it's been a bit hard.

dating an idol as an idol would really seem like the ideal situation, except when it wasn't.

yeah, you had been absolutely ecstatic upon finding out mingyu had been carrying a torch for you for years. you had felt the same, only ever entertaining your other friends' flirting out of mere desperation for the man to finally notice you. after he suddenly blew up, declaring his love for you, you thought it'd just be smooth sailing from here, except you hadn't really thought much past that.

maybe you were being unreasonable. i mean, you had never dated a fellow idol before! maybe it was all in your head. or maybe you just weren't too used to the dynamic just yet. you weren't too sure. but you had no idea how much longer you could take watching mingyu flirt his way through life anymore.

fans, staff, other idols, male or female, you name it. mingyu simply had an overly flirtatious demeanor towards absolutely everyone. you, personally, always kept a very clear line in fan service, or any other type of flirtatious scenarios (sans your previous attempts to make mingyu jealous). mingyu did not afford you the same courtesy, consistently following requests to call fans his girlfriends and even going as far as initiating the flirting in both fancalls and physical fan meetings. okay, maybe this was something you could put up with. these interactions were very short lived, so they never went too out of hand, but these were not his only offenses.

you looked past the flirting with idols, chalking it up to being played up for the cameras for entertainment purposes. you looked away whenever it went far enough to have fans speculating online. you knew idols were professionals at delivering fan service, always wanting to give people something to talk about. hell, you did it too! this was a bit annoying to watch, but you trusted your boyfriend and your idol colleagues, so you let it slide. it was other things that were harder to look past.

was there any need for him to flirt up a storm among all the female staff members? he was behind the scenes, for fucks sake! there were no cameras nor any benefit from entertaining their giggles and subtle touches of his muscles as they pretended to be interested in what he was saying. you knew your boyfriend probably didn't realize that he was flirting, having simply grown too used to doing it that it was second nature to him by now, but it was still frustrating! specially when no one knew that mingyu was taken. as far as any of his staff members knew, mingyu was still just your best friend, and any sighting of the two of you together (always accompanied by another member of the 97s or a fellow group mate of his to avoid suspicion) was always assumed to be strictly platonic. even now, as you walked into his dressing room, only to find his stylist - and a few of the members' stylists - flocking around him as he told some stupid joke that probably wasn't even funny.

it was sickening, really. the way none of them saw how desperate they came off. how none of them realized that if they all flirted with him at once, it truly had no effect, as he wouldn't pay special attention to any of them in particular. you felt like a hater, but being real, you were starting to become one. you watched him for a good five minutes, wondering if he'd ever notice your presence from across the room. when he did, he immediately went over to you, cutting off any of the girls who had been flirting with him in favor of welcoming you. he was amicable, giving you a simple hug. but his eyes told a different story. anyone who knew mingyu knew those eyes were reserved for his loved ones. that made you calm down a bit, even hugging him back and daring a short peck on the cheek.

today was yet another shoot at the hybe building. you had the fortune of belonging to the same company as your boyfriend, which meant you could stop by whenever you wanted (as long as you kept a low profile). you'd often drag jungkook along with you for appearances' sake, but had decided to go solo today. gyu was clearly happy to see you, interrupting his stylists to take a quick breather with you, heading over to one of the empty changing rooms and finally indulging you with less platonic affection.

"baby! wasn't expecting you today?", despite that, he was clearly enthusiastic to see you, attached to you like a magnet now that he had locked the door behind you, making sure no one was around to see his affections towards you.

"yeah, clearly ..." you couldn't help but grumble, disconnecting yourself from him.

mingyu didnt give you much of a chance to create distance between you, immediately holding onto you again, this time by wrapping his arms around your waist, yours instinctively leaning against his hard chest.

"baby, what's wrong? what do you mean?", a pout made its way to his face. of course he was unsuspecting. the mingyu you knew was far too into you to ever seriously hit on someone else when he had you.

you responded with a sigh, "mingyu, do you have to flirt with every girl you meet?"

"w-what? what are you talking about?"

"did you seriously not notice all those girls giggling at every word you said? they all want you, gyu. and you never put a stop to it."

"i dont .. the stylists? baby, ive never flirted with anyone in our staff, what? i work with them, of course i'm nice, but its always strictly platonic, you know that."

"the fact that you dont even realize it!", you separated yourself from him again, facing away and crossing your arms across your chest like a petulant child.

"baby ..."

"no, gyu. i'm not in the mood. i came to see you, but again, you're hitting on some other girl."

he wrapped his arms around you for the third time now, pulling your back to his chest as he nuzzled his face on the crook of your neck. he was trying to break you down before you even managed to get fully angry at him

"gyu ..." you whined, but still angled your neck for hin to keep kissing, leaning against his hold.

"yeah, pretty? i'll tell the whole world. it's just you for me," he paused, letting out a quiet chuckle as he shook his head, "it's kinda funny, though. now you know how i felt any time the boys would flirt with you."

"gyu! how is it my fault they liked me? and i only flirted with jungkook one time before we were ever together."

"and? still hated seeing you with anyone else. you're mine. you've always been."

he turned you around then, holding you close to him as he looked into your eyes. he smiled at you, kissing your nose before chuckling at your whines of annoyance at him. even when you wanted to be mad at him you couldnt. he'd always turn the situation around and swoon you somehow.

"let me show you, baby? show you that you're mine? maybe we can show those mean mean stylists too, huh?", okay, he was just teasing you now, lips drawn way too close to yours as he ran his hands up and down your back.

"gyu ..." you whined, making no effort to actually pull away.

"you'll let me. won't you, baby?" his eyes were glued to your lips, in a similar fashion to your own. you knew he could tell how badly you wanted him to close the gap, but you refused to make the first move. then he'd win. he'd be the voice of reason, which was something you just couldn't have.

"c'mon baby, just kiss me. you know you wanna. dont you wanna show them ill all yours? maybe leave your lipstick print all over my face for them to clean up? give me a hickey to- hmph!"

you had to shut him up eventually. he was driving you crazy. but he was also right. knowing you could make a statement about your relationship without actually having to explicitly say anything about it sounded too good to pass up, so you might've gone a little extra nastier with your kissing, running your lips all over his mouth, letting your tongue do all the work for you. mingyu had no complaints, even turning pliant under your touch.

hey. i know you’re probably asleep right now but could you come over?

It was far too late at night when you sent the text. A question asked on a whim, an offer that would most likely go ignored due to the boy on the other end being asleep.

But goddammit, you really didn’t care. Even if he didn’t respond, just hitting ‘send’ made you feel slightly better. You had already taken refuge in one of the sweatshirts he had left at your house (read: one that you had stolen and refused to give back) and as your eyes fell on the glow of the digital clock on your bedside table, you were once again reminded of how stupid this was.

But you heard the telltale buzz of a notification and all but lunged for your phone, an uncontrollable smile tugging on your lips. You didn’t know why you ever doubted him.

A pair of fuzzy socks and a refilled water bottle later, you heard the sound of something hitting your window. Though you tensed up at first, a roll of your eyes was all it took before you remembered just who you had invited over. Another smile took over as you pushed yourself off of your bed, pushing the curtains aside in time to see another pebble hit the pane.

A physical effort took place to stifle the laugh as you pushed your window up, and you leaned against the sill on your elbows to get a better look at your ridiculous boyfriend.

“Throwing rocks at my window? I think I’m stuck in a bad romcom.”

He grinned and let the remaining pebbles fall to the ground. “It’s what’s to be expected from your Prince Charming, right? Besides, I’m assuming that your parents wouldn’t just let me walk through the front door at this hour.”

You felt the heat rise to your cheeks. Just the sight of Sokka was always enough to make you feel better, and tonight was no exception. The vice on your heart was already starting to loosen. “Right as usual. Think you’ll catch me if I jump?”

He laughed and made a show of looking up and down the distance and then at his arms. “I’d like to say so, but I think we’d have better luck if I climb up.”

“You sure you can do that, big guy?” you asked with a teasing grin. He rolled his eyes with the same sentiment.

“Of course I can. I just thank nature that there’s a tree so close to your window. It’s saved me from a lot of embarrassing falls.”

You chuckled and backed away from the window, the slight chill from the night air beginning to get to you. “I’ll leave you to it while I get things ready.”

Truth be told, your room was a total mess at the moment. You knew Sokka wouldn’t care, especially not now, but it put you slightly more at ease to have something in your life that you could control. You were in the middle of shoving some previously strewn-about clothes into your closet when you heard the click of your window closing. When you turned around, you were met with your boyfriend’s smiling face.

“You’re so pretty,” you murmured as you walked over to him. He wrapped his arms around your waist as you kissed him lightly on the lips, unable to stop the blossoming smile nor the warmth that the action gave you. “Thank you for being here.”

“Of course.” The softness of his words were in stark contrast to the joking bravado from only minutes earlier, and as you stepped away from his embrace and pushed yourself onto your bed, he joined you on the other side. “And not that I’m not happy to be here, but I just wanna know. What’s going on?”

You sighed, letting one leg hang off the bed as you tucked the other in. It was a testament to Sokka’s power how quickly he had gotten you to forget about the new mess of the night. “The usual showing of fuckall and fuckup. I’m more impressed by how they never run out of things to scream at each other about.”

Your bad joke didn’t get a laugh out of him, which you were secretly glad for. Instead, he snaked an arm around your back and tugged you closer, a contented sigh falling from your lips as you nestled your head into the space between his shoulder and his head. “I’m sorry,” he murmured. “You know it’s not your fault, right?”

The phrase had gone in one ear and out the other more times than you could count from your parents, but each time Sokka said it, the words held a different weight. You knew it wasn’t your fault in the first place, but guilt didn’t care all that much for logic. You knew he meant it though, and once more the vice loosened.

“I know. But it still helps to hear it.” You glanced up at him, reaching a hand up to twist a loose strand of his hair around your finger. “You should wear your hair down more often,” you mused. “It makes you look like a prince.”

He chuckled, amusement glinting through his ocean eyes. “I did say I was your Prince Charming, didn’t I?”

You smiled, slowly uncurling his hair from your finger. “Yeah.”

“That means I’ll always be there for you. Especially to save my royal from their evil stepparents.”

Another laugh bubbled in your chest at that, and you leaned closer into him. “Thank you. The more I visit your place, the more I want your family to be mine. Hakoda is like, the nicest man I’ve ever met, and your mom? She actually makes me want to cry with how sweet she is. I think I know where you get it from.”

He grinned and bumped your leg with his own. “You know you’re welcome over there any time. But maybe you shouldn’t — I think my mom might actually adopt you with how much she loves you. That… that would be really weird.”

His joy was infectious as you planted another kiss on his cheek, something that earned you a, as you liked to call it, dazzling Signature Sokka Smile. “I’ll make sure she holds off on the adoption papers for now.”

“I’d like that.”

And though the happiness you felt at the moment was almost overwhelming, that was just what caused that tiny sliver of doubt to come in. When people invited their partners over at three in the morning, it usually wasn’t to sit on the bed and talk about their problems. It was… it was for more, and you didn’t want that right now. And because you were an expert at it, you decided to put your foot in your mouth and start talking.

“I— I’m sorry that I called you over here so late, for no reason. I know you probably expected something else than me ranting, but…” you sighed, drawing your knees closer to your chest as you brought your other hand to Sokka’s resting on your shoulder. “I’m sorry if I gave you the wrong idea.”

He sighed at that, but you knew it wasn’t one of disappointment. “You know I’m here for you. I don’t care if you just want to sit in silence for the next five hours while we stare at the wall, or if you want to watch sappy rom coms until your eyes bleed. I’m more than okay with staying like this. I didn’t come over here because I expected anything from you — I came over here because you needed me, and so I’m here.” Sokka smiled, an image you didn’t think would ever stop making you melt, and intertwined your hand with his. “This is perfect. You’re perfect.”

You were so stunned at the brazen declaration that your voice got stuck in your throat for a moment, holding back tears. (Happy tears. They were never anything other than happy tears with Sokka.) It hit you then that you didn’t really know what it was like having someone get close to you without an ulterior motive.

“Thank you,” you murmured after a moment of comfortable silence. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” You knew he was smiling, even without having to look up at him. You could hear it in his voice, feel it in the kiss he pressed to your hairline.

A comfortable silence hung in the air for a long time until you broke it. “You know… my dad kinda ran off to a motel for the night after this whole thing, and my mom leaves early in the morning. If you were serious about those rom coms…” You allowed the unsaid question of staying the night to fester so Sokka knew he could say no if he wanted to, but he didn’t even hesitate.

“Of course I was serious. I mean, I’ve gotta get the ideas for our future wedding from somewhere.”

You laughed, a sentiment that had occurred more times in the ten minutes he had been here than the past week, and picked the remote for your little box TV off of your bedside table. You clicked through various movies until you found one Sokka liked, and then you cuddled deeper into his side to prepare for the ride you had ahead of you.

Thirty minutes into 27 Dresses, he had fallen asleep, arm still around you and one of his legs slightly intertwined with one of your own. But it’s not like you minded — the familiar weight of Sokka in your bed had caused all your worries to melt away, if only for the night.

You didn’t expect him to last past the first movie, but you were sure you would at least get through until Katherine Heigl got the man. But there was an overwhelming feeling of safety permeating the air with Sokka’s arms around you, and you ended up knocked out before she could even get through all twenty seven dresses.

It wasn’t lost on you how fortunate you were — he didn’t expect anything like that from you, he just wanted you to be safe. He was there for you. You would never understand how you had gotten so lucky with your boyfriend, but you would never stop being grateful for him.

"i'll be your reason to fight." Drarry maybe? Im a simple person

“I don’t understand why the cutest people are always taken,” Jean said, his bottom lip protruding out in a out. It was cute, in an adolescent way, that made Harry laugh. Jean had insisted on walking him through the market, again, as Jean usually did. Harry had told his friend that he was taken, since Jean had seemed to actively try to prove him wrong. 

They were an odd couple to see down the fair streets of Auvers-Sur-Oise. Harry wasn’t too tall, standing proudly at 5′11, whereas Jean stood at a towering 6′4. Where Harry was dark and exotic, as his neighbors often would tell him, Jean looked entirely french. He was tall and gangly, with dark curly hair and fair skin. He looked a lot like Cedric, Harry would notice one day as Jean read to him from a cheesy book of poetry. They looked like polar opposites, but they got along swimmingly. 

Harry had allowed the flirting to continue because he found it harmless. His heart belonged to someone else who was spending 5 months in England with his family. And Jean was kind and attentive and he made Harry feel less lonely, less like an anomaly. So, Jean flirted, Harry would smack him and laugh, and they would spend the days together. 

They were, at the time Jean made this proclamation, standing in front of a flower cart. Harry was eyeing the blossoms skeptically, having read too many books about unknown poison or carnivorous plants. Jean, however, was smelling every single kind of flower, sighing in content after every sniff. Jean often insisted that Harry had to have flowers in his house, to make him feel like it was spring, that it was warm. Harry agreed.

“I’m sorry, Jean. If I wasn’t me, and we weren’t where we are right now WHEN we are, it might have worked.” Harry countered, smiling.

“Wrong place, wrong time?” Jean queried, his eyebrow lifted in amusement. “That’s the argument you’re going with.”

Harry laughed. “Truly, if we had met even just a few years ago, then things might have been different. But you know how it is.”

Jean waved him off. “Yes, yes, I know. The whole enemies to lovers moment you’ve had with your lover. I hope he knows just how lucky he is. If you weren’t so besotted with him, I would have whisked you away to my home and used all of my french powers of seduction on you.” He pulled a flower out and waved it dramatically in front of Harry’s face. The shorter boy swatted at it, trying to act annoyed.

“Your french powers of seduction aren’t all that they’re cracked up to be, you know.”

Jean gasped, his hand against his heart. “I will have you know, Monsieur Potter, that I have never heard such a complaint about them. Your love is clouding your judgement.”

With another roll of his eyes, Harry snatched the flower that Jean had been waving, as well as several others that compliments the color quite well. When he had enough, he paid the kind woman behind the stand and continued on his way, Jean trailing behind him. 

“What are those for?” he queried, looking at the flowers in Harry’s hands. “So many today. Much more than usual.”

“Buy me lunch, Jean, and I’ll show you.” It was a trick that Harry had learned fast as Jean’s friend. He couldn’t stand to miss any chance to eat. So, Jean grabbed onto Harry’s arm and pulled him to a nearby cafe, ordering their midday meals, and watched as Harry began weaving the flowers together.

“I learned this from a dear friend of mine,” Harry explained, pulling a white flower between the yellow and blue ones he had just knotted together. “She had a love of making flowers wearable. She would braid them into her hair, make necklaces and even belts from them. She never stopped wearing flowers.” Memories of Luna floated into his mind, of her explaining that muggles’ love for flowers was not misplaced, as so many insisted. They simply saw beauty differently. Ginny had sent him a few photos of the two of them, Luna sporting a flower crown in every single one. “After spending any amount of time with her, you can’t help but pick a few things up.”

Jean had laughed and watched over his coffee cup as Harry wove the flowers. He would never admit it to Harry who had become such a dear friend to him, but he felt such a longing toward him that he didn’t even mind remaining his friend as long as Harry stayed around. Jean, of course, wanted more. But he bit back his remarks of admiration and tried to keep it friendly.

As Harry weaved the last of the flowers together and they had eaten the last bit of food on their plates, they both stood to say their goodbyes. “I don’t know how I’ll ever go back to England,” Harry murmured, feeling full. “Food there doesn’t even begin to compare.”

“Then you shall have to stay here forever,” Jean declared, placing Harry’s flower crown atop his head and kissed both of his cheeks. “Until tomorrow, Minou!” And then Jean was gone.

Harry rolled his eyes once again, a habit when Jean was around. But he felt affection swell up in him. Jean was a large reason why Harry had felt so content here, felt like he could belong in this small town. He wished he could give him what he wanted, but a pair of silver eyes flashed into his mind and knew he never could. 

With a sigh, he tucked the flower crown further into his hair and headed toward his home. The spring sun was filtering down among the trees and the road was entirely clear. There were people sitting out in front of their homes, drinking and chatting and soaking up the sun. He waved to a few he recognized and they called out in greeting.

If you had asked him if he was planning to remain in France, at first he would have said no. It was just a temporary blip in his life to recover and regain his strength after the war. But after staying there for so long, as he was coming up on a year of living there, he was tempted to change his mind. There was a feeling of peace that filled him here that he had never had anywhere else. 

He turned the corner and pulled out his keys to open up the door, but stopped when a pair of black shoes came into his view. His eyes followed the shoes, and they were attached to a pair of legs, attached to a torso, attached to a pair of crossed arms, and finally a head covered in almost white hair. It was...

“Draco?”

Harry felt his heart swell at the presence of his boyfriend and made a movement to go to him, but something in Draco’s face stopped him. 

Draco wasn’t looking at him, his eyes trained to something to the right of Harry, but Harry knew there wasn’t anything of notice there. “I see,” Draco started, his voice strained, “I see that I might have been gone too long.”

“Wh-What do you mean?”

“If you had wanted to see other people, Potter, you should have just said.”

Harry blinked. “Other people? What are you talking about?”

“Don’t be daft. The way you two were carrying on, it was obvious there was something between you. I just wish you had sent a letter or something, and saved me the trip.” Draco began to push past him, but Harry was slowly piecing together the puzzle of Draco’s assumptions. He reacted so fast that he barely thought about it. With a swift movement, He had Draco pressed up against the front door. He reached his hand that was holding his keys into the lock and unlocked the door. When that was complete, he wrenched the door open and shoved Draco inside.

Draco was protesting, trying to struggle, but Harry ignored him. He kicked the door shut behind him and dropped the keys onto the floor unceremoniously. He continued to push against his boyfriend until his back was against the wall. Without another word, Harry had his mouth on his, kissing him with a fervency that he didn’t know he had. Draco tried to resist, tried to hit Harry away from him, but he was unsuccessful in his attempts. And then, his arms were wrapped around Harry’s waist, pulling him closer. And Harry had his hands framing his face, his kisses becoming deeper and insistent. They remained that way, biting at each other, exploring each other, keeping each other in place. 

When Harry felt his breath coming in short gasps, he pulled back and rested his head against Draco’s. Between pants, he said, “You’re daft, Malfoy. But I’m so happy to see you, I hardly care.” And then he kissed him again, swift and chaste before opening his eyes to look at Draco. His pale skin was flushed and his lips were red, his eyes lidded. 

“His name is Jean,” Harry whispered. “He lives in town, working in the bookshop. He’s kind and good and my friend, but it’s not like that. I’ve made that entirely clear to him. I don’t know what you thought you saw, but I promise it wasn’t right.”

Draco groaned and pressed his lips against Harry’s, as if trying to console himself. “I’ve been having to explain my every move for months, always looking for double meanings and snide undertones. It’s been exhausting,” Draco murmured, pain in his voice. “Everything has felt like this huge battle and every day was just another fight. And when I saw you with... with him, and he put this on your head,” his long fingers flicked at the flower crown that Harry had forgotten about almost entirely, “Well, I assumed that the only thing I had been fighting for all these months had given up on me too.”

Harry shook his head, wrapping his arms around Draco’s waist and pulling him close. “Nope. I don’t know if you’ve been made aware, Malfoy, but I’m rather stubborn. I don’t have a tendency to give up on anything.”

There was an emotion in the grey eyes, staring at the green ones, that looked very much like sadness and Harry worried about the treatment that Draco had received the past few months of their separation. He reached up and ran his thumb across Draco’s high cheekbone. “If you’re fighting battles and facing demons, than I’ll happily be your reason to fight,” Harry said the words almost reverently, like a vow. “As long as you keep coming back to me, I’ll still be here.”

Draco sighed. “You are stubborn,” he muttered, but he felt gratitude seep into ever inch of him. 

“I am,” Harry agreed.

“Sorry for assuming.”

“Sorry you’ve had such a shitty time of it.”

“I’m glad you’re still here,” this came out as a whisper.

“I’m glad you came back,” Harry replied, just as softly. And then, as if he couldn’t help himself anymore, he pushed himself up and met Draco’s lips, his fingers moving to find and undo the buttons of his shirt. He kicked off his shoes, and Draco copied him, and Harry started moving them back, without separating their lips, toward his bedroom.

But the flower crown stayed on.

The Legion (Frank Morrison)

Frank, in all honesty, doesn’t give a flying crap about how you look. To him, if you can make him laugh or you amuse him in the slightest, he already likes you. The only looks or appearances he does care about are his own, he’s gotta look badass 24/7, no exceptions. But he does like that you are shorter than him (not a lot of people are so you are a rarity). He likes to tease you and put his elbow on your shoulder or head.

“I need my walking stick.” His eyes would trail over to you. Cue you trying to walk around with the boy hanging onto you, grumbling like an old man. You contrasted him exactly to the T

Frank is absolutely fascinated by your artistic abilities. You have a real talent and he enjoys both watching your process and seeing the finished project. Talent like yours was hard to come by, he sort of envied you for it. If only he had that kind of something that made him special that would have made those foster parents interested in him. But that time for developing uniqueness has passed and now, all he has is you.

You shared your talent with him and he felt extremely special when you would ask him what to sketch next. Frank would pull Suzie over and set her up in a position he imagines to be cool. He would pause, inspect Suzie’s bad form then huff and begin to rearrange her limbs until she was just right. “That's nice.” He’d comment over your shoulder. You’d tell him you didn't like being watched like that while you work and he’d sigh and reluctantly shuffle away. Not even 5 minutes later he would be back standing over you. You would just have to deal with him. He wasn’t judging you or your skills rather he just wanted to watch and marvel at how easy you made it look.

“Okay, now give her a huge dick.” Both Suzie and you would gasp. “Frank! No! That's too disgusting.” A moment of silence. “How big?”

Frank noticed right away when you would start to feel insecure. When you would flatly refuse to take out your sketchbook regardless of what ridiculous poses Suzie would make for you. You were quiet, eyes downwards and shoulder slumping as if you were trying to make yourself somehow smaller than you already were. Frank’s by no means an emotional guy but seeing you so downtrodden, so determined to sink into the background really tore at his heartstrings. He would pull you aside, taking you far away from the others until you two were alone. You wouldn’t look at him, your arms wrapped around yourself. “It’s not just the art.” He was guessing but already he knew he was right. You wouldn’t even offer him a nod afraid that by doing so you would be labeled as someone digging for feigned sympathy.

This was so difficult for Frank. He didn’t know how to comfort you or how to make you feel better. He also didn’t understand where this sudden insecurity came from. To him you perfect and talented and such a good person. You had a kind heart which you would share with those around you and that's all he really cared about. You were good to him. He couldn’t think of anything to say so instead he walked closer to you and slowly placed your hand between his. You momentarily looked up at him and you saw his eyes flicker behind his mask. He squeezed your hand, his words failing but his contact and pressure making up for it. He was trying to be reassuring and you appreciated it. He’d only ever hold your hand and that was something to be gratefully for.

In that time alone he asked you to take out your sketchbook. You did and he steps away, releasing one hand from yours. He reaches up and hesitantly takes off his mask. “Draw me.” You were stuck, in awe of his face and the significance of this moment. Frank never takes his mask off, not completely anyway. This must really mean something to him, YOU must really mean something. A wave of unsureness washed over you and you lost all confidence in your skill. He saw you slip away again and he squeezed his hand. “Hey.” He makes you look at him, his face gentle and his attention focused solely on you. “I believe in you. You are good. You got this.” And that's all you needed to hear. You got the feeling that he was talking about more than just your drawing skills. If he believed in you then everything was okay. You were alright. “Besides. It can’t be worse than the original.”

Dwight Fairfield

Like Frank, Dwight doesn't really care about your outward appearances. Well, it's not that he doesn't care it’s more that he just in a constant state of shock that anyone at all is interested in him. He’s always amazed when you sit next to him specifically or when you want to talk to him and actually listen to what he says. No one has ever really given him that kind of attention before and now you’re here beside him eagerly wanting to hear how his day was or what he was feeling. Dwight was just grateful to have someone as kind and loving as you were to even notice him.

He was beyond blown away by your artistic talents. You can sketch killers from memory and Dwight always finds himself in awe of how detailed and accurate the drawing was. You were so creative and special, the thing he was never. He looked to you and saw everything he could never be or never was. But you didn’t shove your achievements in his face, you didn't flaunt your talents like some egotistical morons would. You were humble and his compliments never went straight to your head. You looked so good when you were kind and modest. He liked how ordinary you were regardless of how awesome you appeared to him.

You’d often ask to draw him and he would blush and look away. Why would you want to draw him? The most boring of all the other survivors. But you were insistent and eventually, he’d cave. If only you had a red pencil because his cheeks were always hot and flushed. He could never make eye contact with you while you worked on him so expect a lot of side profiles or closed eye portraits.

In trials together his heart would all but break at the sight of you getting hurt. Whenever he’d hear your cries as you’d be slammed onto a meat hook he would gasp and practically feel something inside him cry out along with you. You were too good for this. He was a nobody, a weak, pathetic nobody who deserved to be in this purgatory because he was too scared to try and live a normal life. This was his punishment for being so forgettable. But you... he just couldn’t understand it.

Once he had jumped between you and your pursuer taking the hit and aggression while you ran off to go heal. For once in his life he felt happy, he felt as if he had finally done something meaningful and good. He had saved you. He would have died for you as well but you never let that happen. He watched in utter shock and disbelief as, against all odds, you went back for him. You pulled the man off his hook and with shaking hands you pressed his head into yours. Both your foreheads with touching and you had your hand at the back of his head.

“Don’t ever do that again.” He felt you waver and suddenly he realized that you were scared for him. He felt your urgency and terror and it was all directed towards him and his safety. He could have cried.

Dwights not the brightest bulb in the pack so forgive him but it will take a while for him to realize that you were insecure. He just assumed that when you started isolating yourself from him that it was because you had found someone much better than him. But he noticed that your hands still shook whenever you’d see him in pain and you would always be by his side the moment he needed help. You still cared for him deeply and he could feel it through your desperate actions and your desolate expression.

He walked over to your spot at the campfire. No one was near you, all were chased away by your depressing aura. You were dark and dying, everything around you was heavy with despair and sorrow yet he pushed through it all. He clawed away that thick fog and finally came to rest by your side. You didn't even look at him as he approached.

“Y-You don’t draw anymore.” No response. He hesitated unsure of how best to comfort you. He looked over and saw your hands. They were so small and gentle yet they produced such amazing things. He missed seeing you alive as you worked, the happiest you had ever been. He reached out and took your hands in his. This was the most forward he had ever been with you and it caught you by surprise. You turned to face him and you saw pain in his eyes.

“I-I’m sorry.” he paused and looked away, ashamed. “I’m sorry I took so long to notice.”

Dwight really did feel sorry. He felt like he had abandoned you, leaving you vulnerable and alone with the true killer; yourself. This time you felt his hands shake.

Dwight wasn’t much but he was yours and he loves you. And he loved you so much to maybe even make up for your own lack of self-love. You sighed and rested your head on his shoulder. He was enough.

“Please draw me again. I-I promise I won’t look away this time.” How could you refuse him?

Jake Park

Jake’s a simple man. He knows the silence of the world and prefers it to the company of people. So when you start to hang out with him or show interest in his life he is pretty unresponsive. He expected you to eventually lose curiosity in him and leave him alone with the woods. But you didn’t.

You’d follow him around, asking questions and receiving minimal answers. You would ask him what to draw and when you were done he would just glance at the sketch then nod or huff. He was certainly a very difficult and cold man.

You would draw many things for him, be it crows or plants or sometimes even killers. And he would always show an extreme lack of interest in them. So you decide to stop showing him. The two of you would sit in a quiet spot in the woods, you sketching and him wondering why you were still trying so hard to be friends with him.

You were working on a portrait when you were, without warning, whisked off into a trial. You quickly shoved your art into your pocket and set to work trying to escape. Jake was in the trial with you and you gladly worked on gen with him. Minutes later everyone was dying and only 2 generators had been lit. It wasn’t looking so good but the only thing you were worried about was your precious item in your pocket. It was something that you were really proud of and, to be dead honest, it was one of the best pieces of art you had made in a long time. You were afraid to die and lose it. But... it really didn’t look like you were getting out of this one.

You caught Jake in a corner, injured but not making a noise. You approached him and he reached out ready to tend to your wounds. You shook your head and crouched next to him trying to catch your breath. Your hand went into your pocket and pulled out your folded artwork. he eyed it unsure.

“I know you don’t care about my bad drawings but,” you held it out for him to take. “please, this one’s for you.” You quickly ran off, too embarrassed to be there when he opened it.

He was frozen for a moment, confused as to what just happened. He did care about your drawings. You were talented and he really enjoyed when you included him. Why would you think that he wouldn’t like them? He turned his attention back to the paper. With a bloody hand, he carefully unfolded it and was shocked to find a portrait of him. It was so beautiful, delicate lines used to define his face and his far-off expression and for a second he couldn’t believe it was him. It was so well done. How could you be ashamed of showing him this? He loved it. He looked up and saw you run off and his heart run with you. He was suddenly hit with his suppressed love for you. You were patient and kind and your small stature always made him wonder how anyone could hurt something so cute. He escaped that trial along with your picture. He, unfortunately, couldn’t save you.

Later at your spot in the woods, he approached you. He presented your art and you gasped. “How’d you get that!?” You reached out to take it back. “I’m sorry! It’s...” your cheeks flushed with embarrassment. He must think you are such a creep, drawing bad pictures of him without his knowledge.  You clutched the paper to your chest and felt a wave of hot insecurity flood over you. But Jake never let you drown.

“It’s really good,” Jake said, his voice the most emotional and vibrant it had ever been. “I’m sorry if I never expressed my appreciation of it.” He put a hand on your shoulder. “You’re really good... to me. And,” he paused letting go for a moment and taking a deep breath. “I’m sorry I’ve been so distant. Thank you for sticking around.” It wasn’t much but it was the best he could do. There was a deep-rooted honestly in his confession and it pulled at your heart.

It wasn’t enough to make you feel better but it was a start. With Jake, it is a journey of recovery, not a once-off end-all fix. But he was good at consistency and was always there the moment your fears reared their ugly heads. He was warm and solid, grounding both himself and you in the world.

POSITIVE 20 QUESTIONS TAG GAME

ily @hopeisthewholepoint i was doing this a while ago and then the draft didn’t save so this is about 30 years late by now whopps. ily thanks for tagging me tho. ❤

1. Name 4 fictional characters who showcase your personality the best, with explanations if you want.

My girl Edrisa Tanaka from Prodigal Son bc we’re both socially awkward but at least she’s unapologetic about it. I want to say I have Sam Wilson’s humor and I too do what everyone else does just slower. Raymond Holt because I love fluffy bois and I’m down to fight anyone who says anything bad about my pets. Ben Wyatt because we’re both human disasters and I like making dumb stuff when I’m bored.  

2. Aesthetic

Playing pool terribly with friends, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, colorful rain jackets. Balloons, music playing from car radios, collecting movie ticket stubs. Painted nails, open windows, and fish stamps on postcards. The smell of fresh basil.

3. Favorite musical/play? (If you’ve never seen a musical or play, one you’d be interested in seeing?)

Come from Away. Hands down. Though I will say I saw recordings of the National Theater’s Frankensteins recently and both are very good but the Miller-as-the-creature version is especially good.

4. What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?

Okay this is a bit of an unfair question bc I die at any and all compliments. But one that I thought of today /a couple days ago/ a long time ago when i started writing this that made me happy again was when someone I'm in a club with let me borrow his camera to take pictures during a performance. I hadn't taken pictures in a while and I had so much fun and I don't really contribute to the club so I finally felt like I had purpose. It was hard to see how they came out on the camera but the next time I saw him he said they came out really well and someone else said that he's normally picky when it comes to photos but he liked mine so that made me feel even better and it was overall a very nice time. It wasn't even really the compliment (I mean, it still was but) it was also just the gesture to offer a camera when he heard I liked taking pictures. I didn't have my camera with me until after this and it really made me remember how much I liked it. Anyways he graduated and hasn't been in the club since last semester so I never see him but it made me v happy.

5. How many times have you been in love?

Miss me with that romantic love but I fall in love with friends and people and every little thing everyday.

6. Embarrassing story or fact about yourself that makes you laugh now?

Bold of you to assume I've recovered from anything embarrassing ever.

This is a bit of a cheat bc it was always funny but my middle school PE uniforms had words and definitions on the back of the shirts (no i don’t know why) and mine said “final: adj. last in place” or something like that and you know what? it was RIGHT.

7. Favorite Disney/Pixar movie?

Probably Up. Idk I don’t really have one.

8. Favorite flower or plant?

Probably triostar plants because they’re cute and pink.

9. What’s your favorite holiday?

Halloween 🎃! I love the idea that kids are going bonkers and getting candy and having a good time. And I love that it gives not-children people a chance to dress up and have fun and take themselves less seriously for a day.

10. Name three things that made you laugh or smile this past week.

This meme dee just sent me a minute ago. I had a socially-distant dinner with a couple of my friends whomst I love a lot on Saturday and it was very nice to see their beautiful faces in person again and I love them a lot. Time isn’t real I don’t know what happened this week. I set up the Xbox again and I’ve played a little little bit of Assassins Creed (which Im very bad at) and Skyrim (which im only a little bad at) and that’s been fun. Bonus answer of dee, nina, and I have been watching 911: Lone Star together and it’s v v fun.

11. What song would you play to introduce yourself to someone?

That is way too hard of a question to definitively answer. My music taste varies so wildly and my favorite song is usually the one I've obsessively listened to the last. Using that logic: Bang! by AJR or Wake Me by Bleachers. Or Chris Martin’s cover of Shelter from the Storm by Bob Dylan. Yeah. The last one.

12. Name something that truly makes you feel peaceful even at your most stressed moments.

Being a passenger in a car with music playing though that doesn’t really happen when I’m stressed. I wouldn’t say peaceful because when I’m not good at that when I’m stressed and most of the time when I’m stressed I have too much stress inside of me so I would rather get it out than be peaceful. So I just put earbuds in and listen to music too loudly so I don’t have to hear anything around me and I can just sort of release all pent up energy with the music and calm down.

13. What do you, did you, or would you study at college?

I’m studying film! I’m technically undeclared but I’m hoping to declare soon. :-). Yes I’m going to be unemployed and leech off of dee for the rest of our lives thanks for asking.

14. This is kind of a weird one, but which outfit of yours makes you feel most like yourself?

Um. Definitely sneakers (by default my white ones because I only have one pair) because I like being able to Move. Same reason for my black pants bc they’re not restricting at all and comfy. And then probably my gray sweatshirt which dee will murder me for saying bc it means I have zero (0) colors in my outfit but it comfy. I like having colors but I feel more comfortable in more neutral colors.

15. What is a quote you live by?

Oof oof I don’t know. I think there are a lot of quotes I want to live by and then I forget about them so if I am living by a specific quote, it’s not consciously. I reblog a lot I like to my words tag or text tag, and this one:

explains me very well. I don’t know that it’s something I live by because it’s just a state of my existence but it me.

I wish I had funnier playlist names. One of them is living room couch alone for a very specific mood when it's after 10 o'clock and everyone else is asleep and I'm in the living room alone on the couch and I'm not tired and time doesn't feel real. It's a good mood. I also have one called new york times which isn't funny I just like it.

17. Make a reference to an inside joke you have with someone you love with zero context.

18. What is a message you would give your younger self if given the chance?

Stop overthinking and start doing. You can’t sit at home sad your friends aren’t hanging out with you if you never ask them to hang out. Initiate things. Its not as scary as it seems. Also for the love of all things holy please form good habits now. Form all the good habits I have none and I’m tired.

19. Who is your favorite family member? (If you have no good blood family members, feel free to mention someone in your found family)

20. What’s a secret dream of yours?

Um lol to not be alone. To be employed doing something I enjoy and make enough money to support myself. If I put lol will this sound less sad.

John – Dwon Fai – MonkAfter another nights stay in the Winged Wyvern the group decided to set off for Thundertree as they had time to burn waiting on Father Fay. As they were walking out of town Darvin was playing with his wand (DM Note; not a euphemism) idly waving it in the air and muttering to himself.

“Do you have a command word for it yet?” Eriden asked.

“Well considering the fact he was our healer and we’ll probably never see him again… I was thinking Chance.”

The group laughed and were chatting amiably when out of a side street wandered up Galath, looking rather sheepish with Gauvain in tow a few steps behind them, they were both ignoring the curious looks of citizens at the large bear ambling in their midst but they were not able to ignore the accusing stares of his fellows.

“What are you doing here” Hendel demanded.

“Yes, how did you find us in the middle of Neverwinter?” Darvin asked suspiciously.

“I’m a ranger.” Galath replied, shrugging. “I track things.”

“I bet you followed the blood off my axe!” Hendel declared.

“I assumed it was your own blood.”

Ignoring the two glowering at each other Darvin cut in again. “Where have you been?”

“Roaming the coast… looking for dragons.”

“You were scared.” Hendel replied laughing.

“Not at all, I was just looking for dragons, I didn’t actually find any so I decided to spend a week on the beach. If I’m there I may as well do it properly.”

The group looked somewhat flummoxed by the fact he was completely unrepentant at fleeing the scene in the midst of their last fight so in the end just continued on down the road, Gauvain going to see Hendel for a pat.

As they walked they explained the situation to Galath, the focus somewhat inevitably ending up on Mordred.

“Wasn’t that the guy you tried to eat?” Asked Galath.

“No.” Eriden cut in. “This was the dwarf who was ambushed by a bugbear, who ate him, sadly we were too late to rescue him.”

“A bit strange how if you tried to rescue him why he would start attacking Phandalin.”

“Well you know how these crazy types are.” Darvin replied and there was some feet shuffling and awkward looks.

“So what happened to him.”

“He… escaped.”

“Actually he did, then you showed up…” Hendel said casting an accusing eye at Galath.

“Funnily enough we haven’t seen you both together.” Fyvel added.

“They must be in cahoots!” Eriden declared.

“I should kill you.” Hendel growled.

“You’re welcome to try.” Galath drawled with a smile.

“Probably run too fast if I did.” Hendel snorted.

With the group now reacquainted and as harmonious as ever (DM Note; yeah right) they continued on out of Neverwinter, as they were passing through the gates they were hailed and over walked the Elven mage from the Sword Guild the evening before.

“What do you want, elf?” Hendel demanded.

“I am Carleath Moonath.” The elf replied, she was a striking figure over six foot tall and very slim wearing robes of silver and white and a hood which was currently back on her shoulders revealing a fine featured face topped with blonde, almost white hair.

“Ah a girl.” Hendel replied running a hand through his shoddy mohican trying to slick it back sending who knows what debris tumbling into the road.

“I heard you would be about the city and Lovraic asked me to speak with you briefly.”

“Go ahead.” Fyvel replied, all trying to ignore the preening Hendel.

“What do you know about the Sons of Alagondar?”

“I know a little, I used to know a lot as I lived a lot of my life in Neverwinter, last I heard they are royalists who are not partial to Lord Neverember and instead want a return to the royal bloodline.”

“You are right. There was an…accord of sorts reached between Lord Neverember and the Sons for a long while but recently, for reasons unknown, they have been agitating again and whilst it seems to be minor criminality it could be portending something more serious.”

“I am Darvin Sha, the leader of this group.” Darvin introduced himself stepping forward.

“Him? The leader?” Galath asked incredulously.

“We were desperate, he seems pretty organized.” Eriden shrugged.

Darvin continued either pretending to or not actually hearing the exchange. “What can we do to help with the situation?”

“At the moment, nothing, however Lord Neverember has been in touch with Lovraic and made him aware of the situation, the likelihood of work in the near future now seems more… pressing. We appreciate you have commitments to Sildar and Phandalin but when your business there is finished if you can come back to see us at the Sword Guild we may have need of your services.”

“We will be back.” Fyvel assured her. “And on our return we will make sure to present ourselves to Lovraic and see what services can be rendered.”

“Thank you.” With that the elf walked away without a backward glance. Fyvel turned to Darvin “Apologies if I stepped on your toes there. I know this city, I know its workings, I thought it would be more helpful if I spoke with her.”

“Not a problem.” Darvin replied with an easy smile and with that the group set off from Neverwinter.

 The journey passed relatively uneventfully for the group as they followed the Neverwinter River toward distant Thundertree, a hard days travel would get them there in a day and as such they wasted little time. As they walked Fyvel filled the group in on the history with Mount Hotenow having exploded causing the devastation which even now Neverwinter was still recovering from and which has caused the problems with the Sons of Alagondar, the royal family having died in the conflagration caused from eruption, and their clashes with Lord Neverember.

As evening set the group came within sight of Thundertree and began to set their camp, as they did Hendel was looking around curiously.

“What’s wrong?” Fyvel asked.

“I’m looking for the tree.”

“What tree?”

“The tree with lightning coming off it, causing lots of noise.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Well it is called Thundertree.” Hendel replied earnestly, everyone groaned.

The night passed as uneventfully as the day had the only strangeness being the almost unnatural silence and stillness of the countryside surrounding Thundertree. As the group rose in the morning they were unnaturally subdued and headed off into Thundertree this state of affair was, inevitably, not going to last long.

As they reached the outskirts of the town there was a sign, somewhat bedraggled, nailed to a wooden post which warned of the danger of Zombies and Plant Monsters being present in the area and that people should stay away.

As Hendel was staring quizzically at the sign he asked. “Why are we here again?”

“Are you fucking kidding me!” Screamed Darvin, shocking everyone with his outburst. “I make all these notes.” He continued pulling a dog eared notebook from his pocket which he waved in the air around his head although trying to put out flames. “I share them with you…”

“I actually haven’t seen them.” Galath offered but was cut off.

“I share them with you!” Darvin almost shrieked. “And no one bothers to fucking read them, I mean why do I bother? Why!?” No one was forthcoming at the site of the notebook wielding half elf frothing at the mouth. “We are here to find Reidoth!”

“Who…” Hendel asked awkwardly.

“The druid, Reidoth the fucking druid, the one who Quelline Alderleaf sent us to find.”

“Who…” Someone began and Darvin screamed, by this point he was gnawing on the corners of the notebook.

“You know the one with the Halfling son…” Galath remarked but was quickly cut off by an indignant Hendel.

“I didn’t do anything with a Halfling!”

“So you say…”

“Listen!” Darvin shouted, wielding his notebook like a battleaxe and waving it in the groups collective faces. “Quelline Alderleaf said to come here to see Reidoth, because there’s a dragon.”

“Oh the dragon!” Hendel began the light blossoming behind his dull eyes.

“Shut up Hendel!” Darvin shouted. “She sent us to see the druid, about a dragon, and Dendrar about her dead husband.”

“Was he the dead guy…”

“SHUT UP HENDEL!” Darvin threw the notebook at him, it fluttered into a puddle and Darvin looked although he were about to explode. “I don’t know why I bother with my notebook if no one reads it. I don’t know why I bother.” Darvin now looked although he was about to sob by this stage.

“I’ve read it.” Fyvel offered as Hendel and Galath shot him a look suggesting he was the particularly unappealing class swat at this moment in time. “Well I have.”

“Come on let’s just go.” Darvin sniffed picking up his now damp notebook and giving it a shake and storming off up the road into the town. (DM Note; this is actually a characterized version of Dan’s (Darvin) out of character rant about his notes being ignored which was hilarious)

Darvin stormed off up the road with the group somewhat sheepishly following along behind, Thundertree itself was a ruin, most buildings were tumbled messes of overgrown weeds and young trees the odd structure which was whole and hale few and far between. Above it all sat a large tower which dominated the village as it watched over the collection of houses.

Eriden picked the first building on his right and wandered in for a look, as he disappeared from view there was a shouted course and a moment later Eriden came stumbling from the building swarmed by, what looked like, a few foot high small plants which were biting and clawing at him.

“Help!” He shouted, the group reacted charging forward apart from Hendel, who laughed.

The Twig Blights were dispatched with few problems, the last of them tried to flee into another ruined building close by and in a rare display of decency Hendel followed it in.

“We didn’t mean to attack you, we only wanted to talk.”

The Blight stopped and was swaying back and forth cautiously watching Hendel, after a few moments it let out an ear piercing scream and from the sides of the building came over half a dozen more of the creatures who dived atop Hendel bearing him to the floor in a bundle of dwarven curses and screeching plants.

Once again the creatures were dealt with efficiently apart from in Hendel’s case who stood up and stumbled to lean against the wall. “Little bastards.” He said. “Last time I try to help anyone.”

“Hendel.” Darvin shouted from outside. “Over the road, that looks like an inn, that should help you recover. How about you go in first?”

“No problem.” Hendel stumbled over the road, knocking open the door he was confronted by the sight of four zombies who shambled toward him making grabs for him.

Hendel sighed and threw his handaxe across the room thumping it into the zombie sending it slamming into the wall. (DM Note; this is one of only a few actual hits from Hendel throwing his axe that we have ever seen)

Fyvel went to work launching a couple of bolts into the inn which thumped into the nearest zombie sending it sprawling to the floor and Darvin muttered some magical phrases and suddenly part of the floor around one of the zombies burst into flame as a bonfire.

Eriden dived into combat, receiving a whack from a zombie for his troubles as Gavin lumbered round the outside of the inn smashing the back door down and roaring at the site of the zombies. Darvin had followed him round and was peering past the bear to see what was going on.

“What can you see?” Fyvel shouted.

“Probably just see in the bears back door by the looks of things.” Shouted Eriden in return.

Fyvel stepped into the breach and fired his crossbows flooring the last of the zombies, as he did so Darvin walked through the flaming back door and as he stepped through the flames clicked his fingers and the flames flickered out around his feet. He surveyed the scene of devastation. “Good work lads, Hendel, we’ll keep you on door opening duty.”

  The group set off through the ruined village, constantly alert for the sight of angry twigs, especially Hendel whose axe never left his hand. The rest of the village was as unappealing as the first two buildings they had seen however as they forged southward they came across a building on their right which seemed a lot sturdier than the others in the village with an iron banded door barring entry.

“Want me to cut in down?” Hendel asked readying his axe and starting forward.

“We could just knock.” Fyvel suggested.

Hendel puffed out his cheeks but waited as Darvin knocked on the door. “Hello?” He shouted.

“Hello.” A voice responded, it sounded like an older voice but was still firm.

“Is there anyone in there?”

“Of course there fucking is or we wouldn’t be speaking.” Darvin considered this.

“Can I smash the door down now?” Hendel asked again.

“Who are you?” The voice from inside demanded.

“We are a group of adventurers…”

“Which group?”

“Why does everyone want to know our name?” Eriden whispered.

“Our name is to be determined.”

“Strange name.”

“No it’s… we are a group of adventurers, we were sent here by Quelline Alderleaf who suggested you may be able to help us with some answers to rumors of a dragon in the area?”

Silence.

“Can we come in.”

The door creaked open and the group walked in, Hendel grumbling about not being able to smash the door down, and inside was an elderly human male who introduced himself as Reidoth the druid.

“So you’re looking for a dragon?” He asked.

“I’m going to kill it with my axe.” Hendel declared proudly.

“Sorry about him.” Eriden apologized, slipping into the language of druidic. “He hit his head as a child, we look after him.”

Reidoth nodded understandingly and turned to Hendel, speak very loudly and deliberately. “Yes. There. Is. A. Dragon. Here.”

Hendel glared at him and turned to Galath. “Is he taking the piss?”

Eriden and Reidoth went back to talking druidic and discussed the situation currently troubling Thundertree and Reidoth’s role in it all.

“I’m here just to keep people away. The Enclave isn’t as… pro-active as I would like.”

“I know the feeling.” Eriden agreed.

“I can’t clear away a dragon by myself, or a village full of zombies and spiders and now some stupid bloody arses dressed all in black who seem to spend every day hanging round the old tower where the dragon is holed up waving gold about. I can’t deal with it all myself so for now I will just keep others out of trouble and do what little I can.”

Eriden explained this all back to Darvin who commented. “It would be polite if he spoke common.”

“He’s a little eccentric and he doesn’t trust Hendel.”

“Fair enough.” Darvin responded shooting Hendel a look who was doing test swings with his axe through the air in the small building. “So what do we do?”

“The Dendrar building is on the other side of town.”

“These black cloaked folk sound interesting.” Added Fyvel.

“I want to kill the dragon.” Hendel added.

“We can’t take a dragon.” Fyvel cut in. “It’s a bloody big dragon.”

“We can just clear the town of trouble and sneak off.” Galath suggested.

“Ok.” Darvin cut in across everyone. “We get what we came for and we bugger off, we cannot deal with a dragon.” He continued before Hendel could cut in. “We stealth through the village, get what we came for and get out.”

“Yeah, we can ‘stealth’” Hendel agreed.

“You’re going to ‘fall over’ at the wrong time aren’t you Hendel.” Darvin asked exasperated.

“I wouldn’t do such a thing.”

“Can we not just put a leash on him?” Eriden asked.

Darvin turned back to Reidoth. “Thank you for the information, we will see what we can find in the village and deal with an threats we come across.”

Reidoth accepted this with a nod as the group set off once again.

  Outside a little up the road was another ruined building and Darvin tried to stealthily sneak inside, he went over on a tree root and tumbled to the middle of the floor with a thump (DM Note; another session, another critical stealth fail) he sat up rubbing his skull but before he could say anything another horde of the little Twig Blights came sprinting out of the darkened corners and attacked him in a swirling melee of cutting branches,

The group piled in and quickly dealt with the offending Twig Blights pulling the cut up Darvin back to his feet. “Smooth.” Hendel muttered smarmily.

As the group went back outside, Darvin’s ego bruised more than his body, further down the road was a web which stretched across the street between the tree and the buildings blocking the way.

“I’ll go around.” Galath said and disappeared around the corner of the building to sneak around.

Taking a less stealthy route Hendel picked up a stone and threw it off the web. Almost immediately on impact two huge spiders came clambering out of the ruined building and skittered toward the group, a third came out through the roof and raced toward the previously stealthy Galath.

The group responded with alacrity with Fyvel firing in bolts, Darvin sent magical missiles lancing toward the creatures as Eriden and Hendel charged into combat.

Fyvel efficiently dispatched one of the creatures on the street as Galath was webbed still and the creature dived upon him, ripping a chunk from him with its poisonous fangs. Galath reeled backward in pain. He pointed his rapier at the creature. “You’re going to die for this.” He declared and dived into combat with Gavin alongside him.

Hendel slammed his axe into the skull of the spider on the northern side of the building whilst after a flickering exchange of blows Galath cut down the spider which had bitten him. “Revenge!” He shouted and as he walked away he turned to Gauvain. “Eat him.” He commanded.

  After skirting the web the group came across the Dendrar shop and quickly found the necklace they had been offered as a reward, if they could claim it, Eriden picked it up and whistled, it looked expensive.

“We could give it Darvin.” Galath said. “With him wearing his dress he will be so pretty.”

“Fuck off!” Darvin snapped. “I’m still wearing pants as  I always have been.”

Checking inside what looked like a smithy the group came across two more zombies which were quickly dispatched but not before Darvin had set off another bonfire inside to set fire to one of the zombies. Darvin gestured to put the flames out, Eriden, feeling mischievous used druid craft to reignite it before setting off after the rest of the group.

Further beyond this was another building which was in the same state at the building that Reidoth had been hiding out in and the group eyed it curiously from a distance.

“So what are we doing?” Darvin asked.

“It could be those black cloaked figures that Reidoth mentioned.” Eriden added.

“Well let’s not send Hendel in, he stinks and will cause no end of trouble.” Fyvel put in.

As the group sniggered Hendel hefted his axe and walked up to the door, two handed he smashed it into the door sending chunks of wood and splinters spinning through the air in an explosion of noise. He stuck his head through the door to see a room full of a half dozen bemused and part scared looking cultists in black, dragon shaped masks and black robes.

“Here’s Hendel!” He boomed as his leering head poked through the axe ripped hole in the door with a crazy grin on his face.

The rest of the group grabbed Hendel by the shoulders and dragged him out of the door holding him back as he struggled.

“Who are you?!” A voice inside demanded the voice seeming unsure whether to confident or concerned.

Thinking on his feet Darvin declared. “We are friends of the dragon.”

“We’re what!?” Hendel exploded and was cut off with a gasp as Fyvel stamped on his foot.

“Are you friends of the dragon?”

“Of course we are.” Darvin assured them in honeyed tones. “Ignore the dwarf, he’s a little simple.”

“Most dwarfs are.” The figure could be heard to add and Hendel’s eyes boggled as he was dragged backward by Fyvel.

“We come to treat with the dragon, we have gifts for him.”

“We have what!” Hendel demanded but Fyvel managed to get a hand over his mouth to muffle him somewhat. “What the fuck is he talking about!?”

“We have diamonds and gold.” The voice from inside shouted. “Perhaps we could combine our gifts and lure the dragon forth to treat with him.”

“Treat with him!” Hendel shouted.

“Quiet with your noise!” Fyvel hissed.

“Treat with him!” Hendel hissed back. “I’ll treat him to my axe to his back!”

Darvin turned around and shouted. “Will you shut up Hendel!”

“What was that?” The figure inside asked.

“Nothing, just shutting up the fool dwarf.”

Hendel subsided somewhat muttering to himself at the ways in which he would kill the dragon, ticking them off on his fingers.

“A sacrifice would be good, that would be sure to attract the dragon.” The figure inside suggested.

“What were you thinking?” Darvin asked.

“Well that dwarf, he would make a fat sacrifice for the dragon.”

“What!” Hendel exploded once again and him and Galath set to arguing with one another whilst Fyvel helped hold him back. “Now I’m a fat sacrifice! Let’s just go in there, kill them all and take their diamonds then kill the dragon.”

“We are friends of all dragons!” Darvin continued raising the volume to drown out the incredulous Hendel. “That sounds like a good plan.”

“I’m not being sacrificed!” Hendel hissed.

“Hendel you idiot.” Eriden cut in. “We pretend to sacrifice you, they come outside, we trick them, kill them and take their diamonds.”

“Let’s just kill them now.” Hendel said, exasperated, and hefted his axe causing the other to panic and hold him back once again.

“Give me a moment.” Darvin said to the cultists. “I will make this happen.” Darvin made gestures and muttered some magic phrases, under his breath he hissed. “Hendel just pretend to be asleep for the Gods sake!”

“I don’t like this, I’m not being sacrificed to anyone.”

“We are not really going to sacrifice you.” Darvin hissed back sounding exasperated.

“Come on.” Fyvel pleaded.

“Fine.” Hendel acceded, glaring balefully at them all. “But bring my fucking axe.” With that Hendel took a theatrical swoon and hit the floor with a thump.

“What was that?” The voice came from inside.

“We are just binding his hands, he sleeps.” Darvin shouted.

“My hands!?” Hendel demanded. “I didn’t sign up for this, fuck off!”

He began to rise but Fyvel put a hand on his chest. “It will be a fake not, don’t worry.” Fyvel assured him.

“If anything goes wrong, it’s your fault!” Hendel hissed. “You and that stupid bloody half elf.”

Hendel let his hands be bound and Darvin shouted at the cultists to come forth. Seven of them emerged looking somewhat cautious and one, clearly the leader, came over to Hendel and looked at his ‘sleeping’ form which he gave a kick. Hendel managed to not sit up and rip his leg off.

“Come.” The figure declared. “Show me your treasures.” Darvin acquiesced and showed him some of the gem stones they had in a pouch, the cultist nodded happily. “Come along” He declared and the group set off for the tower before the trap could be sprung.

“Shit.” Darvin whispered to Fyvel. “I meant to ambush them outside, not go to the dragons tower!”

“What’s happening?” Hendel hissed.

“Nothing, nothing.”

“Why are we moving, I thought we were killing them not sacrificing me!”

Darvin turned to Eriden. “Can you sort them out?”

Eriden responded quickly and muttering some magic phrases and an ice knife shot through the air, exploding in the midst of the cultists ice sprayed everywhere but somehow the cultists all emerged unscathed from the explosion of ice.

“We are betrayed!” The cult leader yelled and his fellows drew their swords. Before they could react Darvin muttered some magical phrases and two of the group of cultists looked confused before turning on their leader and diving on him, bearing him to the floor.

“No you fools!” He shrieked. “Kill them!”

“I’ve got this.” Fyvel declared and calmly drew his crossbows and aimed at two cultists, pulling the trigger there were two hollow clicks. Fyvel looked down to see both crossbows unloaded in his hands. “Oh fuck.” He muttered (DM Note; it is not one of our sessions without a critical failure in attack)

Hendel wriggled out of his bonds and ran forward, hefting his hand axe he launched it across the clearing at one of the cultists. “Sacrifice me will you!?” He screamed but so enraged he was the axe went off course and instead clipped Eriden sending him sprawling.

Galath drew bead and slew one of the cult members as Eriden bashed in the skull of another and Darvin a third. Galath stepped up and put an arrow in the head of the pinned leader and suddenly the remaining cultists fell to their knees begging for mercy.

After their attempted swaying of the dragon was revealed to be nothing to do with the goings on at Phandalin the group, in a strange slant toward mercy, let the two remaining cultists flee the scene.

“I really thought you were going to sacrifice me there.” Hendel said mopping his brow.

“We wouldn’t do that…” Darvin replied unconvincingly.

  The group, still cautious of alerting the dragon, set off stealthily for the town square, in the middle say a wooden statue of a figure holding a spear.

“It’s Dwon!” Hendel shouted laughing and after a point from Darvin walked up to the nearest door and slammed his axe into it with a crunch sending it to the floor revealing a gang of zombies.

”I’ve found…” Hendel began but before he could finish there was a deafening crash and spinning round the group saw a shower of sparks and a billow of smoke hurtling off up into the air.

“I thought I had put that fire out.” Darvin mused.

“I may have re-lit it.” Eriden said not looking anyone in the eye.

A moment later there was a deafening roar, the group turned round and above them, rearing on the lip of the tower was a huge Green Dragon.

“The dragon!” Hendel shouted joyfully.

  (DM Note; a good session with a nice mixture of role play and combat. There were a couple of genuinely hilarious moments with Darvin having his notebook meltdown and Hendel genuinely incredulous that they were speaking to the cultists and not cutting their heads off. Half the group (myself included) were on the verge of tears of laughter with how it all played out. A great session!)
