This is technically canon, but only in spirit; at the point of this occurring, Black would never say/admit/think anything good about Jenn but for the sake of stupid AUs I gave him a concussion XD Of course, she wouldn't believe him anyway, but it would catch her off guard because it's so out of pocket; him not using it to get away would also be confusing. 

"Under the Knife" AU (it's not actually an AU) blurb:

In this AU snippet, this is his breaking point where he finally gives up, as he's given a moment of mental clarity and realizes it's not worth it. With everything that's happened, the foggy thought that this angry human covered in cuts and dirt, holding his own knife to his throat even though it wouldn't do anything to him, is so far disconnected from how he feels with his head not full of commands and prompts, he doesn't even register the threat. "It is what it is".

If they keep going, sure he'd probably work out a win purely because he outlasts and outclasses her in strength and stamina--but she's outsmarted him in every instance. This wouldn't be any different. He feels it. Knows it.

In this moment, through glitching HUD and cracked lenses, he can see her eyes. The desperation and rage so intense they seem to glow, filled with light and thunder that he put there. In another life, this would make him proud--smug even--to know this force of will behind her eyes was his doing. These feelings exist because of him. For him. He'd driven her to this point and come out on the other side at her feet.

He was a failure, but that mattered so much less than the light of her eyes in this moment. With nothing else to lose, nothing left ahead, he let himself have this one thought because it was his. Only his, with no malice or command behind it, no ulterior motive for it to exist. Under the ash and blood, beneath the bruises and cuts he himself inflicted in their repeated scuffles with each adding more fury to the brilliant blue irises that pinned him down more assuredly than the knife ever could, he found beauty.

By his own choice, he would say as much, even if she would never believe him. That wasn't the point, however, so it didn't matter if she accepted this truth as it tumbled from his tired mouth. At least he knew it was his choice to speak. To say what he could manage through the horrid pain in his head.

And yet a flicker changed in those raging blue eyes--confusion--as short lived as it was. She wouldn't believe him--she DIDN'T believe him.

But that wasn't the point.

He didn't care.

He was tired.

"Well?" he went on when she failed to act. "Just get it over with already."

Do. something. with my roller coaster hyperfixation. but im not an engineer i dont want to design them #thats so scary and i couldnt be a ride op cos im scared of riding most of them (disclaimer I KNOW HOW SAFE THEY ARE THATS NOT THE PROBLEM #I DONT HANDLE THE PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE OF THRILL RIDES FILLING ME WITH ADRENALINE VERY WELL IT CAUSES ME PAIN #i do not enjoy it. but i love to see coasters and watch them and read about them 🥺 and also sometimea i read about. the incidents which #felt like very foolish at first like okay this isnt gonna help me get comfortable riding them but honestly actually it did help? #to see how many of the incidents are like. truly like either freak accidents or someone fucked up #but like the rides safety mechanisms usually are very good and not the reason for an accident. most errors seem to be like. act of god or #like. operator or rider error. and some of the operator errors are kind of terrifying BUT ALSO seem like things that can be prevented #maybe the new wave of unionizing in the us will sweep into theme park employees and make sure theyre paid well and recieve good benefits #and that they are not pressured to prioritize profits or faster throughput at the expense of safety. and (really optimistic i know) maybe #we as a society and culture can unlearn our systemic fatphobia to the point that its doable to turn someone away for being #too big to ride safely without making them feel like shit or like its their fault and MAYBE we'll even possibly just maybe figure out how #to make rides that can actually accommodate larger guests safely so they can participate in the fun without fear or bodyshaming #logically i know theres no way to remove 100% of risk and that there is still heightened risk especially for ppl w various #medical conditions but idk i think we as a society can keep theme parks and do them well. i believe in us. #i should go to more of them....ive been to like. not that many but i do still have favorites #hershey my beloved. i LOVE how visible all the coasters are all the time i LOVE the skyview going right through great bears track #i hope i can go again this yr and see the new wildcat 🥺 absolutely not going to ride that fucking thing but i am definitely going to stare #at it. jenn if youre reading this i cannot fucking believe you got me to ride og wildcat honestly #p sure that rattle gave me a headache and i would not do it again that was a rough fucking ride lol but im glad u somehow got me into that #i have. such a complicated relationship with being peer pressured onto rides lol #like on the one hand i do need that a little bit or i definitely wont do it but on the other. being forced onto comet as a child was #slightly traumatizing and definitely marked my turn from wanting to ride all the coasters to jot wanting to ride anything #to my parents credit on that one they do recognize it as a mistake and were sorry about it like immediately so i dont hold it against them #but also dont. force ur children to ride coasters lol. but i do need to go spend a day at hershey just forcing myself to ride great bear #over and over. fav coaster best coaster. its so fucking loud. its shaped so good. pretty color scheme. its constellation themed #i do love and am obsessed with how hershey packs all those tracks together like that it looks so cool i love to see it #candymonium right at the entrance like that is Extremely distracting very immediately

Today 11/16/23 Frozen 4 was confirmed to be in production by CEO of the Walt Disney Company Bob Iger on Good Morning America while promoting the World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland.

"Well, I'll give you a little surprise there, Michael. 'Frozen 3' is in the works and there might be a 'Frozen 4' in the works too." "But I don't have much to say about those films right now," Iger continued. "But Jenn Lee, who created 'Frozen,' the original 'Frozen' and 'Frozen II,' is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories."

Frozen 3 was confirmed earlier this year on 2/8/23 by Bob Iger and on 10/5/23 the co-director of Frozen and Frozen 2 and CCO of WDAS, Jennifer Lee, has also talked about the next sequel

“Our philosophy is this, and it won’t change: If there is more story to tell, the filmmakers have to drive it. And I’ll say with ‘Frozen,’ Marc Smith, who was our director of story on ‘Frozen 2,’ came with an incredible idea for more ‘Frozen,’ and it’s worth it.”

It appears that Frozen 3 and Frozen 4 are in production at the same time, hinting to many fans that this may be one story broken into two parts like Marvel has done with the Spider-Verse and Avengers movies.

This will be the first time Walt Disney Animation Studios has ever done a third sequel and the first time they have ever done a fourth sequel as well.

California became just the third state in the nation to pass a "right to repair" consumer protection law on Tuesday, following Minnesota and New York, when Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 244. The California Right to Repair bill had originally been introduced in 2019. It passed, nearly unanimously, through the state legislature in September.

“This is a victory for consumers and the planet, and it just makes sense,” Jenn Engstrom, state director of CALPIRG, told iFixit(which was also one of SB244's co-sponsors). “Right now, we mine the planet’s precious minerals, use them to make amazing phones and other electronics, ship these products across the world, and then toss them away after just a few years’ use ... We should make stuff that lasts and be able to fix our stuff when it breaks, and now thanks to years of advocacy, Californians will finally be able to, with the Right to Repair.”

Turns out Google isn't offering seven years of replacement parts and software updates to the Pixel 8 out of the goodness of its un-beating corporate heart. The new law directly stipulates that all electronics and appliances costing $50 or more, and sold within the state after July 1, 2021 (yup, two years ago), will be covered under the legislation once it goes into effect next year, on July 1, 2024. For gear and gadgets that cost between $50 and $99, device makers will have to stock replacement parts and tools, and maintain documentation for three years. Anything over $100 in value gets covered for the full seven-year term. Companies that fail to do so will be fined $1,000 per day on the first violation, $2,000 a day for the second and $5,000 per day per violation thereafter.

There are, of course, carve outs and exceptions to the rules. No, your PS5 is not covered. Not even that new skinny one. None of the game consoles are, neither are alarm systems or heavy industrial equipment that "vitally affects the general economy of the state, the public interest, and the public welfare."

“I’m thrilled that the Governor has signed the Right to Repair Act into law," State Senator Susan Talamantes Eggman, one of the bill's co-sponsors, said. "As I’ve said all along, I’m so grateful to the advocates fueling this movement with us for the past six years, and the manufacturers that have come along to support Californians’ Right to Repair. This is a common sense bill that will help small repair shops, give choice to consumers, and protect the environment.”

The bill even received support from Apple, of all companies. The tech giant famous for its "walled garden" product ecosystem had railed against the idea when it was previously proposed in Nebraska, claiming the state would become "a mecca for hackers." However, the company changed its tune when SB 244 was being debated, writing a letter of support reportedly stating, "We support 'SB 244' because it includes requirements that protect individual users' safety and security as well as product manufacturers' intellectual property."

this might be mean but i am glad nini was off the show and a lot of characters were taken off regular status because the show needed fresh story lines after season 2

This is going to be a long answer and probably a controversial one too but I feel now that the show is over I can finally say it. I really agree. And this is in no way shade to the actors but how things were constructed in the show. I feel like it helped the show to just focus on other dynamics and characters. If you take the S1 nostalgia aspect, Season 3 and Season 4 were such a massive improvements after Season 2, which is undeniably their weakest season of all.

I liked Nini, but as a character I feel like she wasn’t giving “main character energy”. It didn’t help either that most of her arcs were individual or about Ricky or Miss Jenn. So when you took her out, she wasn’t really missed in terms of the dynamics with other characters because those improved so much after she left. On Season 3 and Season 4 the group dynamics finally felt like a family and solid friendship instead of separated groups with separated plot lines.

Also, character arc wise, I feel like Nini’s arc ended on Season 2. Her arc has always been about spreading her wings outside of East High and finding what makes her happy. She got that at the end of Season 2 so it feels like it came to a natural conclusion. Nini’s send off on Season 3 was beautiful and a nice tribute to her character and her relationships. Even now, the small details that keep Nini’s character alive are sweet. I like Olivia but Nini as a character just wasn’t memorable enough for me to care. There's not "void" to me because the show has so many great actors and vocalists that were able to shine in Nini’s absence and I am glad. I would have hated if they Rachel Berry-ed her.

A character that benefited the most from Nini’s departure was Kourtney, who was perpetually stuck in the “black best friend” stereotype. Season 3 was such an improvement because Kourt was given an individual arc that wasn’t about Nini and her issues. Plus, Gina and Kourtney’s friendship felt so much more natural and reciprocated as well and her interactions with the whole group, especially with Carlos.

Gina always felt like the hidden female main character to me because her character had so many emotional layers. I’ve always said Sofia is the best actress the show has and is constantly rising the bar in scenes with her other co-stars. Anyone that's not giving her the flowers she deserves for this last season are just crazy.

Now, one of the biggest issues with Season 2 was adding new characters while also trying to handle plot lines for the established characters. It was messy. None of the plot lines were resolved and it was too crowded with most of the new characters staying as one dimensional and stereotypical. The season was dragged out and boring. The best choice this show made was to cut down on some of them for Season 3. I like Big Red but I don't think he was neccesary as a regular at camp. I am glad he wasn't there because it gave Ashlyn space to explore herself and get one of the best character arcs on this show. Same goes for Ricky. He needed new friendships and Jet was a great one to have. I liked Big Red's cameo and it was well placed. Same goes for Seb, I like him but I am glad Carlos was able to have a solo storyline about his own insecurities and also develop stronger dynamics with the group. His friendship with Ricky was great. Seb’s cameo was well placed.

Maddox and Jet were the best additions this show has ever made. And I don't take anyone seriously if they think otherwise. After season 2, the show needed changes. A new enviroment and characters that added value. Maddox and Jet gave us a new dynamic and instantly felt like a part of the group because they weren’t there to just exist temporarily, they pushed the story lines of the existing characters forward. The show needed a canon sapphic character and Maddox was perfect and relatable. Her arc with Ash goes down as one of the best on this show. Jet was great and Adrian's vocals are show stopping. Not only did the siblings added a much needed representation but were very easy to love. Even Val, in her minimal screen time, added actual value to the story lines.

And now goes to EJ, he was not going to be a regular part of Season 4 since he isn’t in East High anymore. It was the natural progression of his character. His appearance this season felt very well placed with where his character was. It would have been very weird to find an excuse to keep him at the school just for the sake of keeping him as a regular. Glad they didn’t do it.

So yes, I think a lot of the changes were necessary and made this show better.

The list of names and who belongs to who (in order from left to right, with what lord communicates to them next to their names) is Karl (Blinky), Jenn (Nibbly), Sabryna (Pokey), James (Tinky), and Mateo (Wiggly).

Someone: so how are you?

Me: The reason why High School Musical The Musical The Series works so well is because at the end of the day, it took the correct but surface level message of the original movies (that theater is for everyone, even jocks and math nerds), and added a sense of depth to it that reflects reality better than pretty much any other theater focused show or movie I've ever seen.

When I say that, I mean that shows or movies that involve a drama club or theater in general will take the message of "theater is for everyone" and really only apply it to queer (and sometimes only queer coded) outcasts. And yeah, it's true that theater is for the queer outcasts. I'm saying this as a queer person who loves theater! Theater is a major safe space for all the queer people who were picked last in dodgeball, and that will never change. But some things (*cough* the Theater Camp movie *cough*) will take that idea and project their message as "yeah, theater is for everyone" but they really only mean those types of people. HSMTMTS, on the other hand, understands that theater is not just for the queer outcasts, but for everyone.

Yes, there are queer kids in the East High Drama Club (who have significant arcs and get to be more than just stereotypes). There are also straight kids in the club (who also get full character arcs and get to be more than the butt of the joke in a theater environment). They are able to co-exist. There are certified skater bois who start off only caring about themselves. There are water polo players with six packs who have also been into theater for years. There are shy kids who don't think they can handle being on stage and then really come into their own by the end of the series. There are kids with anxiety. There are outgoing kids who want to be the center of attention. There are kids who have been kicked out of school for their attitude problems and kids who have never been in one place long enough to get attached to people. There is never a joke made about the straight, good looking, social butterflies not belonging in the club, because Miss Jenn truly understands the message that THEATER IS FOR EVERYONE, not just the Sharpays and Ryans. and you can be pissed about EJ’s daddy issues and how unloved he is by his father but saying Ricky ‘always gets what he wants’ as though his mama didn’t abandon him, his daddy isn’t using money they barely have to take Miss Jenn on cruises, like his teachers telling him he has no profitable skills or prospects, like Miss Jenn telling him to jump off of something high isn’t CRAZY is nuts to me! but yeah, he’s ‘always winning’ because two girls that have always liked him still liked him and he got a couple of leads in musicals. Carlos Rodriguez for the ask!

Got A LOT of requests for my cutie, Carlos- so here you go everyone! :)

Favorite thing about them: His wit and sass. He literally had me in tears laughing throughout season 3 and there are so many times his sass just works in the scene. He’s an absolute diva and he knows it, but his bluntness with the characters keeps the drama moving along. I would give anything to have a girls night where Carlos and I wear face masks, eat chocolate, and discuss our friends relationships. You couldn’t tell me that wouldn’t be the best night ever.

Least favorite thing about them: His sass/diva persona is a double-edged sword. There are a lot of times he comes across harsh or selfish when he wants his way. Determination is a great thing, but putting your friends needs below it (like the co-choreographer debocal), will leave you lonely and sad. I know he has big dreams, but sometimes he puts his needs first at others expense and it can come across as egotistical. I think this is a root to a lot of the Seblos issues- Carlos only reads how he interprets situations as correct, rather than putting himself in the other person’s shoes.

“Remember, Ricky, you have unresolved feelings for Gina”… “Gina, what’s your motivation?” Gina: I don’t want to get started “Yes, AND you’re angry at your boyfriend and using your ex-boyfriend to get under his skin. Basically, have fun torturing EJ” Gina: I can do that 😈

“Jilted ex suits you bro… oh no. I said ‘bro’ and now you’re gonna reveal something”

-bonus: “Sorry. I’m adjusting to being called ‘bro’”

“I didn’t come to make friends” “It cut me off! I said, ‘I didn’t come to make friends, I came to be a star!” Ricky: yeah, that’s not any better

brOTP: Carlos and Ricky, Kourtney, and Miss Jenn… but if I had to pick one, probably Kourtney

Something I expect from them season 4 (if applicable): I think the situation of Carlos at camp is going to get confused by Seb of Carlos cheating again. I think Seb will think the relationship is over (“we were on a break!”… if you know what I’m quoting, you’re the best), so he will date someone else. This will parallel the r*ni fight in S1, which gets us the Seblos song.

Random Headcanon: even if this never happens in S4, it is my personal HC that as a thank you for s2, Carlos helps Ricky write a song for Gina.

Unpopular Opinion: I don’t even know if this actually is unpopular, but I could see it being that way so I am putting it here. His line to Gina about “look around, there’s not really a lot of me here” has bothered me since it happened. I think things like being from multiple minorities is really important to address in shows like this, so I’m glad it was brought up. However, I think his timing/tone for bringing it up was bad because it read more as “my problems are bigger than yours!” rather than, “hey I get what it feels like to be lonely and how important choreography makes me feel like I stand out/have purpose”. Instead Carlos seemed defensive and was like “I have problems too!” So this caused Gina to cower and let him lead the dance number. He didn’t even say thank you or try to encourage her to still help him, he just was like “ok great!” And seemed like he was happy he got his way. IDK I guess this goes back to my disliked trait for him, because Gina in that moment probably just needed a friend and somebody to show her she didn’t have to suffer alone, but instead Carlos flipped the situation back on him and it seemed guilt-trippy. I wish they would have brought up his struggles in a different context or had him use a different tone/dialogue in that scene that didn’t paint him like that, is all.

Song I associate with them: The King by Conan Gray, Hand on Mine Megan and Liz, and I know it’s from the show (I’m trying to avoid songs from the show for this ask) but since he doesn’t sing it I’ll use it. But I think of him every time I listen to Born to be Brave; his talk with Mozzarella Stick and him being lifted by the whole crowd is burned into my brain so I see it whenever I listen to that song
