Eurovision 2023: #12 & #11

12. ARMENIA Brunette - "Future lover" 14th place

Decade ranking: 37/116 [Above Stefan, below Systur]

Very tempted to just post this meme as justification for putting Brunette here.

Like, what is Brunette if not A Neat Lady? ? She working on herself, deciding to be good, do good, look good #TeamPretty for her future lover whom she wants to kiss her face, read books with and drink smoothies with at neat cafés - it's no "Why don't you make me dizzy with all your kisses *sad synth*", but it's cute and relatable for a libretto strung together from Pinterest posts lol <3. A Presence That Was Liked (--Gretchen Jones) if ever there was.

What really pushed "Future lover" higher up my ranking though was the live, and specifically the middle section. "Future lover" is not an easy song to get into, but Brunette made it work, specifically by knocking the rap break-

Right out of the park! Princess was eating and her song was the buffet.

And honestly that's enough for a 12th place on my list. You know me, whenever we reach a new zone, we rank the competent people first since they're the ones I have the least opinion on. Brunette is good, i submit the live in Liverpool as evidence, I 'm sure we agree on that? "Future lover" was never more than a fun filler entry for me and I don't mean that disparagingly - every contest needs their also-rans and if the entries that pad out the numbers are good themselves, the contest usually becomes more enjoyable as a whole. Brunette was part of a strong streak that ran from Alika to Pasha, and she earned her spot, by delivering a strong and inspired live that was solidly good with no drawbacks. It's not something I'm passionate about, but "Future Lover" was top shelf Fun Finale Filler, and I wish the entries near the top of the scoreboard I put below Armenia had demonstrated the same level of quality.

11. ICELAND Diljá - "Power" 27th place

Decade ranking: 34/116 [Above Lesley Roy, below TBA]

For the purposes of ranking ESC, I like to clump together entries I have similar feelings for to pretend the chaotic wreck that is this blog as a minimum of consistency. In this case I've completely given up lol <3 Diljá and Brunette couldn't be less alike if they tried. Where Brunette was competent, dignified and professional, Diljá gave negative fucks about how she came across and how it affected her point total. <3

That isn't to say, I didn't enjoy "Power" for what it was because I did, a lot. Basic catchy Electropop by weird indie girls is my safe zone, and where I can fully unwind, calm down and be myself (I suppose that's the introvert equivalent to zoning out to a girlbop? You couldn't pay me to move to a Loco Loco or Slomo in public, although I like both of them). You can defo be sure that I loved "Power" for all its shortcomings and man was it flawed.

As noted pre-show the biggest threat to Diljá was Diljá herself. Now don't get me wrong - I LOVE her. I love her annoying foghorn-like personality that blasted through her rehearsal tiktoks. I love how she, when asked what the best Eurovision song of all times was, served cunt by naming herself. I love how she gave zero shits about something as trivial as qualifying, and just went all out enjoying herself via the medium of her untreated neurodivergence. And of course, most of all, I love that she completely engineered her own demise in the semi, for no reason other than that she felt like it:

Like, I'm pretty sure there's a decent chance "Power" could have qualified in that second semifinal. The target after all was Alika, who was an obvious traditional jury carry. But Diljá threw all that away when she magikarped herself to death on that turntable. 😍

In a sense, that was the most beautiful ending one could have imagined for Diljá's journey - a villain origin story turned flesh. Diljá would always be eliminated in the semis in any contest held acrpss the multiverses and it would always be through needless self-sabotage. 😍 AND SHE ALMOST QUALIFIED IN SPITE OF IT. REST IN P-P-P-POWER, my sweet anxiety princess.

1. the use of gender neutral language when asked about romantic relationships/girls which is very very hard to do in slovene or any other gendered language. he goes out of his way to do it which is interesting but at the same time i really appreciate that he’s normalizing it

2. this is just how i remember the translation being but when asked in this interview about esc being a lgbtq event, and wether or not they want to experiment with that, bojan said “i believe that for now i’m not tempted”. the fact that he used “for now” was very interesting to me, he pretty much leaves room for anything to happen in his future, he’s not completely ruling that out and i love that for him!! note that this interview was before the pre parties and everything which leads me to my next point

3. jere. i can’t even choose one moment just.. jere, he IS the moment!! if you were to tell me he was the reason bojan had a sexuality crisis/awakening i wouldn’t bat an eyelash:)) also, i have no idea how bojan was before esc, this whole thing is basically me projecting, but i wouldn’t be surprised if being around jere, and the eurovision experience in general made him more comfortable to express himself

I never considered that Aradia could be feeling sincere gratitude towards Equius - that's a good point, and might partially explain her flushed feelings for him. Similarly, I never thought about how difficult and impractical a relationship would be for Equius, given he has this kind of strength paired with this kind of dexterity.

Anyway, I half-agree with your thesis. I can imagine a hypothetical kismesissitude between an older, more mature Equius and Aradia, and I think that relationship could potentially be healthy, for the reasons you describe.

But the one we're getting is doomed from the start - Equius's mind-control shenanigans have pretty much torpedoed the whole thing. I don't think he can have a healthy relationship until he figures out why that was wrong.

I'll give you a freebie right now - most of the Jojo villains would fit right in with the Felt!

Eridan's beliefs don't really make sense - but it makes sense that they don't. It's bigotry, after all.

Navia Leak Analysis

Yeah I'm really into this character. So I'm going to gush about her some more, this time over the leaked details of her kit.

Base Stats

Navia has 12,650 HP, 793 DEF, 352 ATK, and 38.4% bonus CRIT DMG at level 90. Compared to other 5-Star characters, her HP is a little low (25th out of 36 characters), but she has higher than average DEF (11th out of 36) and, notably, she has the highest base ATK in the game.

Previously, Xiao held the record for highest base ATK, at 349. Navia's is only three points higher, but a new record is a new record.

Elemental Skill

This needs to be talked about in detail because there's a lot to unpack. First of all, it's a shotgun. Navia has a fucking shotgun.

It works as a payoff for triggering Crystallize reactions. When you pick up the shards, Navia gains charges, and she consumes them when she uses her skill. She can fire up to 11 projectiles, with three or more charges consumed. And if all 11 of them connect with a target, they deal double damage.

The Skill Attributes for this ability list "Rosula Shardshot Base DMG" as 671.2% at Talent level 9. On paper, this is completely insane because it sounds as if each projectile deals 671.2% ATK as damage. I did some calcs under this assumption using a hypothetical Navia build and found that she could deal upwards of 1,000,000 damage per shot.

Clearly, this isn't how it works. What's more likely is that Rosula Shardshot Base DMG refers to the total damage the shot deals, divided evenly among the number of projectiles. If this is the case, we get a much more reasonable 90,000 damage per shot.

It's impossible to discern exactly how this skill works from the description alone, which is unfortunate because it's the most important part of Navia's kit. It seems intended to do a lot of damage, at least.

Passive Talent: Undisclosed Distribution Channels

Navia's Ascension Rank 1 passive is a weird one. She gets a Geo infusion and Bonus DMG to her Normal/Charged/Plunging Attacks when she uses her skill, but it only lasts 4 seconds.

You'll have to considerably extend your field time with Navia to make use of this Passive Talent, so the question is: is it worth it? I'm hesitant to say yes.

Navia's Normal Attack is comparable to Diluc's. In other words, it's decent, but not amazing. She won't be able to compete with the output of most on-field DPS characters, and she can't trigger reactions. At best, she can drive the skills/bursts of her party members.

I think you should only make use of this if you specifically want to on-field Navia or you don't have anything better to do in your rotation during that time. Otherwise it sadly feels like a wasted slot.

Constellation

Nothing too crazy here. C1 is nice for comfort and you get 100% uptime on her burst, but I think you'll struggle to create a rotation around that. Navia can reduce enemy Geo RES with C4, which is pretty rare, but it's expensive to get to that point.

Everything else just adds a little bit of damage to her abilities. Navia doesn't have any game-changing Constellation levels, which is a good thing. This way I'm less tempted to simp for her (yes, I realize the irony in that statement).

Conclusion

That about covers Navia I'd say. I didn't talk about everything of course, just the stuff that I felt was worth mentioning. I think it's cool that we finally have a Crystallize payoff. Just having a use for an otherwise useless reaction is nice.

I love that her skill is literally a shotgun. For any game that has guns, a shotgun is my weapon of choice; they're just so satisfying to use. I don't know how HoYo managed it but Navia is seriously perfect.

So yeah, change of plans: fuck Neuvillette, he can wait. All my Primogems belong to Navia.

2023 AO3 Wrapped!

I had a lot of fun tracking my fic reading in 2022, so... I did it again in 2023! Still fun, still both completely unsurprising and a little illuminating at the same time. I definitely read less fic this past year—only 77 across 12 fandoms, compared to last year's 110—but that's OK. Life happens, and I'm very aware that I'm never going to be a person who reads a million words per month (or 100 books a year). Stats-wise, I can't guarantee that these numbers are completely accurate, but they feel right and that's what counts.

Word Count

971,646 words! Numbers fluctuated throughout the year with one real dead zone (lol @ June - I was busy! sibling got married! played a lot of Zelda!), and I kind of petered out by the end of the year. On the plus side, my brain can handle reading actual books again, which was fun. On the minus side: less fic. Oh well. (Also: May's number isn't entirely accurate, but I had to put rubicon's final word count somewhere. No, I haven't finished reading the complete edited fic yet, but that's when the last chapter draft hit my inbox, soooo there.) Most fics were on the shorter side, unsurprisingly (average length was ~12k); I think rubicon was the only one over 100k. I did read more 50–100k fic compared to last year though, which was nice.

(Putting the rest behind a cut. Obligatory warning that this is mostly about Fire Emblem, but what else is new?)

Top Fandoms

My FE3H reading took a HUGE hit this year, falling from 87.3% to... 83.1%. Ouch, how will my faves recover. Really though, this was yet another reminder that although I certainly watched and loved a lot of new movies and tv shows, read new books, played new video games (ok, it was mostly BOTW/TOTK), all things that could conceivably lead me to check out greener pastures, I am still in an extremely monofandom phase in terms of actual fic reading/fandom participation (four years now!). And honestly, I'm fine with that! I'm having fun, blorbos are still my blorbos, there's still a ton of fic I haven't read yet (new and old), and I'm in a nice/quiet/drama-free corner of fandom. Besides, the average fandom lifespan is too short these days anyway. I'm doing my part to break the cycle. :P

I do wish I had the brain space to read a little more widely, though. I was so close to going on a zelink bender after I finished BOTW, but life got busy and it just... didn't happen. Maybe in 2024. Severance and fandom juggernaut SoftBank Next 30-Year Vision tried their best—two fics each! impressive, lol—but the heart wants what it wants, and what it wants is anime chess pieces kissing (and/or killing) each other.

Top Authors

56 individual authors, with the top spot going to...desmodus! which does not surprise me tbh; they write such good fic. Looking at these particular results was an interesting reminder that I'm really not someone who methodically/voraciously reads through an author's entire back catalogue, at least not currently. Like, besides the named authors, there were four more with two fics each and the rest had only one each. Next time, I'm almost tempted to see if I can factor in word count to get a better idea of how much time I really spent reading each author, especially since I might (hypothetically) read multiple forgettable 1–5k fics by Author A, and then a single memorable/meaty 95k fic by Author B that sticks with me for years. Is Author A really more of a "top" author? Not really. That's more work on my part though, so we'll see what happens. (All of this waffling could be solved by making an actual rec list for once, but shhhhh.)

Top Pairings

Surprising absolutely no one, I'm still in sylvix hell. Congrats to None for jumping a couple spots in the rankings, though! A solid showing. I need to get better at tracking platonic relationships, but to be fair, those tags are underutilized on AO3 to begin with (or not used consistently), and I typically—but not always—stick with the main tags chosen by the author.

Also, please note that the ship in sixth place was entirely thanks to alphabetical sorting (it was a six-way tie), but I'm keeping it as is because it makes me laugh/implies some sort of character growth on my part that may or may not exist.

Top Characters

Lol. In my defense(?), Sylvain did drop almost three whole points this year; he couldn't even hit 60%! What kind of blorbo...?! Jokes aside, it's an entirely expected list. My Blue Lions/Golden Deer bias persists, but I'm not sure what determined when I logged "Blue Lions Students" vs. their actual names—probably half laziness, half just following what the author picked. I did love seeing Ask A Manager's Allison Green chilling at the bottom of this list with Bakugo, though. I'm sure she'll be fine. (And god knows Mr. King Explosion Murder and the rest of my top 20 could stand to follow her advice.)

(Also: apologies to Lorenz Hellman Gloucester, as I see his illustrious surname was cut off accidentally. Forgive me.)

Ratings, Categories, etc.

Also pretty unsurprising! I considered cutting my NSFW tracker at the beginning of last year since it's a little redundant, but that never happened. It might come in handy one day, especially if I'm looking through my spreadsheet for individualized recs. I was surprised that the Multi category was so low, but that could be due to inconsistencies in how people tag their fic? And/or how I logged them. Sometimes it means poly, but sometimes it just means that there are multiple kinds of ships in a fic. Either way, it's something to consider for 2024's tracker. Consistency! Let's strive for it! ✨

Tags & Tropes

Also about what I expected, though I was honestly shocked to see Established Relationship ranking so high? And Friends to Lovers so low? What is going ON here. (The former is probably partially due to mikey desmodus's excellent married sylvix fics.) Sorry to Horse Feelings, though; I made a dedicated tag on my google form and everything, but there was only the one fic in the end :(

Etc: Commenting, Rereading, Reccing, and Bookmarks

Commenting: My only real fic-reading "goal" in 2023 was to get my commenting percentage up to at least 50% and...I did that! Just barely, but 51.9% is 51.9%. Obsessive media tracking works!

Rereads: As expected, and pretty in line with last year (with a tiny increase). I'm just not a big rereader in general, though I did do a fair bit of rereading WIPs to prepare for new chapters. (Not sure how I classified those, come to think of it...)

Bookmarks: Also pretty similar to last year (with a tiny decrease).

Reccing: Now this DID surprise me. That "Yes" percentage seems almost absurdly high, jumping from 46.4% to 61%, and my "No"s dropped a ton too (22.7% to 5.2%). Either I got nicer or I just read better fic. :P Leaning towards the former, but probably a bit of both tbh. My one DNF was a longfic WIP that didn't spark joy and was becoming a hateread, which is rare for me - byeeeee.

Takeaways

By now my tracking form has become part of my fic-reading routine (read - track - comment/etc), and I can't see that changing any time soon. Obviously not everyone wants to (or should!) engage with fic this way, and I can definitely see how it might suck the joy out of reading for some people, but for me, it's been a good mental exercise and a really helpful commenting aid. Also, it's just fun. I like thinking critically about media! I like having a place to record my silly little thoughts about the silly little fanfics I read! All in all, I highly recommend doing something similar if you, like me, get a rush from making lists and compiling data, and if you like complimenting people but sometimes need that extra push to actually tell them and post a comment.

Goals-wise... I don't really do those lol. Probably to continue commenting and maybe try to read more widely, but honestly I'm probably not going to change my habits intentionally. Besides, looking at what I've read so far, yes, it's already half Fire Emblem, but also half gen and half F/F with nary a Sylvain in sight*! We got History Boys, we got Haikyuu filk, we got Ingrid and a MILF! Who knows what's around the corner?

Supertown Popularity Poll Results

So. The polls are over. All 90 of them. You can still find the list here if you want to see the breakdown of each individual poll, but what you need to know is that each islander was pitted against each other islander in every one of the 90 ways that can happen, so each islander showed up in 18 polls. I decided early on that nobody got a point in the event of a tie. Here are the final scores, in order from highest to lowest:

First place: Ankha, with 11 points Second place: Chief, with 10 points Third and fourth place: Dom and Phoebe, with 9 points Fifth and sixth place: Chrissy and Drago, with 8 points Seventh place: Tybalt, with 6 points Eighth and ninth place: Francine and Henry, with 5 points Tenth place: Cally, with 4 points

Out of curiosity, I decided to see what the scores would be if a tie gave a point to each contestant instead of to neither. These were the results:

First place: Chief, 14 points Second place: Ankha, 13 points Third and fourth place: Phoebe and Drago, 12 points Fifth place: Dom, 11 points Sixth and seventh place: Chrissy and Francine, 10 points Eighth and ninth place: Henry and Tybalt, 8 points Tenth place: Cally, 7 points

So the rankings did shuffle around a little bit. Chief, it seems, was in 4 different polls that tied.

Despite what I said in the initial post on the subject, most polls did not end in ties or have zero votes. There were 15 that did. So 75 polls had a clear winner.

I could play around with the numbers even more if I wanted to. For example, what happens if ties gave half a point to each islander? But I won't. I also won't say what the results would have been if I had voted in the polls that ended in a tie. I was tempted. I really, really wanted to vote in some of these, just to do it. Just to let my own opinion influence things. Given how few votes each poll had, I could have really swayed things, I think. That's why I didn't ever vote. I really wanted to know who people liked the most.

And it's Ankha, of course.

Every so often, someone will find my blog through one of its tags and mass like a couple hundred of my posts that feature a certain character. This year, that happened at least three times that I noticed with Ankha. I wound up having to block one person who kept messaging me over and over about Ankha. I've never blocked anyone before this year. It was upsetting. I'm still upset about it. It kind of tarnishes the fact that she won this whole popularity contest for me.

I should be happier about it. This was a grand experiment that lasted nearly eight months, and I saw it through. And I've said before that Ankha is one of my favorite islanders, and that I had her in my Population: Growing game decades (literally, two decades) ago. So I like Ankha. She's a cute little yellow cat with a funny hat. What's not to like about her?

I'm also glad Chief did as well as he did. Chief is new to me. I only had him in this game on a whim: I liked the fact that his design made me think of certain middle-aged gay men I've known who are doing their best to age gracefully but are, undeniably, aging anyway. That's as much thought as I put into it. I'm sad Cally didn't do well. I had Cally early on in my New Leaf days, and I gave her away to someone who promised I'd be able to visit her again someday and then removed their blog from Tumblr and I never saw Cally again. It was sad. I think about that from time to time.

Something a bit similar happened with Henry: I had him in my New Leaf town, and I gave him away to someone whose blog is no longer active and who didn't post about him. Oh well. I didn't mind that as much. I like Henry alright, but he's never been one of my favorites. I'm fine with how badly he did in the polls.

I don't have any big conclusions here. This went, well, it honestly did go better than I expected for it to in a lot of ways. I kept holding out hope that maybe this blog would finally, after about ten years on this site, pick up a few followers and get me over that 1600-follower mark (I've had 1500-something followers for over six years--every time I gain a few followers, I lose a few), but I'm not willing or able to do what it takes to go viral. These are the kinds of posts I make.

I'm very grateful to the followers I have who stick around, liking and occasionally reblogging my stuff on a regular basis.

Those are in no particular order. I just went to my blog's activity page and scrolled down through a week or two's worth of notes until I saw all the usual folks I remember.

But, even though we don't talk, I appreciate you for being here for so long. It's easy to say that I don't do this for the notes, and I don't, really, but it's nice, you know? To see that there are folks out there who like what I put out there.

I'm going to be honest with you. I've given this a lot of thought. I think it's time I stepped away from Animal Crossing for a while. Focused on other things.

This isn't goodbye. It's just a hiatus. There are a few days of posts left in the queue, and then this blog will go silent, and I'm going to write some kind of actual message a little while after that sorting out my thoughts after ten years and one month of running this blog, which started on September 8, 2013. That's too long. Too, too long to have written anywhere from 4 to 10 posts a day. My activity page says 22,643 before I post this. Probably more than 22,000 of those were original, written by me, that is, not reblogs.

I'll be around. I have a main blog. @ozai has even liked a couple of my posts there, so I'm pretty sure they know about it. It's mentioned at the top of this one, even on mobile. So it's not a secret. It's right there. I write about other things there than Animal Crossing. Lately, it's been mostly about the novel I've spent the last three and a half years working on. I might actually have it done in another two years or so! Won't that be exciting? Then I can shut up about it and start writing about the next one.

I also wrote a few thousand words about Frog, from Chrono Trigger, once. It's not exactly surprising to me that my main blog has never even made it above 70 followers, is my point.

That's enough of this. I'm getting dangerously close to depressing, and I don't want to do that.

Here and now, this experiment, these 90 polls, was a triumph. I stuck with it. Ankha won. Chief came in second. Those are good things. It's good. I'm happy with that. It's the culmination of ten years of work. And it's time for a break.

Ooo I LOVE this!!! Though to be honest, honest all of them would look AMAZING in a maid dress. It also took me an embarrassing amount of time to come up with my list because if I could I would make like 8 of them number one.

5) Pierre

I mainly put Pierre as number 5 because he does absolutely ZERO cleaning. If anything him wearing the maid outfits results in you having to clean even more because it always ends in a big mess.

He wears the maid outfit as part of humiliation, and by the end of the scene the outfit is completely ruined, covered in cum and sweat and lube and most likely torn a little. But that's fine, you just buy him another one.

4) Yuki

Listen, yuki is just SO cute. So cute. So yuki in a maid dress? EVEN CUTER.

And for some reason a detail I can't stop thinking about is that his thick thighs will have hickeys on them? You never stop kissing and biting his thighs, so he's always covered in marks. And in a maid dress the marks look even better.

3) Max

With max, it's all about praise. And it's something he's very uncertain about first, but he tells you that he wants you to choose an outfit for him, something pretty.

You purposefully choose something out of his comfort zone, and praise him so much. He ends up loving it so much. It's not something he wears often, but he asks if he can wear it when he feels really unsettled and just wants to be your good girl.

2) Charles

Of course Charles is here. Of course charles loves wearing little dresses and is always looking for more cute outfits to wear for you. So really it's only a matter of time before he buys a maid costume.

He even tries to clean! Bless him, he really tries. But of course because he's in the maid suit so he's naturally very horny. And listen, he's a clumsy subby baby at the best of times, so when he's in a maid suit he's even clumsier. He tries to clean, really he does. But to be honest it's best if you just stop him and just wreck him instead.

1)) Mick

Mick is number one for two reasons. Firstly, because he looks SO good in a maid outfit. He looks so damn good. Perfect. His waist and tits look insane in the maid outfit.

And secondly, HE ACTUALLY CLEANS!!! He cleans the house in the pretty outfit!! And even if you try to tempt him away from his chores early, he'll refuse. He's a good maid! He finishes cleaning before he gets fucked.

Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes - Number 15

Welcome to A Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes! During this month-long event, I’ll be counting my Top 31 Favorite Fictional Detectives, from movies, television, literature, video games, and more! We’ve reached the Top 15!

SLEUTH-OF-THE-DAY’S QUOTE: “It’s called a hustle, sweetheart.”

Number 15 is…both Judy Hopps AND Nick Wilde, from Zootopia.

Just like our previous pick, this time I’m picking a crime-fighting duo. This isn’t the only reason, however, why Nick & Judy are slight oddballs on this list. Another point is that, unlike nearly every other detective on the countdown, they haven’t really had a SERIES of adventures. At least, not so far. This was what held back several of the sleuths who appeared in my Honorable Mentions: Jake Gittes from “Chinatown,” Mark McPherson from “Laura,” and Eddie Valiant from “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” are all great characters, played by phenomenal actors, but they only have one story to their name. Also, all of those stories are limited by the concise format of a singular motion picture. Nearly every other gumshoe gathered on the main countdown so far has had more than one to their name, or has been adapted and reimagined multiple times (or even both). This sly fox and not-so-dumb bunny, however, have only appeared in a single mystery movie, so far: the original “Zootopia.”

Thankfully, in the case of Nick and Judy, that’s really all they need. I absolutely LOVE these two, and there was never any doubt in my mind that they’d wind up SOMEWHERE in the ranks. I will admit, I struggled with exactly where to place them, given the fact they DO only have one movie to their name so far. I think this spot is more or less appropriate.

For those who don’t know, here’s the skinny on “Zootopia”: Disney’s homage to film noir, the movie is a detective mystery that begins with a bunny named Judy Hopps, who becomes the first rabbit officer of the Zootopia Police Department. (This all takes place in a world of anthropomorphic, “evolved” animals.) Despite her accomplishments and hard efforts, Judy is doubted by her Chief and many others, as her small stature and status as “easy prey” cause her to be perceived as “just a dumb bunny.” Eager to prove herself, Judy takes on a missing person’s case that the rest of the department has been having trouble with, as a way to try and show the others she’s more capable than they realize.

This is where our other main character, Nick Wilde, comes into the plot. Nick doesn’t start off the story as a detective: he’s a con artist, whom Judy effectively blackmails into helping her on the case, as she believes his information and insight will be of use to her. Nick is a jaded fox, disillusioned by events in his past; he finds it hard to trust people, and is used to people who don’t trust him, despite his silver tongue. On Judy’s part, she’s also got some issues, which she actually doesn’t recognize at the start of the film: her own past has led her to feel prejudiced against certain kinds of animals, foxes among the rest. As the movie goes on, the two start to help one another through these issues, as Judy learns to see the bigger picture, and Nick learns to open up. Each eventually realizes, in somewhat different ways, they can be more than what they are. All of this while trying to figure out a case which gets more and more twisted and bizarre as the story continues.

A big part of the reason why I love Zootopia IS that it’s a legitimate and really fun mystery story. The way the plot unfolds has a lot of great elements, with some twists you don’t see coming. (As well as a few you do, but you forgive it because the rest is so great, and it’s trying to pay tribute to a particular kind of film and storytelling style, at least in my opinion.) While Judy is the only ACTUAL detective at the start of the film, and I was tempted to just include her, it really is the pair of protagonists and their interactions with each other that makes the movie so great. I don’t really like either Judy or Nick more than the other; both are excellent main characters, and their personalities complement each other in an interesting way, as well as their methods.

On that note, something else I appreciate about these two – and about the film itself – is that, if you really look at it, you’ll realize that (in spite of being a Disney movie) these two aren’t really squeaky-clean heroes. Not only do they just have some personality flaws in general, which each of them have to work through, but both are willing to bend the rules to get by. Nick starts off as a criminal, to begin with, and Judy, as the film goes on, becomes more and more willing to use underhanded tricks to get what she wants. What ultimately separates them from the antagonists of the film is WHY they do what they do, and the fact that each learns a valuable lesson along the way. It’s neat to see characters like this dynamic duo in a Disney movie, and it’s a big part of why Zootopia is one of my favorite animated films (if not my favorite) to come out within the past decade or so. While Nick and Judy’s adventures haven’t officially continued since, the Zootopia universe has continued to branch out in unique ways, including announcements of a possible sequel on the horizon. Here’s hoping these expansions will ultimately show more of Wilde and Hopps doing what they do best: proving that, in Zootopia, anyone can be anything. Except maybe a flying coconut. Somehow, I doubt anyone can be that in Zootopia. But I’ve been wrong before. Ha Ha.

Haru stops and stares at Xanxus and thinks to herself, 'how did he know?' She didn't talk about it to others so how did he find out?

'He doesn't want me to mess with his number?' That's 10, right? Haru goes over her mental list again and looks very skeptical. The ranking list Haru had was one where she listed people by how much of a jerk or a menace she percieved them to be, so she would do well to avoid them in the future. 'He thinks he should rank 10?' There is no way. He should be top 5 at the very least, right?

He's behind Leviathan and Dr.Shamal at least, be grateful for that.

Okay so I was revisiting your Always My Number One fic and I was wondering if Cassie ever ends up on that list? What about Sienna and the Roomies? Imagine if all of them end up in top 50? 😂

Can I just say? I LOVE Always My Number One. I remember laughing the whole time I was creating those Picta and text fic edits and writing the scene between Cassie and Ethan. Definitely one of my favorites. 

I’ve prepared a very long and detailed answer. And as I was writing it, the ideas kept coming for at least 2-3 fics. So I might write those one day. 😄

Cassie:

I do hc that Cassie ends up on that list after she publishes her book and starts to really gains national reknown for her work in medical advocacy. And guess who nominates her? Ethan! 

He does it partly because he wants to tease her the way she did him, but mainly he’s just so proud of her. He doesn’t know the first thing about nominating someone for an online/Picta popularity contest though or about driving up the vote. So, he makes a call to the experts: Cassie’s besties. 

Sienna and Max get the ball rolling and the rest of her friends join in by campaigning the heck out of it.

Cassie didn’t know until the Top 50 finalists list was announced and the public voting began. What the Roomies didn’t know was that Cassie had nominated Bryce that year and was actively campaigning to get him into the finalists list. They both had a good laugh when the list comes out and then the competition was on to reach the top 10!

By the end of it, Bryce ranked number 2 and Cassie number 1. Edenbrook’s PR team was over the moon that two of their doctors took the top spots. That was nothing compared to Ethan’s pride, and he made a rare post on Pictagram about it. I might end up writing this fic one day and will create the Picta posts then.

Cassie, who was a month away from giving birth to the twins, took great pleasure in rubbing it in and Ethan worried she might deliver early given her excitement. “My hair is clearly better than yours, Lahela!” Bryce didn’t mind as he truly thought she deserved it. But he did check his hair in the mirror that night – just in case.

The Gang

Jackie refused to even be considered for this competition. And promised retribution on anyone that tried to get her nominated. Aurora didn’t go that far but said that she had trouble enough shedding the “Emery” reputation and comparison to her aunt (Harper made the list if you recall). Her friends respected her stance even though Cassie was very tempted. Elijah was buried in the lab and thought his work getting recognized was more than enough.

Sienna:

As for Sienna, she doesn’t enter this competition because medicine is just a job to her. She’s been slowly pulling away from it since she and Max have their second child. I’ve talked about how she started a YouTube food channel when she was pregnant with Isabelle in previous posts. Over time, her subscribers grow to over 100K, and she wins the Silver Creator Award, and eventually the Gold Creator when she hits 1 million.

The accolades don’t end there. She is nominated by her subscribers for an online influencers’ competition, losing out to Gwyneth Monroe for the top prize. This brings her to the attention of a major publisher and media conglomerate that wants her to write a cookbook and become one of their celebrity TV show hosts. She says yes to the book, but no to TV. She’s happy raising her family, practicing medicine part-time, and doing her online channel.

Max believes she can do it all if she wants to and they can easily afford additional help. But for Sienna her family always comes first, and she doesn’t want to miss out on her children growing up.

As always, Max is her biggest fan and is so incredibly proud of everything she does. He brags about her all the time in his media interviews and his Picta feed is a love letter to her. 

He often teases her that soon she’ll have her own multi-billion-dollar media empire and he can retire early to become a trophy husband. She thinks he’s being silly and sexy shenanigans ensue when he tries to prove to her that he means it.

I agree, one play-through w nik and play-through w cal so u can have both and double fun to play Nightbound. Glad u enjoyed the book. I personally can't wait for the game sequel project cuz that book really deserves to continue. Hopefully it will happen cuz they need volenteers. Want to continue the adventure and see what happens next. Will MC become royalty now.. like sitting on a throne now? N how are Nik, MC connected w Fate?

Honestly i liked my own first-playthrough of that book but didn't spend diamonds. On my second play-through i soend diamonds an the book got much better cuz u get to learn things that u didn't knew before which was waaaaaay cooler before. Example: The dragon riding, fighting the shapeshifter, the pegasi rescue or Nik's reaction when he saw a kitten which made me: awwww, he likes kittens. Cute.

I like the fae, fairy, magic and Lamrian stuff. Diwa is now royalty too just like TRR MC. I bet both would get along well, have some royal tea time and chat about their gowns and tiara collection. LOL. This makes them cute. Both are like having their own Disney Princess stories. While TRR MC romanced the royalty Prince Liam and didn't know at first that he was a prince. Nik/Cal romance MC royalty too, but no one knew she was royalty before (she didn't knew either).

Question: What other choices books u like? Is TRR ur number 1 fave?

Yeah plus two playthroughs with both romances would help me figure out how the throuple dynamics would work out! Thankfully I'm getting some inkling on how that will happen! I'm hoping the NB sequel pushes through too cause I bet it would be so much fun to explore that! I'm curious if MC will ever get to make a choice between the throne or if they get to just choose a simple life despite their noble Fae blood!

I loved discovering the tears and knowing the stories of each of the characters, it was fun and also made it clear not everything is in black and white which is always a delight.

Honestly, I think Evangeline would be a bit jarred by Diwa cause Evangeline ended up being very reserved at the start of the TRR story while Diwa had always confidently stood by her principles, beliefs and everything despite it pissing off people. Diwa tho would definitely just have her big sister instincts activate with Evangeline since she sees anyone helpless and scared and she'll swoop right in lmao xD

Though now it's tempting to sketch them having tea or a chat together xD Queen Evangeline and a Fae noble woman vibing

What's funny to think of is how Diwa was fine with and fond of her life prior. She was a teacher and she loved it, she has two younger siblings, a doting mother raised with precolonial customs and a loving stepfather who knew of the supernatural and Diwa grew up all the better for it. So her finding out she's royalty among fae? Nope. She's teaching 12 year olds, she can't rule a whole settlement when her own students are enough to keep hsr busy for a year! Needless to say she tried to tell Tialo she's not after the throne but he had his issues that not even her Ate Vibes™ can fix.

I've only just finished TRR AND TRH 1 along with NB so I'd actually rank NB first cause I have biases haha but I'll be trying out Nanny Affair next. If you have suggestions, I'll add it to my reading list!
