8 Horror Comedies to Watch if You Need a Good Laugh:

In the spirit of April Fool’s Day, here’s a list (in no particular order) of some horror comedies that’ll make you laugh, cringe, and remind you that horror can be fun sometimes, even if it is cheesy.

1. Cabin in the Woods (2012)

It’s a simple plot; a group of five friends decide to spend their weekend in a remote cabin in the woods. It’s good to laugh at yourself sometimes, and that’s exactly what Cabin in the Woods does with horror. They take the classic horror tropes that people know and love, and they turn them into a transparent comedic horror movie. It’s a fun ride that I recommend you experience, even if you don’t really like the genre.

2. What We Do in the Shadows (2014)

Have you ever wanted to see a documentary about vampires? Well, here you are. Vampire roommates go in depth about the complicated lives they live and what sort of issues they face on a regular basis. It is truly everything you could hope for in a horror mockumentary — a must watch.

3. The Babysitter (2017)

Cole is a twelve-year-old kid who still has a babysitter, but he doesn’t really mind because the two of them have become quite close, and she’s also pretty nice to look at. But when his parents go away for the night, he finds out the real reason why his babysitter wanted to gain his trust all this time. It’s your classic teen horror movie, with some stupid-fun humour tacked onto it. Prepare to roll your eyes and be entertained.

4. Zombieland (2009)

Two months have passed since the zombie apocalypse started. Columbus, the main protagonist, meets up with three other people by accident, and they become one unlikely group of “friends.” Zombies, blood, guts, Twinkies, and Bill Murray. What more could you ask for? And don’t forget, the sequel is set to come out in October of this year!

5. Little Evil (2017)

After marrying Samantha, Gary soon discovers that her five-year-old son Lucas is not a normal kid. Eventually, with help of some friends, he realizes there might be something supernatural about the child. Watch as Gary tries to figure out what to do about the evil child taunting him in their home, without upsetting his new wife.

6. The Voices (2014)

A man named Jerry works at a bathtub factory, and generally enjoys his life, despite being schizophrenia, and refusing to take his medication because he enjoys having conversations with his pets. He eventually develops a crush on a coworker, and everything just goes downhill from there. It’s dark, and I mean… really dark. But, it’s also hilarious, so it’s fine! And Ryan Reynolds plays the main character. Need I say more?

7. The Final Girls (2015)

Max and her four friends decide to see a double feature of the slasher movies her mother starred in before she passed away. A fire ignites in the theatre, and the five of them make a break for it by tearing their way through the movie screen. The next thing they know, they’re in the movie. Now they need to try to survive the killer, and the cheesy teen-sceam writing.

8. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

A zombie apocalypse happens overnight, and Shaun and Ed don’t notice until long after they should have. Once they catch on, they set out to rescue Shaun’s parents, but end up rescuing more people than they wanted to. Watch as London becomes overturned by the living dead, while two less-than-qualified friends do their best to protect the people they care about. It’s a witty and fun take on your classic zombie movie.

As a little bonus, make sure you check out the trailer for the new horror comedy “The Dead Don’t Die” written and directed by Jim Jarmusch. In theaters June 14th!
