i'm so happy you enjoyed the chapter and that it's more clear why neteyam is the way he is!

i don't necessarily think he hates Vi because she's better - i think he always knew she was better and didn't ever mind, i think the hurt and betrayal came as a combination of his dad saying she should be Olo'eykte, and most of all, of her saying she doesn't want to be mated with him, that she could never love him in that way.

Neteyam loved Vi with all his heart, and hearing that broke him. I also think although that was a big reason for why he's this way, in time, his resentment only grew because she almost.. proved him right? I try to hint at it at the end of the chapter but basically in order to deal with her own hurt of being discarded by him, she acted out and leaned into the role of the "villain" almost, so she always flaunted how good she was, always tried to be the Sullys' "favourite", always dated publicly so he could see, which hurt him even more.

With them it's always been such a vicious cycle and a snowball effect, because the more one of them was hurt, they hurt the other, which reinforced the ideas they each had about the other in their heads and made them want to get revenge even more, and so on and so forth.
