I'm so excited you requested something for him.

Since discovering your work during the pandemic, I have practically inhaled everything you've written. Your stories are amazing. The characterization, the worldbuilding, the plots, the sex, the trauma and recovery, everything is just so top tier and a very small part of me wishes I never stumbled across your stuff because now I can read subpar fics, only this quality and above which I'm sure you know is hard to find. That's why you're writing these stories after all!

And yeah it's true, I am very much writing these stories because I can so rarely find exactly what I'm looking for. I find a lot of good stories! But like, they're not kinky, or there's not enough hurt/comfort, or the trauma-recovery isn't quite there, or they're not long enough, or etc. etc. etc. I guess I'm just Goldilocksing my way through writing stories I want to read, one serial at a time. It's an absolute miracle that these get to be enjoyed by others too! For a long time I felt like I was such a kind of freak for wanting something so specific I couldn't find it!
I don't know what will happen with Glamour Gods, it's definitely not forgotten. I don't know if there's much room for long-form science fiction urban fantasy paranormal kinky romance but like, maybe one day. :D I'll just keep adding to the playlist until then!

man you can have the perpetually in progress playlist for jackrabbit brujo. fair warning that like, the first half of this is general vibes of the story whereas most of the second half contains specific storybeats and so are a bit...off? idk but. y'know. it needs more soda stereo but sin sobresaltos oh my god it's so hard to type with a cat settling on my typin fingers sin sobresaltos and take it easy battle each other for best opening song.

for tserith? tseng secretly needs glasses but it's not good for assassin work. postcanon he wears them a bit more commonly but he has a habit of falling asleep with them on which very much delights aeris. for my characters it's just canon bitch and you know this but i'll tell the world this too, vel and laura went on a date and figured they'd work well together so they went on a second date, which was more of a test for vel where laura brought shoua along to vibe check for laura if vel was going to be ok esp due to their unusual (coincidental) meeting. this second date occurred on a karaoke night at a bar with a secret stipulation: vel would choose one song to sing and then laura and shoua would choose a second. regardless of whatever song vel chose to sing they'd choose an extremely gendered song to see if he'd swap the genders in singing it. vel's choice went first which he chose "take a chance on me" by ABBA, pleaded in between verses, sat down to laura laughing and going "WE WERE GOING TO HAVE YOU SING ABBA TOO" which caused him to laugh and then he killed it on 'gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight'. so that's when they started dating For Real
🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity
this is gonna suck so bad: wait it out. But Actively wait it out. Watch a new movie, binge a new topic, try out a new type of show you haven't tried before, cook something new (that's right it doesn't have to be story related!) build a gundam, do something else for a while. Exercise the other parts of your brain. Eventually it'll come back around, but just like how a machine overheats if it runs for too long, or muscles get tired, or cats can go from 100 to 0 in 5 minutes, your writing brain needs rest and the less you beat yourself up over that the gentler the rest will be and t he more revitalizing getting that creativity back will be also. Also, while i said try a lot of "new" things, i think at first if you're VERY blocked up just put something mindless or familiar on. I particularly enjoy basketball for the moment to moment sparks of joy that don't demand full attention, and if I find myself itching to do Something Else while watching the game (either during it or right after) then I know I'm ready to try smth newer and stuff. It takes time. The worst thing you can do is berate yourself. Only berate yourself when you're editing your work. it's really fun. pull a hunter s thompson and shoot your fucking typewriter.

So, "we become the flowers", a.k.a. my cowboy au is finally out and being worked on! I'm super excited to be posting this. I'm delighted to have gotten it done already as I was hoping to have it posted before the 17th to celebrate the RDR re-port hahah. I got lucky!

General thoughts
This fic is meant to be a western style of story, and as such I wanted to follow one of the three western storylines (bounty hunting, revenge, and political stories). I chose revenge! Bounty hunting is technically in there too, but I’d call this more of a revenge story than one about picking up a bounty.
I kind of blended this Western revenge genre with Austen-style romance because ooughh,,, the romantic and homoerotic tension in wanting someone SO BADLY but not being allowed to make a move for fear of scandal… it’s tasty stuff.
The au is meant to be set in a fantasy alternate - real-world in many ways, but flowers can bloom whenever I feel like it because I want cute flowers throughout the fic. I wanted an early-spring discussion in the beginning of this fic, but Fade gives her a peony, which bloom starting from late spring.
The town was named Vennecoate both as a reference to Venice and also to Bloodwritten Silver. I chose Venice as the inspiration behind Venshire in that fic and I liked the reasoning well enough to do the same here - that reasoning being Venice is both a huge part of Valorant lore and also where the training range is. I just like it! I chose this specific naming style after a real old western town, too - Kennecott in Alaska, which was a mining camp abandoned after natural resources dried up in 1938. It’s a national historic landmark now and can be visited.
Fade and Neon are called Hazal and Tala in this au, but like I did with bloodwritten silver, I’ll be calling them and other named characters by their codenames just for my own sake in meta posts.
Neon’s dog is called Kidlat which means lightning… bc “lightning strike”… she has Lightning and Strike… I’ll go now

They don’t have their piercings in the fic (piercings wouldn’t become commonly used until around the 1950s) and Fade actually has some trauma related to infection and disease (we’ll learn more about this later), so she wouldn’t risk it even if they were commonly worn at this time.

In celebration of the last chapter of Ghastly Advice I'm going to share some fun facts about the story:
I was having a lot of trouble writing Ochako's POV in Chapter 2. Specifically, the part where she told the girls why she hadn't yet confessed to Deku. Then DEATH by Melanie Martinez came on my playlist and suddenly it came really easily. I have no idea why that song was my inspiration. FAIRIE SOIREE and LIGHT SHOWER were helpful too for some reason.
“After all, who better to reach the sun, than a girl who can defy gravity.” <- This is one of my FAVORITE lines in the whole fic
My cat stomped all over my computer multiple times throughout the story, and multiple times she almost deleted my Word document. I love her.
I almost went to the hospital before Chapter 8 was released. I was eating a salad, and in my family, instead of salad dressing we pour some white vinegar and oil on it. So, I reach down into the cupboard to grab the vinegar, and put it on the counter while I put some leftovers in the microwave. I grab the jug, only to take a closer look at the label and see that it's AMMONIA. Thank goodness I saw that in time. I did end up having to eat an oily salad though.
The Toshinko in Chapter 5 made me realize that I gave Inko a thing for tall guys. I mean, in any DFO universe, I kinda feel like she would have that.
My sister was there every step of the way. Because I would use writing this as an excuse to get out of things I didn't want to do and she would argue with me.
Green tea is an extremely popular drink/flavor in Japan, but I have a headcanon that the Green Tea couple are the only ones in Class 1-A who have it as a favorite. Like, for everyone else it's second-favorite at best, a few have it in the middle, and some totally hate it, but they're the only ones who LOVE it.
The other reference in Chapter 2 was Gloves the dog. He was a reference to Bond from Spy x Family.
The reason why Bakugo and Second were related is because Bakugo was supposed to play a bigger part and because I really wanted this to happen -> "You were married?! But if he's my great-something uncle, and your HIS uncle then..." "OMG Kacchan we're cousins! :D" Sadly, I couldn't fit it in, so it had to be cut out,
The number of times my aro/ace self looked back and thought "wait, these people are attracted to each other. I just keep writing about their FEELINGS" and then I had to go back and write some stuff about how nice they thought the other person looked.
Since in this universe, Deku saved Tomura and then he fought against AFO I was thinking about having a chapter where he went to Tomura for advice (because he also showed up in the vestige world) but I couldn't think of a way for that to happen. It would've been hilarious though.
I know I killed off AFO here just so I didn't have to deal with him, but some small part of me was a little tempted to bring his vestige in, just because it was funny. "Oh, thank god, it's a straight-haired girl. None of those spiky-haired men for my little rabbit." "Dad what the hell-"
I know I came up with the fic idea of Todoroki somehow managing to set Ochako up on a date and somehow managing to land himself on a date with Deku for someone else to write, but now I really want to write it. I'm just having trouble thinking of plot points and who Ochako should date. Someone please help.

are there any songs you associate with the Atandil series? or are there any favorites to listen to while you write?
I'm unreasonably excited to get this ask because YES absolutely. In fact, I have a whole playlist I've been adding to as the Atandil series develops that has one song per installment and am just sitting here grinning that I finally have a reason to share it on here. So thank you for this ask!!
Basically this is a playlist of the songs that either a) I listened to on repeat while writing a given installment, or b) just have the right vibes and consequently always get associated with that part of the story. The outlier there is track 1, which is pretty much the "theme" of the entire series. I'll do a list below the link to give you the quick tour.
Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis || Ralph Vaughan Williams, Hallé, Sir Mark Elder
So as I mentioned in the summary, this is basically the theme for the whole series. It has such a breadth of emotion and beauty in it, and it makes me tear up almost every time. I love this piece so much. And consequently it's really fitting that it's also the primary one associated with Part 1, since that is sort of the flagship installment of the series where all the philosophical framework gets laid out.
Gravity || Ludovico Einaudi
This piece captures so much of the movement from Grief in All Her Guises. It conjures up the movement of the river in the opening scene, the butterfly that began the Quenya lessons, the laughter around the fire at lunchtime, the sound of Finrod's voice as Balan experiences it moving through him on the hilltop, the overarching movement of the stars dancing overhead.
Child of the Troubles || Andrew Simon McAllister
Tragically this one no longer plays on Apple Music or Spotify, but I linked to the artist's page in the song title where you can stream it. This one is the partner track to Unfriends and Belen's run-in with the Laiquendi.
The Fall || Hans Zimmer
Just such excellent Fen of Serech vibes here, especially the 2nd half. I literally listened to this one on loop while writing Ye Shall Render Blood and it is the whole mood of that installment.
Solringen || Wardruna
The whole piece works well as the right feelings for A Shuddering in the Air, but specifically the chunk beginning at 4:44 was the underlying inspiration for the way they deliver the "oath of parting" in the burial rites at the end.
Night || Ludovico Einaudi
Appropriately named musical accompaniment for Here in Our Frailty, which takes place all throughout the Longest Night. Additional excellent vibes as that sometimes the warbly effect on certain notes reminds me of the haunting ice sounds that I listened to on loop for the Finrod-has-a-freakout section.
Flora || Ludovico Einaudi
Ok so apparently half of this playlist is just Ludovico Einaudi, but that's because his stuff is great. The peaceful vibes of lying in a golden field while your crush drops a snowdrop flower on your face and flirts while completely clueless are all over this one, so it's the partner piece to A Heady Fragrance of Honey.
Into Dust || Mazzy Star
This is my ultimate doomed mortal/immortal relationship song. The only explanation needed here is honestly to direct you straight to the lyrics. It even references fading. Absolute perfection and the correct level of abject sorrow for In Memory Untarnished.
Citizen of Glass || Agnes Obel
This one is just Correct for Vassal somehow. I'm pretty sure it is this line of lyrics that solidified it for me: Some let go and some hold on / There is no mistake / If I could wash all ill away / Tell me would you stay? But also it just has all the right feelings to it, if that makes sense.
Time Escaping || Big Thief
Happy road trip music for the boys! Or. Well. Extremely depressing road trip music for the boys given the context and the song title and the mortality and um...god can't these two be happy for one second. Happiness I guess, much like the installment this goes with, is A Shifting Mirage.
The Path of the Fossils || Ludovico Einaudi
He's back, folks! As I said - apparently half the playlist. But anyway, I love the recurring waves of impending emotion that continuously come back throughout this piece. It works so well with the barrage of feelings that both Finrod and Beren work through in Many a Dreadful Path. And in addition to that, the title plays very nicely with the shelf of memories and Beren's recollection of Emeldir telling him, “Know the path your forefathers set so that in such grounding you may see where your own should diverge.”
Númenor || Bear McCreary
I have...complicated feelings re Rings of Power (to put it mildly), but thankfully those have not killed how much I love this piece from the soundtrack. In fact, it's so thoroughly associated now with Balan's arrival in Nargothrond in Children of the Sun that I almost forget it very much belongs with something else.

could I ask how you got into nilfruits? I have NO IDEA where everyone found out all the character's names, and i'd love to know because i have a friend that's really into the mvs asdlkfnalsdfaf (thank you in advance if you do answer)
Thank you for the question! Short answer: I loved music videos and naturally started loving it after stumbling upon it on youtube! (I think it was also my sister's fault, who became obsessed some hours after I showed her some videos and told her about Flurry and Welter). As far as I know, most of the character's names come from Mr Nilfruits' twitter! A few of them I learned them from my sister reading his old tweets, then after I started making friends with other fans they taught me the ones I didn't know :)
Looong and not so helpful answer, just because I love talking about stuff like this:
I had recently started to actually get into vocaloid and want to find new songs (in september 2021! I'm a super recent fan :) ) and I specially loved fun and cool music videos (Zanelli, PARILA and Egorock were the ones I would watch the most, several times a day), but after like a month I started feeling Desperate for new stuff to watch (pictured below: a helpless vocaloid fan, completely unaware of the kind of world she just got herself into)
(the playlist has 206 songs right now but I keep forgetting to add new ones I find)

I actually knew Traffic Jam since like the start of 2021 I think! I remember when the proseka cover came out people were so excited so I decided to hear it and thought "wait omg this is that song that's so good" :) I listened to it often and I had also seen fanart of Flurry and Welter but I was never interested enough to look it up. I also happened to watch a bit of the video while listening to music on YT Music but even then I didn't care enough to actually watch it... I also watched a bit of Ironina before that! :) I remember thinking "oh this looks like the Traffic Jam artstyle" (I hadn't watched it but I often got it recommended on youtube so I had seen the thumbnail several times). I immediately fell in love with Ironina and watched that little bit several times because the characters' personalities were sooo good... Then I never thought about it again
UNTIL one day I was scrolling youtube, absolutely desperate for new cool flower songs as you saw in those screenshots... And Traffic Jam showed up. I remember thinking, "...well. I watched a bit of it and it was nice. And I know this one has lots of fans. Surely this one will do it..... This will fill the hole in my heart......."
It did :)
I watched Traffic Jam, then went into mr fruits' channel and watched Haine & Kleine, found out from the comments that both were from a series, tweeted "that's scary why is there a whole lore", later found Ironina as I was scrolling, thought "ohh my god it's That video"...
Some days after I was talking about vocaloid with a friend and she brought up Nilfruits and Ironina! I think a big part of why I became a fan from the start was because I talked about it with him and saw that others enjoyed the videos as well :)
Then the full proseka Traffic Jam cover came out and I watched it with my sister, I talked to her about the videos and characters, showed her some videos, she got even deeper into it than I was, my friends got into it as well... then some months after I saw that the fans on twitter were super nice and friendly and started talking with them :) (back then I didn't know more than 5 people LOL right now there's so many fans over there, it's great)

3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?
Hahaha what a way to start, I'm feeling hesitant to answer honestly bc I think these things are embarrassingly telling about who I am as a person, but alas it can't be helped. Whether I intend to or not, I always seem to find myself writing protagonists with something to hide, some part of themself that they feel is dangerous or hideous enough that it must be kept secret from the world--and they always end up feeling completely uprooted by, and then madly in love with, any character who is able to see past the facade and find them lovable and worthwhile anyway.
Also I write about naps a lot. I think napping together is just like the pinnacle of human connection.
7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?
God, I dunno, kind of....all of it? That sounds arrogant but idk, I don't really think of myself as a fanfic writer, I more write original fiction and then occasionally dabble in fanfic--which is incredibly frustrating because I've found it nearly impossible to get the kind of collaborative sharing/feedback back-and-forth for original stuff that you see with fanfic (and honestly it's rare to get that with fanfic these days anyway....)...... But all that's to say that when I do write fanfic I tend to build out the world a bit more than other writers do--sometimes parallel to the source material, sometimes tangentially instead--because I'm accustomed to building everything from scratch, and that's something that I think (hope? pray??) makes my work stand out to readers.
That said, right at this moment I think I'm feeling most fond toward the setting(s) of my Prospect (2018) fic, To Build Something New. The movie is entirely focused on a single location within a wider scifi universe, but my story takes place after the characters have left that location, and at the time of writing there was really very little info to go off of. There's quite a bit more floating around now, especially in the discord the creators of the film set up, but I'm really pleased with what I managed to come up with on my own. I think it feels really lived-in, which is always what I'm hoping for.
8. What song would make a great fic (to either write or read)?
This is so hard!!! Omg okay hang on... I do occasionally make up playlists for certain stories or characters, but those are almost exclusively based on vibes more than actual relevance so I'm not sure. Obviously just about anything by Hozier works, but everybody knows that so let's see if I can't pull out a couple of surprises, and hopefully get more people listening to these artists too....
I love love love Rachel Chinouriri, especially for my Coral Island fic Tideline. I actually almost named that story Riptide after her song by the same name lol, but ultimately I didn't think that quite fit with the cozy feel of the game or the fic. Whenever I listen to her song Mama's Boy I always think of Rafael and my oc, Mika: "I'll tell you all the things I fell in love with first, / the stains on your shirt, / your eyes, your nose, your mouth / but I'm waiting for that smile to come back around..."
Also I've been listening to a lot of Mannequin Pussy lately, everyone should listen to more Mannequin Pussy. I don't have anything to write from them yet but I think Who You Are especially has potential, "I have a chain I wear around my neck / I did not choose my life, and I won't choose my death / oh here we are now, stuck between the two / don't you waste it"

ehhh, writing at night is most convenient? i'll do it whenever the writing juices hit tho. i do like writing late into the night (like 12am-3am) because i can focus the best, but i can't stay up that late most nights u.u

i love comments! feedback less so. do not provide unless i ask. any improvements in writing style will come from me. providing unsolicited feedback is one of the fastest way to getting blocked.

but honestly, just write! you'll form your own style and process and it's the most organic way to begin writing. it'll teach you to write and pour your soul into it for YOU and not because you're trying to live up to anyone's expectations

ok so first of all I need to say that carlos is sooooo very vigilante coded already. all I did was see truth <3 (@dauntingday shares custody of vigilante carlos btw <;333) AND SECONDLY HERE'S THE PLAYLIST <33
this au incorporates my favorite headcanon that eddie and carlos are childhood besties btw <33 but basically they grew up together and were like Brothers and they were going to Change The World together!!! but then carlos' family moved to austin, and shannon got pregnant and eddie went off to war and they kind of. grew apart. but they both wanted to Change The World still!!!! so eddie became a firefighter in LA and carlos became a cop because they wanted to help people!! they grew up wanting to help people!!!! and carlos wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps!!! but it didn't take long for carlos to realize that the police force only helps the people on top. and the people who really need the help are the ones being oppressed and abused. and he hates that he's a part of it. he tries to stick to it because maybe he can change it, maybe he can be a good cop, but in the end he realizes that no matter how good of a cop he is, the system is still broken and there's nothing he can do from the inside to fix it. he needs to tear it down from the outside and still keep his soul intact. and so vigilante carlos is born <33
he purposely is using police colors but In His Own Way because his whole thing is that he's what the cops should be. yes visual symbolism is a thing of mine however could you tell??? his primary weapon is a collapsible bo staff, but he also has the generic vigilante arsenal (grappling hooks, throwing stars, smoke bombs, etc). the suit is primarily body armor similar to the stuff batman and co. use in the comics, and the cape is fireproof.
he takes the name sentinel (soldier imagery in MY carlos and eddie fic?????? more likely than you THINK) and primarily focuses on protecting the people over protecting assets and property. and he likes to fuck with the cops because he knows their procedures inside and out so he can fuck with them in a way that nobody else can <3 also as he gains more respect and admiration among the people, they begin to adopt his symbol as their own. the symbol of the people, as it were. kids spray painting the S on the alley walls, people scratching it into their walls with chalk, etc etc. I'm a slut for the superhero protecting his people and the people accepting him as theirs, ya know????
anyway the story proceeds fairly similarly as canon, except carlos has been operating as sentinel for at least a year BEFORE tk and owen moved to austin and put the 126 together. so he helps michelle investigate to find her sister, and grace is his oracle <333 she figured out he was sentinel fairly early and insisted on helping him. thus many late nights of grace and carlos poring over cases at the ryder kitchen table while judd played video games in the other room because grace and carlos' detective teamup arc in s3 was SOOO <3333333 she's on comms, and hacks into cameras and security systems to help him find people to help or people to hurt, depending on the situation. her codename is soteria (greek goddess of salvation, safety, and deliverance <333) tk and eddie also talk shop long-distance, and there's definitely a few instances of eddie talking carlos through removing a bullet late at night. and also eddie and carlos speaking spanish to each other. I'm right <3
he meets tk and the 126, and everything proceeds about as canon dictates, except sometime after putting the firehouse together owen retires and goes to live in the fucking. bahamas or something. idk where he is but he sure as hell isn't in austin anymore <3 before, carlos didn't really have anyone outside of his family to hide his secret identity from, since grace and michelle already knew, but now he has a new family to lie to, and he doesn't want to lie to this one. he and tk hook up and get together a la canon, but then a few months into their relationship tk finds out that carlos is, in fact, the vigilante running around austin all night. and of course there's some conflict there because tk's upset that carlos didn't tell him, and carlos is upset because he wanted to, but wasn't sure how, and also didn't want to bring tk into it anyway, and it's kind of a Whole Thing. but after they both have some space and cool off, they reconcile because I like miscommunication angst but only if it isn't dragged out super long. so there's a little angst but nothing huge. they're partners in crime your honor <333
SO. PARAMEDIC TK x VIGILANTE CARLOS. YOU CAN UNDERSTAND MY VISION CAN'T YOU <33333333 I have an UNGODLY amount of scenes where tk patches carlos up after patrol while they're both discussing the current case and bouncing ideas off each other. this is my very self indulgent au after all <333 at this point, most of the firehouse still doesn't know that carlos is a vigilante, with tk being the exception, and carlos doesn't want them to know because they'd gladly throw themselves into the field to keep him safe and he doesn't want them to do that!!! the entire reason he's doing this is to keep people safe and he doesn't want his friends to put themselves in danger for him!! but ofc they find out in the worst way possible because it's ME <3
carlos' primary villain is gonna be a pyrokinetic/serial bomber for a lot of reasons first of all so that tk can use his expertise to help solve the case and also because it's a sexy sexy trope to have an entire firehouse be up against the literal embodiment of evil fire <333 but sometime during this conflict, the bomber figures out carlos' secret identity and nearly kills him in an explosion, so tk rushes him to the one place he can trust: the firehouse. which is how the rest of the 126 finds out that carlos is sentinel because he's wearing the suit bleeding out from shrapnel wounds <3333333 tommy and nancy help tk patch him up, and after carlos regains some of his strength he and tk have to figure out their next move. so he tells the 126 to leave austin. go stay with relatives, go stay with friends, whatever they have to do that gets them out of the city. they're connected to carlos, which means they aren't safe anymore. and meanwhile carlos and tk are running to ground to figure out their next move against the bomber. and they go to the only person carlos trusts with this: his childhood best friend. cue the tarlos road trip from austin to LA and the scene where they're on eddie's doorstep and eddie just pulls carlos into a hug because they're BRUTHVERS ur honor.
the next phase of this arc takes place in LA as carlos recovers from his injuries and he, tk, and eddie try to plan out what to do next. and also uncle carlos playing with chris. I'm correct about that too
meanwhile, LA's own young vigilante is running around on patrol with a suit very clearly modeled after sentinel's, so after carlos heals enough, he goes out to meet her. and may grant wasn't expecting to meet the person who inspired her but she's very much happy to!!!! before meeting carlos her primary style was to hack into the phones and talk the bad guy down and lure him outside where she's waiting to Take Him Down (like she did in the most recent episode!!!!!) but then he teaches her how to do more detective/vigilante work. carlos mentoring may is what I'm saying. and they're both vigilantes. <3
may's suit btw <3 she looked at sentinel's suit and went "what if that had STYLE" and she was right <3 she modeled her color scheme after firefighters instead of cops, because she has so many incredible role models in her life who are also firefighters!!! her superhero name is peacemaker, which she modeled after her mom!!! may's entire persona as a superhero being inspired by both her parents is SO personal to me actually
anyway. carlos and may bestieship agenda <333
and ofc the good times can't last. because the bomber follows them to LA. and now it's sentinel + peacekeeper + a handful of the most batshit insane found family to ever exist + the most batshit boyfriend to ever exist against a bomber who can shoot fire out of his hands. also carlos and may working together to take down her first real supervillain <3<3<3<3
but ofc they take the bad guy down, and tarlos go back home to austin, but not before getting roped into Dinner With The Grants where athena pulled carlos aside and says "I appreciate you keeping my daughter safe out there but please for the love of god don't fucking DIE before we see each other again" and also carlos sparring with may that is ALL <33333

oh my god i would love to tell you more LMFAO
so i mean when i was like. A Child like legitimately like seven years old i was like.. obsessed with some of her bigger hits at the time (love story, bad blood, 22, etc. all of which i stand by being rly fun and good songs though i know her actual fans dont like them as much LOL). so when i like.. actually started developing a music taste beyond what my parents put on the radio in the car it was like right around when lover came out, which i listened to in full and REALLY REALLY liked tbh its still my third favorite album of hers.
but then for whatever reason i never fully listened to folklore or evermore when they came out (honestly i think because at the time i didnt appreciate more slow/chill/sad music i was more into faster "edgier" stuff but my music taste has. broadened since then) and then i didnt rly know what was happening when fearless and red tv released lmfao. and then once midnights was announced stuff about the album was like, ALL OVER all of my socials so i decided to try listening to it and again i found i actually pretty good (its still my fourth favorite album).
(god this is getting long sorry) so then i decided to just like fuck it go through and listen to all her albums, and i started ranking them mainly just bc i saw so many other people sharing their opinions about her albums i thought it sounded fun. i actually only finished this task this weekend because listening to new music is like. a LOT of effort for me but i finally did it lol, finishing off with fearless tv which i liked a LOT more than i thought i was going to tbh.
