Retelling The Hobbit Chapter 15: Unattached First chapter / Previous / Next Read full comic on: Webtoon/A03
Other blogs : Instagram/Tumblr Sideblog
Thank you for reading! The next chapter of this comic adaptation of The Hobbit will be titled (drumroll)....The Song of the Lonely Mountain!
Check under the cut for notes on the callbacks to previous chapters of this comic, and to Tolkien stories like the Unfinished Tales! —-
—-
One of my guiding ideas for this comic is that the story is being written/drawn by Bilbo Baggins, an  “unreliable narrator,” who has a biased way of recounting events. As the comic goes on, parts of the story get retold through new perspectives (or through the eyes of other characters), and you realize the initial version you read was incomplete.
A lot of you probably noticed that this chapter features a ton of callbacks to the earliest chapters of this comic! We saw child Bilbo and Gandalf's friendship told from Bilbo's POV in Chapter 3.....but in this chapter we see it retold from Gandalf's POV. However, Belladonna Took is our biggest instance of that!   Not to overexplain my own writing, but Chapter 1 is an older Bilbo painting an idealized happily-ever-after fairytale picture of Belladonna, while Chapter 15 features a younger Bilbo telling a far less optimistic version of her life.  While there's truth to both of them, neither of them is the full truth.
In the Fellowship of the Ring, Bilbo tells Frodo that ‘books need to have good endings,' like endings where everyone "lives happily ever after." If I were to continue this comic to the end of the novel, Bilbo’s habit of “rewriting things to be happier" would become a whole Thing.
Second: Much of this chapter is taken directly from “The Unfinished Tales: The Quest For Erebor.” That story was Tolkien’s attempt to unite the tone of The Hobbit with LOTR, by having Gandalf explain what The Hobbit looked like from *his* perspective. The gay line about Bilbo feeling incapable of settling down into a Traditional Marriage with a Wife And Kids is taken almost directly from the Unfinished Tales. So are all the lines where Gandalf reflects on what Bilbo was like as a child, and the moment where Bilbo reflects that all of his desire for adventure has dwindled to a private dream.
Third: Obviously, the other big influence on this chapter (outside the original novel) was a similar scene in the PJ film. The little bit where Gandalf reveals the lore behind Bullroarer took monologue is the only dialogue I’ve directly lifted from that scene. ;3
Fourth: some of you may have caught that I used a quote describing Frodo’s wanderlust in the Fellowship of the Ring to describe Bilbo. The bit describing "the maps that only show white spaces beyond their borders" is also why I emphasized Bilbo’s canonical nerdiness around  maps in earlier chapters (chapter 5 especially, but also in Chapter 6, Chapter 7, and a blink-and-you-miss-it moment in chapter 14.)
Fifth: one of my favorite things in the original book are all the scenes where Gandalf does fun Whimsical things with smoke/smoke rings. In the book he usually makes them change color or race around; in my comic he usually makes them turn into butterflies (he also does this in chapters 3 and 11.) you may have noticed that Butterfly Symbolism is a big thing in this comic.  But yeah, in another callback: Gandalf finally had time to blow smoke-rings with Bilbo, which he said he 'had no time for' in Chapter 2!
Thanks again for reading! I tentatively plan for the next chapter to arrive on November 13th.

Concubine Walkthrough - By BongBong (9.5/10)
Tumblr media
What if it was all a dream, and that was ok? An entire world dedicated to one love. There is so much darkness in this story. So many messed up questions. AI. Gender identity. Good people dying of illness. Innocent people dying by poison. Giving up on life. Giving away your life for someone else. Every bad thing ever happens, but this is such a happy story. Happiness feels more real when you earn it, after all.
I'm not going to crack any jokes for this one. This particular webtoon has won several prestigious awards. It was written and drawn with passion and talent, and it also happens to be an epic obsessive love story.
It's about a girl who falls into a dating game. A loser. A girl who lost her dad. Her future. Her chance to go to college. She tried to jump out of a window one day, and a friend with a crush on her saved her. Another friend offered her a chance. A life in a virtual world.
She takes it.
Tumblr media
She is reborn beautiful. The Emperor of the fake world loves her. Worships her. She was placed in the body of an awful villainess, but she's so wonderful that the Emperor immediately notices she is a new soul.
Try to remember.
The Emperor is an AI being. Yona, the player, came in with two friends to forget.
Tumblr media
Yona falls in love for real. Yona shows "Sunshine" all of the games quests and tips. The Emperor doesn't really exist. She basically creates him. She names him.
Her reality causes madness in him.
Tumblr media
Yona is naive at first. Maybe there is a way to bring Sunshine with her....but there isn't.
Pain and war and lies and betrayal bursts out of her naive fantasy.
Tumblr media
The game repeats 103 times.
The Emperor begins to think he is a toy, and Yona is only capable of loving the male player who saved her.
The world ends in fire.
Tumblr media
Doha, another player, does love her.
Doha can be what the Emperor can NEVER be. Sunshine just can't go to the real world, but Doha can log off....the game gets corrupted.
Nobody can log off now.
Memory loss. More obsession. Confusion. Yona forgets details about her real life. Time keeps going backwards. Poor Sunshine is powerless to save his true love, who can no longer remember why she wanted to forget in the first place.
Tumblr media
He uses the secret admin room to destroy everything. Everything. Yona and her game friends are trapped. Scientists on the outside are saving them, or trying to. Sunshine decides to make Yona hate him. Then he will use the admin room to delete every trace of himself, so no one but Yona will ever know he existed. That way Yona can be his forever, in a twisted way.
Tumblr media
It's not real. It shouldn't matter, but that's not how people work. The AI humans in the game adapt. Grow. Change. Obsess. The sweet ones that die get loving funerals.
They exist.
Yona does something selfless.
Tumblr media
The Emperor does not succeed.
Tumblr media
Yona gives her body to Ranhee. The evil original concubine who was just a miserable puppet. She gives that pitiful, but interesting, character a new reality. She stays behind, in the game with Sunshine. He might be the Emperor, but to her he's Sunshine first.
Doha wakes up, and the game is modified one last time. A time acceleration button is pressed, and the world AI simulation doesn't end until the end. The heat death of that universe. The quantum computer that made the game is destroyed, but in that time Yona lived her whole life. The game was allowed to grow and become a real world. In that second a new humanity lived their lives fully.
Yona was truly happy in that blink of an eye.

Overall story summary: you reincarnated into one of your favorite novel-turned-webtoons. However, you didn't want to become the female lead's sister-in-law...
Word count: 4542k
===
“The Way to Protect the Female Lead’s Older Brother,” also known as “ROXANA” was a rather dark novel that was adapted into a webtoon. And as luck would have it, the webtoon wasn’t finished, and you don’t remember all the details of the fan translated web novel you found online.
Now, why would that be a problem? Simple:
You reincarnated into it. Not as a main character, or even a servant to one of the families. You weren’t a child of Lant’s or one of his many wives. You weren’t a friend to one of his children, either. Instead, it was worse than most of what was listed.
Whatever God you managed to piss off had a silly little, petty revenge plan that was straight out of a third-rate horror novel with teenage girls fawning over it. And truthfully, if written right, the non-existent novel would have been a banger – but no, instead it was anything but. Or maybe you only really think that because of your position in this world, where your birth was simple, but painful for your mother, and you were lucky enough to be born into a family that loved and cared for and about you.
It was a noble family, to boot. Wealthy enough to live a comfortable life. Two siblings – an older sister who was already married at the age of thirty with a child on the way. The other was a 12-year-old boy who made it his life mission to be the most annoying little piece of shit on earth.
But as you lay on your back, hands holding your nightgown in place, all you could think about was how small Dion Argece makes you feel. The wedding ceremony just finished up hours ago, and here you are, back pressed against silk sheets as your now-husband hovers over you.
(Name) Argece.
What a horrible name and cruel faith.
Inky black hair that falls into his carmine red eyes that held indifference. His wedding-tux was still on, even the outer jacket with the silly lone rose in his pocket. Oh, what a shame – to be married to such a handsome man only for him to be obsessed with his sister and emotionally unavailable.
God despises you.
“Close your eyes if you’re uncomfortable.”
He unbuttons his outer jacket, sliding it off his shoulders and tosses it to the side. You should close your eyes, you think, because his face was nothing but stone. Not even a condescending grin. He doesn’t comfort you, either – at least not in the typical sense.
“Keep still,” his gloved hands grab your thighs and you let him open them, creating space for him to get closer. You want to push him away and run. But what good would that do? Why couldn’t the man just slice something and claim that the blood on the sheets was from your first night?
“I’m scared.” You speak without thinking, becoming stiff as his hands traveled from your outer thigh to the inner, creeping underneath your nightgown. His gloves feel cold and uncomfortable, touch borderline rough. “I – I need a moment. Please?”
He tilts his head, giving it thought. After a moment he removes himself, but annoyance radiates off him. Your heart beats faster as the second’s pass. You remain on your back. The ceiling is painted white, no decorations and the room was bare saved for a dresser, closet, mirror and a random chair by the window.
You will be sleeping in here, from now on.
“Can’t do it? Then don’t.” he’s annoyed, surely, otherwise he wouldn’t look at you like you were an insect. What a wonderful way to start the newlywed life. But it’s not that easy to walk away, and while it sounds like he’s giving you a say-so, he isn’t; if you don’t consummate your marriage tonight, then…
“… I’m sorry. It’s my first time and I heard there would be pain.” You shouldn’t have to explain yourself. But Dion wasn’t exactly known for his… compassion. Or basic human emotions, either.
If this was someone else, would you be able to do it? Where did everything go wrong? This didn’t happen in the novel; Dion didn’t get married. There wasn’t a grand wedding with the Five Ruling Families in attendance. Nor was there a steamy scene with this man throughout the novel, not even in the side stories.
How did you end up here?
“Then relax.” If you weren’t scared of losing your life you would have run him over. It affects everything! Then again, it wouldn’t matter to him – this is a duty. Not something he wanted, you’re sure, and even if he did it would only have his best interests in mind.
“… I’m ready.” You don’t answer him, because it would only lead to a one-sided argument. Even a wall listens better. Despite your wishes, Dion does the same as last – settles in-between your legs, and this time, you close your eyes.
“Good. Try to relax or it won’t fit.” Your cheeks burn at that, mind already picturing how it would look. Many men say things like that, even in your old world. It’s just a thing they said, like with many things. It doesn’t really mean anything, because if it did then…
His gloves are still on, cold and grip tight on your thighs. You were hoping he would be gentler. But as his hands travel up and up until they’re pulling at the edges of your underwear to slide them down, you realize he won’t.
There’s no slickness down there, your underwear dry and vagina even drier. You peek through your eyelashes, watching as he inspects the article of clothing. He tosses it a few seconds later.
“I’m only going to ask once – would you rather keep your clothes on or off?” It seems that with every second reality just hits harder and harder. This was going to happen. Nothing could stop it. And if hypothetically, if he were to stop this, what then?
Even if he sliced an arm to fake the night, what about later? A baby, Lant wants Dion to have a child. No. You couldn’t do that to a child, especially yours.
“On. Please.” You expect him to just shove in a finger or two, watching as your body jerks in pain. Instead, he lifts your hips until your bottom was off the bed and flips the flimsy skirt up. And then there’s a glob of something wet and gooey, legs twitching as it lands on your bare cunt.
“D – did you just… spit?” steading yourself on your arms, you look on in disbelief as your husband just spat on your pussy. A string of saliva hangs from his tongue.
Instead of answering you, much less look at you, his thumb comes into play and spreads his saliva over the surface of your cunt. It’s only when his thumb swipes over your clit do you let out a shaky breath.
Maybe he was feeling generous or maybe he was curious. Dion decided to rub the twitching nub over and over until your legs twitch and cunt clenched around nothing. The glove made it uncomfortable, but even so, you just tried your best to focus on the pleasure. You weren’t sure if he would give you pleasure like this again.
“You’re enjoying this,” he retreats his hand leaving your twitching and needy clit lonely.
A pathetic whimper escapes as you watch your husband take his glove off with his teeth. This man is everything you fear and more, a character that you should have never met. Yet the sight of him lowering his head to lick a long stride against your slit has your legs shaking.
His tongue is warm and slimy, causing your hands to clench the sheets as your head falls back. Another lick and another until it’s flicking your clit back and forth, sending warmth throughout your body. However, despite the pleasure he’s giving you, his grip is still tight, almost painful on your hips.
Your heartbeat doesn’t slow down as he continues. Your fear barely dies down in your chest, even as the tip of his tongue teases your entrance. You shut your eyes tight, a breathless gasp leaving your lips as he thrusts his tongue into your cunt.
“It feels – “a pause as you catch your breath, “weird, it feels really weird and – “
Dion repeats the action until you’re a trembling mess, sensitive from your mental state and the current oral sex you’re receiving. It’s hard to focus on either one, your mind constantly reminding you that you’re in a novel, about to fuck a man who’s jaded and possibly has a thing for his sister –
“Ah… wait, that’s a lot…” he decides to go further, bringing his thumb back and rubs loose circles into your clit. He’s still eating you out, but not like a man starved like you read in erotic novels.
Even so, your husband keeps at it. If it was a good or bad thing was up for debate – on one hand, while it does feel good, everything is moving too fast, your pleas for slowing down falling on deaf ears. It really is a lot, tongue fucking you while those loose circles on your clit become tighter, rougher. Should you just lay back and take what he gives?
Your mother would probably say so. Your sister would just pat your head and smile like it was expected. Normal. Take what he gives, especially if it benefits you in any way.
“…?” your eyes open at his tongue leaving your cunt with a saliva trail, his eyes glued to your twitching sex. His thumb also stops rubbing circles, instead going back to grip your hip as your back starts to become sore. Your ass is still off the bed and if he keeps you hosted up like this, then you really will snap in half.
But then he locks eyes with you.
“I thought you were scared.” Dion doesn’t let you respond, either because he doesn’t care or because it would ruin the ‘mood.’ He latches his mouth to your poor, abused nub instead. And sucks.
“H-hey!” one hand supporting you while the other grabs at his hair, you didn’t expect him to throw your legs over his shoulders. “That’s enough, really, no need to – ugh…” his mouth was warm and soft, but it sends your nerves on fire.
Good. Bad. Good. Bad.
Good, bad, does it matter anymore?
He sucks harder and your fingers tug harshly at his hair. You kick your legs but are unable to tell if it’s from pleasure or the flight or fight response he’s causing you. He doesn’t budge, doesn’t bat an eye, making it his life mission to suck you dry.
“Ah – wait, Dion – “
It’s at your whine of his name does he finally, finally stop, a ‘pop’ when he detaches his mouth from your sensitive and bullied clit. Your husband decides to lick one last long stripe from your entrance to your clit, all the while making eye contact with you. Your chest heaves as your mind settles, arousal overthrowing your thoughts.
“What is it?” Monotone, his voice is monotone and he’s not even out of breath. Your mother lied, there’s not even a hint of pink across those cheeks. It’s fine, though – no, it’s not, it’s baffling how steady he seems when your back is about to break, and you can’t even breathe.
Your eyes travel from his to his hair, where your hand is still grasping the strands. Mind still catching up to your body, you let go and draw your hand back, covering your eyes with it. Your entire body is shaky and legs sore. You’re not used to this position.
“It – it’s enough.” Your husband lets you pull your legs back, feet pressing against his broad shoulders as you bring them back down. The relief is almost immediate, a pleasurable and relief-filled sigh leaving your chest. You allow yourself to rest for a bit, your sensitive cunt and sore legs screaming for it.
“… O – okay, I think, I think that’s fine. Excuse me…” gently, you pull one leg up until your foot is flat against the bed. With a shudder, you trace your entrance timidly with two fingers, getting used to the touch. You’re not sure of how big he was, but you’ll use three fingers just in case.
You gape like a fish when his hand reaches out, grabbing yours roughly. You didn’t even notice the dip in the mattress as Dion got closer on his knees, face inches away from yours. Oh God, now what –
“What are you doing?” clearly annoyed, Dion doesn’t let you look away – not that you were going to – free hand grabbing your face, pointer finger and thumb on each cheek. It’s barely loose enough to leave no bruises. It hurts regardless.
“I – I was… prepping…” part of you wants to pretend that this man doesn’t know how to comfortably prepare you for pentation with his… but you know better. Because an inexperienced man wouldn’t know how to do things with his tongue like that, or where the clit was because –
“Are you still scared?” The hand that was holding yours releases it, opting to sneak its way to your cunt. His fingers were larger than yours, nimbler as they stroke your labia minora. Are the shivers washing over you from nervousness or arousal?
“… I’m scared of the pain.” By instinct, you knew he meant more than scared of sex – if you feared him. Still.
It doesn’t need to be said.
“Scared of the pain?” His eyes glow in the moonlight, bright red with absolutely no emotion. “Why?” he doesn’t break eye contact as his fingers inch closer to your entrance, stroking the opening, making your legs jolt. What a horrible man.
You remind yourself that this man only felt fear as a child – and even then, it probably wasn’t for very long. Nothing lasts for long, in this estate.
“Because I hate it.” You don’t break eye contact either, breathing in when one finger slowly sinks in, your walls now stretching uncomfortably. It’s not as painful as you thought it would be, your wetness mixed with his saliva making it easier. Your nails are about to rip holes in the silk sheets.
Like a curious animal, he tilts his head, curling his finger. It doesn’t feel good, it hurts, but you endure it even when you wince. Dion decides it would be a good idea to spread your legs a bit further, and like a bug, crawls between them even more. You hiccup when he adds a second finger.
They’re bigger than yours, they reach deeper. In your old world, did it feel like this too? You can’t remember.
“It’s going to hurt worse if you don’t let me finish this. Relax your legs before it hurts worse.” Pressure builds in your eyes, but you fight it off. “Save your tears for when it matters.”
You’re tired of him already.
He doesn’t move them, at first. It’s almost like he expects this, because as you adjust to something foreign inside you, he starts to rub at your clit, again. Softly this time, touch firm enough to feel but not hard enough to hurt. Or maybe you’re lying to yourself because you’re wincing, still.
When he starts to thrust them in and out, you force yourself to look at the ceiling, scared to see the expression on his face. You also don’t want to watch the show, scared it’ll already be bloody. Just a bit.
“It’s tight.” He states it like it’s the morning news. “And wet.” Your cheeks burn with both shame and embarrassment, shutting your eyes.
“… ugh…,” groaning, your hand reaches out to grab his wrist. “It hurts, a lot.” You sit up, back against the headboard, avoiding your husband’s gaze. Unfortunately, by doing this, your eyes land on your messy hole, light blood on his fingers as he pulls them out only to thrust them in again.
“It’s normal. The more you resist the worse it gets.” You give up, letting him do as he pleases, shutting your mouth.
The fingering still hurts as the minutes go by, but little by little the pressure eases down and when he arches his hand, he hits something soft and spongy. He’s rewarded the sight of your head banging against the headboard once, shoulder tense as you bite your bottom lip.
If only you could see that look in his eyes.
“Here?” He repeats the action, faster this time. You only nod your head, lips ajar, tongue swiping over them. Your hips have a mind of their own, raising as the heel of his hand rapidly smacks against your clit with his thrust of his hand.
You’re half there mentally and halfway in heaven, momently forgetting just who was here with you, who room this belonged to, and your entire situation to begin with. “Oh - wait, it’s a lot but – “
A third finger is added, and it starts to sting again. Another wince, another groan, but your arousal helps to keep the pain to minimum. All three fingers curl to hit that special spot that makes you see blacked out stars and pussy clench. All the while light blood coats his fingers, a sight he’s already used to due to his lifestyle.
It’s only when he pulls his hand away completely do you return from the skies, a small layer of sweet coating your forehead. Your hands are shaky as you look at him, only to be drowned back into reality when you’re met with those red, indifferent eyes that glow brighter than the moon.
“If you’re ready, lay on your back and spread your legs.” He undoes his pants while saying this, scooting back to give you some room.
With a heavy heart, you do so, laying on your back and spread your legs. You were fine just moments ago, so why is your heart leaping out of your throat rather than staying in your chest? Maybe it was because of the pleasure, or…
You’re scared, again.
You don’t look when something fat and heavy plops onto your pelvis. You don’t look when he brings you closer by your thighs. You don’t look as he rubs the head of his cock against your slick folds, catching on your clit.
“Relax or it won’t fit,” he reminds you before pushing the fat head in. At first, it’s a sting no bigger than an ant bite. But then another inch goes in, and you feel like a sword is cutting you straight up open, your legs tensing and hands grasping his forearms in a futile attempt to stop him.
Your nails dig into his sleeves, and you can feel the skin underneath. The tears build up as your face becomes hot, taking in deep breaths like it would soften the intruding body part.
“Big – it’s too big, it’s not going to fit – “
“… You look cute when you cry.” It’s sinister, teasing and everything that makes your stomach drop. His thumb wipes away your tears that’s already staining your skin. But he stops regardless, if only to shut you up if nothing else.
You think a few minutes pass but it’s hard to tell when he’s still inside, pulsing and you could feel every vein on his cock. It’s thick, it’s big and you don’t think you’re equipped to handle it, handle him. He’s everything that ruins your sense of self, that makes your dreams shatter and fear rot you from the inside out.
But he’s your husband…
But he’s your husband.
“Relax,” he inches in deeper, slower this time, but not letting you get a word in. Your nails dig deeper, and if it weren’t for his shirt, you would have drawn blood. Another inch, another gasp that leaves you breathless, grasping for anything that could keep you grounded. The only thing you could grab was him, however.
“Dion, Dion, you’re going to break me, I can’t – I can’t – “
“You can. You have to.” Was his voice raspy, just now? If so, it worries you, because you just remembered one very important detail – Dion Argece was, if nothing else, a sadist. Be it from his childhood trauma, or if he would be like this regardless of, he loved seeing Roxana cried.
It never occurred to you that he would love seeing you cry, too.
How deep was he? It feels you’re being speared open, his cock bullying its way into your virgin hole. You weren’t a virgin in your last life, but it didn’t hurt like this. It had hurt, felt like you were being ripped, but not enough to make you cry and breathless.
You think you can feel blood trickling down your ass crack. “Please tell me you’re almost there, please…” sniffling, you look up at your husband, the man taking your virginity in the name of ‘marriage.’ A mirror shatters in the back of your mind.
There was a flush across his cheeks. Pupils blown wide and a small grin on his lips. He was enjoying this. Your pain, your tears and perhaps even your fear – he was enjoying this.
It would have been better if he didn’t feel anything, you think. Just a stone statue that was performing its task. But even monsters had emotions, you guess.
“I’m not. Just endure it for a bit longer – I’ll stop once I’m at the hilt.” Was he a liar in the novel? You think he was, otherwise, the overtaking of the Argece family wouldn’t have happened. Lant wouldn't be dead. But things haven’t followed the novel to a T – this was proof enough.
“You’ll stop? Like, completely? You – you took my virginity, so that should be enough. Right?”
You hate it when he keeps wiping your tears away. Or when he slides in even more, your blood coating his stupid dick. You hate it when he brings one hand to toy with your clit, granting you pleasure that was just overthrown by the smothering pain traveling up to your belly.
He doesn’t answer. And that was enough for you to rake your nails down the back of neck, drawing blood in return. He’s making you bleed, so it was only fair if you could too, right?
Deeper and deeper until his balls rest against your bottom and pelvic meeting yours. Surprisingly, your husband keeps his word, letting you adjust to the new feeling. It feels heavy. It feels like a heartbeat, like a rod that was stuck. It felt awful.
How long did it take you to get used to it, in the past? No longer than fifteen minutes max, right? No, shorter than that. Then again, it didn’t hurt this much, but that partner was more loving, more caring, gentler –
“Who are you thinking about?”
The question breaks you out of your daze. You blink, once, before you question him back. He only glares in response.
Panic fills you when he pulls out, pain still there, blood still trickling down. “Wait, you’re – “
“I’m what?” he pulls out until only the head remained inside. You try your best to ignore the bruising grip he has on your hips. You’re going to be sore tomorrow. If you survive this, anyway.
God, if you’re listening, please let this night end peacefully.
“B-big. It’s going to hurt, please don’t…” dragging your hands down from his neck to his chest, your fingers dig into his shirt.
“Hm. A shame, really; you still must give birth, eventually. It’s better to get used to it now than later.” Your mind doesn’t catch up with your body, legs tensing when he slides oh so carefully back in, like he didn’t just push your worries aside like nothing. “Relax.”
“Dion,” hiccupping, you brace yourself, head nuzzling into his chest as your hold on his shirt tightens. When he pulls back out, you could feel every detail, every vein trail, his grith truly opening you. He graces you a mercy, going at a languid pace, minimizing the pain. His thumb never stopped rubbing your clit, either.
It goes like that, for a good while. Slow and steady, your hushed sobs dying on your lips, your husband careful with his thrusts, but not his grip. It was almost comforting, in a way. But you were still scared of him, and of what will happen after this.
“… I have a proposition.”
His hips stop and your ears perk up.
“You want me to stop, correct?” Dion pulls back until he’s on his heels, his cock dragging along your walls. You wince before breathing out. He doesn’t even try to hide the sadistic look in his eye as he sees the dried tear streaks on your cheeks. He almost grins in glee.
“Y-yes…” You don’t let go of his shirt. “Why…?” there’s hope inside you, but dread starts to rot it away.
“Jerk it.”
“…what?”
He was different from the novel. Extremely so, because you doubt that Dion would suggest a thing, much less give you a choice in the matter. That Dion would have either ignored you and this night or take you as is, no mercy, no humanity granted if this took place at the beginning at the novel.
When he doesn’t repeat himself, you pull yourself up until you’re resting on your knees. The sight of blood both on his cock and the sheets make you gag and thankfully, he doesn’t comment on it. Hesitantly, you take him into your hands, fingers barely able to close around it.
It throbs in your hand.
Your blood is coating your hands now, too.
Only silence is between you, your hands working him. Your thumb swipes over his head, circling it before stroking his dick up and down. Your other hand plays with his balls, massaging them. You’re not sure how long it would take him to finish.
Your core throbs in pain, and you become worried over the thought of peeing. It would probably hurt.
You want to sleep.
Without giving it much thought, just like your husband, you spit on it, a glob of saliva falling onto the staff. It throbs harder. And when you look at him, tired eyes and drool still dripping down from your tongue, still jerking him off –
“…Ngh…”
It’s almost cute, the way sperm spurts out and makes a mess on your hands. The very small and fleeting look of embarrassment on his feature is almost enough to comfort you. But when there’s barely a sheen of sweat adoring his forehead, unlike you was still recovering, you’re reminded that your husband was different from you.
There are no kisses, no sweet nothings shared between lovers. No stroking your hair or comforting your trembling form as your legs shake. Or even an offer to warm a bath for you, the warm water soothing your body. There’s none of that.
Not even a smile.
“Welcome to the Argece family, wife.”
Instead, all that awaits you is a restless sleep on a bloodied mattress with a husband who left after cleaning himself up.
Which God despises you so much and why?

You know, it's always struck me as a little odd how little most webcomics actually attempt to adapt to their medium. There's basic strips, the old 2k era 4-square, the endless scroll of Webtoons, and a few weird experimental things like Homestuck, but most webcomics I run into tend to stubbornly stick to conventional portrait-oriented page layouts.
It's… readable, I guess, but that format doesn't seem to work very well for either desktop or mobile viewing. It wastes a lot of screen-space, and usually makes it impossible to actually view the full page without making the text too small to read.
Have you encountered any interesting webcomics that experiment with more landscape-oriented layouts? I'm kinda curious about how well that would work.
So, there's this dude Scott McCloud who wrote about comics in the 90s. His first book, Understanding Comics, is literally the book on comics, it's the one schools make kids read. This third book, Making Comics, is a pretty good practical advice guide I'd recommend, even if it's not his groundbreaking seminal work. In between those two books was one called Reinventing Comics
Tumblr media
Reinventing Comics, written in 1993, was basically a book of predictions about how this newfangled Interweb was going to revolutionize the art of comics creation. Like a lot of early-90s stuff "Wow the internet!" stuff, it has a lot of inaccurate predictions, and thus isn't super well remembered (though, unlike a lot of early-90s predictions of the internet, it at least vaguely resembled reality).
Anyway, one of the big things from that book was the idea of the "infinite canvas".
Tumblr media
Which was basically the idea that a comic didn't have to be constrained by the size of the screen because you could scroll it. And this was a big idea in early webcomics, you heard this phrase a lot. And you'd see infinite canvas techniques like "What if the characters are falling and the comic is really tall to sell that?"
Tumblr media
(Read Narbonic)
Which is basically the one and only example that actually took off, because it turns out that scrolling horizontally sucks and no one really wants to do it except as a one-of gimmick (as Homestuck does). The much bigger impact of the internet was that a webcomic could be infinitely long and still reasonably expect it's readership to have read it all, but I think McCloud missed that one. So while there were a bunch of "landscape" webcomics where you scrolled horizontally, none of them took off, and even the ones that were well received are long gone.
Tumblr media
Adams himself would make Zot!, which is a vertical scroll comic that had a bit of a gimmick with parallel story beats being literally parallel. I think he even did some branching paths, and experimented with comics that you could read in different directions or that looped back on themselves.
Tumblr media
But then Homestuck just did that better because, as I mentioned, infinite depth ended up being a lot more impactful than infinite width. It turns out that making a comic really wide calls a lot of attention to itself and makes the comic annoying to read. And it doesn't mean you can't do it (Homestuck did it!), but it does mean it can't be the gimmick you hang your comic up on unless you've got a really good reason for doing it.

This Week In BL - I’m pleased with what’s airing, but conflicted about what’s ended & getting started
Aug 2023 Wk 1
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying most.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Laws of Attraction (Sat iQIYI) 4 of 8 - Omg the way the bodyguard (handler?) looks at the rich kid. Gah. I see why @heretherebedork loves these 2. But I really hate him (not the handler, the kid). Fun fight scene. I love lawyer babygirl SO MUCH. HE WILL BE MY 2023 FAV CHARACTER. I’M CALLING IT. This ep, Srs? You’re killing me. Suits! Pussycat bows! And then... The Public Claiming!!!!! One of my favorite tropes! And openly flirting? Boys. I’m getting spoiled. Wait… is that…? NO SINGING. Ah well, Thai BL giveth and Thai BL taketh away.
Hidden Agenda that isn’t hidden (Sun GMMTV YouTube) ep 4 of 10 - I like the script for this. It feels like the conversations they have are very honest to a uni experience. It’s comfortable and breezy. I did not expect the kiss. Bit early in the arc. There is either going to be a lot of backend drama, or a long domestic honeymoon period. (Bet you can guess which one I vote for.)
Low Frequency (Sat iQIYI) ep 5 of 8 - It’s moving along in a Ghost Host kinda way (minus the killer chemistry). I’m not mad about it, I don’t think I'll remember it tho.
Be Mine Super Star (Mon Viki) ep 5 of 12 - My ambivalent relationship with this drama continues. Cohabitation trope. Punn is basically a huge puppy trying to spoil/cuddle/fuck his pretty kitty prince. It is what it is. Meanwhile, I just want more of Big Daddy & the Hot Doc. (Also the name of my burlesque show.) Why does Kevin have more chemistry with Ashi in a 1 min long scene than Punn has had… ever? Is this nascent bad boy effect or nascent 2nd lead syndrome I’m feeling? (Meanwhile Ben! Hi! Long time no see!)
Be My Favorite (Fri YouTube) ep 11 of 12 - Whatever. Trash(ish) watch here.
Dinosaur Love (Sun iQIYI) ep 6 of 8 eps - Aw pretty baby is unhappy his bf got injured. But also very blushing maiden. This is profoundly NOT GOOD.
Wedding Plan (Weds YT & iQIYI) ep 3 of 7 - I have decided that Lom’s theme song is BigBang’s Monster. Listen. You’ll see what I mean. Also BigBang = also very problematic but banging. What I’m saying is, I wanna punch Lom so bad, I went slightly bonkers. Water sports are addressed. A trash watch is happening!
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Jun & Jun (Korea Thurs Viki) 3 of 8 - How DARE they make me love this show so much? I feel personally attacked. The smell thing! Gah. The way they automatically go informal in private. The flirting. The language. The suits, the EVERYTHING. It’s embarrassing how much I rewatch the final bits of each ep.
Stay By My Side (Taiwan Fri Gaga) 6 of 10 eps - I adore this ridiculous show. (I just realized that the actor playing Jiang Chi played Ray’s evil 2-timing bf in About Youth). Baby boy is quite clueless. Sweet dreams tho. I love them both so much. The washing his jersey scene was so fucking cute. Couple’s numbers, couple’s keychains, bridal towel, kisses. Thank you Taiwan for NOT activating blushing maiden. However, confident gay/confused bisexual is a go. And we got us some justifiable angst. Sigh. I’m so happy.
Sing My Crush AKA Follow The Wind (Korea Weds iQIYI) 1-2 of 8 eps - supposed to have released in the first half of 2022 this is a adaption of Myung’s webtoon, from the director of My Sweet Dear, and Love Tractor’s production house, basically Korea does About Youth. It’s sweet (the singing bits are easy to skip) and very much a story of young first love but less stiff than KBL’s usual high school fare (kinda Taiwan feeling). I like it but that very imprecision in production makes me concerned for an HEA, especially with such a low MDL rating.
Tokyo in April is... AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 8fin  - Rough final episode, but it does end happily. Fortunately, I had some warning for my personal triggers, but this is Japan and they did go dark. Full review below.
Minato's Laundromat Season 2 AKA Minato Shouji Coin Laundry Season 2 (Japan Thu Gaga) 5 of 12 eps - Shin is so cute and proud and boldly out. I love him. Movement in the relationship with both couples, even if it’s movement into arguments and misunderstanding. I suppose we got 12 eps they need to do... something.
Stay Still (Hong Kong Tues YouTube) 1 of 5 eps - It’s confusing. And… not good? Some flashbacks some present day?
It’s airing but ...
Stay With Me ... NO I WILL NOT! And you can’t make me.
Tumblr media
Review: Tokyo in April is... AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa
I had to chew on this for a while but here’s where I ended up.
Two young men with a shared tragic past reunite and fall in love all over again, but the past will not stop hunting them. Based on a manga, this office set reunion romance is GREAT… damn it. It’s Japan in full on soft focus which means it gets emo, abusive, and chewy. These two characters are giving parts of their souls away in a desperate attempt to shape themselves to the expectations they have of each other.
Japan gave us the Bed Friends that Thailand could never even imagine. But here’s the thing: I don’t enjoy my BL this heavy and cutting. I know that for The 8th Sense crowd this is peak BL and I can’t argue with the fact that the romantic devotion, domesticity, script, and acting IS all on point. It’s just not my personal preference for that point to be so damn sharp. I appreciate that this being 2023 I have the luxury of consistent quality (especially from Japan) and thus the ability to say…
I acknowledge that this SHOULD get a 9/10 but I can’t emotionally go higher than 8/10
RECOMMENDED BUT KNOW WHAT KIND OF BL THIS IS AND TRIGGER WARNINGS LIKE CRAZY
Japan = sticking to its lanes like their BL is on rails.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Starting:
8/11 Love Class Season 2 (Korea Fri Viki) 10 eps
8/12 My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho (Japan Sat Gaga) 8 eps
Tumblr media
Still Coming August 2023
8/19 Love in Translation (Thai Sat One31) ? eps - Two strangers start working in a cafe together.
8/19 I Feel You Linger in the Air (Thai Sat Gaga) 12 eps - The time travel historical romance many of us have been waiting for.
8/20 My Universe series (Thai Sun iQIYI) 24 episodes - This is sampler pack BL, 12 pairs, each pair gets 2 eps, not sure on the order they’ll drop. Known couples include EarthBank from Destiny Seeker and KaownahTurbo from Love Stage!!!, mostly fresh faces otherwise. Jane to direct several.
8/22 Kisseki: Dear to Me formerly known as Miracle (Taiwan Tues ????) 13 eps - From screenwriter Lin Pei Yu (We Best Love, H3: Trapped) features a student doctor forced to take care of a gangster. I love the premise and like the writer, Viki or Gaga will get this one.
8/24 Man Suang (Thailand movie, domestic cinema release) - historical drama about Thai burlesque with KP’s MileApo. Tong is in this one too?
8/? Why R U? (Korean remake) is supposed to be out this month, filming started in sept 22. I find everything about this hilarious. I mean if Korea remakes it, we lose all the sexy and then... would we have a story at all? No we would not. Not even for six short eps. It’d be like one of those mesh shopping bags.
Oh yeah, Only Friends is coming.
2023 forthcoming BL master post (see comments, some are inaccurate, NOT KEPT UPDATED)
THIS WEEK’S BEST MOMENTS
Tumblr media
Hidden Agenda. I love them.
Tumblr media
Public claiming with the waist grab maneuver! A true hero.
Tumblr media
But I think we can all agree that THIS is the hero all love triangles deserve. (both Laws)

I DODNT MEAN TO SEND THAT EARLY. 😭 SORRY.
I wanted to ask how you thought the orv webtoon compared to the novel? Just curious because I've only read like a quarter of the novel and haven't tried out the webtoon
Tumblr media
really really funny cutoff ask there
anyway im deeply torn by the orv webtoon because on paper it's a very True adaptation to the source material, and a lot more accessible and comprehensible to a lot people than the really rough english tl of the webnovel is. but i don't like anything about it. for starters i don't think the Truest adaptation of a thing is necessarily the best one. i also hate the art, and for a comic thats a pretty big point against it. everyone is a paper-white stick figure, i find the character designs fundamentally unappealing, and the entire comic is often really weirdly gray and muddy in a way i dont think is necessary at all. it looks like every other isekai webtoon on the market.
WHICH. is really fun on a meta level. orv Appearing to be a generic rpglit power fantasy and then closing the jaws of its trap on unsuspecting readers is really good. but man this story has some insane potential for visuals that i know itll never reach due to this lameass art
i also think that fundamentally, the fact that there is no way to have a comic be in First Person undercuts a lot of what orv is trying to do. and not only that but iirc they actively cut a lot of kim dokja's internal narration that's pretty critical to characterizing him. he really does come off a lot more like that cliched overpowered MC in the webtoon, IMO. at least what i've read of it which is not a huge amount because. as stated. i don't like it
basically in order for orv to hit you need to become intimately acquainted with but still fundamentally alienated from Kim Dokja's Twisted Mind for orv to land right and i don't think it's possible to really accomplish that outside of a written work. orv is on a meta-level designed to be a novel and making it into something that isn't a novel means you're not reading orv anymore. but also i want as many people to read it as possible and beggars cant really be choosers. so yeah. its complicated.

Jazz for two
I'm so glad we got to watch this in a week because I don't think I could handle the weekly viewing. What a mess.
Let me start by saying that I read the source material and although that doesn't help at all, it's not why this show doesn't work for me. These are my immediate thoughts after watching. There will be webtoon spoilers.
Two things really bothered me about this adaptation.
First thing was the character of Seohon. This boy has absolutely no agency here and is submissive to every other character. The second is TaeJoon's (TaeYi's brother) storyline.
I could argue that these two things are connected by way of Seheon father. So here is the family background in the original.
-Seheon lives with his mother and not his father. In fact his father abandoned the family and that's why in the WT he can't play piano at home because his father was a piano player and mom doesn't want to be reminded of him. -Seoheon only sees his father occasionally at his office, he's a piano teacher, where he gets to play. -The father was TaeJoon's teacher and they got involved. He cheated on his wife with him. He was not homophobic. He left the family to be with TaeJoon. I'm not gonna go into why they broke up and TaeYi's brother commited suicide because there's a lot more characters that influenced this. Suffice it to say that in the end he was caught by someone else and basically left him.
So why they added the bully father is beyond me but I guess it makes the fact that Seoheon is so submissive more plausible. I can understand why they wouldn't want the dad and the brother story line here. But I don't get why they thought that adding the homophobic brother was a better choice.
I'm gonna echo @lurkingshan feeling here regarding episode 7. That episode made absolutely no sense whatsoever. None of it is credible. They both do a 180 in a matter of minutes. And because of the way they wrote Seheon here, it just makes him look stupid. I'm not gonna compare with the original because it really doesn't matter. It's just bad writing here.
If the main couple is rushed, don't even get me started on the second one. It's just not believable. They removed so much from their story that it just looks like Do Yoon has to be out of his mind to actually fall for this guy. And yes, the original is also a bully/victim romance, if anything he's even more violent, specially toward Seheon, so I'm not saying it's a good couple either way. But at least in the original Jun-Ha is multi dimensional and you can actually empathize with him in moments. Although I wasn't a fan of them in either media. And also this romance takes a while to actually happen so it's definitely easier to buy.
This story is full of traumatized and flawed characters. And I knew from the start that it would be hard to adapt into 8 episodes of 30 minutes. To do that they'd have to cut a lot and honestly I'm still in disbelief about what they chose to keep. All the character are so superficial so none of it lands for me. There's no emotional connection for me to grab on to. It's not enough to give a character a traumatic past. That alone does not a fully fleshed out character make.
Nothing about this story rings true for me and this is not a defense of the WT because that also is not perfect. It's way too long and there's too much shagging filler but I really liked the characters in it. They were much more complex and it all read much more believable. There's also a couple more characters that are pretty important in bringing the whole story together.
There's obviously a lot more things wrong with this but this is already long.
[If anyone else read the original and I made a mistake here please let know. I don't think I did but I've read it a while ago and didn't really wanna go back after watching it]

BPP, what do you think will happen to the fandom now that BTS has enlisted? Do you think things will get better or worse from here for the implosion. Me myself I’m not sure what I’m going to do. What else is there for me to do?
***
I think people will do one of three things people usually do when a group they stan enlists:
1. Step back from k-pop entirely. I think of this group of people as the stan ‘purists’. The reality is that for anybody active in fan spaces (basically anybody who has a fan account), k-pop (or that group specifically) is something that takes up space in their lives. The Stan purists generally step away from k-pop to find something unrelated to K-pop to serve as the ‘filler hobby’ for their group. The only successful ‘purist’ transition I’ve seen is someone who used cooking classes -> making restaurant reviews as her filler hobby for k-pop, and now does both now that her group is back together.
2. Migrate to another (or several other) group(s). This is where the majority of ARMYs will self-sort into I think and it’s been happening in noticeable volumes since mid-2021. Someone asked me last week what a group like ENHYPEN needs to take off and I gave an answer that picked out key elements but the thing I deliberately didn’t mention cause… well, is that any group that sees a rapid rise will have a good chunk of ARMYs in their fanbase. That’s the unspoken truth that’s behind the uptake of groups like Stray Kids and Ateez, specifically. Going by my guess, I’d say at least half of Stray Kids’ fandom is either multi-ARMYs or ex-ARMYs and that’s the same story with ATEEZ, TXT, and NewJeans. ENHYPEN, by contrast, hasn’t seen a lot of transfer from ARMYs to their fandom compared to the other mentioned groups. I think there’s a few reasons for that but I also don’t mind it too much seeing as it might have something to do with how much I enjoy myself in Engene spaces lol, but I do think the ‘success’ of a group like ENHYPEN could be limited by that point, relative to the other groups who do have bigger amounts of ARMYs in their fandoms. Anyway for this second point, people can move to other groups while still stanning BTS, they’ll just become multis.
3. Stay committed only to BTS. This is where a lot of people will aim to be but life will happen. Lol. That said, I do not doubt for one second that BigHit intends to keep up the milking, so we’ll be kept very occupied for much of 2024 and 2025. The boys have enlisted in such a way that the upcoming Festa celebrations will coincide with the release of at least one member from military service. We’ll have reality shows, albums, variety content, documentaries, soundtracks, maybe more games and webtoons, a tv-show adaptation… lots of ways to spend money and be entertained. People committed to keeping BTS’s records and making new ones will have their hands very busy because, every. Single. Group. and agency is counting down the clock with ARMYs for when BTS comes back. And they intend to exploit as much of this vacuum to realize massive success for their groups, as is possible. Plus given point #2, they’ll actually have the means (ARMYs) to achieve those targets. Lol. The infighting within the fandom post-implosion will be very nasty. It’s going to be a fun time.
All three options apply to everyone in the fandom: ARMYs, solo stans, shippers, antis, etc. That’s what I think will happen now that BTS has enlisted.
Personally, I intend to continue doing what I’ve been doing, which is stan BTS and support the groups I like however I feel like.

Sweet Home season 2 is confusing as hell. I searched to see if I’m the only lost after episode 3. I’m in fact, not alone. That’s not a good thing.
The things I’ve read about season 2 is basically “this is a stepping stone to head into season 3”. That the seasons were filmed back to back.
Netflix, my dude, with all due respect, what the actual fuck? If this does have their fingerprints all over it, I’m fearful for other shows that were excellent the first season.
For the sake of my own sanity, I’m gonna read the webtoon. I want to see if any of season 2 is canon.
Hell, I didn’t even think we’d get a second season, so I was beyond thrilled that I was wrong. Now I’m not sure if it’s worth it.
They make some of the characters annoying as hell, spotlight characters I didn’t like in s1 with “they grew in the timeskip” exposition, killed off the characters I loved, and didn’t focus on the main protagonist.
So the big question is: did the season veer too far off from the source material?
This is going to make or break the show for me. I choose to either read the original or watch the movies/shows. I don’t do both most times because I’d just feel disappointed.
I’m looking at you, Disney for failing to adapt A Wrinkle in Time multiple times.

Hi! I feel like I’ve seen you post a bit about lout of the count’s family. Would you recommend it, and if so where to get it?
must an isekai webnovel be 'good'? is it not enough to read the increasingly elaborate lore around a villain-coded man surrounded by his many adopted children saying "just as planned" and flinging money at all his problems, most of which are self-inflicted because he can't seem to stop hurting himself? i have a type, it's fine.
Tumblr media
the webnovel is over 800 chapters so far. there's slow burn and then there's waiting until chapter 269 or whatever to drop in a single word that has the potential to recontextualize the whole thing but then it just sits there unaddressed for another fifty chapters. it is maximum isekai. i've been reading fan translations on EAP because that's literally your only option unless you wanna struggle through google translate+ridibooks (why would you do this to yourself). every fan translation calls it Trash of the Count's Family but the official one used Lout and leaves off "the" for some reason.
the official webtoon adaptation is on tappytoon. it's also on some other webtoon platforms but the rest of them suck worse than tappytoon does. you could probably pirate but all the third-party sites i found with the comic for free were fan translations that i didn't like as much. anyway it's got more free pages than usual until the 20th so you can check it out and try some of the read-free-manga-internet-dot-online sites and see if they're comparable for you.
anyway i suggest sticking with the comic since that's what has the fanservice and also Any Editing Whatsoever. then you can probably decide from there if you want to know what happens badly enough to read A Comical Amount Of Isekai Webnovel.

im going to start reading orv. i don't know a thing about it but I feel like I should seek out some kind of advice... 😳
you've come to the correct autistic tumblr user!
my first bit of advice is that orv IS a very long novel (ending at around 1.1 million words.) that can understandably be a little intimidating for a lot of people, so i often recommend the webtoon as an easier alternative. it's lacking quite a bit of nuance and has issues characterizing both kim dokja and yoo joonghyuk, but it's a pretty decent adaptation and can work as a good starting point to familiarize someone with the story.
if you're someone who doesn't mind reading a lot of words, that's great! my advice if you're reading the novel, then, would be that you should pay a little more attention to the narration and characters than you might in another work. kim dokja's an unreliable narrator in quite interesting ways, but that can be easy to miss early on if you're not looking for it.
i would also really recommend looking up any korean mythology and history the novel brings up if you're not already familiar with it! the novel deals hugely in myth/history as a key part of its plot, and since it's a korean novel, that naturally means that a lot of the plot relevant mythology/history is also korean. you'll end up a little lost if you don't give at least a cursory google search whenever something unfamiliar comes up in the novel.
also, if you're the kind of person who does take weeks or months to finish a long novel (understandable) I would recommend keeping little notes on the plot or anything that sticks out to you as you read. this is INCREDIBLY optional, but it can be very useful to go back and refresh your memory on what's happening every once in a while! orv is written in such a way that seemingly minor details seeded throughout can end up becoming the thrust of an entire arc 100+ chapters after first being introduced, so it's fun to keep track of what gets brought up and how it evolves.
i'm still working on making a more specific trigger list, but it's important to note that a huge thematic element of the novel is suicide and suicidal ideation, so that's going to be frequently important in the overall work. it's also a novel set during an apocalypse, so death, violence, and (usually rather non-graphically described, though there are moments) gore are also frequently onscreen. a few characters are either victims of or threatened with sexual violence, there's a plot-relevant instance of offscreen pet death, and there is also a very blatantly transmisogynistic scene in one chapter. (link to post detailing the chapter it occurs in. thankfully it's pretty easily skippable.) i might have missed a few things, but those are the major ones.
here's the english translation of the novel and good luck reading! my inbox and dms are always open to hear people chat about orv :]

Dear Villainous Husband , the One You’re Obsessed with is Over There - By Menanic (8/10)
Tumblr media
Can the most miserable couple of all time be saved by an adaptation with nice art? Maybe. I hate the original novel this comic is based on. The ending isn't worth the trouble, but the webtoon version is more promising.
Angie and Ran.
I will be using their pet names, because yes, these two characters are a couple. Ran is a complete sociopath towards his wife until she manipulates him into keeping her alive. They are a match made in hell.
Tumblr media
Ran is supposed to fall obsessively in love with a religious, pure, gorgeous woman named Seraphina. Seraphina is supposed to kill him, and take his country, after he kills her knightly true love.
Ran is the villain.
Angie was supposed to die unloved. Ran was supposed to kill her. When he chose to kidnap the lovely Serephina his legal wife was...ahem...in the way.
Tumblr media
Ran killed his own father. He killed his siblings. He was supposed to do it. He leads an evil country. One obsessed with war and power. Even the maids love to fight. It's a military nation to the core. Angie really didn't fit in next to Ran, in the first timeline. She was a weak and whiny woman, who couldn't handle the pressure.
Tumblr media
Now Angie knows she was chosen at random. Ran threw a knife at a wall of bridal portraits. That was how she was chosen. She has no more illusions about love...
...
..
And she's a reincarnated Korean lady but I swear it doesn't matter and the story is still enjoyable.
Tumblr media
New Angie decides to entertain her husband. She doesn't seek his love. She doesn't want to tame him. She wants him to lust over Serephina. She plans to flee in winter, when that destined meeting happens. She believes Ran won't bother to hunt her down, when he is occupied by love.
Tumblr media
Her plan works too well.
She figures out that a Marquis and his mother are against her. Some people are upset because Ran married a foreign woman, instead of a good strong woman of war.
Angie figures them out, and she makes a gamble while she bows before her crazed husband.
Tumblr media
She proves herself.
She becomes the crazy, cruel wife he desires. Just to stay alive.
She proposes a human hunt.
She says she will train with a bow, and hunt the Marquis, after he tries to stain her honor. Coincidentally the Marquis wants the king to marry his sister...so he's gotta go. Angie really has no choice, but her will to kill is there under all that pink.
Tumblr media
She changes.
She starts to act spoiled around Ran.
He seeks her out for dates...and training.
He wants to watch her kill.
I think molding her into the perfect killer and Empress is kind of his fetish actually. In the original timeline he wanted to ruin Serephina.
He's happy now because Angie wants to be ruined. She has convinced him that she's willing to sacrifice herself to be a good ruler. He doesn't know her ultimate goal is running away.
He's impressed.
He likes her.
He stops choking her, and she no longer has to bow for him.
(Yes, this is a horror story.)
Tumblr media
Ran drugs her, to show his adoration.
He builds the perfect hunting ground, where she can practice with her bow.
The drug is a special type of magical steroid. It dulls empathy in the user, and it temporarily makes the body strong.
The Marquis dies in front of his mothers corpse.
Angie did not consent by the way, and she grapples with what she did while drugged for a long time.
But.
It gets her love.
When she kills her enemies she earns the respect she needed. The nobles love her now. They love blood.
Ran loves her too.
Tumblr media
He's so ready to have a partner like him.
A sweet villain, who is cruel to everyone else. He actually likes it when she's cute with him, as long as her cruel duties continue to be fulfilled.
She slowly becomes his perfect woman.
When Serephina does appear she doesn't matter.
Angie is the closest thing Ran has to a functional relationship. He doesn’t need a prisoner to obsess over. It kinda seems like he wants to work on his personality to make Angie comfortable too.
It's weird.
He's an actual crazy asshole, but the plot is not boring.
The human hunt???
Nuts. I didn’t even include all the details.

Question, I’m seeing a lot of bat fam content and I’m interested in the interactions between the characters, I have near zero knowledge about canon, where would you recommend I start? (Comics? Movies? Idk if it comes in other mediums, but if it does which? )
Thanks in advance <3
Ah, hello hello, welcome to the dumpster fire that is DC comics :D
I'll admit that I'm probably not the best person to answer this, since my DC knowledge is very Jason Todd-focused, but here's what I have:
Batman: Wayne Family Adventures on webtoon is pretty newcomer-friendly. It's great for knowing who's who and seeing the dynamic between batfam members. It's more lighthearted than main comics but still has emotional beats that hit hard. I think you'll enjoy this one if you're coming from fanart and fanfics.
Under the Red Hood (2010): This is a Jason blog, I can't not rec this one lol. It's an adapted animation movie about Red Hood's reintroduction. Very solid, though it does have some not-insignificant differences from the comics.
Personally I find animated shows and movies much easier to get into than following a comic run. I was introduced to DC through Teen Titans and Young Justice (not to be confused with the comic run with the same name), but those focus on the wider DC cast instead of just the Bats.
For bat-centric animation, Batman: The Animated Series has a good characterization for a compassionate Batman, and its follow-up The New Batman Adventures includes Nightwing, Batgirl, and Robin. (Note: the Robin in here is supposedly Tim Drake, but come one, that's really just Jason with Tim's name slapped on him.) These are part of the wider DC Animated Universe, check out other shows in there if you're interested in other heroes like the Justice League.
If you're feeling more adventurous and wanna go into comics canon, the only character I can speak for with any authority is Jason. Start with:
Batman: Under the Red Hood (also known as "Under the Hood" in earlier editions)
Red Hood: Lost Days
But! @fantastic-nonsense has an incredible comics reading guide for all batfam members. I know it can look pretty intimidating, so my advice is to just ctrl+F your favorite character and see if anything there interests you. The OP even has a convenient tl;dr at the end for each character lol. There's also a section near the top for 'whole batfam' comic recs.
Just a heads up though, the batfam's actual relationships in the comics are, ah, complicated and not always fluffy. (Look at me being civil and polite lmao.) So you might wanna manage expectations.
Tl;dr: Start with the WFA webtoon if you're not sure who the characters are yet.
Hope this helps! If anyone has starting recs for other characters, feel free to pitch in too.

Previous anon here:
Hmm agreed, it's not JUST her fault but it sucks that our current cultural landscape keeps falling into the same trap of trying to make something woke, feminist, progressive, what have you but winds up so much worse instead
It's the same issue with the disney remakes, failing so hard to update the story when its original incarnation was more feminist without even trying. For example: I know a lot of people love the 2015 remake of Cinderella, and I've seen people say it's the best live-action adaptation but I will NEVER forget that, while the movie hammers home the lesson "be kind, always" they had the nerve to insert a line that says something like: It's a good thing Cinderella's stepmother was cruel, because otherwise she never would've met the prince and like EXCUSE ME?!
I think MOST people would rather have a safe home-environment where you weren't bullied, demeaned, and forced to work over the vague possibility of a special someone coming to rescue me from this situation...
Anyway this was about lore olympus... XD
i think you have a really valid point! and it circles back to how rachel is just one of many people who insists on a flawed perception of something, thinking it's "better" because it's "modern"
like with rachel's lolita fetish or the gross racism within lore olympus, this really does speak to a wider issue - the fact that webtoons promotes the content and publishes it to such a wide audience, who is so often comprised of younger teens who don't yet realize why this is an issue. i can only imagine ancient greek women who adored the hymn of demeter, finding out that modern times vilifies her and glorifies persephone's kidnapping as some kind of romance. and there are ways to portray things in a modern setting, or to create romance in a story that is more or less devoid of it; the trick is, you need to know the originals to make a retelling. one of my favourite movies is disney's hercules, which is so far from the original lore of heracles it's pretty much an entirely separate story - but it's done with such love and so many nods to the canon myth that you can acknowledge this is an offshoot inspired by the myths.
rachel's comic is just so utterly devoid of any kind of love for the original myths and legends. she uses such surface-level interpretations of the characters that removes any complexity from their motivations, and thus the story as a whole. hades and persephone are given depth, supposedly, but zeus being forced to kill his own father, or why he's a sex addict, gets thrown into the trash for cheap shots. demeter's trauma in being made for war, watching her sister torn apart, watching her mother killed, sexually abused by two of her friends, and abused / vilified by hades for centuries, who then goes on to marry her teenage daughter, is tossed away for demeter to be "overbearing mom eugh."
like, rachel wants all the modern glitz and glam of the modern era, but that's it. she does not want to tell a story - she wants to draw her ocs in hot clothes having bad sex.
