WIP Wednesday

I'm gonna be on Pacific Time for the next couple of weeks, so after this one I'll be doing WIP Wednesday/Six Sentence Sunday on my Wednesday/Sunday for a bit. It's all terribly exciting and novel. So have a reasonably long snippet to celebrate (don't say I never do anything nice for y'all xoxo)

“That is quite enough.” Silence falls immediately as Henry’s voice slices through the argument. The PPOs snap to attention, Cash raises an eyebrow, and Alex… Alex just stares. He’s suddenly, acutely aware that all the times they ever played with Henry’s royal authority—the kneeling, the deference, the calling him sir—it was just that: playing. It was nothing compared to the Prince Henry of Wales voice that now has grown adults, trained bodyguards, falling back in deference to a twenty-two year old giving them an order, just because said twenty-two year old was born into an institution with almost a millennium of history behind it.  “What do you all think is more likely?” Henry continues sharply. “That the notoriously media-savvy First Son, someone who is already being eviscerated in the media for an incident that he bears partial responsibility for at most, decided to take a swing at me knowing that we’d have to face the press the moment we walk out of here? Something to pass the time whilst we waited to find out whether our lives were in danger, perhaps? Or is it more likely that I fell awkwardly whilst being shoved rather unceremoniously into a cupboard?” He folds his arms, staring down each of the PPOs in turn in a way that leaves Alex vaguely impressed that they’re not wetting themselves. It doesn’t, however, escape his attention that Henry isn’t looking at him. “Frankly, I assumed employment by the Crown would require a higher level of aptitude. Was I wrong?”

#I fucking hate doctors and the medical field so much #I was FINALLY starting to get on the right path #called a php place and think I know where I’m going #have a therapist I’ve been talking to here and there #I’ve been trying to get into a psych evaluation right? #called 5+ places the other day and they all had 5-8 month long waitlists #I need to get most of this shit done before June #so that ain’t gonna work #called the psych place my doctor referred me to #(would like to add that I did call this same place right after my doctor visit a few months ago and they never called me back) #so I had no hope they were even going to pick up #I was shocked when I heard someone picked up and even more shocked when they said they had an opening for fucking Wednesday #literally I felt like everything was finally aligning #I scheduled the appt for a zoom meeting at 10am #then I get a bunch of random emails saying my appointment was changed #now I have two different appointments- Wednesday and Thursday both at 9am and with a totally different doctor #so I was like???? ok guessing something happened but I didn’t think much of it - called to figure out what day it actually is #when I called to confirm they told me that I can’t be tested until I get an internal referral #I told them I did get a referral??? #they looked at it and it was just a referral for depression not adhd or anything else #but then when they looked more into it they found in the notes she wanted me to get adhd testing #SO she just forgot to add it to my referral #I get people make mistakes #but this is like the 4th time something like this has happened lately #I’m just trying to be healthy #and it is fucking RIDICULOUS how incredibly hard it is to find the proper help #also the girl yesterday when I made the appointment said yes to all my questions but sounds like she doesn’t know what she’s talking about #was like ‘does this test for adhd and autism?’ ‘yeah for sure’ and then I find out they don’t even test for autism #so now I have to find a totally different person to either do both or just test for autism #either way I feel incredibly disheartened and overwhelmed and sad

Aside from a tin of looseleaf chrysanthemum tea and a random assortment of dried spices, the kitchen was empty; with a small frown Karyn exited the kitchen once more and trundled down the hall toward where Death still reclined in the living room. She peeked her head around the corner with a raised eyebrow and spoke with faux levity. “Hey. Quick question.” “Hm?” “There’s like nothing to eat in this apartment?” “No, there isn’t.” Death grimaced. “And as I had no intention of leaving you alone while also asleep to rectify the issue, it wasn’t possible to fix that before night fell. Tomorrow if it suits you then I can go out and see for such things.” “I can come with you. My feet and legs are mostly fine, and I’ll be awake,” Karyn said dryly. “Anyway, we could just go now. Where are we, anyway? There’s got to be a convenience store or something open.”
