I do sort of wish western anime fans would analyze anime and manga from a framework of japanese historical and cultural context. Specifically a lot of works from the 90s being influenced by the general aimlessness and ennui that a lot of people were experiencing due to the burst in the bubble economy and the national trauma caused by the sarin terrorist attack. I think in interacting with media that’s not local to our sociocultural/sociopolitical sphere it’s easy to forget that it’s influenced and shaped by the same kinds of factors that influence media within our own cultural dome and there ends up being this baseline misalignment of perception between the causative elements of a narrative and viewer interpretation of those elements. It’s a form of death of the author that i think, in some measure, hinders our ability to fully understand/come to terms with creator intent and the full scope of a work’s merits

uh, okay. i'm very scared to ask but : rabbit that's not really a rabbit...?
yeah, there's, like. a small god, shaped like a rabbit, that lives in my yard. I would say it's a normal rabbit except it's not. It won't move from my driveway if I'm trying to drive out and it was there first. I can walk up within a few feet of it, and it will turn and just look at me like what do you want? It's the only rabbit that freaks the hell out of all my birds, they CANNOT be directed or communicated with when this rabbit comes around, they will do nothing but stand on alert and stare at it making a soft warning call. I've caught it SEVERAL times now standing nose to nose with one of my peacocks, and it just looks at me and walks away when I catch them. hawks and falcons and eagles and owls constantly pass over my yard, and it is full of rabbits that do not hide from them, and I've never seen evidence of one being taken. You know the moment you walk into a very dark room and maybe it's a room you've been in before and maybe you don't believe in ghosts, but also it's still dark and your little leftover lizard hindbrain goes "anything could be inside of here waiting for me" the second before you turn on the light? It's like that feeling, except in the shape of a rabbit. i didn't ask for any of that.

I'm tired but Danny putting on a Ghost Show.
He's in Gotham, for whatever reason (maybe we go the old Ghost Convention route) and he gets a little too close to a mugging.
In Crime Alley.
He is immediately saved by Red Hood, who uses guns. Who Danny can't fight, or his parents will start putting together a map of where Phantom shows up and eventually realize the correlation.
Aaaaand Red Hood is staring at him.
So like. Shit.
Time to pull a good old fashioned horror movie stunt.
He allows just enough rigor mortis to set in so that every single movement makes horrific cracking sounds.
Moves in a jerky fashion.
Lets his eyes glow and ghostly frost make the temp in the alley plummet.
Drops to one knee.
And starts crawl-dragging himself towards Red Hood, who is frozen where he is.
Is it in fear? Fuck Danny hopes so if Hood shoots him he'll have to drop the act and dodge.
Luckily, Hood is kind enough to stay still until Danny slowly disappears from the visible spectrum.
Then he fucking books it to the hotel.
Jason, meanwhile, is freaking the fuck out because he just saw the younger version of Bruce's ghost crawling towards him in a fashion so scary he's honestly surprised he didn't piss himself.

im reading this manga abt this divorced woman who falls in love with her neighbor and i really love the artists style because the way the artist draws her makes it apparent that theres not only something deeply wrong with her but it veers into looking like a horror manga at points
this lady has a schoolgirl crush and is a total crybaby and she looks like a creature from a junji ito manga

i do think that writers should be aware of the dark topics they're writing about; to me this means that e.g. if you're writing about an abusive relationship, you should know that it is abusive. i don't mean that you need to have a big and important point to make about abuse (especially not a necessarily moralistic one where e.g. the abuser "gets what's coming to them") in order to write it. just like that you should know what you're writing about. otherwise you get batman comics.

continuing on my "Lup and Barry get married every cycle and the ensuing weddings encompass a very wide range of tones" bullshit: consider, if you will, a cycle where they mean to get married early on, they really do. but the hunt for the Light is just so intense, and the time flies by so fast, that they still haven't done it by the time the end is closing in...
and in the final fight for the Light, a little under a month out from the Hunger's arrival, Lup is grievously wounded. she lies in Barry's arms, bleeding out, and with her dying breath, she whispers her final wish:
"reanimate my corpse and put her in a nice dress for the wedding"
and who is Barry to turn down a dying wish from his wife, let alone a dying wish that's that fucking funny, so Barry loyally throws some wedding plans and some necromancy spells together so that Zombie Lup can attend the ceremony. her soul doesn't reside in her body anymore because no one was willing to burn the spell slots on True Resurrection (it's only a month out from resets, come on), but she's very well-behaved as Barry very sincerely declares his eternal love and wiggles this cycle's ring onto her finger.
Taako hates it so much. the energy in the studio is incredibly uncomfortable. Lucretia takes a bunch of photographs of every moment so that Lup can enjoy it later upon respawn. most of the crew eventually looks back and recognizes this instance as the start of the slippery slope that lead to lichdom, but Lup and Barry refuse to acknowledge how fucking weird it was. they will treasure those pictures forever

Ohhhhhhhh shiv’s face when she realized that she’s going to be cut out of the boy’s club AGAIN and this time with a baby she can’t even talk about with her husband without risking being seen as soft … Kerry being humiliated by Marcia and the rest of the family… shiv falling down in front of a room of snickering men… gerri being thrown out as easily as garbage… connor’s mom being talked about less like a human being and more as fodder for a pr campaign…
