Raz is the Hand of Galochio.
At ten years old, Razputin Aquato has created an autonomous construct capable of independent action--capable of actively acting against him--and he does it subconsciously. That's the part that really fucks me up. He conjures the Hand at any time, in any place, in the mental world, in the physical world, when he's distracted, when he is using other psychic powers. Raz can be surrounded by a dozen enemies, psyblasting and levitating and putting up shields and focusing entirely on the fight, and it doesn't matter. His mind has already created the Hand: the second he sees water, it's ready and waiting for him.
And unlike all his other psychic powers, nobody taught him how. This is not baby's first psychic emergence! Raz already knew how to use levitation to double jump and we can see in various flashbacks he could move stuff with his mind, but those are very basic moves! He couldn't float or aim/throw until someone taught him!
But he could create the Hand.
How many trained psychics could do that at all? Maligula can create the water snakes, but she's been doing this for years, she has practice and training and, I cannot stress this enough, she's doing it on purpose.
When Raz grows up, he is going to be the most powerful psychic in the world.

Marona Galochio headcanons
Marona's actual ghost was actually haunting Lucy, and was the one we saw in the the puddle in memory vault. She still watches over her sister and her son's family.
Lucy was always going to be Augustus' godmother, there were never any one candidates. Despite everything that happened, Marona's ghost is very happy where Augustus ended up.
The Galochio family have many members, but Marona was disowned by most of them (excluding Lucy) for marrying an Aqauto. Ironically, Lucy was the favored daughter of the family.
Lucy tired to make amends between her family and Marona for years but neither side would budge.
Once Lucy became Maligula, she believed Marona's husband was forcing him to join the protests. In reality, Marona was not only an enthusiastic member of the opposition, she was the leader. Lazarus tried to get her to stay behind, but she wouldn't hear a word of it.
Marona, as a ghost, still loves Lucy and forgives her for everything. Still fucking hates Ford, though. Never cared for her first husband Gelsin Mux, either.

mr tim schafer had maligula planned out basically once he decided to make a sequel for real (as evidenced by the documentary)
but i wonder when he decided specifically she was raz's aunt
bc i think one of the strongest things abt maligula/lucrecia as a character is how she serves to double down on the most compelling emotional core of the original game re: familial ties and turbulence regarding psychic powers as metaphor for the generations both not understanding each other and being more alike than they first appear
like i think maligula could have worked without being related to the aquatos but it wouldve been a weaker story, in my humble imo, even if everything else stayed relatively the same
i love the aquatos/galochio/mux family tree so much they're so interesting

Psi-Powers and their Associated Mental States
I’ve been thinking about the different psi-powers, and what mindsets or emotional states they might be drawn from.
Like, we know know psi-blast is drawn from feelings of aggression. And I don’t know if it’s intentional, but the fact that the enemies psi-blast works the best against are Censors and, to a lesser extent, Regrets, makes a lot of sense. After all, aggression can often override our more normal inhibitions.
And idk if it’s official canon, but it’s commonly accepted that levitation draws from (appropriately) levity, or other positive emotions, and this makes sense given characters such as Milla. (it also invites a lot of interesting thoughts about Morris, for whom levitation is not an occasional tool, but a fundamental part of his daily life)
And what about pyrokinesis? The fact that Doubts are particularly vulnerable to fire is really interesting. Does this suggest that pyrokinesis draws from feelings of determination or self-assuredness? Given what we know about the two characters most associated with this power, that doesn’t seem like much of a stretch. (also another bit of possibly-intentional brilliance: Lili doesn’t use pyrokinesis for most of the duration of 2, until the very end when Gristol’s plan is revealed and she has a clear goal again)
Hydrokinesis is trickier because we don’t really deal with it as a gameplay power, but it’s connection to Raz’s subconscious fear of the “curse” manifested through the Hand of Galochio, as well as to Maligula, suggests that it has its roots in a very deep, primal part of the mind. Again, appropriate, given water’s frequent cultural association with the “primal depths.”
IDK, I’m just speculating, and this got a little more long-winded than I meant. I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on what I wrote above, or what emotions/mindsets might be associated with other powers.

PSN2: How to write a mature narrative
In this age of progressive content and boundary-pushing, there is still something missing. Most of the boundary-pushing media is made for children and the media trying to be adult tends to sadly fall into the South Park trap of excess.
Enter Psychonauts 2 and I’d say one of the most mature story arcs I have ever seen depicted. Especially as this story arc has no right answer or an easy solution.
The Maligula story from start to finish has this feeling of regret and every character (minus poor Helmut) messed up in it.
To start with Lucrecia opened her mind and destroyed most of the mechanisms protecting it. That isn't bad, it was a time of experimentation. But when her country was invaded and her husband was killed? She left without rebuilding her mental defences. Yet the most important part of this is that she left at all, considering she must have known Grulovia was a shithole. Lucrecia could have taken her sister and her spouse from the country and emigrated to America.
She didn't, though. Because as flawed as it was, Grulovia was her home. Her family had lived there for generations, they had a history there. So she rushed back home to defend it. Being one of the foremost experts in her field, she became a great asset in the war. Which eventually netted her a high political position, because dystopias are nothing if not pragmatic. Morally speaking, this was not a good choice. Lucrecia was supporting a tyranny as its punishing arm. Yet, this is a choice people often make in situations like this. Grulovia was invaded once, it could be invaded again. People who have faced a defensive war often feel the need to be on their toes, even generations later.
Lucrecia ending up murdering her sister adds to the moral greyness. She did not want to do it, it was an accident. But by that point, her choices had let her into a mental state that was just waiting to explode. Maligula choosing to just drown the whole country makes a twisted amount of sense. The Gzar's orders led to the death of her sister, the country was not getting better.
So screw everyone equally, they deserve to drown.
This alone is a very mature storyline, as it showcases how a person can end up the way Lucrecia did. Many have ended up becoming monsters in similar situations in real life. Minus the psychic powers of course.
Then we come to the fallout of Maligula and how it hurt her friends. How Ford, in a desperate attempt to 'fix' things, ended up creating a massive lie and something that would affect Lucrecia's family generations later. The Hand of Galochio serves as a great stand-in for generational trauma.
He ended up hurting Helmut too since he left the poor guy's brain chilling in the Astralade without even a note stating it was Helmut's brain.
The narrative lets Ford's actions stand for themselves. Was he in the right? Was there another way? The game does not say, because to offer a solution would undermine the story's point. Sometimes, people do awful things with good intentions. Sometimes, there is no right choice but a bunch of bad ones and you must choose one.
Sometimes, people cannot recover from such trauma. Compton was already a nervous wreck, seeing his friend become a monster was the last straw for him. Bob lost his husband and was already self-medicating with alcohol. Cassie could not figure out the role she should play. Ford destroyed his mind from the shame. Otto was the only one who kept on going, I guess he had better coping mechanisms than his friends.
On top of all of this, the person who ended up rekindling the conflict? A spoiled rotten rich boy who could not accept even a little loss of status.
The maturity of this storyline shows up in all its aspects. The choices the characters make and why they make them are sadly very realistic. The fact that the team split up and could not cope is sad but it happens. The complete lack of any 'golden ending' or an easy way out for the characters shows how intentional this was.
This is how to do a mature narrative right.

Hey @the-family-fortune, I had the pleasure of being your Secret Santa this year! I wrote you a fic about Augustus and Lucy talking things out, alongside some discussion of what it means to be a Galochio. I really enjoyed writing this, and I sincerely hope you enjoy reading it.

If you don't mind me asking, in the riptide au, do raz's water arms act of their own accord?
they’re kinda like an extension of himself!
he’s actively using his hyrdrokinesis while using them, but it’s kinda like a subconscious thing he doesn’t need to think about. it comes naturally to him like breathing.
kind of like having an extra set of (very very flexible) arms. (basically he has more control over the hand of galochio)
(extra note: while maligula had her water serpents, raz instead has his water arms)

Just finished Psychonauts 2, and one of the first songs that hit me was "Poor Unfortunate Souls" for Maligula. "Birthday Suit" by Cosmo Sheldrake has great chaotic vibes that I can't describe well, but once you hear it, it fits great. "Get Your Wish" by Peter Robinson describes someone trying to find themselves. Both of the last two, if not all, have some kind of water symbolism LOL.
OMG such good ones here...... Get Your Wish with its lines abt water...... I am a sucker for songs about water being associated with Psychonauts bc I'm just so fascinated by the narrative concept of the hand of Galochio I'm glad other people are too with these song recommends

🗡❤️🩹🥖 for Lucy
For this Headcanon Ask Meme
----------------
Lucrecia Mux
🗡- Badass headcanon
Being a talented Hydrokinetic that she is, she usually uses water to do all the heavy lifting and little tricks. As a Galacho, I do not believe she would have done the heavy exercise and stretching that the Acrobatic Circus Performers do. Nonetheless I have a headcanon that since Marona fell in love with Lazarus, she got to learn a bit of the Acrobatics they did before she left Grulovia.
When her talent with water is blocked, she may not remember Matona but she remembers the Aquato Stretches and improves her own physique. Anything that she couldn’t do that she would think she could, is just brushed off as part of difficulties of having survived Maligula. She gains those sick Aquato muscles has the creativity to have new performances for her and Augustus to perform before Donatella arrived.
Once she remembers, she uses water once more to do the heavy lifting again since she has aged. Still, she can do more physical activity than what normal old ladies can’t do because of unexercised old people bones. Since she has regained a bit of lucidity, she can give a bit of advice to Augustus if he wants to do some water tricks during their performances.
❤️‍🩹- Angsty headcanon
Twins as they are, Lucy and Marona are very close siblings. They are often each others closest confidante within the Galochio family and tend to support each others decisions, sticking with each other despite what others might think.
Of course, they have their own individuality, and have their own loves and lives they head towards. With all that love and support given to each other, it is very rare that they would strongly go against each other’s decisions without understanding each other.
So when she came back to Grulovia and stopped the war, Marona could not understand why Lucy stayed with the Gzar. Lucy tried to speak about her reasons but ended up in an argument.
It was unfortunate that this was the last time they talked to each other...
🥖- Food headcanon
To me, she has more baking vibes than cooking, although as an Aquato she’d spend more time with the latter since that would better provide nutrients for a family that does a lot of physical workout.
She love spicy hot meals more than anything but has a bit of a sweet tooth when it comes to deserts. Also she doesn’t get brainfreeze so she can eat all the coldest deserts she want!!

What do you think the name of Dion's mental world would be
Well, in the first game we had very generic names that REALLY described the world. In the second game, we had a LOT of alliteration.
Going on alliteration- I'd think it'd be called something like Dion's Deluge, or Aquato Aerial Aperire.
Here are the two ideas: 1. Dion's Deluge - This is dealing with the fact that Dion's mind is flooded with new information that begins to overwhelm him. Maligula is Nona. Nona is not Marona. MOST of the family's legacy is actually being powerful psychics. Galochio was the maiden name of both Marona and Lucrecia. It's a lot for him to deal with and he feels the whole world has turned upside down and gravity is pulling him AWAY from the things he knew and loved.
2. Aquato Aerial Aperire - This is dealing with the fact that Dion is trying to close himself off from learning these new psychic stuff and relating it to his family. Sure, Gisu can correct what Queepie has lied to him about, but that doesn't mean that his family HAS to be psychics. "It's just a phase," "our family's worst secret," and "psychics CURSED us," ring in Dion's head. The goal of this mind would be to simply... just help him work things out and get enablers away from a Dion-esque boss (similar to Cassie's mind, I suppose). Aperire means "to open," and you have to open Dion's mind to the possibility that Psychics are NOT all bad.

Guys we’re inching ever closer to the release of the Motherlobe Edition AND the Psy2 artbook and I cannot even BEGIN to articulate how excited I am to see more concept art and read about the making of Maligula.
And make no mistake about it, it’s a year later and I am STILL holding out for the potential for there to be Galochio content in this book. My biggest dream is that when designing sisters, they made a whole family to really nail the vibe they were going for.
I just wanna see my horrible old man.

i would love to see whole dinamic of marona and lucy more, of one being leader of protestors and another military general
like, i want to see it at least in fics because it's all sooo interesting
I'd certainly be really interested in if someone went and explored Marona's side of things as a protestor, the people's side of the protests must've faced a lot of hardship beforehand and seen people close to Marona and the Mux/Galochio/Aquatos affected by the disaster afterwards
I always interpret Marona as being the protest leader, but on the other hand Maligula does say that Marona wasn't supposed to be there during the end boss fight, so maaaybe she was just Part of the protest and not a leader? but eh, I think Lucy & Marona butting heads like this does imply Marona's importance in the story would justify her being in a leadership position, so that all was a moot point but one i thought was interesting
