Since I’ve stopped using twitter and turned back to tumblr as my main platform, I want to go back to using this as some sort of blog/journal to keep track of some of my daily life thoughts! I’ll tag these as “.tricia thoughts” and keep them behind a readmore if anyone wants to mute or scroll past :D
-
I had no idea how easy it was to set up Stepmania, and I wish I’d done it a long time ago, because playing DDR again has been so nostalgic. I haven’t played it regularly in uhhhhhh 15 years? Since I lived with my parents at least, though I do recall playing it a bit in my first apartment back in 2010. The hardest part about playing PS2 DDR on modern TVs is the latency between a component cable to HDMI, which required making weird timing adjustments, and that was such a pain in the ass, that it became obsolete and we eventually stopped playing altogether.
The other issue came from the fact we weren’t living on the main floor anymore, which meant dealing with neighbors below us, and my anxiety ass was always worried about bothering people. (somehow Camden never dealt with that, even though she started playing on her own PS2 back in London living in a 5th floor flat lmao. Maybe that’s just the difference between growing up in apartments vs. houses.)
Either way, now that bridal season has slowed down for the winter, I’m only in the shop two days a week, which means I’m home for the other five days and doing jack all. Even then, sewing is a pretty sedentary job, so I’ve needed to find some way of getting regular exercise in for a LONG TIME. I was going to the gym for awhile when I had a membership through my apartment complex, but COVID and policy changes completely rekt that.
Anytime I wanted to check out Stepmania, I was held back by hurdles of expensive setups, wondering if it was even compatible with my computer, and basically other excuses disguised as “I wish....”
So finally I sat down and said FUCK IT I’M DOING THIS. I bought myself a cheap ass USB plastic pad that looks like it came straight out of 2002. I found a site that had stepcharts for literally every DDR song in existence. I loaded up a bunch of songs I remember enjoying back in the day.
and boy howdy it’s been a humbling experience.
I was far from the best player in my immediate friend circle, but played very comfortably at a medium-hard difficulty. Now, I’m lucky to play some of these songs harder than easy mode lol. That first entire week I was literally locked on novice, with a couple easy songs mixed in for some spice. But after playing for a month, I’ve been able to graduate to several medium songs, and even a couple heavy songs!!
My biggest limiter at the moment is the jump steps. I don’t feel comfortable doing jump-heavy songs until 1) I no longer have neighbors below me, and 2) I have a sturdier dance pad that won’t slip around, potentially with a back bar for support. Thankfully that first one will change within the year, and I promised myself if I can keep this up, I’ll invest in a professional dance pad which will fix the second issue.
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the materialistic side of hobbies, that FOMO mindset where if you don’t have the fancy tools, it’s not worth pursuing. I ran into that earlier this year when my old ass cintiq kicked the bucket. For six months I kept waffling on whether I should drop $800 on a tool I wasn’t even sure if I would use, when all I wanted to do was do digital art for fun. I ended up getting a regular mid-range huion and a second monitor for a fraction of that price, and I don’t even miss having a screen tablet anymore. I just wanted to draw, and holy shit I’m drawing!!
It’s not about the tool. It’s about the technique.
and I’m just happy to be drawing and dancing again.

my secret galaxy brain reading of spn s11 is better than yours
or: why season 11 is good actually. this is a long-ass meta, so it's going behind the cut
some disclaimers before we get going
absolutely all of this is accidental. nobody does this shit on purpose. this is ~my interpretation~ or whatever. i'm not actually trying to argue the writers meant to do this lol. what i'm saying is that this is the way to make season 11 make sense in your brain because it makes sense in mine and it's one of my FAVORITES. it could be one of your favorites too if you stop limiting yourself
there is heavy discussion of sexual violence in this meta so read safely etc also spoilers for all of s11 obviously
unless you watched the anime, i've seen more supernatural than you have, so i'm right >:)
for the uninitiated, the basic plot of season 11 is that eons and eons ago, before there was heaven or hell or earth or humans or angels, there was only god (chuck) and the darkness (amara). amara kept destroying what god made, so he and the archangels locked her away in a cage, which removing the mark of cain from dean's arm opened. amara escaped and dean was the first thing she saw, so she spends the season using some kind of thrall over him to make him feel drawn to her and unable to hurt her, and also looking for chuck so she can give him a little payback.
ALRIGHT HERE WE GO
season 11 & sexual violence
you don't need to look very far to find examples of sexualized violence and outright sexual violence on supernatural, but s11 is lousy with it. just to name a few examples:
amara's "thrall" on dean, which we will absolutely get into more later
crowley's jokes about altar boys and the tastes of catholic priests
ALLLLL the pedophile jokes made when crowley was raising baby amara
angels torturing cas and threatening to cut his genitals off, only to send in hannah (an angel who formerly had unrequited romantic/sexual feelings for him) to play good cop(/honeypot??) in hopes of making him talk
the return of lucifer, who possessed sam (spn has a history of equating possession and sexual violence) and is heavily implied to have raped sam in hell, and the MULTIPLE times he menaces sam throughout this season, including forcibly touching his soul
lucifer possessing castiel and using him to enact violence on the winchesters, his loved ones
i absolutely REFUSE to acknowledge the lucifer/crowley stuff but if you know you know
the episode with the kissing curse, using "love" as a means to deliver death
dean's possession in the soul eater episode
the "chitters" monsters involving mating, orgies, and forcible impregnation
you get the idea
i could write a whole essay on almost all of these but for this post we'll be sticking mostly to dean & amara
@marcusantonius pointed out while we were watching season 11 that what amara does to dean is basically speedrun his two major attachments - sam and castiel. she starts out as a baby, someone in need of protection, and quickly grows into an adult who attempts to romance/seduce him. the feelings dean has around amara aren't feelings FOR HER, they're feelings he has for SAM AND CAS that are being TRANSFERRED onto her through means of her power. (this is important for later.)
what amara does to dean is sexualized violence bordering on outright sexual assault. compelling him to feel drawn towards her and to protect her, frequently getting in his personal space and touching his face, and even kissing more than once when he is quite literally unable to resist (it's stated many times that he is unable to kill or even harm her, so he is completely helpless in the presence of someone who makes no secret of her intentions for him, sexual or otherwise).
dean says many times that what he feels for amara is not love or desire or attraction. he can't put a name to it at all - not once in the entire series is he able to properly define this thrall she has over him, which leaves us the audience a little confused (amara asking "what IS happening between us?" in 11.06 as a teenager making sexual advances on a grown man does give me a good laugh, because it was written SO WEIRDLY)... BUT we know that it is definitely sexual in nature, and not at all something dean wants to be happening.
this is addressed kind of strangely in 11.13. the villain of the week is a witch moonlighting as a hairdresser, who puts a kissing curse on her clients. the curse must be passed along like a hot potato - if you kiss someone else, it's passed along to them. if they kiss someone else, it's passed along to them. but eventually, a monster called a qareen will show up in the form of "your deepest desire" and kill you, and work its way backwards to the original curse-ee. in the episode, dean kisses the vic (i'll point out this was also technically done w/o her consent, though it was a very businesslike kiss) to put the curse on himself and protect her. the qareen takes the form of amara, and she gives Dean this little speech:
Qareen!Amara: You're a mystery. I can see inside your heart. Feel the love you feel. Except it's cloaked in shame. When it comes to this, you can’t help yourself, so why fight it? Just give in.
then, at the end of the episode, after dean reveals who the qareen was for him, we get this conversation between sam and dean:
Dean: You seriously think the sister of God is my deepest darkest desire? Sam: She isn't? Dean: No! She can’t be! Sam: Why not? Dean: Why? Because if she is that means that I'm… Sam: Means you're what? Complicit? Weak? Evil? Dean: For starters, yeah. Sam: Dean. Do you honestly think you ever had a choice in the matter? She's the sister of God, and for some reason she picked you and that sucks, but if you think I’m gonna blame you or judge you…I'm not.
the "shame" part of both of these is really what stuck out to me - the word itself isn't in the second passage, but dean's vibes are absolutely filled with shame. to me, this always read as being shame about the sexual violence and about the complicity/weakness that "allowed" that violence to happen.
and as a reminder, sam is just a few episodes past the confrontation with his own rapist (he returns to the cage to speak with lucifer in 11.09 & 11.10, and canonically struggles with what happened there even after the confrontation ends). sam made a point earlier in this episode of making sure the victim of the curse knew it wasn't her fault her husband died, but the fault of the witch who cast the curse. sam is VERY emotionally intelligent, and i honestly believe that he was speaking as one survivor of sexual violence to another here. what he's telling dean is something victims often need to be reminded of: it's not your fault. you weren't complicit, or weak. you didn't have a choice. you don't deserve blame or judgment.
we've had bad guys make sexual threats at both dean and sam many times before this and a few more times after, but as far as i can recall, this is the only conversation in the entire series that even attempts to address the impact of that particular kind of violence on dean. it's short, and strangely written, but nonetheless: there it is.
season 11 & the dean in the closet
for the purposes of this post, i'm not going to go through the entire series and find examples to try and prove dean is bi and has feelings for cas. if you don't believe that then what are you doing here? we're skipping to the goods.
actually, i always got annoyed at people who read the fake-amara's speech in 11.13 (or any of the other times people spoke about dean's shame regarding amara) as being about dean's sexuality, because in my mind it was ABSOLUTELY about his being a victim of sexual violence, which was far more important to me, as it is discussed far less often.
BUT, knowing what we know now (that cas was always canonically in love with dean, and it's all but canon that dean really was bisexual), i'm willing to entertain another notion:
Sam: ...you're what? Complicit? Weak? Evil? Dean: For starters, yeah.
the "evil" bit never really sat right with me as part of the narrative of sexual violence, aside from touching on dean's general self-loathing, but it fits the narrative of being closeted MUCH better. dean, a self-hating homophobic bisexual, would probably use a similar word, if not something heavy as "evil," to describe the way he feels about other men. it's a malevolent feeling. (if you're like me and ascribe to the jackles headcanon that dean resorted to turning tricks to make food money when he was underage, we could also consider the extremely fucked up fact that almost every queer man dean's ever met is someone who hurt him.)
dean is ashamed of who and what he is, and the way he feels about cas. living like that, that's violence. he lives violently day in and day out with that feeling. (and amara knows it. it's worth nothing that she uses cas to communicate with dean MULTIPLE times in this season, both by carving messages on his body and psychically, through his own connection to dean - and when dean "betrays" her to rescue casifer, she's horrified at whatever she sees in his head.)
equating sexual violence to the violence of being closeted
but what's amazing about this weird badly-written little 11.13 conversation (and indeed, the season-long plotline of dean and his shame) is that we don't HAVE to assign it to the purposes of being about sexual violence OR about being closeted. it can be and IS both.
my favorite reading of this is that BEING IN THE CLOSET IS INHERENTLY A VIOLENT AND TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE. many of the same feelings are involved: shame, guilt, self-loathing. sam's comforting words to dean - that he will not be blamed or judged - are equally applicable in both cases. dean is a victim of sexual violence, and he is also in the closet, and both of these experiences are traumatic ones, and they are intermingled with each other in a big way (again, if you're into dean-turned-tricks headcanon, they are intermingled INSEPERABLY - the sexual violence being one of the direct causes of dean not wanting to accept or address his own sexuality).
the bait-and-switch
the real galaxy brain moment of this whole thing begins at the end of 11.22 (an otherwise lackluster episode that played sam's lucifer trauma for laughs how dare they ugh god whatever that's off-topic but i HATE IT) when amara and chuck finally have the confrontation she's been fighting all season for. she is attacked by witches, demons, angels, and then stabbed by lucifer himself, before she's finally on her knees before chuck, and then we get this little exchange:
Chuck: I'm sorry. For this, for everything. Amara: An apology at last. What's sorry to me? I spent millions of years crammed into that cage alone and afraid...
maybe you already know where i'm going with this. a cage isn't so different from a closet when we're working with metaphors, right?
amara talks about her grievances with chuck many times throughout season 11 - that he was spoiled, that he created the earth to stroke his ego, that he couldn't handle her as she was. and once he finally makes his appearance he tells it his own way - that he had no choice but to lock amara away, that she couldn't stand the things and people he made, that he did it to protect people. but something about THIS conversation in particular - even though it's not written into the dialogue - gives me a particular kind of vibe.
there is something innately, unspeakably WRONG with amara. i don't mean unspeakable as in very bad, i mean unspeakable as in LITERALLY undefinable. it's just like dean being unable to put a name to the pull she has over him. no one talks directly at it or about it, they go in circles around it, but facts are facts: amara simply couldn't be allowed to exist as she was because there was just something innately wrong with her. and it's this conversation in particular, the first one they have together onscreen, that really slams that feeling home for me.
the entire time chuck and amara are talking, the camera repeatedly cuts to dean - he is so visibly upset that the first time i watched this, i was certain he was about to jump into the middle of things and put himself between the two of them. we're meant to believe that dean has trouble hearing this because he "cares" about amara, but i have a different take.
i think it's empathy. real, actual empathy - not the kind of feeling that amara had to force out.
stay with me here. eventually, after chuck tries to lock amara away again, she gets her second wind, attacks him, and leaves him for dead - and as he dies, the sun dies with him, and so too does all life on earth.
in the following episode, the finale, amara finds her way to a park, where she takes in god's creation, visibly upset as she realizes that his flowers die at her touch (again, hammering home the point that there is something innately wrong with her that means she cannot live in this world), and eventually speaks with an old lady feeding the birds.
Woman: Do you want to feed them? Amara: I shouldn't. Woman: I've been feeding these birds going on 20 years now. They're practically family. And I know that makes me sound like a crazy old bat, but...heck. My husband died a couple of years ago, and my son keeps slipping me these brochures for retirement communities - a.k.a. where they send old folks to die, but not to make a fuss about it. Amara: So you hate him. Woman: Well, a little bit. Sometimes. But you know family. Even when you hate them, you still love them.
this speech brings tears to amara's eyes. what's more, she spends this entire section with her hands in her lap. after a season of killing her way through humanity to get god's attention, she is afraid to touch these birds for fear of killing them. she feels empathy for them. she and dean are connected, after all - so as soon as he began to feel true, genuine empathy - so did she.
when dean shows up to kill amara (via a bomb made out of souls hidden in his chest), she immediately clocks his plan. she practically dares him to do it, and - he can't. he is, as always, helpless against her.
what dean does instead is talk to her. more importantly, he listens to her. when she says her brother sent dean here to execute her, he tells her chuck actually didn't want this - that it was actually his very last resort. he asks her if this, the death of everything, is what she wanted, and she tells him all she really wanted was payback. again, dean EMPATHIZES:
Dean: Yeah, that's revenge. It'll get you out of bed in the morning, and when you get it, it feels great... for about five minutes. I've been there. Me and Sam, we have had our fair share of fights—more than our share. But no matter how bad it got, we always made it right because we're family. I need him. He needs me. And when everything goes to crap, that's all you've got—family. Now you might be a—an all-powerful being...but I think you're human where it counts. You simply need your brother.
what's really neat about this section, and the scene before it where amara confronts her brother, is that they mark the first times dean felt any sort of genuine emotion for amara at all - one that she didn't force out of him or one that he felt for someone else that she just took for herself. dean genuinely EMPATHIZES with her - after everything she's done to him and his loved ones, and to the people on earth, dean sees the humanity in her. that's kind of his and sam's M.O., loving monsters into men - the number of non-human adversaries who eventually became allies because of the winchesters’ empathy or liking for them or even just their influence is staggering. cas, gabriel, meg, benny, crowley, rowena, metatron, to name a few off the top of my head - and now amara.
and then we get THIS:
Dean: You don't want to be alone. Not really. I mean, hell. Maybe that's why you wanted me. But deep down, you didn't really want me... 'cause I'm not him.
(emphasis mine)
and here's my galaxy brain take: dean empathizes with amara - TRULY empathizes with her - because they're both queer (or queer-coded).
I KNOW THIS SOUNDS NUTS BUT LISTEN. this weird creepy stalkery hetero "romance" was fake on both sides all along. dean and amara are the same. that unspeakable and innate wrongness lives in both of them. they're self-loathing and furious at god for his failures and callousness, outcasts in a world that isn't for them, a world that has HURT them simply on account of them being what they are. the violence done to amara was done to her BECAUSE of this unspeakable wrongness about her - her queerness, or her queer-codedness - and we already decided this was, for the purposes of this season, functionally the same violating and traumatic experience as sexual violence.
amara's been using dean to try and replace chuck this entire season. it's some weird comphet bullshit tied in with the fact that dean was the first part of chuck's creation she ever saw. it stands to reason then that she was trying to force dean to be with her and love her the way she wanted to force CHUCK to be with her. that's part of why she started life as a baby - as someone he'd protect as he did his own sibling.
so in some weird, warped, very roundabout way, amara was enacting on dean the violence that chuck enacted on her - making him feel the same shame and weakness that chuck made HER feel when he locked her away eons ago. if amara unknowingly replaced chuck with dean, then she also unknowingly took part of her revenge on him. the only way she knew how to love someone was to force them to do it, because the only ways she had ever been loved until now involved violence - until dean and his moment of genuine empathy.
consider this final speech:
Dean: Maybe I can kill you. Or maybe I can't. Maybe if I pull this trigger, we all live happily ever after, or maybe we die bloody, or maybe it doesn't matter, because maybe there's a different way. So I'm gonna ask you again. Put aside the rage. Put aside the hate. And you tell me...what do you want?
dean is the only person in BILLIONS of years to ask her this! one queer to another! and it turns out that and all she wanted - the ONLY thing she needed - was to be understood and accepted by her family. immediately after this, amara summons chuck to their park, and the two of them talk it out in what is genuinely a very moving scene. amara - perhaps because of her connection with dean, perhaps because she's finally admitted to herself that she does still love her brother - sees the beauty in the world now, and feels love for it, and she doesn't want to destroy it anymore.
and at the end, after she's made her peace with god, and the sun has been turned back on, amara says:
Amara: Dean, you gave me what I needed most. I want to do the same for you.
and what do we get at the end of this episode? mary winchester, risen from her grave. dean's family. and - SPOILERS FOR SEASON 12 - though at first mary rejects dean (and sam) as being the same children she remembers from 1983, after a long and rocky road, at the end of the season, they eventually come to a reconciliation where she sees them for who they truly are. it's never ABOUT being queer because this show uses the fucking hays code when it comes to dean's sexuality, but it's still about being queer!!
dean gave amara what she needed - acceptance from her family - and she gave him that back in turn. all it took, the entire time, was one SHRED of empathy from one queer to another. all dean had to do was recognize her - REALLY recognize her - not as a replacement for sam or cas but as who she really was. and he saw himself in her, and the empathy that followed was genuine because it was the most natural thing in the world. in the end neither dean nor amara needed the "romance" they thought they did/were forced to want. they never did. they only needed acceptance and understanding.
supernatural is always about family and the power of love, and this season is no exception.
other great parts of season 11
if you're still not convinced, season 11 is full of other things that make it amazing:
GOD'S RETURN. after SIX YEARS he's back, this is canon, we finally get to hear what he has to say. they did more with him in a handful of episodes in this season than all of season 15
also, something else returns after six years. i'll give you a hint: it glows hot in god's presence. it was last seen being dropped into a motel trash can.
and of course the big one: lucifer and sam. what great callbacks to seasons 4-6 when lucifer and what he did to sam in hell was actually scary and mattered a lot! lucifer returns to being scary in this and i can't get enough of it.
this is also inseparable from sam's arc involving his faith - he begins praying again, having visions again, and is GUTTED when those prayers and visions lead him back to the place of his worst trauma. he gets to MEET GOD this season. it's fucking insane
the inherent melodrama of castiel, someone loved and trusted by the winchesters, being possessed by someone who they hate and who has hurt them. you get all of the sam drama with him accidentally trusting lucifer with his soul and his brother's life, and all the dean drama where he watches the devil run around in his boyfriend. also, misha collins does an uncanny impression of mark pellegrino. it's actually really creepy
somehow, they managed to make metatron, a deeply hated villain by all, ACTUALLY LIKEABLE. for TWO whole episodes. it was NUTS
this season starts off rowena's long arc with lucifer and her lucifer trauma that eventually becomes the catalyst of her bonding so profoundly with sam <3 best friends forever <333
sam and dean bond with a pair of canonically gay hunters who DON'T DIE
billie is introduced in this season and she's super hot and cool and awesome
eileen is also introduced in this season. her arc mirrors sam's so well, it's SO good. i never though i'd care about sam and a girl who wasn't jess, but i care about them SO MUCH it makes me insane. if you don't love eileen you're wrong!
anyway, watch season 11. it's weird but it's really fucking good. THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY TED TALK

Replies: Really Long Post Edition
This took me slightly longer than I meant, sorry! I didn’t realize that the addon that adds pre-formatted text post replies doesn’t work anymore. As a result, I did this by hand, so please bear with me if there’s any inconsistencies or forgotten comments.
Post: I’ve finished the first rotation, prepared some...
@nigmos replied: your neighborhood looks really nice!!
Thank you! I can’t take credit for most of it, since I’m only responsible for the 5th gen, but I think it’s coming along really nicely :-)
@tamtam-go92 replied: Holy, 10 households, that's like a big commitment! Dx
It’s not too bad, I can get through a rotation within a few irl days. I hope to pare down the number of households for the sake of future players, though, since most people are busier than I.
@mikexx2 replied: I’m still not over Penelope having 8 kids because of an ROS prompt 😩
That’s what happened to the Ortiz family too...I think I’m content playing my gen sans-ROS for now 😳

Post: First things first, Idella leaves the main...
@elfpuddle replied: My ROS would apologize for the Ortiz home, but it’s a bitch.
Lol, no hard feelings. I think I’ll keep my distance from ROS for now, though. And triplets + quads, though I can’t say I’ve ever been tempted to install that one...

Post: Despite the romantic ambiance of Triumph Gas...
@grimbunnies replied: Like his grandmother before him, he has not chemistry with anyone and strikes out at the gas station XD
I guess it’s just as much of a family tradition as selling lemonade! Also, side note: I know Erinella typically keeps to herself, but I was shocked to discover that she’s got triple bolts with a townie that I was considering for Olivia...guess I’ll cross that one off the list.
Tumblr media
Post: Things are pretty uneventful until our dazzling...
@grimbunnies replied: It helps that this family probably isn't hurting for money now that we're on the fifth generation.
Not in the slightest. Even after Idella left with a good 110k in her pockets, the family is still loaded.

@mikexx2 replied: That blond would fit right into my townie pool!
I can upload her if you’d like!
@sushigal007 replied: How EA made Nina and Dina for TS4.
I don’t think the theory holds up: TS4 could never sculpt cheekbones this angular :-P

@lurking-lilibeth replied: She rocks that hair
@elfpuddle replied: She rocks all the hair I’ve seen her in! Love that sim!!
@charmandersims reblogged: Yes Judy - first sim I've seen to not look ridiculous with that hair 🤣
I was determined to use it on at least one townie. Judy rocks it, I agree!
Tumblr media
Post: Now that we’ve finished with the main household...
@elfpuddle reblogged: I’m hoping for a much happier life for him. My ROS was cruel.
Me too. I don’t intend to micromanage, but I hope to be a good influence on him :-) I’d assign that role to Sienna, but, well, you know her. Those Kellers are cold-blooded.
@simgigglegirl replied: Keep the details please! Helps people like me that can't always stay on track how this round robin is doing.
Noted! I’ll probably do a poll once I finish posting round 1 in order to gauge the general opinion on my formatting choices. I should probably start tagging by household, for one.
Tumblr media
Post: Ah, the Toyonaga/Winter household. Both Nicholas...
@elfpuddle reblogged: I gave them to you pregnant? Oh, goodness! This house suffered as much as Zach did in ROS. Again, I'd apologize, but it isn't my fault; dice hate me, and ROS is just a computer dice roll.
Yep, the pregnancy definitely wasn’t my doing. No need to apologize- though ROS wrought chaos on the neighborhood, the different situations it left everyone in helps to keep things interesting.
Tumblr media
Post: I’m feeling like a pretty incompetent player at...
@sterina-sims replied: I love this, lmao. This is the same energy my game has, utter chaos! Don't feel incompetent haha
Don’t worry, when I managed to recover every sim (even the pregnant one!) from deep red needs post-fire, I changed my mind about my competence. Now I’m the #1 world’s best sims player. Do they make trophies for that? (In all seriousness, utter chaos is my preferred playstyle too. I always chicken out when I think sims are going to die, though)
Tumblr media
Post: …the birth of Suzette Toyonaga! I intended to...
@elfpuddle reblogged: Just like Ash Huckleberry! I'm suddenly very jealous that I had no sims born during house disasters!
I can’t believe I didn’t draw that parallel! What’s next, a baby born during a burglary? An alien abduction?
Tumblr media
Post: Not long after, Camylla and Camyron age up to...
@elfpuddle reblogged: (I have a spreadsheet with all the traits in it, if you’d like…)
Thank you! I would, that’d be very helpful. I made space for traits in my own, but of course I forgot to do the whole “filling it out” part :-/

runaway bride part 2 🥺👉👈
YESH IT IS FINALLY HERE😊
I'm SO sorry this took so long I'm just really, really bad at keeping up with schedules (ask any of my regulars lol). But yes, its done. I also did some research in case any of you consider running away- but I'm in no way encouraging that.
Part 3 next, tag list below!
Yandere! Chrollo x Runaway!Bride PART TWO
Part One in Master list)
Y/n woke up, a hand to her chest as she looked around. The dreams were getting more and more vivid. No, there was no way she could have been caught so soon; she wouldn’t allow it.
Getting out of the sheets, a yawn escaped her lips, the brassy taste in her mouth from last nights alcohol strong.
It was officially the end of the 5th week since her grand departure, and far too long to stay in the tiny hotel room.
After getting rid of Chrollo’s ring and black cards, she pulled out her phone.
Carefully pulling out the sim card and opening the back, she took out the radio band and the Bluetooth receiver- it’d be too risky to install a security system, so this would have to do for now.
“I could have used a burn out phone...no, he could still track me then.”
Closing the device, Y/n turned off the phone, slipping it into her pocket.
For now, she was safe.
Saying her goodbyes to the city, she pulled her hoodie up, leaving everything behind.
***
“Uvo,pass me the screw driver please.”
“What for kid?”
“Chrollo asked to locate Y/n since his team is already out- I figured I’d make a sort of radio tower thing. “
“Can’t you use your Nen?”
“It doesn’t work like that. Knowing Y/n though, the radio tower probably won’t work.”
“Why’s that?”
Shalnark wiped grease off the metal, brows furrowing as he inspected his machine.
“She’s too smart to just not do anything. I doubt she didn’t already mess with her phone, and we can’t use Chrollo’s cards to track her cause when we found them, they were discarded in some random hotel roo- That’s it!”
“What’s it?”
Uvo took a sip of beer, leaning forward as Shalnark tossed aside the machine.
“Uvo, you’re basically a beast right?”
“So?”
Shalnark pointed to his nose, smiling.
“We can use the cards and the room to ‘sniff’ her out! All we need is someone with a really good nose!”
Uvo laughed before giving the boy a bone crushing hug.
Shalnark picked up his phone, calling the others.
***
“Hello?”
“Hey, boss! It’s Shalnark!”
“Any update?”
“Yeah! I ditched the radio tower thing. Do you still have those cards?”
“Of course. I’m still in the room.”
“Okay, so try not to touch anything. Better yet, get out of the room entirely. We can’t track Y/n with her phone, so me and Uvo thought smell would be better.”
“None of us have the nose to track her like a dog Shalnark.”
“Yes, but their should be someone who has a good nose or Nen for it. Of course, it would take forever to find said someone so why not make a contest?”
“With what prize?”
“Money!”
Chrollo smiled, the ring on his hand glinting in the sunlight.
Now he was one step closer.
Closer to his runaway bride.

“My Fairy Abogado” *Part 10*
Dammit I usually like to keep my stories around 10 chapters, but the whole ice cream banter was too good and the crescendo I want is way too long to not have it’s own chapter. Also, some Barisi thrown in there for ya. LoL.
I suppose it’ll be one more chapter and an epilogue? Maybe?

FINALE
-------------
After stitching you up, and after a long conversation convincing the nurse that Rafael had not done the number on your body, you two were finally leaving the ER.
“Alright buddy, you promised me ice cream,” You hung on Rafael’s arm as you walked out to the awaiting SUV.
“You really wanna get ice cream without the kids?” Rafael asked as he helped you into the backseat once again.
“Uh are you kidding? I don’t have to fight with them over what flavors they want, or if it’s too expensive and they have to share, and not worrying about Chloe getting it all over herself, doing ANYTHING in public without the kids is a luxury I miss the most,” You felt guilty about rambling about your siblings, but it was awesome being able to just vent.
“Alright Alright, I get it-- having kids sucks,” Rafael laughed.
“I mean don’t get me wrong; I love my brother and sisters. I’m just not...cut out to be a mother. Not right now, anyway,” You looked around the car awkwardly, kicking yourself for bringing up kids so soon.
“Yeah, I never really saw the point in kids,” Rafael chuckled.
“So you don’t want them, ever?” You were a bit taken aback. It shouldn’t be shocking to you really; Rafael was getting up there, and he seemed to like his things nice and tidy. He must’ve seen the look on your face because he quickly added--
“I mean….” He gulped. “I guess, with the right person…”
“You know for a lawyer, lying is not your strong suit,” You snickered.
You finally arrived at a nearby ice cream place; Rafael helped you out and you both walked inside while your copper stood outside.
“Doesn’t he want anything?” You nodded to the man.
“He’s fine,” Rafael replied, not even looking back at him.
“Hey guy, what’s your name?” You turned to talk to him.
“Carisi ma’am, Sonny Carisi,” He nodded at you.
“Sonny do you really not want any ice cream, or is Big Bad Barba being a tyrant?”
“I could go for a scoop,”
“See?” You smiled triumphantly.
“He’s like a puppy baby, you feed him once he’ll just keep coming around,” He nodded at Sonny. “Trust me, I know,” He rolled his eyes.
“You can get ice cream but you wait in the car Carisi,” He looked at him sternly.
“Copy that, counselor,” Sonny replied very seriously.
“Jesus Rafael, what is this guy your bitch or what?” You hit him softly.
“Oh no ma’am, I wanna be a lawyer just like Mr. Barba so I spend as much time with him as I can,” He looked at Barba with puppy dog eyes. “As a mentor,” He quickly added, looking at the ground.
“Oh um-- yeah okay, cool?” You smiled awkwardly at him, then noticed Rafael was getting very uncomfortable the more he talked.
“....Wait… feed him once...Rafael!” You whispered so Sonny wouldn’t hear you.
“ONE night, ONE time,” He rubbed the back of his neck looking around the place awkwardly.
“Mmmm...both sides, noted,” You winked.
“Sonny go ahead,” Barba nodded to the woman at the counter.
“What can I get you?” She smiled at the three of you.
“Two scoops of Rocky Road, please,” Sonny beamed.
“Um I’ll have a scoop of chocolate mint,” You decided.
“A scoop of vanilla for me,” Rafael added.
“Why is that not surprising to me?” You rolled your eyes.
“What? I have simple tastes,”
“Uh huh,”
Rafael paid and the three of you waited for your ice cream at the other end of the counter. Soon enough the woman handed out your ice creams and bid you a good day.
“Thanks Mr. Barba, I’m gonna go call Amanda and see what’s up at the station,” Sonny smiled and headed back outside with his ice cream.
“See? Now he has a new master,” Rafael chuckled.
“Yeah I doubt that-- you’re kind of hard to top, counselor,” You nudged him.
“He didn’t have any problem,” He smirked.
“OKAY, I think we’re good in the ghosts of sexual past portion of the evening,” You declared rather loudly as you sat in a booth near the door.
“Sorry Y/N, I didn’t know you were such a prude,” He smirked.
“I’m sorry if I don’t want to picture mi novio  being topped by a dude,” You rolled your eyes.
“Your boyfriend?” He asked in amusement.
“I mean...I did save your life, twice,” You pointed out.
“Mmmm true-- I suppose that’s girlfriend material,” Rafael nodded with a smile.
“Damn straight,” You nodded back, as you both continued to eat your ice cream in snarky matrimony.
“So, no kids, no pets?”
“I don’t have any currently, but I could see maybe getting a cat, or a small dog,”
“Oh my god could you be any more of an old lady?” You giggled.
“Hey! I live in an apartment in New York City, I don’t want some huge dog cooped up in it all day!” He defended. “That’s just cruel,”
“Fair point,” You licked your ice cream. “No kids I can live with, no pets is a deal breaker though,”
“Really now?” He raised his eyebrow as he ate his own ice cream. “Noted,”
“So do you have any?” You nibbled on your cone.
“What?”
“Deal breakers,” You replied in a “duh” tone.
“Just one,” He replied nonchalantly.
“What’s that?”
“If they’re not you,” He grinned.
“Oh gaaaaaaggggg,” You made gagging noises with a giggle. “Be more cheesy, please,”
“Okay okay, one deal breaker--”
“Go on,” You were on the edge of your seat.
“Wearing socks during sex,”
“Are you serious?” You cackled as you swallowed the rest of your cone.
“Yes! I am very serious,” Rafael nodded as he finished his cone. “Ask Carisi,”
“Oh God,” You shook your head with a laugh as you both walked back out to the car.
“Hey uh, Mr. Barba Amanda says they might need you down at the station,”
“Really? Now?” Rafael ask, annoyed.
“It’s what she said…” Sonny replied with a shrug.
“It’s fine, baby I need to go check on the kids anyway, they’re probably freaking out by now,”
“Yeah alright,” He sighed sadly.
Soon enough you were pulling back up behind your back door. Rafael helped you out of the car and just held you in his arms for a moment.
“You sure you’re ok?”
“Are you kidding? The Diablo’s are gone for good, I got a boyfriend AND ice cream!” you giggled, pulling him into a kiss.
“Boyfriend?” Beto’s voice bellowed.
“Ice cream?!” Chloe’s high voice chimed in.
You both turned suddenly to see all three kids standing at the back door slack jawed.
“Are the Diablo’s really gone?” Yaz asked, being the only one who hadn’t joined in yet.
“Yes, they are gone-- THANKS to Rafael,” You eyed Beto while Chloe took off for Rafael’s arms.
“¡Gracias, Rafael!!!” She squealed.
“De nada, princesa,” He kissed her cheek.
“...Did you really get ice cream without us?” Chloe looked at him with the saddest eyes.
“Blame your sister,” Rafael nodded at you.
“Y/N!!!!!” She yelled angrily.
“Gee thanks,”
“You insisted!”
“I got sh---a boo boo!!” You covered your tracks, causing your siblings to finally notice the shape you were in.
“Oh my God what happened to you?!”
“Diablo’s” You said softly.
“Because of HIM?” Beto clenched his fists.
“NO, Rafael saved me Beto,”
“Actually, to be honest Beto” He put a shoulder on Beto’s shoulder “She saved me.”
“We saved each other,” You laid your head on his shoulder.
“Gag,” Yaz made gagging noises behind you.
“Anyway, Rafael is leaving now BUT-- maybe if you guys do all your homework and eat all your dinner AND go to bed early, we’ll see if you can convince him to take you to get some tomorrow,”
“Really?!” Chloe exclaimed excitedly. “I’m gonna go do all of it RIGHT NOW,” She gave Rafael one more hug and ran inside.
“Chloe’s easy to buy off vato-- me, not so much,” Beto approached Rafael.
“I’d be careful Beto, he used to be a Chico Grande,” You warned with a sly smile.
“Wha-- seriously?” Beto’s eyes widened. “No way….tu suaves,”
“Oh really, too soft? You wanna go, ese?” Rafael licked his lips, playing into Beto’s game.
“BOYS,” You stepped in between them.
“You, go do your homework,” You looked at Beto, then turned to Rafael, “And you-- stop picking on my little brother,”
“He started it!”
“esto no ha terminado, vato,” Beto warned, making the “I’m watching you” sign as he walked back inside with Yaz who just rolled her eyes. As soon as they were gone you turned and slapped Rafael across the chest.
“What?! What did I do?” He threw his hands up innocently.
“You’re ridiculous, you know that?” You wrapped your arms around his neck.
“And you love it,” He smirked.
“God help me, I do,” You shook your head as he pulled you into a deep kiss.
“Te amo, mi angel,” He whispered as he stroked your hair.
“Yo también te quiero, Rafa,” You stared lovingly into his beautiful green eyes. He gave you one last kiss and hopped in the front of the SUV. Sonny waved goodbye to you as they drove off and you headed inside.
------
The next few weeks went by pretty uneventful. You decided to rip out the booths that had the bullet holes behind them and put in a stage, starting Karaoke Nights every Friday night. It was a great money maker to your surprise, since it had been Ash’s idea. She was a pretty good business woman, you wondered how much Rafael had rubbed off on her over the years.
One Friday night, Ash was getting ready to host the usual Karaoke Party, when Rafael came through the front door. He was casually dressed, in his jeans and t-shirt with the leather jacket. He had learned very quickly that you much preferred him in paisano, plus he didn’t look like he had taken a wrong turn at 5th avenue. This was the first Friday he was able to make, and when he had come and seen you over the past few weeks Ash had found ways to avoid him. Tonight though, she was right up front when he walked in.
“Ash...can we talk?” He gestured to the side.
“Go ahead, start talking,” She gestured, indicating she wasn’t going anywhere.
“Ash I’m sorry I didn’t tell you the whole story behind the money I gave you,” He put his hand out. “I should have been honest with you right up front but, you were SO young,”
“Yeah….I get it,” She reluctantly took his hand in return. “You did get rid of the Diablo’s, I guess that gets you some points,”
“Well I brought you something,” He pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Ashtawnja. She took it and unfolded the paper, her eyes grew wide.
“Really? You still want me to have this? Even after I yelled at you?”
“Yeah, but it’s not guilt money anymore,” He nodded at the check. “Look at the ‘reason’ line,”
“Creo en ti” She read with tears in her eyes. “Do you really? Believe in me?”
“Si, Claro,” He smiled, pulling her into a hug. “Of course I do,”. Pulling back from the hug, Rafael felt his phone going off in his pocket.
“Barba,” He answered, listening to the other person. He nodded as they went on, then his eyes began to brighten. “Really?! Are you sure? What time?” He looked over at Ash who just looked at him in confusion, the more excited he became the more she was confused.
“Right right, yeah I’m on my way!” He hung up the phone and hugged Ash.
“Whoa whoa whoa there abogado, you know I hate mushy gushy,” She pushed him off with a laugh.
“Right,” He smiled.
“So who was that?”
“Oh right--- tell Y/N I had to go, I’ll call her later I swear!!” He told her as he ran out the door, just as you were walking up.
“Was that Rafael?” You asked.
“Yeah, he got a phone call and ran out of here, said he’d call you later,”
“Wha--Why?” You looked out the window but Rafael was long gone.
“I don’t know, but he was pretty happy,” She shrugged, putting her check into her pocket.
Who had called him and why was he so happy about it??5

The Treatment of Capt. Syverson-Chapter One: Evaluation
Pairing: Captain “Sy” Syverson x OFC (Shane Benton)
Shane Benton gets a new patient, veteran “Sy” Syverson. He’s one of the most complex cases she’s had, in more ways than one. She thinks he’s already starting to like her and what’s worse...she feels the same.
Word Count: 2.3k
Warnings: None, really, mentions of war and trauma and some hate on the Chicago Cubs, but like…it’s not MEAN! (I’m a Missouri girl, and for the purposes of this fic, Sy is a Missouri boy, and we will bleed for our sports teams. Lol!)
A/N: Inspired by this post right here, and hopefully turning into some splendid fluffy and smutty stuff for my lovely Cavillry babes all around including the two that essentially forced me into this. Lol! (I’m thinking I’ll have at least three or four more chapters.
Disclaimer: Unfortunately for me, Henry is not mine, le sigh, and all mention of him, his characters, or his precious doggy, Kal, are strictly for transformative and recreational use. I neither ask for, nor accept payment for the work I post on Tumblr or AO3.
Tags: @onlyhenrys @cavillryarchive
Let me know if you wish to be added to the list! I’m happy to do it!
Shane was working on her morning's notes as she scarfed down her lunch. So many hand's-on patients made for a busy so called "lunch hour." Time which their boss was always reminded them was only half for their personal use, and could be taken away if census demanded. She was pretty sure it wasn't legal to make such threats, but thankfully, the secretaries usually had the therapists backs.
As she typed, she got a notification in her messenger app.
Just a head's up, your 1:30 is such a major babe I could barely look at him while I checked him in, so good luck with that.
Heather, one of her best friends in the office, had warned her, as she always did when there was a potential problem with a patient.
Oh, and his KOOS score is 27.5! Yikes! Shit, she'd seen arthritic grandparents with better scores on that test, which essentially rated your ability with the affected knee. Ideal was 100. She pulled up his chart review to see what she was getting herself into with this guy.
Tricare insurance, so, a vet. And only a year older than she was, so, recent discharge, or even active duty. She pulled up his order…shit. Traumatic tear of the anterior cruciate ligament. With damage to the medial collateral ligament as well. And a patellar dislocation. Repairs had been done, but this guy was in bad shape. He was going to be coming a while.
She replied to Heather.
Damn, that's bad. I'm looking at his order, and I'm already thinking I'm gonna want to try to keep him on my schedule if we can. And three times a week. If not with me, Jordan, if he's got openings. Can you start working on that when you have time?
Sure thing…I think you'll be glad you kept him on your caseload once you get a look at his face…and like all of him. Even on crutches, he's tall as shit!
Heather, come on. I'm a professional. I have a doctorate ffs. Lol
You also have a uterus, to the best of my knowledge, and it's about to explode. Promise.
Haha, okay. I'll be out for Prince Charming in about ten. Lemme pop a breath mint and run a brush through my hair.
Good call.
Shane did just that, but still pulled her dark hair back into her customary functional high ponytail, made sure there was no stray food on her shirt, and headed out of her treatment room for her patient.
As she walked down the hall to the waiting area to get him, she noticed a slumped and bearded figure leaning forward on a set of crutches, a KC Chiefs baseball cap slipping up off of his forehead revealing short cropped dark hair. She smiled at his repping one of her home teams, and stepped up to him, greeting him warmly, but formally.
"Mr. Syverson?"
"Ma'am." he said, as he adjusted his cap and stood immediately at attention, still relying on the crutches, but making himself as tall as possible. He really was a soldier. Despite her proximity to Fort Leonard Wood here in St. Robert, Missouri, she didn't see many military men.
"Hi, My name is Shane. I'm a physical therapist. I'm going to be working with you today."
"Oh, okay. They told me my therapists name was Shane, I figured…"
"Yeah, I get that a lot. Don't worry, I act like one of the guys. You'll hardly notice."
"I doubt that." he muttered, but she ignored it. She didn't know which would be worse. Him being a macho chauvinist who couldn't deal with a female therapist, or having a crush on her and making things weird. She'd had both. And it never ended well for her.
"Well, let's go have a chat in the treatment room."
They walked toward the room she'd just left, and when they arrived, she asked him to set on her plinth mat.
"Could you please verify your date of birth for me? Gotta make sure I got the right patient in here."
"May the 5th, 1983."
"Thanks, and the last four of your social?"
He told her, quietly, and against her will, a shiver ran up her spine at the softness the bear of a man exhibited in his voice when trying to maintain privacy. But she kept her composure.
"Excellent." she began typing her eval note, and asking him questions. He began telling the harrowing story of the mission, the mission that effectively ended his career in the military as he knew it. At lest, what he could tell her. Obviously some of it was classified, but certain details she would need to know in order to know how he it and how to treat him. She could tell he was trying to hold it together. Reliving the trauma was probably triggering to an extent. Her heart went out for the broad-chested, blue-eyed man.
"God, that's incredible. The fact that you're alive is amazing, Mr. Syverson."
"I go by Sy, ma'am. And as aware as I am of that, it's tough to feel good about it when some friends in my squad weren't so lucky." he examined the pattern on the tile floor as he rubbed the heel of his hand against the wide thigh of his injured leg. A nervous habit, she presumed. She had similar quirks.
"That must be difficult for you." she knew she was getting off-track from what she needed for her SOAP note, but after all, he was going to be on her caseload exclusively for the foreseeable future. She'd have time to flesh out the goals and basically finish the eval next visit.
"Yeah, but I know there's a lotta guys' got it worse'n me, ma'am."
"We think that should make it better, but it never does. And if I'm calling you 'Sy,' you have to cut the ma'am business. It's Shane, even to my patients." she smiled.
"Sorry, m--sorry. Habits die hard."
"Just like John McClean." she chuckled, not expecting him to get her ridiculous movie humor. But he laughed.
"Did you just make a Die Hard reference?" he smiled, and the sunshine of it paired with the stunning blue of his eyes nearly sent her flying into the wall. Thankfully, she had something to occupy her gaze in the form of her laptop, where she tried to document on him.
"Did you just get one of my movie references? Because nobody around here appreciates that I'm a total movie nerd. I'm wasted on these people."
"Ya know, maybe you're right about feeling like I'm getting PT from a guy." he chuckled.
"I told ya!" she laughed, but tried not to let her heart sink too far.
The evaluation continued with her doing strength and range of motion measurements on his knee. "Okay, push against my hand…now resist when I push…now bring your foot back against my hand…and resist when I pull." she did this with both sides to compare relative strength. "Great job. Okay, I'm going to see how much range you have in your knee. Lay back on the table for me, please." she thought she saw a flirty glint in his eye, but again, she ignored it. She had a job to do. And it was to hold this goniometer up to his knee and see how many degrees of flexion and extension this man had in the joint while trying not to think any salacious thoughts about the thigh connected to it.
"Okay, now, listen, Sy, I know it goes against your instinct, but I'm looking for pain-free range of motion, here, so don't be a hero. Don't move it farther than you can without hurting it. And let me know if it starts to hurt when I move it."
"Yes, ma'am." he winked.
"I'll let that one slide, I guess." she giggled. She concentrated on the numbers she was getting from the big protractor, and typing them into her eval, and not the man lying before her.
"Okay, I'm gonna get the other knee now to compare for goals."
He nodded.
"Were you pretty active before this happened?" she was more or less making small talk, as she could tell by the condition of the rest of his body that he was incredibly fit.
"Yes, m--yes, I was. We had a gym on base, nothin' like what y'all have here, just some machines and a few free weights."
"No bikes or treadmills or anything?" She herself liked the elliptical, but knew it was a considered more of a girl's machine in the gym world.
"Nah, with electric being spotty where we were stationed, we sorta had to…get creative, I guess you could say, for cardio." she let it slide, apparently there was an inside joke to which she wasn't privy.
"Right, understandable. Well, here, we don't have to get that creative. I'm gonna put you on some equipment gradually, and just warm up the knee, then get to work on joint mobilization and myofascial release. But at this point in Dr. Potter's protocol, he only wants gentle stretching and weight bearing as tolerated. We can start a bit of strengthening after next week."
"So, you think I'll be back to running anytime soon?"
"We can make that a goal, Sy, because I can absolutely get you there. But you're going to have to take it slow. You've got not one, but three major injuries we have to contend with, and there is major trauma in there. But it will heal. With time and effort. And like I said, don't be a hero. The number one rule of therapy is 'if it hurts, don't do it.'"
"I'll hold you to that, m--Shane."
"You're a quick study, Sy. I think you'll be alright. Looks like Heather's put some appointments in for you already. If any of them don't work, call us, and we'll try to get them swapped. I'd like to keep you on my schedule as much as possible, but if there's a conflict in your schedule, any of our therapists will be terrific. And I'll make sure they're looking at your chart and protocol thoroughly before seeing you."
"Sounds like a plan to me."
"Okay, I'm gonna print out your schedule for you, and a few exercise handouts I'd like you to work on, especially on days you don't come here. And I'll know if you don't do them, because you won't have improved…so, you better do them."
"Yes, ma'am." she half expected a salute. She rolled her eyes.
"Okay, maybe I'll give you three strikes on the ma'am thing."
"Baseball fan, too?"
"Not that three strikes is so obscure that I'd have to be to know it, but, yes! Major St. Louis Cardinals fan."
"I knew I was gonna like you from the start. Although, being brought up 'round Kansas City m'self, I'm more of a Royals fan."
"Hey, only time I don't root for KC is when they're playing my Redbirds. And even if my team loses to them, it hurts less than if they lose to, say…the Cubs." they shared a scowl of disdain for the Chicago team. "Although, I was happy for them and their fans when they won the series back in 16."
"Yeah, I guess we could afford to let them win one in a hundred years…I'm hoping their next one comes long after I'm in the ground." he chuckled.
"Can't have them getting a big head, can we?"
"Nope! Sure can't!" they both laughed at their mutual interest in dissing rival sports teams.
"Okay, I'll be right back with those handouts." she ran to the office all in one machine to grab the papers she'd printed for him, making sure they were all his and not another patient's. She put them in one of their folders and headed back to her room where he sat on the mat, waiting for her with a smile under his rather impressive beard.
"Before I let you out of here, what questions can I answer for you about what we did today?"
"Oh, uh, nothing comes to mind. You explained everything really well. Did you look at my schedule? Am I with you all the time?"
"Hmm, let's see here, looks like the next two, yes, but I'm off next week, so Heather put you with Jordan, which is what I asked her to do. You two will work great together and he's got a great instinct for injuries like this. And I'll talk to him before I leave. He's one of the best PTAs I've ever worked with, I promise."
"I guess, if you have to take a vacation. I'll see you next time though."
"I'm looking forward to it. That's when the real work will begin, Sy. And our number is on in this paperwork if you have questions, and I've put my card in here, too." they shook hands, and he grabbed the folder from her.
She saw him out of the room and into the lobby. She'd finished with him a bit early, but her next one was already waiting. She needed a break. To collect herself. To breathe.
"Jason! Hey! Go on and get on the recumbent bike, level two. Ride until I get there. We'll get a lot done today if you're already warmed up. I've got a note to finish. And then I'll be in. I should be 15 or less."
While the 19 year old with a torn meniscus hopped to her instructions, she went back to her computer to attempt to finish Sy's eval and pretend that she didn't already have a serious and intense crush on him. This was going to be a long twelve weeks…at least.

extra long tag game (seriously, it’s very long)
Tumblr media

tagging: @acethetiques, @bloomingjun, @txtdream, @bulgo-gyu...(i’m honestly so lazy so if you want to do this, go ahead! feel free to ignore if you were tagged)
ONE
tell me the first song that made you stan your current fave group and why did your faves attract you so much?
side effects! (oops this is a txt blog) but i’m pretty sure this is what made me want to stan skz! the song is very experimental, as it’s psychedelic edm (i believe), but i liked it a lot after a few listens. i was totally obsessed with the choreography as well, because the whole thing is just...art. they attracted me because their style of music was different than what i had seen before, and on top of being extremely talented and creative people, they were also super funny and caring.
another group that comes really close to being my favs is day6 (and i cannot even begin to describe my infatuation with this group). i listened to “shoot me” and “sweet chaos” and BAM that’s all it took to drag me into stanning this group. i’m not familiar with the inside jokes and all that, but i just love listening to their music! there is not a single bad song in their entire discography! i also have the largest heart eyes for young k’s “young one” project covers and eaJ’s original songs.

favourite song right now?
darn i don’t have one 😳 but i like listening to “ribs” by lorde
something that you’ve always wanted to learn?
how to make macarons, how to make/compose music, the korean language
tell a funny story about yourself (or just something that you’ve witnessed)
i can’t think of something off the top of my head :( (i promise my life isn’t that boring but my brain isn’t conjuring up anything helpful)
headphones or speakers? why?
headphones when i want to listen to music by myself/with a friend, speakers when i want to share music openly
craving any food right now? what are you craving?
banh mi and 🍅 (even though i just had a bowl of them...sorry beomgyu)
+ also this coconut that i’m trying to open? but it’s not cooperating with me 😔
which music streaming platform do you prefer? why?
spotify, it’s unproblematic for the most part
ten questions (by eri, answered)

kimi no nawa! i’ve watched that movie 3 times already and it’s a great movie so i wouldn’t mind watching it again :)
8. biggest pet peeve?
dirt encrusted fingernails >:(
9. earliest childhood memory?
i’m not sure :( my memory is just a jumble of things from my childhood
10. as a child, what did you want to be? what about now?
i wanted to be anything and everything...one day i would be like “i’m going to be a doctor” and the next i would be like “nvm i want to be a magician” and as for now, i’m actually not sure because i’m interesting in many fields, including areas in both sciences and humanities.

So after 110 hours, I finally beat Persona 5 Royal. Before going into complete FFVII mode, I wanna lay out all my thoughts.
Blah, blah, blah, spoilers for everything under the cut.
To start off, I loved Royal. The gameplay was so much fun and it felt like such a natural evolution from vanilla P5. Probably my favorite change was what wad done with Baton Pass. Trying to pass to your entire party was very fun and very satisfying, especially if Joker got the ×4 or even ×3 and got to abuse a possibly charged Hassou Tobi lategame. It was pretty broken, but I don't mind things being broken once you go to the effort of figuring things out. Speaking of broken things—
Showtime attacks are super cool. I didn't know what to think of them at first because of how stupidly strong they are, but after I got to some harder boss fights where doing about 1k damage per attack would only get rid of about a small fraction of the shadow's health, I wasn't complaining.
(Also, I never actually got to see Joker and Violet's showtime. Oops.)
The fact that the damage scaled like that was really good, especially once you get into the third semester where party members have severe and colossal damage moves and even healer Morgana can do 150 damage per basic attack without buffs on an enemy without debuffs. The enemies' damage output remained kind of sad though, but uh....you can't win 'em all ;;
To finish showtime talk, Joker and Crow's showtime was heccin' great. I never skipped it. It was Batman in my animu JRPG so it was 10/10. It also did way more damage than most of my party members' showtime attacks so ey. It finished off that Yoshitsune request boss too with around 2.4k damage so I'm obligated to like it. On that note, how is showtime damage calculated? Do certain showtimes do more damage, or does it just depend on the offensive stats of the party members using it?
Technical damage was beefed up too, and I probably should have tried to take advantage of it more than I did but I never figured out how to make technical damage reliably knock an enemy down. I know that there was a way to do it but I never figured it out. Yes, yes, I know it was because I skipped tutorials but everything else was so busted, I never felt the need to go back and read said tutorials. I did read that book about technical damage though in-game, but it just added more technical combinations.
Onto other changes though, it could have been because I was playing on hard, but status ailments became about 10 times more useful. ...Actually, no, it was definitely because I was playing on hard, but even so, I felt like more bosses were weak to them when compared to P5. They went back to being mostly immune to them, especially in the new semester, but during and before October or so, status ailments became invaluable. It could have been because I sucked that much, but my party members, and even sometimes Joker, would get left with double or even single digit HP by near everything, even if I debuffed and buffed. Queen got regulated to a forget bot, but man it carried me through some boss fights. ... i.e., Kaneshiro's fight. Well, that and Mona's confuse.
I liked the Will Seeds too. They were a fun way to kind of change up the palaces and for me to hunt down. Even though yeah, they are pretty broken (especially with the accessory you get from the 2nd palace being able to get rid of elemental weaknesses for whoever has it equipped, not to mention the ability to give charge or concentrate to another party member), I still can't say I used them over my SP adhesives most of the time. I used the one that got rid of elemental weaknesses on Crow, but that was just because I could only use him and Joker at the time and did not want enemies to get another move on him to get another chance to hit either of them.
The changes to Mementos were amazing. Like the rest of them, they were pretty busted, but still. Amazing. I feel like I'm in the minority with this, but I didn't mind Mementos. In fact, I kind of liked going through the grind of going through it. Although...tbf, I kind of liked Tartarus too. Its 264 floors were a bit much, but I liked being able to turn off my brain, put on a podcast or YouTube video in the background for me to listen to then go through Tartarus in one or two in-game nights.
Back to Mementos, collecting stamps and flowers for Jose was fun, and being able to change the cognition for Mementos was busted. Since you can get EXP from auto-killing, you get over-leveled very fast. It doesn't help that you have to backtrack floors for stamps since they randomly generate, so you get even more money, experience, and items. On the bright side though, no, I didn't need to wander around singing "I've Been Working on the Railroad" with Mona and Skull for an hour and a half trying to find the materials for the Eternal Lockpick (which was renamed in Royal to Permapick ... I guess???)
Because of the changes you can make to boost item, money, and EXP gains, Mementos became the prime grinding area. Even more than the card shuffle thing in P3. Since you got so much EXP from ramming shadows even without leveling up EXP gain. I put all my stamps into getting more items and money until I couldn't anymore and I had near max every single crafting item, and never had to worry about the cost of anything ever. Combined with the money gains from killing shadows, you can also pick up sellable treasure from the item cubes in Mementos and it can end up selling for well over a million yen. So getting to max didn't even require Joker abusing the confuse status ailment or abusing the shadows with "You can do better than that."
I didn't mind the Mementos music, even when I was playing the game without something else playing for me to listen to, but now that Mementos does have new music, yeah, I realize now how much better it is. I wouldn't listen to it alone like I would Rivers in the Desert or anything, but it was a nice change. I listened to one of the songs before the game had its western release and didn't like it all that much, but actually playing the game while hearing it made me actually like it.
I got to level 99 though before the game was over. It made it so Joker and Crow were able to tag-team the Reaper then kill it in 3 turns. I had thought that trophy would have been a lot harder to get lol. It was pretty weird seeing the Reaper in such clear lighting though due to the new Mementos area though, I have to say.
Onto the bosses though...
I loved the changes to the bosses (except the 5th one but that's just because I hate everything about the 5th palace, even if Royal did make it about a million times more bearable).
Kameshida having cognitive Shiho and Mishima as helpers for the boss fight was such a good change, and made him about that much more hateable.
Madarame's boss fight in vanilla P5 was the hardest boss in the game for me, even on normal mode, but it was made so much easier in P5R. Madarame didn't bring back his painting form, but instead brought back elemental versions of himself specifically so the player can abuse Baton Pass. Baton Pass combos are extremely satisfying to pull off, so I enjoyed it immensely. Honestly, having that as the second boss in the game was so much of a better decision than what was in P5. That, or I'm still salty about all the deaths I had from fighting him the first time.
Kaneshiro was definitely harder, and I was a little stuck when he called his cronies out to guard him. Mona and Queen using confuse and forget while Skull and Joker attacked Kaneshiro made it a lot more bearable though. I also kept using spotlights on Joker so the enemies would attack him. He had Shiki Ouji equipped and they only ever did physical moves when my status effects missed, so I was never at risk for losing the fight. ... And then of course Skull and Queen finished it off with a showtime attack after Mona got yeeted.
Sphinx mom was a lot easier. I didn't know that the right dialogue choices made it so Oracle would guard you until someone told me, so I was sitting there surprised at how much easier it was lol. I did get stuck at the end though because it didn't look like I was damaging it. I thought Oracle needed to bring back the crossbow so I just kept buffing and healing. It took about 10 minutes for me to get bored and start attacking it again and it turned out I could attack it, but it was just that sphinx mom's HP wasn't visually moving before eventually going down. Joker still used Shiki Ouji which had learned an immunity to wind so. Easy victory (ignoring the part where I'm a dumbass).
I switched to easy mode for Okumura. I just did not care at all. I hate his palace, I hate the music, and the enemies could range from being easier to kill than the enemies in the first palace to being a pain in the ass, so I wanted to have it be over. If I didn't have an unreasonable hatred for the 5th palace though, I probably would have liked the change. It was challenging without being complete BS, at least much more challenging than how it was originally in P5. Having the enemies run off though did get pretty annoying when I was trying to beat it legit but I was just so done at that point, it was more on me than the game lol.
Part of the reason why I was so eager to get through Okumura's palace though was to get to Sae's palace. Because I love Sae's palace, and just in general, the entire month of November. It has amazing story bits, still the height of P5's story if you ask me, a great palace, and Whims of Fate is one of my favorite tracks from P5's OST. Sae's boss was even changed to when she spins the wheel, whatever element it goes to, she uses that element and her resistances would change. I loved that, and it was extremely fun to take what you more or less should have learned about enemies' attacks and their correlating weaknesses and use them for a boss fight. So much better than the original where you don't need strategy at all other than "hit her hard lol."
Shido's boss fight was changed to be super climactic. They made it easier for the sake of Joker being able to confront the dude that got him a criminal record and directly ruining his life, and I can't complain. It felt amazing to 1v1 him. The game fixed the possibility of being screwed by it by having him attack in a certain order like the twins do in their special fight, so that was nice at least.
Yaldabaoth's boss fight was the same. Still easy enough, as long as you're careful. Or...not careful but extremely lucky. I wasn't able to finish it off while it was charging up its almighty attack, but my entire party ended up dodging it so it didn't even matter lmao. Now that I think about it, it very easily could have been because of that one Will Seed accessory that makes you dodge attacks but... I don't care. I was still super lucky I didn't get wiped and be forced to start the fight over starting from the Holy Grail.
The new boss... Uhm... It was taking way too long so I ended up cheesing it with Haru's third persona's new move that basically makes you invincible for a turn halfway through the fight. ^^; Noir was a Vault Guardian bot, Queen just healed and took advantage of one of the tentscles' nuclear weaknesses to Baton Pass to Crow when she could, and then Joker and Crow did all the work. Crow's third tier persona's almighty move kicked ass and you know what else kicked ass? Hassou Tobi abuse. The other 2 phases weren't even really fights, so at least that kept it from dragging too much, despite all the phases it had.
When Joker and the boss had that punch-out fight though, I lost my shit. I was laughing so hard I started to cry and my back was hurting. I don't even remember why I thought it was so funny, but I was laughing my ass off. I couldn't even press X to get Joker to punch because I was laughing so hard. Right before it happened, I joked to my sister that a tutorial would pop up and suddenly the gameplay will have the controls from that P4 fighting game and you have to learn that in order to have one last showdown. And then I got the prompt to punch. Then Joker punched. And I started laughing.
11/10 would punch Adam Kadmon man again
On the topic of the new stuff though...
Kasumi/Sumire/Violet was pretty fun to use but badly, badly overshadowed by both Joker and Crow, at least during boss fights. She offered to join the party before Shido's palace and she really should have joined then. Maybe she would just be absent for the Mementos dungeon & Yaldabaoth/Holy Grail boss fights, but she should have been there for Shido's palace. I liked her wanted gimmick of being the crit'er, but when you get her, Mona's third tier persona learns an AOE Lucky Punch, Joker already has high crit, and I would always baton pass to Crow because of his severe almighty AOE ×3. Plus, the way I built my Joker with practically exclusively two personas, Yoshitsune and Kuguya Picaro, he was already the phys and light attacker except with the addition of being able to have an auto-concentrate at the start of every fight (I have no idea why—it's something with Yoshitsune but idk what it is), the charge skill, Yoshitsune's nature of tripling the effect of charge, and the additional electric damage. She should have been a party member before the new semester. Obviously this isn't the case for everyone, but for me personally, I didn't often find use for her, especially since she can't do colossal or even severe magic damage. She is a very good physical party member, but again, Joker already covers that better than any other party member can, including Skull.
Crow was a great party member though. I used him in every request and boss fight after I got him. I was a little salty he couldn't switch back and forth from Loki and Robin Hood but I suppose if he did, he'd make Violet even more obsolete lol. I liked Loki while playing P3, so I'm glad I was able to use that persona again. He had Debilitate which was amazing. Queen learns Checkmate when getting to the third tier persona, which is an AOE version of it, but honestly, whenever I was fighting a boss that I thought needed it at that point in the game, I didn't need it to be multi-hitting. Plus, it costed about 90 SP and no way I was using that over her healing, defense buffs, and nuclear damage.
But anyway, back to Crow, I loved using him. He basically turned into my almighty damage dealer, even with his somewhat weaker magic, at least compared to his strength stat, but considering the final boss fight, it was extremely helpful. It did take up a lot of SP, but I had 5 Somas, a ton of SP restoratives, and had basically asked Kawakami to make me either curry or coffee every single night I was able to, so I pretty much had an infinite supply of it.
It helped that P5R made Akechi a much more likable character too. I liked him all right in P5, but didn't find him all that sympathetic, and thought that the characters treating him so sympathetically was extremely jarring considering all the horrible shit he did (which includes making orphans of both Haru and Futaba). That still kind of holds true, but since you can actually build a social link with him outside of the story, you can see more of his character and it improved him in leaps and bounds. Not to mention that his 8th confidant rank was....something else ^^; having a section of the new story too with just Joker and Akechi, (and kind of Sumire too, but mostly just those two) was awesome. I loved seeing them team up to punch Adam Kadmon man in the face. Plus, having more time with him in the Phantom Thieves without pretense had him going "I am surrounded by idiots" basically the whole time he was there. Like—I even felt disappointed that Akechi was actually dead and he didn't survive. That's a huge improvement over from me wishing one of the dialogue options was "fuck you lmao" during his death scene at the end of Shido's palace when he asked the Phantom Thieves to promise him to change Shido's heart.
For Sumire though, she had a good character arc. Like her gameplay though, she was badly overshadowed by both Akechi and Maruki. Even still, I liked her character arc and everything, and her social link. Even if I ended up liking Kasumi more in the end anyway rip
That's kind of all I have to say about her, oof. She was good, but other elements took attention away from her pretty badly.
Maruki though... Maruki was amazing. He was a fantastic antagonist because I got to punch him in the face, his palace was amazing, I loved the music, the different sections were cool, and I even liked the color maze bridge puzzle thing. I definitely wouldn't like it so much if I ever replayed it, especially if I try to get that final Will Seed, which wasn't hard, but did take kind of a while, but I don't think I will be so it's not a problem.
He had such good motivations, and the fact that he didn't ever actually hurt anyone other than when he punched Joker in the face made him really sympathetic and redeemable to me. At the end of the day, all he actually wanted to do was make people happy and not have to suffer, and was willing to destroy himself in order to achieve it. But just like with every belief, it went too far and he took away people's free will and ability to pick for themselves. The kind of moral question about the entire thing was very interesting, and I kind of wish it was more further addressed. There should have been Sojiro or some other character that was perfectly happy in Maruki's alternate reality so they could challenge the Phantom Thieves in a way Maruki wasn't able to. Still, what was done was really good and I liked it a lot.
...
Even all that said, I have no idea why the hell Joker could not use Satanael. There was such a perfect opportunity to use it once Maruki evolved his persona to Adam Kadmon, a giant persona. Hell, it was still small when compared to Satanael. It's after beating Yaldabaoth so Joker should have access to it. It would have been epic to be able to use a giant Satanael in a normal-ish boss fight. I'm sure there are some explanations as to why, but the game never mentions it or even acknowledges Satanael so it doesn't count and I'm still bitter. The writers forgot that Joker has a persona literally as big as a cognitive god and that kind of broke some immersion for me. Immersion completely went out the window once Joker and Maruki started punching each other but STILL. Satanael's not that great a persona, but having it show up in the story again would have been so awesome to use a persona about as big as Shibuya more than once.
Hardly comparable to my beef about Satanael, but I wish that while the party members were acting as Phantom Thieves, or at least while they're in the metaverse, the names on their text boxes would change to their Phantom Thief names. There's no reason why they didn't, especially since the characters exclusively use their Phantom Thief names to call each other anyway. It's not a huge deal or anything, but I would have liked it.
I loved Royal, and totally think it's better than P5 vanilla. Its new semester kind of takes away from the superb ending of the vanilla game, but the new stuff still makes up for it. Don't get me wrong, you can still get the original ending from the vanilla game in Royal, at least I'm pretty sure you can, but it involves you missing out on all the new content, including Violet as a party member and getting Crow back, plus Joker's showtimes so it's not worth it imo
I wasn't actually looking forward to the game when it was announced, or even planning on getting it, but I had the Phantom Thieves' edition pre-ordered for me as a Christmas present so I wasn't going to...not play it lol. I'm extremely glad I got it though, even if I otherwise wouldn't have, and now that I have finished it, I'm very happy with the game. The gameplay's improved by leaps and bounds, and the new content was all amazing.
... And I got to punch Maruki in the face.
I did end up getting the platinum trophy for Royal too, so despite the Phantom Thieves den thing, I don't see myself going back to it, at least any time soon. It was an amazing experience, but I can set my sights back to FFVII now lol.
...Although, I did hear you can fight the twins and Lavenza so uhhh maybe i won't be shelfing it so soon—

I had some free time today at work and thought I’d jot down the changes/streamlined things from the doctor sleep book to movie. Cause I obviously have nothing better to do! This probably isn’t all of them but I mean...there is a lot in the book haha. This came out so much longer then I thought so I apologize!
Obviously, spoilers ahead for the book and movie! If you have any things I missed, feel free to add on :)
From the start, Dick Hallorann is obviously dead in the movie. He pops up a few times through the movie, helping Dan at the start, again at the hotel in NJ, and then later in NH when he needs a bit of a push to help Abra. In the book, Dick is alive! For the most part, he doesn’t die like in the 1980 Shining movie. He does the same with Dan at the start, helping him with the boxes, but then we don’t see him again. We hear his voice through a patient at the hospice, urging Dan to get the baseball glove I believe. But he does die at some point in the book, I think the late 90s?
The movie cuts out allll the stuff about the True Knot just...just chilling around NYC after 9/11 happens. They also cut out Abra knowing about it, as a baby, and crying until I believe the second plane crashes? Which I mean...I’m good with that, that’s a lot to deal with.
They cut out Momo entirely. There isn’t too much focus on Abra’s family here, maybe her father most of all, but the movie’s main focus is Dan, Abra, and Rose. With no Momo, that means there isn’t the whole scenario at the end with Dan unleashing...I think it’s Momo, her soul? I wasn’t entirely clear the first time I heard it, I believe it was her cause it basically killed the True Knot.
Speaking of the True Knot, there’s only about...7 of them I believe in the movie. There’s about 40ish at the beginning of the book, which I mean is a lot. It makes sense for them to get cut down, and again the focus in that group is mostly Rose, Crow Daddy, and Andi. Speaking of Andi, she’s aged down from the book. She’s 15 in the movie, late 20’s I think in the book? Maybe 30.
They only show Abra once or twice as a child, wherein the book we check back in with her from time to time as she’s growing up. They keep the main bit of her as a kid when at her 5th birthday party she does the spoon trick.
When Dan gets to Frazier, he doesn’t see Tony. In the movie versions, we never see Tony as described in The Shining or Doctor Sleep. I think Tony gets two namedrop’s in the movie.
Billy Freeman has been aged down, good ol Cliff Curtis! Love that dude. But he’s also become Dan’s main friend, wherein the book there was John Dalton (who is also in the movie for 2 scenes) and Casey (who is nowhere to be seeennn) They streamline these characters into Billy, which makes sense. There is only so much time the movie has and it’s already about...2 ½ hours long haha
John Dalton is in the movie, but he’s only in 3 scenes. The most crucial ones are when Dan tells him about the watch and when John offers him an orderly job at the hospice. He never has any scenes with Abra’s family and the movie doesn’t indicate that they know each other, wherein the book the Stone’s interact with John multiple times.
Small thing, but the “steam” that comes from the patients of the hospice in the movie is white whereas in the movie it’s described as red.
The time jumps are different. In the movie, these’s two. There’s one from 1980 (the year the movie The Shining came out) to 2011 when we first see Dan living….a really shitty life. And then there’s the time jump from 2011 to 2019. In the book, there’s a few since we are able to linger with these characters more. You have the one a few months after the events of the Shining book, and then early 2000s then two or three years after that and so on. That way it allows the reader to kinda see how Abra grows up and see how long Dan has been sober.
The baseball boy scene in the book takes place when Abra is...between 8 to 10 if I remember correctly? But it isn’t until a few years later when Abra sees the boys face in one of those “missing kids” things from the papers that she starts to act on it. Where in the movie, the scene takes place when Abra is a teen and within the next few day to a week (I think...I may be wrong but it’s quick!) she’s able to find something online about him going missing and finding out who Rose is and what not. Also when Dan learns about this in the movie, he sees it saying REDRUM in the mirror when it actually says MURDER on the wall. In the book, Abra does send a message but it’s just “They are killing the baseball boy”
When Abra and Dan meet up in the movie, Abra surprised him at tiny town and that’s the first time he figures out her name. He had left a message for her on the board and I assume that was how she kinda tracked him down. In the book, they had emailed once or twice and decided on a place to meet. Dan had known Abra’s name since she was basically unknowingly reaching out to him.
I may be remembering this incorrectly, so correct me if I’m wrong, but Dan in the movie seemed very definitive in that he wanted Abra to keep her head down from the True Knot. For good reason of course, he reiterates if you mess with people or things like this they would never leave you “they come back.” Like the ghosts of the Overlook kept coming back for him. He doesn’t want that to happen to Abra and says to keep her head down. Now I believe in the book, he’s not as much “keep your head down” but he tells her to set up an alarm in case Rose tries to come back. But I also believe he tells her to keep it on the down-low with that group, which I mean of course Abra wouldn’t lol. But I could be wrong on that, I’ve gotta go re-listen to that part.
In the book, we don’t see Dick Hallorann again but we hear his voice through a patient. In the movie, he actually pops back up at the hospice Dan works at! Dan almost locks him in a box, thinking he’s from the Overlook before realizing it’s Dick. It’s one of my favorite scenes because you get to see how at ease Dan is with Dick. He’s got this big smile on his face, talking about how Doris Herwin (or w/e his name is, that’s totally wrong) came back and he locked him in a box. And Dick also mentions to Dan, cause Dan is asking why he has to help Abra, that why did Dick have to help Dan and get killed for it (like in the Kubrick movie). Not in a malicious way of course, but he’s basically telling Dan he can’t run away from Abra. She needs him.
In the book, when Rose goes into Abra’s mind, Abra turns into Daenerys from Game of Thrones. In the movie she becomes...Emerald from RWBY. When I told my brother that he got super hyped, but he’s more into that show then I am hahaha
There is nothing with the measles that Brad Trevor’s steam had in the movie. Just punted that idea right outta there. In the book, they are all slowly being effected and dying from it. In the movie, Grandpa Flick dies because they just haven’t been getting enough steam and disappears. And creepily the rest of the True Knot jump on his steam like no one’s business.
Since Billy is taking over the John Dalton role, he’s the one who goes with Dan to Iowa to get the baseball glove from Brad Trevor. They drive, wherein the book I believe they flew.
In the book, Rose doesn’t insist on coming along with the group of the True Knot going to get Abra. She stays back with the rest of the pack to make sure everyone is all good (or something along those lines). But with the True Knot being smaller in the movie, they are all going but Crow Daddy insists that Rose stays since Abra “tagged her”. Rose isn’t pleased with it but she allows it.
The ambush scene is generally the same, but Dave (Abra’s father) isn’t there. It’s just Billy and Dan. And Dan goes to fire his gun but it’s empty and as he tries to reload, Andi (after a few times) makes him fall asleep for a moment. Abra wakes him up but Andi is standing over Dan, ready to kill him, when Billy shoots her twice. Before Andi dies, she tells Billy to kill himself and before Dan can stop him, Billy does just that. Abra’s father is also killed when Crow Daddy comes to get Abra. In the movie Abra didn’t go to a friend’s house, she stayed at home with her father.
There isn’t a scene like this in the book (but they deal with it when Dan just realllly wants to drink when he’s having inner monologue) but Dan goes back to his apartment in Frazier, tries to call out for Abra and it doesn’t work. He asks for Tony’s help, but there is no answer. He’s holding a bottle of whiskey and he puts it to his lips multiple times before throwing it away.
The scene when Abra and Dan switch places is a little different. In the book, Dan is in the back of a car that John Dalton is driving (with Dave) and they can hear Abra through Dave. In the movie, Dan (in this really awesome effect) slides across his floor as the world tilts and hits the wall and he finds Abra. They switch when they hold up their hands to each other. Dan/Abra crashes the car they are in, causing Crow Daddy to fly out and die. I believe Crow Daddy dies from a gunshot in the book?
One thing that is referenced in the movie but not elaborated on in the movie is that Dan and Abra are actually related! In the book, Lucy (Abra’s mother) is Dan’s half-sister. Lucy’s mother, at some point in time, was together with Jack Torrance for a night or so. Lucy’s mother died and never told her about her father and Momo didn’t know too much about him either. Dan is able to figure it out with some clues...and some other things, it happened a little fast for me in the book if I’m honest. But in the movie, they reference this by having Abra call Dan “Uncle Dan” even tho they aren’t related.
This is the biggest detour from the Doctor Sleep movie and book. Because Kubrick’s The Shining didn’t burn down the Overlook Hotel, it is still standing. Whereas King’s The Shining had the hotel burn down after Jack had forgotten to dump the boiler. The final showdown between Rose, Dan, and Abra happens at the Overlook (in a sense) but in a different fashion.
In the movie, Dan walks around the Overlook and “wakes it up” after being boarded up and left alone for almost 40 years. One of the most crucial scenes (for me anyway) in the movie happens in the Gold Room where Dan meets up with his father, Jack, but he is calling himself “Lloyd” the bartender. Mike Flanagan has said that this was the scene Stephen King wanted when allowing this portion of the movie to take place. In this scene, Dan tries to talk to his father. His “father” insists on Dan to “take his medicine” which is a glass of whiskey that has been poured for him. This is a call back to the King The Shining. By the end of this scene, Jack slaps away the glass once Dan refuses to take the drink (which Jack had done and lost himself to the hotel)
Abra and Dan face Rose on the steps of the Colorado lodge, Dan holding an ax. In the book, Abra isn’t really at this location. She is back at her home in NH and is projecting herself there. In the movie, Dan and Abra attempt to fool Rose by trapping her in one of Dan’s boxes. She is able to see through this, throws Abra from Dan’s mind, and Dan tells her to run. In the book, Dan makes a point to Abra multiple times that if things started to get rough, she had to leave.
Rose and Dan talk, which they did in the book but it was more in Dan’s mind that Rose was messing with, and Rose follows Dan up the stairs like how Jack followed Wendy up the stairs in Kubrick Shining. Dan goes to attack Rose, hits her but she is able to take the ax, hit him in the head, lodge the ax’s blade into his thigh (hitting his femoral artery) and throws him down the steps (like the movie). In the book, Rose tries to get Dan to choke himself and she almost gets him to do it but the ghost of Jack stops her and allows time for Abra to come back.
In the book, Abra and Dan are able to force Rose off the cliffside (is it a cliff side, I was trying to get that too...it’s a big ol ledge and a big ol fall) and she dies. In the movie, Rose is over Dan and, lodging her thumb in the wound she gave him with the ax, begins to take his steam as he cries out. She then realizes that he has boxes in his mind and Dan unleashes them on her. The ghosts of the Overlook come out and kill Rose, standing over her like the True knot had done with Brad Trevor.
To me, because Dan is wounded badly and some of his shine has been taken, the ghosts of the Overlook com after him and take him over. He attempted to close them back in but was unable to do so (because, to me, he was vulnerable)
This is where Mike takes the ending of the Shining book, that didn’t make it into the Shining movie, and uses it. Dan is possessed by the hotel and chases after Abra, who runs around and bumps into a few ghosts before going into 237. In here, Abra confronts “Dan” and calls him a false face. “Masks off then” another reference The Shining. Abra tells “Dan” that the real Dan went to the boiler room before all of this, which would essentially blow up the hotel. “Dan” tries to attack Abra but she stops him and is able to bring the real Dan back. They talk, Abra not wanting to leave him but Dan says “he’s exactly where he’s supposed to be” and jokes that he “has to close the door behind us” The Overlook begins to take him over again and Abra runs away, leaving the hotel behind. “Dan” runs down to the boiler room and tries to turn off the boiler (like the ghosts thought they could in The Shining) but Dan is able to fight them off and take back control. With his leg bleeding out, the boiler begins to blow up and fire builds in the room. There, Dan sees Wendy (the last time he saw her he couldn’t see her at all because of the death flies) and then a younger version of Dan appears and they smile at one another. Dan dies in the hotel and Abra speaks to him in her room sometime after. She says she “knew he would be ok” and Dan apologized for putting her in danger. They talk and Dan tells her to not hide like he had told her once before. “Shine on Abra Stone. You shine on” Abra’s mother comes in at this time and we see that Dan was not there, but a ghost-like Dick Hallorann had been. Abra tells her mother that Dan and her father are ok. The last shot is Abra walking towards the bathroom where Mrs. Massey is and closes the door, mirroring what Dave had done when he locked her away at the beginning of the story.
In the book, as many know, Dan lives! After the big battle with Rose, Dan is able to see from afar his father Jack from where Rose had fallen. They blow each other a kiss, which was something they used to do. The book then skips a few years into the future and Dan is celebrating 15 years of being sober. He tells the group of his hidden truth through the whole book, where he left a young mother and her son without money after a one night stand. It’s a heavyweight he lifts off his shoulders and he shocked to see the people of the AA group don’t become disgusted with him. Sometime later, he goes to the Stone’s home (Dave is still alive too!) and had a talk with Abra, who is having a bit of teenage drama. They talk about their family past and other things before Dan has to leave. The book ends with Dan going back to the hospice and sliding back into his role as “Doctor Sleep”
This is way too long and I put in too much detail but hey there we go! There are probably more things but the book just has SO MUCH going on (tho I do love it) and I feel like a lot had to be streamlined into 2 ½ hours, which is still a long movie! There are many things that are the same, things that are different, but I love both the same way. Mike Flanagan had a huge task and I think he succeeded. And while I know many people don’t like that the book and movie ending are different, I like that we can have both options. And hey, that’s what fanfic is for haha

Quarantine tag game
I was tagged by @dawnlightsilhouette thank you <3
Are you staying home from school/work? yeah, been put on unpaid leave as soon as things started to look serious. I work in tourism, you see...
If you're staying home, who is there with you? My parents and my kitty
Are you a homebody? Certainly.
An event that you were looking forward to that got cancelled? Eurovision. I watch it every year and its so hard to accept that there will be no Eurovision this year...
What movies have you watched recently? Other Story (Israeli film). I don’t watch many movies so I don’t recall what was the last movie I watched before this one...
What shows are you watching? Aw man I’m catching up on all the K dramas I didn’t watch in the past 3 years!! Now I’m watching Healer. I am also watching Prison Break with my parents, since they never watched it.
What music are you listening to? It’s really strange for me to say, but... I found I don’t listen to music all that much, lately. Even though I used to need music to do *anything*, lately its been distracting me. I do listen to some kpop when I work out, but other than that, not really....
What are you reading? A little while before this madness started, I started re-reading Harry Potter as a fun way to prepare for an exam I took. so, now I’m on the 5th book.
What are you doing for self care? Hmm.... I’m trying to work out more, trying to keep my food in check. Trying to take care of my skin better and do face masks once a week... this kind of stuff.
Any big projects you're working on? Hmm... I’m trying to catch up on all the fanfiction I’ve been wanting to write for ages, though, somehow, I only manage to write new stuff XD for whatever reason. I also took a few courses. Trying to get back to studying for my Japanese exam in December. Also trying to get into a workout routine, now that I have so much time. I also finally put together the puzzle I bought in October, but finished it within less than a week (it was only 1 k pieces lol). Trying to get my cooking back on track... not sure how ‘big’ all these count as, but they’re important to me. So...
Plans for when the quarantine is over? I really fucking want to cut my hair!!! So I guess I’m gonna do that. I should also get going on sending my degree to WES and stuff like that... idk...
I’m tagging whoever wants to do this from my followers :) please feel free if you feel like filling up this little questionnaire!

Day 6 Prompt - Your character has a dream, something they want more than anything…what is it, and how do they react when they finally get it?
Tumblr media
Word count 1,163
Sitting at the top of the table Thranduil scanned the room with his eyes, noticing how drunk everyone was getting at the mid-summer feast, he had truly picked the best wine and the drunker the guests were the more they would leave him alone.
Every noble family was invited and of course the lords bought their single daughters, in hope of winning the kings heart, it was no secret that Thranduil was looking for a new queen, and race wasn't a concern of his, but as of yet, not a single girl could win him over, all he could see was their lust for the throne and power, rolling his eyes Thranduil stood and made his way to the balcony, taking a sip of his wine, he stared up at the stairs, and dreamed of a perfect life with a new queen by his side that loved him and not the throne.
*2000 years later* Walking up to the gate of the woodland realm you were tired from your journey and if you were being honest you couldn't wait to get in to a soft warm bed and have a belly full of food, you had been sent here with an important message from Lord Elrond to Thranduil, something about a war or something, but of course you weren't paying much attention, so you had it written in a letter.
Being greeted at the gate by two guards you showed the letter and the Lord Elrond's seal, getting a nod you followed the first one, while the second walked behind you, following the path, you couldn't help but look around the waterfalls, the trees, the details of all the carvings on the wall you always thought Rivendell was beautiful but Mirkwood, it took your breath away, walking over the bridge you looked up at saw the throne lifting an eyebrow you were confused "Where is the king of this realm?" You asked the guards.
"King Thranduil is in a meeting, you will wait in the throne room ranger" the second guard said.
"Fine by me" you said as you rolled your eyes, climbing the stairs to the throne room.
Stopping once you entered the room you looked around and saw a small table and chair set up away from the throne, watching the guards walking over to it they extended their hand to it, silently telling you this was for you,  taking the seat, you saw two more guards standing by the throne as the first two guards left the room, probably to tell the king of your arriver you thought.
....
Sitting on the chair Thranduil was currently listening to the 5th noble of the day trying to tell him how his daughter would make a perfect queen, turning his icy eyes to the young girl he looked at her, and got nothing turning back to the noble Thranduil was about ready to tell him to leave when the door opened with the guards "My lord Thranduil, I am sorry to disturb you, but a messenger from Lord Elrond is here" one of the guards said.
Thanking Valar in his head Thranduil rose to his feet, "Please excuse me" he said as he left the room, feeling his ears twitch "Daddy, I wanted to be queen!" the young girl cried like a spoiled child, making Thranduil roll his eyes as he walked down the hall.
Turning to the guard on his right "escort the noble and his daughter out of my realm" he ordered as he walked on towards the throne, deciding to give up his search for a queen and focus on ruling his kingdom, passing some of the servants Thranduil started to hear some gossip.
"I hear the messenger is a ranger from the north"
"Lord Elrond must trust them to send them this far"
"Why would he send a ranger though?"
Lifting an eyebrow Thranduil turned back to the servants who were still gossiping down the hall, turning back to face the throne room Thranduil rubbed his temple, "why does Elrond feel the need to send yet another ranger to me" he huffed out climbing the stairs.
Looking at the girl on the seat Thranduil stopped in his tracks, feeling his heart beating faster, his mouth went dry and he started to feel very protective over her, running his eyes around the room he looked for the ranger, but couldn't see him anywhere clearing his throat he watched the girl look up at him and he got lost in her eyes.
"King Thranduil?" You asked again and watched as he seemed to fall back to reality.
"I'm sorry .... What is your name? And where is the ranger?" Thranduil asked looking around again.
Raising to your feet you smiled "I'm (y/n), and I'm the ranger you're looking for, here is the message from Lord Elrond" handing over the letter you touched Thranduil's finger and you both felt a small spark.
"Thank you, (Y/n)" Thranduil said as he opened the letter and read it, walking out of the room Thranduil stopped and turned back to you "Oh, I'm sorry, I'll have someone show you to the guest rooms, and I will get some food sent to your room."
"Thank you, my lord" you said as bowed and watched a small smile appear on his face before he turned around and walked off.
....
A year after meeting Thranduil for the first time you were sent back and fouth between Rivendell and Mirkwood, staying at Mirkwood for longer then most, on your latest visit to Mirkwood, you were currently sitting in the gardens waiting on Thranduil meeting you twisting you thumbs you let out a small sigh, you were feeling sick but you had to tell Thranduil how you felt, "(Y/n)?"   Hering your name you turned and saw Thranduil standing there looking worried.
"Is everything alright?" Thranduil asked kneeling down in front of you, searching your eyes for an answer.
Wetting your lips you tried to think how to tell him, opening your mouth you started to try and explain "Thranduil I...." Looking into his eyes you just could help yourself, grabbing his face you cashed your lips into his pouring all you love into it.
Feeling your lips on his Thranduil pulled you closer and started to kiss you back, after a while you both broke the kiss for air, smiling Thranduil rose to his feet and lifted you to your feet "I've wanted to kiss you the first moment I saw you (y/n)" Thranduil admitted.
"I've wanted the same" you said back smiling.
Dropping to his knees Thranduil took your hands in his "then marry me (y/n), become my Queen?" Shocked at Thranduil's question your breath caught, the only thing you could do was nod a yes making Thranduil smile and lift you up before pulling you into another deep kiss.
Thranduil had searched for his dream queen for years, and you were definitely worth the wait.

WIP Rambles Thing
It's been forever since I did any tag games, so I'm super excited that @bluemartlet tagged me in this! And @toboldlywrite asked to be tagged, too. I feel like such a weird writer, though, because everything I’ve worked on in the past five years has been the same series. So I guess if you forgot about dorks, here’s dorks! (There’s info about the characters here or here if you’re on mobile.)
1. Colorweaver (rewriting/editing the guh... 4th draft? Parts have been rewritten six times, but some parts only twice, so I guess that averages to a 4th?) Genre: These are all the same comedic contemporary high fantasy series POV: 3rd person close/limited, multiple POV; in the current draft there are 3 (Adair, Blythe, Dray) plus letters/journal entries from Rosalie Blurb: Adair Cerulean is an amateur cartographer with the ability to make his drawings have the semblance of life. Like the other creators who possess magic and channel this through art, Adair is a Weaver. Adair is in the process of working on the project that, once complete, would advance him in rank when he discovers it missing! As its new owner seeks out more Weavers, Adair feels a tug from his creation to follow. This pull leads him to a carnival where he meets a healer standing guard over a stricken performer. It turns out that his thief is more than a mere robber and there’s more at stake than just a stolen map. Will Adair get it back and stop the thief before anyone else is hurt?
2. Sentinel (writing the 3rd draft, but technically there have been 6 versions; the others were detailed outlines. This has been hard to nail down!) POV: Ditto; POVs are Adair, Blythe, Firedrake, and Rosalie who gets normal chapters in this one. Blurb: Adair has recovered his stolen map and acquired a new family who will -- with luck and a lack of imps -- protect him in the future. His elation is short-lived, however. The other artists refuse to accept his choice of sentinel-intended or his desire to help as magic in the capital city begins to go awry. When an enemy thought to be defeated returns to team up with someone from Adair's past, he and his family start receiving cryptic advice seemingly from the future. Caught between past and present, and hoping they don’t muck up said future, the dorks must decide how far they’re willing to defy authority, their own arcane training, and calendars.
3. Untitled (brainstorming 1st draft) POV: Ditto, although by this point I might throw in a 5th and add Camille into the mix. This book snuck into a previously-planned trilogy a few months ago so it’s the newcomer of this quartet. Blurb: Adair has been begrudgingly promoted and is now able to practice his cartography wherever he chooses. The dorks, along with their fledgling carnival troupe, are asked to travel to the neighboring country to check for anyone showing signs of magic. This is a cover to hide their real task of investigating the possible source of the arcane glitches happening back home in Concordia. They soon find out that Galanvoth’s plotting goes deeper than anyone thought. It’s up to the dorks to do their own kind of bizarre plotting involving disguises and a fake marriage trope to get to the truth. Will they be able to uncover the people responsible before the magical disruption turns into permanent damage to their home?
4. Iconoclasm (first draft started, but needs to be massively re-outlined) POV: Ditto and I have no idea who else might be joining by this point lol Blurb: As if the previous assignment wasn’t weird enough, a being straight out of history approaches the artists with a plea. There's trouble in his home and he asks that the help he once gave be returned. His only requirement is that the dorks be the ones sent, much to their dismay. Three of them are fugitives and Montglace doesn't exactly embrace outsiders with open arms. Fortunately there's a resistance brewing and those rebels are more than happy to accept strangers into their midst-- at least until they realize how strange said strangers are. When the dorks are forced apart, they begin to realize that they can never truly be separated. If they can find a way to weave their magics into each other and face their greatest fears, they just might be able to help bring down a stagnant and cruel mythos. And hey, if they can do this, facing their own people to tell them that they kinda broke artisan tradition (again) and mucked with magic (again) won’t be nearly as bad, right?
I have two more under the read more. :)
5. Shadowweaver (book 1 in the next trilogy. 1st draft is sorta started-- it was originally part of Sentinel before I pulled Gilly’s subplot out of it and moved her later in the series) POV: Still 3rd person limited, multiple. Likely Gilly, Grandeau, and Astra, but this trilogy is weird because it takes place in two points on the timeline with one of the MCs serving as a bridge and I’m not sure yet how much of Astra’s plot fits into the first book. (I introduced Gilly, Chell, and Ametrine here. Ametrine is the dorks’ adopted son, Astra is his younger sister [not adopted], and Grandeau is Gilly’s brother although she doesn’t know that yet.) Blurb: Gilly is a carnival performer, thief, and ghost-freer who shares these jobs with her roommate/best friend Ametrine. While the two of them are tracking down art that was illegally gained by a dishonest art dealer, the dealer’s sister catches Gilly in the act. She gets away, but is intrigued by this girl whose weak voice is oddly captivating. She finds herself drawn back and soon discovers that while Chantrell is confined in her own home, she isn’t as sick as she appears, nor is she as dead as people seem to think she is. Gilly is determined to find out the truth and, with Ametrine’s help, set her new friend free.
6. Sciamachy (book 2 in the next trilogy, brainstorming) Blurb: Chantrell has joined Gilly and Ametrine on their thieving and ghost hunting adventures; with her magical ability to produce any sound, Chell is the perfect distraction for the others’ heists. It’s during one of these encounters that Gilly notices a shadow that shouldn’t be there. Meanwhile Astra, twenty years in the future, notices the same thing. Someone or something is trying to reach out to the girls using the shadow magic they both share. Could this be connected to the elementals that Astra has discovered are being used to power Galanvoth’s inventions?
-----------------------
I have other stories in progress or in the planning stages, but those are short stories, so I didn’t include them here. I have ideas for way more books because my plan is to make this a huge sprawling series that spans centuries and locations (and possibly worlds). Like I want to write one about the founding of Concordia and the Muses and my immortal character back when she was very young, and maybe more following that character at different points on the timeline, and one that follows the “antagonist” of Colorweaver, and... well, I’ve been working on this series for five years and I’d gladly work on it for another fifty. :D
I’m not sure if you’ve done this yet, but I’m going to tag @lynnafred @elliot-orion @lady-redshield-writes @homesteadhorner @perringwrites @joshuaorrizonte @thatwriternamedvolk @theguildedtypewriter and anyone else who happens to see this and wants to play because I’ve been gone WAY too long and I need a recap on what everyone is working on. So if you’ve done this before or have a similar post already shared, feel free to link me to it or tag me in it. No need to do a tag game, I just would love reminders of what everyone is writing. <3

Nothing New
You're a sensitive person who enjoys solitude. You probably have a very diverse music taste and make playlists for 100 different moods. Another amazing thing about you is that you know how to emotionally check in with yourself and name your emotions! Book rec: Wild and Wicked Things by Francesca May (publication date: March 29th 2022) / Music recs: Sour by Olivia Rodrigo + Build A Problem by dodie.

bright-eyed runaway pirate:
you're a clever kid, with a rebellious streak. you ran away to sea to be a pirate, to feel the wind in your long hair, and to learn to swashbuckle with the best of 'em.

I FIGURED IT OUT! I FIGURED IT OUT!
Okay, so amphibian eggs hatch after anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks (on average). The tadpoles can only breathe underwater, then later as they reach young adulthood they begin breathing on land (roughly, don't quote me on the exact details this is just what I remeber from like, 5th grade biology... or something like that). Anyway, when they are adults some species can breath on land and in water.
So, WHY is this relevant? WHAT did I figure out? Sally Jackson said she only hooked up with Poseidon over the course of ONE summer. Various lines throughout RR's works have established that gods don't always have kids the mortal way (like Annabeth and her siblings being born from their mother's thoughts). Percy Jackson can breathe on land and in water (at least in his young adulthood, we don't know much about him prior to age 12 or older than 17). Therefore, we can conclude that Sally Jackson never got pregnant, and Percy hatched out of an egg. Hence I now have an answer as to how Sally was able to have a summer affair with Poseidon and Percy was born in August.

Dumb question but, in almost all of RR's works he acknowledges that in his world, reality is based off of mortal's beliefs (the gods exist because mortals believe they do, science co-exists with the gods because mortals believe in it), so... does that mean that Riordanverse Earth actually IS (or at least WAS at some point in the past) flat???
