hi! im wondering how u feel about the reading that Atem coming back in DSOD ruins the point of his goodbye in the original manga ending
and how Kaiba's final scene with him also seemingly ruins the theme of "letting the dead pass on and moving on" cuz seemingly Yugi moves on (healthy and good!) and Kaiba doesnt (unhealthy and bad!)
i personally dont believe this but im curious what ur take is as a Kaiba head 😭😭😭
I don’t have an argument with how someone else interprets the ending of either the original series or “The Dark Side of Dimensions,” because one of the things that makes Yu-Gi-Oh! so special is that it resonates with people for different reasons.  I support people interpreting the story in the way that is most meaningful to them.  So, I’d rather focus on how I see both the series and DSoD.
The themes in Yu-Gi-Oh! that I really loved were its emphasis on the value of friendship and that it was okay to ask your friends for help, the importance of finding connection, even when it takes the form of rivalry and dueling, and the value of holding on to your life chip above all else. I loved the way Kaiba continually reexamines his own opposition to these themes and the even more destructive one that losers deserve death.  I also love the way, especially in Kaiba’s duel with Isis, the series explored both fate and the belief that it’s up to each of us to create our own destinies and I adored I how Yu-Gi-Oh! explored the effects of loss, abandonment and abuse through Kaiba and the other characters.
The theme that the dead need to move on was not the theme I was watching Yu-Gi-Oh! for, so I was much less emotionally invested in watching that theme play out as the dominant one in the Ceremonial Duel.  For me, “The Dark Side of Dimensions” was a return to the themes of friendship and the effects of loss that I loved about the original series.
While DSoD does show different models of grieving, I really like how, especially in the original subtitled movie, it is very non-judgmental, rather than dividing it into Yugi = good and Kaiba = bad.  Instead, DSoD focused on how people deal with grief.  Yugi is trying to manage his grief in a way that is most considerate for his friends – never mentioning Atem to them, even when Jounouchi encourages him to talk about it.  I think it’s worth noting that Yugi had already achieved a measure of closure through the Ceremonial Duel, something Kaiba never got to have.
In contrast, Kaiba not only fails the course in Socially Acceptable Ways to Grieve 101, he marches into the classroom, rips up the final exam and sets it on fire for good measure before turning over a table or two on his way out.  I found this really cathartic, because Kaiba was expressing the raw edge of grief and the movie treated this as real and gave even the harshness and ugliness of his feelings genuine emotional weight and validity.
I also loved that given a choice between enforcing a pop culture version of the six stages of grief and pure wish fulfillment, DSoD doubles down on the side of wish fulfillment.  In real life we must struggle our way towards acceptance of loss because there is no other option.  Here, DSoD is giving wings (or a dimensional cannon) to our own secret desires to see our lost loved ones again, even if only for the length of time it takes to duel.  I love that DSoD narratively rewards Kaiba for his desire for friendship by letting him see Atem and having Atem smile back. I honestly found that lovely, very moving and ultimately healing.
Kaiba is chasing connection through the medium of a duel throughout the movie.  And I can’t think of a more fitting ending for a Yu-Gi-Oh! movie than an affirmation that the of the power of unity is the most important thing in this – or any – dimension.

Part 11 of Yugi raises Jaden
Start - pervious
Jaden woke up on a beach. The gentle waves crashing on the shore of the island. As he looked out at the ocean he caught a glimpse of of the sky. It was full of stars and nebulas, Jupiter floating closely by.
Oh, he was back in his dreams. He didn’t know what this place was called but he felt like he did at one point. Like the name was just on the tip of his tongue but he just couldn’t recall it.
But something was different this time. His head was pillowed on top of something. Or more accurately someone as he was using their lap as a pillow and could feel their fingers carding through his hair. He turned his head to look up at the person.
It was a woman with long white hair, her bangs covering one of her eyes. Her large white hat casting shadows over her gentle face. She smiled down warmly at Jaden as the little boy pushed himself into a seated position and turned to face her.
“You’re the Silent Magician!” He said pointing at her. She smiled warmly at him and nodded before pointing over his shoulder.
Jaden turned to see what she was pointing to. Six creatures were racing towards them cheering. A strawberrry colored bird flew towards him trilling in excitement. A soft pink dolphin swam as close as it could to them splashing and squeaking at him happily. A brown larva like bug with a swirl of green on its forehead crawled up to him humming a tone that blended nicely with the bird’s trills. A light brown mole and a purple grey cat like creature dashed to him stoping just short of slamming into him as they gruffed and mewed. Bringing up the rear was a small glowing childlike creature that leaned into him and he could feel rather than hear their humming.
While the creatures looked strange he felt like he had known them all his life as they vied for his attention. He looked back at the Silent Magician, who was watching the scene with open amusement. The woman gave a gentle nod and motioned forward with her hand as if to say ‘go on.’ Jaden smiled as he and the creatures started playing together on the beach.
While there was a whole island to explore they stayed close to the water’s edge so the dolphin could play with all of them. Jaden looked back to see Silent Magician talking to a young boy. He had to be older than Jaden but his white armor with blue and red accents made it hard to place the boy’s age. But he seemed to be watching over Jaden and the other creatures fondly while talking to Silent Magician.
All was peaceful until a light flashed. The small creatures surrounded Jaden protectively. The little cat and mole’s fur standing on edge while the bird’s feathers fluffed up to make itself appear bigger than it was. Jaden took an unconscious step back away from the light. The strange older boy moved quickly to place himself between the light and Jaden’s group, his arm out stretch to keep them behind him.
But Silent Magician was calm as she stood up and gestured for them to all calm down. She recognized this magic. The light took on a golden hue as it started to turn into the shape of a man.
The tense atmosphere lessened. The creatures surrounding Jaden were still cautious but this was obviously not the monster they thought it was.
The form came into view. It was a handsome dark skinned male dressed in golden armor with a white cap and vail completing his flowing ascetic. He took in the scene of scared children in front of him. He placed his staff on the ground and kneeled. “Excuse me for the sudden intrusion. My name is Mahad, I am Pharaoh Atem’s loyal servant and a friend of Yugi Muto.” Jaden perked up at the mention of Yugi’s name.
Mahad had spotted the boy and was about to speak more when a hand landed on his shoulder. He looked up to see Silent Magician smiling down at him. “Ah it good to see you here my friend.” While he had never fought beside Silent Magician he remembered her from Yugi’s duel against Atem. He knew the duel spirit’s loyalty lied firmly with Yugi. She was a powerful sorceress and he was glad she was on their side.
Jaden watched the two spirits interact as he started to step forward. The little creatures stayed close to him, unwilling to leave his side as he approached the unknown. The older boy stayed between Jaden and the magicians but didn’t stop Jaden’s approach, staying one step ahead of him at all times.
“You know d-Yugi?” Jaden asked as he approached the kneeling Magician.
Mahad smiled at the boy. “We are old friends. He wanted me to come check on you.” Mahad didn’t know how much to reveal to the child. He had been told that the boy didn’t remember his dreams upon waking so he was unsure if the boy would know about the apparent threat coming their way.
“Why has Muto sent two of his spirits here?” The white armored boy questions. He still kept himself firmly between Jaden and the two spellcasters. While he had accepted Silent Magician’s presence he could tell that Mahad was different.
“Yugi is with my Pharaoh right now. He is unable to watch over Jaden himself so I offered to ease his worries by coming myself.” Mahad explained to Jaden’s monster spirit. He had never seen this duel spirit before, any of them honestly, they must be new creations. He was about to ask for the young spirit’s name when Jaden ducked under his arm and approached Mahad.
“Is d-Yugi okay?” The little boy asked worriedly.
Mahad smiled reassuringly at the boy. “He’s perfectly safe. He and the Pharaoh had some things to discuss and then he will return to you.” The tension that had been in Jaden seemed to ease instantly at that news.
“He’ll be home soon.” The little boy smiled up at Mahad and Silent Magician.
The armored boy, seeing as his master had decided to trust the two Magicians, had left his side momentarily to pick up the pink dolphin from the waves. The little creature had been making quite the fuss since it was unable to accompany Jaden like the others. The boy scooped the small dolphin up and brought it over to the rest of the group. The creature wiggled the whole way over, only calming when Jaden laid his palm on it’s forehead.
For a moment all was peaceful.
Then another light exploded on the beach. The brightness of it was almost blinding. And with it came a horrific shrieking sound. Jaden covered his ears and cried out as his spirits crowded around him to shield him. Mahad and Silent Magician moving into protective stances in front of the children.
The light had a cold silvery glow to it before the creature within revealed itself. Darkness enveloped the light and in front of them stood a fiend. The fiend raised their head to look at them. They had split colored hair, the right side being white and the left side being purple. Actually they seemed to be split down their whole body. Having an orange eye and feminine body on the right side and a teal eye and masculine body on the left side. The only part of them that seemed symmetrical were they dragon like wings that flared out from their back.
“Jaden how could you send me away!” The fiend shouted at the little boy taking an aggressive step forward.
Jaden took a step back. Responding in a shaky voice. “Who- who are you?” That was obviously not the right thing to say as the fiend grew more enraged.
“How could you forget me? You promised you’d never abandon me!” The fiend took another step forward.
“That’s enough!” Mahad called from his place between the little boy and the enraged spirit. “Explain yourself.” Mahad didn’t know why this Spirit was so enraged but he was starting to put the pieces together. But how could a spirit hold so much rage for a child.
The fiend snapped their head towards Mahad. “Explain myself? To you? I am his protector and guardian. You would be explaining your presence to me.” The fiend flared their wings aggressively.
“Protector? You’re terrifying him.” Mahad rebuked the idea. The Silent Magician moving to block Jaden from the fiend’s view. Both spellcasters had sworn their lives to protect their masters’. They couldn’t imagine treating Atem of Yugi the way this fiend was treating Jaden.
The fiend snarled at them. “He abandoned me! He let them send me away!” They then turned their attention to Jaden once more. “Why did you send me away? They’re hurting me!” They took another step forward and the Silent Magician brandished her wand to signal for them to back off.
“That’s enough!” Mahad argued back. “A protector does not behave this way. We accept our master’s will. If you were sent away by other people then it was not Jaden’s fault.” Mahad could understand anger at others for separating you from your master but the rage they had against Jaden was unnatural for a sworn protector to feel. Actually everything about this felt wrong. Why had a fiend appeared in a burst of light? Something wasn’t right here. The whole reality had shifted as soon as they had arrived. There was something wrong here. Something powerful at play.
But the fiend wasn’t going to give Mahad time to figure it out. “And who are you to tell me my role? Who are you to stand between me and Jaden?” They cried as they launched themselves forward. Jaden screamed as they flew forward. The white armored boy flying between Jaden and the attack.
Silent Magician attacked the fiend trying to stop the incoming attack. The fiend screamed in pain but didn’t stop. They crashed right into Silent Magician. The Magician opened her mouth in a silent scream as she shattered and returned to her card.
Mahad was shocked. This fiend had just tanked a hit form Silent Magician and destroyed her. But he couldn’t waste time processing that as Jaden screamed in terror watching the spirit Yugi had left him get destroyed. The fiend turned her attention to Jaden and the small child-like monster spirits trying to protect him. The fiend raised their hand to attack and Mahad was having none of it.
Mahad rushed forward and attacked the fiend creature. They were dark type monster spirit so his attack strength doubled. There was no way 5000 attack points wasn’t enough to silence this fiend.
“In the name of the Pharaoh I vanquish thee.” Mahad called as he struck down the fiend. They screamed in pain and staggered away from Jaden. Mahad expected victory but then the fiend stood and rushed him.
“Tell your Pharaoh you failed.” They sneered as they struck him and he felt the moment he left that reality. The last thing he heard was Jaden’s terrified scream.
He opened his eyes and found himself back in the afterlife. This wasn’t good! He had to tell Atem and Yugi immediately.
————————————————————————
Jaden watched horrified as the two protectors Yugi had sent him were swiftly defeated. the fiend stood up and looked at Jaden.
“There now were alone. Well almost.” They said sneering at the monster spirits surrounding Jaden. The boy is white armor launched himself at the fiend and all Jaden could do is scream as he watched his older friend disappear before his eyes.
He was in so much trouble here.
————————————————————————
Joey had fallen asleep after tucking Jaden in. There was only two beds in the apartment Mokuba had lead them to. Mokuba took his regular bed for himself and told them they could use Seto’s. Joey had given the bed to Jaden so that the little one could sleep well. It wasn’t the first time Joey had camped out on the floor.
He had stayed up for a bit playing games on his phone or looking over his deck. He wanted to make sure Jaden wasn’t having one of the nightmares Yugi told him about. But Jaden seemed to be fine and eventually sleep caught up to Joey.
A few hours later Jaden started to toss and turn whimpering in his sleep. Yet this didn’t rouse Joey. What did wake the blond duelist up was the bright flash of light. Joey’s eyes flew open to see what had just disturbed his rest.
There on the bed next to Jaden lay the Silent Magician card. The card was glowing as if it was trying to get Joey’s attention.
That’s when Joey heard a whimpering sound. His eyes traveled from the card to Jaden. The little boy’s face was all scrunched up and he was whimpering. Joey started to approach to wake the kid up when he started screaming and trashing.
Joey moved quickly to the boy’s side grabbing his shoulders and shaking him. “Jaden wake up! It’s not real!”
All of the commotion woke up Mokuba as the young business man jumped from his bed. “Whats happening?” He shout out over the screams.
“Jaden’s having one of his nightmares.” Joey called as he kept trying to rouse the screaming boy. “Come on buddy wake up!” He hadn’t realized just how bad these nightmares were. Yugi had told him they were violent but he hadn’t imagined this.
Finally Jaden’s eyes flew open, a scream dying in his lips. All was silent for a second, as Jaden sat there staring straight ahead.
“Jay?” Joey asked cautiously gaining the little boys attention. The little one turned his head to look at Joey. Once they landed on the blond duelist his eyes welled up with tears and he launched himself into Joey’s arms sobbing. “Whoa,” Joey said as he caught the young boy. “Hey it’s okay buddy I got you. You’re safe now. It’s over.” Joey tried his best to sooth the hysterical child in his arms, his eyes meeting Mokuba’s in a wide panic.
What was that? Why was Jaden having such terrifying night terrors?
Joey knew the reason why Yugi had come to the Kaiba brother was to see if they could find out more about Jaden’s history but, now he understood his friend’s desperation to do so. These night terrors were unbearable to witness. The absolute terror that Jaden experienced from them was heartbreaking and to see it night after night had to wreak his friend.
They sat there for a while, Joey gently soothing Jaden as the boy cried. At some point Mokuba had left and returned with a glass of water for the boy. The three of them were sitting quietly as Jaden was exhausted but unable to sleep, when Mokuba’s tablet started going haywire.
He ran and grabbed it before freezing. He dropped the tablet and ran out of the room.
“Whats wrong?” Joey called as he started to stand, Jaden still in his arms, to follow.
“It’s Seto’s vital’s! It’s stopped sending a signal!” Mokuba yelled in return, not stopping to see if Joey was following.
“What!” Joey shouted as he took off after the young tech wiz. “Now’s not the time to die rich boy.” He muttered under his breath as he ran to catch up with Mokuba. His head spinning with question. What happened to Kaiba? And would it happen to Yugi?
The little creatures that come over to Jaden are Chrysalis Chicky, Dolphin, Larva, Mole, Pantail, and Pinny. The baby versions of Jaden’s Neospacians. And the. The boy in white armor is Neos Alius which is basically a kid Neos. I wanted the Neo spacians to be protecting Jaden in his dreams but to also be kids and playmates for their young king.
Also Yubel can’t be destroyed in battle but can destroy the monster that attacks them? I know they reflect the damage to the opponent so that’s why they can’t defeat them.
Hopefully my vision came through.
Guys we are almost done with our frist arc!!!

Top 5 Jou moments (in your opinion)!!!
!!!! All of them! But these will always hold a special place in my heart.
Tumblr media
1. This entire arc is my favorite. But this! Jou knew the danger, and he told Honda to take everyone to safety and stayed there with Yugi. This quote "Yugi, I'll stay with you on the edge of the River Styx, but I won't let you cross!" Jounouchi knew how important this was for Yugi and how dangerous. Instead of forcing him out he stayed there with him. He did everything he could to keep him safe. This section really showcased Jounouchi's bravery and love he has for Yugi and his friends. It also showed his patience and understanding as well.
Tumblr media
(I had to include this panel as well!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. I had these panels in the last ask because I just love them so much. But this moment!! Jounouchi was being chased by a zombie professor who wanted to kill him. He was just pushed out a window and was still currently in danger. He looks up and sees his friend in trouble. Without a 2nd thought, he climbs up to save her. I love this moment because, again, it really just showcases Jou's altruistic nature. Jounouchi truly loves and cares deeply for his friends and for others. "Anzu! I'm HERE! Everything is going to be ALL RIGHT!" Jou, who is standing very wobbly on a building, being chased by a zombie man, who knows how much danger they're in, wants to reassure his friend. He wants her to know that he is there and he will protect her. Absolutely gets to me all the time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. The moment he returned. Absolutely an all-time favorite moment. He died. There was no brain activity. He was gone. And THEN! This stubborn boy, with the most willpower of any human, comes back to life! For Yugi/Atem! He came back because nothing was going to keep him from the people he cared about and trying his hardest to protect them. Boy met the God of Death for the 4th? Time and said no thanks, I still have shit I need to do. He is truly a cat with 9 lives. The day he finally crosses the river styx, death will be greeting him like an old friend (or be very suspicious at what bargain he'll try next).
Tumblr media
4. The moment Jounouchi beat Keith. He won, on his own. Not with "luck." Not because "someone helped him." He won on his own, against all odds. This is the moment Jounouchi's confidence in himself truly begins to change. He finally begins to believe in his abilities and who he is as a person. Absolutely love this moment and his whole duel with Keith. I have so many thoughts on it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. This whole duel, the earlier moments but ESPECIALLY, this moment lives rent free in my head forever. "Yugi, I'm sorry, and thank you." Jounouchi didn't even consider grabbing his key. He grabbed Yugi's. Then, after being dragged into the water, calmly unlocks Yugi's cuff. Jou knew he would most likely die. But he saved the person he cares so much about. The Yugi, I'm sorry, and thank you. Just. Again, the altruistic nature he has. He loves truly loves his friends, ESPECIALLY Yugi. The thank you carries so much.

Brain at work today fixated on the idea of Seto with some very complicated feelings about how things ended up going re: Gozaburo (i.e. turns out accepting the blame for the douchebag jumping out of a window fucks you up a tiny bit) and talking about it with Yugi.
Yugi, expectedly, says the soothing thing like "he could have done 100 different things and handled it a 100 different ways, he picked the permanent choice and that was on him, not you," but then busts out with the unexpected, "besides, even at your worst, you were kinder to him than I would've been," immediately after.
Seto looks at him like "what," because this is Yugi "Friendship Speeches And Heart Of The Cards And Kindness Bullshit" Muto here, and, well, even now, sometimes it's hard to pick out what in the past was from Atem and what was from Yugi.
Yugi sort of hesitates for a moment, before explaining that while, yes, the memories of That Time are still fuzzy around the edges at best, but he can connect dots and knows he ran more than a bit wild with the whole Penalty Game stuff for a while, and goes on to say that, if he was being raised by a cruel man like how Gozaburo was said to be and encouraged to let his own crueler side out more viciously, he would have made Gozaburo's life a living hell way before the window-jumping. Yugi would dig up every skeleton in that man's closet, use the man's own dead son to haunt his fucking ass, and then use Yugi's own smol cute exterior to make it look like Gozaburo was the only villain here and Yugi is just a cute, sweet little boy doing his best to survive under a cruel man who couldn't face up to his own mistakes and took the easy way out, uwu.
And in that moment, Seto is torn between being scared or impressed or maybe a little horny at the whole revelation that no, it absolutely was not all Atem running the show during all the Penalty Game stuff.

"Can't sleep, Partner?"
Yugi opens his eyes to find the spectral form of his other self, a ghost only he can see, sitting at the edge of his bed. He makes a face as he sits himself upright against the pillow. "you too, huh?"
Suddenly, the Other Yugi straightens, like a cat on high alert. Yugi's own eyes widen. "so you heard that too--"
"Shh."
Silence falls between the two, and neither moves a muscle. Then it comes again, the sound of a woman's voice calling for help. But this time, in the stillness of their bedroom, a realization hits the two of them: is isn't their ears hearing the cries, but their heart.
No sooner does that thought occur to them, the bedroom falls away, the sudden change of scenery hitting them both with whiplash as the impossible, escherian stairs of the Other Yugi's soul room surround them on all sides.
"oh," Yugi says softly as he looks around himself. "this is your...."
"Mm. Someone is in here."
Yugi's attention snaps back to the other man beside him. "in here...? in our heart???"
The Other Yugi doesn't answer. As another cry for help rings out, echoing clearly through the maze of stairs and doors, he takes off running to try and find the source. "wait up!!!" Yugi calls, running after the Other.
The two race up and down impossible stairs, throw open doors to nowhere. The Other Yugi grabs his Partner's hand as he starts to reach for a door that he already knows is no good and shakes his head, before the two run off to try another.
The search seems tireless as both Yugis race back and forth throughout the unending maze of the Other Yugi's soul room. As they meet again in the place where they started, in front of the door to the void between their rooms, Yugi looks exasperated. "i don't hear her anymore..."
The Other Yugi doesn't answer. Instead, a different, familar cry, like some kind of pokemon, catches his attention, makes him turn on his heel.
"Kuriboh--?!"
Sure enough, atop one flight of stairs, bounces the furry little fiend. Once their eyes meet, however, the furball turns, bouncing into the darkness, chirping its "kurikurii~!" the entire way.
"does kuriboh want us to follow it?!"
The question hasn't even left Yugi's lips before he's racing after his Other Self in the direction the monster had gone. The escherian staircases fall away, the expansive walls grow narrower, as Yugi realizes they're following the Kuriboh down a blank hallway now. And this... This is new. He's only been inside of his Other Self's room a few times, but it's never been anything other than those stairs and many, many doors....
His eyes widen.
The hallway ends suddenly with a single, heavy, metal door. Though Kuriboh turns to bright light and slips easily though the keyhole, the Yugis both skid to a stop.
The Other Yugi neither hesitates nor speaks as he reaches for the door's handle.
Instead of the worn, intricately carved sandstone that makes up this room, before them stretches a long hall of black and white, long shadows cast from a blinding, unknown light source. Yugi's eyes go wide and he gives the Other's hand a little squeeze. "has that always been here...?"
"No I've never seen this before," the Other Yugi confirms, voice cautious, eyes narrowed. The woman's voice calls out for help again, and his violet red eyes flash with surprise. Is that the silhouette of a girl dashing between the oversaturated trees? He returns the squeeze. "Stay close and be careful, Partner," he warns as he takes a cautious step forward.
His foot meets nothing. Unable to react in time, he pulls Yugi after him by his held hand.
The place they find themselves is... Unexpected, to say the least. They don't hit the ground, rather their descent slows until the pair are left floating, high above a large castle, surrounded by an expanse of green grass cut by a blue river below. But the serene scene is marred by a dark shadow, a massive orb of radiating darkness looming overhead. at the center of the dark sun, a single, yellow eye stares out, straight ahead at the two floating like ghosts over this new domain. As they watch, monsters, dragons, a siren, are sucked from the forests and fields below, pulled, struggling, into the abyss that hovers over them.
With wide eyes, Yugi gives his Other a glance. "wgat is that--?!"
The Other Yugi's eyebrows twitch into a tightly knit scowl. He doesn't answer immediately, until something inside his heart pulls his attention back to the castle below him. A small sound, somewhere between a hum and a grunt, is the only response that Yugi gets before he finds himself following his Other, floating down, down, down.
They enter the castle through a hall window, joining hands again as they find themselves slowly lowering. The hall they arrive in is massive, though completely empty aside from three statues, resembling dragons and encased in the same icy crystal that had covered the Tablet of Memories back in the museum the day before.
"Three dragons...?" the Other Yugi wonders.
"You came!!""
As they ponder the statues, a voice makes them both jump. They spin on their heels, turning quickly to face--
"dark magician girl?!" Yugi squeaks.
Sure enough, standing before them, a pleading look in her bright blue eyes, is a monster they both know well. She looks nervous, clutching her staff in both hands.
"You're the one who's been calling for help?" the Other Yugi asks.
"Yes..." she answers hesitantly. "I need your help! Both of our worlds are in danger..."
"Tell us what's going on," the Other Yugi demands.
And so, she explains. The Dark Magician girl explains that their worlds run parallel to each other, that this world of monsters was created by the thoughts and souls of the people of Yugi's world. That they exist codependently, a world of magic and a world of the mundane. The two Duelists stay quiet as they listen, a look of nervous wonder on Yugi's face, an unreadable, tight-browed expression on the Other's.
She goes on. That dark sun looming overhead, she explains, has been devouring the monsters of her world, leaving only a handful left to hide within the castle. Other Yugi's expression softens as he feels the sorrow and sympathy inside his Partner's heart.
"Partner...."
"isn't there any way to save both of our worlds...?" Yugi asks.
Now, the Dark Magician Girl goes quiet. She takes a deep breath, holding her staff straight and close to her chest as she suddenly rises into the air without another word. Lifting her head, she looks to the statues behind the Duelists.
"These dragons have protected our world since ancient times. But they used up their power in past battles, and fell into deep hibernation," she explains. "No one knows their names, or just how long they've been here...."
Other Yugi's hand tightens around his Partner's. "Nameless dragons..." he mutters. With a light jump, he rises into their air after the Magician, gently tugging Yugi along with him.
"There's a legend about these dragons though. That one day, when our worlds both need it, a True Duelist would arrive. Only they hold the power to wake these dragons..."
The Yugis look at each other. Then, to the dragons once more.
"a true duelist...." Yugi chews on the words as his
"Mm..." the Other ponders quietly. A golden-hilted sword protrudes from the eye of the dragon before them and catches his gaze.
"Masters, I believe you were chosen to free the dragon!" the Dark Magician Girl cries. "Remove the sword and call out its name..."
"You said no one knows their names," the Other Yugi points out.
"The chosen Duelists will know when it's needed of them. Please, you have to try!!"
There's another moment of hesitation.
"Partner..."
Yugi just nods confidently, and it's settled. Together, they each reach out one hand, taking the sword at once. And just like that, without any resistance, the sword slides free of the crystal below, and Yugi gasps.
"other me--"
"Yeah." He takes a deep breath.
"Timaeus!!! Awaken!" they call as one.
An ear splitting CRACK echoes through the hall. The crystal falls away, crashing to the floor below as the teal dragon below roars to life. It throws back its head, and the power it emits makes Yugi tremble.
"i can feel it--" he gasps, wide eyed.
"Timaeus can awaken the dormant power of all monsters," the Other Yugi says, awestruck.
The moment seems to last forever as the two hover, gazing in wonder at the great beast.
"Duelists!!!" Dark Magician Girl's voice breaks the two from their mesmerized trance. "Use its power!"
"oh--"
"Mm."
The two look at each other and nod. Side by side, a mirror image of each other, they stretch out a hand toward the mighty dragon. The energy pulses between them, a terrible pressure and a rush of wind, and heat as the dragon roars again--
Yugi sits up in his bed with a start, gasping as his eyes fly open. His breath comes heavy as he looks quickly around himself, trying frantically to get his barings.
A dream.
A dream!
Of course that was just a dream.
He leans back against his pillow, taking, holding, and releasing a deep breath. He can feel his Other Self inside his heart, nothing seems to be wrong. He watches the glow of rainbow lights dance across his floor from the sky light window over his desk. It's pretty, calming....
"what is that light anyway?" he wonders aloud. "an aurora?"
He starts to close his eyes, to drift back off to sleep, to a more relaxing dream, before a suddeb realization has his heart leaping into his throat once again.
Domino City doesn't get auroras.
A monsterous roar from outside confirms his fears. Without another moment's hesitation, he bolts from the bed, grabbing the Puzzle, his phone, and his Duel Disk as he races down the stairs and outside, dressed in only his pajamas and jacket.

would like to explain my own interpretation of this play-by-play....
Firstly. I really enjoy everything about this-- kind of a perfect scene for Nene-chan challenging Tsukasa! It's funny, but it's sad, in that understated way we get with Tsukasa.
Tumblr media
of all things, it is funny for Nene-chan to refuse his hopelessness about this so directly by yelling at him. I like that to her, it's just like.... come on!!!! If we both yell he might hear us!!! big voices!!!!! don't be stubborn!!!!
Nene-chan slips.... and without thinking, Tsukasa quickly catches her, letting his own hold on the edge go. I like that Tsukasa can do something so foolish.
Tumblr media
I don't think Tsukasa sees Amane, here. I think he's reeling in shock from his own decision to save Nene-chan, and send them both plummeting together. Consequences of his actions.
Tumblr media
he sees the owls diving at them from above, he's aware of the terrible pit beneath them, there is no good option. I've seen fans in JP focusing on the ----- before the . . . something comes out of Tsukasa... it's significant it's not just '. . . '
I think it would be very appropriate if ... despite Nene-chan's insistence on yelling from his belly, that ... the call for Amane comes out silent, only mouthed, a weak plea. Demure. He can't bring himself to say it louder, but, it's on his mind due to Nene-chan's insistence. Amane saving you. I wonder if Tsukasa's thought about something like that? For who he is, what he's been through ... I think it's, a major breakthrough to... even imagine, Amane coming for him. In its way, a heartbreaking moment for Tsukasa, who is typically practical with Amane's limits. Amane doesn't do many things ...
We don't get to see Tsukasa afraid or scared often ... but I think this moment of vulnerability could be our first peek. He's unusually weakened and he made a snap decision for Nene-chan, which he wouldn't typically make. Much like Amane's feelings for Nene-chan surprise Amane by being new, different-- something he's not 'supposed' to feel.
I do not think either Yugi really understands themselves changing, until it's already happening. Influence ... something new becoming precious, or someone behaving differently ... they both don't think it is possible, I think. I just think Amane is more grim about it while Tsukasa is "such it is!" about it.... if we look at Tsukasa, I'm sure we can agree it seems difficult to truly surprise him.
Tsukasa falls. He wishes Amane would come save them. He's agog to see his wish come true
Tumblr media
Amane even directly replying "what?" and making eye contact ... whatever that was, however small or not aloud you spoke it, Amane somehow received it. How romantic, for poor Tsu.
Tsukasa's nature has him recover from this charmingly, but... I think getting to see him wide-eyed in wonder and confusion is beyond what we've seen of him thus far. Nene-chan and Amane both can surprise little Tsukasa. He doesn't actually know everything.
he suddenly feels like such a little brother, doesn't he?
Tumblr media
I like that Tsukasa's response to new experience is to immediately try to ask about it and rationalize it... he wants to process, take it in! But why did you do that?
Tumblr media
Amane refuses to turn and look at him....
Anyway. That's all! I feel like ... there might be a focus on only Tsukasa's feelings for Amane, here. But I think Nene-chan genuinely influenced him to think in a new, different way, and that Tsukasa acted on impulse for her. I want to give her credit for challenging him, and I want to give Tsukasa credit for everything he feels in response.
this arc is the longest and most thoroughly we've explored yorishiro Tsukasa .... he is not such an unstoppable or immovable force.

OLSSM: Anniversary #7!!
It's that time of spring again, folks! Another year around the sun for OLSSM! It's hard to believe this story has been hanging around for seven years already; seems like yesterday I revived the plot out of the ashes of its original FF.net counterpart.
As always, thank you to everyone who has read, left kudos and comments, or just sat back and listened to me gush plot points out into the void. You all are the best! <3
This year, I bring a few birthday goodies: first of which are the next three chapter prints! #39-41 are now included in their respective pages on AO3. Check out @godbirdart's amazing work!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm working hard on getting CH56 ready to post, but it is not looking like it will be finished in time to make its anniversary. In its place, I give you a chonky fic snippet, under the cut.
Thank you again for all the love and support!!
SNIPPET 1/2 (Surprise! There are two!):
“…We had an idea to get Umbridge off our backs,” Harry finished, “…and we could use your help.”
Professor McGonagall merely stared at him.
“My help?”
“Yeah…” said Harry and Yugi fidgeted in his seat beside him. “Ideally, we’d want to get the map back from her…but she would know we took it. So…the next best thing is just to wipe it clean. There’s a phrase that will clear all the details off it, so she won’t be able to use it anymore.”
“It’s just…in her office, and we technically can’t get to it,” said Yugi.
She let out a sharp exhale. “Are you two asking for my help in breaking into her office? Am I understanding this correctly?”
“No, nothing like that,” said Yugi. “Uh…we just need help with distracting her long enough so we can do that.”
She crossed her arms over her chest. “I know I am not hearing you relay the broader points of another rule-breaking scheme. Mr. Muto, what did I just tell you yesterday about staying out of trouble?”
Yugi cringed.
Harry held up his hands. “It’s…we know Seto is planning a trip back home this coming weekend. We need to make sure that Umbridge is the one to take him off the grounds.”
“Mr. Kaiba did relay his travel dates to me, but Dolores will have nothing to do with this – a Japanese Auror is to meet him at the castle gates and escort him back.”
Yami phased out of the Puzzle to hover between both Yugi and Harry. “That’s just it, Professor. An Auror won’t be there to meet him. We need to get her out of the school long enough that we can clear the map without her suspecting anything.”
She didn’t look convinced, and narrowed her eyes at him. “If Mr. Kaiba doesn’t have an escort, he won’t be leaving the grounds. And if he has a week to prepare for this trip, then there is no reason why someone cannot be arranged, either from our Ministry or theirs. But even so, should no one be there to meet him, Dolores certainly won’t volunteer to do it. And while I certainly do not condone breaking in and searching her office, a quick apparation trip to Japan and back is hardly enough time to even look around.”
“Well…Seto flies home,” said Harry, “So we’d actually be saddling him with her for about…twelve hours.”
Professor McGonagall huffed, closed her eyes, and pinched the bridge of her nose. “I cannot believe I am listening to this…. And what does he think, of this scheme you’ve put together?”
“Oh, he hates it,” said Harry. “He’s only two steps from murdering us all for coming up with it.”
“Well,” she deadpanned. “I can’t say I blame him.”
--
SNIPPET 2/2:
Professor McGonagall drummed her fingers along the edge of her desk. A stack of second-year essays sat in front of her, waiting to be graded. But rather than start the sometimes-heinous task of deciphering her students’ handwriting, she merely stared at the parchment, as if watching them would cause the quill to jump out of its inkwell and start the task itself.
It didn’t.
She huffed, her focus lost a good hour ago, and swept around the desk, out of the office, and made her way down the corridor towards the Grand Staircases, where she stopped at the landing.
An empty piece of stairwell detached itself from the ground floor and slowly rose up to meet her. The question, of course, was…where to?
Her legs seemed to have an idea far before her brain did, and she let the staircase take her up to the fifth-floor landing. She slowly walked the corridors. All the classrooms on the floor were dark, including #5B where the inter-house Wizard Card Collector’s Club often met to trade their chocolate frog cards.
The final hall ended in a staircase going down to the fourth floor and she took it, avoiding the trick false step halfway down that almost every first-year student this year managed to fall through and get stuck. Here, on the fourth floor she heard murmurs of activity. Small pockets of students clustered in little alcoves in the corridor.
She paused in front of the Library, but then decided not to go in, and continued towards the far wing. This half of the fourth floor was empty, and she took the access staircase down to the third floor, rounded the nearest corner, and stopped short.
Dolores’s office was just up ahead, past the entranceway to the armor gallery. The door was open, and curiously enough – two Aurors hovered in the doorway.
“The map shows where everyone is,” she remembered Potter saying, that afternoon in her office, “every corridor, and every secret passage on the grounds. …If she found Yugi on it that night he tried to get out, all she had to do was follow his tracks.”

Nothing Builds a Friendship Like a Crisis
Tumblr media
Co-written with multifandoms27 Summary: You wanted to work in peace, but a certain CEO wanted you to take on a job for him. Dub canon plus a version of DSOD. Female Reader. Set maybe two years post DSOD. Fun fact: I always write my Reader character with personality and specific description. This means she may not be as generic as is customary for this type of story. Each reader character also has a specific place in the Yu-Gi-Oh world, and is basically an OC with set connections and feelings about the various canon characters and other reader characters. This is reader B, who is immune to the siren song of romance, cheap, eccentric, logical, and hands-on. Word count: 1,100 You never intended to become friends with Kaiba. You'd heard too much about him from Joey over the years to think such a thing was possible. But... It felt lonely after Yugi and his friends’ graduation. Over the course of the three prior years, while you had worked at Kame Game, Yugi had slowly pulled you into his friend group. Always slow to form emotional connections, you found you were no match for Yugi’s bright smile and quiet nudging to join in the fun. And despite being four years older, you had been well integrated by the time Yugi graduated—although, truth be told, you were only marginally aware of how much you had come to delight in spending time with the group. At least, until it ended, then you became keenly aware. Téa left to study in New York. Tristan was working full time in his dad’s factory. And Joey spent his days working a collection of odd jobs and chasing down his dream of becoming a professional duelist. And then Joey started dating your younger sister, and it felt like losing two friends at once. Fortunately, you and Yugi grew closer, starting Pharaoh Games together, designing a few games which the two of you sold for a slight profit at a small scale. And Mokuba started to swing by; he latched onto you, quickly becoming close. It was Mokuba who hired you and Yugi to design the proof of concept game for his older brother’s new solid vision holograms. And that was how, amidst a whirlwind year and a half project, you met Seto Kaiba. He was the most interesting human you had ever met, he designed incredible things, and he loved his little brother—the three shortcuts to winning your favor, all in one person. You and Kaiba worked well together—which Mokuba encouraged—and to your surprise, by the end of the project, Kaiba was going out of his way to talk to you, tell you about his plans, and ask for your advice on specific elements of scenario design for his own Solid Vision projects.
You even tried to help Kaiba win a bet with Pegasus, and although the two of you eventually lost, it did help create a true bond between you, (especially when it came time to pay up.) Still, once the Solid Vision game was completed, Kaiba moved on to other projects, and you were left with nothing to return to but quiet work at the game shop. It was a good job, a good life, and Yugi was a good friend; but you missed spending time with someone smarter than you, someone who built imaginary worlds from light, someone with impressive dreams for the future. It felt like, after years of hearing about Yugi’s adventures, you had been swept up into the edges of something grand, only to be dropped again back into the mundane—and there were fewer friends to share it with now.
Still, the Kaiba brothers both kept in contact in their own way, and you had low social needs, so it all seemed like it would work out.
While working alone at the game shop, you flipped the radio on. An old fashioned trumpet fanfare blasted out of the speakers as you scrambled to turn the volume down. You were all too familiar with the melody—the theme song for a rapidly ascending game company, Knightly Rook, which had been in an advertising blitz for almost a month now. From your admittedly biased perspective, the company seemed more hype than substance, but it was the company’s snide, barely concealed jabs at Kaiba Corp that irritated you. Still, there was a lot of talk from the company’s popular president that Knightly Rook would soon go public, so for the moment, even the news was covering their rise to prominence.
At your hip, your cell phone went off, playing the Kaiba Corp theme. Switching off the radio, you popped the phone out of its clip and answered it. “Kaiba?”
“You’re taking Mokuba to Kaiba Land tomorrow.” Kaiba rarely bothered with the customary social dance that defined most people’s conversations.
Had you forgotten about a plan made months ago? You switched to your calendar app, “No, I’m not. I’m working tomorrow.” You liked jumping straight past the niceties too. “Besides, I don’t remember asking you to plan my schedule.”
“You should. You wouldn’t make yourself a long-term plan if I paid you to do it.” Kaiba gave a harsh little laugh. “Yugi can run the shop. I want to hire you to assist Mokuba for his park inspection tomorrow.”
“Don’t you usually do the monthly park inspection with Mokuba?” You switched your phone to speakerphone, setting it down and grabbing a box cutter. “Besides, Yugi’s out of town this week.” Cutting open a few boxes of supplies, you began to check the contents against the provided invoices.
After a moment’s silence, Kaiba gave a little growl, “Why is Yugi in New York?”
He must have checked Yugi’s duel disk location. “He’s visiting Téa.”
“Fine. I’ll pay Mr. Muto to give you the day off.”
“Honestly, just wait a couple of days and—“
“Do you think you’re not up to the task? Is that why you’re turning this opportunity down?”
“Hey, we both know I’m capable of keeping up with Mokuba. I’ll be available in a few days. You don’t even have to pay me.”
“I’d rather you did it tomorrow. And I’ll pay you. The last time someone other than me did the inspection with Mokuba, he ended up covered in wet paint and quit.”
Not surprising. Mokuba could be something of a feral gremlin with anyone he didn’t like. You sighed. “What time will a car be picking me up?” You weren’t going to pay for parking at Kaiba Land if you could help it.
“Nine. I’ll have someone fax you your W-4. Fill it out and have it ready for tomorrow.”
“Okay.” You marked off the last of the supplies on the invoice. “Anything I need to read up on tonight?”
“I’ll send you the latest security protocols. But be sure to destroy the papers after you read them.”
“Security proto—Kaiba what’s going on?”
“I’m handling it. But I don’t have time to accompany Mokuba tomorrow. Just keep an eye out.”
You sighed again. Why did Kaiba have to be secretive? “Fine. But I’m not a bodyguard. I don’t have the right training.”
“Mokuba will have guards with him.”
You set down your pencil. “That’s good. Will we see you tomorrow?”
“I doubt it.”
“Well, I’ll keep Mokuba out of trouble.”
“Bye.” Kaiba hung up. Abrupt as always. Hopefully, you wouldn’t make any embarrassing mistakes tomorrow. If Kaiba trusted you, then you had no intention of letting him and Mokuba down. Part 2

Hello, if you don't mind me asking another one for Dragonshipping, this time I'd love to see Yami/Atem being Top (not for smut but domestic) and Jou being bottom... will you write 9 You love me...? & 22. I thought you were taken... a lil emotional scene of Jou doubting love in Yami/Atem's confession, believing he's not that important and at the end I crave for their fluff & happy ending... 😭
Aaaa hi! I am so sorry this took so long, omg, but I hope that it was worth the wait and that you enjoy the lil drabble ^.^
I also hope your day is being kind to you wherever you are and whatever you're doing <3
.........
Jou had expected a night of gaming, eating his own body weight in takeout and hopefully finally winning a game against his friends. He hadn’t expected Yugi to make his excuses as soon as he got there, to insist that Jou stayed whilst he ran to the shop to get snacks.
Hadn’t expected to be left alone with Atem so suddenly and completely without a plan.
Being alone with Atem in itself wasn’t an issue, of course, he very much enjoyed the others company…the problem was that he enjoyed that company just a little too much.
His feelings for Atem had confused him at first, but then he’d just accepted it for what it was. This man had saved his life on more than one occasion, he’d done so much for all of them and the world in general that it was only right for him to admire him…
Only he knew it wasn’t just friendly admiration, or even the kind of admiration he’d seen in movies where the hero saved the world and everyone looked up to them for it.
No, it was deeper than that.
Most people didn’t want to kiss their best friends. Most people didn’t feel an unspeakable need to see them when they’d just woken up in the morning, to see how they looked when they were completely at rest. To find every excuse just to be a little bit closer to them, to crave any kind of physical contact they could possibly get-
He knew he’d fallen hard for his friend. So when Atem smiled at him and beckoned him to join him in the kitchen, his stomach filled with butterflies. Although he knew he was just waiting here with Atem until Yugi came back, he wished it was more than that.
But how could he possibly say what he felt? How could he tell Atem of all people that he wanted to be more than friends, wanted to hold him, kiss him and just…be with him.
Looking at him now, just standing there looking so fucking perfect with literally no effort at all…his feelings were painfully obvious to him, as was one particular thought.
Atem was too good for someone like him.
“You seem distracted.” Atem said, that damned smile on his face which always threatened to turn his insides to mush and unravel him completely. “Is everything okay?”
He thought Atem sounded nervous, but maybe that was just wishful thinking on his part, his need to feel like he wasn’t alone in the way he felt.
“Yeah, of course.” He said with a shrug, moving to lean against one of the counters opposite where Atem was standing.
“Good.” Atem said, relief edging his tone. “Cause I actually wanted to talk to you about something.”
He nodded slowly, trying to swallow the nervousness he felt. It was never good when someone wanted to talk to you…not in his experience anyway.
“Okay.” Atem nodded decisively, leaning back against the counter and exuding that air of confidence which seemed to come so effortlessly to him. He supposed it came from his past life. “So I’ve been trying to tell you something for a while now but it’s come to my attention that maybe I should just be a little more direct when it comes to these things.”
Atem paused and he tried to convince himself to be calm, to not let the way he was feeling show on the outside. He was good at that, he’d had plenty of practice.
“I don’t know when it happened, but I started thinking about you in a different way…as more than a friend, and I tried to show you that, to sort of test how you felt too but my attempts seemed to fall flat. So now I’m just going to tell you. I want to be with you, to be the one you turn to when things get tough, to be by your side for as long as you’ll have me…” Atem paused and a soft sigh left his lips. “What I’m trying to say is, you’re the bravest, most clever and loyal person I’ve ever met and I love you.”
For a brief moment he wondered if he’d even heard Atem right, surely he didn’t just say what he thought he’d said.
It wasn’t possible…was it?
Atem stood there opposite him and just looked back at him, a hopeful smile on his face and he had no idea what to say.
“You…love me?” He asked, the words coming out way more shocked than he intended.
Atem stared back at him, eyebrows raised, mouth open and suddenly he felt like he’d missed something really fucking obvious.
“Are you serious?” Atem asked after a moment, crossing his arms and rolling his eyes, a quiet laugh leaving his lips. “I’ve only been trying to hint at all of this for months.”
“Months?” He repeated, unsure of how to react to Atems words. He knew what he wanted to do…but surely they weren’t there yet.
“Yes, Jou.” Atem sighed softly, his eyes closed for a moment then fixed on him once more, a smile tugged at kissable lips. “I’ve explored every other possible option and the only answer I have is that I love you.”
There were those three words again, words which until this moment he hadn’t even known he wanted to hear from Atem, hadn’t known he wanted to say back.
He shifted awkwardly where he was leaning against the kitchen counter, he suddenly felt very out of place in this house he’d been in countless times, in the space he knew as well as his own home.
Because now things were just a little more real.
Atem was standing on the other side of the small space, only the island separated them and he wondered what to do next. Oh, he should probably start by saying something, Yugi would probably be back any minute now-
Yugi.
He cleared his throat awkwardly and shifted his weight to his other foot then looked back up at Atem, preparing to ask him a question which would make or break him.
“Um, I thought you were…you know.” He paused but Atem said nothing. “Taken.” He finished awkwardly.
“By who?” Atem asked, a small frown on his face again.
Now he really felt like an idiot. How blind had he been to misread something so badly? But really, who could blame him. Yugi and Atem were joined at the hip, practically inseparable ever since Atem was given his second chance at life.
They lived together, took trips together, were always together. He was sure that to anyone it would be obvious there was something between them. Something more than friendship…but Atems reaction suggested he was wrong.
“Yugi.” He said with a shrug.
Atem laughed quietly and nodded.
“I can see why you might assume we were…” Atem waved a hand vaguely. “But no. Our relationship is purely platonic.” He nodded and looked down at his feet. “We share a strong bond, one which I don’t think will ever be broken but it’s not what you think. You forget that we shared a body for a long time…how that felt and everything that happened isn’t just going to pass now we can live separately. I think we’ll always need each other on some level.”
“Of course.” He said, looking back up at Atem and shrugging. “Yeah, sorry.”
“No need.” Atem smiled, then he sighed quietly and pushed himself away from the counter, moving over to the island between them and leaning on the surface, elbows propped up on the top, one hand under his chin. “So…you know how I feel.”
“Yeah…”
“”I’d like to know how you feel.” Atems voice was soft but insistent, curious but cautious and he couldn’t help but smile as he looked back at the man who he now realised he’d fallen for a long time ago.
“I…love you too.” He said, the words lifted a weight off his chest which he hadn’t even known was there, filled him with such a sense of relief that he had to laugh.
Atems smile only grew, then he pushed himself off the counter and stepped around it, that confident smile on his face which Jou loved to see. The one which held the promise of a challenge, the spark in his eyes promised even more and he felt his heart beat faster.
He remained still as Atem pulled at his arm gently, moving him to stand a little straighter as he leaned in closer, a hand brushed against his cheek then soft fingers gripped his chin, leaving him breathless as Atems eyes moved down to his lips.
“This is the part where I kiss you.” Atem said softly.
He found his breath again for just long enough to laugh quietly, a hand nervously touched Atems waist, disbelief at what was happening mixing with pure elation as he closed the distance between them. Atems lips were soft, warm and fit so perfectly against his own that he was convinced he was dreaming.
The feeling of Atem pressing his body against his though, the hard surface of the countertop behind him pressing into his back and the soft breath he could hear from Atem were much too real for his mind to construct.
Atems kisses were much different than how he imagined them, they were insistent and just the right side of too much but he loved it. He loved the feeling of Atems hands sliding into his hair and pulling him closer, demanding more from him and he was happy to give him whatever he wanted.
When Atem moved away they both looked at each other, breathing heavily and he couldn’t fight the smile which worked its way onto his face.
“I love you.” He breathed out, smiling so much it hurt and Atem laughed breathlessly.
“Show me then.” Atem said, pressing their lips together once more.

Still thinking of that chronic hanahaki Puzzleshipping fic, to the point where I now have 1,600 words written! Where am I going with this? like more of my fic, I have no clue. But it will be a one-shot!
------
Yugi stared at the crushed flower. Between his fist, and then being in his pocket all day, it was pretty destroyed. But the tight bunch of yellow blue petals, the yellow base, and blue-purple petals that stuck up more like needles that grass was intact enough to identify.
The center of a blue lotus. An Egyptian flower. They'd been depicted on murals from Ancient Egypt, an frequently filled the reflexing pools that were common center pieces for rich Egyptians since the Middle Kingdom.
Yugi tried to imagine the crushed flower in his hand floating in a shallow pool of water, soaking up sun or resting in the shade of a nearby tree. He imagined Atem at the water's edge, hand dangling in the cool liquid. Imagined the Pharaoh scooping up a flower and holding it to his nose to take a deep breath.
In the mirror, behind half lidded eyes, Yugi watched himself sniff the lotus and tried to convince himself his reflection was his other self. That together, they were enjoy the peace and each other's company.
That Atem never left.
A coughing fit hit him, just as bad as the one at lunch. Yugi braced himself on the side of the sink, mouth open as he coughed in the porcelain. Petals feel from his mouth and the roots in his lungs squirmed, following his veins. From his mouth dropped, for the first time, a full lotus.
Crying Yugi scooped it up. He should destroy it. A full flower was the opposite of what he needed, it was proof his head was in the wrong place, but Yugi couldn't help himself. He filled a small bowl with water, placed the lotus inside, and set the entire thing on his desk.

From the prompt list: "I was going to ask if you wanted to do me on your desk, but I thought I should say hi."
There's potential for playful goodgood, and as you already know from experience, that's immensely fun ;)
Atem x Yugi bc of course-
Of course, my friend ;D Borderline smut? Count me in~ Thanks for the ask! <3
Yugi wasn't sure if he liked his promotion or not. Having his own office and not being pestered by his coworkers constantly was nice—plus, he didn't have to worry about Kaiba randomly staring over his shoulder. However, the downside was it being far too quiet. He couldn't hear any hushed chatter in the soundproof room, or other keyboards clicking away. He was engrossed deeply in his work when his phone buzzed in his pocket. He sighed and fished it out, unlocking it with his face ID. That was another perk of having his own office; he could check his phone whenever he pleased. He smiled when he saw a text message from Atem. How's work? boring That's a shame. Are you doing anything for lunch? probably not. just eating alone in this office If only I could eat with you. tbh i'd rather eat you Yugi was disappointed when he didn't get a text in reply. He sighed and pocketed his phone, assuming that Atem had gotten busy with something. It wasn't unusual for something to grab his attention since he worked from home. A few minutes later, he was disturbed by a knock on the door. He inhaled deeply, then stood up and walked over, deciding to use this as an excuse to stretch his legs. When he opened it, he was pleasantly surprised by the sight of Atem on the other side. Their eyes met and his boyfriend smirked, tilting his head, "You want to eat me?" "I..." Yugi trailed off, still in shock as he took in Atem's appearance before him. He barely noticed the paper bag he was carrying by the handles, the logo of a nearby takeout place printed across the side. He swallowed thickly and shook his head, "You're better than food, honestly." "Is that so?" Atem lifted the bag with emphasis, "Better than this?" "Oh, definitely," Yugi laughed, wrapping his arms around Atem's waist to yank him into the room. He captured his lips and closed the door, pressing him up against it. He made sure to flick the lock into place before truly ravishing him. Yugi brought a hand up to cradle his face in his palm, cherishing the passion in their kiss. Slowly, he dragged his fingertips down Atem's arm and took the bag from his bag. He parted from the kiss and hummed, "Were you going to ask to eat lunch with me?" "Actually, I was going to ask if you wanted to do me on your desk," Atem's gaze flitted over to the surface in question, then back up at him, "But, I thought I should say hi first—and show you that I brought food with me." Yugi shrugged, wandering over to his desk and placing the bag on it, "The food can wait." He moved some papers aside, cleaning off a decent spot, then patted the top, "Come here, baby." Atem chuckled and obliged, sauntering towards him with a playful sway of his hips, "That desperate to fuck me?" "Always," Yugi purred, guiding Atem's legs apart once he hoisted himself up onto the edge of the desk. He pressed a chaste kiss to his lips, then peppered them across his cheek, down his jaw, and then stopped at his neck. He tightened his hold on Atem's hips as he grazed the sensitive skin on his throat with his teeth. A gasp escaped Atem, his hands coming to land on Yugi's chest. He wound his legs around his waist, pulling him closer until their pelvises met in the middle. Their crotches brushed against each other, Atem instinctively canting up into him. "Fuck," Yugi breathed out, guiding him to grind harder on him. "Have you been imagining this? Me fucking you on the desk?" Atem preened, "Ever since you got your own office." "Well, who am I to stop you from achieving your fantasy?" Yugi murmured, bucking roughly into Atem. "I don't think I have any lube—" "I do," Atem blurted as he reached in his jacket pocket and pulled a small bottle out. Yugi's dick stirred in his pants and he groaned, "Bend over, then." "Gladly."

OK it’s time to talk about one of my fav charecter moments ever due to rewatching it today
the fucking kaiba/yugi/yami duel
context
yugi is fighting in a competition a man named maxamilion pegasus kidnapped his grandfather he needs to beet him to win his soul back
kaiba is fighting in a competition a man named maxamilion pegasus kidnapped his brother he needs to beet him to win his soul back
they need to fight each other before they can even try and get their family back only one will win the other will lose their loved one forever they meet on the top of his (pegasus’s) castle to fight on top of two towers
during fights yugi get’s possessed by an old ghost taped in a necklace that’s also holding a fragment of the soul of literally just the devil
meaning yami (the ghost) is rather violent and will do literally anything to win this fight
kaiba starts to lose the fight for his brothers soul and right before he loses he steps on to the edge of the roof and if yami finishes the fight there is a very good chance he will die
yami attacks yugi stops him kaiba wins
and i think this is perfect
from yami’s POV its kaiba’s life or his hosts grandfather yami has killed for far far far less than this it’s perfectly reasonable for him to make this choce very in charecter he was very recently sending people to hell for bullying his host’s grandfathers soul being lost forever actually one of the more reasonable reasons for pulling this kinda shit
yugi stops him he calls off the attack at the last second and as a reaction is actually viceraly afraid of himself and tries to call off dueling (which would lose his grandfather) cuz he no longer trusts himself to do what’s right this also makes a lot of sense yugi’s always been the empathetic touchy feely one he’s not going to kill anyone he’s not like him he and yami are litealy mirrors of each other his actions also make a lot of sense
i actually think what kaiba does in this moment is the most interesting because yes it is drastic but it is actually completely in line with the person we know he is and how he grew up from future show knowledge
kaiba is trying to save his brother mocubba who he swore to always protect when their parents died and they where left at the orphanage we know that at this point in the show we’ve been shown that through flashbacks so the choice kina makes sense it’s definitely justified but what we don’t know yet and what makes it such a good scene to me
we haven't learned about his father
his adoptive father who hated him who (depending on the canon you follow) was literally grooming him to completely replace his old dead son kaiba grew up super in an abusive situation but also one where he actively chose that (as much as a young teen can) due to knowing it would lead to the best life for his brother
what really makes the tower action makes sense is the last time seto ever saw his father
seto bought out majority in his adoptive fathers company and in response
his father kills himself rather than live in failure most of what we know about that man is he tought kaiba that to lose is to die
kaiba threatening to jump off that building isn’t only due to him knowing yugi wouldn’t attack it’s also cuz he genuinely has nothing left to lose he is actually suicidal in that moment not calling a bluff
and i think it’s the most in character way he could have handled that situation ever
because the kaiba we know if he lost that fight would have had to die due to it to follow his character motivations
and anything else would have been dishonest

Everybody be asking for Yugi/DMs crew reactions to Jaden getting hurt now I'm kinda looking for Jaden's reaction to his Dad, his hero, getting hurt lol
Oh we are going to get some of this in the post cannon arc.
It depends on how hurt Yugi is
1) Yugi is lost/‘killed’
Jaden shuts down
Yugi has been his idol for as long as the kids been alive. He’s been his hero since he met him. And he’s been his dad since he was four. Jaden doesn’t really remember life before Yugi. It’s always been him and his dad and their family.
If Yugi was lost in front of him he shuts down. Like has to be carried out shut down.
But that’s what happens if Yugi is lost.
2) Yugi gets hurt. And I mean truly down for the count hurt. Like can’t keep going hurt.
Jaden is sent into a rage. He’s immediately at his dad’s side making sure nothing else can get close to him. He’s vicious in his dueling especially if this happens post dark world where Jaden has already lost people.
It isn’t until others can get to them or Yugi can reach Jaden that the boy finally calms down.
3) if Yugi takes a hit but can keep fighting
It’s worry. Deep bone worry and fear. We can already see as early as season on that Jaden has a city about letting his loved ones get hurt. Yugi taking any damage would really freak him out.
If they were in a tag shadow game duel and yugioh took damage Jaden would lose focus. He’s be so worried about his dad.
And it’s a double edge sword because Yugi would be doing everything to make sure no damage went to Jaden even if it means he gets hit. Jaden is the same, doing everything in his power to stop his dad from taking damage.
If it happens post season four Jaden is more aggressive in his plays but no where near the rage that he loses himself to if Yugi gets seriously hurt.
The kid is a ball of anxiety and depression Biden behind a cheer smile. He’s one bad moment away from losing it at all times especially as he gets older and more traumatized

jacket || amane yugi
Tumblr media
genre: fluff
pairing: amane yugi x fem! reader
summary: in which [name] borrowed amane's jacket for her to use since her classroom is cold
Tumblr media
you know what they say, once you have walked far enough you can't go back anymore, it applies to those who have moved on to old relationships and decided reconcile them thinking it was a good thing.
in [name]'s case, she is far from home yet near to kamome academy. she is about to step into the premises until a realization strikes her. "i forgot my jacket—!"
[name] can feel herself getting worried on how she was going to survive from the classroom version of a refrigerator. thinking about it made her shiver. she can't ask her classmates to lend her a jacket so she must resort to one solution.
asking her bestfriend from another class to lend her a jacket. sure, amane is the kindest person you could ever meet since he's literally a sweetheart when you needed help. then again, wouldn't it feel weird when you're borrowing, especially clothes, from someone who's in the opposite gender?
who cares—borrowing clothes is normal only when you're both friends or dating. but where does amane and [name] land? to the friendzone.
anyways, [name] pulls out her phone from her skirt pocket to text amane to bring his jacket with him so that she could borrow it, she doesn't want to end up as a popsicle at the end of the day. "hey amane may i borrow your jacket?" she types on the text box and hits send.
amane replies back a second later. sure, i'll bring it over, wanna meet by the entrance when i arrive?
[name] releases a sigh of relief that amane is going to bring her a jacket for her to use—to protect her from the harsh coldness of the classroom. "hi [name]-chan, aren't you going upstairs yet?" her friends ask, they're all wrapped up with their jackets that made [name] a little envious.
"uh, you guys go ahead, i'm waiting for someone." [name] smiles nervously while pointing at the ground to indicate that she's standing here waiting for amane.
"oooh?~ your boyfriend?"
"i wish all of us have a boyfriend."
"alright [name], see you in class~" her friends smirk as [name] playfully rolls her eyes at their teasing. although there was already a pink blush on her cheeks. tsuchigomori was walking by and greets [name] good morning which she bowed and greeted back.
"[name]!"
[name] turns her head around to see amane walking towards her while unzipping his bag. "i thought i couldn't find you and there you are right in front of me!" he happily says. "i got my jacket here, i hope you don't get cold." he pulls out the black jacket from his bag and hands it to [name].
"thank you amane-kun, i'll bring it back by the end of the day." [name] holds the jacket in her arms while swaying side by side. "so like we'll meet here again?"
amane nods. "yeah, i'll text you."
sometimes it's edging to think that she and amane are separated in different classes, but that didn't stop their friendship from going on. others might think that they'll forget each other that way but the reason why they haven't drifted apart,
was because the two of them are crushing on each other and that they don't admit it. [name] wears the jacket, the sleeves were longer than her arms and it reaches over her thighs. amane did tell her that this jacket was his favorite one although it fits to him like a glove.
Tumblr media
[name] doesn't want to take off the jacket, like at all. she develops an emotional attachment to amane's jacket because it feels comfortable. some of her classmates asked as to why the jacket is too loose on her and she clarified that she borrowed it from her friend, which is a guy.
during vacant hours since for some reason the teacher did not come to class for five hours, [name] repeatedly taps on her phone for some games and she couldn't talk to amane because he has classes. so she was bored.
[name] pulls out a sticky note from her bag, scribbling a note and placing it inside her pockets. then, she takes out a piece of chocolate and tucks it in her pocket—as thanks for amane to lend her his jacket.
she really can't let go of the jacket because it feels comfortable and it feels like amane was hugging her for reals. "lemme guess? it's from that guy from another class?" her friend, yui, teases while wiggling her eyebrows.
"it's not what you think, he's my best friend—there's nothing going on between us." [name] corrects.
"bro that's what you see but i really see you two as dating because one, you're wearing his jacket." yui points out. "two, you guys go on secret meetups when both of you can casually approach each other like friends do."
"and three, we're not misunderstanding your friendship." yui quotes while doing peace signs with her hands. "you're denial that the fact you two probably have feelings for each other that you two think it's a just friends behavior—which is not."
[name] gasps. "the audacity—!"
"i'm just stating facts, dear." yui flips her hair and somehow the aura around her starts to sparkle.
"don't call me dear—" [name] deadpans.
"but if it's your 'bestfriend' you're okay with it?" yui raises her eyebrow and points at the message pop out on [name]'s phone.
hey dear, it's lunch time, make sure to eat your food and don't skip your meals or imma go to ur class and feed you.
[name]'s cheeks turn red, embarrassed that yui was right and that she had a glimpse of their conversation on her phone. "yeah a friend's behavior would be hey broski lets eat lunch together not hey dear don't skip your meals." yui explains with a deadpanned look on her face.
[name] rolls her eyes. "i hate it when you're right."
Tumblr media
when it was finally dismissal, amane along with tsukasa waits for [name] by the entrance to get his jacket back. although he was curious about what [name] looked like with his jacket on. "who are we waiting for?" tsukasa asks.
"we're waiting for [name]." amane replies.
tsukasa wiggles his eyebrows. "ohohoho~ i see." so it led to the yugi twins teasing each other until [name] arrives. amane could already feel himself getting flustered like who wouldn't? the love of your life is wearing your favorite jacket and she looks cute in it.
"amane-kun! thank you for lending me your jacket." [name] says between ragged breaths because of running. "you should get this thing washed though." [name] carefully takes off the jacket and hands it to amane.
"you're welcome." amane takes the jacket from her. "hmm i'll probably keep the jacket for a while till mom arrives to get this thing washed."
"okay—ah! i have to go now there's a new episode of an anime that i'm watching! bye amane-kun and tsukasa-san!" [name] announces while running off to the gate to go home.
amane notices a neon yellow note that was sticking out of one of the pockets. he puts the jacket close to him and was surprised that it smells good. he smiles to himself when he takes out the yellow note and a piece of chocolate.
thank you for the jacket dear :>
"did you find something in there amane?" tsukasa asks while trying to see what made his older brother smile.
amane looks at him and chuckles. "it's nothing—" he lied yet it was something more that made his heart pound wildly in his chest.
Tumblr media
bonus:
"it smells like soil here." tsukasa complains while walking with amane through a pathway full of grass.
"can't relate—it smells good in my situation." amane brags with a smirk on his face while pressing the jacket near his nose to smell the cologne that [name] applied recently.
"i bet later on you're going to add white in that jacket." tsukasa smirks back at him. "and that you'll release all of the things that you've been holding back—"
"what the fuck—tsukasa!"
