can we just take a moment to appreciate this micro expression from ronen here, where you can see how TK's mind is reeling and his thoughts are spiraling in his head.. he wasn't fully present for a hot second.. and you can tell just from the rapid blinking and the eyebrow raise, the deep breath, the rapid change in expression.. ronen is so good when it comes down to those micro expressions, he does it with such nuance that conveys intricate details about certain emotions with just a single understated glance. i love watching him BEING tk, because he doesn't perform, he rather transforms and it's sublime!!

I’m just sayin…
It Must have been nice for Carlos to come home to date night with wine and Salad, Beef Wellington made by TK after being stood up on their very first date when he did the same thing for TK. Cooked pretty much the same things too.

I don't like it when tv shows make a couple wait so late to have the kids conversation and especially when one of them doesn't want kids.
Not having kids is not the common thing to do. Having kids after getting married is kind of the default thing to do.. so it's the responsibility of the person who doesn't want kids to bring that up as soon as possible and I'm saying this as someone who doesn't want kids.
But i have to say it's nice that tk accepts that carlos might never want to have kids. It's nice that this conversation didn't end like others I've seen on tv with the person not wanting kids deciding that they will have them..
i think lone star handled this well unlike Brooklyn nine nine who had amy and jake have a fucking debate!! Which i hated so much!! (Even though i ended up really liking what the show did with jake as a father i still hate that show made them have a debate..)

I Know I Love You
TK sat in the rig on the morning after the disaster that had been finding an officiant working down the inventory checklist, trying to distract himself from the thoughts roaring through his mind. He was able to get through a quarter of the list before Nancy arrived for their shift.
“Uh, in a hurry to count, Strand?” Nancy asked as she stepped up to the back of the rig.
TK looked over at her, fixing his happy TK smile in place on the way, telling her “Just getting a head start on the list.” He wasn’t in the mood for small talk, but he also didn’t want to involve their friends in this particular struggle, his struggle.
Last night, the conversation had ended with no more real conversation, leaving TK feeling that gaping chasm growing. He also knew that he was the only one that could close it. He just had to figure out if it was something that he truly thought he could, and live with. If he could see a new picture of his future, one that was very different than he always envisioned, dreamed of.
He was the only one that could make that call. Could he let go of the idea of being a father, for the reality of being married to Carlos? Could he see himself as a father to a child without Carlos in his life?

I've had this idea for a while now, but after this episode (especially when Owen said 'take what the universe gives you') I'm 97% sure that Enzo's gonna die (off-screen, like really lone star style) before we get a chance to meet him and TK and Carlos end up adopting Jonah. Possibly before the wedding.
This is my headcanon until proven otherwise.

9-1-1: LONE STAR REACTION
This reaction is for season 4, twelfth episode "Swipe Left '' which originally aired April 11, 2023. The episode was written by Carly Soteras and directed by Steve Danton. Spoiler's ahead!
Tumblr media
Hello, friend! Let's chat about the latest episode of Lone Star! Is it just me or is this season firing on all cylinders? Since the season four premiere on up to the latest episode, I have truly been enjoying the wild ride. We kicked things off with TK and Carlos' wedding planning but then things took a turn when it was revealed Carlos is married to Iris Blake. Then Carlos got kidnapped by a serial killer and held captive. Owen stopped a plot to blow up the capitol. Tommy wooed her minister and warred with his daughter. Marjan left the 126 and came back. We also got some much needed backstory on Marjan and Mateo. Oh, and Paul is dating now! Judd and Grace are going to be grandparents courtesy of Wyatt and his girlfriend. Like I said - it's been a wild ride!
In this episode, we get to major storylines involving TK, Carlos, and Marjan. Let's start with the Marjan storyline. We see Marjan at one of her physical therapy sessions. Her physical therapist is played by Natacha Karam's real life partner, John Clarence Stewart. John plays Joe and the chemistry Joe has with Marjan is palpable. However, Marjan needs to be with someone who is also Muslim.
Tumblr media
We get a montage of Marjan going on various dates with Muslim men with her teammates accompanying as chaperones. Each guy has some sort of fatal flaw that makes him undesirable in Marjan's eyes however there is one guy that both Marjan and Owen fall in love with. His name is Fauza (Keon Alexander) and he is an animal lover (a plus for Owen) and by all intents and purposes a pretty swell guy. Plus he's very easy on the eyes if you get what i'm saying.
During an emergency involving a jilted wife who goes to the no tell/motel where her cheating husband is getting his rocks off, Marjan discovers that Fauza is not only married but his wife is super pregnant. Yikes! Looks like Marjan dodged a bullet. A very gorgeous, animal-loving bullet.
Tumblr media
While shopping for ingredients she plans on cooking for Paul and his girlfriend, Asha, Marjan runs into Joe in a Middle Eastern supermarket. Paul does a great job of playing wingman and encourages her to talk to him. Marjan has reservations about getting involved with Joe since he is not Muslim but Joe points out that he is Muslim. Just not the Middle Eastern variety. This moment was so funny to me because it's almost like Marjan couldn't fathom Joe (a black man) having the same faith as her. Marjan invites Joe to the dinner and he agrees. I hope we get to see more of these two in future episodes!
Tumblr media
Now, let's talk about everyone's favorite ship - Tarlos! TK and Carlos interview four faith leaders in hopes of picking one who will officiate their wedding. Rabbi Finkel (Harvey J. Alperin) is okay with the two of them being gay, however he thinks Carlos should convert to Judaism. Amethyst (Maureen Driscoll) likes the color of both their auras but won't be able to commit to a time and date because time is all relative to her. Reverend Tom (David Grant Wright) is a homophobe and tells TK and Carlos they will be together forever ... in hell. Yikes! Lastly, Pastor Nicole (Briana Lane) appears to be their best option but when she asks them if they want to have kids, both men are surprised by each other's answers.
Tumblr media
TK wants to have kids but Carlos doesn't. A part of me was surprised they were this far along in their relationship and neither of them had ever asked the other if they wanted kids or not. Then again, this is also the same couple where one of them was legally married to someone else for most of the relationship. This of course sends our two boys spiraling so they each go to their parents for advice.
Tumblr media
Kudos to Owen and Andrea Reyes (Roxana Brusso) for giving some solid advice to their sons. Andrea points out that Carlos has issues with avoidance which is spot on! She believes that Carlos never got around to asking TK if he wanted kids because he knew exactly what his answer would be. TK wonders if Carlos' hesitation to have kids is because he's an addict but Carlos dispels that by saying he believes wholly in TK's recovery. Andrea asks if Carlos is worried the child wouldn't have a mother figure and Carlos says he's worried if he's going to be a good dad. Carlos cites TK's relationship with Owen and how they've always been close but he and his dad are only just getting close. Carlos is afraid he won't measure up. Owen tells TK that any time he's prioritized someone else's needs over his own, things have always worked out for the better. Andrea tells Carlos he needs to be considerate of TK's feelings and he also needs to be honest. Because, at the end of the day, the only thing that matters, or should matter is that TK has Carlos and Carlos has TK. Periodt!
Tumblr media
We end the episode at TK and Carlos' apartment. TK cooks dinner and Carlos comes home with a cardboard box. Carlos opens the box and it's a bearded dragon! I guess if they don't have kids, at least they can have a lizard. Carlos tells TK he knows he will be a good father but he's not ready yet and he may not ever get there. TK tells him that's okay. I love this scene. Part of being in love is compromise.
Tumblr media
Oh, and the bearded dragon escaped from the box.
So, this was a fun episode! I loved getting to see a different side of Marjan. We're so used to seeing her be a badass firefighter but this time we got to see the softer side of her. The dating montage was so hilarious. I love that TK, Carlos, Paul, Owen, Nancy, and Mateo served as her chaperones. I liked the different types of guys she encountered. I especially liked her scenes with Joe. One thing I like that both 9-1-1 shows involve the actors' real-life partners and family members into the show. We've seen Jennifer Love Hewitt's husband appear twice on the OG series. Rob Lowe's son John writes for the show and his brother Chad appeared last season as his half-brother. Next episode we will see Sierra McClain's sisters appear as her sisters.
As for the TK and Carlos scenes. These two have such amazing chemistry and I think that's because Ronen and Rafael are such great friends off-camera. I love how the writers aren't afraid to show them struggle. Relationships aren't perfect. Another thing I like is how mature both parties were when dealing with the children/no children issue. TK doesn't run off and get upset. Carlos didn't shut down. They are getting so much better at communicating and I love to see it! It looks like we're getting closer and closer to the Tarlos wedding! I cannot wait! Until next time ...

Yes, Eddie and Buck are gonna be facing their past traumas in 7x03 (helicopters and ocean), but let's not forget that 2/5 occupants of that helicopter have been involved in helicopter crashes.
Eddie has managed to successfully get in a helicopter post-army, as witnessed in 4x12. Not saying that he doesn't have trauma around them and it won't be important but Hen's helicopter trauma seems more significant this time round.
The last time she was in a helicopter (LS 2x03) she was basically going against orders and had recently lost someone in a car accident and had been doubting her ability to do her job because of it. Then, obviously, the helicopter crashed.
This time? Hen's getting in a helicopter while defying orders after very recently losing someone in a car crash that led to her once again questioning her ability to do her job. It's almost like history is repeating itself...
Point is, 2/5 occupants have been in helicopter crashes, 2/5 occupants have water based trauma, 1 occupant was previously promised it was his turn to go in the helicopter next (and he takes turn-taking so seriously it literally killed him) and 1 occupant is a miracle survivor of another vehicular based crash...
Needless to say, this helicopter is doomed.

Maybe you could share some ls fic or art you’ve enjoyed recently?
Ooh, I don't know about art, I don't think i've come across much Tarlos art on my dash.
Fics, though, I can do.
Disclaimer, with work and my own crisis with fic writing, I haven't had much time to read fic, not as much as I'd like to anyway, but here are some of my favourites so far:
your first string by @strandnreyes - WIP, basketball au that is just phenomenal so far.
I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine by @irispurpurea (sorry if this isn't you just lemme know?)- great 4x12 Coda!
Tarlos Fic Collection by @detective-giggles snippets of their life together.
when life gives you lemons by @alrightbuckaroo this is just about the sweetest thing i have ever read. Tarlos + Jonah being adorable.

their respective conversations with their parents but echoing and answering each other’s worries and communicating their feelings with their parents.. and the bottom line being that the most important thing is that they have each other because their love is enough.. "is that TK is by my side", "because carlos is my person".... this was just so heartfelt and simple 😭

Tarlos Thoughts
I'm honestly struggling to write anything Tarlos related at the moment and I entirely blame season 4.
Listen, I can accept TK and Carlos' flaws, they're human beings not caricatures and I do not expect them to be perfect at all times. Equally I do not suddenly despise one of them when they make mistakes, I want 3-dimensional characters that seem real and flawed, not perfect idols of worship. But my god this season is testing my patience and I'm putting it beneath a read more because I will ramble.
TL:DR I fucking hate miscommunication and Tarlos is looking far too unhealthy in this series. I do not blame this on the characters or the actors. I'm looking at you Tim.
Also, just incase anyone needs it, trigger warning for 2x12, spoiler warning for 4x12 and more importantly a trigger warning for discussions of actions that could be interpreted as abuse.
I got why Carlos was married. I appreciate that he was lost, feeling very much unaccepted and it was during a time at which the idea of marrying another man was little more than a fever dream. So he has this close relationship with his best friend, and honestly if my best friend wasn't already married, she'd be the only one I would ever consider marrying. I Get that.
What I DON'T get though. Is how long it took for him to bring it up to TK.
Listen miscommunication rubs me the wrong way. Whether it's in TV, Movies, Asian Dramas, Fanfiction etc. If I see any form of miscommunication I will back out. I have the tag blacklisted on AO3 because I don't like it and so I choose to avoid it. Because I get feral and just end up screaming "Just fricking talk to each other OMFG!". It's also why I don't watch too many TV shows.
The thing about the marriage that bugs me is that Carlos seemingly had no intention of telling TK. TK proposed, spent weeks, months? (LS timelines elude me sometimes) planning the wedding, visiting venues etc. and not one peep of Carlos telling him or even trying to tell him. Again, I get Carlos is a control freak and tries to fix everything himself and does not like admitting when things are beyond his ability and he is very much captain deflection and does not like to share his own problems ever.
And honestly, with the way TK runs away at the slightest sign of issues within the relationship and explodes like a minefield, it's not explicitly mentioned, but I can very much imagine that this humongous flaw played a part in Carlos keeping the issue to himself. And I will admit I was...surprised...TK was so calm when Carlos admitted he was married, I was fully expecting him to end up back at his Dad's for a few months again.
But it feels very much a disservice to himself and TK for it to get to the point it did. It felt very much like he was hoping to divorce Iris and then marry TK without TK being any the wiser. Which is too much on the side of lying for my comfort.
Especially since we've often seen him trying to get TK to talk to him about things.
Now this discourse about kids.
Again I get it. I do not want kids EVER. I will gladly be the godparent and cool relative who gets them hyped on sugar then give them back with an evil grin.
Carlos' wants for the future sound very much like a "Not yet" rather than a "not ever" and look, the pair of them are still young and haven't been together that long in the grand scheme of things especially considering breakups and comas etc. But how has this conversation never come up before? It's just drama for drama's sake.
But what really really irks me about the entire season....is the jokes about his wife and being married that he just peppers into conversation constantly. How long has it been since the truth was revealed? Are Carlos and Iris even divorced/annulled yet? What part of TK's reaction to the marriage made Carlos think it was okay to joke about it?
Carlos you lied to TK about the marriage, then you seemingly got angry and blamed TK for when Iris disappeared, you then lied again when you told TK you were staying at the hospital overnight. How does any of that equate to TK being okay with you making "my wife" jokes?
Honestly with all this miscommunication drama that the writers/producers are putting in seemingly for the sake of creating drama...all they're doing is making Carlos come across as mean and TK come across as being baby-fied and uwued or whatever the current terminology is.
I wont go as far as to say the way Carlos talks to TK is gaslighting, but its coming very very close with the way he deflects and responds to some of the things TK says (especially in the parental discussion) and how he often seems to trivialise TK being upset. And let me be clear I am blaming poor writing for that, not Carlos as a character or Rafael.
Equally the way TK jumps to "So you're saying you think I'll be a bad father" whilst obviously intended to be a show of his lingering insecurities, could be argued as quite the gaslight as well. And don't get me started on TK's explosive reaction in season 2 or the way he ran away and didn't communicate prior to season 3. Honestly, if I was the one dating either of them, I would have ran for the hills like my name was Owen Strand, months, if not years ago.
STOP GAP FOR A MOMENT.
Just to reiterate. I AM NOT ACCUSING CARLOS OR TK OF BEING ABUSIVE. I am saying that POOR WRITING and a lack of understanding of healthy relationships by TIM and the WRITERS are allowing for actions/words to be interpreted as borderline abusive.
But...honestly Tarlos used to be one of my comfort relationships and it's very much drifting into the typical media territory of never letting the gays be happy. It started at the end of season 2 with how TK reacted to the news Gabriel arrested Owen and it's just been getting worse as the seasons go on.
We're drifting dangerously towards the "bury your gays" trope and I don't care how much reassurance we get from Tim or Ronen etc. that Tarlos is endgame, I'm starting to not believe it, or...dare I say it...want it.
I don't know if I can make it to the end of the season at this rate.
Please bear in mind this is my opinion. If you do not agree with this fine. I will not accept anyone coming at me in my ask box to defend or vilify Carlos or TK for their actions and I am not team TK or team Carlos I have issues with both of them, they both have flaws as characters and are the direct equal cause of issues in their relationship
But finally, I would like to point out this:
Dotted moments of cuteness and lightheartedness do not a healthy relationship make.

Tim really did not make much of an effort to hide the obvious Buddie lite nature of Tarlos. It’s particularly glaring with how the Tarlos proposal went (during a will discussion in the finale where one person uses the other’s rarely used first name to emphasize the importance the conversation). Again it felt like his attempts to pacify Buddie shippers by giving us a “romantic alternative” of the will scene but it kinda ended up being more fuel to the fire of folks saying that the Buddie will scene felt far from platonic.
I don't usually get involved in the "Do you think Tarlos was the alternative for Buddie?" discussion because some people get very defensive (on both sides) if the two are compared, but beyond the obvious decision to have a white + latino pairing (the first thing fans noticed), I think the fact that Tarlos isn't like Buddie as far as not taking a long time to figure out their feelings was the whole point. While OG is fucking around with the fan base, unwillingly to commit one way or the other, LS handed the viewers - viewers they assumed would tune in after OG - a m/m ship that immediately acknowledged their attraction to each other and acted on it, a m/m ship that has their problems and manages to work through them without completely reworking who they are as people or leaving the audience confused as to what the end goal is. One thing I will say "in defense" of Tarlos is that a slow burn like the one OG fandom expected/expects with Buddie was probably not going to work when Rafael is paid to recur. Not having both characters in every episode because both are not mains and therefore not required doesn't allow for (what fans consider) a proper amount of time for their story to evolve. We see it with the recurring LIs on OG, right? Buck starts dating Ali and then the next time we she's on screen they're looking at apartments together (even though she wasn't technically moving in). Eddie and Ana became an insta-family. BT got together for real after just three appearances by MW (4x08, 4x11, 4x12). We (the fandom in general) laughed at Tim agreeing that BT took some time, but I...actually get it. When you've got someone under contract for a limited number of episodes...not putting them together right away, but still establishing a "connection", is a victory.

That's not how arab names work...
Arab names consist of your name and then your fathers name and then your grandfathers name and so on.. Karim is the fathers name.. so in this context both of this woman's father and her husband's father are named Karim.. it's not a proof that they're married.
So it's either that she's cleverly tricking that receptionist or who ever wrote this episode doesn't know how arab names work and I'm willing to bet that it's the second option..

Hi! Another thought! Apparently at the convention yesterday Rafa said there's going to be more Officer Reyes to come and it's gonna be both drama and fun. Now Rafa's idea of fun is a bit scary honestly, but maybe we'll get to see the fruits of the growth he had/he's having from the past arc experience.
I don't really know, but they may build for him something that creates the sort of problem he'd usually shoulder by himself, and instead this time he'll share what's bothering him with TK, even if just to seek comfort or something. Or maybe he'll have a big decision to make and he'll ask him for advice. And being related to work ensures it's something that's just his, though it may impact their lives together (think the decision about becoming a Detective or not). This way it could be a little like what they went through after Sadie with the all 'relapse' thing, though obviously it would be different in many ways too. (I probably love parallels too much, I know 😂)
I'd be just as happy if they showed growth for something relating to them as a couple. It's just, that line I read about it made me think immediately of that kind of situation. In any case I'm looking at 4x12 to see it, since it's a Tarlos ep.
Compared to OG, Lone Star doesn’t do a whole lot of police driven episodes – which does make sense considering Angela is an EP & contracted for each episode, while Rafa isn’t. But – I do like that for the most part when we get police plots in LS, we get them as more investigative storylines (2x08, 3x05 to name a couple) which I like. But, it did take us way too long to get Carlos centric storylines regarding his profession – which is also a bit weird considering he is the only cop – on a show about first responders.
Both Rafa & Ronen have slightly different ideas on “fun” and “beautiful” than I do sometimes – so, yeah – who knows what is coming for him/us. But, as long as Carlos doesn’t have another wife waiting in the wings – I can handle it.
We saw Carlos stumble pretty big in the first act of season 4 (I have a feeling that 1-6, 7-12, & 13-18 will be like acts of a play – 1-6 = Act 1, 7-12= Act 2, & 13-18= Act 3). Now I am hoping (seriously & a little frantically) that we get to see how that shapes him the rest of the season – be it professionally or personally (either in his relationship with TK or his family) in Act 2 (I am pretty firmly in the wedding finale camp – ie: end of the play/act 3). Which would go in line with one of the interviews Rafa did last summer – so fingers crossed – we get to see it on screen. I feel like Season 3 was a lot about TK growth – and we got to see it, so I am hoping that it will be similar with Carlos this season.
I think that the easiest way to show us that Carlos learned something from the activities in Season 4 Act 1, would be to talk to TK about a work issue or something. One that he would normally have kept to himself, stewing over until he put it safely way in a brand new box and locking it away with the rest of his trauma/past/negative thoughts & feelings. That would be the simplest way – and would give that domestic scene so many of us want. Another – don’t go into murder tunnels without telling anyone where you are. I am crossing my fingers that we get a little bit of something about his control freak ways (otherwise what is the point of the episode title for 4x08).
The growth from both of them by the end of 2x13 after Sadie was amazing to be able to actually SEE – this whole wedding planning would be another great way to easily show Carlos not shouldering everything on his own – post 4x04. Which – thankfully, I am like 99% sure we will be getting – Tarlos vs parentzillas who think that they just need more drama in their wedding.
Now that we have had Detective TK, the boys have another thing they can talk about – the misery of working with APD’s missing person’s unit (especially when the missing person is your spouse/soon-to-be spouse). TK might not be able to tell the difference between a human and a statue – but he can find his idiot (affectionately calling him an idiot for going in that fucking tunnel like an idiot) fiancé with his soon-to-be father-in-law as his chauffer.
I have NO idea what to anticipate for 4x12 other than it being a Tarlos one – I am not a patient person by nature – so these long waits (it may only be 5 episodes away, but that feels like forever) with the ultimate tease (Ronen) are a challenge all on their own. However, I do think that my wedding planner brain will need that time to recover from whatever Owen & Andrea’s idea of ‘drama’ for the Tarlos wedding is.
I can’t wait for the facial expressions – Rob, Rafa, & Ronen all kill it with their facial reactions and I can’t fucking wait for it!!
--I just had a thought – do we know what episode has the Mateo/Marvin stuff yet? Cause I could see something funny being involved with both Tarlos & Carlos as a cop – so maybe that?
