Blogmas: Viral LUSH Snow Fairy
Hi guys,
If you have been a fan of LUSH for a long time you will know how iconic their Snow Fairy collection is. Originally it was a bath bomb that turned into bath washes and last year it reached their cosmetics range with more lip products.
One of my favourite products from this range is the LUSH Snow Fairy Lip Jelly £9.00. I usually can't wear lip balms because my lips react however this natural organic formula I can wear all day without any issues. Unlike a traditional lip balm this is a lip jelly which is (in my opinion) more hydrating and nourishing on your lips. I adore this products and last year I bought one and then it sold out everywhere I couldn't find it anywhere so when they relaunched this product again in their Christmas collection I have to repurchase.
I decided to get 3 this time because they last ages and feel so amazing on my lips. The only thing I strongly dislike about Christmas collections is sometimes brands bring out their best products and then you can't find them for a year. Honestly it drives me crazy but it's a good excuse to buy in bulk when I see these products in store.
So if you need a bubble gum scented lip jelly in your life I highly highly recommend grabbing this while you can because when it's gone it's gone. As always all products mentioned in my blog post are linked above.
Lots of love,
Bella x x

mitski: a primal listening experience.
(this post was started on january 19th but drafted and not posted until march 22nd :)
so. i've listened to all of mitski's albums. and by all I mean i've listened to
lush
retired from sad, new career in business
bury me at makeout creek
puberty 2
be the cowboy
laurel hell
the land is inhospitable and so are we
so the basic seven that most people think of. I haven't pursued the extended plays yet (I plan on it, don't worry) but this is just like an overall review. so with that, I suppose I should uhm, get into it.
*also please don't read this if you don't care because it's just me rambling lol and also I know nothing about chords or strings or anything so my reviews are based on vibes and lyrics*
I'll start by going in order by release date so from Lush to The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We and just talking about the songs and my overall liking or disliking of the album. Then I'll finish by rating the albums from my favorite to least favorite.
Lush
If I could use one word to describe this album it would be amazing. I heard somewhere that this album was a school project and this is like the musical equivalent to trauma-dumping in an essay like wow. There's so much I want to say about it. My favorite song off of this record is Wife because the lyrics just punched me in the gut the first time I listened to it.
"For if I am not yours, what am I?"
This line almost made me cry the first time I heard it because it's just so heartbreaking and raw. I think the first half of this album comes out swinging and the second half has chilling and stellar lyrics but I think the second half (the second half being from Eric to Real men) are just less impressive then the first half. My favorites were Wife, Abbey, and Brand New City. 9/10.
2. Retired from Sad, New Career in Business
I think that this album was definitely less than Lush. Not that it was bad, just that it didn't particularly impress me that much. I often found myself bored with the songs while listening to the album, though they were all good and they all had good songwriting, most of the record just didn't stand out to me. My favorites of the album were Humpty, I Want You, and Class of 2013. Which I realize are some of the most popular songs off of the record (probably for a reason?) Anyhow, I thought it was a step-down from the banger that was Lush and I don't think I would ever actually listen to the full album again. 7/10.
3. Bury Me at Makeout Creek
Again, not a favorite. I was quite disappointed, especially since I had seen TONS of reviews saying that this was one was one of Mitski's best albums (which is why you don't trust everything you read on the internet.) I actually don't have much to say about it other than the listening experience was average and not very memorable. My favorites were Last Words of a Shooting Star and Drunk Walk Home. 6/10.
4. Puberty 2
This album is impeccable. She really redeemed herself with Puberty 2. I didn't enjoy the first three songs (they remain unliked on the album) but the rest of the album is showstopping. Usually I find myself bored by the second half of the album but I was aware and listening and the overall feel of the album is almost painfully nostalgic in a gruesome kind of way. It recounts first love, self worth, and feeling like a burden. Or just what I got from the songs when I listened to them. I often find myself going back to these albums. My favorites were My Body's Made of Crushed Little Stars and A Burning Hill. 8.5/10
5. Be the Cowboy
I did not like this album. The songs, the production, everything about it did not speak to me. I would like to say more than just that I but I really don't have any thoughts on it, maybe I need to give it another listen but I really just remember the songs not being amazing, I also feel like Mitski's songwriting was just really off on this one and it didn't click with me. Maybe one day I'll come back and edit this review. My favorites were A Pearl and Lonesome Love. 4/10
6. Laurel Hell
My favorite Mitski album. It's so synthy and almost feels like a pop-ish fever dream. It's way too short and I'm kinda sad because I wish it was longer. Her songwriting really shone through on this album and every song makes a new wave of tears come through. Even when you're listening to upbeat songs like Love Me More , there are heart-wrenching lyrics buried under the song's upbeat melody.
"Love enough to drown me out, drown me out, drown me out."
But overall, the sound was fresh and new in a way I really enjoyed. I don't really have anything bad to say about it. My favorites were Love Me More and The Only Heartbreaker. 9.5/10
7. The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We
I somewhat enjoyed this album. I think we were all excited for a new Mitski album but it didn't really stand out to me in her discography, except for a few choice songs. I would say the album has slight pop elements, maybe even bordering on country-ish. I don't know if that is a bold assumption or not, but either way. I might revisit this project and come back and redo this but yeah, it was the most remarkable thing she's ever made. My favorite was The Frost. 7.5/10
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now it's time to rank them from best to worst (again this is my opinion so shut it)
Laurel Hell
Lush
Puberty 2
The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We
Retired from Sad, New Career in Business
Bury Me at Makeout Creek
Be The Cowboy
Okay, that's all folks! Uhm, this was like a 3 month long process of just coming back to this every so often and adding more but I finished it.
Oh and here's my AOTY (Album Of The Year)

Sakura Shower Gel from Lush
The Sakura Shower Gel started off its Lush life as a Lush Japan exclusive.Luckily for Lush customers in the UK, Lush decided to release a very small batch of it, making it possible for me to grab myself a bottle. It was ridiculously popular and sold out within less than 24 hours of its UK release. The shower gel is described by Lush as a ‘bouquet in a bottle’. If you’ve used the Sakura bath bomb,…

Breath of God (LUSH/Gorilla Perfume)
There’s a painting in the Philadelphia Museum of Art that simultaneously haunts and infuriates a friend of mine. No matter what special exhibit she's bought a ticket to see, she invariably ends up in the permanent collection wing, fuming in front of this one work of art. She loves it. She hates it. She marvels at its audacity. She grits her teeth at its arrogance. She claims she’ll keep going back to look at it until she finally understands it... or rips it off the wall in frustration.
So it is destined to be with me and Breath of God.
My decision to obtain a decanted sample of it was based on two prompts-- Tania Sanchez' enraptured five-star review of it in Perfumes: The A to Z Guide (in which she described it as "a triumph, a walk through an autumnal landscape in shades of pencil gray instead of painterly gold...") and the heads-up that LUSH's B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful division would soon B Going Out of Business*. If Breath of God really was so astounding, I wanted to experience it before it vanished for good. So I ordered a sample sprayer from The Perfumed Court and readied myself for a religious experience.
A trip through a circus funhouse would be more like it.
As soon as the perfume hit my skin, I was struck by the scent of... something burning. Seriously, I thought I had left a dishtowel on the stove. Before I could reach for the extinguisher, this scent suddenly morphed from house fire to fruit salad to Old Spice. I believe I may have actually uttered “Fuck!” out loud.
Muttering and shaking my head, I sat down on the couch and received a whiff of honeydew melon from the region of my bosom. At the same time, the pulse points up under my jaw were radiating mesquite as if I’d marinated myself in Liquid Smoke. So to recap: my wrists smelled like aftershave, my chest smelled like the produce section at the grocery store, and my throat smelled like a Kansas City barbecue. What kind of alchemical funny business was going on here?
Five minutes elapsed, and we suddenly entered upon a bizarre medicinal phase. All the aforementioned disparate odors came together and turned into BenGay on my skin. I stuck my wrist under my husband’s nose, and he expressed a hope that I would feel better—or at least take another shower—soon. Moments after the words left his mouth, the whole shebang geared down into a fresh men's deodorant scent-- woodsy, musky, almost affable; in other words, MILES away from where it had been a moment before.
Now it is evening, and I'm still muttering, "What the...?" I feel exhausted, put-upon, vaguely duped. Yet -- god help me -- I'm interested.
Damn you, Breath of God! In twelve hours, I've gone from planning to offload you onto the first passerby, to vowing to never ever let you go. My rating has veered from top marks to no marks and back again, and still hasn't come to a complete stop. I think I'll wear you the next time I accompany my friend to the art museum. She'll stand in front of her painting, and I'll keep sniffing myself and cursing under my breath, and together we'll create what I secretly suspect you already are: an amazing piece of performance art, alienating, off-putting, and impossible to deny.
*Though BNTBTBB announced that it was calling it quits in 2009, parent company LUSH absorbed the line and relaunched it in 2011 as the "Exclusives" collection under the new Gorilla Perfumes label. Breath of God remains its familiar, weird and brilliant self, priced affordably and in ready supply. Bless the Constantines, père et fils!
Scent Elements: Neroli, lemon, grapefruit, melon, jasmine, rose, ylang-ylang, vetiver, sandalwood, cedar, cade, black pepper, amber, musk

Real Men - Mitski — 99.2/100
Mitski’s first two albums, Lush and RFSNCIB, are both reminiscent of Fiona Apple’s music, and Real Men is one of the tracks that is similar to Apple the most. This track consists of elements that are commonly heard in her songs: piano and drum-heavy with a staccato rhythm with lyrics about patriarchal values. The phrase ‘little boy[s]’ is repeated throughout the song, which is evocative of the iconic line from Fiona Apple’s Paper Bag: “I thought he was a man but he was just a little boy”, which is also similar to the rest of Real Men. In this song, Mitski sings about conforming to more traditionally male expectations such as self-destructive and toxic behaviors. It is not only becoming what society defines a ‘real man’, but also about seeking male acceptance and having internalized misogyny.

lush's instant ramen adventure #1: jongga kimchi ramen
So I bought a fuck ton of ramen. I have my reasons. And I'm gonna talk about what I think about them.
Tumblr media
I tend to like the broadest, to my knowledge, staples of Asian flavors (I'm trying to say this like someone might say they enjoy "some western food" referring to cheese) I like...soy sauce. And such. I cook with it often. And I don't think I'm getting anything particularly authentic in instant ramen. I only mention this to say I'm trying not to be orientalist about this? But I also am not well read on the topic at all. So do call me out if necessary. Onto the ramen
One should know I am notoriously bad at food photos! But here is the ramen
Tumblr media
Out of 9 flavors I purchased I chose this one so I don't have to wash another bowl later! I've had kimchi (Love it) and kimchi flavored ramens (very spicy. Cried) before, and so this didn't seem altogether too unfamiliar cause I'm not in the mood to actually adventure that much today. There's one other bowl ramen in my stash. I only have one of these, so if I fuck it up Then Oops, but I am preparing it as instructed except to fry two eggs to go with it, standard ramen practice for me. And giving it a good mix at the recommended 3 minutes to sit a bit longer as I finish my eggs
Tumblr media
Fried to mediocrity.
I was expecting the kimchi in the package to be dried because I'm illiterate and didn't really read the top of the package, and because the instructions said one might eat "REAL kimchi" (Caps their own) as a side dish. It wasn't, though.
Tumblr media
And here's how it looks finished
Tumblr media
Initial taste for spice tolerance: there is a minor amount of burn! And it's tasty.
Sipped the broth! Gagged and coughed a little because that is spiciER. While tears are in my eyes I doubt they'll fall. Not the spiciest ramen I've had, but not for the spice averse of intolerant. Tastes quite good with the eggs!
I was not properly scientific about tasting the kimchi BEFORE immersing it in the soup broth, but it's okay! Not my favorite Kimchi, a bit too vinegar heavy and it doesn't have that sort of mellow flavor primarily that I would be looking for. It's moreso earthy. But maybe that isn't technically the high quality 'chi. While I doubt it, I'm no expert.
With chicken top ramen at a 2/20 and chicken maruchan at a 4/10, i'd give this a solid 8/10!! It's nothing particularly special, which would actually make it quite nice for folks who like to dress their ramen up to the nines. It's not the most craveable, but I've gladly try it again! Though I might reach for maruchan if I really wanted a sodium hit, or for mi goreng (9/10. While not bought in this batch I'd love to rate it one it's own) to get something more texturally complex. The eggs are really carrying in that regard, though the chew of the noodles does hold up to a solid soak in the broth as I eat!
Notably, the bowl is also holding up beautifully, and the cover was neither too flimsy nor too difficult to remove. Balanced a fork like a champ to keep it closed during the rehydration process.
Now for it's online presence:
Jongga claims the kimchi adds a crunch texture, and that'd definitely false. I don't think it's bad! But if you want that good good kimchi crunch, it'd be best to add your own. (Actually, the kimchi sinks to the bottom, do you will get more crunch as you have less noodle. But despite much stirring, I wouldn't say it has textural variety. I'd actually reccomend eating it on the side of that's what you want! Though there's only really enough to constitute a garnish for flavor, and not an entire side dish. If you want veg, bring it from elsewhere)
Multiple reviews mention that it IS very sodium heavy (though it doesn't taste it to me, it's worth noting that I tend to eat foods just-too-salty, which is a part of this ramen journey called to me, though worry not for my blood pressure.), but none compare it to crack cocaine, or say it's worth selling a child for, which simply does not reach the bar set by Mi Goreng, and I'm inclined to agree.
At just about three dollars for a bowl that is enough to satisfy (from a person of roughly-rounded —you do not need to Percieve me and do nothing with this information but use it for context — 250 pounds) but that I wouldn't call filling, the monetary value is eh, bumping it down to a 7.5. and, the spicy throat-punch aside, I feel no temptation to drink off the rest of the broth, resting it at a solid 7/10.

Ooh hoo! This lush box finally has a perfume I like! It's a solid one and i think they changed the formula bc it's a lot softer than my other ones from over the years (from when they were new lol)
I am wondering though if the theme being "party" this month is to celebrate the birthday of Lush Oxford Street but I cant remember if that was in march or may... I only remember it being one of those bc I was doing a Jr. Job Shadow for school and i picked Lush and it happened to be the week they opened oxford street
Also bc theres "dont rain on my parade" which was an OS exclusive (which I was intrigued by but god do I hate violet smells... it'd probably be perfect without it)

Fantabulosa (LUSH/Gorilla Perfumes)
There is an unknown land full of strange flowers and subtle perfumes, a land of which it is joy of all joys to dream, a land where all things are perfect and poisonous. --Oscar Wilde, letter to Harry Marillier, 1885
Fantabulosa is beautiful, but he won't let me say so. He -- this weirdly, wonderfully uncompromising creature -- flat-out forbids it.
But I'm only trying to compliment you, I protest-- to which he coolly replies, You mean pigeonhole me in a nice safe little box? Honey, you're supposed to bury me after I'm dead.
This is a standoff I'll never win. The criterion of beauty to which I, a mere mortal, must fall back on is too terrestrial for Fantabulosa's taste. Clearly he would much rather be called ugly than have to wear so mundane and gentrified a label as beautiful.
Violets? Where? Maybe Fantabulosa is sitting on them. He'd love that-- holding court on a bed of petals. Doubtless we'll discover them later, crushed under skin-tight velvet, clinging desperately to the backs of those whippet-thin supermodel thighs. (Do you think His Majesty will ask us to brush them off for him? Oh please say yes.)
Chamomile? Could that be the bitter and prickly element in Fantabulosa's personality, or is it something buried deep in his shady past? He's not talking, though the way he smokes a cigarette -- with quick, purse-lipped inhales like a series of angry kisses interspersed with narrow-eyed, smoke-obscured glares -- belies a deep impatience with convention. (Don't ask; it will only get him started.)
Banana? Yes, of course. Fresh? Depends on how you define the word. Let's just say it's been around the farmer's market a few times. A few venomous detractors have gone so far as call this fragrance's banana note "rotten", but everyone knows that the closer it pushes the envelope toward decay, the sweeter a banana gets. When it interacts with the chamomile, you get this strange, bitter, ghost-of-cuminseed accord that slices through the cloying fruity sweetness like a old-fashioned stiletto letter opener in the hands of a disgruntled personal assistant. (Not that I'm complaining, Mister Lady Ma'am. I live to serve!)
Seaweed absolute? A trace of odor as saline and funky as-- Hush your mouth!
Look, if speaking the word "beautiful" aloud would mean banishment from the Imperial Presence, I'll keep it safely locked in my head. I'll put up with the sullen looks, the catty comments, all the times I have to fetch and carry and bail him out of jail. I'll sign his name on stacks of 8x10 glossies and never breathe a word of where he disappears to after midnight.
Just let me go on worshiping this lovely space oddity… forked tongue and all.
Scent Elements: Violet, violet leaf, chamomile, banana absolute, seaweed absolute, labdanum, oakmoss

Embrace the Green Glory: Living the Lawn Lush Life
Tumblr media
Your lawn, often the first thing people notice about your home, has the potential to be more than just a patch of green. It can be a vibrant canvas of natural beauty, a haven for relaxation, and a source of pride. Welcome to the "Lawn Lush Life," where we explore the art of nurturing and elevating your lawn to its fullest potential, transforming it into a lush and inviting paradise.
The Essence of the Lawn Lush Life
Living the Lawn Lush Life is about cultivating a lawn that not only looks stunning but also enriches your daily life. It goes beyond mere maintenance and delves into the realm of mindful and purposeful lawn care. Here's how you can embrace this verdant lifestyle:
Understand Your Lawn's Needs
Every lawn is unique, with its own set of requirements. To kickstart your journey to a lush lawn, start by understanding your grass type, local climate, and soil conditions. Conduct a soil test to determine its pH and nutrient levels. Armed with this knowledge, you can tailor your lawn care regimen for optimal results.
The Art of Mowing
Mowing is an art, not just a chore. To achieve a lush lawn, follow these guidelines:
Proper Height: Adjust your mower's cutting height to avoid scalping the grass. Most cool-season grasses thrive when mowed to a height of 2.5 to 3.5 inches, while warm-season grasses prefer slightly lower heights.
Regular Maintenance: Stick to a consistent mowing schedule. Avoid removing more than one-third of the grass height in a single mowing session.
Sharp Blades: Ensure your mower blades are sharp to achieve clean cuts and prevent stress to the grass.
Nutrient-Rich Feeding
A well-fed lawn is a lush lawn. Fertilize your grass according to its specific needs and the recommendations of your soil test. Opt for slow-release, organic fertilizers that promote long-lasting and steady growth.
Hydration Station
Proper watering is vital for lawn health. Water deeply and infrequently to encourage deep root growth. Early morning is the best time to water, as it allows the grass to dry before evening, reducing the risk of diseases.
Weed Warriors
Weeds are the enemy of a lush lawn. Regularly inspect your lawn for weeds and employ proper weed control techniques. Manual removal, herbicides, and pre-emergent treatments can all play a role in keeping weeds at bay.
Embrace Aeration
Aeration is the process of perforating the soil with small holes to allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the root zone. It's a crucial step in achieving a healthy lawn and should be done annually or as needed.
Pest Patrol
Keep an eye out for lawn pests and diseases. Early detection and treatment can prevent significant damage to your lawn's lushness.
Overseeding Oasis
Overseeding is the practice of sowing grass seed over an existing lawn. It helps thicken the grass and fill in bare spots, leading to a denser and lusher lawn.
Lawn Love
Lastly, give your lawn some TLC. Regularly remove leaves, debris, and thatch to keep the grass breathing. Take the time to observe your lawn, identify issues early, and address them promptly.
