Sometimes you read a thing and you're like "this is 113% out of character for both of these people but the trope is so hot and well done that characterization no longer matters." And that's a valid way of writing/enjoying fanfic too.

brienne but she's wearing 1949 cocteau's beauty and the beast inspired fit!!! this is the inspo pic i used if ur curious.
gonna be posting more of this redesign thing (and also jaime's ver) some time in the future but i just wanted to share this one <3
#brienne of tarth#asoiaf#mine.#u know literally just as i finished colouring this i found that some theater made an opera version of this batb#and they made belle's dress BLUE...which is a win for me and also not bc they made it light blue#but here it's supposed to be velvet.. idk if it comes across as velvet but that's the fabric of choice lol.#but im gonna ramble because i really like the concept... i love brienne in pearls!! i feel like pearls will be her jewellery of choice#and i talked abt this before in some post but i think tarth regalia would have a lot of pearls just bc they're an island#and i think they would export pearls alongside marble lol#i love brienne in silver and pearls BUT the reason why the flower thing on her cape is gold bc in the film#the pearl chain was actually a gift from the beast. so she's wearing jaime's gift. and i made the cape more silvery white (leaning on white#to resemble his cloak so it's like... jaime gifting her his white cloak..... hihihIHIHIhhihihihihi......#tbh i drew that concept before too BUT I JUST LIKE IT!!!!!!!! i want it to happen actually....please....thank u..#also the feathers in her hair is bc i want to accessorize her in a brienne way BUT ALSO supposed to be like the plumes knights wore in thei#helm. she's wearing trousers in the fit btw only the upper half of the design is based on beauty but the silhouette mimics beasts' more.#but anyway i really like this design!! bc it's a bit ott but also not in a way that seems out of character for her? idk LOL

I love that **THAT** part of the superhero fandom (You know the ones, they ONLY watch the movies and don’t know shit about comics) just- automatically assume that “Nobody cares” about Blue Beetle or that the movie is just “Antman and Ironman combined”
Like my guy. My dude. You don’t read comics do you. Do you know how popular Jaime is in DC. His look is so iconic even I’ve heard of the character before I even knew what a DC comics was. Sure I didn’t like- know the lore or anything like that but he still has a iconic look to him y’know? Also people DO care for Jaime. He has a solid fanbase. (Also fun fact half the heroes in movies now were heroes nobody gave a shit about if they didn’t read the comics. Wow. Shocking I know)
Also the whole hes just antman and Ironman combined is so funny to me because the line ends at “Oh he’s bug themed and has armor suit” like the comparisons end there. He’s nothing like Antman or Ironman in personality and powers. And y’all would know this if you got your head out of your ass and just READ THE GODDAMN COMICS OR DO FUCKING RESEARCH. Like?????
I don’t understand how some “superhero” fans are just so stupid and don’t know how to use Google.

i love how jaime and barristan are in their own way dismantling the idea of knighthood.
okay call me crazy but aerys kingsgaurd was the last good kingsguard. now i know that they blindly followed orders that hurt others and that doesn’t exempt them from being bad people just because they followed orders but take away the white cloak and those are good men. even jaime he was a cocky asshole, but i’d be too if i was him. he’s like 17 is a member of the kingsguard and one of the best fighters of the time, he was golden and beautiful. AND HE ALSO KILLED AERYS. so he isnt completely brainwashed. but barristan and jaime are both put into positions where they are no longer a white cloak/ the white cloak doesn’t matter.
barristan is kicked out of the white cloaks and has to rethink his whole life. he goes to daenerys and reflects on his past mistakes and how he can change that.
jaime is captured by the starks and his white cloak doesn’t matter. he had already been mulling over the fact that the kingsguard is a lie since he killed aerys. he is scorned and forgot what it means to be honorable and good. he see that in brienne and is reminded of the stories of honor from his childhood. he comes back to kingslanding and sees how the kingsguard lacks all honor that he was reminded of with brienne. this is of course excluding loras (i’m about to make a post about loras and jaime’s relationship).
anyways i just wanted to yap really quick.

Continuing my post about Jaime and Rhaegar’s respective roles in the sack of KL, let’s talk about Jaime and Rhaegar’s last conversation which I didn’t mention in that post and it deserves its own analysis. I find it extremely funny how both (some) Lannister stans and (some) Targ stans seem to think that the last convo between Rhaegar and Jaime was actually like this :
"Jaime, a sack is about to happen very soon. Elia and my kids are in a high risk of getting brutally murdered inside the very capital by the orders of your father who has ghosted us for some time but is deep down an enemy planning all of this in secret. Meanwhile, my father is planning to blow up the entire city any minute now because reasons. I’m leaving you here, alone, to take care of all this and keep all these people, my wife, two kids, father and the people of the city, safe from harm. If you fail to do any of that at any point, you’re incompetent, a traitor and a coward. Now I have to leave to do my thing with the others, don’t forget your duty and your vows, bye".
While it was actually like this :
"Jaime, there’s a war, we are in a pretty tight position and I gotta go to battle taking some men with me. Unfortunately my father wants to keep you close because he believes Tywin will not turn against him this way, and he’s kind of insane so there is nothing we can do about it without risking an even bigger outburst. Give me some time to get out of this mess, and then I’ll come back and we’ll fix this. All this will be over soon, bye".
So the first reading of Jaime and Rhaegar’s last convo completely misses the mark in many ways.
Some Lannister stans are screaming crying throwing up that Rhaegar left a literal cHiLD with all tHiS rEsPoNSIbILIty he doesn’t give a FUCK about anyone how dare he what kind of tHOUGhT PrOCesS is that !!!! Some Targ stans say that Rhaegar gave specific orders to Jaime to protect his father, wife, kids and city against multiple and opposite threats and thus honor his vows, and Jaime failing to do that means he is basically a traitor and a coward. And incompetent.
None of this is correct, because this isn’t what Rhaegar asked him to do, at all. Rhaegar did not know, could not know, could not possibly conceive or imagine or suspect that a sack was about to happen at the orders of Tywin no less and that his family was in immediate danger in.the.very.capital. Nobody.knew. That is why this sack is so horrifying. Also he may have been well aware that his father was insane but not to the point that he could expect him to literally want to blow up his own city. That is a whole other level of insanity he very legitimately didn’t expect. Thirdly, Rhaegar had no power to take Jaime or his family away at this point (« I dare not » is not an epheumism. He literally dares not. We’re talking about Aerys here).
All he asked Jaime to do is wait for Rhaegar to come back and in the meantime try to keep his father at bay. That.is.literally.it. Rhaegar said : « Give me some time, I’ll come back and fix this » And Jaime did wait and he did hope that Rhaegar would come back, but Rhaegar didn’t come back not because he decided to go on vacation with his new chick but because he got killed. Nothing went according to plan, and Jaime had to take matters in his own hands.
So :
Rhaegar did not leave """""all that responsibility""""" to a """"literal child"""".  He left his father the king with the one member of the Kingsguard the king specifically wanted with him, and he told that member of the Kingsguard to literally, wait it out and be a KG. Apart from the fact that Rhaegar couldn’t take Jaime away because Aerys wanted him there, Jaime was not a random child, he was a member of the KG. Him staying with Aerys is technically what he was supposed to do as a member of the KG anyway, there is nothing abnormal or particularly stupid or outrageous or naive in this """"thought process"""", despite Jaime’s age. That order seemed both inevitable (it was Aerys’ order) and reasonable (Jaime was a KINGSguard after all), at the time.
Likewise, Rhaegar did not reasonably expect Jaime to go all Superman on both his father and Tywin’s men and save like the entire population of KL including his own family, all by himself. Again, what he actually told Jaime to do was literally wait for him to come back and try to keep his father at bay. He hoped Jaime’s presence would satiate his father until he comes back. That’s all. He did not know that Aerys would want to blow up KL, he did not know what Jaime would be forced to do and he did not expect the sack and the fact that his family would be murdered in the capital. He didn’t entrust Jaime with all these things simply because he wasn’t expecting these things. All these things were definitely not part of """the job""" Rhaegar gave him. Rhaegar’s GHOST saying to Jaime in his dreams "I left my wife and children in your hands" is manifesting Jaime’s guilt for not being able to save the family. It is a ghost in Jaime’s dream. This doesn’t mean that Rhaegar literally expected Jaime to prevent his father from blowing up the city and simultaneously protect his family from an entirely different threat that wasn’t even remotely a possibility then. Jaime failing to do all of the above by himself doesn’t make him a traitor, an incompetent loser or a coward.
The distortion of their actual convo led the entire fandom to engage in a strawman argument ad nauseam. Lannister stans are attacking Rhaegar for leaving "all this responsibility" to Jaime and Targ stans are attacking Jaime for failing to honor this responsibility, while "all this responsibility" was never part of their actual conversation to begin with because none them had the slightest idea of what was about to happen in the first place.
It is such a pity because this last convo between these two men is so tragic and haunting and beautiful, Jaime (grrm) describes his last visual memory of Rhaegar in an unusually poetic manner, and the fact that deep down he is still waiting and hoping for Rhaegar to come back makes me insane. « The day had been windy when he said farewell to Rhaegar, in the yard of the Red Keep. The prince had donned his night-black armor, with the three-headed dragon picked out in rubies on his breastplate ». « So the Prince of Dragonstone mounted up and donned his tall black helm, and rode forth to his doom ». « It is not Aerys I rue, it is Robert ». « I almost mistook you for Aegon the Conqueror ». « How much can a crown be worth when a crow can feast on a king? ». And instead of focusing on that and the symbolism of it all and that fact that it’s literally foreshadowing Dany’s or Jon’s « return » and their meeting with Jaime (Rhaegar will come back in the end in some form or another, all hope is not lost) we’re reiterating bad takes about a supposed conflict between them ad infinitum. It is boring, reductive and uninspired.
Be serious, read the text and stop spreading misinformation about either side. This is not a football game. We all love a fandom fight occasionally but it is important to actually engage with the themes of the story from time to time.

random but it struck me that age is just another parallel/anti-parallel that Jon and Jaime will share. Jaime was 16/17(?) when he made the fateful choice to kill Aerys, which forever besmirched his honor and caused him to be “the Kingslayer” (deragatory). Jon was about the same age, 17/18, when he made the fateful decision to march south against the Boltons, something that will undoubtedly dent his already shaky reputation and could cause him to be “the deserter” (also deragatory).
We always talk about how Jaime stagnated and wallowed in his nihilism after Aerys’ death, never growing or maturing past that point; in a way, he was always mentally stuck at 17. Jon could very well die given the wounds he received during the mutiny, and though he will be revived, he will be always be physically stuck at 17, never maturing past that point. But I think Jon has been more successful in a way that Jaime never was in that he figured out quite early (when he was 15) that though he may lose his honor, he must keep pushing for the greater good. He understood the concept of “a bastard’s honor”, and is even more fortunate to receive Tyrion’s lesson of using one’s lowly position/lack of honor to his advantage, which he has been doing to enact what he considers to be the moral goods (ref “bastard” “guilty of that, at least”). P.S: I also think it’s funny given Aemon’s advice to kill the boy in order for the man to be born. Ironic that Jon will always be a boy physically.
Jaime grew physically but not so much mentally. Jon grows mentally (it’s actually his strong suit as a character how much he matures with each book) but he will have sacrificed the ability to age normally as a boy would. Jaime lost his honor at ~17 and is characterized but years of (mental) inaction. I think Jon, on the other hand, will lose his honor but will be more and more prone to making decisions, because to hell with it all.

AIGHT this idea has been marinating for a while now and I finally had a free moment to get these ideas down! Mostly I just really like mantis blades and wanted to give them to my favorite lil guy.
I figure Khaji Da reasons that Jaime really needs a way to defend himself properly in case they go offline for whatever reason. Mainly if the Reach shows up and tries to get them back On Mode and under control, then Khaji can deactivate without worrying too much about Jaimes safety.
During all of this Jaime is likely going to need to sleep hard and eat hard. It’s similar to getting better after a cold or healing an injury. As for the duration of all this I’m not sure. I want to say relatively quickly because Khaji wants to minimize suffering, but I also gotta consider what’s reasonable. So a week? Maybe? Minimum? Needless to say this uh. Really sucks for Jaime. But having these on both arms assists in defense, offense and even climbing. Khaji can rest well knowing their host is safe.

I’m tipsy at a family gathering and have a cat in my lap and I’m having lots of feelings rn.
Jamie’s mom always went full out for holidays and birthdays. They didn’t have much money but my god did she never have Jamie think that.
Obviously when he got older he knew and would watch her take a second job or sometimes around holidays a third job. He would secretly try to pay things his own way sometimes.
So even back when Jamie was a prick he would drop an insane amount of money for charity anonymously for kids who need it.
He signs everything he can because he remembers and treasures how important getting Roy to sign his poster was for him.
He bought his moms house from the landlord. He bought her a car. He fucking did everything in his power to make sure his mom never looked how exhausted as she did growing up.
And while I love prick Jamie I also love soft Jamie who is curled up on a couch under Roy’s arm with a (hairless) cat. He texts with his mom almost every day, even little things like “Roy got Marigold a new sweater losing my mind rn !!” And she will always text back a “oh baby send pics of my grandcat I love u!”

no word in the english dictionary can express my absolute hatred and disgust for anyone who reads a story and comes away with "well, if I was x character, i would've done y and it'd have solved the problems". if I was the king, my council would be x and y and be filled sigma pilled alpha males instead of eugh politicians. if i was this knight, i wouldve simply killed my enemy and solved everyone's problems instead of upholding a code of honor. if i was x lady, i wouldve simply been a good wife and accepted the forced marriage i was put into at 13 years old and had children and not destroyed the realm.
any variant of it. im focusing on fantasy because it's the point in my head, but also sci fi. any speclit. any literature in general. if your understanding of the story starts and ends with "if i was there i would've simply done it different. rip to them but i am different", i am going to tear into your flesh with sharp implements, sorry

So a thing that always bothers me when I see people on Tumblr mention CBT - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, for all you fellow perverts out there - is that if you were told that CBT is about “thinking will make your problem go away” then you either had a shitty therapist (which is entirely likely) or you weren’t listening closely enough (which is also likely for all of us with different flavors of neurodivergence).
I say this as someone who did CBT to only middling success - it wasn’t a cure-all, but it DID give me some tools that help in very specific aspects of my life. No, stopping and naming my sudden burst of rage or sadness or hopelessness as PMDD or a depressive episode does not make that burst go away. But after doing it for a while, it makes it easier to DEAL with that burst. Reminding myself of that makes it easier to not take it out on someone else, to successfully tell myself “this isn’t someone else’s problem, it will pass soon, it always does, being an asshole about it only makes it worse.” I still feel absolutely shitty, but thanks to that self-training I feel less shitty on the back end than I otherwise would.
When my brain tells me I’m worthless, CBT taught me to immediately follow up by asking “would anyone I care about say that about me?” Does it mean the worthlessness completely disappears? No, but it can function like a rope tying me to reality so I can ride the shitty terrible thoughts out to the other side without doing anything stupid. Sometimes the rope is sturdy. Sometimes it’s embroidery floss. But any tether is better than none at all.
Does it always work? No. But it works often enough that learning some CBT methods was worth it for me. Knowing what the problem is doesn’t negate the problem. It just reminds me that controlling how I behave when it occurs will make life better for me in the long run. I still need the drugs. I still have other coping mechanisms. That’s just one of them.
That’s why Behavioral is in the title. CBT isn’t for everyone, and it’s not going to work on every issue. But it can be useful tool in your “deal with my mental illness and/or neurodivergence” toolbox. It’s not a scam. It’s not just pseudo-science bullshit. It’s just training yourself to remember that even if you can’t control the pain, you can control how you react to it, and that control can be a gift to yourself.

thinking about how jaime and cersei used to dress up as each other as kids. and how they looked so similar they're own father couldnt tell them apart.
they were probably so confused when they began growing up and no longer looked completely identical.
i think its so interesting though. like a lot of characters are explored through the lens of gender and gender roles in asoiaf and cersei and jaime are so fascinating to me in the way they fit into that.
as children they were a pair an identical set. and then they grew. and then the second they reached past the age of adolescent androgyny they were both forced into their respective gender roles.
it mustve been so confusing for cersei who grew up genuinly believing she and jaime were one and the same, two halves of a whole to be treated so much lesser than him. to be no longer his twin. but instead his twin sister.
she talks about the difference in the way theyre treated as kids but imagine just how much more shocking and awful it must be to have to watch as your twin who was once your literal carbon copy gets told all about his future freedom and prospects whilst you are forced into preparing for you future as a housewife at age like? 12?

The ingrained intimacy of being able to turn your back to someone
Jaime fighting against every instinct and bit of Khaji's programming just to turn his back to Jason, because he trusts Jason. He trusts Jason with his life, with khaji's existance. He can and will turn his back to Jason, he will be cuddled, he wants his boyfriend to cuddle him damnit! Khaji's alerts and warnings may blare, but that's just protocol. It's standard for everyone, no matter their relationship towards him
Jason ignoring every ounce of training that he has had over the course of his life, sidestepping every learned life lesson from the streets. It's scary, of course it is. He's trusting someone to be in one of his blindspots, he's never had someone not exploit it in some way. He doesn't want to keep finding a way to angle himself to keep his blindspots as spots he can see. He doesn't want to keep having to plan in their apartment and be all tense when he could just trust someone and let go
Hdjsjsjdjjd THEM i love them so much they're so filled with anxiety and fear your honor

So now that Blue Beetle is releasing digitally tomorrow (With by the looks of it some countries already getting it) I’m gonna stress this out.
If you haven’t watched this movie yet, go see it now. This movie deserves more recognition than what it’s currently getting. I mean, WB actually making a good DC movie? It’s more likely than you think!
I mean it’s not anything groundbreaking or anything like that. It’s just a fun time. It doesn’t need to break any records or change movies forever for it to be good.
Also as much as I wish it didn’t flop, I know that doesn’t lessen its quality. Many movies over the years have flopped in theaters with them getting a comeback after leaving cinemas (Think Encanto, Blade Runner 2049)
Now is the perfect time to watch this movie. I want it to get the recognition it rightfully deserves.
