Inked Devotion

this request was fun! i really didn't know what to make the tattoo so i left it a blank slate for whatever you wanna imagine, hope that's okay!

Your eyes dart across the tall walls lined with inked models and men in dark beards nervously. You can't shake the tension that seems to imprint itself under your skin, your knees jittering with a rapid tap against the linoleum floors. 

When you had brought up wanting to get a tattoo, a half joking mutter under your breath as you traced the many littered on Carmen’s body you hadn’t anticipated to actually go through with it. 

And yet here you were, shaking like a leaf despite the diffuser jutting out whisper of eucalyptus that was meant to be calming. Whilst Monica, a woman you'd meant a handful of times ran through the list of after care necessities you should be listening to.

You can’t though, you don’t hear a thing as you stare unseeingly through the dark auburn tresses of her short hair, wrapped up in the thoughts that have begun to eat away at the already dwindling confidence you had when you first walked in. 

“Hey, you still with me darlin’' Monica's Brooklyn drawl draws you back to her, and you duck your head sheepishly as you nod furiously. Like a goddamn high schooler getting caught looking out the window instead of listening to Hemingway.

Monica smiles toward you, humouring warmth filling her pale skin that, surprising to you, were incredibly stark of tattoos. In fact, if it weren’t for the posters taped to the walls, the black and white tiled floor, and the ominous tattoo bench in the corner you would have thought you walked it not the wrong place. It was stereotypical of you, and you had been a loud advocate for not judging a book by its cover, but goddamn, what tattoo parlour had potted plants and candles that smell like cinnamon?

“Sorry, uh, what did you say?” 

“It’ll be alright, the pain really does depend on each person but Larry here will catch you if you faint on my tattoo bed” Monica winks with a smile, and you shift your gaze to the man stationed unmoving near some marked drawers, the mass of muscle hidden beneath dark jeans and a shirt bursting out of him.

It wasn’t the pain you were worried about, you had period cramps that sounded worse than that, it was more so the prospect of having your virgin skin imprinted with something forever. You had never done something like this, teenage recklessness had passed you by without a blink, and you had little to show for it but carved words on your old dresser from a knife and a dark eyeshadow phase that lasted less than a month. 

It was a little pathetic, getting your first tattoo eons after any respectable age, and your trepidation seems blatantly clear as Monica shakes her head with a smile.

“Many people get their firsts well into adulthood, did I tell you about my last appointment? A 52 year old woman wanting a goddamn tramp stamp.”

You can't help but let a giggle out, the unsureness leaving you at Monica’s words

“You still want this right?’ Monica replies, and you shift your gaze to Carmen, who was already watching you fondly, his eyes sparkling with excitement as he pushes his golden strands back and gives you a nod

“It’s all up yo you gorgeous, if your having second thoughts there is a really good Thai place i wanted to che-” 

“No, no I want this”  You cut him off, and he chuckles softly, “Besides we already designed the stencil and everything” Carmen nods at that, placing his large palm onto your own, squeezing it with reassurance.

“Damn right we did, thinkin it's my best work yet” Monica chirps from the other side of the bed between you.

“Alright, just sit on that bed down there, get settles while I grab some things” 

You nod, walking stiffly towards the leather bed, tissue paper crinkly under your weight as you shift into a comfortable position. Your eyes follow Monica like a laser, watching as she santises her hands and slides on powdered sterile gloves. 

It reminds you of days spent in Dentists chairs, visions of rubbery fingers tightening wires into your teeth flashes behind the darkness of your lids. Funny, you had worried about your lack of experimental youth, and yet here you are now feeling like a kid again.

The thought makes you smile, and you open your eyes to feel the heated gaze of Carmen looming over you. Face distorting in horror when Monica’s tool makes a clatter, eyes widening comically in that way that always makes you laugh.

“Alright Doll, I’m just gonna need you to sit up for me whilst I get the skin prepped. Alcohols gonna feel a little cold to the touch, kay?” Monica says.

All you can do is nod as she rips open the matte packet, pressing it into your open skin shaved clean per her request a few prior. Who knew how much prep a tattoo would need, you were sure it was on par with even one of Carm’s dishes.

Unfortunately for you the only numbing cream useful for tattoos had something that would have made you break out in hives, so it was cold turkey for you. Monica had transformed the design into a stencil, and as she was transferring it into your skin it seemed to come to life all at once. 

You had spent hours going over designs, and whilst you were extremely happy with what you both came up with, it was like when the lines and shapes had traced your skin, you finally saw it. And the moment you did you couldn't stop the wave of emotion that rushed through you, filling your eyes.

“Hey, baby, hey what is it” Carmen rushed urgently, crouching down when he noticed the way you sniffled.

“Awe doll, you don’t like the design? I’ll change it in a flash, this is just the stencil it aint permanent at all” Monica quickly stopped, looking up at you with concern

“No no, I’m fine” You squeezed Carmen “It’s so, it's beautiful Monica” You rushed out, trying to ease the lines of concern that appeared on her face. Monica bloomed at your reply, fondness heating her cheeks as she traced your skin comfortingly.

“Thank you” You whispered to her as she shushed you.

“At least we got the crying bit over and done with, it might hurt less now” She winked, before reaching for her tattoo gun.

“Ah shit” You grunted, shooting daggers Carmen's way when he snorted out loud.

Returning to your skin, Monica pressed the pointed tip of the gun to your skin, the first sink of ink burrowed into your skin causing you to clench your jaw. 

Monica looked up to watch your expression with a smile,

“See, ain't too bad” Carmen replied before you gripped him white knuckled, making him wince regrettably.

It took some time, you won’t lie to yourself that is fucking hurt. But soon enough the sharp stab had resided to a dull ache, and you instead had become all too focused on the movement of Monica's hand swaying through the strokes of the design. 

You were in awe, she breathed her being into it, and as the design took inches and inches of your skin you understood why she was booked out for months. With one last intricate curl, and a wipe of cleansing soap across the inked skin it was finished. Revealed to both you and Carmen's eyes in all its glory, and you both just stared.

“God, now I wish my first was as good as that instead of wonky stick and poke” Carmen said after a pregnant silence had passed.

“It..wow, yeah. Yep, I want to be buried with this” You said softly, giddiness erupting in your body as you shook your hand grasped in Carmens.

“I’m glad doll, I mean this is meant to be professional but goddamn does your skin just take it. Fuckin’ gorgeous” Monica replied, leaning back as she places the gun on the table near.

“Hey, I'll report you to HR” Carmen bitterly replies, moving you closer to his side as you laugh.

“It’s my business, I am HR” Muttering under her breath as she rolls her eyes. Wrapping your skin in adhesive sheets, Monica repeats the after care instructions, thankfully and this time you listen.

Carmen had already grabbed your things, motioning for you to start heading out after you both furiously thanked Monica for everything. You crinkled with joy as she hugged you, breathing in the smell of old spice and medical grade rubbing alcohol that followed her. 

Her studded rings glistened in the afternoon sun as she waved you both goodbye, as you couldn't help but skip in your stride across the sidewalk. Finger tracing the raised blotted skin, whilst your other hand hung onto Carmen as he twirled you around.

“My gorgeous ink stained sweetheart” Carmen called to you, and you were brought back to his chest gently like a tide again.

“Thank you too, you know” You said into Carmen's cotton shirt. It was the one you got him after your first date, it had been a deep cobalt then. You regretted it just as you gave it to him, fearing you were being too forward. And then he wore it until it faded into a light blue.

“Wouldn't even have this forever on me if you hadn't been the one to bring it up again” You replied softly, fingers tracing his jaw.

“Would have spent a year learning how to tattoo myself if you wanted me too. Monica just seemed quicker” Carmen mumbled before you softly hit his chest with a smile.

“Hey, it’s true. Your skin deserves to be remembered, I could trace it till my fingers atrophied and I’d still have the memory of you under my skin memorised” Carmen divulged, eyelids drooping as he leaned down into your embrace. 

You shake your head, heart panging so deeply it hurt till you pressed your lips to his. Tasting the outpour of Carmen that he let loose into you everyday.

And Carmen had stayed true to his words weeks later when it had healed, tracing it till his fingers weren't enough. Till he had to wrap his mouth around it and taste it with his tongue.

He swears even your inked skin tasted sweet.

Her number. So Nick thinks it's a girl. Well, Harry can't blame him: 'Lou' is kind of an androgynous nickname. His stylist's name is Lou.

But this Lou, well, Louis, he's kind of, really, really not a girl. He's really pretty though, which, is something.

People want to get on Alicent and call her a whore for showing her feet to Larry's but see Rhaenyra BEGGING Daemon for a quick f*ck on the beach on the SAME DAY that his wife just got buried and call her a girl boss for it.... PATHETIC

Also it's interesting that Rhaenyra gets abandoned/left alone twice by Daemon in their supposed "romantic" scenes, he leaves her alone in a brothel (he could have easily just grabbed her and say "No! We're going home!") And on the beach where Rhaenyra wakes up alone and Daemon is watching Vhagar.

Yep, and the thing is they don’t see how saying that oh Rhaenyra is an adult, she’s in control, blah blah blah, only makes it worse because, unlike Alicent who is being blackmailed into prostituting* herself, Queenie willingly throws herself at a man who a. Abused her and continues to abuse her(see choke-gate) b. Abandons her(which is why she was so butthurt and asks him if he loved Laena because she straight up could not stand the thought of that) and c. Doesn’t really care about her a**(he wants to f*ck her daddy/wants power, but he’ll never be king and he can’t be with Viserys so she’s the next best thing. She’s still not good enough though which is why certain events take place 😏)

How her stans think this dumba** pick me is a #girlboss will never not amaze me. Her character is a bird 🦜who never learns which is why she keeps getting abandoned(which eventually gets her killed because she thinks Daemon’s a** is loyal to her🤣).

Her being abandoned twice now by Daemon could be a nice setup for future events👀 (and it's thrice if you count how Daemon was giddy planning war while she almost died giving birth to lizard 🙃)

Now before anyone says “But but but my Valaryan queen wasn’t abandoned in the books,” the Nettles’ situation(when she needs him the most Daemon chooses a girl he has only known for less than six months over his niece-wife he’s known since her birth) begs to differ🤷🏽‍♀️

Rhaenyra is literally the most pathetic woman during the Dance(chasing after d*ck that doesn’t truly want you will never not be pathetic). And as much as I love Daemon, he wasn’t worth the obsession. No man is.

*That scene was gross and unnecessary. The fact that the showrunners tried to say that this show doesn’t have any “explicit sexual violence” is a straight-up lie as evidenced by this scene and all the other “love scenes” on this show. Hell, Alicent has been sexually abused/violated in two scenes(and the fact that they cast a barely legal girl to play her for that first scene 😑). Please give this woman a break in season two(and just stop the sexual violence period because it’s too much on a show that is supposed to be more “empowering” for women than GOT).

I’m curious to see your opinions on the ROTI finale since I think Jo vs Cameron would’ve been a much better set up. They’re still brain versus brawn and Jo’s still highly intelligent so it’d force Cameron to use more of his own brawn. Plus it’d be a good callback to that “you’re crazy if you think you can win total drama without getting physical” line Jo said to Cameron back in ep2.

I was actually all for the Zoey Cameron Friendship Finale the show kept "teasing", since- as much as I like him as a character- Lightning doesn't really have much... substance? He's a fun comedic relief character, sure, but the audience doesn't really have any reason to root for him; across the series he's been shown to be callous and self-serving, he doesn't really have much character depth, and the only time we ever see him break from the almost plastic façade of Sha-Lightning is when his pops is involved.

Which is a whole different can of worms I'd love to delve into, but I'll probably have to marathon a "Lightning Moments" montage before I can really comment on his relationship with his dad.

But my ideal final two would've been Cameron and Jo, like you said.

Jo's been set up as more of an actual person than Lightning ever was, and she already had a pre-established pseudo rivalry with him before her elimination (which, I get why Lightning suddenly became super hostile towards Cameron for "stealing his win", but it kind of came out of nowhere). I think having a final two who actually respect each other is a lot more fun to watch than Cameron cowering away from Lightning for three-ish episodes before pulling an Iron Man suit out of his ass.

Not that I didn't like Lightning and Cameron's dynamic in the last episodes, though I wish Cameron had more moments where he actually stood up for himself, since that was the whole point of his character arc (which almost seemed to die with Jo's elimination, since he loses a lot of his spine once Lightning's whole animosity arc comes into play).

Cameron was actually my favourite part of the last few episodes. I like the concept behind his character, and I mostly liked how it was executed- barring some character recession in the final two episodes. He's my pathetic bubble son.

As for Zoey... I really didn't care much for her. Not that I dislike her, she's just, uh, sort of there? She spends the majority of the season oblivious to Mike's DID, but as a relatively kind and friendly presence among a cast full of comparatively bad people, which was a nice contrast! She's what I sort of expected Dawn to be, just preppier and with a miscommunication-central romance plot. Plus, her central character focus of making friends is really sweet, even if she does come across as a bit of a pick me.

And then she pulls Commando Zoey out of her ass (which I did initially like, as a 'nice girl finally snaps and goes apeshit' arc- exactly what I wanted for Priya is season two of the reboot) and her whole character does a 180 for two episodes, with the sole purpose of teaching both her and Cameron the Power Of Friendship, only to discard that whole lesson when they don't get the Friendship Finale. I wanted to like Commando Zoey but her behaviour in the Larry episode just kind of left a sour taste in my mouth; it was like the writers couldn't decide if they wanted her new disposition to make her a last minute twist antagonist or not.

Hi, love. Yeah absolutely, fandom has changed so much in this past year. My dash is basically dead every single day fjjdjd yesterday was the most active it has been in a bit and even then, it wasn’t at all what it used to be. I also feel like I’m not really here but still lurking from time to time? I just hope people that are having a hard time staying in the fandom, realize soon enough that it’s okay for them to walk away and seek joy in other activities bc it’s honestly not worth it. Fandom is supposed to be fun! A place for us to co exist and have a good laugh, make friends, get that sense of belonging.

Have you seen the Loki S2 trailer? I have no intetest in watching the season, haven't even finished the first, but I gotta say, at least it looks like they're starting to recognize his powers some more

Hey! Sorry for the long delay in answering this. I started writing a reply and then forgot to finish it.

Ngl the way I found out that there even was a S2 trailer was from receiving this ask. Had no idea before that bc I haven't been following the show content.

Idk whether they're recognizing his powers more. Trailers - especially Disney trailers - can be quite misleading. The trailers for season 1 cropped Sylvie out to make it look like the show would be more centered on Larry. Also they showed a couple senes in the S1 trailers of him using magic but in the actual show that was pretty much all there was, and in context most of those scenes made him look pathetic.

The scenes in the s2 trailer seem similar so I doubt there will be much change. (Also still not a fan of the bright green magic effect - which looks kinda cheap and fake - versus the more muted green and white color that was originally used for his magic in Avengers, TDW, and Thor 2011.)

Also. Larry still feels like Larry rather than Loki. So even if they show more magic from him it won't feel like a show about Loki sadly. I'd love to be wrong but from the trailers it feels like it will be more of the same insulting mess we got in S1.

I’m really not understanding why larries are saying Louis’ being tone deaf, nonchalant and that he “should’ve had his pr write a statement” about his tweet. Like first things first, fuck you. And second, it’s pathetic that after all the times Louis has said how much he loves his fans online, in person and especially on stage, him bending over backwards to please us and always showing his concern for his fans that they’re sitting there like hmm nope not good enough! You should’ve been out there batting the hail away, you should’ve gone to school to he a meteorologist so you’d know exactly what was happening with the weather, you should’ve done more and this tweet is pathetic and shows you don’t care. Like no matter what he does, he’ll never be good enough and they’ll never be happy. And if they think he’s not gonna come online and apologize again and apologize at the next show for what happened they’re crazy. Hey what are your thoughts to the 2 years reference in Louis and Harry's songs? Too young - "it's been two years since I have seen your face" and Hunger - " as one year turns into two I am still not over you" surely this can't be a coincidence. But the question that arises do you think they were on a time out or a break for 2 years?

Hi anon had a feeling someone would come mentioning those lines. It's all anyone has to grasp at for proof of a break up. I'm pretty sure I've explaining this before to many others but I'll explain again bc the app sucks making it hard to find any old posts.

The way harry has what we refer to as "stunt songs" or just songs where he added something to the song to allude to one of his fake gfs like the fake VM from camille in cherry well louis does the same except for him he just does a few "stunt lines" here and there so people don't realize who the songs are actually for.

In WMI there's the uni line "Meet you at your uni [...] share a single bed and tell each other what we dream about." This alludes to the song being about eleanor and their time spent together when she was at Manchester Uni [allegedly.] I do think originally the message was about L&H nights spent sharing a bed at the xfactor house and they just changed it to uni so people go 🌟 eleanor 🌟. We know thxs to the 2017 leak song snippet that louis did change lyrics so this is most likely one of them.

The line you mentioned "two years since I've see your face" from to young is a similar deal of a lyric change to allude to eleanor. My main theory is the song lyric was originally "two weeks since I've seen your face" which would line up with harry's "two weeks and I'll be home" from CM alluding to the two week theory that basically is they never went more than two weeks without seeing eachother. It would seem for at least 7 years they managed that but as harry started doing acting and louis started doing solo touring it's been harder to do so.

They probably changed two weeks to two years bc E&L had broken up for a year and some change. Yes two years is technically more but when have they ever been accurate/consistent when it came to eleanor relationship timeline? They have never even been able to keep it to one straight story on how they met or their anniversary it's pathetic.

It also logically doesn't make sense [taking the offical line at face value] that they didn't see each other for two whole years. From 2010 to 2015 they were in 1D together seeing eachother literally everyday for 7+ months. In 2016 there are pictures of L&H both at the xfactor when louis was there performing with steve plus the harry pick of him headed into the hospital and without going into sad details we can figure out why he was there.

I do personally get so upset when people bring up 2016 as "break up proof" knowing what was happening then and why L&H would have looked upset/sad then. Anyways in 2017 we had Jamaica larry with louis being pictured in Jamaica while harry is there working on HS1 [and right before the louis pics we had receipts of louis being seen on the beach with mitch it was humm but once pics came out placing louis in Jamaica it became 😳]

Plus once HS1 tour started later that year louis many times was spotted out in random cities he had no reason being at and the only thing going within the next coming days was a HS1 concert. And naturally those louis spottings were the HS1 concerts where harry was lovingly singing up to a mysterious person in the VIP box. I could go on like the sharing of vintage clothes during quarantine and HS3 being very I STILL FUCKIN LOVE YOU BABE with a very I've been commited since I was 16 vibe BUT you get the point.

Moving on to just the concept/notion of them even being able to stay away from eachother that long makes no sense. In late night talking one of the lines goes "it's only been a couple days and I miss you" and when I heard it it reminded me of those late 1D receipts of harry when going out to clubs with nick and other friends [nights when louis didn't join them] he would just get drunk and be needy complaining about missing his baby.

And of course when it came to prime 1D larry louis after seeing harry everyday for 7+ months straight and FINALLY getting to go home and see his family asked if they could invite harry's family over for the holidays bc he would miss harry. I think both have made it plenty clear they can BARELY handle a week or two apart and some think they would not see eachother for TWO YEARS. The times they did have an argument of some kind I assume one would jet off to another city stay for a couple days and than come crawling back home bc they missed their baby. Harry does seem like the dramatic type who would write a song about something like "oh I jetted off to LA for the week and couldn't handle my baby not around me."

Now as for the Hunger song lyric "as one year turns into two I'm still not over you." Side not fuckin love this song it's beautiful and I'm mad it wasn't on an album. ANYWAYS this song is kind of tricky bc it's just a leaked 1D demo harry sang so we don't technically know when it was written or by who. I DO think it was a four demo and most likely harry DID write it based on how harry's voice sounds, the emotion harry carries when singing it and the genre of the song.

I will continue my thoughts based on the notion he wrote it and it's about larry. So to me as always they were put in a shitty situation as a closeted gay couple in a MI that thinks that wouldn't sell or make them a popular artist. With Louis song WMI he talks about their younger selves and how if only their younger selves could see their older selves and how they made it and YES they are STILL madly in love louis is STILL the love of harry's life regarless of what outside people have to say about them being in love. Well I see hunger in the same light. Young harry was so insecure when it came to many things most likely one was about how he was in love with louis and "certain people" didn't agree with it.

The one year... than two... is older harry reminising on the past. Like shit we were just two young teenagers falling in love and in the blink of an eye one year passed and than two where has the time gone? And even though many years have passed since those days in the xfactor house "he [harry] is still not over you [louis]" he is still the love of his life as he always has been nothing anyone tells him will ever change that.

My biggest deal when it comes to "they broke up" is it's usually people who don't understand a thing about long term relationships and ended up making larry into something toxic where they were constantly breaking up and dating other people. Larry has made it clear that's not who they are. Did larry have issues ABSOLUTELY especially given the situation they have been put into but larry has made it very fuckin clear they didn't just pack up and leave behind the best person they ever knew.

And they certainly didn't allow those assholes who told them they wouldn't last and shouldn't even be a thing to end up being right. Louis WMI DC MV, almost all harry FL MVs show how hard they fought to make it work and escape the glum of being around those assholes and into the sunlight their SO provided.

I just don't see how would just walks away from the person they always called home and got many matching/romantic tattoos together. The tattoos will ALWAYS be the biggest deal to me bc most don't even get one matching/romantic tattoo with their SO so for larry to get as many as they did. You just don't get that many tattoos with someone unless you know without a shadow of doubt this is the one I will be with till my last breath. Point blank I don't think they officially broke up [certainly not two years] and nothing will ever change my mind on that.

That’s a great question. I’ve thought about it for a long time, but have to admit I’m quite stumped. It’s hard, because several of the ghosts died by bad habits that were incredibly hard to shake—so either they learned a very important lesson before such things killed them, or I’d be straying into very alternate versions. What a lot of them did need was better luck, or better attitudes.

Billy: I feel like Billy would have had to have grown up and gotten a normal job. Being out in the world would be when Billy finally got his lesson of sorts—finding out that the world doesn’t just go his way when he complains enough. I think he’d be kind of a loser for many years—not one that people pick on, but the kind who has a lot of ex-girlfriends he accused of “being the problem.” The truth is that he loves a sense of control. Nonetheless, maybe he’d eventually settle down and share stories about how bad of a kid he was.

Jimmy: It’d be a hard thing for Jimmy to give up gambling. It would be easiest to say he simply had better luck and never met Larry, or else successfully ran away and started a new life somewhere else (but never had an interest in marriage or anything—he liked living on the edge).

Oh yeah, and if he learned to say no to people that would help A LOT.

Royce: I think he just wanted to do what he wanted: skip the college that everyone was pressuring him into and race around in cars. i love that one behind the scenes video where louis and harry are sniping at each other, like they couldn't even take ONE video where they were looking like they were getting on, even in the one video which was silent, those two were done with each other. it was always OT3 in the background together, harry alone. even onstage they would ice each other out and harry was always off on his own, because he couldn't stand being near the others and vice versa. i think niall only went on harry's private jet because he didn't smoke, but not because they got on.

Episodyssey: The First Turnabout

So I don’t watch a lot of TV shows, which makes Episodyssey seem like a pointless waste of a review series. I thought I’d have more ideas by this point, y’know? But after the first few things I reviewed there just wasn’t anything that jumped out at me as worth talking about, and I haven’t watched more What If yet, so… yeah.

But then I had an idea. What if I talked about Ace Attorney? Each case is sort of like an episode in the wider story after all. And it’s my review show, goddamnit! I’ll do what I want! So let’s talk about the main cases of the Ace Attorney series, starting at the very start.

Since the first cases are usually pretty short (well, for the first couple games, anyway), I’ll sum up my feelings on the games as well. The first Ace Attorney is truly a classic, but much like every kickstarter of a great franchise (Crash, Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, Devil May Cry), it’s very rough around the edges. So much of what we will come to know and love the series for is here right at the start, from the quirky characters, punny names, and clever writing, but there’s only one truly amazing case in the entire game and the rest are just all over the place in terms of quality. I cut this game a lot of slack because it is the first one, and truth be told none of the cases are really bad, there was just definitely room to improve.

At any rate, they got the weakest case in the game out of the way first. “The First Turnabout” is our tutorial level, and our easing into the series. Here we are introduced to the basics of Phoenix Wright, and we get to meet series mainstays like Mia Fey, Larry Butz, Winston Payne, and the lovable old coot who presides over the trials. We’re given the world’s most simple mystery, and the absolute easiest killer in the entire series to catch. It’s simple, easy stuff that you can just slide right into.

...But it’s maybe too easy. The first game certainly has a nice difficulty slope, but the first case just feels like way too much of a softball. You can literally beat this one without pressing a single one of Frank Sahwit’s statements, he is that bad at lying. Again, though, this is the first case, the tutorial, the very first piece of Phoenix Wright material we see, so it’s hard to get really mad at this case. It’s just a really easy little trial to show you the ropes before the next two cases start to throw curveballs at you and make you put more effort into things. It’s definitely a fairly weak trial, but it’s hard to totally hate it.

And now, since every trial has a villain, it’s time for...

Psycho Analysis: Frank Sahwit

Frank here has the distinction of being one of the few killers who you actually see doing the deed in the little pre-trial cutscene, but it’s not like this is a big deal because he is one of the most blatant villains in the series. He’s honestly kind of pathetic, really.

Motivation/Goals: Frank’s just a petty criminal, really. He was out to make a quick buck, and accidentally killed Larry’s girlfriend in a panic. Not that this excuses him or makes him less pathetic, mind you, and apparently when he reappears in Ace Attorney Investigations 2 he’s an unrepentant dick so really Frank just does everything for self-serving, pathetic reasons.

Meltdown: As every villain has an epic courtroom meltdown, I’ll be detailing them here. Frank’s is rather simple: He rips off his toupee, throws it at Phoenix, froths at the mouth, and then collapses. If I were as bad at lying as Frank is, I’m pretty sure I’d react like this too.

Best Scene: His return in AAI2, where he is marginally more competent (but still a huge loser). It’s honestly amazing this dude came back at all.

Final Thoughts & Score: Look, Frank is basically just a starter villain, so I can’t judge him too hard. This is baby’s first trial,and baby needs an easy victory to feel good. That’s what Frank provides. Still… did he have to suck so hard? Did he have to take absolutely no effort? Later games would certainly rectify this, with Trials & Tribulations, Apollo Justice, and Spirit of Justice in particular featuring first cases with awesome and memorable killers who put up quite a fight and tested your knowledge. I get they were finding their footing here, but I don’t think it would have been too much to ask for a bit more of a challenge for Phoenix Wright’s first real case.

Frank’s definitely a 3/10, and I’m really being generous here. I dunno, he sucks, but in a way he’s kind of endearing with how shitty he is, you know? Just the way he moves and the way he tosses his toupee and his general faux affable demeanor, he’s kind of charming in a way. And whatever else, it’s not like he’s the worst first villain in the series.
