Kel’s One Year Anniversary + 2.5k Celebration!

First of all, I just wanna say thank you so much for 2,500 followers!! It blows my mind that that many people follow me!!

I originally had this celebration planned for my one year anniversary (April 16th) but I didn’t expect to hit 2.5k so soon! So I decided to tie both milestones into this celebration!

The third season of The Mandalorian ended days after I posted my first fic. That was such a special time in my life and I look back on it so fondly, thinking of the community I found and the meaningful friendships I’ve made. So on that date I’ll be posting the first chapter of my new Din series, Stonecatcher - coming 4/16/24

The Spreadsheet Digest - Fic Recs | Vol 7

Howdy, folks! It's time for this week's recap of what I read :)

As always, you can find the spreadsheet here, and you're always more than welcome to tag me in your fic if you'd like to be included. New and old fics both appreciated; anything from a drabble to a 400k word series is fine; and the only Pedro boy I don't really read is Pero Tovar.

I really really love how this story is going. The little town is so real to me and I love all the little places we get to see. The bookstore sounds like a DREAM. And I can't wait for Reader to bond with D over art ahhhhh.

Stitches a Din series by @djarinsbeskar

This fic is so fucking good dude. I love the set up for the whole thing and the reader character is really fuckin' cool. The like... 8 consecutive parts of incredible smut that continues to be genuinely interesting and really fucking hot even after like 200K words is extremely impressive. I'm also pretty sucked into the story and the way Medic is being interwoven into canon. Oh and the introspection we get from Din's POV is *chef's kiss*.... anyway pls god finish this story i need it

Adira, I fall in love with every single little world you create without fail. This is obviously no exception. Your sheep ranch is a dream. I’m currently not watching anything new, but AM going through a book phase??? (Haven’t finished a book in years, so thank you audiobooks and also probably Vyvanse?) Also I’m pretty sure some came from a rec post here???

I’d say that all of these books have:

- a focus on found family (!!!!)

- an angsty/whumpable male main character

- some hurt/comfort for said mc

- fantasy/magic with (imo) good world building

and are NOT driven by romance (anything that is there is side-plot), and do not include graphic sexual content (or, at least, it was insignificant enough for me to ignore it - same goes for the listed tropes, really - I was able to read with my fav trope blinders on, which doesn’t mean other stuff wasn’t there, but I can’t say that for every book)

1. Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom (Kaz)

2. A Darker Shade of Magic/A Gathering of Shadows (Kell)

3. Dark Rise/Dark Heir (Will)

4. Sword Catcher (Kel)

(Why do they all have single syllable names mostly starting with K and ending with L?)

ANYWAY highly recommend (in order, from 1-4), and would love to know if you (or any followers) have recs for fic (of the above) OR other books that check the boxes (esp if heavy on the comfort!!)

BLESS YOU!!!! I love getting book recs especially fantasy books with little sex/romance!!! That's super rare nowadays so I thank you! I recently finished reading both Fourth Wing and Iron Flame and loved them both (despite them being very romance heavy I found that I didn't mind it at all and really enjoyed the world and the story) and now I'm eager for some more fantasy books to read. Thank you for the recs!! I'll go give them a look!

This is a fic I've wanted to recommend for a long time, but never got around to posting about it.

Title: Basketball Therapy

Author: Kel

Word Count: 48k

X-Libris Description: Set shortly before Tithonus, this story explores life in the bullpen, where tedium and background checks are the order of the day. When Scully gets drawn into an investigation at a Maryland hospital, Mulder gets trapped in a deadly hostage situation.

Didn't Mulder seem relaxed and well-adjusted in Tithonus? How was that possible? Why wasn't he out looking for alien colonists, fighting the future? Read on; it will be revealed.

My thoughts: After I read Basketball Therapy, this easily became one of my favorite fics. While I love a good slow-burn, first time fic, this story excels at established relationship Mulder and Scully. They seem so comfortable with each other and every scene really demonstrates how much they enjoy each other's company. There's lots of funny moments (if you've read the fic, "gazebo" will mean something to you). The case file is good, too, but I just really loved seeing Mulder and Scully together as a couple, relatively angst-free. And yes, Mulder and Scully do play basketball.

11- Share one of your favorite whumpy scenes that you have written.

That would go to a WIP, but for what I've posted...this scene, where Reed first wakes up post-rescue and is very, very suspicious -- and very very helpless. Same with this one about Annette and Kel

The WIP is about a villain's henchman who is "gifted" a bound and battered hero to use and abuse by supervillain. But henchman doesn't want to hurt hero; she's actually started to turn against supervillain. Now henchman and her broken, terrified "gift" must pretend to go along with it all while henchman secretly finds a way to escape.

12- What is one of the strangest things you have had to research for your whumpy writing?

Everything to do with saturation diving for this one fic about a captured mer whumpee. Very cool, would def recommend watching some videos on it!

13- What is the most recent thing you have researched for use in your whumpy writing?

Gory medical pictures for art references :D

Edit: here's the resulting drawing -- it's not nearly as gory as I imagined it, but I have limited art abilities 😭 I call it "Wait A Second, Bones Aren't Supposed To Bend Like That"

You're back, Mari by Anonymous. i hope you all expected this one. this is the mentioned one on no.17. im not sure how many trigger warnings i need considering this entire fic is so infamous i'd be shocked if someone didn't know. i don't want to risk spoiling it so just look at the tags. i was debating putting the sequel on here but decided against it. after all, the absolutely visceral reaction the pursuit au can garner from the fandom after just being mentioned probably has enough potential for a case study.

I was tagged by @mahapdi to share 5 WIPs and sheesh, I had no idea I had so many—anyway, these are the top 5 that are most developed and some even started. So here ya go, yo. (If you like any of these, feel free to say something or I dunno.)

1. One Last Time: it’s a JeanMarco fic (7 chapters) where Jean makes a terrible choice 20 years after the battle of Trost (aka Marco’s death) and is thrusted back in time to a few months before doomsday. He’s given one chance (and two rules) to have a restart. Already have the plan for this one, a prologue, and a Chapter 1. I hold JeanMarco very close to my heart. Highly debating whether I’ll post it to ao3 or not, because unlike my other fics, updates won’t be regular and would probably come every blue moon because writing about them makes me break down in tears.

2. Ship In A Bottle: this is an ASL (mostly Sabo and Luffy because, y’know, Ace is dead) short story (5 chapters) going over the two brothers and how the handle the loss and grief of Ace (both separately and together) as they plan a day to visit Ace’s grave together. (Yes the title is based off of the song by fin, I really recommend listening to it.)

3. You’re In The Stars: not a fanfic but just a full on Stygian/Kel’s original idea. It’s about this girl named Elizabeth Nelson (Liz) who gets an internship as NASA and falls in love with the human personification of a dying star named Danika. It’s planned to be a whopping 15 chapters and only 2 are written but the whole plot is planned out. (Based off of the song In The Stars by Benson Boone.)

4. Gods Of The Wild: also not a fanfic but kinda? I mean, it’s Greek/Roman and Celtic mythology. It follows the reincarnation of Paris of Troy and the Celtic God of the Wild, Cernunnos, and an ongoing war between the Celts and Greek/Romans. Only have 3 chapters written, but whole plot planned out. (I wanted to major in mythology studies for the longest time yet could never find a good college that had that as a major so…heh, creative writing it is.)

5. ILY: A Roronoa Zoro fanfic/short story (1 chapter) about Zoro breaking out of his comfort zone and telling the Straw-Hat pirates he loves them, one by one. Just fluff. Pure fluff (with some subtle angst added in there but c’mon, I can’t just NOT have some angst.) (also subtle ZoLu.)

5. Oooh this is a tough one simply because there are so many good TES blogs out there! I want to recomment @katastronoot because of the lovely traditional art, and @the-sunlit-earth because Rat Talvas ❤️ and they leave the kindest comments when reblogging other's art. I actually won't name any more simply because I will absolutely go nuts and list off every single blog that I follow and I don't want this to be an epic length novel of a post 😂

13. Yeah I am gonna recommend my own, actually! I really enjoy fics that detail the hero's life after they've fulfilled their destiny as well as OCs that are ex-criminals. There isn't enough of that out there so I took it upon myself to write both themes in my series Birdsong.

22. Calling out @mareenavee because you gathered so many fic writers in such a short time and brought us all together to share and encourage each other. Also mad props to you for being able to wrangle the entire server full of us, you deserve an award!!

23. I think I answered this in a previous ask but @elfinismsarts was the first tesblr I interacted with. Her annual event 25 Days of TES Cheer got me involved in fandom participation, and her fic series Between the Ashes and Fire was my first dive into Skyrim longfics and reading it greatly inspired me to write and share my own. On top of all that she had turned out to be an amazing friend. So thanks, Kel! ❤️
