it's a little early for egg/human designs but in my mind pepito is like... the opposite of bobby in most ways visually. bobby was a little mini roier, but i like to think pepito has longer dark hair, like some of the other parents (or black, like the dad that hasn't been alive to be around)
the kind of long hair that falls in pepito's face, that would be easily pushed out of the way with a headband. but pepito prefers to let the curtain of hair fall in the way. it's an easy way to avoid conversations and eye contact.
i like to think bobby asked for a matching headband with roier almost as soon as he realized roier had a headband. pepito isn't going to ask, and roier won't offer.

havent thought about death note in a minute but every time i remember (in the anime at least, not sure about the manga) Light still uses the pronoun "boku" for himself when revealing that he's a mass murderer, i clutch my chest and fall to the floor. "That's right, I'm Kira *with gentle boyish charm*"

Is there a Jason or Bruce centric fic where Jason and Bruce sit down and have a talk, Jason starts bringing up how B should have killed Joker or at least made it so he couldn't hurt anyone ever again, and Bruce is just like "if I had beaten Joker that badly, I wouldn't have stopped until he was dead. And then I would have moved on to the next villain. Then the next. Then the next. Until I turned into a serial killer bent on killing every drug dealer, every corrupt businessman, every minor villain in Gotham." and something clicks with Jason that if Bruce killed someone with his own hands he probably wouldn't stop?

okay final DA2 thoughts: for all that it’s a game about power, and using ideology to justify power, and also runs up against the theme in many places of people becoming what you expect them to be--that is, if you treat people like brutes, they become brutal--it doesn’t really address these themes in a satisfying way. it doesn’t quite have the thematic unity of purpose that would take it from a good RPG to a great RPG.
but it is a good RPG. moving from a roving-all-over-Ferelden story to a exploring a single city over the course of three acts in six years is a great decision! the game is neither padded to be overly long, nor too short, though act 3 does feel a tad rushed due to its development history, i think. the cast of characters is all pretty good, and it feels related to its predecessor in satisfying ways while also still being its own story. it doesn’t suffer from middle-of-the-trilogy syndrome that a lot of narratives do when a one-off story gets expanded, and i think the distinct protagonists and structures of each DA game help with this a lot.
it’s also a step in the right direction in terms of better art direction; DA:I has, i think, absolutely amazing interstitial and secondary art, plus the game itself looks very nice (although a bit in that bland high realist style that all triple-A games must now conform to). DA:I also has some sick music. the combat is more fun that DA:O, though not as fun as DA:I (if i remember, it’s been a while since i played that one). inventory management is somehow even worse. the DLC missions that came with the pack that was on sale kind of suck balls--they don’t fit into the narrative of the base game at all, and feel very tacked on--but i always feel that dlc in bioware games is unsatisfying, and normally i don’t go out of my way to acquire it. so i’m not really disappointed by that, it’s just sort of meh.
on my "RPGs in my Steam library” ranking list i’d put it ahead of DA:O, FO4, DX:HR, and ME1, but behind the original DX, FO:NV, DA:I, and Skyrim.

hiya ralph, what do you mean by 'i don't think he was talking about leaks'? was that in reference to louis's 'gutted' tweet? and on a related note, what are your thoughts on the three songs we've heard, if you'd care to share? 'all along' with that ed in manchester reference, my goodness!!!
The link I accounted was called "LT said use a burner account". He's explicitly said he doesn't want his unreleased songs to be made public. I have no problem with listening to leaks, even if Louis hates it, but I am going to be clear that I think it's likely that he hates it.
I have so many thoughts about the three songs we've got already, particularly Lucky Again, which is for LT2 (and I think the only song written for LT2, although we can't be sure about The Way I Do).
Lucky Again suggests that LT2 will be everything I wanted it to be. I've been really optimistic about Louis' career ever since the first livestream - there was a confidence and coherence in the way he executed his vision that was missing from Walls. Lucky Again has all of that. It feels like he's found his voice in so many ways - sonically, the way he sings, writing songs for his own accent. The sonic pallet is so specific and interesting.
I've been a little obsessed with Lucky Again, but I also really like All Along and wish it had been included on Walls. I would be really interested in why the decision was made. It's very tempting, as someone who already knew they'd seen Ed in Manchester, to assume the decision was about the lyrics. But even if it was, it might not be quite in the way that we think (or example it might be about balance of themes and ideas in the album. Could you have this and 'Always You' on the same album?).
I have many, many other thoughts. It's hard not to be overwhelmed with levels of thoughts and feelings about how directly they reference Harry.
But there's something else that I've been thinking since Walls came out, about the way Louis writes songs about love. Over a long period of time he's written songs about a longstanding deep love, with difficult times, and an ambiguous, but optimistic present. And I'm fascinated with whether that tells us something about his relationship, the story he wants to tell about his relationship, the way he feels able to make art about his relationship, or none o those things.

Early visual development for Wish (2023) by Griselda Sastrawinata-Lemay and Brittney Lee.
An earlier version of the film saw Star take on a human form as a magical, glowing character inspired by Peter Pan. Ultimately, the creative team reconceptualized Star as an ethereal, playful entity resembling Mickey Mouse. "Now Star and Asha have an emotional journey. They are soulmates." -Allison Moore.

The Italian restaurant in my mom’s hometown WAS definitely a mob front. The owner briefly served in the Italian military, immigrated to America in his twenties back in the early 70s, mysteriously had enough money to open a chain of Italian restaurants and was convicted for trafficking cocaine across the Virginia/West Virginia area and spent 15 years in prison.
My mom had worked as a waitress at the place while she was a teenager and throughout her 20s and she realized that when she was sent to the restaurant’s sister location in West Virginia in a mysteriously packed car by her mysteriously nice boss, it probably wasn’t pizza ingredients she was hauling. It was the 80s. She was a tiny, very naive, conventionally attractive church girl with no criminal record so she was the perfect unwitting drug mule.
The thing was, this restaurant and the man who operated it were locally loved. Beyond large scale organized cocaine trafficking, food was his other passion. Everyone waited anxiously for him to get out of prison and when he did this guy started a crusade against the corrupt local sheriff’s office. He started doing anti-police brutality advocacy work WHOLEHEARTEDLY. Donating to local families who had been victims and participating in local drives and awareness campaigns.
Made men usually do local charity work but the balls on this guy to take up sword and spear against shitty corrupt ineffectual law enforcement. Incredible. One thing about Appalachians is that we hate the cops and we love social agitators. This guy lived a long eventful life and died recently of natural causes and the overwhelming outpouring of love for him on Facebook was incredible, a uniting force that the town had not seen in decades, everybody was sharing their favorite stories about him and I’m sure local law enforcement was fuming.

i know that a lot of people take issue with the fact that pakku only agrees to teach katara because he realizes that she’s the granddaughter of the woman he tried to get with a bajillion years ago, but i actually see that moment of him realizing that kanna left to escape their marriage as a moment of self-reflection from him. like, imagine having to contend with the fact that your rancid vibes drove the love of your life away after having just publicly humiliated her fourteen year old granddaughter who was begat on the literal other side of the earth because how that’s far she went to escape him. sokka gets the moment of realizing “oh, men and woman are ontologically equal in their capacities, and divisions between genders are socially assigned and arbitrary,” but that isn’t really pakku’s deal at all. pakku’s deal is more like, “oh, my unyielding insistence on adhering to and imposing unjust patriarchal traditions actually makes me deeply unpleasant to be around and drives my loved ones away. maybe I should take a fucking chill pill perhaps.”
like, the fact that katara ultimately loses the fight and nothing she actually says or does persuades him is interesting, because it means that his reflection is internal, his moment of revelation not brought about by didactic moralizing, but through taking a long, hard look in the mirror, and realizing that being kind is more important than being right. and that’s why he seems to make an effort to be friendlier and more helpful, more so than making any effort to become a male feminist and fight for women’s rights. sokka, for example, initially has a narrow view of gender because his worldview is limited and then it expands, but pakku, by contrast, is literally a member of the white lotus; he is old and worldly, so he clearly already understands that their tribe’s traditions are not ontologically necessitated, but he nonetheless supports them because they benefit him. it is only when he learns that the love of his love literally escaped their tribe and left behind everything she ever knew just to avoid him that he decides to reevaluate his staunch insistence on clinging to his patriarchal values. and who wouldn’t. i mean, that’s gotta fucking hurt!
i know that katara’s fight against him does feel like a grand feminist moment as she fights for her ideals and her rights as a girl, and to her (and to us as the audience) it certainly does feel that way, but to pakku, his change of heart is one of realizing that he should probably stop being an asshole to every woman he’s ever met while he still has a few good years left. a core motif of katara’s arc is that she cannot actually preach her ideals and simply enlighten every asshole she meets, as much as she’d certainly like to; enlightenment comes from within. and so it is pakku’s regrets that motivate him to be kinder, because it’s never too late to change for the better. and that’s kind of beautiful actually.

do you guys ever think about how Wyll is introduced as an archetypal fantasy hero, but then it turns out he’s a warlock, who made a pact with a devil. Do you ever think about how Ansur is described as this fantastical dragon of myth, but then when you find him, he’s turned into an undead monstrosity. Do you think about how when Wyll does the right thing, he is punished to become more monstrous. Do you think about how as Wyll’s warlock powers grow, his spells get more horrific. Do you think about how Ansur was killed by his closest friend. Do think about how Wyll was cast out by the most important person in his life. do you guys ever think about Ansur and Wyll.
