snw #9 (rewatch)
- hmmmmmmmmmmmmm La’an said she was with Dr. Sanchez, a headshrinker... is it the same Dr. Sanchez that was in TOS or is it just a name coincidence again (like Mitchell + Mitchell - even though we don’t know if that is just “a same name no relation” yet). Like Kyle is there now and will be in TOS too [like there’s nothing wrong with having same names, because people have same names without any relations, but it’s fiction].
- I still hate that they made Sam Kirk be the one insulting Spock (I mean as long as they also make it a thing with Jim Kirk at least once or twice in snw, then I’ll take it back, but if they ignore that Kirk was all “Will you try for one moment to feel? At least act like you've got a heart.” in WNMHGB then like it’s just erasing so much from their relationship) [I just want them to respect that Kirk wasn’t always respectful towards Spock; he did not understand Spock from the get go; sure he was impressed, he was intrigued, they bonded over loyalty, duty, mutual admiration, and chess, but Kirk was not 100% respectful until the very end. Still funny that their last conversation ever ended with Spock being “don’t be insulting” because Kirk called him human.]
- ah, okay, it was not just Hemmer’s death that affected Spock. It was Duke’s, too, and his own helplessness, then lowering his shields and then not being able to get them up again. I wonder if that will still continue in s2 (would probably explain a few things in the trailers). Kinda feels like they aim to completely break Spock, in order for him to become tos!Spock, but I feel like they forgot that Spock was still quite emotional at the beginning of s1 - smiling and shouting, still being quite violent etc. But we’ll see, maybe it’ll track. The thing is... Spock had a breakdown in Discovery, Kirk’s 5ym led him to Gol to purge his emotions*, and now they want to break him in order to make him less emotional... it just feels a bit too excessive
I guess this post is still very relevant...
* maybe that’s why they made it a point that it’s something all Vulcans do, so it doesn’t feel like Spock had a breakdown and decided to purge his emotions because of that, but rather as the next step on his path to being a Vulcan because that’s what Vulcans do (maybe that was always what it was supposed to be, but the fandom (novels included) made it appear to be something different idk, like I said, I haven’t seen TMP (and I ignore kolinahr when thinking about fics set in the movie era), but it always seemed like the general consensus was that Spock chose kolinahr because he couldn’t handle his emotions anymore...)
- I wish they showed more scenes between Spock and Hemmer. There was so much potential lost in s1, I feel, just because they focused too much on romance with Spock (again, as you could notice, I don’t mind the romance and I enjoy it, I just kind of don’t get why that was what they went with. I would also love to see more Pike and Spock’s scenes, because at this point they still just work with nostalgia and viewers knowing that they’re supposed to be close... but getting those scenes would just mean more Spock screen time, which is also not something I want, so it’s just ugh LMAO I mean as long as they keep any Spock and Kirk’s scenes also this shallow, then it’s fine lol)
- SST has the next preview picture be of Kirk and I’d hate that so much if that was my first time watching. Season 2 seems to have just promo pictures rather than a screenshot from the episode, which is way better.
- I think I might watch episode 10 and then start season 2 today too, but we’ll see.
I do kind of nitpick and have thoughts lol but I genuinely enjoy SNW and am curious where some of the stuff will lead

OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH IS SO GOOD!! No spoilers because I only watched up to episode seven (only with this ask on your other posts it doesn’t matter to me) but my friend and I are gonna finish it this Thursday!
Here’s some hcs I keep thinking about: 💖
Lucius is such a switch. He loves being the ler most of the time but he’s also incredibly ticklish. Something Black Pete takes advantage of a lot. Lucius gets his revenge though.
This scenario just popped into my head. Black Pete slowly raising Lucius’ arm up while saying “I’m gonna getcha.” Lucius is giggling and squealing the entire time despite not being touched yet. He tries to cover his mouth and underarm, then Pete strikes and tickles him on his ribs and under his arm making Lucius laugh hysterically and curl into his touch. 💖
Stede and Ed daily tickle fights. 👏 These two tickle each other all the time. I can see Stede saying tickle torture at one point as a suggestion for torturing hostages and Ed doesn’t believe it would work. Cue Stede smirking and saying, “Let me show you.” Let’s just say Ed is convinced. And uses tickle interrogation on Stede all the time over the smallest things.
Oluwande will sneak pokes to Jim’s sides to hear them shriek. Jim secretly likes hates it.
EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID >>>>>> i can’t not add onto ur thoughts, i have brain rot from this show
i love switch lucius cause he’s such an ass either way. if he’s being tickled, he’s gonna insult his ler the whole time and basically just provoke more tickles LMAO, he’s the definition of poking the bear. but when he’s a ler?? he is MEAN!! he’s such an observational person, so he’s able to find peoples worst spots in like a minute of tickling, and he will tease his lee relentlessly for it. “oh wow, this spots killer, huh?” “you’re quite ticklish here, wouldn’t you agree?” just making conversation with his lee like he isn’t literally killing them lol
also pls i need to talk abt lee ed <3 bc i LOVE the idea that ed didn’t know just how ruthless tickling could be until he met stede. he found out the gentleman pirate was ridiculously ticklish and has been abusing this knowledge consistently. and stede is fine with it, he rather likes a good tickling! but it’s not fair to be tickled so often without payback eventually, right? so one day stede finally struck on ed, digging and poking his fingers into his belly where the leather crop ended, and ed was a cackling MESS lmao. he kinda just let stede tickle him, only pushing stedes shoulders with no real fervor and cursing through cackles like the sailor he is, and stede finds it precious that ed obviously enjoys it <33
and do not get me started on lee jim omg, they have such a tough guy persona and giggling or playing of any kind is not what they’re used to. but then they meet olu, and he’s so caring and gentle and playful wtf, and jim can’t wrap their mind around why they enjoy that side of him so much when olu found out jim was ticklish after poking them repeatedly to be annoying, olu was thrilled. he immediately started squeezing at their sides and hips, and jim was scream laughing. they tried protesting through their laughter, but they never actually fought off olu, which he knew they were definitely capable of doing. “stop-!! i’ll muhurder yohohu, olu! NOHOHO-!” yeah they think it’s super fun but are super embarrassed abt it bc “jim’s so tough and strong, jim doesn’t giggle >:(“ but as long as it’s olu and it’s just the two of them…jim might giggle a little

Random and you've probably noticed how inconsistent Carl's personality is in Johnny Bravo. He can be a sweet little dope in one episode and a sarcastic little shit in the next. It depends on what the writers wanted to use him for in the episode.
no totally. i think they intended for carl to be both (i can explain). then he's also got so many issues, but on the other hand: remember how "creepy" they tried to make him? i fly, aunt katie's farm (🙄), etc. then by s3, it's sprinkled here and there but he feels more "normal" in comparison? sort of? lmao
carl was a retooling of the 'jim dandy' concept from the s2 bible (van + seth version). dandy was basically donny as an original character, but more importantly, he's— y'know what here's his bio except i highlighted everything that got shoved onto carl in some form
(putting that + more thoughts under the cut this is gonna get Long and disjointed. i love production bs)
Tumblr media
(didn't highlight it, but the 'never to[o] old to learn something new' part reminds me of the bravo 13 intro)
again, not to a T, but easy to tell what was reworked into carl's personality once the s2-3 crew took over. this includes his obliviousness, which ended up bouncing between outright fantasy and misinterpreting insults or social cues. it depended on what the writers thought was funnier at the moment ig (regardless, carl does have trouble with social skills like johnny, but in different ways.)
this is one of the biggest reasons why carl got reduced so much in s4. van brought osmond back as a guest star, taking the main "annoying cheery guy" role... for three episodes. so, carl's character is "annoying cheery guy" (ultra geek edition), but as merch proves, he was planned to be more of a sad and stereotypical (x2) little man... sometimes? who knows.
carl was likely created to be a better foil for johnny, who had the most going on, and for the variety in plotlines/punchlines. he definitely had more going on personality-wise than jim. even in the few comics based on bible carl, he's blunt as usual, smug, skeptical of johnny, whatever this mess is, but he is his usual enthusiastic self too. in a kid's book, carl's bio didn't mention that he's sweet or positive at all. his nerdiness was the focus, although those traits were associated with 'dweeb-y' or 'annoying' anyway so it pretty much blended together.
Tumblr media
("carl got nerdier" is the most interesting bit here. and "even more irritating" implies johnny hates it more when carl succeeds than he hates his nerdiness— and that really applied to anything in the show, not just dating.)
when it comes to the retooled bible as a whole and what's known about it, i'm gonna guess that the writers felt certain ideas (such as carl being too self-aware he's a 'loser' and 'uncool', johnny trying to get him to "man up", the list goes on) weren't going to make good gags in the long run. i think they also had to find a balance of edgy and goofy for the show that felt right/the network was comfortable with when they weren't trying to push the censors. that definitely would've affected their 'plans' for carl.
in particular, carl being the "hopeless pollyanna" type felt more effective VS. jim/osmond since the retool's world was darker and wackier. his optimism and fantasies (at odds with his Logical Nerd Traits) set him up for failure, similarly to johnny's entire deal. the focus was often more on the nerdy side of gags (again, blends together tbh), but carl got the short end of the stick either way. this goes for s4 too, for obvious reasons. not to mention, carl's "luck with the ladies"/interest in dating was only relevant in like four episodes. the point is, carl usually lost in some form.
TL;DR back on topic: carl being sarcastic and/or mean occasionally... kind of worked— for me. like, i just say damn. this is a lot. he feels like a ticking time bomb and one day he's going to physically explode. in all seriousness, i feel part of the humor/irony of the carl we got is that it's easy for johnny to get under his skin (doomates, chain gang, these, etc.) or bring out his smug and spiteful side, and carl tries to "[take johnny being an asshole to him] in stride"/not be resentful, but that's obviously going GREAT for him. although the writers focused more on carl's "annoying" goofiness over time, he wasn't created as a 100% saccharine guy. the balance was just executed in a very Episodic Comedy way, as you said; it depended on the plot, what jokes they wanted to make, etc. otherwise, i can't argue with "he's fucked up" as an excuse LOL. it's funny when carl's mean so mission accomplished. live laugh love <3

Why Bones & Spock NEED Each Other (Grief)
So over my tenure in this fandom I’ve seen some one sided stuff about Bones being mean to Spock, and vice versa and I’m like
Thing is y’all: You’re both right, but you’re also both wrong!
Bones is mean to Spock you’re right! But you know what? That’s a good thing!
Spock is mean to Bones because of course he is! And guess what? That’s also a good thing!
They both need it, and they can only get it (safely) from each other! What they have is (in a weird way) healthy! But it’s only healthy for these two specifically because they understand each other so well!
Prime examples? Somebody has died or gone missing (usually Jim)!
Let’s talk about how Spock & Bones grieve!
Let’s address how each character (generally) moves through the 5 stages of grief
Bones: Anger, Denial, Depression, Bargaining, Acceptance
Spock: Bargaining, Denial, Depression, Anger, Acceptance
They are each individually perfectly equipped to handle each other’s grief (or refusal to grieve)!
Bones initial reaction to death is usually Anger, he blames himself and anyone in proximity. Quickly followed by a weird form of denial, in which he doesn’t deny someone is dead, but he denies that other people think the person is gone and that they felt it when it happened because he’s dunked so hard under his own grief his usually high empathy has switched off.
Now, Bones is highly familiar with grief as a medical professional (and having lost his father). He establishes how important and deeply believes in that process in And The Children Shall Lead.
I think Bones is acutely aware of how he grieves, and is equally aware that throwing these feelings out at just anybody could really hurt them.
But Spock isn’t just anybody, he’s a (half) Vulcan, it’s like shouting at a brick wall, Bones knows Spock can take it. I also believe Spock understands that this state is temporary, which is why he handles it with such grace.
What happens when Bones isn’t able to go off at (not truly “on”) Spock is that Bones keeps that anger to himself and gets bordering-on-suicidal (Depression phase of grief). It happens in Miri (self injection), For The World is Hollow & I Have Touched The Sky (trying to stay behind), and The Empath (the whole freakin episode). Jim is good for comfort, but Spock is good for a slap in the face reality check.
They both know that. It’s why they’re still friends despite how much shit they throw at each other
Not only that, but Bones (almost) ALWAYS apologizes, from their worst fights I can rattle off:
“They were wrong, and I was wrong I’m sorry” (Paradise Syndrome)
“Pawns huh? Well if it makes any difference, this pawn is extremely sorry.” (Day of The Dove)
“Spock I- I’m sorry, it does hurt doesn’t it?” (The Tholian Web)
And that’s not including implied/non-verbal apologies.
Bones needs Spock to help him grieve because otherwise he’s gonna take an emotional nosedive toward attempted Martyrdom. Spock’s stoicism punctured by occasional genuiness helps Bones move to the Bargaining stage (making peace with Spock and everything that’s happened) and later Acceptance.
The inverse of this is also true so let’s address how Bones uses his belligerent nature to jump start Spock’s healthy grieving process!
Bones grieving style (and his confrontational nature in general) is uniquely suited to make Spock honor his Human side, his emotions in the matter. Because we know a softer touch (like Jim’s) while more comfortable for Spock, seldom cracks open that wall of emotional repression unless Jim’s in danger.
Bones doesn’t give a shit, and that ultimately a good thing! Both he and Spock constantly need to be directly shoved against their default reactions to interpret things in a balanced way, which is why they’re perfect for each other.
Without Bones, Spock would never let himself grieve, ever. We also know that, more deeply than Spock, Bones understands grief and how to move through it, he’s familiar with loss (which is why I think he’s so quick to accept someone is dead whenever it happens, it’s the reaction of someone whose had to lose a lot of people and is more comfortable grieving than hoping). There’s a lot of evidence for this in Gamesters of Triskellion & Return To Tomorrow.
He also honors Spock’s human half a lot more than Spock does, it’s one of the fundamental power sources for Bones & Spock’s “the racism’s mutual” banter. And it is mutual, I feel like people forget how often Spock compares modern humans to the worst examples of their/his ancestors and treats them as inferior out of internalized hatred and the general xenophobic attitudes of Vulcan culture. Bones of course responds in kind, usually in cockamamy insults, he’s not as well versed in Vulcan history as Spock is in Human. Although I admit Bones does start it a lot, I think arguing accounts as a love language for him lmao.
So when Bones sees Spock trying to stunt and stifle his grieving process, especially since Bones knows he’s at least partly human and it is affecting Spock’s judgement, it hits literally ALL of Bones nerves.
Bones uses reverse psychology to get Spock to admit he is human and he has feelings ALL THE TIME especially where Jim is concerned. Bread & Circuses, The Immunity Syndrome, The Tholian Web & Requiem for Methuselah!
Spock will absolutely refuse to grieve or at least move on from the self-destructive bargaining/denial loop he gets trapped in unless Bones smacks him around a little. Just like how Bones will get self-destructive unless Spock recenters him via logic.
Again, I think on a subconscious level they both know that, and it’s why they never take each other’s smack downs to heart.
An excellent example, Chekov’s “death” in Spectre of The Gun:
Spock isn’t grieving, but everyone else is, Spock was close to Pavel but isn’t letting himself feel it, which could later backfire. Bones is currently grieving, but there’s no time to grieve because they’re all gonna die in 20 minutes if they don’t find a solution to their dilemma.
Transcript & Breakdown:
Bones: You talk about another man’s [Jim’s] feelings? What do you feel Spock?!
Are you grieving? He was like son to you you’re not acknowledging it, again.
Spock: My feelings are not subject for discussion Doctor.
No, and I’m not going to, leave me alone.
Bones: Because there are are no feelings to discuss!
Well I’m grieving! And I’m gonna reverse psychology your Vulcan ass until you start your grieving process so that I can move on!
Scotty: Mr. Spock Chekov is dead! I say it now and I can hardly believe it, but you worked closely with him! That deserves some memorial!
Bones: Spock will have no truck with grief Scotty, it’s human.
Alright, that first comment didn’t work, maybe “insulting” him will get that thick head of his to acknowledge his feelings.
Jim: Bones! Scotty!
Spock: It’s quite alright Captain, they forget I am half human.
Fine, yes I am grieving for Pavel in my own way. Are you satisfied Dr. McCoy?
Bones: [looks surprised and thoughtful, satisfied with Spock’s answer]
Wow, you said you were human without any disgust this time... huh... good job.
Scotty:[looks ashamed]
The 5 o’clock duel bell rings.

Confessing UOs to you because you're always amusing about them but never judgmental: 1. Rachel Green is a worse person than Ross Geller and actually by far the worst person of all the Friends 2. I like The Office but kind of roll my eyes at all the gifsets making it seem like Dwight and Jim are actually brothers or close friends despite their rivalry, because aside from like seven or so scenes throughout all nine seasons, their dislike of each other was genuine and deep 3. It makes me laugh that Team Jess vs Team Logan battles are still waging because both guys are AWFUL and Rory is even worse 4. For the first season or two of TVD, I genuinely liked Elena a lot and (even more of a UO) liked her a lot more than I liked Caroline 5. Luke Danes was a good friend but lousy romantic partner in countless ways, and don't even get me started on him inexplicably going from "all in" to "out" over the events in Wedding Bell Blues that were very clearly Emily and Christopher's fault rather than Lorelai's and then lying by omission about the existence of his long lost daughter from his fiance until she happened to figure it out on her own. 6. Andie was my very favorite Dawson's Creek character---even slightly more than Pacey. Thank you for reading!!
lmao i feel like i've gotten this exact list before.
1. i honestly think pretty much everyone is the same on friends tbh, ross does shitty things, rachel does shitty things, joey does shitty things, chandler does shitty things. monica gets worse in the later seasons and phoebe is pretty much the least offensive even though everyone made it seem like ross was a horrible person for not playing along with her delusion that her mother was a cat and not a lost pet and i was like LOL this is fucking ridiculous. her being irritated that ross is trying to push his belief of evolution on her is valid but when she finally gets him to open his mind a little and then insults him for abandoning his beliefs had me like lol k. i'm not saying i wouldn't do that, i'm just saying that's pretty shitty.
2. i just stay away from fandom things relating to the office now because i see all of these things like, yeah no.
3. you seem like a blog regular and potentially a blog OG, i feel like you know how much i hate rory and logan and how much the romanticization of jess makes me roll my eyes. i only understand team jess vs team logan debates when it comes to who is the better boyfriend for rory i.e. not who is the better boyfriend period, not who is the better man period, but who makes the most trash sense for the trash character that is rory.
4. i never particularly liked elena but she is certainly less offensive as a character in the first three seasons even though she started off with major, major character holes. (season 1 caroline ftw though)
5. yes, i've heard this before, i can understand his reaction in wedding bell blues though. because let's face it, going to the wedding of your girlfriend's parents, your girlfriend who you waited like a decade for, whose parents you were already nervous being around because you know they don't approve of you, and then the ex showing up, saying that your girlfriend's mother told him it wasn't too late to be with her all the while reminiscing about history and throwing it in your face that he's the father of your informally adopted kid, then your girlfriend is like oh btw i saw him a while ago and didn't tell you about it, altogether that's pretty bummy. and he needed time to process that. he doesn't actually blame lorelai, he's just like, they're never going to accept me and things like this are just going to keep happening and he was working through his anger and embarrassment but lorelai just wouldn't leave it alone so he says what i'm thinking right now is i can't do this, this is too much and lorelai just took it as a ok well we're going to break up. she didn't give luke the time. but yeah, the whole april scenario was handled extremely poorly. and lorelai's best match was jason anyway. i forgot how much i really liked them together. still like luke and lorelai, though ;)
6. pacey was still my favourite but pandie ftw!

April 14: 2x15 The Trouble with Tribbles
Back to watching TOS on Wednesdays! We’ll see if I can keep this up because I do prefer it to Fridays.
Today’s episode: the Classic (tm) Trouble with Tribbles.
Starting out with a little test for Chekov lol. Just Chekov, his mentor, and his mentor-in-law.
My mom called Chekov “Kirk and Spock’s little project,” which I think is hilarious but also probably true. Only 22 years old and on the bridge crew? Private quiz by the top two people on the ship? Legit interpretation.
“It was just a little joke.” / “Extremely little, Ensign.” Classic Spock burn.
The Organian Peace Treaty--from Errand of Mercy??
I really do feel like Kirk is genuinely amused by Chekov.
You would never guess from this intro about tense diplomatic situations and number-one-top-priority-triple-red-alerts that this was going to be a crack-y episode about space bunnies.
Oh no, a fake red alert! Kirk is really angry now.
Kirk and Spock are very Married today.
STORAGE COMPARTMENTS?? StOrAgE cOmPaRtmEnTs?
WHEAT??
Do not try to imply that Spock doesn’t know things; he is contractually obligated to show off.
Canadian wheat.
Honestly, just let Kirk call it wheat.
Spock is using diplomacy to reign Kirk in. Sarek would be proud. And Spock would be insulted that Sarek is proud.
Kirk is very Sassy today.
Omg the waitresses have little wings.
Spock taking the wheat from behind his back and giving it to Kirk like a magician’s assistant.
I feel like Kirk is bitter about the wheat because it’s the one (1) thing he’s not a nerd about. And he’s from Iowa too!! He should know!
Uhura listening to the salesman; well she IS here to shop, after all.
Is it alive? Is it cute? Oh who am I kidding, I can see it’s cute!
Oh no the tribble is eating the grain.
Uhura is truly adorable.
I can’t believe she just made a joke about never getting any shore leave and here she is, back at her station again.
Can you even imagine AOS Kirk being tasked with protecting a bunch of grain? HE would make Iowa jokes.
And Spock is trying so hard not to laugh.
Tbh I have a real soft spot for these frustrated Kirk episodes. Poor, long-suffering Kirk. So much more serious than all of the nonsense going on around him.
I like this space station design.
Klingons on shore leave. They just want to have some fun. No bowling alleys on their ships!
Technical journal time for Scotty!
“I am immune to their effect....” Sure. What’s funny to me is that Kirk actually is immune to their effect. Truly at no point does he seem charmed or amused by or even interested in the tribbles, except in their capacity as Klingon detectors at the end
“I think they’re old enough [to be adopted].” Lol how can you tell?
One look from Spock reigns Kirk in. #spacehusbands
Oh, you noticed there are 11 tribbles instead of 1? How astute.
“What do you get when you feed a tribble too much?” / “A fat tribble.” This is ACTUAL DIALOGUE. Oh, Kirk.
Honestly McCoy is a medical doctor, so it kind of would make more sense for Spock to be doing these tribble experiments but he has his hands full with Kirk
Kirk is awfully insistent upon Scotty taking shore leave when he should very well remember what happened last time
“You’d think he’d be a vodka man.” And he is!
Klingons don’t understand Kirk at all. He IS a little soft <3
Where’s that post that’s like ‘the AOS writers just listened to this one Klingon speech about Kirk and wrote his character based on that?” I mean... not totally inaccurate.
Actually it is a potentially interesting speech. Is this really how his enemies see him based on his reputation? Or is it just, like, a bunch of generic insults you could apply to pretty much any captain of a group you didn’t like?
Poor Kirk, missing out on this fight scene.
Lol the drink joke. Does it make sense? No, but it’s funny all the same.
“Captain’s log: I am forced to cancel shore leave.”
Angry Daddy!Kirk and his unhelpful children. You’re ALL grounded!!
“No this is not off the record!” Not even gonna debate that Scotty.
This whole Kirk and Scotty scene deserves an Emmy.
Spones + Tribbles
The extra hilarious thing about Spock talking about the uselessness of the tribbles and Bones defending their cuteness as being an end in and of itself is that Spock DOES canonically like soft, pleasing animals. Even in this episode!!
The tribble wants to be captain.
Kirk collecting tribbles lmao.
“Don’t look at me, it’s the tribbles that are breeding.”
The tribbles are bisexual. Just like Captain Kirk. (Yes this is two different uses of the term that mean totally different things and I do NOT care I just like hearing the word “bisexual” in DeForest Kelley’s voice.)
I feel like Uhura must be so lonely.. Trying to talk to Spock about the moon. Meeting shape shifting aliens who become native Swahili speakers just for her. Trying to buy love in the form of small, cute animals.
The tribbles have been taken from their predator-filled environment. I am VERY curious about their native environment now. What eats tribbles?
“It’s you I take lightly.” Honestly this level of sass almost makes AOS Kirk seem IC.
“Licensed asteroid locator and prospector.” Brb changing careers.
“But he is after my grain!”
Kirk saying “au revoir” is funny on its face for how he echoes Cyrano what’s-his-face but also because it reminds me of Shatner saying “I’m from Canada, so I speak French.”
No, the tribbles got in his food! That is the last straw.
It’s hard to tell because it’s covered in tribbles, but Spock appears to have a very odd looking salad. (Or that large piece of fruit is a tribble, really hard to tell.)
Spock’s “fascinating” was so quiet.
“They’re into the machinery all right.” First, lol, and second, isn’t Scotty supposed to be in his room thinking about what he’s done?
You can really see that missing finger.
Gonna beam down some tribbles too.
And now to top off this bad day: the indignity of having a bunch of dead tribbles fall on his head. To wacky music.
“Gorged? On my grain?” It’s more likely than you think.
And like........you realize someone off set is just continuing to throw little puff balls at Shatner's head at regular intervals during this whole scene? One just bounced right off it.
And the answer to the tribble problem is literally “stop feeding them” which is so obvious that I assumed it was just harder than one would think not to feed a tribble. Since no one fed them. And they continued to eat.
I also love how Bones comes into his best friend literally buried in tribbles and doesn’t even blink.
Whereas Spock’s here with his mouth this thinnest possible line, trying not to laugh.
They like Vulcans! They have good taste.
Spock is definitely that type that has secret low self esteem so he builds himself up with confident comments at every opportunity.
“He’s a Klingon, Jim.”
Kirk REALLY likes threatening the Klingons with tribbles.
I feel like leaving Cyrano to single-handedly clean up the tribbles over 17 years is not a punishment that makes sense because like... must the station live with the tribbles until then? Also, where is he to put them?
I think they should be returned to their native habitat to be eaten by predators according to the natural cycle of life.
Are we to understand that SPOCK suggested beaming the tribbles on to the Klingon ship? Perhaps I have underestimated his prank war abilities.
I’ll be honest, this ep is very entertaining and for that reason one of my favorites, but I don’t know that it paints the Enterprise, and Kirk in particular, in the best light.
Like... I am really torn on Kirk’s treatment of the undersecretary. I know he often doesn’t much like administrators and diplomats and other people who don’t seem to have much RL experience, and certainly this Federation official got on his bad side immediately and understandably by misusing the red alert.
But... Kirk isn’t at all subtle about not liking him. I mean he literally says “I don’t like you” and that’s just objectively unprofessional, which he is not. The sassiness was way unsubtle, which could be funny, but it just didn’t seem IC.
I can almost justify it because of the red alert mix up--that’s everything Kirk hates: violating regulations, showing disrespect to him and his crew, uncalled for manipulation--and I think he has the right to be upset about it. But he continues holding this grudge for a long time. It feels like it’s just as much about not personally caring about the grain as about anything else. Like he’s dismissive about the grain because he personally has never heard of it. So obviously it’s not important.
That’s too much that conventional-wisdom arrogant, dumb Kirk for me.
I guess I just don’t understand, why so much hatred for the undersecretary? Because his two biggest sins were the red alert and employing a Klingon. But as I already said, I think Kirk’s ire is disproportionate to the first offense and no one knew about the Klingon until the end--because a tribble, not Kirk specifically, found him out.
Otherwise..this guy was right! The grain was important, losing it or having it sabotaged would have very bad consequences for the Federation, it is Kirk’s job to guard it, and he should do it well. He was also right that the Klingon threat was real!! He’d brought in the Klingon threat but he was still right about it existing. The Klingons did in fact sabotage the grain! And although we hear at the end that there was magically more grain out there... I don’t get how or from where.
Furthermore, he used the red alert specifically because he seemed to think Kirk wouldn’t rush over to protect the grain otherwise, and Kirk is so dismissive of this “just wheat” that he kinda proves the guy right!
Anyway, I can see the grains of this Kirk (lol pun not intended) in his general characterization, but it’s too over the top, to the point where it’s OOC. He does take his job, including the diplomatic aspects of it, very seriously, and I think an IC Kirk would protect the grain, and maybe be only occasionally, subtly sassy to the undersecretary.
But this was such a crack-y episode overall... it was like everyone was turned up to 11 and pushed slightly to the side.
It was a fun ep though with a lot of very classic scenes, and it’s another reminder that Spock likes soft, adorable animals.
I will admit that I actually do not think the tribbles are particularly cute. They kind of weird me out. They’re just lumps of fur.
Next is The Gamesters of Triskelion, which I vaguely remember as a decent but not great episode.

My problems with Avengers Endgame
For the most part, I like it. Could’ve been better. But here are my problems with the movie
The bad taste Thor fat jokes and mocking jokes about Thor's PTSD and depression....like really? Also nice of the Russos for throwing Thor's character arc out the window and abandoning his people....TWICE. Instead of taking responsibility and rule with Valkyrie as his equal, Thor just abandons his people just to be a Guardian....for reasons??????
Sidelining Carol. WHAT IS THE FUCKING POINT OF TEASING HER ONLY TO LEAVE HER ON THE FUCKING SIDES. NO SERIOUSLY, FUCKING WHY???  Why does Wanda get to unleash on Thanos, but Carol gets knocked around by Thanos? Fucking seriously? What kind of fucking bullshit is this. What kind of actual fucking disrespect is this horseshit?
Not making Carol and Maria married and being the representation fans wanted.  Carol’s butch lesbian look was more representation than a nameless guy saying he was seeing another guy.
Fridging Black Widow before her fucking movie even comes out, jesus fucking christ, they really went "you're getting a Black Widow movie lol lmao bitch you thought" it’s not just that. Natasha isn’t even given respect after her passing. She isn’t given a goodbye. All she gets is the men turning into whiny pissants and Bruce tosses a bench into the lake. Natasha sacrificed her life for her family and to stop Thanos and THIS IS THE FUCKING THANKS SHE GETS???
Gamora is still fridged. Past Gamora is loyal to Thanos. That makes no fucking sense. Did the Russos even WATCH Guardians Of The Galaxy? Gamora in 2014 was working AGAINST Thanos. She plotted on hiding the power stone away from Thanos. Present Nebula didn’t even need to convince her, she should’ve helped Present Nebula from the beginning. There was no need for it. Even worse, Strange couldn’t just bring Gamora  from a time before she went to Vormir. Gamora couldn’t have been spared her fate. And even worse. Both Gamora and Nebula are denied the revenge of the man who has abused, manipulated and gaslighted them their whole lives and they couldn’t be allowed the opportunity to kill Thanos? Fuck you.
Hank and Pierce's bad toupees
Not making Loki the rat who frees Scott and having it revealed and having Loki's grand dramatic slut return entrance. Loki just escaping with the Tesseract and  not doing anything with it is just dumb. But what’s really dumb is not having Thor and Loki escaping together in Infinity War while Thanos is fighting The Hulk. He had it and he didn’t use it. It just feels like Loki’s death was ultimately pointless now. And apparently Loki escaping with The Tesseract  was pointless, Loki is seen in his cell in Asgard....how the fuck is this supposed to make any sense at all? So honestly I would just have Loki be the very last one to return and reveal himself as the rat who freed Scott. It would make more sense than anything. Loki is the very thing that started The Avengers, it makes sense that he returns to help them against Thanos.
That fucking Hydra Cap reference, he needed to stay in cover, I know but we wanted to forget it ever happened
Once again the shows are screwed over. No Quake, Ghost Rider or The Defenders
Nebula does not kill Thanos.....fucking bullshit fuck you. Fuck you. Fuck you. Nebula should’ve killed Thanos. Nebula by far suffered the most and the hand of Thanos. She was abused, manipulated, and isolated because of him and he killed her sister. Additionally, all of her movies, but especially Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Endgame flesh out and develop her character quite well, giving the audience ample time to connect with her. Furthermore, a great portion of Nebula’s body has been replaced with metal, which we already knew from previous films but was highlighted in Endgame itself, when Nebula simply sticks her hand in the energy field surrounding the power stone to retrieve it, destroying the “skin” on her hand but leaving her “skeleton” intact. Because of this, it is likely that Nebula had a better chance of surviving a snap than any other Avenger (except for maybe Bruce), and the cinematic payoff of allowing her to be the one to kill Thanos would have been far greater than letting Tony kill Thanos. You could even have Thanos say “I am inevitable daughter” Nebula could have a Eowyn moment “I am not your daughter” and finally Nebula would kill him. Nebula deserved to kill Thanos. And since Nebula was the one who snapped, we know Gamora would return, maybe since they worked together, Nebula would bring back Natasha. Like they all fought to bring an end and bring everyone back. Gamora and Natasha deserved to return and reverse the bullshit fridging. Tony could return to his family and once again they didn’t have to make Far From Home of making Spider-Man be “the new Iron Man” Tony could retire in peace and tell Peter “the world is in safe hands of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man”
Steve Rogers abandoning his found family and the horrible implications of Steve staying in the past. Before I talk about the implications, I just need to say it makes no sense. Steve made peace with his life in the new world. Peggy wanted Steve to move on, Steve grew as a character. He even saw Peggy was happy in Endgame(however I would’ve had Peggy be seen with her wife Angie, yes fuck ABC I am still bitter) and Peggy herself said she was happy with her life. It makes no sense for Steve to just abandon Sam and Bucky just to be with someone he kissed once. I honestly would’ve been happy if he chose to sacrifice himself to bring Natasha back. I would even be happy if Steve came back, married Sharon and chose to retire, and pass on the Shield to Sam. Just anything is better. It’s not a satisfying conclusion to Steve Rogers’ character arc.  A satisfying character arc means more than giving the character a prize at the end of the story. Women are not prizes. Peggy Carter is not a prize. Peggy Carter would slap the shit out of Steve Rogers if she knew he threw his life away just to be with her and ruining her own life in turn. Even if I didn't like how they paired Peggy with Daniel, even I understand that Peggy moved on and found love and married a man who lost his leg for his country without superstrength or fame, and they had kids. Steve took away Peggy's agency, destroyed her family and ruined his own journey. Even more insulting is the fact that Bucky Barnes was brought back to life and Steve barely acknowledges him. Ever since The Winter Soldier, Steve’s journey has been focused on Bucky and he barely even acknowledges him. He fought a fucking war that split The Avengers for him and he STILL does not even have one last moment with him? What the fuck? But you know the real stupid thing about this? Tony and Natasha died just so to make the world a better place. The better place that Steve then leaves at the end of the movie. Steve’s entire character arc throughout the MCU would be opposed to altering the timeline for his own selfish desires. This is not the Captain America I know. You’re seriously telling me that Steve Rogers didn’t value his present friends, possible girlfriend and life even a little bit? What has been done to Steve Rogers is unforgivable and I would rather Steve dies sacrificing himself in bringing Thanos down. That would’ve been a better send off than ignoring everything about his character arc. As for the implications about going to the past? He knows about the future, he knows HYDRA infiltrated SHIELD, he knows Bucky is being used as their weapon and will kill the Starks, he knows that Peggy, Howard and Hank are surrounded by Hydra,  he even knows about the civil rights fighting. it’s a little alarming Steve Rogers’s idea of a retirement plan was to go back to the jim crow era to cuddle up with his old flame. Apparently a happy ending for Captain America is a white man in the US. He went back to an era where a cis het white man would feel very safe and comfortable. He doesn't choose to fight for Civil rights in the 60's(how is Sam supposed to feel that Steve did nothing for the movement?), Steve and Peggy don't crack down the Hydra infestation and there isn't a Bucky rescue. Like really bad implications

The Haves and the Have Nots S4 Ep19: Haunted By The Surname*Recap & Review* #HAHN
Episode Rating: (9) Excellent
The biggest bomb has finally been dropped. Candace finds out her son is dead. Omg!!! What will she do? It was also good to see, and Candace does love someone other than herself. She loves her brother, Benny. Let's jump into the recap and review. It's time to discuss The Have and the Have Nots.
I was waiting for Candace response to Charles fix it method for Quincy's murder. I guess he also felt Candace was heartless. Candace turns down Charles offer. She could have it all with the most powerful man in the world; however, it would cause her brother's freedom. Candace refuse to let Benny go down for a murder he didn't do. Charles must have dig so deep into Candace's life. He knows way too much about everything. He seemed surprised that Candace made it clear, she would turn herself in before allowing her brother to go to jail. Charles doesn't know that kind of love. That's confusing because he has kids. Charles wants to take Candace to the inauguration. Being that she is wanted for murder, that wouldn't look good for him. Quincy's death is too public; someone has to take the blame for it. Candace can't believe Charles set her brother up for the murder. It all appeared to be smothering Candace. She asks Charles to leave her hotel room. By not agreeing to set Benny up, Candace gave up her start over opportunity.
It may be hope for Wyatt after all. Looks like he was trying to get his life in order.  I am trying to understand how Anna is going to fit into this. Her and Wyatt flirt with each other a little. She is going to be staying with Wyatt for awhile. To keep Wyatt sober and clean a plan has to be done. Wyatt completed a questionnaire. Interesting he wanted to be a firefighter. Wyatt feels like his life always been controlled by Jim and Katheryn.  Maybe it has but can't blame his choices on his parents.  Wyatt has been through a lot, but his choices are on him. I think this time he will indeed stay clean. I also wish he stop seeing Jeffrey as a gay man that's in love with him. He is, but he is more of his friend who loves him. Anna seems to be making some breakthrough with Wyatt. However, I think his biggest test of sobriety is on the way. He gets a call from George about Jennifer Sallison. George tells Wyatt that Jennifer is dead. Wyatt knows his parents have the motive to kill her. Will he give his parents up?
Back at the police station, Veronica was able to get Hanna a visit with Benny. I swear Veronica never miss a chance at wearing her B card. Meaning her bitch card is always being played. She knows Hanna is Benny's  mother not his grandmother. Smh. While Hanna visits Benny, Katheryn and Mitch sit in the lobby waiting. Katheryn questions Mitch on about his friendship with Benny. She makes a statement about his last name being powerful. We all know Mitch use his last name for power when he needs too. Other than that, he is just Mitch. Now Mitch is sexy, Katheryn's eyes aren't blind. She starts flirting with Mitch. She tells him I can use a man like you. Lmao. Mitch asked, " How much are you paying?" This scene was too funny. Mitch got away from Katheryn so fast. Remember, he clowned Benny for sleeping with Veronica. Mitch, older ladies need love too. Lol!!!
The hurt in Benny faces when he saw Hanna was powerful. That was a look of mama I am sorry for disappointing you. The love he has for Candace got him in this position. Hanna asked Benny again, "Did you kill Quincy?" Benny refuses to answer, but Veronica is sitting in on the visit. He can respond to the question, and the police can't use anything being said to his lawyer. Sadly, he can't say too much because Jeffrey is Veronica's son and his attorney. But he told Hanna who killed Quincy. Benny mentioned the Secret Service asking for his DNA. Veronica knows that isn't good. She gets up to handle that situation. Now Hanna and Benny can honest talk. Before Veronica leaves, she tells Benny to watch what he said. Once she is gone, Hanna asked Benny, "Did Jeffrey Harrington really kill Quincy?" Benny tells her, "yes but I can't say that in front of her." Veronica has a conflict of interest in this case. Regardless of her hate for her son sexuality, she will still protect him. Hanna blames everything on Candace. You can't deny that this whirlpool of events, lead right back to Candace. She has cost Benny so much already. But, why is Candace so messed up? Hanna played a role in that. What is her and Hanna beef with each other? I am lost on that issue. But Hanna is wrong on one thing, and Benny knows best; Candace doesn't know her son is dead. Regardless of the news coverage, she knows nothing. She doesn't have a phone, and when she did, she answers Benny's call. Hanna is very upset about the two men she loved most being affected by Candace's decisions. So much is happening at once. She asks God for relief and Benny telling her to calm down. So much heartache in Hanna's heart right now.
Veronica makes a phone call. She is trying to get information on the Secret Service agents. Right now, no one knows why they are involved. Once she enters the police lobby, Justin approaches her. Justin asked her to delete the recording she made. Veronica laughs at him. She is going to destroy Justin. Justin doesn't realize Veronica is a toxic, heartless and devious woman. She truly is about to expose him. Can Justin get out this predicament with his double life still being a secret?
Candace visits Erica. We soon find out what we thought was a friendship truly isn't a friendship. And am I the only one who think Candace and Erica had a sexual encounter at one point. How was Erica going by fixing her stress? Hmmmm. Candace vented out her troubles with Charles. She can't tell Erica too much, but Charles has Candace spooked. Candace is a new Path now, a high and powerful path. I don't think she ready for this lane. She tells Erica how Charles once her to let Benny take the fall for Quincy's murder. Sometimes it's best just to listen. Erica makes the fatal mistake of saying, "that's not a bad idea." Before you know it, Candace smacks the crap out of Erica. Girl, no way that should have happened. Candace uses to pimp Erica and made it clear she wasn't good at being a show. Lmao. Insult and a smack, hell no!!! Erica also made a mistake at leading Candace a dress with War's smell of cologne on it. When she questioned Erica, she didn't have any interaction with War. We know that's a lie. Did Candace believe her? If she didn't, she made it clear she will throw her out a window. Maybe Erica isn't time enough for Veronica as I thought. Hmmmmmm!!
Jennifer Sallison's body is about to be a problem. George arrives at the County Jail. He questions Katheryn about Jennifer being at her house. Car tracker and phone records place Jennifer's last whereabouts at the Cryer Mansion. Katheryn keeps her calm, but Veronica tells her not to say another word. Regardless of how much they hate each other at this point; if one goes down; they all go down. Veronica tells George, he knows better to be questioning her without a warrant. He makes it clear he will get one. Man, this episode had a lot of punch lines. George says to Veronica, "You sure representing a lot of people." Lmao!! Duh, isn't she a lawyer!!! Lol. Veronica tells Katheryn to meet her at her house in 15 mins. Katheryn doesn't trust Veronica, but at this point, she has no choice. They in this together whether they want to be or not.
Jeffrey visits Melissa in the hospital. Her mother walks in just as Jeffrey was trying to convince Melissa things will get better. He soon finds out, Melissa's mom is just as crazy as his mother. I understand why she says her father is the only person who loved her. How does her mother whore her daughter to a crazy woman for financial stability? What mother wants her daughter to have a baby by a gay man? Doris, Melissa's mom, basically tells her to grow up and get it together. She comes for Jeffrey by saying he likes hands jobs. Lmao. At times, you know Jeffrey is Veronica's son. He can become a queen when need to. He fires back with, " Gay or straight, and anybody can like a hand job." Lmao!!! He has a point. LMAO. Doris tells Jeffrey, Melissa will not be a problem anymore. She leaves. Melissa and Jeffrey agree that both of their mothers are crazy. At Melissa's request, Jeffrey leaves. I honestly feel the two need to become a best friend. They are stuck with each other at this point. They need to come together and find a way through this together.
Finally the bomb drops in Candace world. Charles was the speaker at a gun control event. At that event, he learns the little kid who was just murdered is Candace's son. Charles and Landon knock on the door. Candace isn't in the mood to deal with Charles. Charles tells her that her son is dead. For the first time, you see a side of Candace that has been lost throughout every season. We finally see her heart. I mean a fragile, tender and vulnerable piece of her heart. Even Landon felt a little empathy for her by the look on his face. As the tears flowed down Candace's face, she screamed for them to get out. At that moment for once, I felt sorry for Candace. At that moment for once, she knew she was the blame. Did you hear her say, "what did I do?" However, how much you want to bet she blame Hanna when she sees her.
Now that the cops know Jennifer was last at the Cryer mansion, Veronica has her plan. Veronica is pouring gasoline all around the house. Katheryn arrives and asked her what she was doing. Veronica states, "no evidence." Veronica refuses to go down for killing a District Attorney. Honestly, you can't blame her for that. Katheryn truly got them in a jam this time. Jim made it worst by pissing off Mama Rose. Katheryn doesn't want to burn her house down but honestly that house only has bad memories of her. If love once existed, it faded long ago. Why not burn all those bad memories? Katheryn gave in. Burn baby burn. The Cryer mansion is now on fire.
Stay tuned in! Two more episode left for this season. Who will survive and who will die? Somebody have to die because war has been declared. Catch up on The Have and the Have Nots on Comcast On Demand or download the OWN app.
