Collection Spotlight: Janet Jackson - Miss You Much 12" Single (1989)
I love really great "new arrival" bin finds! The Rhythm Nation album is so good, I knew I had to pick up this single off of that album. The remixes are a lot of fun, but the non-album track "You Need Me" is where it's at! I love finding singles that have non-album tracks, especially from artists and albums that I love.
This is definitely worth the pick up if you love classic pop music and/or remixes!

JANET JACKSON - Rhythm Nation 1814 // 2019 Reissue
Viele weitere sollten folgen.

If your ocs were in the modern era, what would there favorite musicians be?
So im terrible at naming musicians and such, so ill go for genre and general taste!
Marius: "whatever's on the radio", and old French music his parents would listen to. He probably likes any music that gets him pumped and has a hard beat. Willing to listen to any genre and is terrible at describing what he likes! Doesn't have a spotify or itunes, just types the song into youtube and blasts that from his cracked phone. Loves a handful of French radio stations he streams on his phone; the quality is fucked and it drains his battery but he doesnt care.
Jack: Exclusively oldies bluegrass and gospel bc thats all his parents would play. Modern pop country and christian rock confounds him. He could swear his pa said something about drums being the devil's instrument. Metal is scary until he reads the lyrics and has a small mental shutdown. Just like him fr fr... thinks Marius' French stations are incomprehensible but he says nothing bc he doesnt have a better suggestion.
Lottie: A huuuge pop girlie, as well as jazz and 90s r&b. Yes jazz is a very broad genre, but she'd like so much of it, especially more unique or weird sounds. Doesnt "get" hyperpop or tiktok music and worries she's getting old bc of that. LOVES musicals and would likely be a professional in the modern times, and if not that, she'd be in local theaters.
Eveline: Still uses cassettes and CDs, and theyre all classical, opera recordings and vocalists, mostly European. Enjoys some musicals. She thinks she's kinda up to date on modern pop music, but when you ask her what's the last pop album she listened to, she'll say Celine Dion's Falling Into You. She'd start sobbing if she got to see Natalie Dessay.
Máire: Huge punk and rock girlie, especially the Irish scene. Probably exclusively listens to punk tbh. She'd frequent the clubs and smoke too much in the corner while appearing disinterested but is actually vibing so hard w the music. Really loves making mixtapes and recordings, never got into vinyls or cds. Wants spotify to burn and die.
Malwina: LOOOVES pop and is a massive Britney Spears, Selena, Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson fan. 90s-2000s pop is her favorite by far and those are the only CDs she owns. Probs has a beatup little red Ipod she's had since middle school; it was a hand me down from her oldest cousin and she treasures it even if it's "old". Queen of pirating and burning music but by god she paid for her Mariah Carey and Britney Spears cds. She wanted the pretty inserts and lyric booklets.
Slyvester: Loves a lot of swing and oldies from his parent's day, and Italian vocalists his wife adores. They played Andrea Bocelli almost exclusively at the wedding. Finds the music his sons listen to bizarre but doesn't mind the rock and alt rock too much.

Research Task 13.10.22
-Song: Bus Ride
-Artist: Kaytranada
-Background: Born in Louis Celestin in 1992, the capital of Haiti, and  moved to Toronto, Canada the following year. Kaytranada spoke to Fader magazine about his struggles with depression, anxiety and problems dealing with his sexuality, speaking openly about the anxiety caused when telling his family; “We’re Haitians, and Haitians don’t appreciate gay people at all... I thought maybe it was a phase.”, whilst also telling the Guardian, “I had a lot of fatigue, and a real identity crisis and a bunch of stuff that I was going through, like my sexuality.”
-How long have they been making music: Released his debut album “99.9%” in 2016, featuring artists such as Vic Mensa,  Anderson Paak, Syd tha Kyd and Craig David. Kaytranada became a Soundcloud sensation after releasing a bootleg remix of Janet Jackson’s “If” in 2012, following the successful hit up with some other remixes before branching out and discovering his own style.
-Style/Genre - RnB/ Hip-Hop/ Electronica
-How does the song “Bus Ride” fit in with larger body of work?: Bus Ride is the second song on the artists debut album. Following on from the up tempo Track Uno, which is a punchy opening track, Bus Ride feels a little more relaxed. The track dropped before the album was released, teasing what was to come on 99.9% and features Kaytranadas first collaboration with jazz drummer/ producer Karriem Riggins as well as Toronto based producer River Tiber. The song features the usual blend of jazzy and synth beats that can be expected from the Haitian-Canadian. There are no vocals on the track, Riggins drumming becoming the focal point of the track and builds towards one of the first tracks featuring vocals. Kaytranada posted about Bus Ride on twitter; “Bus Ride: tried to make a Jazz sounding song to listen to while i take the bus/subway to go to Montreal downtown”.
-How was 99.9% released?: Released worldwide as an album, vinyl record and on multiple streaming platforms, 99.9% was also promoted using a video game of the same title, something Kaytranada has said was the label companies idea as he “..sucks at video games”.
-Music from period of release: 2016 was an eclectic year of music. Kaytranada’s style and album 99.9% would fit somewhere within the RnB and Hip Hop section at your local HMV, releasing the same year as other impressive albums such as Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book, pantomime villain Kanye West’s Life of Pablo, Frank Ocean’s Blond and Beyonce’s Lemonade. It was a big year for RnB/ Hip-hop, with Skepta’s album Konnichiwa (more Grime than Hip-hop) winning the coveted Mercury Prize, marking a change from the usual winning genres.

🌟Janet Jackson 🌟 🎵Unbreakable [Gatefold Vinyl LP] ( Eyes Closed or Eyes Open)🎵 @janetjackson ❤️🎵 Note: You may receive either the open eyes cover or the eyes closed cover. 1 per person Unbreakable is the eleventh studio album by Janet "Ms. Jackson if you nasty." Janet reunited with songwriting/production duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, their last collaboration being on her ninth studio album 20 Y.O. (2006). Additional songwriting and production was provided by Dem Jointz, Tommy McClendon and Thomas Lumpkins. Featured artists include J. Cole and Missy Elliott. Unbreakable's theme reflects various experiences over the course of Jackson's life—including aspects of her childhood and the death of her brother Michael—in addition to socially conscious messages prevalent in her 1989 album Rhythm Nation 1814. Its lead single "No Sleeep" became her 40th entry on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, peaking at number 63, as well as her most successful entry on the US Adult R&B Songs chart, topping the chart for twelve non-consecutive weeks. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, becoming Jackson's seventh album to top the chart in the United States. This made her the third act in the history of the chart to have a number one album in each of the last four decades. 1. "Unbreakable" 2. "Burnitup!" (featuring Missy Elliott) 3. "Dammn Baby" 4. "The Great Forever" 5. "Shoulda Known Better" 6. "After You Fall" 7. "Broken Hearts Heal" 8. "Night" 9. "No Sleeep" (featuring J. Cole) 10. "Dream Maker / Euphoria" 11. "2 B Loved" 12. "Take Me Away" 13. "Promise" 14. "Lessons Learned" 15. "Black Eagle" 16. "Well Traveled" 17. "Gon' B Alright" 💥💥💥LINK IN BIO https://www.instagram.com/p/CeoBUm_sA6S/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
