I’m liking the idea of season 3 Colin being the perfect blend of Duckie & Blane from Pretty In Pink while Penelope is similar to Andie.

Pen/Andie: A red-headed, unpopular girl whose family has money troubles. She struggles with being bullied by one particularly nasty blonde girl. She has a complex friendship with a boy she’s known for years and she’s also friends with a popular rich boy she likes.

Colin/Duckie: A sweet, charismatic and protective long-time friend of Andie. His feelings towards her are complicated and more than platonic and he struggles with them.

Colin/Blane: A handsome, rich, charming, popular guy who struggles with his sense of self/confidence and how he’s seen by the world, except when he’s with Andie.

Pretty in Pink (1986)

Very enjoyable. Molly Ringwald so watchable. I love Duckie. Like Duckie is my far better looking soulmate. What bothers me more than anything, apart from the politics of wealth and power, are that people at large don’t want Andie and Duckie together.

Some thoughts:

- One reason Andie and Duckie didn’t get together is that Molly wasn’t attracted to John Cryer. And she didn’t want to, you know, act past that. But the original ending had them together and she wasn’t having it. But Robert Downey Jr. auditioned for Duckie and she was into him so we may have had another movie. Ew, can you imagine?

- Is it just me or is there no reason to call this Pretty in Pink? The mom was always in pink. The prom dress as a reason feels like a stretch. Still unrelated to the story of the song.

- Don’t add this version of the song to your playlists, the earlier one is better.

- It’s ever so messed up that they didn’t make a Jen and the Holograms movie when Molly was the age to play Jem.

- So weird that Ellen Tigh from BSG and Gina Gershon from everything are in this.

- Another 80s movie with the Santa Monica Place!They even showed The Harald Examiner. Good times.
