Edward Gorey (1925-2000)

American artist Edward Gorey was a writer, costume designer, and illustrator. He's known for his style of drawing, depicting dark Victorian characters and scenes. He primarily created children’s books, even though he didn’t feel emotional attachments to children. Which I find kinda odd and changes the way I look at his art. Gorey also experimented with more serious concepts through his surrealist books. His work has been classified as gothic.

These books and illustrations hold a dear place in my heart. I knew Gorey before I knew Tim Burton and he sparked my love of dark illustration. Also his humor was kinda out there and usually dark. I feel like his favorite character to illustrate was a child in horrific circumstances. He was one of a kind!
