What are your ryomina headcanons? I've loved these two since I played P3 FES, and I'm so excited to get back into the fandom^^

hi!! thank you so much for the ask, welcome back to the p3 fandom, it's always a delight to see new and old ryomina fans alike! 🥺💛💙

as for headcanons, here's a "few" i that i tend to come back to a lot! my interpretations of them are influenced from both the source material and other's fanworks, so i've linked to them as i saw fit! hcs in no particular order under the cut because oops this got long (900 word bullet point list, mentions of reload content up to 1/1)

minato's hair is dyed blue (hair originally brown, you can see it in his roots!) and he has a beauty mark on under his left eye. i like mirror imagery and there's definitely a few arts i've rb'd that portray them this way :) (e.g. this one by feliichu and this one by marasschino)

as far as i'm concerned the bathhouse scene from the manga where ryoji's hair down = similar shape to minato? that is canon to me. this art from xierru is a fun depiction of hair down ryoji :D

ryoji is homeless. everyone say thank you foxmulder_whereartthou for this awesome fic it's why i have the headcanon! but like seriously. we have no idea where ryoji lives and i could believe this.

minato dying at the end of the game is sad to an outsider's POV BUT!!! ryomina gets to be together in death for the rest of their lives (this illustration from mafuwara is a gorgeous representation of them as nyx avatar + the seal)!

speaking of the seal, they are like telepathically communicating to me in the great seal together. (mymp3 had a comic wip with this. give it a looksie :D)

ryoji likes cuddling with minato because he's warm :) (something something orpheus has fire affinity, minato is warm by extension and ryoji is cold because he's death)

ryoji's camera roll is filled with pictures of minato! ryoji... loves life, to me. and i feel that photography and journaling are perfect ways of expressing gratitude and capturing the moments in life that are most important to you :3

my other favorite activity for these two is stargazing- i feel like it's something they could appreciate either in life or death (looking at the stars from the great seal...)! they do a bit of this in the fic eurydice's vow by crescentmoontea (P5R spoilers, takes place in third sem it's a very fun fic concept).

between ryoji and minato i feel like ryoji was the one who fell in love first- and it doesn't really click in place for minato that he loves ryoji until december hits (appriser reveal + ryoji transforming into thanatos). its about the realization that ryoji was with him for his whole life and that he gets him like no one else does.

ryoji is like a sad and wet puppy who is so scared minato won't like him back. he is so scared of being rejected by minato to me like. this boy straight up deflates after he does his "i know i said i wanted us to be friends, but... i actually want to be something more." / "what about you?" on 12/1 ???

AND SPEAKING of wet puppy ryoji. ryoji is like. every animal in the world to me. he's a bird. he's a cat. etc. and also ryoji knows every language in the world ever and uses it to express his love for minato. see this fic from superheroics to see what i mean.

both of them are lactose intolerant. "this isn't lactose, it's milk!" i definitely think ryoji would make himself sick eating ice cream and milk he doesn't know what lactose is. (i made a silly poll about this once and the tags were very entertaining.)

i see minato as transmasc or nonbinary depending on the day (schrodinger's headcanons babey they're simultaneously true and not true at the same time!!). either way he's not cis to me and ryoji is like. His Gender. anyway go read this fic by nail_gun for t4t ryomina :D !

ryomina are WEIRD GUYS TO ME!!! they are so strange and they understand each other better than anyone else because of the circumstances of their relationship!!! if you asked them to do the "i wonder what i taste like" meme i think they'd start biting each other (affectionate) tbh but that's just me.

after ryoji gives minato the music box in 12/31 on reload, minato listens to the music box every night in january. this boy has insomnia and also chronic illness to me (things that housing death does to you). but i think he finds comfort in the melody and memories he made with ryoji.

in general, i think it's fun to imagine minato taking ryoji to places and show him things he's interested in! i feel that ryoji takes a lot of interest in minato's life, this isn't really a hc because in reload, minato DOES give ryoji a tour of the school (11/9) and possibly port island (11/12). but ITS CUTE OK! (tangentially related fanwork: this series of doodles from vinnigami: 1, 2, and 3)

not a hc but minato's kindness is like the backbone of their relationship and i think we would not have the ryomina we know and love today if minato wasn't such a kind soul. oh minato.... we can learn so much from you... like ryoji did!

anyway! that's all the hcs that i could think of, thank you for the ask! i had a lot of fun answering this, these two mean a lot to me 💛💙

8. "with you" + dylan & lizzie

It was kind of amazing how much Lizzie had come to mean to him in such a short amount of time. They'd immediately clicked. She'd taken well to his slightly abrasive sense of humor, not taking offense where it wasn't meant and then sniping back as good as he gave it, and she'd been... kind. Understanding. Non-judgemental.

He found he trusted her, and had started to rely on her just as much as he did Andy, albeit in a different way. They were partners of another sort, but partners nonetheless. He felt safe with her in a way he did with very few people.

He'd always thought that his past had broken him, in a lot of ways. Made it hard for him to trust anyone. It had taken a while for Andy—beautiful, good-hearted Andy—to work his way into Dylan's heart. He and Julian had bonded mostly over life-or-death situations, although they'd since become closer in other ways as well.

But Lizzie had just slipped past his defenses with a wry smile, easy as could be. He'd thought he could barely trust anyone, and yet she'd earned it in practically the blink of an eye.

He wasn't sure if that was him, or just some quality she had—she'd won over Julian, too, which was no easy feat.

Whatever the case, he could only hope he helped her even a fraction of the amount that she'd helped him.

It wasn't like Lizzie had been entirely alone in that year before Dylan. Charlie was gone, and she had little to no friendly relationships at work anymore as she withdrew into herself, but she had Jas. And the guys at work, well, most of them meant well.

Her sister was really in and out, but not completely absent. She just... had her own shit to deal with.

But Dylan—Dylan had really pulled her out of her funk. She'd loved his book, had read it three times and could quote it from memory, and meeting him was... well, she'd had no idea what to expect, but it wasn't quite this: a goofy, sort of... pleasantly annoying and infuriatingly intelligent professor with a flair for style.

And there was plenty of room for the unexpected under all that tweed—a husband (at least she didn't have to worry about a wandering tongue, since he was apparently gay, although actually, come to think of it, even if he was bisexual she could already tell she wouldn't have had to have worried about it anyway, and not just because he was married—which really said something about the guys at work, unfortunately) and the fact he was apparently a real tough guy (CIA handler? paramilitary? jesus) despite appearances.

But he was also just... funny. Kind. He was willing to poke fun at her but would also listen earnestly and never treat her different for having been vulnerable, no matter how ridiculous she felt crying on the job over something as stupid as a dog.

(Not that Gary was stupid. She would have to apologize later. But just—oh, you know what she meant.)

He made her laugh, and could take jokes in stride without thinking she was actually heartless or a bitch, instead poking back. Or if she needed it, asking what was wrong.

Oh, he could be infuriating, he could say exactly the wrong thing or run off and do something stupid and put himself in danger, but she found she was growing to love him very fast. They were partners, best friends.

This is likely why, in a haze of panic, she called Dylan, of all people.

She hadn't had a nightmare this bad—this vivid, this real—since the weeks after Charlie had died.

She barely remembered the details now, only Charlie dying in her arms and the certainty that it was her fault, vague familiar shadows of old hurts, and then Charlie was Dylan, motionless and pale, and it was all her fault if she'd just been faster if she'd just seen if she'd j—

Lizzie called him.

He seemed worried, and she was sure she sounded far too frantic and incoherent despite how she was trying very hard to keep her voice steady and casual, and then he said (with a quick murmur to Andy, who she could just barely hear sleepily mumble something along the lines of go on, babe, make sure she's alright, and she felt a pang of guilt and deep affection) that he was on his way, in a tone that left no room for argument.

When he arrived, she felt like. a mess. She'd really tried to get herself together because this was frankly ridiculous, they were work partners and she was bothering at him at—fuck, what, three am? But there was no irritation on his face, not a single trace of it, only worry.

He'd pulled her into a tight hug and she'd ended up shaking apart in his arms, crying into his shoulder and feeling stupidly, stupidly vulnerable, but he only ran a gentle hand through her hair and held her tighter.

It was far more comforting than it had any right to be.

(Lizzie had always been fiercely independent, even with Charlie insisting on depending on no one, especially not a man, because she wanted to be taken seriously and it was hard enough in her line of work when she was already dating her partner, no matter how little she regretted that.

But this—didn't feel like giving up anything. She was still a little embarrassed, but even that was mostly overwhelmed with the feeling of relief. She knew, of course, he wouldn't think any less of her for this, and right now it was so very clear that he was warm and alive and here.

(Later, when they hesitantly broach the topic—because, ironically, despite both of them very much having problems with opening up, they'd always been pretty good about communicating with each other—he asks her, sort of soft and uncertain, why she'd called him and not someone else. And she'd said, like it was obvious (because it was), Because I trust you. I feel safe with you. I needed to feel safe.

And he'd looked at her like she'd slapped him. And then a little disbelieving smile touched at his lips—why on earth was he so surprised, was she going to have to get another fucking tragic backstory out of him, because it was getting sad, the absolute clown car of tragic backstories this man had—and said, very quietly but with sincerity, that he felt the same way.

She shifted a little, and said, well. Good.

And that was that.)

Summary: Tommy remembers something, albeit a little late

Note: I believe we had 30°+ when this snowed into my askbox and truly made me giggle. I had to take some time before completing this, but I still hope you enjoy it nonetheless- it's not my usual forte. It's a bit of a crack fic/nonsense but here we go. “Fucking hell!”, Tommy cursed, pulling his hand back from the door handle and shaking it in the air. “Thing’s practically boiling.”

“Well, the sun’s been shining on it for hours, so…”, she reminded him, trying to swallow a smile. Poor Tom. His palm was already reddening. For all his skills with numbers and horses and wires even, sometimes he was so horrifically inept.  As if this whole thing wasn't already comically enough.

Speaking of wires - she only caught the last bit of his suggestion, partly fueled by his quite recent, quite painful experience. 

“...blow it up.”

“Tommy!”, she gasped. “You can’t blow the door up - it’ll make the wall come down like a house of cards.”

He only shrugged, spitting on the palm of his hand to ease the burning sting. 

“You want the door open, I’ll get the door bloody open.”, he muttered again, glaring at the side entrance to the rose garden as if it had personally insulted him. 

“I wanted the door open in december.”, she reminded him as gently as she could while still suppressing a giggle. 

It had been then, with snowflakes the size of coins swirling in the air and their breath summoning smoke creatures, when the large square stones that led to the main entrance to the rose garden had gone slick and slippery with thin sheets of ice. 

Even in winter the rose garden had been a beautiful place to be, to see the branches and the statues covered in delicate blankets of white, to see the pond frozen over like the mirrored entrance to another world. No cold could keep her away. The only fear she had was slipping on her way there. 

The last thing she had needed was a broken wrist or twisted ankle. The last thing Tommy had needed was yet another thing to concern herself with. 

So she had turned to the side entrance, but the icy cold had made the door freeze in place where it was, unused for all this time. 

She had asked Tommy for help, and he had promised her, but then so much had happened, and it had gotten pushed into the far corner of his mind.  Before too long snow had turned to rain, only for that to grow scarcer and scarcer with the relentless march of the seasons, and she had been sure he had forgotten all about it. 

Until lunch, a few hours ago, when Tommy had stared at her in the middle of a sentence, his aquamarine blue eyes widening. 

“You wanted the door open!”, he had remembered.  She had tried to assure him that it was of no matter, that it was summer now and truly no chance of snow and ice. 

Still, Tommy had assured her despite her giggles that if she wanted the door open he would get it open. 

Of course, why her husband chose the warmest day of summer to try and open a door that had been frozen shut in december, she did not know.  Well, she’d say that when describing the hilarity of the situation to Polly, Ada and Lizzie, but in truth she knew exactly why. Because she had asked him to.

Please don't send these kind of confessions and expect them to be posted. Although this is a valid opinion it feels like people is just sending hate anonymously to this blog without facing consequences.

Also, i think we should overall be more respectful about writer confessions. I get that we don't like Remy, but it's a little tiring to have the same thing everytime she's brought up, and to have to open the askbox to that. Again, you're all allowed to have opinions and express them, but please remember that this is also a place of constructivity and respect towards each other. we would rather not have drama start on this blog because of something someone said..

Hello! I know you wrote that your askbox is open for chap204 question, so feel free to answer this whenever. I scrolled so far down you reapers tag the app glitched and would only show me the same posts on loop so I didn't see if you answered something about that before: in GW arc, Sasha said that Ciel could see reapers either due to his being close to death or because of his lineage. But people had no problems seeing butler!Grell, or passenger!Ronald, or circus membre!William, or Grell and Othello at the manor and there's other exemples like Undertaker? So is it a mistake by Yana or did I misunderstood?

There are some older posts about this, but they might be hard to pin down, especially if Tumblr starts glitching. 😆

When can you see reapers?

When trying to hide, only certain people can see them, and only under certain circumstances. Reapers can be seen by anyone when they are not trying to hide.

However, there's some reasonable debate on whether Grelle is supposed to be seen by everyone when Lizzie is in fight mode and automatically points her sword at Grelle. I think Grelle was not trying to be invisible at that moment. The main reason I say that is because Sebastian stops Lizzie from fighting Grelle, and Sebastian clearly cannot see reapers who are trying to remain invisible.

Regardless of whether Grelle was trying to be invisible right then, though, the question remains why Lizzie would automatically point a sword at a reaper when she was fighting bizarre dolls.

Even though reapers are supposed to have souls, they are definitely different from regular human beings... and Lizzie might have sensed something off about Grelle (in general), before Sebastian can say anything about Grelle (specifically).

Automatically registering that reapers are not human might be a nod to her lineage anyway, just as seeing reapers when they are in hiding is a nod to our earl's lineage. Keep in mind that our earl only takes note of Sascha and Ludger when he hears one of them say "Phantomhive"; he turns around at the word and finds them in the trees. Similarly, Lizzie only tries to attack a reaper when she's caught up in her sword fighting "zone". In such states, they are probably more open to their own burgeoning powers/abilities.

yes!!! it's me!!! i'm ryomina fan (one of many)!!! thank you for visiting my askbox, i'll do my best to answer all of the questions because it always makes me happy to see that ryomina sparks joy for people! :D

...this got really long because i like linking to things, so i'm putting it under a read more (IM VERY NORMAL ABOUT THEM)

how did i get into it? i got into persona 3 around august 2021 through the movies- at the time my only experience with the persona series was with P5R / P5S / P5D. p3 was the one that interested me the most (i thought minato was very pretty + i caught wind that the themes of the game were very resonant with people). i picked the movies over the game because i'm a guy who plays games at a snails pace, haha.

admittedly, i did latch onto ryomina because of the scenes in the third and fourth movie (i have mentioned in the tags of this art i drew how much i felt like i was exploding and blasting off to the moon watching it).

but what really dug me into the ryomina hole (and what has kept me there) was thinking about how much ryoji encapsulates the themes of p3- and how interconnected his fate is with minato. i wrote some musings about their dynamic here, if you're interested!

tl;dr: what if we were both boys and we were mirror images of each other and i inherited your kindness and looks but god doomed our narrative even though we're soulmates

on ryomina fanworks recommendations:

regarding fics: i'm going to assume that you've probably read the fics that have the highest kudo ratings on them, so i won't really be listing those.

a personal favorite fic that i always hold close to my heart is Eurydice's Vow by crescentmoontea, which explores the idea of ryomina in p5r's third semester. this was the first fic i read about ryomina and it made me tear up lots...

i also think a lot about I Alone Await You by Nail_gun, literally scrumptious writing that captures the ryomina dynamic so so well. actually check out Nail_gun's other ryomina fics while you're at it too!

other fun fic i'm fond of: can't get my mind out of those memories (what were they?) by foxmulder_whereartthou. ryoji being homeless lives rent free in my head and it's all because of this fic. there's a bunch of other fun ryominas from the same author too (i still need to read them)

these were some ones that came to my mind first- as i have the strongest recollection reading them. admittedly i haven't really been reading fic this year, so i don't have many recommendations from fic that came out this year. but if you're so inclined to let ryomina consume your soul, i definitely recommend giving the newer works in the ryomina tag a look-see and see if it strikes your fancy!

as a side note, i do have a few ryomina fics that i've bookmarked on my ao3 here, though i have to say that i'm not sure how well they hold up in terms of like... what i would seek out of a fic these days. but they made past me happy so i bookmarked them, LOL. it's kind of outdated (my collection of fic recs has my old username *disintegrates*).

regarding doujinshi: i have not read all the ryomina doujinshi available, but as a starting point, please take a look at this list from pandora-scans from livejournal!

notably, this is where you can find the strawberry-chan say good bye doujin- which features a small and cute comic from shuji sogabe (the p3/p4 manga artist), as well as other artists. the existence of this doujinshi is the funniest thing to me because it's like "HEY if you're wondering what the volume 8 cover is really gay it's because sogabe contributed to a ryomina doujin." this fact makes my head spin (positive). it explains a lot about the manga.

regarding persona side material:

i know you didn't ask for these but i thought that i mine as well list these too, since i feel that the side materials have some fun expansions on ryoji and minato's interactions. i haven't... watched/read all of these but, hey, i like to share these things!

for comic anthologies for the persona series (some of which have ryoji!). if you're interested in reading them, here's a scanlation index from maboroshi-no on tumblr. i don't think this is a comprehensive list, but i think it will be a great starting point!

Mostly because it’s succession traditions are currently kind of irrelevant because they’ve had the same emperor for…a very long time now.

However, once upon a time, before the era of Pixlriffs; the Ruler of Pixandria, High Priest of the Goddess of Death, Keeper of the Vigil, was chosen via DM-ing the gods, basically.

Back in ye olden days, that was something that was possible to do, before some Plot Relevant Historical Events happened, and basically the priests would walk into Trixtin’s temple and be like “Hey, who is going to be your next high priest and keeper of the vigil?” And she would point out someone like “I like that one, let’s see how they do!”

Obviously this involved a lot more ceremony, and prophetic dreaming, and formal language (though not really on the goddess’s part)

And then there would be a big party and a training period followed by and even bigger party where the current vigil keeper passed on the crown to their successor, who would then leave the (ongoing) celebration and walk out into the desert with no supplies and spend three nights out there “communing with death”. Only about 2-3 in 10 of them never came back. (Some of them died in the desert, some of them vanished, presumably being taken by Trixtin to serve her in other ways better suited to them.) When that happened they would wait for 42 nights and then try again.

Now Pix.

Pix’s journey to becoming Keeper of the Vigil was mildly unorthodox.

I will be writing this all out in his backstory fic, but the tldr is that first of all, the priests didn’t come looking for a successor, the current Keeper got knocked on their ass by Trixtin showing up in a vision like “yo dude, this kid is going to be the next Keeper.” (This is less paraphrasing than the official Pixandrian records admit to)

And then, after the big transfer party, when Trixtin’s blessing was officially bestowed onto Pix and he went into the desert…he didn’t come back. For a whole month. And, most terrifying for everyone else, the previous Keeper, who still held the official office until the successor returned, was assassinated about three weeks into that.

In a couple thousand years, the line of Keepers had never been broken. Ever.

The surviving government of Pixandria, some military and civil advisors, some mid-ranking priests, and the trade guild leaders, were scrambling. It was a very stressful time for everyone involved.

Until Pix strolled back into the Anthill, no idea he’d been gone that long, slightly dazed, and with a notable amount of grey hairs he hadn’t had when he left (he was not yet quite out of his teens).

Anywho, things happened, Plot proceeded to happen, and the fabric of the world changed in ways that lead directly into the events of the main story (both the Lizzie and Joel arc and the Main Cast Era Arc) and Pixlriffs is there for all of it.
