#kimi deserves better

I have so many thoughts on why this is a horrible idea and not enough words to properly describe it.

The age regulations were put into place for a reason — just because Toto Wolff is obsessed with finding the next Max Verstappen does not mean that Kimi Antonelli should be granted an exception that will only serve to rush his development.

The fact of the matter is that only Max Verstappen is Max Verstappen … forcing Kimi into a struggling Williams team with barely any time in Formula 2 under his belt after completely skipping Formula 3 will only serve to hurt him.

Kimi Antonelli deserves time to develop. He deserves time to at least finish a feeder series season before being thrown straight from the frying pan into the fire. There are very few cases in which rushing young athletes does not ultimately cause more harm than good.

On the other side of the coin, dropping Logan Sargeant (and doing so in the middle of the season) has the potential to massively hurt Williams from a business standpoint. They are finally in a trajectory to recover financially after years of struggle thanks in large part to the many American sponsors who ended up signing thanks to — you guessed it — them having an American driver in Logan Sargeant. This comes at a time when Williams has already taken numerous hits to its image throughout the earlier races of the season. Considering Formula 1 is just as much about business as it is about what actually happens on the track, I would be concerned about the repercussions that such a move could have.

Now, on to Logan Sargeant himself. It is no secret that he is far from the best driver on the grid, but improving performance requires support from your team, something that has unfortunately been quite spotty to start the season despite the pretty words James Vowles often spins. Logan has been given the short end of the stick race after race after race at a crucial time for his development, the opposite of what any driver that has to prove themselves needs at such a point in their career.

Last, but certainly not least, James Vowles famously said that he is not looking to turn Williams into a “mini-Mercedes” … but is that not exactly what dropping a driver from Williams’ own development program in favor of doing Toto Wolff’s bidding would mean for the team? Williams has no hope of moving away from being viewed as Mercedes’ B-team if their actions directly counteract these words.

I’m sure there is so much more I should say about this, but I hope I managed to adequately explain why I think Williams dropping Logan Sargeant in favor of Kimi Antonelli in the middle of the season has a lot of potential to backfire for all involved.

First we had the rumors of Kimi Antonelli going to Williams, replacing Logan Sargeant as soon as Imola.

Quite frankly, this makes absolutely zero sense. How on Earth can the Cratchit’s of the F1 world right now afford the boy people are proclaiming is “the next Max Verstappen”? They couldn’t afford a spare chassis for the first five races let alone a whole driver swap.

Secondly, Williams failed Logan in bringing him up to F1 too early, that is a fact that I believe James himself has admitted (though don’t quote me on that). So say they do, hypothetically, bring Kimi up it would just show that they have learned absolutely nothing. It would have meant that Kimi would be doomed to fail.

Kimi is not ready. It’s as simple as that. He’s skipped F3, had three races in an F2 level car so is only just finding his feet. Never mind the fact he is only 17, a literal child. There are so many voices trying to put him down because he is not winning every race in F2 yet who totally forget these things. He has quite literally went from the baby pool with armbands only to have them taken off him and pushed in the deep end with the instructor saying “now swim!”.

I have every faith in him that maybe, come next season he might be ready for F1. Maybe in 2026. That’s ok too, he’s young, he has time. Putting him in the hardest car on the grid to drive is stupid.

Logan’s made mistakes yet, but he is again in a car which is extremely hard to drive. He deserves the second chance Williams claimed to have given him, I am yet to see that chance. I hope he will get a point at his home race just to throw it in Williams’ face.

So no, I don’t believe this rumor.

I'vd a question. I am new to f1, but have seen many key races and moments in the past. I am a Ferrari fan. Why didn't you get the same predestined feeling of Charles for Alonso and Seb.

Like for Alonso I can speculate because he was a Senna fan, which auyomatically pushes him more into the Mclaren camp.

But why not Seb?

it wasn't really about seb but more the state of the ferrari team at that time. like i said i did have that feeling for seb a few times and it was usually when things would go his way and the team felt like it was on his side and they were building it around him.

i mean i am a seb fan and a ferrari fan so throughout all those years i really did want it to work so that they would win the championship but while seb was completely committed it never really felt that ferrari was fully committed to him. and that's usually what i think for a lot of fans gives the "predestined feeling" as you called it.

when charles arrived at ferrari in those two seasons with seb as his teammate you could feel they were committed to charles and now with fred here and openly talking about building the team around charles that feeling is back.

i do sometimes feel like had seb had someone else but ferrari's last champion as his teammate the situation could've been different but i cannot take those years back nor change them. i'm just hoping that they are once again fully committed to charles and it will stay that way until he wins a championship/s with them because i don't think i can go through all that again 🫠🫠

guys can i be real for a second? Because as a fan of both Logan and Kimi i feel like this needs to be said:

Nobody benefits from giving Logan Kimi’s seat mid year.

No One

No not even Kimi.

If F1 is a business which it is, we’ll think about this in a business sense. Because by kicking Logan out in favor of Kimi just doesn’t make sense

Williams saw the sheer backlash to Australia. Their fans were angry at the mere idea of kicking Logan out in favor of Alex and some are still angry. They would lose a huge portion of their fan base (a fan base that is getting pretty American, may I add, thanks to their American sponsors) by kicking Logan out. No fanbase means no merch sales, no extra cash to burn that we know Williams needs

Secondly, Logan has obligations with Williams through summer break. Huge PR events like Lap of Legends which is sponsored by an American beer and stars Logan and Williams Racing ambassador Jenson Button. If you pull away Logan, the sponsors in Michelob Ultra will be furious as they funded a whole project to center around Logan. And Jenson, who has also spoken very kindly about him in the media will be angry as Logan is known as someone who has his backing/support. So Williams would lose a bit of Jenson’s trust and anger a huge sponsor? Right okay,

Of course there’s James Vowles. Who is struggling to come out from under Toto Wolff’s shadow. How will it look for James if he were to kick out one of his own juniors in favor of someone Toto Wolff is forcing upon him. Like he’s a lapdog who will roll over and do whatever Toto wants? Yeah, that exactly

There’s also the Prema of it all, which a lot of people are forgetting. Kimi is under Prema contract to be racing in F2. There is no reservist for him and there has to be to drivers in F2. Not one. Prema is not going to let one of their drivers—a driver who is getting them a lot of media attention might I add—go on to F1 when he’s only done three f2 races. That’s not how contracts work! Kimi is on contract and that contract states he had to race in f2 and compete in the championship. The whole championship. The championship Prema gets more money/funding/sponsors from the better they do. They can’t do good with only one driver. So no extra money.

Also, Prema has the power to deny Williams as Kimi is their driver and their responsibility. Kimi uses their trainers, engineers, gym, facilities etc, to take him mid season might make Williams or Mercedes or Kimi himself liable for that bill à là Oscar Piastri and Alpine as Kimi failed to fulfill terms of a contract while still benefiting from it.

I’m not saying it’ll work but I’m saying there’s a chance they could.

Now Kimi himself. He’d be entering in the F1 paddock as a pariah. Being granted an exception is sure to make him unpopular, just like Max was. The spotlight that was on Ollie Bearman in Jeddah? Yeah multiply it by a hundred and you’ll get somewhere close to the attention on Kimi. As previously established, PR-wise Williams would be in hell, who do you think they are going to take it out on? Yeah, the seventeen year old who has no control over the situation. He’ll be traipsed around as the new youngest whoever while also being hated on by a majority of people who think he doesn’t deserve that seat.

Speaking of Ollie Bearman. It’s worth noting that Ollie’s pain level after Jeddah was sky high. He was training for f2 races, not f1. Consistently racing in F1 could wreck Kimi’s body due to the sudden change and would have so many negative and lasting affects.

And when he inevitably doesn’t get points on debut because it’s a williams and it sucks ass, everyone will be screaming and crying about how Kimi is washed or how he sucks and so on and so on. What would that do to a seventeen year old’s confidence?

And when Toto wolff—the only guy presumed to benefit at all from this whole situation he allegedly cooked up gets reveals to have had a huge part in this kid’s life, way bigger than the general audience knows (seriously, he has a picture of baby Kimi in his office) everyone is going to be screaming at him for making a bad/questionable managerial decision that has deeply affected the mental health of a teen boy.

Mercedes as a team is already on the decline, this would be the Shitty PR move to end all Shitty PR moves.

Am i saying Logan is going to be on the grid next year? No. But the idea that it is a smart decision for any of the teams or drivers involved to replace Logan is insane.

What do they think?! Do they know he's just trying his best? He always does his best and all they do is being pain in the ass.

"Mikä vitsi" he angrily said and tossed his helmet with gloves on the table with loud thud. /what a joke/

You watched him, knowing that underneath his tough and angry exterior, he was feeling a lot of pressure. Leaning against the doorway, you spoke softly, "They'll always want more, Kimi. But you know your worth. You're a champion and they should have known that too."

He scoffed, his frustration evident. "Tell that to them." he muttered, his Finnish accent thick with irritation. "All they want is better performance, like I don't do that."

He was hard on himself because everyone else was hard on him too. Only you were kind and loving to him.

He put his head in his hands and sighed a little. You didn't like how they were treating him, he deserves better and both of you know it. More importantly, he knew it.

But you also knew that he would do anything to win. To be a winner, to stand on the top with a trophy above his head, as champagne drips from his red race suit.

"You don't have to prove anything to anyone, you know?" you reassured him, stepping closer and then sitting next to him on the sofa. "You did great for me Kimi." You kissed his side of the head and took his hands into yours.

"One day you will tell them all about yourself" you spoke as you looked into his icy eyes. "You just have to hold on a little bit longer."

"Rakastan sinua lumihiutale." Kimi slowly whispered. He lowered his head closer to yours and captured your lips into his, kissing you softly. /I love you snowflake/

"I love you too Kimi.”

I forgot I was scrolling through a prompt list to help with my writers block and this fic was inspired by the age gap prompt list by @dumplingsjinson

When Kimi told you that he needed to talk you didn’t think it would go like this. The second he told you it wasn’t going to work out your heart sank

“So you’d fuck me and do everything with me people in relationships would do with each other but you can’t admit that you’re in love with me? Just because I’m a little younger than you?” You yelled hurt and upset

“People are going to think badly of you and me if we end up together. It’s our careers on the line, and I can’t do that to us.” Kimi said

“I don’t care about our careers! I just want to be with you and so what if you’re older than me. We’re both adults and that’s what should matter. I want to make this work!” You yell at him

He looks into your eyes and sighs “I don’t want people saying things about us behind our backs. I don’t want to be known as the old perv that was dating the pretty and young girl. How do you not see that? That’s what people would think of me.”

You roll your eyes “Who cares what others think if we’re in love?”

“I’d care… it would hurt me if people were talking like that about us. We can be friends but we can’t publicly be together. The press would have a field day if this gets out and no one would understand.” He responds

“Then why did you get involved with me in the first place? Do you like playing with people's feelings? How long did you plan on sleeping with me until you decided things couldn’t go any further than you originally intended!” You yell again, your voice growing louder and louder with each word that leaves your mouth.

“It wasn’t like that, I promise. I never planned on this happening, but I fell for you and I fell hard. If there was any other way I’d be with you right now, but there isn’t. We would only get judged more if we were to get married or something. I don't want that kind of life for myself or you.” He says, trying to reason with you. He can see that you are angry and he feels terrible.

“So you are just going to walk away from this? Do you really think that I’ll go back to being friends with you after being hurt like this? I thought you loved me but turns out it wasn’t that kind of love.”

Your voice grows more frantic and your eyes start to tear up you turn away so he doesn’t see you cry.

“Look I know you’re hurt but you have to understand that this isn’t what I wanted. I love you, but I love you enough to let you find someone closer to your age. It isn’t fair for either of us. I want the best for you.”

You continue to ignore him while you feel your entire world getting shattered around you.

“I hate you” you said looking at him

“Please don’t say that…” his voice trembles with sadness “we might not be able to be together but we can remain friends, we were already friends before we even got involved romantically.”

“Just go please” you said

“Ok…” he looks at you one more time. He sees the sadness in your eyes, it breaks his heart, but he still walks away. You watch him as he leaves hoping he would say anything else to make this night a little bit easier but it doesn’t happen. He leaves without looking back.
