#macaque seeing Wukong's eyes for the first time and actually stopping everything that he was doing
Note
Things Wukong has definitely said to his kids at some point:
"*child's name* you get that fuzzy little tail of yours back here before I climb up after you!"
"If I have to get up from my meditation you won't like what happens!"
"Now, why would you want to bite your own tail!"
"*screeches in shock* That's it! No more shadow portals in the house! Actually... no more shadow portals in general!"
"Kids, if you're gonna make a mess... at least try to keep it to one room. Please?"
"Don't make me call your other baba! One! Two..."
"*reaches hand out to scruff a kid* Sorry, they missed snack time. I'll be sure to reimburse you for all the food... and the expensive set of dishware..."
No matter the au (im assuming LMK), Wukong is the more authoritive parent. He's a worrier deep down. Macaque is more likely to let the cubs run wild for a bit and since he hears Everything its hard to hide mischief from him. So if Wukong has to call Macaque in, the kids know its *serious*.
So many chaos babies. So few hairs to make clones out of.
I love the idea of a few of the babies inheriting/learning shadow magic from Mac, and Wukong just has to deal with the occassional portal from the kids room-to-fridge.
One of my fave things about monkey parents irl, is that they will grab/hold a baby's tail to stop them from running off to cause mischief. You can see the tired frustration in the mom's eyes. XD
Tumblr media
First time the Celestial Realm invites Wukong and his mate to a fancy dinner, they quickly regret it. Mac brought the Eclipse twins and soon the banquet table was a massacre.

Macaque x Reader headcannons 🌙🎭
Tumblr media
A.N: Okay, I'm not dead, hooray! I just lost motivation for LMK. This is just an exception because my bestie really loves Macaque, so this is my gift for her; PLEASE NOTE THAT REQUESTS ARE STILL CLOSED. Also, my bestie is the author of the art (@kiss-my-ass-2137 - that's her blog btw). One more thing: please beware that my Macaque may be ooc as hell. Also note that the reader is based on my bestie, so this is quite specific and may not be everyone's cup of tea. Not proofread.
I can see him calling you 'plum', 'babe', 'gem' or 'sweetheart' often. However, contrary to Wukong, he also quite often calls you by your name. To him your name sounds pretty and he likes using it just as much as he likes nicknaming you.
He adores how social and outgoing you are. Sometimes Macaque just can't understand how you manage to get along with practically everybody, but that is one of the traits that made him fall in love with you.
He makes sure that you always have VIP seats and access to each of his shadow plays.
Like Wukong, Macaque is also a flirt, but he's a lot more suave and suggestive than Monkey King.
He tries not to get jealous each time you give someone else your attention and have fun with someone else. However Macaque is a pretty jealous person, so most likely he will just stand brooding in the corner, maybe sometimes let a small smile of adoration at seeing you socialize so easily.
But thanks to that, Macaque always feels like the most special person on the planet each time you give him your undivided attention.
By the way, congrats for making this man fall for you. He has a lot of trust issues and is usually pretty closed off underneath that flirty and sassy exterior. So making Macaque fall in love with you is by no means an easy task.
You have to be patient with him; give him some time to open up and try not to rush him. It may take some for him until he becomes comfortable enough to do all the lovey-dovey things that couples do, especially with touch. But he's trying, I promise you.
He may not look like he is, but he is attentive and caring.
He wants to know everything about your interests and hobbies, no matter what they are. Macaque wants to know all about the things that make you happy.
You have a favorite movie or cartoon or whatever? Great, he'll watch it.
You play games or video games? Well, I don't really see him as a big fan of that, but... He once saw you play Genshin Impact. You mentioned that game to Macaque a few times before, but this was the first time he'd seed you actually play it. The graphics and designs of the characters mesmerized him + he knew you loved it so he decided to give it a try.
You helped him a bit in the early stages, but surprisingly or not, Macaque got the hang of it pretty quickly. Like a natural.
He loves this game (I think both Wukong and Macaque would love genshin, but for different reasons probaly). Especially lore, character's stories and the plot. Don't get him wrong, the fights are cool, but Mac is a theatre kid. Of course he's going to focus on and like the plot more, especially since genshin is quite well thought out and interesting in that aspect.
Macaque will also gladly watch all your favorite shows and movies with you. He loves how passionate you are about them.
He likes going out for dates, but because of his sensitive hearing, he prefers more quiet places, or dates around nature or something like this.
He will roll his eyes if you throw any suggestive jokes at him, sometimes if he's in a good mood he may retort with one of his own. That also applies to normal jokes and general banter.
Macaque will also immediately offer to deal with any person who wrongs you or makes you upset. But knowing Macaque, that wouldn't end well, so please stop him from that. Tell him that you appreciate it but don't let him find that person.
What's that? You ride on horses? Well, consider him impressed a bit. He won't try it himself no matter how hard you try to convince him, but as long as there's not many people around and he's free at the time, he'll watch you do it. He may even use his shadow portals to save you from falling off a horse; he'll create a portal to shorten your landing.
Also, he'll often use his powers to suddenly appear beside you without warning. He likes to sneak up behind you and say 'boo' or something like that. He'll chuckle if he manages to surprise you.
But he won't use his shadow portals to teleport you to him without warning you first or your permission. He actually respects you and knows that you may be doing something important and that you have other matters to attend to.
Like I've mentioned, he has sensitive hearing. And while he can control that so he doesn't suffocate as much in daily life, he'll be grateful and will appreciate it if you watch the tone and volume of your voice when around him. He'll say it's not necessary, but on the inside he'll love you forever for being so considerate.
May not be a big fan of cuddling at first. He'll allow it but he'll be very stiff at first and only over time Macaque will get used to it and will start to enjoy cuddling with you.
He knows what kind of effect his voice has on you. And he'll use that knowledge to his advantage, often teasing you by speaking right into your ear with a low, almost husky tone or chuckling smoothly right by your ear.
Like I said before, this man probably has severe trust and abandonment issues. But that will only make him even more dedicated to you. He wouldn't want you to feel like he used to feel deep inside before he met you.
Overall, I think Macaque would be a very good and dedicated boyfriend if you give him time and show him that he can trust you.

Tumblr media
Sun Wukong
Tumblr media
Will gladly revel in your affection
Loves it when you're so willing to show affection, like, yes please do it every day??
If you don't give him his daily affection he literally panics
What happened??? Are you okay????? Where are my kisses >:0????
Spoiled brat
Whines and pouts about you ignoring him, arms crossed and everything
If you humor him and kiss his cheek, he's now giggling and wrapping his arms around you asking for another one
Greedy greedy monkey ♡
When you randomly hug him from behind or kiss him out of no where, gosh, he's so giddy he'll explode with happiness
When you revealed your dragon form to him, he's very amazed
Like, bro? I'm dating this huge giant and they're all mine???? I'm so lucky
Oh my gosh you guys would definitely have the most pettiest races every (fun fact; you'd always win)
Loves to just lay on your dragon form and caress your scales, he's just admiring you in any chance he gets
You can't tell me that he stares at you with the most love struck eyes from a distance
It's really easy to mess with him in your dragon form, continuously shove your tail on his face, laying your giant head on his, he's there acting all pissed but in reality he just loves how playful you are
Imagine that he's fighting a really powerful demon and is actually on the brink of losing and the demon getting all cocky for beating the monkey king
Only to be petrified by a huge dragon right behind him with glowing angered eyes
PS: they pissed their pants
Wukong's eyes lit up at the sight at you, as if he wasn't covered in scratches and bruises
":0! Hi babe!! :D!!"
"YOU'RE DATING A DRAGON?!?!!?!"
Yeah so now nobody wants to mess with monkey King anymore
Six eared Macaque
Tumblr media
Isn't used to physical touch
He flinched the first time you hugged him, and frantically reassured you that no, it's not your fault
But a lot of time and patience can make him get used to your affection, maybe he'll even start to yearn more of it
Subtle touches from his tail is like an invitation to completely drown and smother him with affection
Loves it when you just start touching his hair and scratch behind his ears as you talk about your day, gosh, he's falling so hard rn
But if you don't talk and just stare into his eyes while you pet him, you're killing him
He can't breathe, you're just so mesmerizing and so attractive, stop making his heart beat faster! >:(
Once you showed your dragon form, he's shocked to say the least, but quickly recovers after noticing that it's you
"My my, I never thought I'd be having a dragon wrapped around my finger~♡"
"Love, your tail is wagging really fast right now"
"You're seeing things"
He didn't really want to touch you right away since he's afraid of going over boundaries
But if you reassure him then maybe he'll cinsider
Once he started to scratch under your neck and once you started purring, now be can never stop
He finds you absolutely mesmerizing both on human and dragon
Adores your every being, literally becomes soft when he sees you
MK
Tumblr media
You guys are literally the most cutest, grossest couple ever
The both of you never fail to give each other the dumbest pet names ever and Mei's on her last straw
"Hello my little boo boo bear 🥺"
"Hello to you too shnuckums 🥺"
"You two should shut up 🥺"
You guys literally are beside each other every single day
MK's heart literally swells in happiness when you cheer for him at training
Now he won't stop trying to show off cause he loves the praise coming from you
Literally starts to sulk when you aren't beside him and does everything on his daily routine bad
Very definition of puppy
He's so downbad give him a leash
You wanted to show your dragon form by scaring him, why? He's so cute that's why
So when you roar right on his face he screamed and literally tried to fight you
"WHO ARE YOU?! WHAT DID YOU DO TO (NAME)!?"
"I AM (NAME)!!"
"YOU'RE LYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
So you almost created mass destruction
After calming him down (and showing him your human form to tell that you aren't lying) he's ecstatic
Traumatized, but that's on you
You like to randomly scoop him up on your back and fly around the city with him, his little squeals of happiness and amazement on how high you're flying never gets old
Shyly asks if you wanted you mane to be groomed, why is he so cute oh my gosh
Baby :(
Mei
Tumblr media
Oh my gosh you guys are so cute
You can not tell me that you both wear matching clothes every time you go outside
I'm talking similar colors, designs, aesthetic, everything
Selfies!! Lots of them
If you don't like photos then she can just make you her photographer lol
Is very happy when she knew you were a dragon too! Literally almost exploded with excitement
Now MK has two extremely huge dragon bodyguards
Dragon cuddles, DRAGON CUDDLES!! ♡
She likes to zoom all around the city on her bike with you
And when she's racing, her face beams in excitement knowing that you're watching her
Probably played pattycake on your dragon forms, everyone was concerned
Such a perfect girlfriend ♡

I'm having a Mei brainrot

Wukong cares about people. Macaque isn't a saint.
Alright, I've wanted to write this for a while, so here I go. English isn't my first language, so sorry for any typos.
I've been watching so many fananimations of LEGO Monkie Kid. They're all gorgeous, top of the top, excellent, chef kiss and I'm glad the fandom seems to be growing every day.
But I HATE how so many people have portrayed Wukong as an asshole who doesn't care about anyone. Love the animations, they're great but I don't think Wukong is the villain people make him out to be.
Now don't get me wrong, Wukong has made many, many, many, mistakes throughout his life. The thing is, people don't seem to realize that while he messed up, his intentions were good! "Yeah, right, then how is he such a bad mentor?" I'm gonna shut you up right there.
When MK first got the staff, he didn't know how to use it, I agree with you. But Wukong is a milennia old stone monkey who has gone through a lot on his life, getting stronger and stronger with each fight.
"Pfft, what about DBK? You can handle it! Consider it a trial"
That's what he tells MK when said boy asks him what to do with DBK, because for Wukong that fight is easy. He then reassures him that with enough confidence in himself he could take him on. He trusted MK since the first moment and even told him to consider it as a trial. He was evaluating MK during his fight to make sure he had picked the right successor.
Tumblr media
And just in case and most probably noticing how nervous he was on his first fight, he kept an eye out on him to make sure to intervene in case MK needed help. Wukong already knew that MK was invincible before locking away some of his powers in the second episode, therefore he was confident that he would succeed. And even if he already knew he was going to defeat DBK, he still watched over him to make sure he wouldn't get hurt.
Following this battle, in the first episode "Bad Weather", MK doesn't call for Wukong's help. He's confronting Red Son when suddenly the staff acts on its own and takes him down to the ground and who appears afterwards? The Monkey King himself! Almost as if he had sensed that MK needed some help with defeating Red Son. Almost as if he had been the one to call for the staff so he could talk with his student. Again, he showed up on his own because he cares.
Tumblr media
"Then what about that time he abandoned him?"
He didn't abandon him. To abandon someone is to stop supporting them, to give up completely in someone. Monkey King knew that LBD was coming back but he didn't want either MK or his friends to get hurt.
He's used to doing things on his own! I mean, on JTTW Wukong was always sent ahead to see if there were any demons that would kidnap Tripitaka. And even though he warned his companions numerous times that there were demons under the disguise of innocent people, they wouldn't believe him. So why should he tell MK and his friends that there's an enemy approaching? Every time he had warned other people of other threats, they had never believed him, so why should MK be any different?
I think that's one of the reasons why he didn't even try to defend himself when Pigsy snapped at him. Because he's used to taking the blame. What's the point in trying to do something right if you're going to be blamed for everything going wrong, regardless of how much you try to make it okay? He even tries to keep helping MK through his training with the astral projection throughout the whole season!
Tumblr media
So, he searched for the map that would lead him to the rings of the Samadhi Fire, knowing full well that he could end up dying.
"This wasn't supposed to happen! I thought if I could somehow get the Samadhi Fire out of you, without hurting you of course, then I could put it inside myself. Then, I don't know, use it to burn up the Lady Bone Demon or something?"
Let's remember that while it's difficult to hurt Wukong, the Samadhi Fire is one of the powers that could actually kill him. He was willing to risk his life so he'd be able to save not only the whole world, but his friends as well. Do you realize how crazy that sounds? To be willing to give up his own life to save the Earth?
He even says that he wanted try to get the ring out of Mei without hurting her.
Would someone who didn't care about anyone try to make something as painless as possible for the victim? I don't think so.
Alright, let's focus on Macaque now for a bit.
My biggest beef with this guy is that some people seem to paint him as the misunderstood character who never did anything wrong because "Oh, my best friend abandoned me and woe is me!". Yuck.
While Macaque has many good reasons to be angry at Monkey King, that still doesn't give him the right to kidnap and trick MK. It doesn't give him the right to taunt him and make him feel like shit, nor the right to manipulate him and make him think that he's not a good successor.
"Well, you know what that means! There really isn't anything special about you. You're just some kid with a heavy stick!"
Tumblr media
Macaque knew that if he hurt MK, eventually Wukong would come out to save him, because he knows that he'll protect him. This is a little theory of mine, but Macaque manipulates shadows, right? Who knows how many times he's watched MK from them? Because I don't think his plan to steal MK's powers was something he thought of in just one minute. No, I'm pretty sure that plan took a while to be thought of.
"Ah, MK. You really are dense, aren't you? You saw a story about a hero who got handed everything? Who didn't have to work for anything? And you thought you were the other guy? The second the hero got real power, he couldn't care less about his friends. That's you, bud."
Tumblr media
He tricked him into sharing his insecurities, knowing full well that MK was vulnerable and stressed out about the whole LBD situation, then blamed him for not caring about his friends. He made him doubt whether he truly cares about his friends or not or whether he was even a good person.
And we all know how hard MK's worked to try to get control of his powers, especially after he lost them when LBD took away his staff. MK can be a lot of things: optimistic, a bit smug at times, a bit forgetful... But if there's one thing I'm sure of is that he worked hard to control his powers. He even asked Wukong to limit them so he could control them better, knowing that it'd be harder but he still did it.
And let's take into account that Wukong apologized to MK for how he acted towards him. Macaque, still to this day, hasn't apologized at all. And yet, he keeps mocking Wukong and saying he's the same old Wukong, while he himself is still stuck in the past.
I get that Macaque is angry at Wukong, I really do. But if he were really so angry against him, maybe he should've brought it to Wukong himself instead of using MK. He isn't a saint. He's made mistakes as well. These two are very complicated characters who have gone through a lot, but neither of them are blameless. Macaque isn't a saint, but he does care about some people. And although Wukong has made many mistakes, that doesn't mean that he doesn't care about other people.
Anyways, to finish it off, as MK once said:
"Uh, you know you two are the same, right?"

Hello love your love your fics with goldenlion, peachlion, or sunstone aka Azure x Wukong (I don’t know if the fandom has decided on their ship name yet). But I was hoping you could write a fic where Azure see Wukong get possessed by LBD and has to help in the fight to get him back.
Macaque was going to lose.
He had known it ever since the kid had pleaded with him to help them stop Lady Bone Demon. The kid didn't know this, but Macaque had allowed him his victories in their battles. The first fight, he had still been standing, but he had been tired. The next few, Macaque had been eager to push and pull and had left once he was satisfied. Except for the blown up engine.
They did not talk about the engine.
Sun Wukong was a different story.
Macaque was Wukong's equal, the moon to his sun, his shadow in everything. Subodhi would be given credit for teaching the Monkey King all his powers, but Macaque had helped him hone his powers, and Wukong had taught him back.
Macaque had taught Wukong how to make weapons out of magic. Wukong had taught Macaque how to fight with a staff.
Macaque had taught Wukong how to both focus and spread his power. Wukong had taught Macaque how to shapeshift.
Macaque had taught Wukong how to be the loudest. Wukong had taught Macaque how to be the quietest.
But for all their equal power, Macaque knew that, if push came to shove, the only battle he would lose was when he was fighting Wukong. That prophecy had come true every time they clashed, not even when they fought with weapons, not even when they fought over Wukong's heart.
It was happening right the fuck now, actually.
Macaque hit the ground, somersaulted, and started sprinting. His body ached with pain, begging him to curl up and accept the death wrapped in silver and blue. But he couldn't. He couldn't until the kid got the staff and the dragon girl was freed.
Why the fuck did he go along with this plan again?
A fist slammed down right in front of him before Macaque could think too hard on that. When the dust cleared, the frozen over blue eyes of the possessed Wukong glared up at him. Macaque pushed down the anger at the sight of him in blue and held up his fists. He was tired and running low. Now it was time for good old fisticuffs. "Okay," he said. "Come on, let's do this."
Wukong stared at him as if wondering if he was an idiot, before he moved, slowly. Hands rose and extended sharp claws. Macaque couldn't help a hiss at the sight. Monkeys don't usually have claws like that, but Wukong had grown them out in honor. Another point against him in the battle over Wukong's heart.
Another point to-
"Now, sunlight, please calm down." Before Macaque or Wukong could respond, a burst of power slammed into the monkey. Wukong didn't make a noise as he was thrown back, head over heels, until he landed on his feet.
Macaque didn't look back.
"Last I heard, you were dead." he said instead. He had been gleeful at the news.
"Good behavior," Before Macaque could point out that wasn't really an explanation, Azure leaned on his sword, eyeing Wukong. Macaque was surprised he hadn't lunged at them yet. "I heard my lover was wearing blue, and not the shade I like on him." The words were a nasty sting, just like when Macaque figured out who won the fight, and it certainly wasn't either monkey. "So I came to help."
He pushed it away.
"Good to hear."
Wukong tensed and the battle resumed.

Ok, im not good at trying to say things so if this sounds super weird im sorry.
What about headcanons (Gender neutral reader) with Reader and MK crushing super hard on on eachother, but reader is also being trained by Macaque? so Macaque is the readers mentor? i can imagine Sun Wukong and Macaque teasing MK and the reader XD
sorry if this is too much haha
DADCAQUE CONTENT Y E S- Also kinda made this a progression thing from s1 to s3 so SPOILER ALERT, also, this is literally my brain just dumping out things and scenarios because I was hella excited for this!
Tumblr media
- Honestly I can see Macaque training you if only to prove that he's a better mentor than Wukong and that he can make a protégé stronger than MK.
- We see how brutal he can be training with MK so he is like that with you but he does end up being a bit softer the more and more he starts to care about you. He has to hurt you to make you stronger, in his mind, but he knows it'll pay off in the end.
- He trains you with one enemy in mind, the Monkie Kid. And so you end up having this goal of being stronger than someone you never met and forging this one sided rivalry in your head.
- When you try to get close to him to lower his gaurd and try to steal his powers again or to weaken him, you don't expect him to have...so much golden retriever energy or be as adorable as he is.
- MK is just immediately drawn to you as well. You're mysterious at first but once he gets past that aloof and cold persona you put on, you're actually really adorable and he tells you that too.
- No but Macaque and You having that one moment from the Hercules Movie with Hades and Megara once you start having second thoughts:
Macaque: I can't believe you're getting worked up over some...GUY!
Y/n: This one is different! He's honest a-and he's sweet-
Macaque: Please.
Y/n: And he'd never do anything to hurt me!
Macaque: HE'S A GUY.
(I'm sorry, when I saw the request, I immediately thought of this scene)
- But anyways, yes, when its time to reveal that you're not who you seem, MK is heartbroken but he teams up with his mentor to take you and your mentor down.
- You surprise EVERYONE with your abilities and fighting prowess and if he wasn't the one you were fighting, MK wouldn't have any problem admitting that he kinda finds that attractive. But he IS your opponent so he doesn't find it attractive and means that its all the more reason to take you and your mentor down.
- But then you skillfully dodge his next barrage of attacks and land an uppercut kick to his face before landing a blow and, yes it hurts, but it was also kinda cool. He'll give you that-
- It does hurt him because he trusted you and he kinda doesn't like you for a while because he believes that everything you two did was jus an act. Wukong tries to comfort him about it
- Meanwhile you're a bit distracted as you spar with your mentor because you keep thinking about MK so moments where Macaque notices you spacing off during a fight until he just stops training and is all: "Why are you so distracted? Is it because of MK again?"
- "Huh- N-NO, OF COURSE NOT. IT'S NOT BECAUSE OF MK AT ALL- i just, uh...am worried if I left the stove on?"
- Yeah, it's so VERY clear that you and MK got it bad for each other and obviously it's not good, at least, not in your mentors eyes but at the same time, it is kinda ironic in a way.
- SO EXPECT MACAQUE TO TRY AND USE YOU TO BRING MK TO THE DARKSIDE AND WUKONG TRYING TO USE MK TO BRING YOU TO THE LIGHT SIDE.
- but now focusing on you and MK, when you two meet again, MK is emotional and hurt and it's obvious he's trained harder just to fight you but before he lands the final blow to knock you unconscious, he gives you those puppy dog eyes and asks: "Was everything we did together...when we first met, was any of that real? Or was it all fake?"
- And you don't know what to say, because, like...you don't even know yourself. Yeah, at first it was fake but then you got comfortable with him and haven't been able to get him off of your mind since but...but-
- You don't ever get to answer his question as Macaque uses his shadow powers to teleport you back to him, immediately worried when he sees MK's fist raised towards you.
- But also, anon, you are so right, Wukong and Macaque would also tease the life out of their students.
- Wukong just being all: "Now, MK, we're going up against Macaque. So, try to focus on taking down Macaqye and not eyeing his student."
- MK: "EYEING, WHAT- I DON'T EYE THEM. I JUST...uh...I don't know...but I DON'T EYE THEM."
- And then meanwhile, moments where Macaque is all: "He's coming, are you sure you can handle him, kiddo?"
- You: "Of course I can, why wouldn't I?"
- And then he just gives you this smug smile and you feel embarrassed because you know he knows about your crush on MK so you just glare back at him and pout and look the other way, which makes him laugh.
- NO BUT INFURIATINGLY CLOSE MOMENTS WHERE YOU AND MK ARE GONNA CONFESS TO EACH OTHER BUT YOU NEVER GET THE CHANCE.
- Also scenarios where you and him are supposed to work together and at first, you guys act like you can't stand each other but slowly you guys become closer and closer.
- Like lets say a demon kidnaps the both of you because of your mentors and you and MK have to work together to get out.
- First its arguments of: "Well, well, if it isn't the Monkie Kid!"/ "AT LEAST I'M NOT A LIAR!"/ but then you two realize you have to come to a truce and such so that's what you do and as you help each other, you get reminded of things you like about each other.
- MK gets injured and you check in on him and he's surprised but smiles at you because HE KNEW YOU GENUINELY CARED FOR HIM. But then you get all tsundere and try to deny it.
- OKAY BUT THEN S3 COMES AROUND AND LADY BONE DEMON TAKES YOU AS A HOSTAGE AND THAT'S ANOTHER REASON WHY MACAQUE HAS TO BRING BACK MK AND WUKONG.
- And MK notices you're not with him and he gets angry at Macaque because YOU'RE HIS STUDENT. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO PROTECT YOU. NOW YOU'RE IN THE HANDS OF THE LADY BONE DEMON AND- AND- YOU'RE PROBABLY SUFFERING AND-
- Yeah, they definetly get into a fight and Macaque is all: "Yeah, but its your fault too. If you truly cared about them, then you'd come with me-"
- Obviously MK declines and fights him and then the canon stuff happens but he feels more motivated than ever to get the rings of Samadhi and stop the Lady Bone Demon.
- OKAY BUT WHAT IF SINCE YOU'RE MACAQUE'S STUDENT YOU END UP HAVING A BIT OF THE SAME TELEKINETIC ABILITIES AS MK TOO. OR LIKE, HE USES HIS TELEKINESIS WITH YOU AND YOU USE YOUR SHADOWS TO COMMUNICATE WITH HIM.
- Like at first you managed to send a shadow to let him know you're okay (which is a lie, LBD isn't exactly known to treat her prisoners well) and talk to him and then he tries to gain his telekinesis powers so he can appear to you as well.
- Overall when he does defeat the Lady Bone Demon, he is so excited to see you're okay, a bit bruised up but fine and the both of you don't even care who sees anymore, you run to each other and do a dramatic "you jump into MK's arms and he lifts you into the air as you both share a passionate kiss" kinda of moment, everyone is cheering except for Wukong and Macaque, who are taking in the scene.
- Wukong: "You owe him, you know. He saved your disciple."
- Macaque: "Yeah, I know. Plus, he makes (Y/n) happy and thats all I could hope for them."
- Obviously Macaque is awkward when he tries to check on you, since its his fault you got mixed up with LBD anyways but then you hug him and tell him you're glad he's alright and he smiles and hugs you back.
- No but him and Wukong being THOSE dad's and are all: "For the record, if MK breaks their heart I will break every bone in his body."/ "UM, MK WOULD NEVER DO THAT BUT YOU'RE LITTLE DELINQUENT STUDENT MIGHT-"/ "They would NEVER-"
- So yeah, other than the monkey dad rivalry and whole "we like each other but we're on different sides" slow burn, things do end up pretty good for you and MK and Macaque and Wukong are a little more lenient with letting you two be together because for a minute, you guys were scared that you might never be able to tell the other how you truly feel.

While LBD had Wukong possessed, I think that to keep him under control she would put him in an illusion where he lives a happy life next to Macaque and Jinzi. To awaken Wukong must face the true reality of him. I imagine him as Ahikito from ID-Invaded when he remembers and 'talks' to his death wife and daughter.
Although I have no idea what ID-Invaded is, but this whole idea is sad enough that I don't wanna look into Ahikito's time with his dead family.
Truthfully this would make sense tho-
mini fic again-
Wukong's dream
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wukong blinked his eyes, and he winced as a bright light shined in his eyes. Slowly, but carefully, he sat up wearing his former clothes, and looked around.
“Wha-” He was home. Flower fruit mountain. Before he left for Buddha. Before the fire. Before the accident. “But how-?”
“Wukong!” A voice called out to him. One laced with honey and smelled like mangos and apricots. “Wukong, over here!”
Wukong turned around and his breath hitched.
There, standing wearing a baby blue hanfu, white fur shining in the sunlight, holding their baby daughter, was Mίhόu. He had a warm smile on his face as he waved at Wukong. “There you are. Had a good dream? You’ve been asleep forever!”
"M-Mίhόu-" This wasn't possible. It shouldn't be possible. And yet, here he was back home with his mate and cub waiting for him.
Macaque walked up to Wukong as the king slowly stood to his feet, and chuckled. His smile never left his face once- something that should have bothered Wukong, but seeing his husband so carefree like this seemed to overcome that thought. "It seems you kept your promise, as always," Macaque said. "...Welcome home, Wukong."
Their daughter Jῑnzi let out a chirp and held onto her father, giggling happily. Wukong was surprised at the sudden action, before breaking out into a smile and holding his princess close to him. He was beaming so much, he couldn't help but let out a chirp of his own, and nuzzled into her head. She was soft and warm, just as he remembered her. Just as he always remembered her. "My little girl..." Wukong's voice was soft, and filled with love. "I hope you've been well."
Macaque chuckled, and hugged them both. "Mm, it's good to see you again." He kissed Wukong's cheek and purred into his husband's neck. "Now, I believe someone promised our daughter a day full of whatever she desired?" Macaque said slowly, his tail wagging once in a while in content.
Jῑnzi chirped and clapped her hands in joy. "Ah! Ah!" She chirped out happily and looked at her father. "Play! Play!"
Both Macaque and Wukong froze, and they looked at their daughter in surprise.
Did she just...talk?
"P-play..?" Wukong said, his voice growing higher in joy. "You wanna play with your father and bὰba?" Tears of joy were growing in his eyes, and he laughed out. "Say it again! Say it again!"
"Play! Play play play!" Jῑnzi chirped out, clueless of how her parents were reacting to her words. Clueless to how she finally spoke her first words.
Macaque stared at his daughter in shock, and silent tears grew in his eyes as pride flowed in his chest. "Play...? Y-you want to play...?"
Wukong laughed more and hugged his daughter tightly. "Yeah! Yeah, we'll play! We'll play all day, and we won't stop playing until you want to! Haha!"
It was truly a special day for Wukong. He was back in his mountain, with his mate and cub at his side once again. Everything was wonderful again, after so long. Everything was perfect...
So why did Wukong feel a pit continue to grow in his stomach the longer he relished in this peace?
--------------------------------------------
Do note Jῑnzi's first words were actually "plum", not "play".
Things I’m excited to see in s5
- Azure Lion finding out who was pulling the strings the whole time (his eyes glowed ink green when he achieved his goal and I think that that’s something)
- The reveal of who stole the scroll and presumably gave it to Jin & Yin or AL (I firmly believe it wasn’t Azure because the person in the cloak had human proportions)
- Azure getting stuck with leaderly responsibilities (this could very well be played for comedy)
- Everyone learns why exactly the Jade Emperor being absorbed(?) is such a bad thing for the universe
- Peng insulting more people down to their core (I am firmly on the side of the fandom that likes that bird and I think he’s got an interesting role in the group dynamic)
- Yellow Tusk being wise in a significant way (like maybe a line where he’s like “Hey Azure, something’s up with you, maybe calm down a little?”
- Nezha being taught that he has value beyond what post he can take up and maybe having a cute moment where he at least smiles
- More content regarding Princess Iron Fan’s days as a celestial (this one I’m fine with because that shot with her and DBK’s first meeting is everything to me)
- More DBK angst (dude clearly has an issue with being called “weak” and I want to see another adorable shot with him and his wife saving each other from the ink)
- Red Son confronting his own issues + maybe even his parental abuse (maybe we could get flashbacks if we’re lucky)
- MK OR MEI RESCUING RED SON (if the show ends up leaving the fam in the scroll because they’re villains and it gets them out of the way I will be PISSED)
- MK, Macaque and the audience finally seeing what mind games Wukong was being put through (because we didn’t actually get to see that in s4 and since he never got out I bet we’re being set up to finally see him and Mac’s fallout in s5)
- More monkey form MK (hopefully him eventually coming to “embrace it” without “accepting his destiny”)
- MK finding out what exactly Subodhi meant by the stone being remade to make another celestial / demon monkey, but MK not actually being born from the stone (maybe getting to meet that goddess in the artwork who potentially shaped him (Quanyin?))
- Finding out what happened to the Samadhi Fire (we haven’t seen Mei use it since LBD and the only time it was mentioned since was Subodhi talking about it in past tense, and honestly if the writers nerfed her simply because they had trouble write conflict while Mei had that universe-destroying power I’m kinda chill with that)
- Sandy’s being “too nice for [his] own good” becoming a character flaw that he has to get past in order to save his friends (someone on tumblr came up with the theory that Sandy’s hiding something and being super nice on purpose and I haven’t been able to stop thinking of it)
- Seeing WTF happened to the Mayor after LBD’s defeat (did he shrivel up and die because his source of immortal power was destroyed? did he actually get arrested by the Megapolis law enforcement that we’ve never seen because everyone saw their mayor hanging behind the demon freezing and destroying the city + he’s more closely connected to human society than any of the other villains so he deserves a human punishment? Or did he actually get away and is currently plotting revenge while having an identity crisis? (please writers even if he anticlimactically died off-screen I WANT TO KNOW))
#wow ok this was a lot of stuff#but I wanted to cover all of my thoughts#I might actually think of more later so I might ykow add part 2.5#lego monkie kid#lego monkie kid season 5#lmk#lmk s5#lmk season 5#longpost#I'm so invested in this 2 part season#they really left episodic format behind since season 3#Lily Orchard is gonna hate this#but Ink MK is right#now that they've experienced all that they have it's impossible to go back#the show is clearly disregarding that old rule of episodic superhero shows not developing their protagonists or acknowledging their trauma#LMK is becoming darker and I have mixed feelings about it#also I did not expect MK to actually be surprised that his name could also be an acronym for his title#I guess he really wasn't lying when he said his name was so long he went by MK#his mind was BLOWN#love that identity realization for him#at first I was sceptical of monkey mk being canonized#because I thought it was fine that mk was just a normal teenager who inexplicably had easy access to the monkey king's powers#it is a kid's show after all#but Tang pointing it out actually proved the show had more thought put into it than I'd realized#of course that's not to say that the show isn't clever or doesn't have meaning#I just thought lmk was going to be more like a thoughtless kid's show with a bit of heart#but honestly#considering my child self#I would've been so grateful for this plot twist#because I was a kid who analyzed the heck out of any show I watched
how did macauqe meet MK in the struggling dad AU?
Ohh good question! It’s actually different from the canon show. Macaque doesn’t meet Mk in person but instead watched him when he first brought Yán Hào to the city. He wasn’t happy. Story time from this one! Part 2!
Macaque was angry. No in rage. How does this mortal know about Wukong and their cub, Yán Hào?! Why is he holding his baby?! Most of all, WHY IS HE HERE!!?? Where’s Wukong?!? He’s smart enough to know the risk of bringing their cub here!! He frowned more when he saw this human call, Tang ran to his cub, scaring him more and making him more uncomfortable than he already is. The mortal, Mk grabbed his baby and laughed telling everyone to calm down.
“Guys, guys calm down! I know it’s shocking, but this is Monkey King's son.” He smiled while Pigsy sighed. “MK why do you have him here?” Pigsy said while Mk smiled. “He was lonely, so I brought him here!” He smiled.
“Does Monkey King know?” Tang said standing in front of Mk looking at Yán Hào studying him and writing things down.
Macaque snarled angrily; his eyes glowing but looked concerned when he saw his baby on the verge of crying. His cub was uncomfortable with the attention. Funny how he got Wukong stage fright but being different with attention from others. He watched when Yán Hào scratched Mk's hand making him yelp and run off hiding into the back room. They went after him, but Macaque was ahead hearing the river demon stopping them. He slithers into the room seeing his cub hiding under a cabinet making him whimper.
“Yán Hào.” He whispers softly, coming out of the shadows and chirping for his baby.
Yán Hào ears perk up and he chirps loudly coming out and hugging Macaque. The shadow monkey holding his baby close and kissing his head softly comforting his precious gem. He rubs his back hearing the gang out there talking about letting the little cub calm down and everyone agreeing. He rolled his eyes not liking that kid and looked at Yán Hào whimpering softly fat tears falling.
“Yán Hào are you okay?” He said softly sitting down, his cub nodding. “Good…now tell me. How did that mortal boy find you? Is your Bàba okay?” He asked worriedly, wiping his cub tears, and kissing him.
Yán Hào hiccup and look at his Māma and chirps explaining everything. Macaque listens and his eyes widen hearing this and look at the blinds. Wukong…his peaches have a successor?! He heard Yán Hào go quiet holding tightly and Macaque sighed standing up.
“Let’s take you home…Your Bàba must be looking for you now” Macaque smiled, holding him close and sinking down into the shadow portal just as Mk walked in calling for Yán Hào.
okayh okay HI you said you wanted to know about the freedom/passion dichotomy thing? ive got the graph and i am going to do my best to explain this to you despite me barely having a grasp of it on myself. THIS IS VERY LONG IM SORRY.
so the first thing you need to know is this just started as a way to split my ocs and help me make character arcs and motivations, and it became a little bit of a habit to categorize my favorite characters this way as well. its is in no means a perfect dichotomy, and im constantly looking for ways to refine it, but for now the best way ive found to illustrate it is this:
Tumblr media
basically its which think they represent most... or what they value the most? idk its kind of a case-by-case basis and is dictated by Vibe. like I said THIS IS VERY FLAWED so bare with me pls
when i first started watching lmk i sorted all of the characters i knew into either category. this was within the first four/five days are watching so some of it might be.. off? but i think its still worth something as my first impression of the characters, and it'll probably help illustrate what i mean
Wukong -> Freedom Macaque -> Passion Wukong and Macaque have this thing where one has too much freedom and is learning to temper that with passion (wukong) and the other has too MUCH emotion and is trying everything he can to gain true freedom (macaque) (this is true even when he isn't under LBD's control but is esp prevalent then). they each value the opposite thing they stand for and are trying to be more like the other, without even realizing it. MK -> Freedom Dont get me wrong! He very much has passion! He holds a lot of emotion in that body! but a lot of that passion is the passion for freedom. he just wants to be able to be himself and hang out with his friends, he doesn't do well with all this responsibility :C Mei -> Passion Does this need defending? High sense of duty (mainly towards her ancestors and her friends), and so incredibly passionate. and impulsive. She spits fire when angry! Nothing more to be said honestly. Red Son -> Passion Is a really good parallel to Mei, has too much passion to fit in his body. [In the original notes, I noted that he was 'scared of true freedom, but doesn't know that yet. I'm pretty sure this references his relationship to his parents? Smth smth he's too scared of making them angry so he doesn't explore who he is outside of his relation and loyalty to them?] Pigsy -> Passion this man doesn't need freedom when he as his passion for food. what does he need to be free from? he has everything he wants HEART EMOJI! Tang -> ...Its complicated The thing with tang is that he kind of gets like a character arc with like. Responsibility and his care for his friends? He goes from low passion/high freedom to low freedom/high passion over the course of the show. please note that i am insane about him and if i really wanted i could write a whole essay about him. Sandy -> ??? ONCE AGAIN ITS WEIRD. I WISH THE SHOW FOCUSED MORE ON HIS CHARACTER AND BACKSTORY BC I CANT GET A READ ON HIM.
okay thats the main cast, and HERES THE ALIGNMENT CHART ACCORDING TO THAT. WITH OTHERS AS WELL.
Tumblr media
theres not a lot of people without any value of freedom and passion at the same time so the grey area is pretty empty LMAO.
ANYWAYS. I BROUGHT THIS UP TO BEGIN WITH BECAUSE OF THE CHARACTERS WITH EYE SCARS TRIFECTA!!! Basically i see them all of how i described macaque earlier. He's trapped in a situation that he doesn't want to be in, whether it be LBD's control or his situation wiht wukong or his own creepy and standoffish persona/his trust issues making it hard to make real connections with others.
(in contrast wukong loves doing his own thing and just Hanging Out and never stopping his own momentum, but he also has trouble caring about... a lot of things actually. he's just soo easygoing! responsibility harshes his vibe!)
But anyways, macaque's problems are very similar to quackity and tempest's, i feel. Quackity constantly feels trapped by physical threats like techno or dream, and also his own circumstances and trauma (a lot of it from schlatt and manburg). a lot of his actions are him trying to reclaim the freedom he used to feel when he was younger. tempest felt she couldn't be truly herself without her horn, but in trying to get it she got herself in a really bad situation where any wrong move could get her killed.
The passion part comes in play in different ways for them all. Quackity tried not to care about people for a while, but still can never stop being extremely loyal and protective of his friends. Tempest had lots of rage inside her and was so intensely driven to get to her goal. And Macaque canNOT stop obsessing over wukong honestly. All three of them are very passionate, and all three of them are constantly trying to gain more freedom.
This is a super long ask, but thank you for inviting me to ramble about this lmao. I think everyone represents freedom or passion in their own way, and this dichotomy really only matters for characters BUT I THINK ITS FUN. THANK YOU FOR COMING TO MY TEDTALK!!!!!
i had a whole Thing written out and i was so proud of it and then my phone decided to delete it before i could post and not save as draft. but yeah im putting this chart in the microwave and then eating it and then putting it in the fridge so i can keep it overnight and microwave and eat it again. this is so fucking Good. in their attempts for freedom macaque cquack and tempest all disown the people they were when they Were free, bc they want to be unbound entirely, but they Feel too deeply for that to ever be a possibility for them. so they do the next best thing and try to pass those "lessons" they've learned on to others OUGH it makes me sick!!!
'Help' AU Chapter 13.
Wukong woke up late. Just like every morning his legs were paralyzed. He didn't get up. He looked around the room. There was no Macaque. But his armor lay next to him. All gold. He said softly, "Liuer?" but it was enough for the warrior to emerge from the shadows next to his sun.
''Hi. Did you sleep well?” asked Macaque.
“How long?” asked the king.
''Don't worry, you won't be late. Bring you something to eat?” The king nodded. The warrior sank back into the shadows. Wukong stayed alone in the room for only a moment.
Macaque had a tray full of fruit, mostly his sun's favorite peaches.
"Why don't you give me some tea first?" said the king ironically.
"Why don't you tell me these things before?" He glared at Wukong.
The warrior took a waterskin from the shadows and handed it to the king, who drank some and gave it back to his moon. Wukong sat up straight.
"Drink more..." said Macaque.
''Before the fight''
''Agree. Now eat." The king obeyed. He ate everything Macaque brought.
"I see you have an appetite," said the warrior with a smile.
“I need energy,” Wukong replied. "Yet you brought me armor"
''Well, I thought if you're going to fight anyway, then with class.. now try it on. Everyone is already in the field and waiting''
"And yet I slept long," said the king
"It's not noon yet, but they're all gathered there to see the show anyway."
"How many gods are there?"
''A lot. Come on, put that armor on."
Wukong donned his armor. It fit him perfectly, but it was actually heavy. The king staggered on his feet.
''I can...''
“No, it must be me.” He took his staff out of his ear.
''Ready?''
The king nodded. Macaque opened a shadow portal and they passed through it.
DBK was waiting on the other side of the battlefield. He didn't look pleased. He was worried.
Monkey King looked around and saw the celestials watching from above. Among them were Erlang, Guain and Nezha.
Wukong felt a slight doubt about it all for a moment. But he looked at his moon and immediately his sorrows left. He was ready.
''No madness. I'll be waiting for you here." Said the warrior. The king kissed him goodbye.
The sky was clear anyway.
The time of battle has come. There was no going back. The show must go on.
DBK was the first to strike. They started to push. Wukong blocked all strikes. But it was more tiring than the king expected. He could barely catch his breath. But he couldn't stop. The crown left its mark on him. DBK saw Wukong start to drip blood from under his crown. That's why he gave the opportunity for the monkey to attack him. It was supposed to be just a show, not a fight for life, but for Wkong with this crown, it was a fight for life. The king had to remember that he could not be carried away by his emotions. DBK looked intact. On the other hand, Wukong showed his tiredness and his pain caused by the crown. The celestials watched it with a cold stare. DBK realized that if he hits too hard now, Wukong may not get up again and it will spoil the whole show. Their eyes met. DBK nodded. Showing that it's time for the finale. Wukong summoned his cloud and flew up as fast as he could. He used all his energy to cut off the top of the mountain. At the same time, he almost lost his balance. He directed his staff straight at DBK who were ready for it. It was obvious to all the celestials that DBK had indeed been sealed, but in fact, as planned, Macaque used the shadow portal and moved DBK to the castle.
Wukong fell to his knees from exhaustion. The warrior noticed that his sun was not rising. He quickly used the shadow portal to get to the king.
“Wukong?” said the warrior. The king was breathing heavily. The warrior heard no reply. He knelt before the king and saw that his sun was still struggling with the pain of the crown. All of the king's hair was smeared with blood. The warrior put his hand on the king's cheek.
“Wukong?” said Macaque again.
"Take me away from here.. please." Tears streamed down the king's face. The warrior looked at him with eyes full of love and compassion.
''All right. Can you get up?''
''No.. probably not''
The warrior sighed. He created a shadow portal and moved it to them so that they disappeared into it.
The Haunted Mansion (part 3) - monkie kid oneshot
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Wukong and the kids finally find out what’s happening at the Haunted Mansion but will they manage to make it out alive?
Read on ao3
Wukong walks next to Macaque as they wander through the halls while chatting politely; Macaque seeming nervous to ask any questions but happy to listen to Wukong, “your home is incredible! I’ve never been to somewhere like this before and it’s an honour to get the chance to write about it!” Macaque nods to show he was listening before stopping in front of a door; opening the door before turning to Wukong and stepping back to allow him to go in first, “this is my study, I thought it was an appropriate place to talk about the book” he says while avoiding eye contact with Wukong.
The study is 10 times the size of Wukong’s at home and even has a second floor. A rickety, metal spiral-staircase being the only way up to the second floor that Wukong can see. Almost all it’s walls are covered in book shelves; filled with old books that look to be collecting dust while others have been thrown across the floor haphazardly. The far wall, that’s been knocked down, leads into an old greenhouse. However, just like the garden outside, the plants in the greenhouse have clearly been neglected and have become overgrown; practically crawling across the walls and floor to the point you could barely get into the greenhouse. It hurts Wukong’s soul in a way he can’t describe.
Macaque catches his mournful look and sighs like he’s disappointed in himself before mumbling a quiet apology, one that Wukong almost missed, “you don’t have to apologise to me… owning such a large home must make it hard to take care of everything.” Macaque smiles in silent thanks but he still looks sad and disappointed in himself before saying “this home was… gorgeous back in the day but sadly I- my grandfather let most of the servants go after he experienced a cruel tragedy.” Wukong tries not to look happy but a ‘cruel tragedy’ is prime writing material and though the mansion is imposing he hasn’t actually had any ideas yet. He’s also apparently bad at hiding his joy because Macaque laughs after sneaking a glance at him, “it’s okay, you can ask.”
His little mistake seems to have gotten Macaque to crawl out of his shell and genuinely smile at Wukong; he actually looks quite cute when he’s smiling instead of the mysterious, objectively hot, brooding look he normally has. It makes Wukong relax and feel comfortable enough to wander further into the room and look around; eventually walking around a red, plush sofa and plopping down on it. He’s closer to Macaque’s desk now which is piled high with papers and books; the greenhouse is behind it and a decorated rug underneath his feet. He can see a red, wine stain on the rug but chooses to ignore it because he’s not innocent of having stained something expensive with some red wine.
However, when he looks up at Macaque he sees his face distorted in horror. Wukong quickly gets up and starts to apologise but Macaque waves his hand to try and calm him down, “it’s okay! It’s just… um, you may not want to sit there after hearing the story.” Wukong nods but still feels like he did something wrong as Macaque starts to tell the story, “my grandfather fell in love with one of the gardeners, however, they had to keep their relationship a secret so he wasn’t ostracised by the nobility… he still loved them though and was prepared to give up everything for his love but the night of the proposal… my grandfather found them dead… on that sofa.” He stops to point at the sofa and Wukong feels a chill go down his spine because he sat where someone died, it’s an eerie feeling. “Yeah… he poisoned himself to get away from my grandfather and in his suicide note he explained that he never loved him and after falling pregnant thought it was the only way out… my grandfather couldn’t go on after that and hung himself from that staircase.”
Wukong stands frozen in shock while Macaque stares at the spiral staircase numbly, “I- I’m so sorry… it must be terrible to live in a place with such a horrible history.” Macaque nods solemnly before turning to Wukong and staring into his eyes lovingly, it’s a shocking difference to the way Macaque had been acting so far. He had avoided Wukong’s eyes since the dinning room but now he feels like Macaque is looking into his soul. Wukong feels like he can’t move as Macaque leans closer, pausing to look into Wukong’s eyes, before kissing him. Macaque gently places his hand on Wukong’s waist but when Wukong doesn’t kiss back he jumps back and stares at Wukong like he just ripped out his heart, “you don’t remember! I thought you would remember if I brought you back” he mutters.
Wukong stumbles back before knocking into Macaque’s desk; he feels like a trapped fly on a wall as Macaque continues to ramble like a mad man before asking “do you remember?! Or do you just hate me so much you’d rather forget we were every together!” Wukong opens and closes his mouth, looking like a fish, before yelling “we have never met!… I don’t know what’s going on but I’m not whoever you think I am!” Wukong tries to subtly reach for his switch army knife in his back pocket as he shuffled towards a door.
Macaque laughs but it’s devoid of any humour and he looks like he’s about to cry, “Wukong… you killed yourself while claiming that you never loved me… but I don’t believe that, we were happy! It’s why I’m still here and you’ve come back to me! Neither of us can move on without the other, it’s why I ‘tricked’ you into coming here!” That’s about all Wukong needed to hear because he’s managed to shuffle to a door and throws it open before sprinting away.
Wukong truly regrets not doing more cardio as he races down the corridors yelling for Mk and Mei because he needs to get his babies out of here. However, as he turns a corner he’s met with Macaque; standing still and looking like he didn’t even break a sweat. He tries to back track and spin around to run away again but Macaque is magically behind him so, in panic Wukong grabs his pocket knife and shoves it into his abdomen. Macaque doesn’t react just stares at Wukong before glancing down at where a knife is sticking out of himself, pulling it out like it’s nothing. “I apologise but… darling, I’m already dead”, Wukong starts backing away in horror but Macaque grabs his arm before he can get far, “darling, it’s going to be okay! Once we’re married whatever curse is keeping us here will be lifted!”
Wukong takes back his arm but Macaque has backed him against a wall so, with no way out he tries to ramble “I’m alive! Shall I remind you about that little verse that goes ‘till death do us part’?” Macaque looks away in guilt and suddenly a cold chill goes down his spine, “let me guess it’s going to be till after death do we gather” which he gets a silent nod from Macaque for, “you want to kill me?… what about my kids?” Wukong is shaking and Macaque smiles sympathetically as he slides closer, “don’t worry, my love, I would never separate you from your children… I’m actually happy you brought them because after the wedding we’ll all be together, as a family!”
He takes one step closer and Wukong decides it’s time to strike; kicking him as hard as possible in the crotch (which seems to work) before making a run for it again. Maybe if he manages to find his kids they might be able to get out of here. However, just as he starts to break into a sprint he feels something hit the back of his head, hard, and he tries to cling to the walls as the world begins to spin. Wukong can hear muffled yelling, like he’s under water, shouting “MOTHER! What have you done?!”, “child… I apologise but once he wakes up we’ll make sure he remembers.” Wukong desperately tries to crawl away but it’s all for nothing as the world slowly turns black.
Meanwhile the kids aren’t having much luck getting out of their makeshift prison and Mk has started shoving a hair pin into the lock in hopes it will magically unlock while Mei is looking around the room for anything they could use. She’s looking over a bookshelf against a wall and scrunches her nose up at the sight of some of the books, “okay I’m kinda leaning towards weird cult because these people have way too many books on the occult.” This gets MK’s attention and he abandons the door to look at these books.
“The lesser key of Solomon… daemonologie… book of Burial and… book of witchcraft” Mk mutters and curiously he reaches out and takes the book of witchcraft. He hears a quiet click sound as he takes the book and curiously Mk investigates the bookcase, seeing a string that would’ve been hidden by the book. Mk, being the curious kid that he is, pulls on the sting causing the heavy book shelf to swing off the wall like a door.
A shocked Mei rushes over and throws open the secret door only to see a staircase going up, “how on earth did you manage to find a secret passage?!” Mk shrugs while holding up the book he pulled out, “I dunno… I was curious about this book” he paused to read the title for Mei, “book of witchcraft by… Liu er Mihou… wait, Liu er, isn’t that Macaque’s real name?” Mk gives the book to Mei so she can see for herself before saying “yeah… that’s Macaque’s name but we don’t have time for that! We need to find Wukong and get the hell out of here!” Mei throws the book back and it bounces on the bed before turning the torch on her phone on (checking that she still doesn’t have signal) before cautiously going into the secret passage. Mk is about to follow her but he can’t help but feel like the book might come in handy so, he grabs it before rushing after her.
The passage is dark but as Mei points her phone’s torch around Mk spots a huge spider web making him cling to Mei in fear, “Mei… there’s spiders in here” he whispers. They get to the top of the staircase which leads to a wooden trapdoor; there’s some light spilling through the cracks and they can hear muffled voices, “I don’t like this… the Lady bone demon has got Macaque convinced this wedding will fix everything but- but I’m not so sure” a voice grumbles.
Mei is trying to listen closely but Mk keeps pulling on her shirt distracting her so she spins around ready to shush him but stops when she sees him staring in horror at her while a large, black spider crawls up his arm. Quickly, she grabs the spider and throws it away allowing Mk to relax; crisis averted Mei is about to go back to eavesdropping when a spider drops down from the ceiling and lands on Mk’s face. Time feels like it slows down as Mk processes what just happened before screaming out in terror and trying to get the spider off. Mei tries to help but before she can the trap door is thrown open and the kids are dragged out of the passage by the pig demon that took their stuff.
“What the hell are you two doing? Staying in that room was for your own protection” he grumbles while dangling the kids by their collars like misbehaving kittens. Mei growls at him while trying to swing back and forth in order to kick or punch him which is when the other servant from earlier, still in his monk robes, stepped in and said “please, calm down… we just want to help.”
Mei is still growling but has stopped her swinging, meanwhile, a shellshocked Mk nervously asked “who are you? And why are you all obsessed with our baba?” The servants look at each other before the pig demon gently puts the kids back down and the monk says “I’m Tripitaka and that’s Bajie… and we’re not obsessed with your father, it’s just, we need him to marry our master so the curse will be lifted.”
The kids look at them suspiciously before asking “what curse” and this time Bajie answers them; gruffly answering by swinging his hand towards Tripitaka with the kid’s watching in shock as his hand and Tripitaka’s head turn into smoke before recovering, “we’re all dead, have been for decades, but for some reason we can’t leave and that bitch has managed to convince Macaque that the way this curse will be lifted is by marrying your dad!”
They take a minute to fully process what the ghosts just said before Mei yells “WHAT THE HELL?! He can’t marry our baba! It does even- why oour baba?!” Bajie nods his head while Tripitaka sighs, “you probably saw the portrait of Wukong in your room” Tripitaka says and only continues when he sees the kids nod, “well, that is a portrait of a gardener that worked here while we were alive… Macaque fell in love with him and Lady bone demon Baigujing, his mother, has convinced him that your father is his lost love and that by marrying him the curse would be lived.” He’s cut short when Bajie yells “WHICH IS BULLSHIT! I saw that bitch hide something up here after Wukong’s death and I’m convinced it shows she had something to do with it!”
With that Bajie starts rummaging through the dusty attic before the group here’s a door slam open and the kids are ushered behind some clutter by Bajie and Tripitaka, “no matter what you hear stay hidden!”
Mei falls back and throws her hands out to steady herself and one board creeks under her weight while Mk crouches down next to her in hopes of staying hidden. Curiously, Mei presses down on the board and hears it creak again but also move. Mk tries to shush her as he hears that creepy lady, that he now knows is Baigujing or Lady bone demon and Macaque’s mother, yell at Bajie and Tripitaka “I thought I made it clear that you two shouldn’t be up here! Now, I need you two to go help the bride get ready… he’s agreed to get married as long as those brats stay safe.” Mk is shocked at the news while Mei pulls up the floorboard, making a loud creeping sound, and sees an old leather diary in the dark hiding place.
Mk peeks his head out to check if that lady heard the noise and makes direct eye contact with her. He squeaks before snapping his head towards Mei who is flicking through the diary so, he quickly grabs the diary along with the witchcraft book and hides them under his shirt just as the lady storms around the clutter hiding them and glares down at them, “now children… we have a wedding to get to.”
——————————————————————————
She drags them down the hallways of the mansion before stopping outside of a large menacing door, “now listen here you brats! I am done with this eternal limbo and my son needs to move on and I’m not letting you two mess that up!” The kids try to get away but the lady’s grip was so strong it was painful and before anything else can be said Wukong walks down the hallway with Tripitaka at his side.
Wukong is wearing a long lace wedding dress with puffy sleeves and a deep v-neck that is kept modest with see through lace covering everything to his neck and has white silk gloves going past his elbows. He looks absolutely horrified at the sight of his kids before turning to LBD and yelling “you promised if I did this my kids would be let go!” The lady laughs and waves her hand like she can just brush off Wukong’s anger, “as soon as the wedding is done the kids will be free to go.” Wukong still doesn’t look happy but LBD starts up the wedding without caring by opening the doors to reveal a red carpet leading to Macaque stood waiting, with Bajie at his side.
He looks so happy to see Wukong and his tail wags with excitement as he walks down the aisle with Tripitaka at his side. The kids are dragged along by LBD and are forced to listen as she quickly goes through the vows. Wukong is given a cup of poisoned wine and is bought to bring it to his lips when Macaque reaches out and grabs his wrist.
“I can’t do this… mother this isn’t right! Wukong should get to live his life and if he never loved me that’s just something I have to accept” he yells and Mei can feel LBD shaking with anger but before she can manipulate Macaque further Mei yells back “Wukong didn’t hate you!” LBD is shock and tries to cover Mei’s mouth with her hand as she stutters out an excuse but Macaque isn’t having any of it, “mother, let her speak!”
Mei can practically hear her grating her teeth together before releasing Mei’s arm and letting her go. Quickly, Mk grabs the hidden diary from under his shirt before passing it to Mei before LBD can stop him and she runs up to Macaque and passes it to him. Macaque flicks through the pages before mumbling in disbelief “he loved me… I don’t understand why he would kill himself if he loved me?!” Mei turns and stares down LBD before saying “maybe the same person who convinced you that murdering an innocent person was a good idea!”
LBD smiles and is about to say some excuse when Macaque yells in anger “DON’T YOU DARE LIE TO ME MOTHER!” The fake smile on her face drops and she sighs like Macaque’s anger is an inconvenience to her, “that whore was going to disgrace us in front of the entire nobility and how was I to know you would be stupid enough to hang yourself from the staircase!” Macaque growls before starting to storm towards his mother as she laughs manically, “you intend to kill me? Shall I remind you that we are both already dead!”
The kids have run towards Wukong and are clinging to their baba as objects in the room begin to fly around. Mk feels the corner of the spell book stab into his skin and it gives him an idea. He starts to flick through it while Wukong and Mei stare at him in confusion before he finds something that might work.
He holds out his hand towards LBD before starting the chant in the book. At first it had no affect but then she started to cough and hack before a dark smoke began to poor out of her throat. Macaque steps back in shock and watches as his mother bursts into flames and the ashes settle on the ground. He spins around and sees Mk staring at his hand in shock before yelling “WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU MAKE A SPELL LIKE THAT?!” Macaque nervously laughs before mumbling “I dabbled!”
——————————————————————————
Wukong changed out of his wedding dress before quickly getting their stuff and is ready to get the hell out of there but is stopped by Mk and Mei, “we have to help them!” Wukong sighs and glances back at the ghosts stood in the doorway before asking “how exactly do we do that?” Mk starts flicking through the book again and Wukong decides he should probably take that off him once they get home “Bajie and Tripitaka are probably being forced to stay because of Macaque’s unofficial business but if we could get him to leave the house then they’d be free” he excitedly explains while showing Wukong a spell from the book.
It’s titled ‘connecting a spirit to an object’ and Wukong scans over it before asking “you want to take him with us?” Mei and Mk look at each other before nodding so, nervously Wukong glances back again and sees Macaque looking at him guiltily.
“Okay… let’s take him with us.”
Six Eared Shadow
Do you remember the analysis about Mei and Red Son? That was me, and I'm doing this again, but now about Macaque and Sun Wukong
Because what the heck why do they hate each other so much
Tumblr media
Ok, so this... This is such a messy chaotic really chaotic mix of a few headcanons and theories I made up and it SOMEHOW turned into a fanfic that I wrote so long that other people made many similar things in meanwhile and now this sounds not original at all, but I wrote it not to keep it in my deep hidden shelf so here we go
(It's based on what I know from the lmk series. I've started to read JTTW, but I'm still not so far to get to know anything about Macaque, but I won't change anything about this theory from now on)
Let's gather some basic information for the start.
-> Macaque is made with a shadow or even he is a shadow (kinda shadow demon, the demon of shadow). I mean, shadow is not only his power, he literally is made with shadow matter. We know that because he can not only manipulate shadows but also go through walls and turn yourself into a shadow.
Tumblr media
-> I'm not sure if someone made him or he just "poof" out of nowhere just like Sun Wukong, but according to the story he told about how close he and Monkey King used to be, there's no doubt they had some master/student relationship which later turned into almost equal partnership. What is said, Macaque followed Sun Wukong for a long time, learning a lot from him, 'being his shadow'. They grew in power together, fought together, and (as it is said) Macaque started casting as Sun Wukong shadow, which (surprisingly) looks like he did willingly. Just look at the picture - the shadow is big and bright, it’s powerful and smiling, proud of his strength. He doesn’t look like someone forced to be Sun Wukong’s shadow. It shows how much Macaque admired Monkey King, that he wasn't just a friend for him, he was his idol.
Tumblr media
-> We all know Macaque is a shadow demon, he can easily change his appearance, he does not have to look like an evil clone of Monkey King, especially if he hates him now or something, SO even if he used to look up at Sun as his ex-student or ex-partner, and now we know he is NOT, he would prefer to not look so similar any more.
He can choose any other look, but he doesn't. Why? Well, maybe he actually cannot. Maybe this isn't an appearance he has specifically chosen, maybe this is his 'basic' comfy form and any other form would just take too much energy to keep up. And looking at the really tiny probability of two very similar monkeys just "poofing" out of nowhere, I dare to say, Macaque wasn't born (I mean like Sun Wukong or any other demon), but he was specifically created. And here is a question: on someone's purpose or not? Maybe the power of great Monkey King was so strong so the part of it just jumped from him and formed into another similar creature, but let me say it's just weird and I prefer the theory of Sun Wukong being so bored and lonely after his master's (Tripitaka) death, and he created a brother for himself from his own shadow. Just to have someone, anyone.
So Wukong created Macaque and then what? He trained him, he taught him everything he knew, maybe even he shared his powers with him. Some great great bonding time. But as Macaque said, something drew them apart. It is visible that Macaque blamed Monkey King for this, for 'forgetting him'. Before speculation of what happened then between them, let's focus on what Macaque showed us what he wants now.
We have two episodes, both show different sides of him. In season 1, Macaque's main goal is to steal Monkey King's power from Mk, and then to very specifically revenge. He visibly does not want to defeat Sun Wukong, he wants to hurt him as much as possible. Look: when Monkey King showed up, Macaque totally forgot about Mk. And then, when he's so close to defeat him, instead of that he turned to Mk and tried to kill the teenager. Mk is just a tool to hurt Sun Wukong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we can't forget how Macaque constantly pointed out all the weak sides of Sun, he's basically just saying on and on "you're weak, you're weak, you're so weak, I'm so strong, I'm strong, you are so weak". Which really fits the feeling of being forgotten because he was weaker and Monkey King was stronger, better, glorious and famous. Macaque really feels like that, he really tried to make Sun Wukong feel his pain by dominating him.
Tumblr media
On the other hand, we see that Sun constantly striked off him. He said almost nothing to him, just "Aren't you bored of keep being in my shadow? It's time to give back what you've stolen" and that was fricking all. For Monkey King, Macaque is a just shadow, always behind him, something you turn around and leave behind to not see it and to forget, like an unwanted past. An unnecessary problem, that irritatingly keeps returning to him. He does not want to interact to not make even a slight more bond between them, he wants to delete him from his life forever, and omg WHY. At this end of the ep, Sun Wukong did not even mention Macaque. He really doesn't care at all (or extremely tries to not care). His HATE is almost touchable, ouch.
In season 2, Sun Wukong LEFT US ALL ALONE. Macaque showed up again, he played with Mk a bit, and... Left? That's the thing, you see, he doesn't need to hurt or kill Mk. All we see is Macaque talking about his past and then letting Mk experience something the 'hero' in the story should have felt. The guilt. When Mk interpreted his story differently, seeing himself as the warrior, Macaque corrected him. Cause he doesn't care about Mk at all. He heard how Mk told him about what hurt him, and here is a funny point, because if Macaque needs to be understood, listening to Mk and talking with him (such a simple act of empathy, they both needed it then, guh) should have been enough. Mk really felt the 'warrior' character in the story, so he understood what Macaque felt. But surprisingly, that was not what the demon carved.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Macaque chose to make Mk feel like Monkey King at the moment something drew the demons apart. He wanted to force Mk to be sorry, to apologize, to regret his mistakes, cause he failed with forcing Monkey King to feel that. But! Maybe he is not as purely innocent and poorly forlorn. We see the flashback for a half of second before Mk hit him with Staff:
Tumblr media
We see Sun Wukong attacking Macaque who's in his demon (true) form.
Let's repeat this: Macaque felt as if a friend left him in the past. He said a friend did this to have all the "hero's glory" for themselves. We know Sun Wukong could do such a thing, especially before he met Tripitaka, but 1. In my theory Macaque is created after Tripitaka's death and 2. If (as my theory said) Sun created Macaque to not feel so lonely, he would never leave him for such a thing. So Macaque hides something for sure, something he did, something so terrible that made Sun Wukong attack him and not want to know him anymore. How horrendous thing Macaque did that made Sun Wukong choose to be alone again and to forget his dear brother he created by himself?
Back to the great bonding time, repeating speculation of "oh maybe they even share the powers" and comparing it to Macaque wanting to steal Mk's power, my theory here is saying:
Sun Wukong taught Macaque the technique of the same powers as he knew, but Macaque overused it (probably wanting to see how powerful he is, probably showing off and killing so many harmless people) doing terrible terrible things. So Monkey King took all of the powers from him and left him alone, powerless, with the last painful words: "Dont you dare to show in front of my eyes ever again". Of course Macaque was hurt, of course he didn't see why he's the bad guy, because he did not care about people at all. And of course Sun Wukong was hurt too.
Maybe he came back to the village Macaque had destroyed and following a quiet crying he found a little baby with a heart so clear and he put into him all Macaque's powers, making them sleep until the time will be right... But back to the series!
Tumblr media
Yes exactly. Why did he destroy the lantern and leave? Why did he suddenly lose interest in teasing Mk and stop forcing him to feel guilty?
First thing, he saw Mk is ready to fight for his friends seriously. He still cared so much about them, not like Monkey King about Macaque. That was hard to swallow, that was hard to watch for the demon. That was't the thing he wanted to see. And second, the flashback. Maybe the sudden realization that he actually did something bad. Cause Sun Wukong didn’t just leave him, he cast him out. It was hard to admit that he actually deserved this (or maybe much more), it’s much easier to blame others, not yourself. So Macaque felt “that’s enough” and left. Mk brought him to this uncomfortable point of admitting the truth. Which he didn’t want to. Maybe in the following eps, he will see it, but now Macaque just isn’t ready yet. But the last talk with Mk gives me a little hope. He stopped treating him like a tool or toy, he was actually talking with him like with a person, he even warned him about Lady Bone Demon.
Maybe (maybe) one day he'll see that humans aren't just useless creatures he can carelessly kill, maybe Mk will make him care and realize what he's done, but that's just speculation in speculation, he could die before he reaches that point, maybe he is already dead....
And that's it. That is all I wrote on ao3, but in the fanfic I put much more details and I build those characters up much more than here. This is only rough rough short-saying, I'm really sorry if you read it all
Oh and here is a link if you liked this above i'd love if you read the fanfic thank you
Comfort & Realization
A gift for @winterpower98 since it’s her birthday! Below is some shadowpeach hurt/comfort for her Mentorswap AU, enjoy!
Content warning for descriptions of a character having a panic attack.
Wukong wasn’t sure when it started happening. This… truce between him and Macaque.
If he had to try and pinpoint it, it would likely be the first time they stumbled upon each other in Mei’s apartment while the mechanic wasn’t there. Where they were both far too exhausted that instead of fighting, they simply just… hung out around each other. Not much talking. Just simply finding quiet comfort in each other, two people who just felt beat down by life. Two people who simply needed rest and peace.
They had silently agreed that they wouldn’t speak of their meeting after waking up snuggled close to one another. That this was a one-time thing and would never happen again.
Or at least, that was the plan.
But they kept running into each other at Mei’s apartment. And every time, they kept coming up with excuses to put the façade that them hanging around each other was only done begrudgingly. And every time, they’d end up falling asleep on Mei’s couch out of sheer exhaustion for her to inevitably find late at night after a long day at the shop. And every single time, Mei would simply smile at the sight of the two and leave them after laying a blanket over the two of them.
Well and perhaps after taking a photo… or several.
She found them adorable, so sue her.
Regardless, while Wukong would only admit it on the threat of death… he had found himself genuinely enjoying Macaque’s company during those quiet moments of truce. Moments where he didn’t have to put on the mask of still being the cocky, energetic young man everyone saw him as and instead could let it drop. Macaque didn’t ask questions or try to prod, he simply gave Wukong a look of concern and didn’t protest if he sat closer to the monkey demon than necessary.
It was… nice. A lot nicer than he wanted to admit.
But, like seemingly everything in Wukong’s life, it had to change. Quickly, suddenly, and uncomfortably.
And what’s worse is that he couldn’t blame anything aside from things he had been holding down, repressing, since the very beginning. When things came crumbling down. Things he couldn’t ignore anymore.
He just couldn’t.
It had started well enough, Wukong allowing himself a breather after defeating another demon that thought they could take the staff for themselves. But they certainly put up a good fight, even giving him a couple of close calls that could have been bad if Bajie hadn’t screamed out a warning to him at just the right moment. That certainly let his heart thundering in his chest, even after the danger was long gone.
And yet Wukong couldn’t help but smile as his friends were quick to rush him into a crushing hug filled with relief. Bajie especially, despite his claims to the contrary.
“Nice to see that you still love me Bagel.”
“Call me that again and I will suplex your skinny ass.”
Tang, Sandy, and Bai Long could only chuckle at the two as they bicker back and forth, the familiar sounds and routine bringing a surprising amount of comfort to Wukong. Things weren’t quite the same as before, of course. But it was enough to slowly start putting his racing heart at ease and he slowly had started to become comfortable.
Until he saw a flash of red hair in his peripheral vision. A shade of red that he knew anywhere.
And his eyes met with Red’s, who was staring at him in shock from across the plaza.
It felt like time had stopped.
Wukong could faintly hear his friends calling his name and yet it only sounded like muffled echoes. All that his mind could register was the jackhammer beat of his heart and how Red seemed to be weighed down by… Wukong didn’t know what. Guilt? Sadness? Self-loathing? He didn’t know.
All the young man knew right in that moment was that he needed to leave. Now.
And that he did. It was all a blur of panic and fear for him. He might have heard Bajie and Tang call out to him as he had the staff take him away, but all Wukong could hear was his skyrocketing pulse and feel the impending nausea curdled his stomach. He just wanted to get away to somewhere safe where nobody would find him. Where Red wouldn’t find him or be able to even see him.
Wukong stumbled into Mei’s apartment, breathing uneven and tears already brimming his eyes. His chest felt tight, as if still in the vice grip of the demon he fought earlier, and his legs wobbly that it was a minor miracle that he was able to make it to the couch. The young man collapsed on to the sofa and curled into a fetal position, unable to hear anything but his heartbeat.
Unable to see anything except the sight of his former father figure for the first time in months.
Not since he lied to Wukong, stole his powers, tried to kill is mentor and nearly killed him in the worst way possible during the process.
Wukong thought with how long it had been that maybe the sight of Red wouldn’t hurt anymore.
He was wrong. It had hurt even worse than before.
In the dark quiet of Mei’s apartment, Wukong was left to quietly sob and spiral back down to the memories of where everything changed. The shock of having his powers ripped from him by someone he thought he trusted. Nearly being buried alive, something that gave still gave him nightmares to remember. The stab of betrayal. It hurt, it hurt, it hurt.
He stopped completely. Breath, thoughts, and all. There was a hand on his shoulder.
Before Wukong could lash out at any possible threat, he caught sight of familiar black fur and ridged ears. It was Macaque, eyes soft with worry despite the poor attempt of a smirk to hide it.
“Hey… you okay there, monkey wannabe? Did something happen?”
That was the needle to Wukong’s metaphorical balloon of anxiety, stress, and heartbreak.
Quiet whimpers became full-on sobs and Macaque stumbled back as Wukong clung to him, desperate for comfort. Countless questions were running through the demon’s head, wondering what could have possibly left someone like Wukong in such a state. But he left them on the backburner of his mind.
Now was definitely not the time to ask questions.
Instead, he silently held Wukong, stroking his back to offer comfort.
Macaque wasn’t sure how long they were there but eventually, Wukong’s sobs died down and yet he still continued to cling to the other. He was tired and cold; Macaque was comforting and warm. His fur was surprisingly soft and smelled faintly of jasmine.
“You… feel better now?”
“…A little. Thanks Macaque.” Wukong’s voice was scratchy from all his crying, eyes red as well, yet he gave the other a weak smile of gratitude.
He froze. He called him Macaque. Wukong never called him by his actual name. It was always ‘Hot Topic reject’ or just ‘Mac’, never his full name.
Macaque liked how it sounded when Wukong said his name.
Oh. Oh no.
“Uh, no problem. Do you want me to-?” He stopped as he felt Wukong squeeze tighter around his shoulders, burying his face in the crook of the demon’s neck.
“Stay. Please.” He had never heard him sound so small.
“Okay, I’ll stay, just stop with the puppy dog eyes,” Macaque grumbled, ignoring the chuckles which rumbled through Wukong’s chest. He huffed, silently wrapping his tail around the other’s waist in hopes it would go unnoticed.
“Sorry if I got your shoulder soggy Macaque,” Wukong mumbled, exhaustion heavy in his voice as he struggled to keep his eyes open. Thankfully, that kept him from noticing the demon’s cheeks turn red as he came to realize just how much he liked the sound of his name when it came from his supposed nemesis. Enough that Macaque was starting to hope that Wukong would continue to call him by that name after all of… this.
“Don’t worry about it… Wukong.”
“Hm… I like how you say my name.” Macaque’s face was now completely red, right to the tips of his ears.
Oh no!
“Well, if you want… I could just keep calling you that instead of ‘monkey wannabe’. But only if you stop calling me a Hot Topic reject. Do we have a deal?”
Wukong yawned, allowing the demon to see the others tiny fangs and while Macaque would carry it to his grave, he found it extremely adorable.
“Deal. I like calling you… Macaque more anyway.” He let out another yawn. “I’m just gonna, rest my eyes for a bit.”
Wukong was immediately out like a light.
And as Macaque stared at the young man’s face, now much more relaxed in the throes of sleep, he knew he was completely gone. And it had only taken him now to realize it. A part of him was tempted to immediately do something about it, start courting Wukong, but he held himself back.
He had plenty of time. For now, he would just enjoy the moment. And maybe… rest his eyes for a moment too.
Macaque was also immediately out after he closed his eyes.
“this house is a frickin’ nightmare”
so i. decided to write something for the ‘Sitcom’ AU, which is basically just the concept that post-canon, everyone lives in the same house.... its Fun.
Word Count: 2.7k
Read on Ao3
-
"Monkey King, get down from the fridge."
"No."
This exchange is what drew MK's attention to the fact that something was happening in the kitchen.
In MK's opinion, it was far too early for something to be happening in the kitchen.
"Wukong, I swear, if you don't get down from there-"
"What- you gonna stab me? Pigsy, you know full well that method is ineffective."
"What is going on?" MK asked, entering the kitchen and, well, seeing exactly what he had expected; Wukong crouched on top of the fridge, staring down at Pigsy, who was glaring up at him.
Still though. Just because he'd expected to see it didn't explain why it was happening.
"Oh hey, kid." Wukong said, taking notice of him. "Everything's fine, you can go back to your room, breakfast will be ready soon."
"It would be done already if you hadn't burned it." Pigsy said, gesturing to the charred remains of what supposedly had been breakfast. "Seriously, can't you follow simple instructions?? Now we've gotta start all over."
"It's not my fault I'm a visual learner." Wukong said, his tail swinging back and forth.
"It was three steps-"
"What's going on?"
MK barely kept himself from startling at the new voice behind him, turning around to see a very tired looking Red Son.
"Breakfast burned." MK said, catching Red Son up on the situation. Red Son hummed in contemplation, walking into the kitchen, picking up a piece of the unrecognizable charred food, and, ignoring the other's growing horror, he ate it.
"...Tastes fine to me." He said, going so far as to grab and nibble on another piece as he turned and left, presumably heading back to his room. The remaining three watched him go in shocked silence.
"....This house is a frickin' nightmare." Wukong deadpanned. Pigsy nodded in agreement.
"Aptly put. Now get off of the fridge."
"No."
MK decided to go back to bed.
-
It was commonly known, within the household, that somehow, Tang and Wukong continuously managed to get out of doing their fair share of the chores. No one was quite sure how they did it, as the two of them kept coming up with new methods every day.
Today's method was..... interesting, to say the least.
Somehow, someway, they had managed to remove their names from the Chore Roulette Wheel, without leaving any trace that their names had ever even been there. Which was, in fact, rather impressive, considering that the roulette wheel was literally a giant wooden roulette wheel, built by Sandy, and there were no empty spaces were their names used to be, they were just. Gone.
To be honest, MK would've never noticed if Mei hadn't pointed it out.
Now, there was a house-wide search for the two chore-shirkers.
"Found 'em yet?" MK yelled down the stairs into the basement. A few seconds passed, then a unanimous call of "No!" came. MK sighed. If the Spider-gang couldn't find Tang and Wukong down there, then they probably weren't there. (.....Probably. Wukong did have a lot of tricks up his sleeves, and MK didn't put it pass his mentor to use them for something like this.)
That checked off the majority of the house.... which only left-
An enraged scream (courtesy of Mei) from upstairs confirmed what MK had concluded.
They were on the roof.
MK rushed to the stairs, running up them-
Only to pause as he heard a yelp, and a flash of gold fell past the window, followed by a loud thud. MK leaned on the windowsill to look outside, just in time to see Tang fall past it. Wukong, a few branches and grass in his fur from his rough landing, summoned his cloud to catch Tang, before zooming away.
As MK would later find out, in the haste to escape Mei's wrath, Tang had actually pushed Wukong off the roof. Wukong, in return, had unceremoniously dropped Tang on the ground the first chance he got.
Both of their names were back on the roulette wheel by the next morning.
....They still managed to get out of doing their chores though.
-
"Oh, hey Macaque." MK mumbled, tiredly rubbing his eyes, and Macaque, mid-way through stealing a snack out of the fridge, froze like a deer in the headlights.
"Uh.....hey, bud." He said, slowly closing the fridge door, glancing at MK, who was obviously very tired, then looking at the clock on the wall.
2:43 AM. Okay, he could work with this.
"What are you doing up so late?" Macaque asked, leaning casually against the fridge in an attempt to hide his nervousness. If MK had been more awake, he would've noticed and called him out on it, but as it was....
"Just woke up.... wanted to get a snack." MK said, and Macaque quickly opened a nearby cupboard.
"Here, have this." He said, putting a cookie in MK's hands, before grabbing him by the shoulders, turning him around, and gently shoving him back towards his room. "Now go back to bed."
"G'night, Macaque." MK said, nibbling on his cookie.
"Goodnight, MK." Macaque sighed, waiting until he heard MK's bedroom door click closed again before melting back into the shadows.
The next morning, MK thought he had dreamt the whole thing. After all, Macaque had vehemently denied the invitation to live in the house with everyone else, surely if he had changed his mind and started to live with them, someone would've noticed.
....Right?
-
"Monkey King?"
"Yeah?"
"Why do you always sleep on the roof?" Red Son asked, "I mean, you do have a room after all, why don't you use it?"
"I just like watching the stars." Wukong said, reclining on his cloud. Suddenly, Mei and MK also appeared beside Red Son, with their arms crossed, looking unimpressed.
"You told me that beds were uncomfortable." Mei said.
"And you told me that you liked the breeze." MK added. Wukong's tail bristled a little, but he still didn't look over at them.
"Well, I mean, all of those are true." Wukong said, "Figured I would just... switch my answers up from time to time, keep things entertaining you know?"
"That doesn't explain why you slept out there in the pouring rain." Mei said, "In fact, the only time we've seen you sleep inside is when we have blanket fort night."
"...The rain was nice?" Wukong said, sounding uncertain. The trio narrowed their eyes.
"Is there something wrong with your room?" Red Son asked, and Wukong flinched.
"No." He said, finally sitting up and looking at them. "Really, my room's perfectly fine, I don't know where you're getting the idea that something's wrong-"
"You're doing that nervous smile again." MK said, and Wukong slammed a hand over his mouth in an attempt to hide what the trio had already seen.
There was a moment of silence, and in that moment, each member of the traffic light trio came to a shared conclusion.
No matter the cost, they would get into Wukong's room.
Almost as though they had actually planned it, the trio took off towards the staircase, ignoring Wukong's yells for them to stop. Hurriedly, Wukong summoned two clones, then rushed after the trio.
Red on got caught on the stairs, the clone grabbing hold of the edge of his coat and dragging him down. It wouldn't be able to hold him for long of course, his fire could quickly burn the clone away, but it would still manage to slow him down.
Mei was captured in the hallway, the clone pushing off the wall to tackle her, accidentally knocking her right into Yin and Jin's room, pining her to the ground as the twins yelped in shock.
...Which just left MK.
Having trained with the Monkey King, MK found himself easily dodging Wukong's attempts to catch him. Slightly out of breath, he skidded to a stop in front of Wukong's door, turned the knob, and opened it.
"I don't really see what the problem is, the room looks fine to me-" MK said, stepping into the room.
"Kid, wait-" Wukong started to say, but it was too late.
MK tripped, tumbling into the room, dispelling the illusion Wukong had carefully crafted and placed over it.
Wukong's room was a mess, to put things lightly. There was stuff everywhere- books, clothes, antiques, food, you named it, it was probably there. It was to the point where there was no place to sleep, the bed being covered in stuff. Which, well, that explained the whole 'sleeping on the roof' thing, but still.
Wukong nervously shifted from foot to foot in the doorway. Red Son and Mei, who had succeeded in freeing themselves, as well as Yin and Jin, who had gotten curious from all the commotion, stared over Wukong's shoulders, taking in the state of the room.
MK sat there for a moment, looking at the mess (and sure, MK's room was messy too, but this-), before slowly turning around to look at his mentor, a serious expression on his face.
"Wukong." MK said, and Wukong stiffened, his nervous smile growing wider at the sound of MK saying his name instead of his title.
"...Yeah?" Wukong said, chuckling nervously as MK's look darkened.
"...I'm getting Sandy."
"Wait, no no no-"
The rest of the day was spent cleaning up Wukong's room, sorting through the piles upon piles of stuff.
Wukong, in a bout of spite, still slept on the roof anyways.
-
Yin and Jin stared in shock at the scene in front of them.
Everyone in the house knew that Wukong and Tang adamantly avoided doing their share of the chores. (The roof-pushing incident was still fresh in everyone's minds, after all).
So that's why seeing Wukong doing the laundry was very out of place.
"...What are you two staring at?" Wukong asked, snapping the twins out of their shocked reverie.
"It's just....weird to see you doing the laundry, that's all." Yin said, and that-
Well, surprisingly enough, that made Wukong actually pause.
"It is?" He asked, slowly setting the laundry basket down on the ground, subtly nudging it under a nearby table so that it was now out of view.
"Well, I mean, with how you and Mr. Tang utilize every method possible to avoid doing the chores, we never thought we'd actually see you doing one." Jin said.
"...I see." Wukong said, quietly. "Well, in that case. You two saw nothing."
"Wha-"
Not giving them a chance to respond, Wukong flashed a peace sign, then vanished, leaving the twins to sputter in disbelief.
(Later, Macaque returned to the laundry room to pick up the clothes he'd left behind.)
-
Syntax paused as he stared at the sight before him.
"...What is this?" He ased, drawing the attention of the occupants in the living room.
"A braid train!" MK replied, and honestly, that's what it was. MK sat on the floor, braiding Bai He's hair, Bai He braiding Red Son's, who was braiding Mei's hair. Mei pulled one hand out of Spider Queen's hair to give Syntax a little wave before returning to braiding the queen's hair. Spider Queen gently weaved Huntsman's hair into a braid that looked above professional level. Huntsman was twisted at an odd angle in order to put some braids in Sandy's beard. And Sandy carefully created some tiny braids in Wukong's fur."
"I....see." Syntax said, holding up his phone and taking a quick picture before any of the braid train participants could notice.
"Do you wanna join?" MK asked, "You can either braid my hair or get yours braided by Monkey King. Your choice."
Syntax took a moment to think about it.
He ended up braiding MK's hair.
-
There was someone in the shower.
Now, usually, this wouldn't be such a mind-boggling thing, but-
All of the house's occupants stared at the bathroom door in trepidation.
"You sure Wukong didn't just accidentally leave the shower on again?" Princess Iron Fan asked, prompting some indignant sputtering from Wukong, who was sitting on Demon Bull King's shoulder. MK shook his head in the negative.
"No, I'm sure I heard someone moving in there." He said, crossing his arms.
"Why don't you or Monkey King just use your true sight and get this whole mystery over with?" Jin asked.
"Yeah, we've already been waiting for like, 20 minutes." Yin said.
"They're in the shower." MK said, "I'm not just gonna invade their privacy like that, regardless of who they are."
The shower turned off, and everyone turned to stare at the door again, in silence. There was some rustling around, and then the door opened.
Macaque. It was Macaque. Who, upon realizing that literally the entire household was standing in front of him, froze.
And then immediately tried to turn and run.
"Oh no you don't." Wukong said, jumping off of Demon Bull King's shoulder, and outright tackling the other monkey to the ground. "What are you doing here?"
"Uh, I live here?" Macaque said, sitting up and shoving Wukong off of him.
"You turned down the invitation to come and live with us though...." Wukong said, slowly standing back up. ".....How long have you been here?"
"Two weeks."
"Two weeks?!" Everyone went into various states of shock.
"How could we not have noticed you?" MK asked.
"You- you did notice me though." Macaque said, "Like, we had a whole conversation in the kitchen at around 3 AM."
"You think I remember what happens at 3 am?!" MK said, holding his head in his hands, and Red Son comfortingly patted him on the back.
"What happens at 3 AM stays at 3 AM." Red Son said, sounding like he was saying some ancient wisdom despite the actual sentence being utter nonsense. Yin and Jin snapped their fingers as a look of realization appeared on their faces.
"That's why we saw Wukong doing the laundry the other day." Yin said, "It was Macaque in disguise!"
"....Yeah, I figured you'd notice if I didn't do some chores, just to clean up after myself." Macaque sighed, and Pigsy turned to glare at Wukong and Tang.
"See? Even the ex-villain does more chores than you two." He said, and Wukong and Tang purposefully looked away, whistling innocently.
"Wait." Mei said, "If you've been here for two weeks, and we haven't seen you use any of the bedrooms... then where have you been sleeping?"
As it turned out, Macaque had been spending his nights in the storage closet, curled up in the darkest corner of the room with nothing other than a blanket and a small pillow. The others, of course, deemed this as unacceptable, and pretty much near shoved him into one of the leftover bed rooms.
...Which he didn't even end up using that night, as it ended up being a night where everyone ended up falling asleep in the living room, blankets and pillows strewn about everywhere.
The next morning, Macaque wasn't there when the others woke up, and there was a brief moment of panic over the monkey's whereabouts-
And then said monkey walked back into the room, using the shadows to help him carry some trays with breakfast on it.
He paused when he registered that everyone was staring at him.
"....What?" He asked, "I woke up first, that means I had breakfast duty, right?"
"I mean.....yeah." MK said, graciously accepting his plate of food. "But, to be honest. I kinda expected you to burn it like Monkey King did."
"Hey, I did that on purpose. For Red Son." Wukong said, "Cause, y'know. He likes charred food. Apparently."
"You did not do that on purpose and we all know it." Pigsy said, "You were just as unaware of Red Son's dietary habits as the rest of us."
"...I literally just woke up and I'm kinda feeling attacked." Red Son mumbled, sitting up. "Should I feel like I'm being attacked?"
"No, you're fine, we're just calling out Wukong again." Spider Queen whispered to him, and Red Son hummed before rolling back over, clearly intending on getting a few more minutes of rest despite the argument starting to occur in the room. Macaque, for his part, remained standing frozen, with MK standing beside him, nibbling at the food on his plate.
"....Should I be concerned about this?" Macaque asked, staring at the fight taking place. MK shrugged.
"Nah." He said, "This is just the same shit as always."
