Aw, thanks for asking, @edwardallenpoe! Lessee... 1. Springtime in New York. Check out these tulips in Central Park's Shakespeare Garden:
Tumblr media
2. New movies. I'm going to see Abigail tomorrow. Should be fun.
3. Paprika-caraway kielbasa soup, which I like to enhance by replacing some of the chicken broth with leftover Japanese ramen broth. Amazing stuff, as long as you're into Eastern European flavors.
Tumblr media
4. People you already knew were talented in one artistic medium revealing they're just as talented in a whole other medium.
5. The unofficial "free stuff" spot on the window sill in the hallway of my apartment building, and the hint of childlike excitement it gives to taking the stairs. But really, when would I have ever bought hamentashen again for myself, or tried Panera sourdough sandwich bread? And on the other hand, whatever happened to the sunglasses I left on the sill some time ago, I hope they're being enjoyed.

What are some of your favorite foods?
Well, I’m a little spoiled in that where I am has a massive and extremely varied population of immigrants and families descended from immigrants who came across the Pacific from various Asian countries. So my town in particular has a lot of Chinese, Japanese, and Indian restaurants. (A LOT of Indian, which is awesome) And the city right next to us has even more.
Anyway, like many people I’m a biiiiiiig fan of sushi and other Japanese foods (besides the expected ‘sushi and ramen’) I’ve also been able to explore various other Asian fares because of the diversity here, so I’m definitely a sucker for most of them. (though I haven’t had Vietnamese food yet).
That aside, I’m a BIG BIG BIG fan of Polish food, thanks to my dad’s side of the family. Pierogi, kielbasa, kiszka, and gołąbki especially is SOOOOO good. The church my dad goes to is smack dab in the heart of a town massively settled in by Polish immigrants, and so there’s a lot of good authentic food there. At least with the citizens, if not a deli or two.
I’m really not one to shy away from most foods. I love exploring culinary tastes of any kind, and I’m glad to try new things. I do, naturally, end up falling back to more immediately familiar things like “American” fare, Mexican food, and other such stuff.
-----
Thanks, anon! And by the by, I very highly recommend having Polish food if you get the chance. Apparently Krakow was voted the number one culinary spot in Europe? I forget the dealio, but it’s rad!

it’s nine in the morning and I just ate toast with butter and peanutbutter and a glass of mountain dew PLUS a mug of shitty tea and an orange 5 hours ago but I’m starving and gonna make some pork flavored ramen + kielbasa sausages and some frozen corn RIGHT NOW because that’s how I feed my depressed ass and it takes a total of 10 minutes

So....I accidentally poisoned my whole family last night...
Not sure what it was. I made that Dirty Rice Stuffing/Dressing that foodffs posted a week or so ago. It was absolutely delicious and I fully recommend if you like dirty rice. But something in it didn’t agree with all 3 of our stomachs. I was in the bathroom for an hour and only got out at first cuse mom was having the same issues (the problem with having 1 bathroom in a house with 3 adults). I was curled up trying not to hurl all evening and dashing to the bathroom every hour or so all night. @^@
Nothing in the recipe had spoiled or anything. I used Kielbasa which was already pre-cooked, so it wasn’t undercooked meat. Dad thinks it had too much sodium in it but I live off top ramen most days so it shouldn’t have bothered me.
Buh. Who knows. In any case, I wont be making it again no matter how good it tasted. >.<

José Andrés and his World Central Kitchen are feeding people fleeing Ukraine
José Andrés and his World Central Kitchen are feeding people fleeing Ukraine
Nate Mook, the group’s chief executive, on Monday described a chaotic scene and freezing temperatures at the border crossings in Poland, where he was helping to marshal an “ad hoc” group of volunteers. In the few days since the invasion began, upending life for Ukrainians fleeing the Russian forces, Mook had seen a group of farmers handing out eggs and kielbasa along a road. A ramen food truck…

Yesterday I made budae jjigae (army base stew) for dinner. It’s fairly simple!
Ingredients
6 Cups of Dashi Stock (Boil 3 anchovies, 1 shiitake, 1 kelp for 20 min or more)
1/2 Cup of Sliced Old Kimchi (if not available, mince 8 garlic cloves, 1 tbsp gochujang, 1 tbsp gochugaru, 1/2 tbsp soy sauce, with 1 tbsp water)
Season to taste with Fish Sauce, Salt, and Black Pepper
1/2 Block of Spam sliced square
1/2 Link of Kielbasa Sausage sliced
2 Blocks of Ramen (throw away or keep seasoning for a rainy day)
3 Green Onions cut long and down the middle
Handful of desired cheese
1 cup of sliced rice cakes
Method
Bring dashi stock to boil, stir in the sauce, kimchi and season to taste using fish sauce, salt and black pepper. Bring to a rolling boil.
Place in sliced meats, ramen, green onions, rice cakes, and top with cheese.
Boil for 6-8 minutes.
Serve in a bowl or eat out of the pot! If serving in bowl, remove ramen first, then add toppings, then broth. Enjoy.
