In New India, a hypercapitalist country rebuilt from the ashes of apocalypse, twins Lila and Lahar set out to cure the plague killing those on the outskirts of their country. But, after a shocking betrayal that leaves them exiled, both turn to new plans of their own, Lila at the center of a violent revolution and Lahar working to infiltrate the government to clear his and Lila’s names. But revolution and retribution both come with a price, and this game of fierce, cutthroat politics is not one that anyone can walk away from unscathed.

Isaac Robinson is obsessive, jealous, and desperate to duct-tape his broken pieces together after dropping out of school when he meets Sawyer Dean: equally obsessive, charming yet cruel, and eager to be free of his family as he moves states for med school. As Isaac and Sawyer's lives intertwine, both find themselves growing more and more infatuated with the rush that comes with violence as the thing between them grows stranger and more twisted with every passing day.

All art is made great by fighting for it. This is the truth that Adona Graves has used to tip the scales to her advantage her entire life. It’s the truth that got her into the most prestigious arts school in the world, and it’s the truth that’s going to keep her at the top of her game if she can manage to keep her secrets locked away. But Adona’s drug habits and nights spent kissing nameless girls are a mark on her reputation waiting to happen, and there’s a certain Briar Halse who Adona can almost swear is watching her every move.

2023 favessss
sorry i'm late. tagged by my darling @takethemonetandletsgogh (thank you x) ♡
i suck at ranking things so take this more as a list of recommendations of different stuff i enjoyed last year <3 i tried to include mostly stuff that came out in 2023 :-)
albums
• did you know there's a tunnel under ocean blvd? by lana del rey (2023) → GOD lana's growth makes me so happy ♡ i used not to like her albums but then i adored NFR... and this one is just as amazing (if not better!)
• my back was a bridge for you to cross by ANOHNI (2023) → this was so intense and powerful and i will never recover from it .
• javelin by sufjan stevens (2023) → confession: i love sufjan but i can't always handle a whole album... but this one is his best imo. i was heartbroken .
books
(i did not read a single book that came out in 2023 lol)
• ignorance by milan kundera (2000) → oh, milanku ♡ amazing writer AND all of the characters are either fucking bastards (the mother. if u read it u know what i'm talking about) or so fucking pathetic and miserable... j'adore ♡.
• the house of the spirits by isabel allende (1982) → first time reading isabel allende and i was mesmerized by her writing... and to think i wasn't too keen on reading it because i'm not the biggest fan of the magical realism typical of latin-american literature... i'm so glad i read it!
• lila by marilynne robinson (2014) → the loneliness, the lack of sense of belonging, the inability to trust anyone... but also a beautiful love story... AND the writing is magnificent. i loved everything about this book.
movies
• asteroid city (wes anderson, 2023) → saw this at the cinema with two friends and it was such a great experience ♡ visually amazing film (lol, who would've thought!) and i'm a sucker for metanarratives.
• jojo rabbit (taika waititi, 2019) → saw it this summer in a hotel room with a dear friend (and mutual) and i had a lovely time ♡ this film made me cry and the final scene broke me and warmed my heart at the same time (with that song 🥹).
• killers of the flower moon (martin scorsese, 2023) → not to be a film bro™️ but i loved this film, especially the acting (i had high expectations for obvious reasons), and despite it being like 3 hours it felt wayyy shorter!
i'm tagging @pisceslore @mumintroll @iidsch @vcasih @mothprincess @pozaba @girlmaturin @stonechild @howmuchisweed @heavenlyyshecomes (even though everyone has probably already done it) ♡ have an amazing night/day everyone xx

lila, pt. 2.
dialogue prompts from lila by marilynne robinson.
you still don't trust me at all.
maybe you should just tell me those things, whatever they are.
i was thinking about you all the time.
i was thinking about you, and wondering about myself.
do you still pretend to talk to me, now that i'm here?
i'm very trustworthy, so there's no need to cry.
the way we used to laugh was better than anything.
everything you tell me surprises me. it's always interesting.
you never could let anything be.
i guess it's been a while since i had dreams worth talking about.
no point making it worse than it has to be.
you shouldn't have waited up for me.
i can't go on protecting you from other people.
did i do something i shouldn't?
i'll tell you about my day if you'll tell me about yours.
i have a lot of memories, these days, and i have some pretty bad dreams.
no matter what happens, i am on your side.
there are people you seem to know the first time you see them.
i thought i'd learned not to set my heart on anything.
i did know you. i do know you.
you don't mind all the scars and scratches?
folks are their bodies, and bodies can't be trusted at all.
there's no point being scared of pain.
nobody knows what to say about sorrow like that.
it's amazing that anybody in the world can hurt your feelings, if they want to.
i've got feelings i don't know the names for, but i wouldn't wish them on a snake.
i don't want you looking at me that way.
i can talk better than this. guess i just don't want to.
you never told me what you're scared of. there must be something.
i think through things. it calms me. otherwise, i don't react as well as i might.
some things you want so much, you can't believe you have them.
sometimes i just laugh because i'm surprised.
i'll come to find you, like i always do.
how can i tell you about things i don't understand myself?
it's worse every day because it's the same, every day.
you have been a miracle.
don't hope. just wait.
how is praying different from worrying?
stealing is stealing, especially if you get caught at it.
just crawl under the covers with me until i get warm.
i won't cry if you won't.
i tried praying a couple times, and nothing came of it.
the best things that happen, i'd have never thought to pray for.
fear and comfort can be the same thing.
i think you've been playing possum.
we'll be nowhere, and it will be all right. i have friends there.
when you're scalded, touch hurts. makes no difference if it's kind or not.
you have to stay out of trouble, for the sake of your child.
that's what my heart is like sometimes, secretive and bitter and scared.
i can't love you as much as i love you. i can't feel as happy as i am.
i know you'll do the best you can, the best that can be done.
stepping back into the loneliness is a dreadful thing, like walking into cold water.
what you think, you might not have to feel.
i feel like moses on the mountain, looking out at the life he will never have.
did i ever say that? that i love you? i always thought it sounded a little foolish.
i used to read to myself out loud, just to hear a voice.
there is goodness at the center of things.
it's not fair to punish people for trying to get by.
sometimes we think terrible thoughts to blunt our own fear.

end of year book asks: 2, 10, 17? please and thank you!
ooh thank you!
2: Did you reread anything? What?
Shockingly I did not! Last year when I was dealing with burnout I did a number of rereads, but none this year.
10: What was your favorite new release of the year?
Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton, hands down. Also Rikers: An Oral History by Graham Rayman and Reuven Blau.
17: Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke was phenomenal when I expected it to just be quite good. And I initially expected Everyone Knows Your Mother Is a Witch by Rivka Galchen to be good, then disliked it for the first 70 pages or so, but stuck it out and was pleasantly delighted by how much I ended up loving it. Also: In the Woods by Tana French, which I expected to be a fun but run-of-the-mill thriller. I ended up being incapable of putting it down and got so into it that it stressed me out and I had to pace and fidget while reading it. I am now a Frenchie. Wait and also Gilead and Housekeeping and especially Lila, all by Marilynne Robinson, because I kind of didn't know that books could be that good.
(from this prompt list if anyone wants to ask more)

This is Ana but Im at the airport. I just read Gilead and I’m losing my MIND. You’d read some pages something would make you cry you’d look out the window at the beauty of America it would remind you of Gilead you’d resume cycle continues. I’m here to ask: is Lila good . Or Home. Or as good.
Ana I will have full answer for you tomorrow but in the meantime I’m hoping we can hold space for our sister-in-blogging, Ana, who just read Marilynne Robinson’s Gilead on a plane flying over America in the summer of 2022. That is a lot for a person to be experiencing.

Big February Sweep…
Since we are in February, I don’t think we will get those unique Soap Opera February Sweep, such as Metro Court and Monkey Illness in GH. Since most of the major storylines had finished in January except for the Metro Court Shooter, Dex is working for Michael, Gregory’s illness, Tracy is still the owner of Deception, and Cory is Mac’s child. I don’t count whatever Drew and Carly’s plan against Nina because that needs a whole post on its own; I would have two major events going on at the same time to tie up those storylines and to have new storylines out.
Half of the cast is at Sonny’s Place on the Island, and the other half is at the hospital. And the way I would break it down is:
Character:
Sonny’s Place: TJ Ashford, Alexis Davis, Sam McCall, Danny Morgan, Scout Cain, Kristina Corinthos-Davis, Molly Lansing-Davis, Sonny Corinthos, Dante Falconeri, Rocco Falconeri, Carly Spencer, Josslyn Jacks, Michael Corinthos, Willow Tait, Wiley Corinthos, Amelia Corinthos, Donna Corinthos, Ava Jerome,  Avery Jerome-Corinthos, Damian Spinelli, Lois Cerullo, Brook Lynn Quartermaine, Olivia Falconeri, Leo Quarteramine, Laura Collins, Anna Devane, Drew Cain, Dex Heller, John Cate, Blaze, Diane Miller, Brick, Sasha Gilmore, Trina Robinson, Kevin Collins, Harrison Chase
Hospital: Marshall Ashford, Jordan Ashford, Curtis Ashford, Scott Baldwin, Lucy Coe, Valentin Cassadine, Charlotte Cassadine, Elizabeth Webber, Jake Webber, Aiden Webber, Maxie Jones, Felicia Scorpio, Georgie Spinelli, James West, Bailey Jones, Tracy Quartermaine, Ned Quartermaine, Robert Scorpio, Cody Bell, Nina Revees, Gregory Chase, Violet Finn, Hamilton Finn, Portia Robinson, Martin Grey, Cyrus Renault, Stella Henry, Brad Cooper, Selina Wu, Yuri, Amy Driscoll, Terry Randolph, Deanna Sirtis, Felix Dubuis, Monica Quartermaine
Events:
Island - Michael and Willow want to have a huge first birthday for Amelia, and they decided not to have Nina or anyone related to her there. John and Anna join them as they know who the shooter is, and Dex realizes his secrets are coming out. Another shooting happens.
Hospital - Cyrus and Selina set a bomb during a fundraising at the hospital where everyone else is, and they think Sonny and his family were there.
Characters that are Kill off:
Island: Baby Lansing-Ashford, Blaze, Willow, Wiley, Donna, Olivia, Drew, Dex, Brick, Sasha, Molly, Damian
Hospital: Marshall, Lucy, Gregory, Cyrus, Finn, Amy, Bailey
Characters that go off-screen aftermath:
Island: Michael & Amelia take a small break (I would recast Michael when they come back in six months); Leo goes to live with Grandma Falconeri; John finishes his case; Josslyn goes to visit Jax; Kristina takes a break and goes with Ric for awhile.
Hospital: Violet goes back to Hayden as Jason knows where she is. Nina decides to visit NYC to check in on her family’s company. Cody goes to find Mac to tell him the truth.
The ending of the storylines:
Island: the Metro Court Shooter: Blaze is the older sister of Lila Rae, meaning she is Lozreno’s daughter, and it is their mob family who is behind it. Dex is working for Michael: Everything they did and who knew comes out, and he is actually working for the FBI. All of his backstory was a lie as he is Stone Cate Jr.
Hospital: Gregory’s illness: He dies protecting Elizabeth’s boys, who have Violet with them. Tracy is still the owner of Deception: She overhears Maxie telling Ned who is injured and what his daughter is trying to do, and Tracy realizes that she watched Maxie grow up and this was her dream. Cody is Mac’s child: Robert, Felicia, and Cody are stuck together, and he tells them.
Start of Storyline
Island: Carly and Sonny lose their minds again with Jason returning; they are sent to a Mental Hospital, where we get a break from the characters. Sam asks Alexis to help her run Drew’s company for Scout, and she deals with Danny’s anger with Jason and everything that happens to them. Brooklyn and Chase's wedding is put on hold. TJ started having PTSD from losing his girl and baby.
Hospital: Jason saves Elizabeth and Monica from Cyrus and tells them he has both memories. Elizabeth’s sons (all three of them) have daddy issues, and Elizabeth realizes she has both issues with her parents. While rebuilding the hospital, Elizabeth discovers that her family owns it. Terry realizes how understaffed the hospital is and starts looking for people. Maxie is asked to take over Crimson as well.
