I think it’s a little silly for people to brush of Annie as a tomboy ish person at her core and get mad at people to say that she wouldn’t want to dress a little more feminine for herself/ and or armin as time passed and she grows into her own person.

to me I think Annie’s disinterest in any personal care or “feminine” things for the most part would be because her dad literally beat her into just being a weapon for Marley so she never really indulged in any of that stuff not even a thought of it, so comfort over anything was the way to go.

so it’s always a little silly for me to write off Annie as someone who doesn’t care for those things cause she never got the chance to even experiment. It’s kinda how everyone was mad she was in love with armin and thought she was the person to never want love when that’s not at all true!

sorry for the rant I just hate that misconception so much 😞

I think the primary thing about headcanons is that we may never really know, particularly for a character like Annie who lost out on pretty much all of her formative year due to the crystal and her upbringing. Personally, if I were to call her "tomboyish" I go off of what I know about her during less serious moments, like the clothes she sleeps in, what she wore on her days off during during military training

(also, not sure I'd use the word tomboy to describe her(?) Gabi or Nanaba is what I think of if you say a tomboy in aot, but not really Annie. It's an entirely different Energy TM rather than just style)

Another thing I like is Annie would be in a very interesting situation, getting to build her own identity are a time were all her peers are mostly done. She'll have the general struggles of your average 16 year old, but everyone around her is well into their 20s, "including" her.

but also, practicality doesn't necessarily have to be the opposite femininity. I'd argue that Hitch is an example that takes the impracticable approach towards clothes, hair, makeup, and accessories, while Pieck is much more functional. I think I'd very much like to see Annie's own take on it, which I think leans more towards a ring or a new haircut were she keeps it down instead of a permanent messy-bun (as much as I love it on her) the part where Annie uses 12-in-1 shampoo is mostly a joke/meme

I think while we headcanon her clothing style as more "practical" it's also comfortable, that's something she never got to be, she never got the chance to take things slow, and not keep protective walls around her with sharp words and threats, being a little more soft and vulnerable when toughness was demanded of her at such a young age

At the end of the day, we all headcanon our beloved Annie a little differently post-canon. I think the only thing you might see lots of "brushing off" of is her in high heels make up and accessories everyday.

it was a good idea to make one sub-unit gain some prominence before all the others. gives a little tension to the group.

honestly, i started to wonder if they actually went to school. this episode is tying up several loose ends lol.

also, it's been a few episodes since the reveal but ritsuko is a underage (from drinking at least)??? she is dressed like a middle aged woman, and she talked all about how she tried to be an idol when she was young. hellooooo

this episode was less goofy and more about practicing. which was still fun, but not as fun. i remember how superstar just skipped practicing. the girls got to manifest songs and outfits, it's fine. but idolmaster is of course building up to something different too.

my least favourite running gag is the series forcing makoto, who wants to be feminine, into more masculine/androgynous looks. she tries to be grily, but the characters deny it and the narrative ridicules her for it. only cheers for her when she's stuck in the box they put her in.

i'm reminded by the love live episode in the original series, where rin was feeling insecure about being too tomboyish, so they dedicated an entire episode to her where she got to feel pretty in a wedding like dress, she got to sing her solo, and hanayo lowkey confessed lol.

(also that only girls cheer for makoto because she's masculine is infuriating too, cause makoto is by all means probably straight and wants a man. but because she's boyish. but i'll give the series a pass for actually canonically having a minor character who was a lesbian.)

episode still filled with a lot of great gags. i love pretty much all of the actual cut-aways and the concepts for those, even if i still find the whole idols doing television stuff weird. (basically all male fans, and i just think why the girls want this?)

didn't chihaya just want to sing? and now she's stuck presenting this lazily put together show. but we did get a cool gurren lagann esque movie preview out of it, so... can't stay too frustrated.

Let’s see… how to start with Fiore. When she first saw him, she did feel a bit intimidated and scared—but that can also be attributed to the fact that their first meeting, she was already being hassled by some goons so she was like ‘oh dear, just my luck. Another one.’ He did quickly prove her wrong though. He also was very quick to shoot lol, but given her father/brother, she’s not all that scared by guns as a concept? She was more impressed. Then knowing he has a bit of a gentleman-esque attitude to him, there is a feeling of being impressed and feeling secure when she looks at him.

Admittedly, she does feel a bit confused when he treats her nicely or is polite/gentlemanly towards her as she’s not all that used to it. (Lore context time hohoh) Fiore had a bit of a tomboyish streak when she was younger? A bit more wild and energetic. You may think that’s okay but for the time period, that certainly doesn’t bode well. So at some point, after some ladies had spoken ill about her, that’s when Fiore’s mother started becoming very strict with her. She can’t have a daughter be the reason she gets looked down upon by other ladies in the social circle. Still, some old impressions are hard to forget, so many people still associate Fiore with how she was when she was younger.

It doesn’t help that her temper does tend to leak when she’s around her brother or around people who have known her since forever. So, a lot of the guys who grew up around her, a lot of them don’t really treat her like they would your average lady. They kinda bring up her past as a way to upset her because it’s funny to them to see what they can do to make her façade crack. They make it into a game of sorts. Also talked about the whole thing with the military, and so some of the guys there treat her like thirsty wolves if her father isn’t around. In other words, she’s not used to being treated decently. Sadge.

All this to say, when she sees him, she does feel a bit of confusion as well as gratitude. He treats her like a regular person ought to be treated and so she feels comfortable around him. So this brings about a thought that he’s just a really nice person, despite how he looks. So, she has the image of him being a kind person who isn’t afraid to just assert a strong foot if needed. She hasn’t yet clued into the fact that he likes her. Due to the fact that she feels that she herself is lacking, she doesn’t think he’d like her romantically. She often is in trouble when they meet, so it’s more likely (in her mind) that he lowkey feels annoyed by her.

So, there is a bit of insecurity and anxiety she feels when she sees him because she thinks lowly about herself. That said, why does she continue to meet with him anyways? It’s probably due to the fact that he’s nice to her and has been patient with her up until now, so she also feels hope that maybe he would find her okay to be with. I hurt myself with this. ((OOC: I uh… failed to keep it UNDER 12, but I managed to STOP at 12? That sound count for something))

Fiore being deemed unladylike and a bad choice for a wife, G was probably considered your standard hoodlum at the time as well. But they both have that layer underneath that they see in each other, G seeing a potential wife in Fiore and Fiore realizing in spite of his looks and roughness he's still a gentleman with her and nothing like actual hoodlums she's put up with.

Lol I recall us talking about that though that Fiore might not get the hint that he likes her and is thinking something akin to "oh G's a really nice guy." just for Asari or Giotto or someone else in the family to be like "Him? Nice? Are we talking about the same guy?" Which is a wonderful way to find out all the potential shit your new bf has possibly done and not told you, but also plays up the fact that no matter how much you think you know a guy, you don't know him like his boys do.

And yes, they both have their own insecurity I think and I feel like that's something they can help each other heal from. Just constant reassurance that this is their own choice, to hell with what their families wanted for them, because considering my headcanons for G I feel like he's estranged from his family possibly for his own reasons, or another route I thought of taking with it to bounce off the fact that Fiore at first feared they might be hostile to military forces as well as the cops, what if G had a military background in his family too. Like what if he came from an Army family and his dad had all this ambition of turning him into a soldier and it failed? How do you think that would work with her?

20: oc that sings! well i do kinda want the boardwalk characters to form a band, and DJ would likely be the lead singer. her voice in general is pretty feminine sounding but with a tomboyish bite to match her appearance and personality, but idk what she'd sound like singing lol. as for favorite music, not sure of any specific songs but she definitely likes more rock/alternative and like a few old-ish pop songs. probably plenty of 80s/90s stuff too. she's also a literal DJ and her music taste is pretty prominent in the stuff she plays. she also for sure knows how to play electric guitar and gets crazy with it.

24: if i could meet one of my ocs? like of course i'd go with parker. i put a lot of me and a lot of the traits i enjoy in him. i'd talk to him about our struggles and then probably play video games with him. putting aside all the angst i think we'd be besties

25: oc that most closely resembles me? well vertigo is probably the closest because he also functions as one of my personas, so most of his appearance aside he's just me but perpetually tired and with cool powers. like i could say sharky too but again like. he is JUST me as an adult in an ideal world so i dont consider him an oc. although of my non-personas, i'd yet again have to say parker. brown hair, brown eyes, parents that suck, lover of sharks, ADHD energy, generally kinda weird, especially about guys. big difference though is that he's bi while i'm not. nor am i a 5'10" cis guy like him lol

28: most DANGEROUS? probably vertigo. i mean just look at all the scars rowdy has. his fault for picking a fight with vertigo though. like vertigo's generally pretty docile but he's very likely to win in a fight with the powers he has. other than him you don't wanna mess with hot-rod or ding. they both hit the gym and know how to fight. although you're FAR more likely to rile up hot-rod, but why would you even want to when he could probably crush your spine just by squeezing you too tightly. oh yeah also bubbles can kick ass

50: it's getting late at the time of writing this so i'll keep it to smth brief: boardwalk of beasts and vertigo's oc world both have canon ships, but gang's bay is pretty much free game for shipping. really the only rules are no problematic ships and to respect canon sexualities (sharky is mlm, bubbles is a lesbian, milkshake is aroace), and be extra careful if you wanted to ship shipwreck with anyone, for obvious reasons. but im down for pretty much anything. you have my full permission to ship sharky with any of the guys, bc frankly i'd be dtf with any of em. also i think ship names will be super fun with the gang nicknames. like screwbox for example. fun! also bubbles and hot-rod did date during college so im ok with depictions of that too but not like actively shipping gang-era them if that makes sense.

I'll assume you mean my ML OCs, so, in reverse order of creation:

Suhayla - A friend of Alix and Freddie's, when people see the group they assume she's the mature soft one, so they're often shocked by how loud her voice is. I haven't developed her too much so I'm still working on her personal style - somewhere between a tomboyish desire to be sporty but liking feminine colors? I think she'd be the most diverse in her wardrobe.

The only real details I've solidified is that she skateboards, is on a roller derby team (where she, Freddie, and Alix mostly meet up), and she's part of Adrien's fan club. But I've also decided she's the kind of fan that is content viewing Adrien as a celebrity, almost fictional character and has no want to meet or get closer to Adrien, despite them going to the same school now:

Freddie's supportive but Suhayla is kinda mortified at the idea of meeting the person who's centerfold she's gushed over thank you very much.

I think she'd have a little brother who's maybe a year or two younger. I want to flesh her out more so I can think of a good akuma for her! Maybe she should have an out of place career goal, like being a software engineer?

Frédérique (or “Freddie”) - I decided from the beginning Freddie would be into Decora Kei who loves rainbows and pastels. Later I decided to have her go to the same school as Kagami (and Ondine), though I haven't decided her sport focus yet. Maybe something surprising like Rugby? I feel like she'd be Alix's inspiration for dying her hair pink.

Despite the fact I draw her more than Suhayla in my sketchbook, Hayla's gotten more spots in Scarlet Lady, whoops! I kinda picture her like the big sis of the group despite her not having any siblings, and I want her to have minimal hardships lol.

Look at her. She's an icon. I'll give her all the accessories I wish I had. Part of me thinks she'd get akumatized for being targeted by the teachers for "dress code violations" (as in they invent rules that specifically target her despite others getting caught in the damage, like only neutral colored nails or limit one hair accessory) but I might be projecting my deep seeded hatred of dress codes.

Tama Rapporte/Shiba - If you remember the Great Hiatus and how it gave birth to the akumasona/miracusona craze, then that's Tama's origin story. 16 year old French-Japanese adopted daughter of the Rapporte family of 5, Tama likes Volleyball, Gymnastics, and Flowers. She's the delivery girl for her family's Floral Shop "Fetching Flowers" and transforms into "Shiba" with the help of the Dog Miraculous (remember, this is before the Zodiac were canon lol).

Her kwami Spittz eats chocolate, which is often stolen from Tama's sister's stash, meaning Tama's alter ego was quickly discovered by her. Luckily her sister doesn't care so long as Tama RESTOCKS HER CHOCOLATE!

Since she's a "miracusona", despite being a separate OC and not a self insert, a lot of my personality was injected into her. You can search my #tama tag to see quite a few comics I drew in her hay-day.

Zoe Rapporte - (Honestly I need to redraw this again because I've got a pixie cut again lol) Since this is a literal self insert, this is my akumasona, who is transformed into the "Enchanted Florist" almost as many times as Mr. Pigeon - thanks to customers.

She's the active manager of her family's flower shop because she's never really wanted to do much of anything. She figures this way her sisters can do what they want to do without worrying about Mom and Dad's "legacy" and since she lacks dreams of her own she's not put out.

Everyday is a trial for Zoe while Hawkmoth is around.

Ok heads up: from now on I'm gonna put anything involving crossdressing or cross-gender stuff under the forced fem tag (#tw: ff) in addition to the misogyny tag bc I know that can be a sensitive topic for some people and I don't wanna accidentally trigger anyone (・m・ )

I love tomboy darling so much tbh and I know it's very controversial (which is why I tag it) but... I am also a fan of intentionally deceptive crossdressing. Like darling intentionally trying to make people think she's a boy (or the other way around, that's nice too). But just normal tomboyishness is good too tbh. I like hyper-feminine fem darling too, both are very interesting dynamics.

I'll probably get more in detail about individual boys eventually (esp bc I really like this concept with a Zhongli/Childe/Diluc type so I'll make posts for them eventually) BUT a general summary:

I feel like the worst for tomboy/crossdress darling is probably Diluc or Zhongli or Xingqiu bc they're gonna have to Change That(tm). Help you fill the waifu fantasy in their head. Especially Xingqiu/Diluc like... You know you have to fit the rich people trophy wife norms so they can show you off! How can they show you off to their rich visitors and not feel emasculated if you're not hyper submissive?? You might not like it now, maybe fight it even, but eventually you'll see they were right all along and you're a lot happier molded into a waif :) also bc if darling is strong and can protect herself it threatens their poor fragile masculinity which is hilarious tbh. Nooooo you can't protect yourself and kill those monsters that's his job :( You can't have a job that pays a lot how is he supposed to fill his savior complex and impress you with buying you nice things?? How are you gonna respect him as an authority when you have a position of power?? Hence it significantly speeds up how quickly you get... Removed from you original environment.

Also Childe and Kaeya and Scara would be pretty terrible too. Very mocking about it, always pinning you down to remind you how much stronger they are bc you seem to always forget and try to fight. Call you princess and the like just to see you squirm. Force you to say degrading things about yourself. The strength is... Irritating to them. You actually land a few blows and can struggle out of their grasp and that pisses them off and just makes them rougher. But tbh they like it because they like the fire/fight darling has, they enjoy the brat taming process. They also have the "no you can't protect/provide for yourself only I can" complex though.

The best... Probably Bennett or Chongyun or Razor, but Razor's got pros and cons tbh.

The former two, it doesn't really matter, if anything you can go on more adventures with them :) and other guys won't know and will stay away from you, which is great. It relieves a lot of his fears. And if you're a more dominant personality, well, that's fine too, they're pleasers and will do anything you want! I could actually see both of them really being into tomboys actually. They're both nervous boys and feeling like they can relate a bit more helps ease their nerves, whereas they're a lot more stuttery/blushy around a highly femme darling.

Razor... Granted the major con is he still gets irritated if you're not very obedient and has the breeding thing going on, but if you want to dress or carry yourself a certain way, he couldn't care less. He doesn't really get any of that anyway. Him with a highly feminine darling is its own pretty funny dynamic (which I will discuss eventually lol) but with a tomboy it's also kinda funny bc he just *shrug* doesn't care, it's kinda the same idea as a male darling like... He falls into the latter category. He's also very good at laughing off defiance, but he can be pushed to a snapping point more easily than Chongyun/Bennett. And he will fall a bit into the "nooooo you can't protect yourself that's my job" similar to the other boys.

I got a little carried away with names today. Started with Sweden then went all over the place lmao. I'd like your guys' opinions on the names I've chosen before I ever use them in published works.

Sorry for the long read in advance ^^

Sweden: Berthold— I just like it. Not 100% sold on it though. He still has his canon surname as, as far as I know, there are no issues with it.

Denmark: Mikkel Hanssen— I just like it lol.

Ladonia: Oscar(or Oskar)— Its pretty sweet which is why I'm pretty sure Sweden would have chosen it for him. Not sure which spelling I like better. Shares a surname with Sweden.

Liechenstien: Lotta Vogal— I like em both. Not super sure how correct in origin or popular Lotta is as I keep getting mixed results, often talking about Scandinavian origin and bringing up the name Lottie and how popular that is in America. But it does mention how its used in German speaking countries.

South Italy: Lorenzo— Its from both Italy and Spain so I think it fits Romano well. The meaning not so much but Romano probably picked it because that's how he'd like to see himself one day??

Rome: Gaius Vergilius Crispus— The praenomen Gaius comes from the same root as gaudere, which means to rejoyce, happy which fits Rome to a T. His nomen is Virgilius as a reference to poet Publius Vergilius Maro(Virgil). Crispus as his cognomen because of his curly hair. I wanted Romulus to be his praenomen, however Romulus is not a praenomen whatsoever. It seems to be a nomen. I'm quite fond of Virgilius though to be honest. I actually had to deep dive this one to make sure everything was correct(meaning and order). The praenomen are the given names and those weren't normally used outside of the family(meaning only Romano and Italy would call Rome Gaius). Rather it was either their nomen or cognomen used freely. So I had to keep the importance of each name in mind; I couldn't really find the meaning behind Virgilius except that it is the latinized version of the english Virgil.

Seborga: Alonzo— Finally found a name for Seborga that I think fits better than Romeo! Well I'm still not sure of it for the long run but it does fit better than Romeo at least(in my opinion).

Italies' surname: Russo— Not super sure of this one. Its Sicilan/Southern Italian in origin but quick google searches repeatedly tell me that it has spread to other regions due to internal migration. It's also the second most popular surname in Italy(or that's at least what several sites have told me). I'm not sure if Russo is a good name for all three of the Italy brothers, but I do think its at least a plausible one for Romano. And as Romano is the older brother, perhaps Veneziano just took it some time after unification? Maybe to try and feel closer to the brother he barely grew up with?

Greece's surname: Katsaros— I dunno about this one still. But curly-haired is at least better than being a watermelon. Might change later, might not.

Cyprus: Demetris Georgiou— Not super sure about his name as a whole. Nicos is an alternative given name. Not sure about an alternative surname.

America's middle name: Fitzgerald— Its speculated that the F in his name is a reference to John F. Kennedy(or its Freedom). John F. Kennedy's middle name is Fitzgerald. There you have it. Actually, I honestly didn't know JFK's middle name was Fitzgerald beforehand, I kinda just really liked Fitzgerald as America's middle name already. Then I went into looking up the name's origin and meaning and google just handed this fact to me kinda randomly. Either way, I really do like the ring Alfred Fitzgerald Jones has.

Australia: Kyle King— I just like the name Kyle for him. It sounds nice. No deep reason for choosing Kyle. King, however, I feel like he might have chosen to like say fuck you to England after abandoning him? Like I'm the King now?? I'm in control?? From what I've seen on a few sites, King is a fairly common surname. Also considering Martin or Walker as alternative options.

New Zealand: James Brown— He looks like a James so he is a James. According forebears.io, Brown is the 4th most common surname in New Zealand. I'm not super sold on this surname yet but I do quite like the combination of it with James.

Wy: Charlotte "Charlie"— She gives off a lot of tomboyish vibes to me so I wanted to give her a kinda "boyish" nickname that Australia most likely started. Well it just so happens that Charlotte is a pretty popular name in Australia! She shares Australia's surname.

Hutt River: David— He just looks like a David. Plain and simple. Shares a surname with Australia. Despite being dissolved, I still like his character(and design) so I refuse to acknowledge him being dead lmao.

Molossia: Maximilian "Max" Theodore Jones— I picked a kinda flashy name for him because I tried to think like him while choosing it. He looks up to America. America is often flashy and exaggerated. What better way than to get your mentor's attention than by a name like Maximilian?? And I simply thought Theodore would be a good correlation to the middle name I gave America; they're both references to US presidents(Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy).

Kugelmugel: Tobias— No super deep reason. Its common in Austria in the year(or close to) when was he founded. I think Austria isn't super creative when naming things or people so he picked something common. Kugel probably does not care.

Osaka: Honda Tetsuya— I think he'd share Japan's surname rather than having his own. As for his given name, I chose something pretty common in Japan as a whole. I'm not sure about this choice, however.

Niko Niko Republic: Takahashi Shigeru— Again, picked common names. I didn't think he'd share Japan's surname, especially after dissolving. I thought maybe he'd like his very own name as he chooses his very own life to live out into old age y'know? Not totally confident in these name choices, however.

Monaco: Jules— I'm debating whether I personally like her having the same surname as France or not. I haven't found any alternative surnames yet as I'm not really dwelling on it. Jules, however, I think fits her pretty well.

Holy Roman Empire: Otto— Reference to Otto I, the Holy Roman Emperor, as well as Otto von Bismarck to kinda correlate the Germany-HRE theory(whether I 100% believe it not).

I'm honestly considering giving Germany a different surname than Beilschmidt since he was never given one by Hima in the first place(even stated there was a reason for that). I'm not sure if I will or not because I'm still looking into surnames for HRE, which I'm having a hard time doing so if I'm honest. Its harder than picking Rome's tria nomina lol.

thinking abt don't look bc one of the twt frame bots posted something from it abt an hour ago and someone's comment on it gave me pause

i think most of the shapes finn/the eyes give people are pretty straightforward (starchy especially lol) but pb's is a little less so, like the outfit and everything are kind of vague. she describes it as 'teen boy heartthrob' which was funny but also not super descriptive? what i think is definitely clear about the look is it's 1. casual, 2. youthful, and 3. tomboyish (a term i use specifically in conjunction w point 2) / masc

what i think can be inferred from that is that, having seen pb pretty consistently outside of her role as a ruler/his boss kinda/directly a mentor for a While (as pajama war was more than a full season earlier and stakes/muffin mess/koo dethroning her generally was almost exactly a season earlier) finn VERY firmly sees her as like, his cool Friend at least most of the time. and i'd say its also p definitive evidence that he's COMPLETELY over his baby crush on her at that point 🎉🎉🎉
