Parenting.
Summary:
Moroha moved out around a year ago, Ichiki about a month. Kagome experiencing the pain of the empty nest so Inuyasha makes it his mission to track down his kids and get full reports for his wife.
You can also read it Here Ao3. Fanfic.
Oh and don’t forget to check out the amazing fanart by @nectarine500! Here.
Inuyasha was desperately trying to breathe. Opening his eyes and putting on his stone face he turned to look at his eldest who was finding the ground very interesting.
“Moroha," Inuyasha's voice was stern and slightly threatening, doing his damn best not to yell. "Please tell me you’re not in debt."
“Uh-“
The growl that rumbled from his throat was low as he watched his daughter pray to the gods for something to say. Don’t. Yell.
“Okay. Tell me you're not in debt so I don’t have to go back home and tell your mother you’re in debt.”
“I'm not in debt?”
Moroha put on her best smile and looked up at Inuyasha with wide innocent golden eyes, ah the cute tactic. Basic.
“Oh cut the crap Moroha! Your mother uses that look so much that I’m immune!”
Okay now Inuyasha was yelling-
“The hell Moroha? Your brother is the one who finds trouble so when your mother sent me to go check up on you fools I thought you were going to be the easy one!”
This wasn’t what he was expecting, Moroha had been traveling along with Hisui and his twin sister slaying demons for at least a year now, they would visit home sometimes or write a letter so the parents believed everything was okay. It’s been a good month since Ichiki, his youngest, set off on his own, now sixteen and Kagome missed her babies. So with enough tears and love she convinced Inuyasha to go find and check up on them. Moroha was supposed to be his easy case, she was skilled in fighting and had as Kagome would say “street smarts” or whatever the hell that meant. Ichiki on the other hand fought from a distance and was stronger in the brains department and in a world full of demons that would love to make a meal out of a quarter demon, Inuyasha worried he’d be the one having trouble on his own.
BUT NOOOOO, HE FOUND HIS DAUGHTER FIRST WHO WAS DROWNING IN DEBT.
His head was spinning, one of two things could be going on right now. One, Moroha is his only kid in trouble so there’s only one problem, or both his kids are in trouble and he has to report both of them to Kagome. Oh god Kagome-
.
“Hey pop? Are you good? You're as red as the fire rat?”
In his state of rage the father of two didn’t notice his daughter poking him with concern on her face.
Inuyasha looked down at her and stared, no doubt he looked mad. He was pissed, but Moroha was still his baby girl. He patted her head and began to walk away.
Moroha took a second and watched him go before catching up, Inuyasha was basically speed walking which was causing the quarter demon to jog.
“Hey! Uh-old man! Where are you going?”
“We. My sweet daughter, are going to pay off half your debt.” Inuyasha looked back at her, Inuyasha was damn strong and he was going to give his girl a hand to get out of the hole she dug herself.
Moroha will still have to pay the other half without him, something he’s sure Hisui and the twins will help with. But for right now he’ll spend the day slaying demons with his favorite girl. Inuyasha was still mad of course but it’s been so long since he had a day with her.
Inuyasha had been following the red hooded figure below him for a good while now. Ichiki not having demonic abilities meant he couldn’t smell his fathers scent, but he was very skilled in his spirit powers so why on earth hasn’t he noticed Inuyasha?
Jumping through the trees to get a better look at the youth, the first thing Inuyasha noticed was that he hadn’t grown an inch. Ichiki was around Kagome height, maybe an inch taller. Inuyasha wasn’t exactly the tallest guy around and Kagome had to be the shortest woman in Japan so perhaps his son was just cursed to remain tiny forever. The second thing he noticed was that his face was all scratched up, huh, maybe he did find some trouble. Just like his mother.
Suddenly the quarter demon stopped on the forest path he was walking to take a seat on a tree stump. Puzzled Inuyasha began to look around, was he waiting for something? Did he sense something? Inuyasha couldn’t see anything. Looking back down at his son he was slightly startled to see a pair of blue eyes looking up at him.
Ichiki’s face slowly drew up into a smile, of course. He knew his father was following him; he just wasn’t going to notice him. If he did Inuyasha would win, it would be the same if Inuyasha made the first move to talk.
“Are you just going to stare? You come down and eat lunch with me, you know.” His son called up to him, grabbing two radishes from his bag he carried on his right side.
Inuyasha smiled down at him. “Keh!”
With a big jump and a graceful landing Inuyasha was next to his son in seconds. The radish was plump and freshly picked, he must have gotten it from the nearby village.
“You know Ichi, you could have said “hi” or made some form of communication for the past hour “ Inuyasha said with one hand on his hip and the other reaching out for the vegetable. His son chucked and handed over the radish.
“Where’s the fun in that?” Ichiki teased looking up at his father. Rolling his eyes Inuyasha motioned his hand to the right for his son to scoot. The tree stump was big enough for them both to be seated back to back.
“Wanna explain the scratches on your face?”
Getting settled, Inuyasha leaned back against his son.
“Cat.”
Was the one worded answer he heard from behind him. Confused, he asked, “A cat demon?” Inuyasha could feel his son's body jostle a bit with a chuckle.
“Nope just a cat, he was in the house I exorcised.” Ichiki said with a smile in his voice.
Inuyasha couldn’t help the laugh that escaped him!“Of course you’d be the one to get his ass kicked by a cat-“
“Shut up and eat your food dad.”
They ate silently, enjoying each other's presence. Inuyasha had missed this, the comfortable silence. While Moroha was loud and outgoing, Ichiki was quiet and kept to himself.
As time passed small conversations were made.
“How’s mom?”
“Good. She misses you guys, told me to come check up on you two.”
“I miss her too.”
“I’ll make sure to tell her.”
“Didn’t expect you to be on the outskirts of Japan”
“There’s some good exorcism jobs around here.”
“Hm.”
“How did you find me?”
“Moroha. I found her first. She said she checked up on you a few weeks ago.”
“Yeah, she’s worried I’ll trip on air off a cliff or something.”
“I missed you bud.”
“I missed you too dad.”
Kagome had maybe two gray hairs, with some wrinkles that somehow managed to compliment her soft face. She was beautiful as ever and Inuyasha, who had been gone for around a week, was glad to make it back home to her with full reports about their children and letters they sent back with him for her.
They’re all grown up, and yet it was hard for Inuyasha to say goodbye. He thought parenting was supposed to be easy after the kids actually left the house.
Fin.
Thank you for reading! Happy Inukag Week!

You guys know on how InuYasha, the few times he talks about it, badmouths his father and says he doesn't care to avenge his death when he battles Ryukoltsei?
I wonder if InuYasha starts to regret his mindset towards his father once he himself becomes a father. Or at the very least, he starts to understand his father better. Especially if you want to go by the Movie 2 canon where part of Toga's death was from protecting InuYasha and his mom.
Just makes me wonder if InuYasha looks at Moroha or any of his other children and has the thought that it'd break his heart if any of his kids felt resentment towards him like he felt for his own father, especially when everything he ever does is to protect them. And I wonder if it makes InuYasha start to look at his father's memory differently, now that he's a parent himself and would do anything and everything to protect his kids, even if it meant dying and leaving them without a father.
Not that he'd go and try to get himself killed, as he wants to actually be alive so they don't have to grow up like he did, but you know he'd sacrifice himself if it meant his children could live, just like his father did for him (according to movie 2).
I don't know, I just wonder if InuYasha starts to ever regret the way he looked at his father's memory back when he was a teen once he becomes a father to Moroha and starts to understand his father's actions as a parent now that he himself is a parent. Ya know what I mean?
#not that Inuyasha will ever have to worry about missing his daughter's life because nothing bad ever happens to break any of them apart#and the same for any other potential children he and Kagome has#its just a hypothetical#Yashahime? i don't know her#all I know is Teenage InuYasha vs. Papayasha#and how differently the 2 must have thought on the same topics#like their father. and how InuYasha felt so bitter or angry at his dad for leaving him in the name of protecting him#while simultaneously secretly yearning and missing the opportunity to know him#versus Papayasha who looks at Moroha & any other potential kids with the overwhelming understanding that they are his whole world#and he'd do anything to protect them. including laying down his life if it came down to it#& how he realizes that his father felt the same way for him & in that way Inu starts to understand his father in ways he didn't before#but he also understands how hard it is to survive without a parent esp. as a hanyou & refuses to let himself get killed battle-#-leaving Moroha and his other kids at the mercy of struggling in the world without his protection#so he resolves himself that. while he is willing to die for his kids. he must work even harder to STAY ALIVE for them above all else#so that they never have to grow up without him and wonder if he even cared or why he wasn't with them#the way he did with his own father#inuyasha#inukag#moroha#moroha higurashi#inukag child#inukag baby#inukag family#inu no taisho#inuyasha family#inuyasha movie 2#inuyasha headcanons#inuyasha theory#post canon

If I did the math wrong in any way, I am going to slaughter something. Probably myself.
Sesshomaru/Irene: Sora, Hikaru and Akane, Airi, and Towa and Shion
Inuyasha/Kagome: Itsuki and Moroha
Miroku/Sango have way more kids than what I drew here, but the ones I did draw are: Hisui and Gyokuto.
Sesshomaru is very blue in the manga so I made him blue here. :3
Shion is very much the most no-nonsense of the group, and is the cousin that drives Itsuki the least crazy. Hikaru, on the other hand, is the wildest cousin, and often gets into a bunch of chaos alongside Moroha, so Itsuki frequently gets headaches and has to ask Sora to go save the duo before they get themselves killed. Akane spends most of her time in Kururugi Village, living there as a priestess, but that doesn't stop Moroha from trying to take her out to explore and being protective of her.
Irene being close friends with Sango, their kids naturally grew up alongside one another, so everyone is pretty friendly with Hisui, Gyokuto, Kin'u, and their various unnamed siblings. Hisui has a crush on Sora while Gyokuto is constantly flirting with Hikaru, to the half-demon's embarrassment because he doesn't know how to deal with it.
Towa and Airi basically grow up in modern day Japan. Towa flirts with Hojo/Ayumi's daughter.
I think Towa and Airi are already 14 and 16 in 2018??? Or maybe a year or two younger??? So Irene and Maria would meet them when they go to Japan to try the Bone Eater's Well to get back to the Feudal Era??? But my brain doesn't understand numbers and I've been jumping between numbers so freaking confused.
Are Towa/Shion/Moroha 14 in 2018 or 2020 I don’t knoooow

Kissing (Rating - T)
Here's a short InuKag drabble I wrote today. I was gonna post it for WIP Wednesday but I ended up considering it finished. Oh, well! This one was inspired by @shinidamachu and her campaign to reclaim the first kiss attempt as a proper InuKag moment.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Kissing did not come naturally into Inuyasha's thoughts. Having grown up without much parental love, and even less romantic prospects, he didn't know if it ever would. He knew about kissing, of course. People did it all the time. Spouses, lovers, parents and their children, people even kissed their pets. But he'd never kissed anyone before – at least that he could remember. He'd definitely never been described as what one might call particularly loving.
But that day, in that moment, when Kagome had yelled in his face and made a big deal about her appearance – which he'd stopped thinking about if he was being honest – and whether he hated her – was she stupid? Why would he protect her and let her see his human form if he hated her?! - it did enter his mind. As swiftly and suddenly as this spitfire girl had come into his life, he found himself drawn to show her how she made him feel.
Her face was just so close. So perfectly shaped into that cute angry huff she got. They were way too close and he could suddenly think of nothing he wanted more than to lean in the extra few inches and learn what her lips would feel like pressed against his.
And why shouldn't he do it? He should totally do it. Just a little. To see if he even liked it. Who knows? It might be gross. Overrated. It'd be easy enough to find out.
He'd already told her she smelled good, so shouldn't he be more open? More honest about what he'd been feeling for her lately? She wouldn't stop going on about Kikyou, and it would at the very least be an effective way to shut her up. Right?
He grabbed her hand as gently as he could, tired of hearing her tirade. Hell, it hurt to hear she still didn't trust him after he'd bared his damn heart to her on his human night! Her eyes conveyed nothing but confusion at his action. Clearly she hadn't expected it. Yeah, well that made two of them, to be honest.
“You have it wrong...”
The second time he tried was admittedly way later than he'd meant it to be. Kagome was clearly not ready for kissing yet the first time, and he wanted to respect that. He did. Even if it drove him crazy sometimes! But hearing her reiterate her promise right before the final battle, well... It pulled at a deep-rooted longing in his chest. She wasn't going to leave him, even for her own safety. She wanted to stay with him forever. He wanted to stay with her forever. That's what people called marriage, right? So if he was proposing, he should kiss her too, right?
He wanted to. He wanted to so badly... He took her hand, just like last time. She still looked surprised, but not in the same way. She almost looked... expectant? And her hand was reciprocating his hold, just slightly, if not a little sweaty, showing her anxiety.
“Then, if that's what you want... I swear on my life to protect you.”
Kagome's giggle rang in his senses as Inuyasha nibbled at her ear, pressing her up against the outer wall of Kaede's hut. She'd been back with him for three days and he swore it was impossible to keep his hands off her. He'd never figured himself for the kind of man who would be this insatiable just to kiss his woman, but here they were, laughing in hushed voices and stealing touches when they were supposed to be working.
“Y'know,” Kagome grinned, returning his affections by kissing at his neck, “You'd better cut that out, cuz if you don't stop soon, I won't let you stop at all.”
Inuyasha groaned, dipping his head to press their lips together in one last taste before he had to let her go. “Don't remind me I have to travel out of province today... If I back out, that lech will catch on and never let us hear the end of it.”
“You better get going so we can afford our own home quickly, then.”
“Yeah,” he sighed in resignation. “Yeah, you're right.”
His wife waved him goodbye with far too much amusement cheer for his liking, and to his credit he did make it a few steps away from her... But then he cursed and rushed back to sweep her up into another deep kiss, eliciting more laughter from the woman now back in his arms.
“Just saying goodbye properly,” he growled.
She nodded through the kisses before managing to speak. “Come home soon, Inuyasha.”
“Yeah. I'll be back home before you know it.”

Crowned Jewel
Prologue:
Long ago, the Jewel of Four Soul came into existence and with it, a prophecy was born. “It shall be, when she who protects all the earth’s creatures destroys the darkest of evil, balance will return to the land.” Since then, powerful priestesses have protected the Jewel, only for evil to grasp at its power time and time again. Sacrificing herself, the last one took it with her to the next world until the most powerful of them all would be born, the one the prophecy proclaimed.
Chapter One: Flee
Summary: “There is no escape from the violence of the ones who came before us.”
Screams filled the night air. Mothers crying out for their children, men searching for their wives, the sound of blood squelching as bodies were torn apart. Everywhere she looked, demons slaughtered her people, the bodies littering the ground as she dashed into the Great Forest. Pushing back her nausea, she continued to run, adrenaline pumping through her veins. There has to be somewhere I can hide! Surely they know the dangers of The Darkness and would not dare follow me.

Inukag Fluff Week, day 1: Comfort
This is sort of an... Interlude? If sorts? To my day one post from inukag week at the beginning of the summer. Either story can be read as standalones, but they are compliant w/ one another, and if you enjoy this, I think you'll enjoy that. This takes place after the exposition but before the dialogue starts in that one
@inukagfluffweek
~~~~~~
You're There in the Dark
"Inuyasha?" Kagome whispered tentatively into the darkness of the hut. The fire had long since died, and Sango & Miroku had gone to bed in the other room with their children and left Kagome and Inuyasha alone in the main room. Only starlight from the window illuminated the home, the moon dark but for the dim ring that marked its presence in the sky. Kagome sat up, leaning against the wall so she could spot the silhouette between the stars.
Every month for three years, she had glared at the black mark in the sky with disdain as she sneaked out to the well house, silently praying that whatever deity or force had opened the portal in the well to begin with would allow her through again. When she found herself on the dirt floor at the bottom, she instead pleaded for Inuyasha's safety, tears stinging her eyes as she looked up to the roof of the well house instead of the open sky she longed for, untouched by the light pollution of the city. She had only gotten precious few human nights with him, and they had almost always been dangerous if not deadly. And she knew - she knew - that the others would protect him, and there was no Naraku to threaten his safety anymore, but she couldn't be there. She couldn't protect him from whatever might try and hurt him, and she hated knowing that.
Now though, he lay beside her, just as he had for the two weeks since her return to the medieval period. He had clung to her almost from the minute she'd returned, rarely stepping out of arm's reach for more than a moment. It had been the most welcome change among many that she had embraced eagerly while reestablishing herself in the feudal era. Of course they still argued. Almost daily, even. But she was much less likely to storm off in a huff if she was arguing from Inuyasha's lap. From her first night back, when Kagome had crawled to where he'd been seated to sleep and tucked herself under his arm, they had made a habit of curling up together. She'd finally gotten him to lay beside her last week, rather than propping himself up against the wall, but he still put himself between her and the door, the same way he always had when they slept indoors.
Tonight, she had very intentionally gotten up with the excuse of getting a cup of water and returned to his other side, taking the spot closer to the door. Acting as a barrier between the man she loved in his most vulnerable state, and anything and everything that might seek to do him harm. He'd arched a brow at her, but she gave him a look that brokered no argument, and he made none, his face going a bit red in the low light of the small fire they had used to cook dinner.
Taking a deep breath, Kagome turned to look at the sleeping form besides her, smiling softly. His dark human hair was much less visible than his usual stark white in the barely-there light, but Kagome could make out the shape of his face, peaceful and relaxed by sleep. Reaching up, Kagome ran her fingers gently through his hair, tracing the shape of his human ear.
She couldn't see his eyebrows furrow, but she imagined they must have when she heard a soft grunt.
"K'gome?"
"Right here," She assured quietly, smoothing her fingers through his hair. "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you.
She heard a soft huff of breath and the slide of fabric on fabric as he reached over, and she felt two strong arms wrap around her waist.
"Get back here, wench," he muttered, face half-pressed to her waist. Kagome giggled, stroking his hair again.
"I'm not going anywhere," she promised, smiling into the darkness. He stayed there a bit longer before rolling over, looking up at her from where his head now rested in her lap. Her hand came to rest on his chest, covered only by the white underlayer of his suikan. The fire rat overlayer, which they had used as a blanket when they first laid down, was now mostly crumpled beneath him.
"You okay?" He asked after a long moment of silence, and she could feel his eyes on her.
"... Do you remember the first new moon I spent with you?"
He was quiet for a beat, and then groaned softly. "Ugh. The spider priest."
"That's the one," she nodded, mirth in her voice as her fingers toyed gently with the collar of his shirt. "I think… that was the first time it really hit me that you weren't as indestructible as you seemed," she confessed, placing her free hand over her heart. "I'd seen you get hurt before that, but you'd always bounced back. When you told me to run, to save myself... I was so terrified that I was going to lose you."
"You let me lay in your lap like this then, too," he remembered after a moment, turning his head towards her stomach. "... It was the first time since my mother was alive that someone worried about my safety like that."
"And then I never stopped," she chuckled, smoothing his collar back into place. "I know how strong you are, and that you can handle most situations, but it's never stopped me from worrying."
She thought about the last few dark moons; it hadn't taken long for her family to catch on to where she was disappearing to. After she explained Inuyasha's night of vulnerability, they'd been their usual level of understanding. Often she'd wake up slumped against the well with a blanket over her shoulders, or with Sota curled up against her side. It got easier as time passed, but she had never once gone a new moon without feeling that visceral fear that something would happen on the other side of the well without her there to help protect him. The memory alone made the dull ache of the fear flare up again, and her fingers clenched in his shirt.
"Not once."
She looked down again when she felt his hand slide over hers, strong callused fingers wrapping around her own.
"When you were gone… I spent most new moons down the well," he confessed, the pad of his thumb running over the smooth skin of her wrist. "Once the others figured it out, they started coming with, sitting out in the field, so they were always nearby. I just… wanted to be close to you.
Kagome smiled softly, tears pricking at the back of her eyes. Blinking them back, she turned her hand in his, lifting his so she could kiss his knuckle.
"They say great minds think alike, but fools rarely differ," she hummed, lowering their clasped hands to his collar again. "And you know I've always been a fool for you."
The first gray light of dawn began to lend shape to their surroundings, and she could truly see him looking up at her now, his dark human eyes starting to go golden around the edges.
"I'm so glad you're here, Kagome," he admitted, squeezing her hand. She squeezed back, brushing his bangs out of his eyes.
"It's good to be home."
Inuvember Part 2
In honor of @inuvember InuKag Day, the Archive Mods have put together a 30 day InuKag recommendation list: one fic per event prompt, all with a distinct InuKag (as OTP and OT3) flair. Since this is longer than our usual lists, we split it into two parts. Enjoy!
Day 16 Kohaku
Three Is A Crowd by Happy_Ocelot (G)
While stopping by to babysit his cute nieces and nephew, Kohaku comes to the horrifying realization that his beloved sister is in some kind of strange exhibitionist relationship. There were only so many times he could listen to his brother-in-law talking about hitting the ten or twenty children mark before snapping.
Good thing Kagome is there to help.
Humor, post-ending.
Day 17 Kaede
If We Fall Anyway by @soliska (M)
What if the shikon jewel didn’t exist and Naraku never came to be? What if Kagome fell down the well anyway and met a gruff, young inu-hanyou. Would they still become friends? What would be their story?
A tale told in snippets.
Day 18 Totosai
Mamorinuku by Nindeoronra (T)
Inuyasha commissions Totosai to make a new sword. Is it for him or for another?
Day 19 InuKag
Little Family by @xoxopandapanda (T)
Post Canon and A/U: Inuyasha and Kagome's family grows in time, starting with a little child who needs parents to teach him to love.
Day 20 MirSan
Shelter by @lavendertwilight89 (E)
Song fic inspired Stuck with You and Shelter
Inuyasha has been alone most of his life and one moonless night he gets caught up with a young priestess. She saves him and he, in return, helps her. What he doesn't realize is this priestess holds a lot of secrets which may or may not cost both of them their lives...
Day 21 InuKik
Kokoro no Kakera by @callmegri and @kirrtash (M)
She didn’t remember how she got there, only knew that it was warm, and soft. She hadn’t felt warmth since she was brought back to life. Where was she? What happened to her? The last thing she remembered was her reincarnation sitting on the ground next to that waterfall… She didn’t understand why Kagome helped her, again.
When a tired heart starts beating again, gravity itself has to rearrange to make space for it. But old wounds ask for closure before unspoken feelings can bloom, so all the pieces of shattered hearts can fit together.
Day 22 Sess Ships
In Hindsight by @mrfeenysmustache (T)
Hindsight is 20/20. Or.. it’s supposed to be anyway. A Drabble series about overcoming our misconceptions and all the little ways we talk ourselves out of happiness. InuKag Post Canon
Day 23 Kouga Ships
From the Hearts - and the Wrapping Company by @clearwillow (NR)
A gift for UnderwaterOphelia in the IYFF Book Club Secret Santa exchange. Christmas isn't going according to anyone's plans, except Koga's. Between the heat in the apartment making it feel like it's July and the endless boxes Inuyasha and Kagome keep finding, there has to be a good reason for the devious look in their boyfriend's eyes.
Day 24 Other Ships
There's Something In the Mist by @splendentgoddess (X)
A gruesome discovery in the forest is a warning that goes unheeded by the Inu-tachi who have no idea what demonic influences are at play. They will soon have intimate knowledge of what fate awaits them...intimate knowledge of each other.
Day 25 LGBT
The Real Me by @fawn-eyed-girl & @kalcia (E)
Kagome Higurashi is one of the top music journalists in the country, and her latest assignment is to write a story on one of the biggest rock bands in the world: Inutachi. She is immediately attracted to the lead singer, Inuyasha Masaki, a brooding, edgy hanyou who is battling his own inner demons. As Inuyasha and Kagome are increasingly drawn to one another, Kagome becomes more and more determined to discover just what has happened to Inuyasha that caused him to turn down such a dark path, and why she cannot seem to stay away from him.
Day 26 LGBT
Three's Company by @anisaanisa (E)
Threesomes were good. Threesomes were fun. Threesomes were safe. Threesomes didn’t involve feelings. Inuyasha’s in love with his best friend, and it takes five years and long-distance for him to get his head out of his ass.
Day 27 Platonic
Snoring Is the Sixth Love Language by @superpixie42 (T)
Somewhat against his will, Inuyasha finds himself sharing a hut and its one small futon with Shippo after a thunderstorm traps them in a foreign village. But Shippo's snoring means Inuyasha won't be getting any sleep, and instead spends the night alone with his thoughts. A three-year-gap, There Was Only One Bed Prompt fic, filled with found family feels. Rated T for language. Featuring art by Artnisa (AnisaAnisa) !
Day 28 AU
The Captain and the Hanyou by @goshinote (T)
In a world in which youkai have been forced into hiding after the Great War, Captain Higurashi is known as one of the cruelest youkai-hunting pirates. After Captain Higurashi kidnaps Inuyasha, a prized hanyo, a plan is set in motion. Inuyasha will find out Captain Higurashi is nothing like the stories say, and he will discover that nothing is truly as it seems...
Day 29 AU
Aurora by @thunderpot (T)
"It is said that a long time ago in the age of heroes — when Mother Earth was awake and the Gods walked among mortals — there was once a beast created by the Sun that fell in love with a great warrior."
It makes me laugh when s*ssr*nners say “you don’t understand Kagura’s character, she’s not the type of woman who wants to get married or having kids”... well, if you want to judge a character in such superficial way, if there is a character who always gave the impression of being NOT interested at all in romanticism, who only spent his life traveling and fighting, that is SESSHOMARU. Yet you never had any doubts that he might want to get married and have children just because you’re attracted to him. Finally, if Sesshomaru got married, surely it can happen to Kagura as well.
The second nonsense is when they say that Kagura wanted freedon and not a man... so can't a woman want more than one thing in her life??? And what connection is there between wanting to be free from slavery and wanting a man or not? The two things simply have nothing to do with each other! Kagura was happy that Sesshomaru was with her during her last moments, so it’s much more logical or natural to think that she could have been happy also to live with Sesshomaru.
Third nonsense is calling SessKagu “toxic”... I guess you didn’t pay attention to the typical dynamic of Rumiko Takahashi couples going through up and down moments, quarrels and apart from once Kagura got angry with Sesshomaru for a moment of frustration because it was about her life and her freedom, their relationship has practically always been one of mutual respect. Even 100% canon couples like InuKag and MirSan had their moments of misunderstanding. So I really don't see where this "they would be a toxic couple" comes from. Among other things, the two of them have a lot in common.
I've been wanting to write this post for a while in defense of SessKagu and finally I did it! But we know why they say such things, they simply don't accept the fact someone may want to ship Sesshomaru with another woman who is not Rin and they don’t accept that Sesshomaru may have appreciated another woman.
Inextricably Knotted (an Inukag + Jane Eyre AU) [Chapter 3]
Summary: Kagome Higurashi was orphaned as a baby and raised by her cruel aunt until the age of ten, after which she went to school and learned the art of service and self-suppression. Now eighteen, Kagome takes a job as the governess of Shippo, the young ward of the great and mysterious Lord Inuyasha Taisho.
But as Kagome gets to know her bemusing master, a ghost seems to haunt his estate, hinting that there is a long-lost secret hiding on the third floor.
Chapter 3: Gregarious and Communicative
The next morning came quickly. With its master home, the house stirred to life a full hour before it normally did. The very air seemed lighter, and servants who had before made a habit of breakfasting with fearful nighttime stories now bustled happily down corridors and fluttered in and out of rooms. Kagome wasn’t sure how Mr. Taisho's presence would alter her operations with Shippo, but she expected it would at least somewhat.
However, to her surprise, she did not lay eyes on him once during the day. Shippo was particularly restless and fidgety during his lessons, but the master did not come to see him. Or her. She supposed his ankle may have kept him relatively bedridden, so she didn’t allow herself to wonder about it for long.
But just as Kagome prepared to retire herself and Shippo for the night, Kaede sent for them to come to the drawing room.
When she and the boy arrived, Kagome was surprised to find Mr. Taisho standing—his back to her and his hand braced on the mantle over the fireplace. His ankle did not appear wrapped. Demonic healing, she realized.
Kaede was the one who greeted them; a cup of tea was anxiously flung her way, and Shippo was given another small box, no doubt containing more goodies from wherever in the world a man like Mr. Taisho gets presents for a ward he seems to so apathetically provide for.
Shippo, never the one for subtlety, did not read the wired atmosphere. “Does Miss Higurashi get a present, too?”
Kagome’s head whipped from Mr. Taisho’s solemn back to Shippo’s gloriously idiotic face. She wanted to run away.
The master did not turn. “Does Miss Higurashi like presents?”
Shippo and Kaede both looked her way expectantly, and it took her a moment to realize that she was supposed to respond to his impossible question.
“I wouldn’t know, sir. Presents have many faces to them, do they not?” She prayed this response would satisfy him enough to allow her quick retirement.
He did not oblige. “Indeed. Some less innocent than others. You are right for wishing to inspect them all before accepting.”
Again, two pairs of eyes waited for her continuation.
“Life very seldom gives gifts with no cost.”
These words finally stirred him to turn toward her. The firelight behind him, his front was shrouded in shadows, the mute lamplight hardly enough to allow the observation of her mortal eyes. She wondered if he forgot her human limitations.
His voice was gruff. “Keep me company for a while, if you would. It has been a long time since I’ve been home, and listening to the chittering of children and old maids sounds like a terrible pastime.”
Unable to help herself, she answered sardonically, “And since I am conveniently between the stages of childhood and old maidhood, I am temporarily deemed an appropriate alternative?”
His lips twitched. “Temporarily.”
I’d have it no other way, Kagome thought. She approached the fireplace and took a seat in one of the luxurious leather armchairs. She did not use the armrests; instead, she kept herself at the edge of the seat. She would not let him think her comfortable.
After commanding Shippo to play in the far side of the room, Mr. Taisho moved to take the seat beside her, his chair identical to hers. After a moment, he grew agitated. “Well, speak.”
Kagome raised a brow. “How could I know what topics would entertain you?”
“I don’t give a damn what you talk about. Just chase away the silence,” he said, hooded eyes flicking to her. At her stiffness, he seemed to remember himself, though his expression remained hard: “I don’t mean to speak in such an imperious manner. I’m used to telling others, 'Do this,' and it is done. I’m not used to conversing via mere requests—but I assure you it is one.”
“And yet I assume if I sit here in rebellious silence, you will find some way to punish me for insubordination?”
His head tilted to the side—rather like a canine, she noticed—and he faced her more fully, black brows now holding confusion alongside severity. “No. But I may punish you by calling you to me like this more often, if only to see you squirm until you finally acquiesce. All I want is your free conversation.” By the end of his speech, the corners of his lips had risen slightly.
“You do see, sir, that if every ‘free’ conversation is preceded by my summons and ended by my dismissal, you cannot blame me for perceiving it an order, no matter your assurance of the opposite.”
“Is that so? You may claim that, but I doubt you’ve ever responded to any of your previous masters' orders in such a… liberal way.” He was fully smirking now.
Kagome looked away, blushing. “You asked for me to give my thoughts as an equal, so I’ve given them.”
“I would hate to see how you speak to your inferiors,” he joked.
Kagome poked the inside of her cheek with her tongue. “I treat my inferiors perhaps better than I treat my own friends.”
He sipped his wine, relaxing further in his chair, though his eyes remained locked onto hers. “Kaede told me you received your education at Shikon school. Did you have friends there?”
Her next breath was shallow. “Just one.”
“And where is she now?”
Kagome picked at her nails, breaking his gaze. “Dead.”
A beat passed before his response. “I’m sorry. I heard of a terrible typhus outbreak at that school around seven years ago.”
“There was, but she died of consumption.”
“I apologize, Miss Higurashi; in asking you to chase away the mire of my thoughts, I didn’t intend to make you sift through your own.”
She swallowed. “Shadows, you called them.”
Mr. Taisho tipped his wine glass at her before bringing it to his lips for a long sip. She watched his mouth curve along the glass, remembering that if he were to open it only slightly more than he had thus far while talking, she would see the points of those fangs.
She took a sip of her still-steaming tea. “I assume then that it would defeat the point to ask you about that.”
“One would assume,” he said, redirecting his golden eyes to the fire, their color blooming to life.
“Alright, then,” said Kagome quietly, “What is your relationship to Shippo?”
“Ah—a question about a result of my previous methods of distracting myself. At least my new methods are less consequential,” he chuckled dryly.
“Shippo is a… consequence of you pursuing distraction?”
“You could say that. At least, indirectly.”
Kagome waited expectantly.
He sighed. “I suppose I’ve no right to ask for another change of topic when you’ve done so beautifully in accommodating me.”
Kagome had to school her grin. “No, you don’t.”
Flexing his clawed fingers on the armrests, Mr. Taisho began slowly, “About sixteen years ago, I was abroad acting in full delinquency… I don’t suppose it appropriate to give you the details, but I will give you enough to empower your strong imagination, which I know you have. I met a beautiful fox demoness, and she was my…” his eyes glazed over in something like abhorrence, “…distraction. Before you think it, no—Shippo is not my son. Anyone with eyes can see he has none of my bloodline, as he is a full demon. But he is her son.” He filled his lungs with breath, and she couldn’t tell if he was trying to force a smile or trying to smother a grimace. “His father was a moronic aristocrat of little consequence other than his exposure of my lover’s infidelity.”
“You discovered them?”
“In my own hotel room. I knew she was there—as she had been for two months—and I meant to surprise her with my early return, so I trod silently. I heard them speaking and giggling through the door.” He picked up his glass again, but instead of sipping it, he merely swirled it a few times. Something to busy his hands. “What was it she called me? An ugly abomination too stupid to realize she’d made me her spoony?”
Kagome flinched. Her grip tightened on the leather, her pale knuckles turning impossibly whiter. “How cruel,” she whispered.
“You’ve never felt jealousy, have you, Miss Higurashi? Of course you haven’t—for that would require that you experience love, first. When the day finally comes that you feel the prick, you’ll learn that one can only feel jealousy when the person usurping your love is truly better than you. When I saw who the man was after barging through that door, all jealousy was replaced with mere disgust—for him, yes, and also for her, as I saw her sophistication evaporate in light of the type of man that she truly desired. I saw her for who she truly was, her unintelligence and frivolity, and I was glad to be rid of her.”
Kagome considered his revelation, but could find nothing to add about it; he was right—she had no experience. “So if Shippo is not your son, then why do you have him?”
“His mother is dead—developed a tumor only a couple of months after his birth—and his father is a good-for-nothing whose death or life I have no way of discovering. While she was dying, she sent me a letter claiming that he was mine, but I knew she only said it to increase the odds of me caring for him after her death. I agreed regardless.”
“Why?”
He leaned forward in his chair and turned his head to see Shippo playing quietly by himself in the corner. A toy train, she realized. “His parentage isn’t his fault. Plus, I regained a spirit of repentance for my wildness after that experience, and I saw my caring for him as a way to partly redeem myself.”
“So… this life of repentance—what does it entail?”
He stretched his neck to lean his head over the back of the chair, a strange, self-loathing grin spreading across his face. His furrowed brow cast a dark shadow over his golden eyes, snuffing out their color. “Much inward turmoil, I’m coming to find out.”
Kagome said nothing, and he craned his neck to look at her, the glint in his eye mysterious. He continued, “Can I paint you a picture this time, Miss Higurashi, for you to analyze? Imagine yourself a young man, barely out of boyhood, and a decision is offered to you by your own family with only positive outcomes articulated. You would benefit personally, and the family would gain, as well. You accept—only to find out almost immediately that you had been deceived by all parties, and you were left with intolerable suffering while they distantly enjoyed the benefits. You flee your home country to escape these consequences of error—it was an error, not a sin, I must emphasize—by seeking refuge in the bosom of heathenish distraction. You acknowledge your wrong and return home, intent on bearing the burden for the rest of your days—only to find that, every moment, you are tempted again by a robed spirit of light that claims to be an angel. It is telling you, ‘Seek happiness, child of Man, for it is ever more in your reach.’ What would you do? Would you embrace the angel, or condemn it as Satan’s finest devil?”
Kagome hung on his every word. His eyes had arrested hers, molten and scorching. She cleared her throat, “And you’ve… tried every avenue of undoing the decision?”
“There is no earthly method I have not researched and attempted. All in vain.”
“You said that the decision itself was not a sin. But would the undoing of the decision be one?”
“Many would say so. But I’ve made my peace with it.”
“Other people are not my concern; would God find it a sin?”
He stayed silent, returning his gaze to the fire.
“If that is a yes, then I can assure you that your ‘angel’ is indeed a devil in disguise. If making the decision had consequences you did not foresee, would making a deal with a devil in turn prove any different?”
He looked at her again, his face troubled and sullen. “So, were you shaped by your little school to think that suffering was noble? Would your teachers tell me to find meaning in my suffering and consider it honing for heaven?”
“I did not like the teachers at Shikon, sir, and what they thought of divinity often went against what I found in my scriptures. But I can tell you what I have done during my most courageous moments: I stopped looking for an earthly solution or hope, and remembered the greater Source, who is said to identify with my sufferings on earth. I cannot say that it removed the suffering, but it gave me the strength to bear it better.”
"But the instrument—" he began, suddenly desperate, “God, who gives the strength, ordains the instrument. Can that not be delivered through an earthy medium?”
Kagome did not like the direction of his meaning; not because she could not understand it, but because she did not have a rebuttal in her arsenal when she knew that there was one, somewhere. “I’m afraid I cannot imagine any further, sir. I fear the conversation has gone past me, and any additional attempt to converse will likely lead to my talking nonsense—and I don’t wish to give you bad counsel.”
He scoffed. “You’re a perfect little fairy, aren’t you? So careful with your words—one would think you’d burst aflame for saying something you didn’t feel in your heart was true. Can’t a man seek a word or two of encouragement, even if it has a tinge of dishonesty?”
Kagome offered him a sympathetic smile. “If you want idle affirmation, I suggest rethinking your prejudices against children and old maids.”
He laughed outright at that—three strong laughs that jostled his broad shoulders. “I suppose I should.”
Silence overtook the room, and Kagome wondered if he would dismiss them. Moments before she got the courage to ask, he clicked his tongue, echoing the crackles of the fire. “You claim that you resented Shikon, Miss Higurashi, but in many ways, its burdens and chains still cling to you. You never laugh,” he mused, reclining his head. “But there is something beneath your direct gaze that seems to peek through, like a little bird spying through the bars of a cage. What lies beyond, it wonders? It tells itself it is content to sit and sing as it is bid—but if those doors were to swing open…”
He paused, and Kagome realized she was holding her breath. She could not wrench her eyes from his, which were so intensely piercing that she felt blinking would be an affront.
“…then the bird would break free in a moment, and it would soar—cloud high.”
Mr. Taisho did dismiss them after that, and Kagome felt shrouded in a strange fog as she undressed and crawled into bed. Her mind was consumed by their conversation—particularly his final words.
She craned her neck to peer out of the window beside her resting place. The moon was high and bright, gracing the terrain with a faint pale glow. Her eyes began to flutter closed, long blinks blurring her vision as the forest slowly came out of focus.
But the glimmer of a small point of light peeked through the trees, growing larger and closer by the second. A ghostly croon invaded from the small crack of her window, and Kagome’s eyes opened fully. She rose into a sitting position and rubbed her eyelids. When she reopened them, she nearly shouted in surprise to see that the creature had breached the tree line and was now flying—yes flying—right toward the house.
Its body was like that of a snake, its head like that of an eastern dragon mixed with a fish. It seemed the embodiment of moonlight, and it moved as in a dance of swaying and slithering.
It seemed to charge right for her window. But as it came close enough for Kagome to see that its size was at least fifteen feet in length, it wrenched itself to turn sharply upward, to where the third floor was.
As soon as it left the view of her window, its spectral sounds halted completely, leaving an equally phantasmal silence in its absence. Her heart pounded in her ears as she waited, waited for a scream or crash or quake—but nothing came.
Kagome knew it was not a dream. She had heard the servants mention witnessing strange lights in the woods, and she had no doubt that this was the creature responsible. She wondered if there were more than one.
It took nearly an hour for her heart to calm enough to attempt sleeping again. She spent most of that hour mulling over whether to ask Kaede—or anyone—about what she saw. Mr. Taisho had all but told her that creatures lived in those woods; she supposed there was no reason to feel so surprised, and there was no true evidence that the creature was even dangerous. Kagome set her mind to not worry so much about it; living in the house of a demon would likely provide worse surprises than this in time, and asking too many questions might bring her into trouble.
The sooner she accepted it, the easier her life here would be.
“Do you also find it unfair when inu/kik shippers claim that Kagome is Inuyasha's second choice and he's only with her because he sees Kikyo in her even though that was explicitly disproven in the manga?” Preach.
I find it weird how Certain people always have something to say about inukag fans supposedly downplaying inukik (which I honestly rarely see, most people are really good about acknowledging her importance all the while loving Inukag, I mean yes some have their reservations for the way inukik is portrayed but to each their own) yet never say anything when it’s the opposite, especially coming from that fandom that degrades Kagome almost regularly.
THANK YOU anon I'm so glad someone is with me on this lol.
People in this fandom always bad-mouth Inukag shippers like we aren't one of the most wholesome fandom out there. 90% of my inukag mutuals here respect Kikyo and the few that do dislike her at least back up their arguments by stuff that actually happened in the manga.
Meanwhile Inu/kik shippers constantly call Kagome abusive (but have no problems with Inuyasha punching children), talk about how they want Kagome to suffer (I've seen many of them celebrate the fact that she didn't raise her daughter in HNY), and they literally nitpick everything that Kagome does to villainize her (I've seen some people call her heartless because she stood up Hojo on a date lmaoo). Inu/kik shippers have reblogged my KAGKIK posts to hate on Kagome. They've reblogged my Moroha gifset to hate on Kagome and claim that Kikyo should have been her mother (or alternatively they make facebook groups dedicated to hating Moroha because she "would have been prettier and smarter if Kikyo was her mother"). I've met maybe 2 or 3 inu/kik shippers in my 10 years in this fandom who liked Kagome and they really struggled to acknowledge Inuyasha's love for her. Usually they're the type of people who think Kagome and Kikyo are the same person so Inuyasha "ended with Kikyo through Kagome".
Most inukag shippers just vibe and talk about inukag and when someone comes into our inbox or our posts to talk about Kikyo or Inu/kik we're called "insecure" for defending our ship. But inu/kiks are not insecure when they spread misinformation and lies, like when they twist Rumiko's words or straight up invent interviews to make people believe that she was forced to make inukag endgame? Or when they edit translations to make Inuyasha say things he never said?
Also Inukag shippers who dislike Kikyo are called misogynistic for disliking one female character but inu/kik shippers who says that Kikyo is the only good & strong female character in the series are not? I've also seen people get really mad at the theory that Inuyasha met Kikyo because her soul would one day be Kagome's because it's "misogynistic to say that Kikyo died so Inuyasha can have a girlfriend" but they're not mad at people who say that Inuyasha is just using Kagome as a replacement for Kikyo???
Be serious lol anyone who thinks we're so much worse than them has their head stuck in the sand. I'm NOT saying we're perfect but I'm tired of people bad mouthing my people. Coming back to the inukag fandom in 2020 after spending some time in other fandoms was such a breath of fresh air because this fandom is really overwhelmingly wholesome compared to all the other fandoms I've seen lol.
This is a entry for day 28 and day 29 of @inuvember event Inuvember 2023. This is a modern day AU featuring my fan Inukag children.
The alarm clock wake up Kagome, causing her to open her eyes. Getting up, she head to the bathroom to take her morning shower as her husband groan that he has wake up. The white hair man stretched his head as he start to open his eyes.
In his bedroom, fifteenth years old Akio get up from bed and start getting dressed, putting on his school uniform.
Kagome open the bedroom to see her fifteen years old daughter Moroha still sleeping in bed. Kagome feel a bit annoyed at her daughter laziness and she shout, “MOROHA, GET UP!” The black hair girl got surprised awake that she fall off of her bed. Moroha quickly got up and said, “Okay, okay, mom. Good morning to you too.”
Thirteen years old Izayo peek out of her bedroom and ask her mother, “Mom, I hear yelling. Is everything okay?” Kagome reply, “Yeah. I have to get your lazy older sister out of bed. Please get dressed, honey. You got a school day today.” Izayo close the door of her bedroom as Kagome head downstairs to get breakfast ready.
After his shower, Inuyasha start getting dressed for the work day as he hear his family getting their breakfast outside.
Akio, Moroha, and Izayo are having a quick morning meal while the younger of the kids, twin eight years old boys Haru and Atsugi, get cereal as Kagome work in the kitchen.
Haru and Atsugi grab their bowls of cereal and were about to run off to the living room until Kagome catch them in time and said, “Hold it right there! You two know not to bring food in the living room.”
The kids get their school supplies and backpacks and then head out of the door to their parents cars. Akio, Moroha, and Izayo get in Inuyasha’s car, while Kagome get the boys in her car.
Inuyasha drop Akio and Moroha off at the high school they go to, with Inuyasha saying to his twins, “You two have a good day at school today!” Inuyasha then drive off to Izayo’s school. The twins head inside while other students are entering as well.
Once they reach Izayo’s middle school, Inuyasha said to his daughter as she get off, “Alright, have a good day at school, Izayo! I love you!” Izayo said back, “I love you too, dad!” Inuyasha then drive to his work.
Kagome drop Haru and Atsugi off at their elementary school.
Arriving at the nursing home where she works, Kagome parks her car and head inside. She find the staff room and changed in her nurse clothes.
Kagome find Kaede, the 80s old woman she is taking care of, in her bedroom, looking out in the window. Kaede has some traumatic events since the Americans’ bombing in World War II which made Kaede lost her right eye. Kaede turn to Kagome and said, “Big sister.” It is a bit sad for Kagome that Kaede think she is her older sister Kikyo.
In high school, Akio and Moroha head to their home rooms. In her home room, Moroha meet her friends Kin’u and Gyokuto.
In her middle school, Izayo meet with her friend Hisui and her cousins Towa and Setsuna.
After school is over, Akio and Moroha walk home, with the black hair girl saying, “I’m glad that school is done.”
At home, the kids get ready for the most hard part of school ever, homework.
Kagome said to Moroah, “Here, let me help.” The mother look at her elder daughter’s homework while saying, “Let’s see....” only to get overwhelmed with the problems as Kagome think to herself, ‘Oh my kama. This changed from my high school years. Maybe that changed it, or maybe I just suck at it after so long. I don’t know if I can...’ Worried, Inuyasha ask his wife, “Kagome, are you okay?” Kagome reply, “I just need a nap.” Kagome then lay down on the couch as Moroha quickly said, “Maybe we have too much homework for one night.”
