So i adjusted the original designs ... a bit... To draw in my style means that i have to make everything extra, sorry.

Ace:

I like the base design for Ace a lot! i looked at other posts to get more context to these outfits and i say this draping billowy pants design that i liked a lot more, so I used that instead of the ones he has in the picture.

I love his cute little star crown, i think it looks dope as hell. I wanted to bring it to other parts of him too, so I gave him an arm cuff with it, too! If i had drawn the front of him, you would also see that crown design around his waist as a belt, too.

i originally had him in a pose similar to the one he has in the original, but after i sketched out the other two poses i found he looked a little two flat, so i brought his hand out to the foreground.

I like the choice for his hair to gradient out to look like a comet! I had a lot of trouble trying to make it look Just Right, but i think I nailed it

Luffy:

I didn't change much about his design, I really just made him a little more yellow than he was before. Its hard to improve an already banger design. He's my ethereal silly guy...

I really love the idea of Luffy's scars looking like gold, that's really cool.

I wish I could've added that cold crown he has around his head, but i didn't know how to without it looking sloppy so i had to leave it out.

Sabo:

I changed so much about Sabo's design, i would like to send out a formal apology for it, I admit I went a little too ham. I had already completed the picture before i went back to look at the original post and saw the comments about how Sabo was supposed to look... discreet...... I... Did Not Make Him Discreet. In The Slightest. :DDD ehe

I needed help for Sabo's pose because i was having so much trouble with the hand, i called upon my good website friend JustSketchMe to get it right. I had this idea for the pose because i wanted the claw to look like a crescent moon, I think it looks pretty good.

I would've given him normal snakebite piercings too but i felt that the ring piercings looked more Crescent-like, so i went with that.

Moon belt. i want that moon belt. I have no outfits it would go with. but i still want it.

I love Sabo's whispies that he has in the original design, but when I put them in the art i had, it cluttered up the piece too much and I had to get rid of them. A moment of silence for the fallen whispies...

Noticing now I forgot Sabo's Cane..... oops.

General:

I shaded Luffy to be lighted by the sun, Sabo the moon, but i made Ace be the light for himself. There's some deep meaning to that, but I cant think of one right now.

I had a lot of fun drawing this, i hope i was failthful enough to the original designs even though i changed everything a lot :)

Drinking game: take a shot everytime I used the word "I", take a double shot each time i forgot to capitalize it, too. You will be Dead by the end of the post, though.

Little Holiday Sneak Peek! Finally have the time to work on it and I'm so SO happy that I get to draw all four boys together in a normal scene. The amount of banter I've had to cut back to make this special not last forever is ridiculous. They're just so silly even in an apocalypse. ...I need to get faster at drawing them though if I'm ever going to complete this.

This is also a final reminder to anyone interested in creating a cover for the DTIYS Cover Contest! It's technically due on November 19th (though I'm in one of the last time zones so you could probably give it to me on the 20th with no problem haha). Also feel free to ask for a time extension if it helps. I'm going to need some time to review them all anyways!

My shot at @abbeyofcyn’s CTIYS!

Fun fact this is actually my first time ever doing something like this (or even posting art in general) and I might have gone a bit overboard with it. I coloured it twice because I had two ideas wanted to try both. My finger needs rest and I can’t fathom that Ibis is telling me that I spent 16-nearly-17 hours on this lol. But! I’m happy I did. This was so much fun to do! I only recently started with digital art and I decided to try and do new things with this. Who knew shading could be so enjoyable? I also found it very entertaining to try and shove as many small details as I can into this (an example being in the first one, Donnie’s bags (?) actually being Leo’s (he has them in the show :] ) that he *cough* borrowed to store interesting things he finds in the apocalypse).

ANYWAYS ENOUGH YAPPING HERE IT IS!

First one (what I call my normal attempt): “Gold”

(I actually forgot that his mechanical arm is green too and only realised it when I was late into the second one lol) I wanted to emphasise with the colours that they are still in the apocalypse, but it’s but brighter with those you care for. They’re the most valuable thing in the world, and hence, Gold! I also wanted to try doing a golden hour scene and MAN did I struggle. But, I’m proud of it :)

Small trigger warning! The next one contains a bit of blood and implied death.

Second one (Angst tehe): “Hollow peace”

(MY QUALITY NOOOOO-) This was actually my first thought on the CTIYS before I changed my mind and started on the other. I had the thought that maybe Leo “failed”, losing them in some recent battle and now is just chilling with their ghosts and ow that hurts saying aloud. They stumble upon a new area, and it’s so peaceful and beautiful, but Leo can’t enjoy it. He wouldn’t even know how to. He can’t remember how to feel, how to think beyond ‘survive’. He’s failed everyone and everything. He cries without knowing for what. He’s a husk caring for the hauntings of his kids, they’re the only thing keeping him alive. And as long as they’re still here, still smiling at him despite him being a monster and failing them, he still has a purpose. He will live on.

Wow I talk a lot. Anyways go follow @abbeyofcyn they’re super cool and post amazing art. They inspire me so much on so many different levels and I am very happy to be able to do this. Rad person with stunning fanart and stories.

Jesse finds an oasis in the form of a mossy rock—hidden deep enough in the forest to be granted some privacy, but open enough to allow himself to catch his breath. A sigh of relief falls from his lips as he sinks onto the makeshift seat, the taut grip around his naginata loosening as he relaxes. It's annoying, being unable to shift his weapon's form as he's otherwise used to, but with magic—ahem, potions—being so...difficult to come by, let alone keep, he can't afford to spare a drop on mere convenience. Not right now, anyway.

His mind races, still trying to make sense of this bewildering fairy-tale world he's found himself in. You'd think a man who'd already mastered magic wouldn't have so much trouble adjusting to a place dictated by such, but the discovery of so many friends and loved ones stuck under a spell has him rattled, scared, and his already frail confidence is flaking away with each revelation.

...and the only other truly friendly face had been that of a stranger. One who claimed to be in the same situation.

The stranger had easily gifted the out-of-place Jesse with a fantastical yet highly comfortable garb, working brilliantly to allow himself to blend in with the rest of this spellbound world. Yet, even in this new scenario, Jesse can't resist giving the ensemble a few...personal touches when he can. He can't help his inner fashionista.

He exchanged the lower half's drapery for a pair of equally flowy pants, strictly just for comfort's sake. He managed to haggle a trade for new shoes to replace his already worn-down boots. He stumbled upon a tailor selling accessories that spoke to him: a silky bow and sparkling cape that take him back to his magician days, a long glittering sash reminiscent of his time as a ninja, armor fastened by a keepsake compass turned brooch...

And finally, Jesse had happened across a pink camellia blooming on the roadside, a flower especially special him, and wove it into his brim of his hat.

All little things to remind him that the home he remembered hadn't been just some dream.

Jesse pulls from his thoughts before he can get caught up in the past. He moves to check over the potions he's gathered so far, having just picked them off the pockets of some less reputable-looking individuals, leading to his rather frenzied forest retreat. He's managed to snag a red, a black, a blue, and a white—so far so good, but the green he'd been looking for seems like it'll be an extra challenge to obtain, along with the even more elusive yet much more familiar glittering fuchsia...

...that being said, he ensures he keeps the one pink bottle he does possess plenty safe, in case he finds himself in need of a truly dire miracle. Perhaps, should he find another pink potion to spare, he can experiment with mixing it with the others, maybe invoking some of the effects and tricks he'd been crafty with before...if it doesn't blow up in his face. Or get him busted.

Still, those are fanciful, hopeful thoughts. Nothing more. He knows not where he's going, or how to get there, or what he'll do when he does. Or, if anything's going to be close to "his" normal ever again.

But he needs no mere potion to truly possess the Element of Surprise, for as long as he keeps his secret under wraps in his travels and plays his cards just right, it will always be with him—and, at the end of all things, the Overlord's not going to know what hit him.

Soooo if you've made this far, this is my entry for @general-yasur's DTIYS! Congrats on the milestone, and thanks for the awesome opportunity!! I...honestly couldn't wait to jump on it and now we are here, haha.

Anywho, if the blurb above wasn't enough description, here's more mad rambling thoughts on the design of my sweet boy:

Sketch + Color Blocking-

SO I was super mega excited to see this outfit because so many of the design elements Jesse already had in his main outfits would transfer over really well!

Jesse Marvell, Stage Magician by day and Fuchsia Ninja by night, is the Elemental Master of Surprise! Physically equivalent to magic essentially, he tends to channel his element through other elements to make it manifest, rather than harness the element itself—hence his interest in potentially mixing the potions, buuuut he'd also probably be way too nervous to actually try unless he was super desperate. Using a Surprise potion by itself I imagine would yield some unpredictable results, even for him...Jesse would probably have to relearn to use his powers ;w;

His weapon is called the Magician's Naginata! It's powered by Blue Crystals at both ends, and by charging the crystals with his element (making them pink), he's able to change the weapon's shape, making it easier to carry, using it as a prop in magic shows, or making it more effective for whatever battle situation he finds himself in (which usually consists of him splitting it in two or simply putting another blade on the opposite end). But while in the Spellbound world, his weapon is stuck in its base form, unless he wants to waste precious amounts of Surprise potion...

Now, outfit stuff!! Like I said, a lot of the fun was mixing and matching design elements he already had into this new form! And I'm think I'm really digging the new color combo :O

Hat: Takes the color and flower from the magician outfit! Thought about adding the fuchsia band too but it was overtaking the aesthetic a bit. Balanced this by making the drapery of the hat sparkle instead!

Cape: Also taken from the magician outfit, made the original cape's end more zigzag as well to reflect this. And added the sparkles on the inside, naturally.

Armor + Gloves: Reflective of both designs, very natural translation! (Fingerless gloves always a plus).

Robe: ...now this is where it gets interesting, cuz obviously my gut instinct was to do the neutral pink, buuut I had talked in the past about shifting more white into his design (as already seen with the magician outfit), so I used this an an opportunity to test it out! And I love it a lot! It's like...breathable to look at in a way I can't explain lmao

Waist Flap Thing: Taken right from the ninja design. I couldn't NOT do it.

Pants: Kind of reminiscent of the ninja outfit, but while Jesse would have no problems with, say, a short skirt, a longer one would definitely impede his movement way too much, with how much of an off-kilter klutz he can sometimes be. Thus, more comfort with the pants.

Shoes: Yeah I had no idea what to do here, but the design reminded me of Japanese wooden sandals (called Geta? correct me if I'm wrong please I just did a quick google—) and I thought going for a shape like that would look nice. You can't really tell the shape in the above pictures, but it's a little more apparent in the main pic's flats:

"New Snow Level"

ARRIIIGHTT so this is the short fic that'll lead onto what's heppening in my DTIYS. I wrote this for just fun at first, but then I thought that this would also be good for promoting my little event. The dtiys is linked on the bottom of this post. I'd appreciate it if you read through this first so that the art would feel much better to look at. Anyways, enjoy✨️

"Alright, Stanley. Here's the snow level that I've been working on for the past few weeks"

William simply stood in one place as his surroundings changed to that of a town that was in winter. The floating Hand beside him seems nonchalant. He looked up and saw that Devin had made the time settings to nighttime. A gust of wind flew by him and it sent chills down his spine, literally.

"Ah, apologize. Here's your new winter model"

Another Hand appeared and it made a quick snap! to equip Will's warm clothing. William rubbed his head, and noticed that he was wearing a beanie now. Looking down, he took a keen interest to his new outfit. The scarf was soft and cozy and his new jacket was warm and comfy.

"William, I'd like for you to take a look on the surroundings. Tell me your thoughts on this new area"

"[Not unless you join me first]"

"What?"

Devin was... taken aback by this request. Sure he had taken a look on his own creations himself, but rarely does he ever walk through the place in person. Normally he'd just summon a Hand and lets it become like somewhat of a drone with a camera on it.

"William, you know that's not necessary" The Hand that eas beside William looked annoyed with its one eye that conveyed his emotion.

"[Then I'm not going to take a look]"

"William."

Devin was getting annoyed.

"William, go and take a look around"

"[No]"

William crossed his arms and looked away.

Devin raised his fist, but refrains himself from slamming it onto his desk.

"You want me to join? Then fine."

A doorway appeared and the Narrator stepped out.

"There, I'm here. Happy now?"

"[Hmm... you're not wearing the proper clothing]"

Devin sneered in annoyance. But well, he can't do anything to the guy whom he loved is the only one who can play test his creations.

"Sigh... Fine, give me a moment"

He turned around and several yellow hologramic screens popped up around him. It looked like he was picking some clothing. A few moments later, he snapped one of his modded Hands and his clothes changed to that befitting of a winter setting.

"There, are you satisfied?"

"[Juuust one more thing]"

Devin grumbled in annoyance. "What is it now?"

"[Hold my hand as we go]"

"What?"

Devin looked at him, confused.

"[You heard me, hold my hand. And then I'll go. Well, we]"

He reached out his arm for him to grab.

"Sigh... Alright, alright"

Reluctantly, he took the offer. Thank god he gave himself a black face mask that covered half of his face. He could feel his face turn orange.

"Could we go now?"

"[Yes]"

William views himself to be quite victorious as he made a satisfied smile.

100 Followers DTIYS!

for my first DTIYS, I have redrawn/redesigned some very old OCs

they're all cat-like creatures and the universe is named purrfectly impurrfect because around 10-year-old me really liked puns just like around 20-year-old me.

so for the DTIYS, you could design your own cat from Perfect Valley following these guidelines:

they have normal house cat eye colours I forgot to mention. and/or you could draw one of the guys below!

I'm quite curious but how long does drawing usually take for you? Let's say for a tarot card for example?

Depends on how lazy in depth I want to go with it. Fully rendered stuff with glow and shading and effects and all the stops can take up to 2-3 days (if not a week, time permitting), but a quick doodle/sketch for an ask or something only takes an hour or so. On average a “usual” piece of mine doesn’t normally take more than 6-8 hours (unless it’s really detailed, like pieces for DTIYS or scenes with multiple people), but that’s cuz I’ve learned how to cheat the system :P

(but yeah most of the Timelapses I have saved are around 7 hours for the whole process)

Drawing/sketching by itself varies. Everything I do is initially drawn by hand, and while sometimes I can nail a sketch, like, right away, other times I can spend hours trying to get it up to snuff, or I only finish it like halfway and just touch it up digitally instead to attempt to save some time. Just depends on the piece, my mood, and the time on my hands snksnk

For the tarot cards specifically, ahhh…I’d put them around 6-8 hours each, so around my usual time, but the simpler ones like Jesse’s and Nya’s took less than that, while more complicated ones like Jay, Dareth, Lloyd/the FSM, took several days. I’ll consider it a sign of trying to improve each time, haha.

The initial sketch takes an hour or two, the cleaned sketch + lineart can take up to four (mainly cuz I have a shorter attention span during this part), and coloring, again, depends on the specific piece but can usually be done in a few hours too.

But also, with the tarot cards, part of the reason I made it a year-long project to begin with was to ensure that I would have enough time to make them mostly the best they could be! If I had attempted them all at once or back-to-back I probably would’ve given up, so I’m really glad I can say I’m almost done!!

🌍 - Which nation do you find to be the truest adaptation of their real life counterpart?

I got a bunch of anonymous asks all at once, so I'm presuming they're from the same person. I'm gonna answer all of the ones they submitted that I haven't answered yet all at once. I also apologize in advance for any typos or grammatical errors I've not caught???? My cat keeps getting in my way and stepping on my keyboard

🌍 - Which nation do you find to be the truest adaptation of their real life counterpart?

I literally don't have the authority to speak on any of the characters other than Alfred and Amelia. It's not my place to talk about the accuracy of a character whose culture I am not a part of. I do know that Scandanavian fans are very passionate about rewriting the Nordics better to their cultures

I think Alfred is. Fine. I used to not care about him but now I've come around to him and he's probably the one I talk about most.

I have a lot of justified reservations and criticisms about my real life country. I'm very pessimistic about my country and am not patriotic in the slightest. I've had a lot of international friends before and I can think of two separate people who've praised me for being "not like other Americans" and bashing other Americans, calling them stupid, and other choice words and holding me on a pedestal. It made me very uncomfortable. What's that even supposed to mean??? I felt like I had to act a certain way for them to continue approving of me. We're no longer friends for completely separate reasons to what I just mentioned, but those people were in my life at separate times.

So anyway, canon Alfred is fine. When I write for him I really like to lay heavy on my East Coast experiences and biases (cough Pizza snob Alfred). Alfred is East Coast and Amelia is West Coast.

👑 - Which nation has the most appealing design?

We know this one already. Y'all have seen me unapologetically be Not Normal about Norway in the tags. He's just so pretty to me, I'm sorry. It's really just the hair and the blue/purple color scheme

👕 - Which nation's military uniform(s) do you like the most?

None of them. I won't draw anyone in military uniforms unless it's for DTIYS challenges or memes like this one

💥 - If you could take a character, tear them down, and rebuild them to your liking, who would you choose?

Probably the Nordics just from how I've seen Scandanavians talk about their countries?

I also feel like a lot of the heta girls deserve more beef to their characters. A lot of them feel like accessories to the male characters and I love when we get to see them hanging out (Hungary, Ukraine, and Liechtenstein in The Beautiful World) or having conflicts of their own (Liechtenstein and Czechia in World Stars). Arguably I think Hungary has the most development, but even then she's so tied to Austria and Prussia in both canon and fanon. If I'm wrong on this PLEASE point me towards some good food

My latest project, when I...probably should have been working on other things whoops: a custom Funko figure of a cyberpunk Loki. violincat3000 on Instagram was doing a DTIYS for the fanart shown above, and I thought, okay, I don't actually know how to draw, but I do still have the vast majority of that bin of Star Wars action figures I got free from a professor 10+ years ago that I've been dipping into for custom fodder ever since, so I'm almost positive I could make a custom figure of some kind instead. and then as usual I kept putting it off because I do that and also I thought it would be pretty easy, and I did it all at the absolute last minute, and it took way longer than I expected, as most things do. (I mean, part of that is probably because I ended up watching literally all of The Essex Serpent while finishing it, so I kept getting distracted, but also I’m very bad about underestimating the time it takes to do things. Which is why this took most of two days instead of a few hours and also why I was up until 3 am the night I finished. OOPS.) The head (Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park, minus glasses) and body (Officer K from Blade Runner 2049) were leftovers from earlier customs, with some repainting. The little green flame was repainted fire from a leftover Liz Sherman body. Most of the bits making up Loki’s headset/implants were from a big bag of random Star Wars stuff, also with some repainting, because I wanted something to suggest Loki’s horns. I made the big green visor from scratch out of a soda bottle, a wide gold twist tie, and the innards of a busted keyboard. (It’s terrible. This is why I never throw things away: every so often, I find a great use for them and then my magpie tendencies just get reinforced.) And then I cut down and repainted one of several spare scepters from cheap 3.75-inch Loki figures I got specifically for customizing purposes—I usually don’t like that the scepter is so closely associated with Loki because it’s something Thanos gave him and it was as much a leash as a weapon, but repainted like this I’m just gonna say it’s a totally normal setting-appropriate short sword of some kind that just happens to resemble the scepter. It's kind of hard to tell because it mostly looks reflective rather than gold, but I stuck some gold foil on the bottom of his coat, leftovers from a lunar module kit I made when I was like 10. (I don't have the model anymore, but I did save some of the leftover bits for exactly this kind of purpose, and this isn't the first time I've used some of them. Like I said, magpie. Or packrat, or hoarder.) The props around him are also from the Star Wars stash. now I just gotta…hope the super glue holds 😅

Asking a handful of creators:

Do you save things that, for one reason or another, you never ended up posting? I always love seeing scrapped WIPs / deleted scenes / etc, and was just curious!

Honestly, I don't have many. I'm weird where I either draw something and decided it's not worth pursuing 5 minutes later and trash it, or I see it to completion regardless of how long it takes. There is no in-between for me.

The only true WIPs I have are usually DTIYS that never got finished because I missed the due dates... sorry about that >< I suppose I can post some of those here (click on to see full views since Tumblr is weird and cutting them off):

Hello! Non-Queued post! (what a World! what a World!)

Happy May, my friends! I am busy at work, doing practice exams - and somehow, doing well? (ish!) I have passed a few of my mocks, and I am honestly in shock! I am a most massive failure, my friends, and I always just think, no matter how hard I try, I will always fail. Because I am not allowed to be happy. But. I did it! I have passed at least one practice! Me! I did that! Me! Huzzah! Me! Steph!

It's my birthday next week - I will be 19! It would be exciting, but I do not my birthday! I have had most traumatic things happen to me on my birthday, so. I don't like it. I also have no plans, it's like my family has forgotten! Oh well! If they've forgotten, then it's not like they can hurt me next Tuesday, can they! Well. Probably! They find a way! Getting older when you haven't achieved a single thing in your life is also very demotivating! Like! Other people finished school, they have friends, they go out, get shitfaced, they don't starve themselves, and they can just go out and order coffee by themselves like it's nothing! Gah! I wish that was me! Why not me? Why can't I be normal? I want to be a real 19 year old! I don't want to be me!

But! But! But! Anyway!

Because next week will be hard, I thought perhaps, I could do something fun. My options are limited, because exams! Exams! Exams! Gah! Existential horror!

But I would like to have something to look forward to. My first thought was, maybe I could draw Bunny or something lovely, or even host a DTIYS or something! But. I have just 33 followers, who am I kidding! A DTIYS? with under 50 followers? Think again, you scrub!

SO I am Quite Stuck! Quite Stuck indeed! Oh! Did I tell you guys I am making a Muppet for an art project? oh, last week was so hard.

But I am stuck! So, maybe you guys have some ideas? What can I do to celebrate my birthday? I am hard at work trying to finish writing requests too, you know! I'm not being lazy, I Swear!

Yes. I need ideas. Inspiration. I would host my little Shuu event next week but oh, exams, so much to do, so much. Overwhelmed. Terribly so.

Please let me know if u guys have anything fun for me to perhaps do for my birthday. At least so it will not be terrible. I think it is such a pretty day. Imagine, being lucky enough to be born on May 9th! Isn't that a pretty birthday? I should be lucky, and yet! All i can think about is how offensive it is that something as wretched as me was born on such a pretty day. Maybe that is why I am so unlucky! Bad! Bad Steph, how dare you, ugly little you, be born on something so pretty. Ew! Ew! Ew!

Yes. Anyway. I am rambling. I have an English mock exam today. English! I am somehow not good at English! I'm a so-called writer, a so-called British person, and yet! English sucks for me! I can't answer questions the way they want. Not very autism friendly, these questions. Oh well. I need to go.

Please do tell me if anyone has any ideas for my birthday. I am ok. I am so scared of it being bad. Birthdays are my fear. Birthdayphobia. Is that such a thing?

That is a rather flattering assumption, my dear, but I believe I've proven to have a horrible track record in answering asks, and where is the fun in sending such nice asks to someone who will just hoard them and then feel too ashamed to answer months late? ^^; Anyway, thank you very much for this askl! ❤️ And while it is a bit mean to make me pick favourite(s) from my children, I'm only gonna pick one here (not even my biggest recent fave), because I want to talk about it and show off some details.

I thought about picking my recent cowboys DTIYS redraw, because that would illustrate pretty well the direction where my art inevitably seems to be going (and the one time where Cobb's face didn't fight me like it was his job - and returned to the old normal of Din giving me grief lol) BUT, then I remembered that I filled my (so far) last Desert Witch!Cobb AU drawing with quite a few details, and I want to show them off and talk about them a little. So here we go:

I wanted to showcase the colour palette I predominantly used in all my pieces for the Monster Mash drawings - I'll admit that I'm not very confident in my colours, so Procreate's feature of generating colour palettes for me from already existing photos is an absolute godsend, otherwise I'd be stuck with my purples and pink-oranges for eternity. I had to add the blue for a bit of contrast though, but by the third drawing I really enjoyed the warmth of these bright oranges and reddish browns. They added to a nice and cozy feeling while I was freezing and huddling close to my little electric heater.

Plus this is a good shot to point out all the shinies dangling from Cobb (he's now got a mythosaur pendant with dangling beads for the teeth(?)), and the tattoo on his arm I had an awful lot of fun with! Something's clicked in my brain and now it's permanently stuck on pairing Cobb with suns and moons imagery (mostly the moons, because A) Din is the one who is shiny and blinding and hurtful to look at when he's fully decked out in his armour, and B) I find the dichotomy of the deadly sharp points and curve of a crescent moon vs the gentle face of a full moon very fitting for our Marshal here). So he's got two crescent moons on the underside of his forearm and elbow, and a third one on the right side of his neck. And there is also a sun on the curve of his shoulder, behind the sharp-toothed skull (because I gave in and finally put a sun on him after you all somehow kept seeing it on him - although it still eludes me how you managed that ^^;). He had another one on his right shoulder as well, but well. Glass doesn't take all that well to tattooing, does it? He's also got a lot of swooping cloud and smoke shapes to match his eternally billowing robes and the sand-storms that hide in his pockets.

And now to the fun part of the chaos that the background was:

I really wanted to put an absolute mess of a workbench behind Cobb, and I tried my best to deliver it - then forgot to take into consideration how much of it he'd block out with his shoulders XD and so I filled it with books, datapads and candles, little notes and jars and vials and a real fancy scale that I tried to model after the krayt dragon. And then once I realized how many of those details got covered up, in my infinite wisdom I erased everything instead of just masking them out so that I wouldn't even be tempted to somehow work them back into the picture... so I had to take these snapshots from my process video (hence the poor screenshot quality, sorry ^^;) but this way you can also see how I used those box shapes to try and keep even the otherwise circular/organic shapes of the flowers and pots (and cauldrons omg, were those a struggle!) in perspective. I think that was a neat little trick.

It was really challenging, and I cursed myself a lot for the angle I picked for this picture, but in the end it was very rewarding to see that while I never thought I'd ever be able to pull off a detailed background, I still managed to do this here!
