Prom Night (2008)

The whole way through the movie I thought the young detective in glasses was in on it, because he creeped me out.  And then he died.  So no.

Look, this one is a bit shit, but it has Idris Elba? Who is really pre-fame at this point, right?  This was 2009.  Still fucking hot though, I mean.

Quick plot:

Brittany Snow is a high school student (yeah right), whose parents are brutally murdered by her teacher who is stalking her.  He gets locked up in a mental institution but escapes – they always escape – and comes back to murder a bunch of other people who definitely didn't deserve to die in order to get to Brittany Snow.  In the end, Idris Elba guns him the fuck down.

Here's my list of complaints:

None of the high schoolers in this movie look like teenagers.  Like, at all.

Considering Brittany Snow is supposed to be 14/15 at the start of the movie and 18 at the end – yeah, no.  She looked way older than 18 the whole movie.

I would've liked some explanation for why Jonathon Schaech went full mental and killed her whole family. The only flashback we got was a shot of him as her science teacher, and that was it.  Is it meant to be "this just happens sometimes, it's random?" or is it just shitty filmmaking?

I wanted to know why he targeted her specifically.

He has hardly any lines in this.  All he does is creep around and then stab people.

Side note – why wasn't Jonathon Schaech a bigger deal?  That Thing You Do is an excellent movie.

I feel like lives could've been saved if they'd just gotten her out of prom when they thought there might've been a problem.  Just saying. "BUT PROM!" isn't really a great excuse not to save lives. I'm sure she would've preferred her best friend to live.

Just saying.

Also how the fuck did Schaech slash the boyfriend's throat when she was in bed with him?  And no blood?  Ridiculous.
