Aemond/Luke is THE most unlikely out of all the ships for exactly the reasons you outlined. Imagine becoming permanently disabled because of someone and then forgiving them? Betraying your mother, the only person who cares about your pain for the person who maimed you? Not in a million years would Aemond do such a thing-

Listen, if you ship it, that's your thing, live your life, I too have liked many an unpopular ship in my time (you are currently looking at someone who is forever bitter that Dair broke up and that Jeronica will never be canon). But a lot of the content for that ship hinges on Aemond either somehow already being over something we know he's not over, to the point where his idea of restitution is the exact same thing that his mother said would be adequate restitution back when the event happened because it was such a formative moment for him at such a young age.

There's a way to make it work, if that's your thing, but you need to put in the effort to make it work, and I haven't seen a lot of people do that. There's a common scenario that's just "Luke agrees to stab out his eye and Aemond suddenly realizes it was bad and pledges his sword to Rhaenyra" or something and it's just.......Would he tho? Would he think it's bad? Or would he decide that justice has been served and go on his way and leave Luke's healing to his own people? A lot of the shippers also tend to be Team Blacks (again, fair and valid and etc) so there's not much of an impetus to reconcile the idea that Aemond has to forgive someone who has never shown any remorse or guilt and hasn't tried to give any restitution or atonement towards Aemond for what happened, which makes the whole thing hard to reconcile.

And just, nah Aemond isn't betraying his fam any time soon. He's way too attached to his mother and it's clear that he loves his siblings enough to go to bat for them (well, loves Aegon enough, they've given Helaena next to nothing and Daeron is error 404 right now). I'm all for AUs and canon divergence and all that, but that doesn't necessarily mean I gotta like it or think it's good storytelling.

Jeronica Fic #AU Stonewall Prep idea/Concept

Slight season 1 change being that Veronica didn't go to Riverdale High and make friends with Betty and Archie.

Veronica instead got sent to Stonewall Prep. But she still wanted to be different than the other rich kids she immensely bored around.

Until Jughead and Moose come to Stonewall. She takes an interest in Jughead. [He can either be with Betty or he can be single. Either works.] And she decides to help him with the Stonewall Four mystery. And which allows them also get to know each other.

Now of course the bonding can go from near kisses to actual ones. And depending on if he's with Betty or not will depend on how the actions would be perceived. But either way, if he's with Betty it ends the relationship or Veronica and Jughead deal with their feelings.

He can still fake his death but maybe they decide to set Veronica up as the fall guy instead with the change in gfs per say.

And Veronica continues to help him. Visiting him any chance she can while he's in the bunker. Allows them to have feelings conversations and such.

Then of course the happy ending. Betty and Archie can get together. And of course, Jughead and Veronica start officially dating.

after watching when harry met sally with kate we both felt like sally's and harry's dynamic really resembled what jughead and veronica could have been in s5. I know she's been wanting to write an actual jeronica whms au after some of her other fics get finished, so I'll probably never go anywhere with this idea because I wouldn't wanna step on their toes, but Ive been thinking about a fic inspired by whms where jughead and veronica keep running into each other during the time skip (since they're both living in nyc) and their relationship gradually goes from disliking each other to becoming close friends. I'd love to include some scenes of them helping each other through the issues with their respective relationships, and I think veronica would divorce chad much sooner in this au now that she has another support system in her life. I don't think the two of them would actually get together until muuuuuch later though, when they're both back in riverdale and beginning to get their lives back on track. in the spirit of the movie, I think the two of them get paired up at cheryl's key party. jughead is sober in this universe since I think he'd stop drinking earlier than in canon, and the two of them do end up hooking up. it's awkward, just like between harry and sally, and it isn't until a full year later, at veronica's party for the casino's grand opening, that the two of them actually do get together.

If riverdale ends with everyone ending up in a new version of the town where they’ve succeeded in “bending towards justice”, erasing everything from the previous seasons so they can all live happily in new!Riverdale, would that be a satisfying ending for you? It certainly won’t for me, but unfortunately that seems to be the direction we’re headed… and I don’t like it :/ invalidating the first 6 seasons of your show makes the entire show pointless.

This whole season lowkey feels like a waste so far - there’s no plot progression! All we’re doing is slogging through things we as the audience already know (I don’t need to see why Varchie doesn’t work for the 80 billionth time, or watch Kevin struggle to come out when he’s always been out and proud, or watch Cheryl torture herself by being with Archie when we all know she’s a lesbian). Why bother investing in these new relationships like Kevin & Clay, Jeronica, or Cheryl & Toni if none of this is going to matter… unless it is going to matter beyond the 50’s, in which case the previous 6 seasons get thrown out the window and we disregard everything these characters have gone through, their lives and families, and all of their development. Making the last season of your show an AU is just a godawful choice. It’s fun for maybe an episode or two, but it certainly shouldn’t be more than half the season! We’re only 3 episodes in and it’s already tired, laughably irrelevant, and blatantly mocking fans and the relationships we’ve all come to love.

I like the idea of the characters in the '50s (most of them at least) not being weighed down by the pain and the trauma of the last six seasons. But you are right, that works when it is something like Rivervale for a few episodes. It doesn't hit the same way in the final season — especially when it looks like most of it will be set in the '50s.

The only way I feel like it won't fall flat for me is if they return to the present day with their memories. Specifically, though, I think they would need to regain their memories in the '50s and spend a good chunk of time in the know before they get to the present vs too much time as these new versions of themselves.

I think in an ideal world this '50s storyline could be compelling if it shapes the characters we already spent so much time with. Like if Betty and Archie still find their way back to one another proving that they are meant to be in any universe. Or Cheryl and Toni getting their happily ever after which helps them get back together in the present without all the big obstacles still at play.

Long story short, I do agree with all of your points. We have only seen 3 episodes out of 20 but it feels too ambitious for a season that needs to wrap things up. The only thing from the '50s that we actually need (in my opinion) is Clay. Take him and leave everything else.

a dair fic from the dair queen when haha?

ahh, i was very tempted at one point, but i sort of channeled all my dair love into jeronica. there are quite a few fics on ao3 where blair eventually divorces ch*ck and reunites with dan, and they're all pretty great, so i feel like i wouldn't be adding anything interesting to it, especially as a veeeeery infrequent watcher of GG, but i might dash off a oneshot one day, you never know. i'm kind of drawn to the idea of an AU where they're still in high school and still hate each other but they're thrown together for various academic projects and it's a simmering slowburn, but it needs to percolate in my mind more if i ever do write it. thx for asking!

1. Coffee shop AU: Who is the barista, and who frequents the coffee shop?

- Both could be both sides but ultimately I see Jughead as the barista who thinks this girl who frequents the coffee shop is super cute but doesn’t think she’d ever like him, and after, like, two weeks she realizes and writes her number on the receipt.

2. Highschool/College AU: Who is the straight-A student, and who’s the backrow slacker?

- Veronica is the straight A student, Jughead is the backrow slacker. But not because he’s bad at school or anything, he just pays better attention when he’s drawing and his teacher doesn’t understand that and automatically assumes he’s a bad student. Or he is and Veronica has to tutor him because fanfic <3

3. Rivals to loves AU: Who takes their rivalry seriously, and who is half in it just to push the other’s buttons?

- Veronica takes it seriously, Jughead mostly just goes along with it to push Veronica’s buttons.

4. Enemies to lovers AU: Which one switches sides?

- Veronica is the first one to yell out her feelings when they’re having a screaming match, she realizes that she doesn’t actually hate him like a week before and it’s been on her mind since. Or maybe the other way around but Veronica is more intuitive than Jughead… so... :D

5. Soulmate AU: Who is eager to meet their soulmate? Who absolutely does not want to meet their soulmate?

- Veronica is eager to meet her soulmate, Jughead is not.

6. Single parent AU: Which one is the single parent? (Alt. if they’re both single parents: Which one is open to starting a new relationship from the start? Which one is never planning on finding love again… Until they meet the other and are instantly smitten?)

- (Both but) Jughead would be the single parent, and if they’re both the single parents, Jughead would be open to starting a new relationship from the start. Veronica would be hesitant about finding love again because her ex left her at one of the biggest times in her life and isn’t sure if some guy with a kid, a responsibility of his own, will stay.

7. Doctor AU: Which one is the longsuffering doctor? Which one is the patient?

-  Jughead is the doctor, Veronica is the patient.

8. Bodyguard AU: Who is the bodyguard? Who are they protecting? Which one is secretly pining for the other?

- Jughead is the bodyguard, Veronica’s the one he’s protecting, and he doesn’t know she’s pinning for him which is why she places herself in dangerous situations a lot so they can have those close patch up fic moments in hopes it’ll go her way 👀

9. Pirate AU: Who is the pirate? Who is the member of the royal family who did not sign up for this?

- I like the idea of both being able to fit both roles but there’s a fic of Jughead being the pirate and Veronica being a part of the royal family who may or may not have signed up for this (I think) so like 👀👀

10. Childhood best friends AU: Which one was super obviously in love with the other the whole time? Who was oblivious until they were older?

- Jughead is obviously in love with her, but Veronica didn’t realize until they were older because she thought their thing was being flirty until one day they got super drunk at one of Cheryl’s parties and Jughead started to confess and stopped himself.

I wasn’t sure if this could count as headcanons but I know there’s probably no other posts like this so I’ll count it lol. Taken from this post.

Also, this is like a story, so its not really something you can play on shuffle lol. They just hold each other after that.

Veronica props herself on her elbow to face him (they were laying down before)

Jughead sees her widened eyes. “Y-you don’t have to say it back, I know its ha-“

“I love you too, Jug”

You and I-

Montage of working at Pop’s for summer, ending with a jam sesh in Jughead’s trailer- Veronica just in his shirt and Jughead just in his sweats. FP comes in, surprised to see Veronica, but welcomes her easily. FP and Veronica bond, and he embarrasses Jug with some baby photos. While Jug’s probably beet-red, he can’t help but completely oggle at Veronica- happy that they don’t have to hide from his dad anymore.

Start a Riot-

Jeronica send a little message to Hiram through security cameras (they just make out lmao), showing that he can’t keep them apart. They then proceed to trash Hiram’s jingle jangle lab. :)

Moon River-

Slow dancing after having been crowned homecoming King and Queen. And of course, because Veronica is 1/2 of this relationship- this becomes their song.

“That’s us.”

“What do you mean?” Veronica asks, confused.

“The two drifters in the song. ‘Two drifters, off to see the world.’ That’s us”

Veronica’s eyes start to gloss.

“I absolutely love that. And you.”

Teenagers-

Being the badass power couple they are, being 100% team Serpent against the Bulldogs during the riots. Its all one long shot too- no cuts :))

A Sunday Kind of Love-

Looking at each other in slow motion (wow- I really love putting stuff in slow motion) when Veronica is officially named Serpent queen, they’re absolutely smitten with each other. Cut to them dancing in the Wyrm to the song, discussing how they’re going to make their big debut as Riverdale’s resident power couple… second to Choni of course.

“So… now that I’m your queen, I was thinking had a debut of sorts. Just to educate the public of this new order.” Veronica jabs, only kind of joking.

Jughead laughs, but it sounds more of a huff.

“Could you settle for a hand-in-hand entrance at school? Or would you be more comfortable with a red carpet event?”

Glory-

Veronica and Jughead walking into school as Serpent Royalty with matching Serpent jackets- no special colours thank you very much. You can bet your ass its in slow motion.

Worlds Apart-

Veronica crying at Jughead’s bed-side after the Ghoulies fuck him up.

Boss Bitch-

Veronica gets revenge on the Ghoulies and Penny Peabody with the help of the female Serpents, the River vixens, Hermione, Betty, and Alice.

Le Symbolique-

Veronica and Jughead reunite from his state of unconsciousness, this whole sequence is in slow motion, with a lot of white lighting/glare. Jughead almost died and just that thought alone KILLED Veronica.

“Jug I was so scared-“

“Shush Ronnie, let me look at you.” His teary eyes trace over Veronica’s face with a beaming smile, before he brings his girlfriend closer and kisses the top of her forehead.

Harmony Hall- 

Some core four bliss before it gets chaotic again, with a side of Jeronica and Barchie cuddles.

Not Your Barbie Girl-

A River vixen performance, Jughead is so fricken in love with Ronnie right now cuz she’s just RADIATING empowerment.

Therefore I Am- 

Jeronica sends Hiram to jail again after a bomb ass one liner from Veronica:

“Mija, you have no idea what you’re doing.”

“Only one thing’s false in that sentence Hiram, I’m not your Mija anymore.”

The core four hang out at pops and promise to have fun this senior year, Jughead steals Veronica’s cherry from her milkshake, but being so vulnerable to Midget’s (He calls her Midget. Yup.) puppy dog eyes, he makes it up to her by sharing his fries.

“You look like an angel right now- with your hair like a halo and how much you’re smiling.”

Veronica laughs

“Well it’s your fault I’m smiling you idiot.” Her voice softens towards the end of the sentence.

“I love you too, Ron.”

Party at Stonewall, Jeronica are absolutely WASTED. Fun fact- Jughead get’s really into PDA when he’s drunk

Oh shit… I guess Jughead is dead now. (dw, Betty’s still the one who “kills him”)

Just kidding, he’s alive, and he and Veronica have a really cute moment in the bunker. Veronica starts reading his novel, per his request, and he just starts playing this on the record player and she smiles but her eyes are still on the book. He just kind of watches her, and when she starts beaming at the book he can’t help but kiss her right there. Then they just cuddle and little bit, Veronica on Jug’s lap, reading the book some more.

Girls Like GIrls-

Veronica has to prove Jughead is dead, so she and Betty kinda sorta… make out. Like, a lot. Betty is dating Archie at this point, and he’s the one who gets “mad”. But basically Betty and Veronica end up making out again cuz they spot Donna watching them. Veronica is a bi con, and Betty might be too but everyones in denial so *shrugs*.

Dream Lover-

(Time skip, because I’m lazy) Jughead’s alive again, sadly, his spot at NYU was taken by well, Veronica. Luckily, after pulling some strings, she surprises Jug with a full-ride acceptance letter from NYU starting second semester.

Magic Moments-

Yay! Prom! Barchie gets crowned king and queen (Beronica was kind of forgotten about, but thats fine, because we’re here for Jeronica first). While Betty and Archie are totally lost in each other, Jughead and Veronica are just kind of joking around on the side. While it’s Barchie’s moment, Jeronica is still looking pretty damn cute rn. Also, this becomes Barchie’s song!!

Oxford comma-

The song comes through the speaker at prom, Jughead invites Veronica to dance. As they sway, they gaze at one another like they’re seeing one another for the first time, to the song that started it all.

(varchie) teenage dreams (chapter 5) by @softvxrchie: a little spicy, fun, teen drabble where archie and veronica experiment flavored condoms. *

(multi) tell me i’m real by lauren_is_a_moron: i just skimmed through this one but i actually want to read it. it’s not very shippy but it’s one crazy maze runner like au where the actors (kj, cami, lili, cole) are actually stuck as their characters in experiment lol it’s a crazy idea but it seems interesting and i will take my time to actually read it asap.

(bughead) the good girls (chapter 11) by lilbluednacer: one of my favorite fics right now. veronica moves to betty’s prep school when the girl is dealing with some real trauma, and it’s a fic that has a little bit of everything. betty focused! bugvarchie are endgame but it deals with some ba so be warned, but the fic is worth it. also, this author is great! i’ve read some other work from them and i love how they write.

(jeronica) barrels by @thefudge: i read jug/veronica every once in a while, it really is a guilty pleasure, and this is one of my favorite JV authors. this fic was written post 4x17 and it made me feel things. *

Chapter 4

Veronica is pulled from the files when she hears her office door open. Looking up, she’s faced with fear itself.

Nick St. Clair.

Standing up quickly, she looks around her desk to find something, anything at all that might hurt if struck by it. All she sees is the pen she was using, taking a mental note of its exact whereabouts, just in case she needs to grab it quickly.

Nick’s smile is both sickening and smooth. He saunters in slowly, fingers dancing along the walls of her office, touching everything that belongs to her. She feels a lump rising up her throat, unsure if it were just nerves, or the sensation of becoming sick.

“You’re not supposed to be here, Nick,” she says slowly, trying to find refuge behind her desk.

He puts up his hands as if in truce but he still smiles and it still doesn’t feel right. “I just wanted to say hello, Veronica, I don’t want to hurt you.”

“What are you doing here?!” she hisses, gritting her teeth.

He pauses on the other side of her desk, taking a seat on one of the office chairs. “I just thought it would be rude if I came to Riverdale and didn’t make myself known to you, you know, considering the restraining order…”

Veronica can feel him on her skin, his smug smile even when she blinks. She tries to keep the sickness from her voice, not wanting to anger him. “That’s the point of the restraining order, you’re not supposed to make yourself known to me.”

Nick chuckles, shaking his head. “Oh Veronica, you’re so funny!” he laughs manically. “I’m in town for a while, I’m working on a case with the ATF…”

She doesn’t say anything, still aware of the distance between her fingers and the pen she’s willing to plunge into his skin if necessary. “What does that have to do with me?”

“We’re going to take down the Southside Serpents. They’re going to be gone for a long, long time. So, you tell me what it has to do with you.”

Veronica thinks of Jughead. Wishing he were here now and would randomly pop into her office. She thinks about Nick’s new case and what it might mean for Jughead and the club. As much as she knows that the Serpents are no good, she can’t bear the idea of Jughead being locked up for a long time, just as Nick is promising. “Nothing,” she mutters. “It has nothing to do with me.”
