i think the poetic justice of waiting 10 actual years to explore carlos as a character is actually incredibly smart. we better understand the length of time in which Carlos was alone, was unable to come back to Night Vale, and tried to build a life there to cope. think of how much you changed as a person in a decade. think of the world and how its changed in a decade.
not many pieces of media can utilize the passage of real time to enhance an aspect of a fictional story, and a relationship to a character and their trauma.

So the new IS3 title has been decoded as Mizuki and Caerula Arbor
Tumblr media
Caerula has three definitions I could find as a Latin word,
It means (1)blue, cerulean, dark - (2) greenish-blue, azure - (3) of river or sea deities.
Arbor, while I believe is more commonly known for its association with trees through Arbor Day - has another definition
An axle or spindle on which something revolves
Considering the new mechanics with the dice rolling and lights - and Mizuki having seaborn DNA, and we’ve had one seaborn deities(? Or equivalent) through Skadi (Ishar-mla), and AUS are all avatars of a young oceanic deity on the run-
I’m placing my bet for the title meaning -
Mizuki and the Axle of Ocean Deities / Mizuki and the Axle of Ocean Behemoths / Feranmuts (based on translations from the most recent event)

Mild ep 8 spoilers
The way that they are slowly intergrating new pieces into her warddrobe. it could just be bc it looks cool. and it does but i wonder if its gonna symbolise her character progression. Thats shes becoming her own person, and what she wants to be. esp playing of her worries at the end of the episode it could show that even though she was "created" she can carve her own path

This is the first AMV I ever made! It was a Claymore one to "Rise" by Origa (one of the OPs for the Ghost in the Shell anime). It's bad so you shouldn't watch it, but I wanted to ramble a bit about my journey making AMVs and how I got started. (and also Claymore in the reblog)
I made this for my college anime club in 2011. The club said they were going to have an AMV contest and we could make ours over break. Then when I got back from break nobody but me had made one and I just dropped it. I didn't mind though, because I wanted to get started making AMVs anyway, I'd watched a bunch and wanted to for a while. Like a lot of people, I was always creating AMVs in my head when I listened to songs.
The summary I published this with is preserved in the metadata and it is so unintentionally funny
Done for an AMV contest at the anime club. I haven't finished either the anime or manga of Claymore yet- so no spoilers- but I am already completely in love with both. [summary stuff]
Anyone know how to get rid of the box on the sides of the picture?
As is very obvious in this video, at first I approached AMVs kind of like I was making my own summary of my favorite parts of the anime rather than really intergrating the music. I used subbed footage in this (and in a few AMVS after) because 1. I could only find subbed footage and 2. because at the time I was always confused why people didn't use subs for anime, because sometimes they matched the music or they could tell someone what the show was about! But of course this is because you can rarely make an AMV that actually works with the music with subbed footage.
You have to leave time for people to read the subs and the characters to talk and part of the fun of AMVs is conveying things nonverbally and syncing it to the lyrics of the beat, it makes for a boring viewing experience if it's just a clipshow where you might has well have just left the audio on and made an ad for the anime.
So this is slow and bad, but I have a fondness for it. You can see that I really wanted to show people Clare and Teresa's story and why I thought it was cool. I think I made three subbed AMVs after this (the second one being the "We Believe You" Sailor Jupiter one, and the next two being other Sailor Moon ones that are lost forever now) but as I got better, I ditched them. The road to improvement was slow and long, but I improved a lot.
I don't think I'll ever make AMVs again- the last time I attempted one was a Patreon request, and I realized Windows Movie Maker was way too buggy to work with and as an adult, AMVs were way too time consuming to make for only $50- now I know how to use Davinci Resolve which is way better and not buggy, but yeah, still too time consuming! Even editing my old ones like I've been doing has been more time consuming and horribly addictive than I imagined. I can waste entire days just editing an AMV, hours on just getting one bit of timing right, and now that I have all these responsibilities I can't do that anymore. But I really look back on all my AMVs fondly, even the bad ones. I'm glad I can revisit most of them on this blog now.

Dunno if this is spoilers but with the SM virus, did sun notice it at first?
Or did the virus take time for it to fully/partially intergrate into Sun's code?
Well Sun had a feeling that something wasn't right but everytime he scanned himself it always came back with no result. His system didn't recognized S.M as a virus at first, until later when it was already to late. (So like S.M had a cover up to be unnoticed until it was strong enough and developed to handle Sun's antivirus system).

I guess you can call me the 3am Mike cutter anon and I’m aware of like his seasons so idm spoilers.
I was going to ramble in the tags of a gif set you did for innocence because I had some Thoughts about the episode but decided against it. My main problem with Emily was that how. How did she NOT tell Mike that he was missing some credits?? Like? That’s so,,,I mean it’s understandable that some credits will fall through because Mike transferred from 3 colleges and different colleges have different standards (I went through that when I transferred to my uni from community college. Good god my uni didn’t have the foreign language I took. Anyway) but like it should be on her to tell Mike. And to use it against him,,,tbf he did kinda bring it on himself for supeona’ing student records and sure use any means necessary but I felt like that was. Going a bit too far. Was he going after the intergreity of Emily’s clinic? Yeah but with good reason (pretty sure a student bribed that witness with money + booze can impair one’s judgement). Did Emily had to bring in Mike’s law license into this? No not rlly. Idk at least Mike kept his law license but 😬😬 god.
hey 3am mike cutter anon! sorry that it's taken me so long to respond but boy am i glad to see you back in my asks again! :)
spoilers for l&o S20E16 "innocence" under the cut:
i am 100% with you on this—i've said it before and i'll say it again, in that episode MIKE DID NOTHING WRONG. sure, like you said, he arguably gets too aggressive going after the clinic with the subpeona. BUT, let's remember the context—emily ryan was trying to overturn a legitimate trial verdict, all of the potentially exculpatory leads were investigated (by lupo and bernard—we see this in the first half of the episode after ryan's first challenge), and there's good reason to believe, as you mentioned, that the "exculpatory" witness was unreliable/bribed. Grade inflation is a potential motive for that behavior, so even though you could argue it's still a bad look for mike, it's not mike's job to play nice if it means putting a homophobic murderer out on the street.
even if you do think mike was going too far, it was absolutely unnecessary for emily ryan to try to tank his career over it. everyone keeps accusing mike of making it personal, when it's emily who made it personal to begin with. she's the first one to make a direct comment to him about "proving" that he still has his chops, to try to "beat" her. she essentially attempts to blackmail mike out of subpeonaing the records, and when he doesn't back down, she punishes him just to show that she can. on top of it all, in the scene at rikers at the end of the episode, she gaslights him by insisting that he was the one who started it. (oh really, emily? she literally says "now let's see if you really did learn something from me" when her first retrial request is granted!!!!!!!)
she's the one who treats it like a competition from the start, and does so until the very end, trying to negotiate a plea deal for a guy she clearly doesn't even believe is innocent (don't get me wrong—i know the whole job of a defense attorney is to be a tireless advocate for whomever they represent, even if they're guilty—but by the end of the episode, she's entirely forgotten the point of the innocence coalition, which is to challenge wrongful convictions, and i truly don't believe she thinks Stuber's conviction was wrongful by the end).
i know credit mishaps happen all the time (like what happened to you, and hell, my mom was missing half a credit when she was supposed to graduate from high school and her counselor just approved her anyway bc it was dumb to make her repeat a year over half a credit), but as his advisor, that was literally her responsibility to him, to make sure everything was in order, and if not, to give him time to fix it. then to hold onto that information to save it for a "rainy day", when she needed to stick it to him..... it's just evil. maybe she was envious of mike's talent in college, maybe she just genuinely fucked up and didn't want anyone to know that she had fucked up, and then saw an opportunity, i don't know. but i do think that in any case, she was mean and vindictive in a way that i don't think mike is (and i definitely think in a way that he evolved a bit away from by that point in the show).
on the bright side, ryan doing that did do two things: one, it meant that mike no longer had that secret hanging over his head anymore and no one else can use it against him (his convictions were upheld and he only got a reprimand from the bar), and two, it proved that he actually does believe in justice over winning or making himself look good. we see in the final scene that he's willing to give up everything—including his law license—to make sure this hate murderer goes to prison for what he did ("you can have my license! it'll free me up to testify about the hate speech your client just spewed in here."). that's something that i don't believe emily ryan ever had the guts to do.
ANYWAY, once again, mike cutter did nothing wrong, and i would like to fight emily ryan in a chili's parking lot.
thanks for dropping by again, 3am mike cutter anon! feel free to send me any more 3am mike cutter thoughts in the future! :)

I think in the long run I might ended up sticking with tumblr as my new home, with mastodon on the side.
Because this place is really gonna be the last remnant of "Web 2.0" before we monetize everything to hell and back. Twitter isn't gonna get better anytime soon, in fact it's heading worse as fascist is being unbanned.
Post is run by dorks who have believe shit like this
Tumblr media
"oh no don't discriminate against..." *checks notes* "rich people. Yea because billionares are totally a class worth protected. What a bunch of dorks.
Meanwhile Mastodon is just full of people circle-jerking about how much better Mastodon and defederated system is and it just reminds me of early 2000s Linux forum in the worst way possible!
(also spoiler alert: it isn't any better. I'll make a separate post about how defedarated systems is not resilient against the banality of evil)
Tumblr media
Also discovering art and artist using their current system sucks ass and they have the weird culture (especially over the general instance) that 'demand' artist to put content warning over their artwork because "they didn't consent to the self-promotion of your own art" and other silly reasons.
You kinda have to join an art / content creator specific instance if you want people who can respect and appreciate artist.
So that leaves me with Tumblr, the only place where it's still weird and full of art even after Yahoo/Verizon tried to fuck this site over. (I left Tumblr after THAT shitshow)
And since Tumblr's gonna intergrate with ActivityPub soon (the thing that makes Mastodon, Mastodon), that just give me more reason to put some effort into my tumblr now.

The Mario movie review (spoilers)
I want to talk about the movie because I really liked it! So spoilers below!
First of all, I watched the movie in french, so I won't talk about the VA's performances, it's strictly about the story and characterization.
In general
The plot is pretty generic, nothing too mindblowing nor revolutionary. What did you expect for an origin movie about a very famous video game franchise ? Honestly it was extremely fun to watch it, there was a lot of references that didn't feel too shoehorned in. People who don't know shit about the franchise can still enjoy the movie as much as people who are avid fans of it. And that's a big good point for the movie. Because it wasn't done for the fans... well, maybe that was the case but everyone else can still have good times watching it!
My 7 years old inner self almost got a panic attack for the underwater scene, BECAUSE OF THAT GODDAMN FUCKING EEL, MAN. I got TRAUMATIZED of that thing back in Super Mario 64 and in the theatre i was like "is that the eel? that's gotta be the damn eel, isn't it?" AND BOY I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. I loved it and hated it at the same time, you know what I mean? I liked how they intergrated the nightmare™ in the movie, but I still hate that thing.
When Luigi landed in the dark land (or whatever its name is in english), I was expecting a few boos. It was still a kinda scary scene with the dry bones all over the place, if I was a child I know this would have terrified me to my core. Still not over the fucking eel.
I think I never fangirled so much than during the kart making scene. I don't know why, I'm really not a big fan of vehicles and engines in general, but this scene? Seeing the karts being personalized was such a god tier moment for me, idk I just loved it! Then you have Toad with the biggest ass kart ever xD
They were quite vague about Peach's origin story, they're probably keeping it for a sequel, but it seems she is from the same world as Mario. Either way, it's a nice explaination as to why a human woman is ruling the Mushroom Kingdom full of Toads. The movie ended nicely, without too much sequel baiting, because as a standalone movie it's really fine if Nintendo won't make another one.
If I have to say one negative about the movie storywise, it's that no one dropped a penguin over the cliff, biggest disappointment of my life. My day is ruined 😂
The characters
I'll start with the cameos because people have a tendency to forget them. And I want to keep the best for last. Nice to see Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong in the crowd, they weren't forgotten by the writers! King Bob-Omb and King Boo were also cameos during the wedding scene, it was awesome. I freaking LOVED the blue shell koopa, he was such a fucking maniac, down for murder and completely insane. AND THEN HE DID THE THING!!! You know what I'm talking about, he went full kamikaze mode and was like "I'll take you down with me", best highlight of the movie (that was not about the brothers. more about them later). The luma was such a mood. His childlike voice saying the most disturbing things was hilarious xD Same, bro, same. Toad was... well he was just there. I liked his adventurous/brave personality.
I loved Peach, she was great. Both cute and badass as well as down to heart character. Liked how she was like "nobody gets it right the first time", nice reference to the video games (i also felt personally attacked by this statement, cuz i can suck at video games sometimes xD). She was grace, she was gentle, she was a true princess. Also, I liked how they didn't force too much romance between her and Mario. I mean sure, they are each other's love interest in canon so I wouldn't be mad if they have romantic moments in a possible sequel, but the movie didn't focus on that.
Bowser was truely funny. And menacing. It's the kind of characters who can do both and that's why we all love him. Loved all of his facial expressions. It was a blast everytime he was on screen. I don't know what else to say about him, he was such entertaining. His little musical number was 10/10.
Donky Kong was cool. I loved his interactons with Mario, worst enemies at first sight, and I liked how the writers kept their antigonistic relationship because duh, DK was Mario's first enemy. Liked how they almost had a bonding moment for having disappointed dads. But nope, DK was too prideful to admit he could relate to the guy who beat him xD
And now, make way for the best part of the movie: the brothers.
You have NO IDEA how much I loved them. They were so wholesome and protective of each others, it's so heartwarming, guys. Everything about them was ✨perfection✨. I knew they were going to get separated while watching the first trailer and still got shocked to see it happening in the second trailer. I don't know why. It was going to be expected. So going in the movie, I was waiting for this moment again, because with more build up to it I knew it would break me. And it did. Mainly with that one line : "Nothing can hurt us as long as we're together." Man. Fucking man. That line DESTROYED me.
The bros are protective of each other and it's everything I wanted to see onscreen. I can be a heartless bitch sometimes, but I'm extremely emotional when I see fictional brothers and sisters having wholesome moments between them. It's everything for me. Mario defending Luigi everytime was awesome. During the worksite scene, Mario was opening the way for Luigi and that's adorable as fuck, man. He knows Luigi can't jump or do parkour so he makes sure Luigi can still follow him. Love love love love!!!!!! Then you have the disappointed dad. Telling Mario that he's bringing down his brother with him. Mario goes sulking in his room, thinking he's made a mistake or a bad decision. AND THEN Luigi comes into the room reassuring Mario it's not the case. Amazing. Emotional support bro for the win.
Luigi saying that Mario is the best guy in the world is so great to me. He loves deeply his big brother and I'm just sobbing softly in my corner thinking about them. I cried like a baby watching them reuniting, I am not joking. Their hug was everything. AND THEN!!!! LUIGI COMES IN THE WAY OF BOWSER'S FLAMES TO SAVE HIS BIG BRO AND THROWS THE LINE™ BACK AT MARIO, I JUST- I CAN'T- I- !!!!!!
Everything about them was amazing. Their relationship was cute, wholesome, heartwarming, so pure... A lot of people arleady talked about them in details so I feel like i would repeat what has already been said. The Mario brothers were extremely sweet to watch from the beginning to the end. That was the best part of the movie: their relationship. Brothers loving each other is important to see onscreen. Fraternal love is a beatiful love that needs more attention from the medias.
To conclude, the movie was great, the characters awesome and the worldbuilding was perfect.

What interesting things have you gotten interested in, in these past few interesting months, my interesting friend
Well, well-well-well-well, welllllll, a few thing-a-ma-bobs. But it's mainly been 4 fandoms that have come and intergrained themselves in my grey matterspace.
Disco Elysium is pretty obvious with some of my recent posts, BUT I've really only gotten 5 or so hours into my first playthrough so far and from what I can guess, it is nowhere near the end for me. I'm gonna try and get back to it sometime soon, but it's just been a case of notyet getting into the mindset to play a deeply written detective-human psychology-political story novel, to the surprise of myself. It's highly enjoyable, don't miscontrue my words, but it's an undertaking.
Speaking of politics, guess which underwater, steampunk, civil war simulator franchise I've played and has shot to the top of favorite games of all time? Yeah, Bioshock 1 and 2 had knocked my socks off with their presentation and story than I had first expected. I knew the games were classics, but I had just thought they wouldn't interest me since I'm kinda lukewarm on the steampunk genre admittedly. But Rapture as a whole had made me engrossed with every inner working and system in the sunken city, not withstanding the competing and aggressive interactions between the personification of political stances called Andrew Ryan, Sofia Lamb, and Frank Fontaine. Lovely games and my heart is sent to every Big Daddy and Little Sister down there, specially Delta.
Oh, and Infinite? ...i-it's fine. Like, I liked looking at the grim alternate history of Columbia (which is another reason Rapture had grabbed me) and I got used to the gameplay and feeling of being akin to Half-Life 2, but the ending kinda fell super flat on me and I wasn't a fan of how they intergrated parallel worlds into the story. And less said about Burial at Sea, I'll give you as many sugardoodles as need be.
Now back to our normal scheduled program, and by normal, I mean bizarre. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Good segueway, I know. But yeah, Jojo has occupied a lot of brainspace in me too recently, which is rare for an anime to do so for me. But fuck me, did the story grip me by Part 2. I had felt like it had finally start to get it's narrative grip by the time I had seen the Pillar Men emerge to be cool, strong, honorific yet bastard vampire dudes. It may have also been the gay talking and Joseph being iconic. But what sucks about my situation is that I'm not far into Part 3 because I've been watching through it on a friend's behalf and her schedule hasn't aligned for it for the past month, so I'm stuck in a purgatory of waiting to get the full context of scenes through the actual story while I tiptoe around spoilers when watching content made by Jojo fans, and it kills me more when I slowly feel like I'll fucking ADORE Parts 5, 6, and 7 when I get to it! Basille, you bitch (affectionate), WATCH JOJO WITH ME!
Ahem, sorry bout that, let me get to the last thing right quick. Risk of Rain was yet another thing recommended to me by a friend and I've had my fair share of enjoyment playing through both of the games. The first game's style is wonderfully Terraria feeling for a guy that knows that Terraria is not my speed in the slightest, and I had a fair bit in fun in completing the game with every survivor. Risk of Rain 2 has been even more fun but also more infuriating as another result, since I really like the transition into 3d and how the game feels much more smoother to play, but I've grinded myself at trying to beat the game even once after 30+ attempts that it has burned me out even when I get a good run. Maybe it's just because I complete stages too slowly, but I can't help but wanting to complete shit. I've gotten to Mithrix once and have been waiting to taste that wonderful feeling again. And what is another kick in the pants is how RIsk of Rain Returns has released but isn't on consoles beside the Switch and I want it!
Oh, and I don't know if I had said this outright, but I had seen Ultrakill about a year ago and have been still into that, but even moreso now, soooo I guess that counts?

- MIDSOMMAR -
Aster / 2019 / 2h 20m
Rating : ★★★★☆
“spectacular and terrifying”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
spoilers…duh!
tw: graphic violence, gore,
Midsommar may not be for everyone, it’s content is incredibly graphic and it is fairly slow paced. However, the film goes beyond its story, Ari Aster has an ability to redefine horror. he creates an incredible sense of dread and worry throughout. rather than the more common approach of jump scares and obvious terror, he separates himself from this by manipulating time and pace of the film. With its slow build up there is a looming sense of dread, an underlying anxiety throughout the entire film. It seems to be more uncomfortable and disturbing than scary. Despite the slow-burning structure of it ringing successful, narratively it isn’t completpey solid. the majority of the first half is a set up which is rarely visited again, it’s a fairly complex set up to be explored only at surface level. Despite this, it is still an incredible production. For the folk horror fans reading - Midsommar is in the same vein as ‘The Wicker Man’(1973) both narratively and pace wise. The slow-burning horror is far less prevelant in todays cinema but it seems with Asters direction, the genre could re-emerge.
Visually, the film is stunning, the cinematography is impeccable and colour palette is sublime. Not a single shot is not purposeful in terms of colour schemes, character positioning, symbolism and overall shot composition. Apersonal favourite shot of mine is when the group first drive through the enterance of the festival, the shot of the sign is completely upside down, foreshadowing the madness in what will unfold. Aster successfully contrasts the colourful and bright environment with the inner turmoil of the characters enduring the folk rituals. Asters use of symbolism and religion is really what enhances this daylight horror to be so disturubing. he uses age old ceremonies that include gory rituals, including characters being being beaten and smashed, bodies cut and burned, some cases alive…this is definitely not for the faint hearted. there is some drug use within the film, reflected in the editing, the characters faces become distorted, as does the beautiful scenery surrounding them, once again conflicting the beauty surrounding our characters with the terror in which will unfold. The film also contains a lot of foliage and floristry, beautiful colours and arrangements displaying rebirth and femininity, two crucial themes throughout the film.
Aster also packs his film full of easter eggs, things you have to watch multiple times to spot, the attention to detail is another aspect in which makes him so distinguished. His use of folk-law and paganism is common throughout a multitude of his films, a recognisable signature of his. In addition to his reccouring religious symbolism, Aster has adopted other techniques such as the portrayal of greif, his slow-burning horror, and intergration of beauty in terror.
midsommar is incredibly memorable film, you will struggle to forget it. everytime you watch it, something new will appear to you, your appreciation will only grow for every fine detail. Ari Aster successfully preys upon human emotions at their strongest, and intertwines horror and beauty so gracefully. Aster is definitely a director to pay attention to in the future of cinema, his style within his productions and Midsommar as a whole is example of a creator defining their artistic signature. Trust me… alright?

Quick Notes: Chapter 165
Let’s go!
Xiaomei’s introduction is particularly interesting considering... certain theories regarding the Demon Kings.
This is a cool cover. I feel like we’re missing a few people outside of the EZ Crew.
Shiki and Xiaomei’s scene together is very likely only a metaphor. I mean, it’s absolutely happening for her, but not for him the same way.
Please tell me Shiki wasn’t thinking to save Shura. Even if Mashima’s willing to save him, we all know it’s not in everyone’s best interest. (He’s almost definitely with Ijuna and I’d be shocked otherwise.)
I wouldn’t be shocked if we see more of the (new) Oceans 6. I’m not banking on it though.
Hey look! A sacrifice move to help their friends survive. Can you imagine that happening again?
How am I not surprised that the Admiral wanted to fight despite losing Shura.
“Jesse, you’re okay! Is Creed with you?!” Previously on Edens Zero…
“Can we not make the extreme introvert do the speeches?” It’s like that sometimes. Honestly, it’s likely this would have fallen to Witch if she was healthy.
Speaking of Witch (pun not unintended), it’s good to see canon acknowledge her as the ship mom. That was basically already the case for her in fanon.
Now, the obvious villain saying Shiki made the wrong choice is bad. But, for what it’s worth, consider that this is the obvious villain saying Shiki made the wrong choice.
It’s at this time that I feel we should bring back Mashima’s School of Despair:
Instill fear in subject. (Witch gets captured by Shura.)
Give them reason for hope. (He doesn’t do a whole lot with her right away.)
Make the situation worse. (Shura critically damages Witch.)
Leave subject with room for hope. (Her core is intact and and she’s repaired.)
Crush hope like a grape. (Everyone may get blown up anyway.) [YOU ARE HERE]
Everything ends up alright. (I mean I don’t know how Mashima will handle Witch, but they probably won’t blow up.)
Well, I’m worried about next week, but it will come all the same. See you then...

Wait hold up, the writers know that alters can’t... die, right? Like, in systems, alters don’t die unless, y’know, the body does. They can go dormat for an unspecified period of time, or ever fuse together to create a new alter, but can’t... actually die. It’s not how alternate personalities/states of identity work?? I get it’s a sci-fi show and yeah the body happens to be metahuman so it could be different, but Baby Doll was already in existence when they got powers, so it really shouldn’t be different for their system. My theory is that by “killing” Baby Doll, they’re actually going to intergrate her with Scarlet Harlot, to bring about Baby Harlot. They sort of foreshadowed it with all the talk about how baby Doll’s too immature to play with tween Dorothy, so intergration with Scarlet Harlot, a very, erm... mature alter, would probably create a young teen that’s closer to Dorothy in age, who would also happen to be... a bit too mature for their age. (It’s a Scarlet Harlot fusion, after all).
