"what have you done today"
Well I wanted to train my linework (I'm not an artist so idk why)
So I put on d20 while I do lines
The they talked about the into the woods play
And I was like "I've only seen the movie maybe I should watch the play"
So I went on YouTube
And saw a recommended video of Kate and Anthony
So I watched it
Then saw "pride and prejudice but everything is explained by John Mulaney"
So I watched it
Then I wondered if John Mulaney was problematic or if I was mixing him with another highly memeable brown hair comedian
I went to look for the info, didn't see a "Controversy" section on Wikipedia, thought it was a great start. Went to political view and just died laughing cause I learnt that Joe Biden's wife is named Jill. And a married couple named Joe and Jill is hilarious
So I went to look John Mulaney problematic but when typing it "John Mulaney Porstate exam" was a suggested search
That I search and ofc it's a stand up thing
So I watched it
It was a bit funny I closed the page
Look if he was problematic (he did a show with a renown transphobe apparently)
And I started closing tabs
Found my pride and prejudice video again
Finished it, it was very funny
Saw the YouTube search bar "into"
Found the original cast play absolutely immediately
STEPHEN SONDHEIM? The d20 character?
Started looking what play this man wrote
Jesus he made a lot
I wonder how many got a glee version
Quickly gave up that search by getting lost in the west side story Wikipedia page
Shakespeare was married to Anne Hathaway which is very funny
Our Anne Hathaway was my age when she played in the devil wears prada
Thought about the fact that both Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep were in into the wood and the devil wears prada
I wondered how many movies they did together, 3, those two plus the return of Mary Poppins
Other actors/actress she did 3 movies with (Emily Blunt) : Amy Adams, John Krasinki, Jason Segel
The actors/actress Meryl streep worked the more with: Mamie Gummer, Kevin Kline, Margo Martindale, John Rothman and Stanley Tucci
Oooh Mamie is her daughter
Nepotisme comes from the word "nipote" which is Italian for Nephew
Just learnt the concept of Clientélisme, don't know if there's an English word
Closed tabs
Omg Saturday Night Fever and Pulp fiction are not the same movie
It's been an hour and half and my dad asked what I did. Well. Nothing and everything.

Austen's Pride and Diary of A Madman.
Two Reviews of Two Great Shows.
By Robert M Massimi.
In a one night performance of this wonderful rendition of "Jane Austen" called "Austen's Pride" at the beautiful Carnegie Hall, it was filled with great stars both on stage and in the audience. The story for the most part remained the same, however, set to an orchestral backdrop, the actors sang and acted with script in hand. Directed magnificently by Igor Goldin, the story-line and actors, for the most part, moved graciously about the stage. The first act at one and a half hours was a tad to long, but its rapid fire second act at fifty minutes more than made up for it.
Two actors stood out tonight... Mamie Parris (Jane Austen) and Carson Elrod (Mr. Collins and Mr. Gardiner). The two can flat out act. Ms. Parris singing voice is something to witness! She is one of the best actors that I have seen in a long time! Her movements, the "business" that she give is outstanding!
While the cast is steep, Olivia Hernandez, Beth Leavel, Etai Benson, Delphi Borich and Michele Ragusa are all incredible actors and make this a musical to be seen.
Pleasurable too are the costumes that Becky Flaherty provided to us. Capturing the period piece, Flaherty's costumes were as elegant as they were insightful. In this period piece, we never left the time period that Flaherty provided us in dress.
In the choice of music Matt Perri too brings us back in time. The charming forceful vocalists belted out these incredible songs with gusto, and leaving the audience in rapture all evening.
I am not sure if this musical will come to Broadway, I think this show works better at the Park Avenue Armory, however. The big stage, the big audience area makes it a natural fit. The Armory fits this shows personality.
in capturing the spirit of "Jane Austen", "Austen's Pride" is sure to resurface somewhere, and it should. It is simply to good a show not to! I only hope that they bring back the cast, or most of it anyway because this is a classy hit!
....................................................................................................................
Diary of A Madman at The Russian Arts Theater and Studio.
At Pushkin Hall on the Upper West Side you will find an off off Broadway play that is just delightful! Gogol, who wrote "Diary of A Madman" was put forth on stage by The Russian Arts Theater and Studio.
Under the direction of Alekseyn Burago, this play captures the spirit of the book (which I also enjoyed immensely). Burago is particularly deft with showing us how the madman starts to spiral out of control. He shows us glimpses of the madman at first and then bringing his madness full force by the end of the show.
What better way to see this show in a warm, small theater that let's us sit in on this man who is running about, giving us insights into his crazy mind. The staging of this play too is warm, economical, and creative. This is what off off Broadway used to be! A person in the 80's and 90's could often find a hidden gem like this; not so much anymore.
Without a program I am at odds to tell you who from whom, but I will tell you the lead actor- the madman, turns in a performance for the ages! He is animated, deep and lite hearted all at the same time. The supporting cast too are excellent. As dogs, marionettes and various other roles, the support keeps us laughing, holding our breath and admiring the vast talents of these actors.
At two hour almost, it would have been better structured for an intermission. The theater was unbearably hot at certain points and it made it difficult to concentrate at times. An intermission would have given the audience a chance to really focus on just how insane this man became.
I look forward to visiting this theater in the future and get a chance to see some of the other great Russian writers of the past. Small, but cozy, this theater and theater company does it first rate!

Natalie Merchant.
Natalie Merchant was born in Jamestown, N.Y to Italian parents (real name Mercante before it was anglicized). When she was a child, her mother listened to music and encouraged her and her siblings to study music. As the years went on, she went with her mother to both classical and rock concerts. Her mother later married a jazz musician and as a result, that was the music she became to love the best.RMM

It’s my third day of kindergarten at William Frantz. The first day, I thought I was in a parade. These four big men walked with me. Mama said they’re US Marshals. Here in New Orleans, we have a Grand Marshal leading Mardi Gras parades. People throw things and make lots of noise, just like they did for me.NG

Can you speak Happy mother’s DAY in Chinese?
There are 5671 languages in the world, but mother’s pronunciation is almost the same. Maybe the simplest voice can express the most sincere feelings. If you don’t believe me, see:
English: Mom Japanese: お母 Danish: Mor German: Mama Russian: мама French: maman ! Estonian: ema ma Bulgarian: мама Polish: mamo Danish: Mor Filipino: Mom Finnish: äiti minä Irish: amo Dutch: Mam Czech: mami Croatian: mami Latvian: Mom Lithuanian: mama Romanian: mama Norwegian: mamma Portuguese: mãe Swedish: mamma Serbian: Мама ! Slavinian: mama Slovak Text: mami , Turkish: annem Ukrainian: мама Spanish: mamá Greek: μαμά ! Italian: mamma Vietnamese: Mom Hungarian: anya, Indonesian: Mom…
Happy Mother’s Day, we learn how to Say it
in Chinese:
母亲节快乐mǔ qīn jié kuài lè
Use Up/Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease volume.
From this sentence pattern, an expression to celebrate the festival can be extracted: {holiday name} 快乐.
E.g:
父亲节快乐fù qīn jié kuài lè (happy Father’s day)
Use Up/Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease volume.
新年快乐xīn nián kuài lè(happy New Year)
Use Up/Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease volume.
圣诞节快乐shèng dàn kuài lè(happy Christmas)
Use Up/Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease volume.
It should be noted here that the word order of Chinese and English is different (our course will focus on the preposition of attribute in Chinese, and the phenomenon of postposition of long attribute in English will hardly occur.)
Mother’s Day Origin:
The earliest known Mother’s Day originated in ancient Greece. On this day, the ancient Greeks paid tribute to Hera, the mother of the Greek gods. Then in the mid-17th century, the festival spread to England. On this day, young people who are away from home will return home and give their mother some small gifts.
Mother’s Day in the United States was initiated by Anna Jarvis (1864–1948), who was never married and stayed by her mother’s side. Anna Jarvis’ mother, a kind-hearted and sympathetic mother, proposed that a memorial day should be established to honor the mothers who made sacrifices in obscurity, but she died before this wish was fulfilled. Her daughter, Anna Jarvis, started the campaign in 1907 to apply to make Mother’s Day a statutory holiday. The festival officially began on May 10, 1908 in West Virginia and Pennsylvania in the United States. In 1913, the U.S. Congress decided to make the second Sunday in May every year as the statutory Mother’s Day, and stipulated that every family should hang the national flag on this day to show respect for mothers. And Anna Jarvis’ mother’s favorite carnation became the symbol of Mother’s Day in the United States.
In 1876, America was still mourning the dead of the Civil War. Anna Jarvis, who taught a Memorial Day lesson in the Origins of Mother’s Day Worship, told stories of heroes who died in battle, and said in her prayer, “I hope that somewhere, sometime, Someone created a Mother’s Day to honor and honor mothers in America and around the world.”
Mrs Chavez had served her chapel for more than 25 years, and when she passed away at the age of 72, her daughter Anna, 41, was determined to create a Mother’s Day to fulfill a wish her mother had prayed for many years ago. Anna wrote letters to many famous people, asking them to support the establishment of Mother’s Day to promote filial piety. The initial response was lukewarm, but she was not discouraged and continued to appeal to all walks of life. On May 12, 1907, the Andrew Methodist Church responded. Anna’s invitation to hold a liturgy for the mothers. The following year, the ceremony was held in Philadelphia, and the response was overwhelming, and it finally won the support of the Governor of Victoria, and in 1910, the establishment of Mother’s Day in the state was announced. In 1911, the celebration of Mother’s Day had become very widespread, sweeping not only every state in the United States of America, but also Canada, Mexico and some countries in South America began to celebrate the holiday.
In Chinese, Happy Mother’s Day, and the following expressions can be said to your mother on Mother’s Day:
Mom, I love you
妈妈,我爱你mā ma,wǒ ài nǐ
It is rare to see Chinese people use expressions like I love you directly to their loved ones, especially parents. The most common question asked by hospice doctors in the hospital is whether to consider saying to dying parents: I love you, and the answer from Chinese children is almost always no. Many people in English-speaking countries don’t understand why. Perhaps in the hearts of Chinese people, the deepest feelings are always hidden deep in the heart, and tacit understanding is a common phenomenon.
Mom, you’ve worked hard
妈妈,您辛苦了,mā ma,nín xīn kǔ le
This is the most common usage. Usually, children say this sentence when they give carnations to their mothers to express their gratitude to their parents for raising them. Usually, children who can say this sentence have experienced their parents when they have children. It’s not easy, and I want to take the initiative to give back the grace of parenting. Therefore, this sentence is also the most frequently used by Chinese people on Mother’s Day.
Happy holidays mom, stay healthy
节日快乐,妈妈,身体健康 jié rì kuài lè,mā ma,shēn tǐ jiàn kāng
This kind of expression is similar to saying that you have worked hard. It is also a roundabout expression of I love you, but because of the Chinese people’s implicit customs, such expressions are also very common.

[TW: Disscusions of racism, racist imagery]
I didn't know I was biracial until I was sixteen.
I knew my parents were of different races but I didn’t know there was a name for what I was. I knew the word mestizo and the caste system from the colonial era but I didn’t know those strange, ancient terms could apply to me. Back when I watched Jessie on the Disney Channel I pictured Luke’s biological mom as a black woman despite now knowing that he was half black in real life, I just thought that parents had to be different shades in order to have a baby.
My dad, a white man, always raised me with the idea that I was a Italian because his grandparents immigrated from there and my mom, being the quiet and shut in woman that she is (no offense mami I love you) would never talk about her side of the family and that only become more prominent when my maternal grandfather (an indigenous man from Paraguay) died and she broke off contact with her brothers. It wasn’t until I directly confronted her about it that she opened up, and I was able to place more pieces of the puzzle that I was, ethnicity wise.
To be clear, I’m white passing and disconnected from my indigenous side and people who look at me on the street don’t treat me differently because of my physical characteristics. Yet I’ve felt very clearly the effects of racism on my life: I’ve had brown friends who have been racially profiled and suffered race-based bullying in school. And whenever I was a witness of those things I couldn’t help but think of my mother. Because the things they were antagonized for, were characteristics that my mom and my grandfather had. So I grew up with the notion that sharing physical characteristics with them was a bad thing.
And I would have killed to see someone in my shoes growing up. Someone who not only looks like me but that I have the same experience as me, someone who enjoys both sides of their family, someone with diverse looking siblings whose other people doubt that they are actually siblings.
And I eventually got it: Elena Alvarez from ODAAT and Pepa Madrigal from Encanto come to mind, people from diverse families who happen to look white, that was all I ever wanted. But for every well written multiracial character there’s a bunch of characters who just don’t land.
My first introduction to Damian Wayne Al Ghul was the Bad Blood movie, and I didn’t had any initial thoughts about him besides “Cool, Robin has a sword” and I don’t remember when I found out he was multiracial but I do remember how seen I felt when I saw Talia drawn as a brown woman for the first time. Even though my mom is brown Latina and Talia is Chinese Arab and those aren’t interchangeable, it did feel good to see my mom’s skin colour in a character who, in her inception, was meant to be the most beautiful woman in the world.
And I’ve projected my insecurities of growing up with my indigenous heritage being denied into Damian using his, Arab, Chinese and Jewish heritage (those last two both usually ignored by Canon and Fanon) as a vector to talk about my own experiences while also listening to experiences of other biracial POC who aren’t white passing. I do this because I’m of the opinion that Damian shouldn’t have that many eurocentric features, (beside his iconic green eyes), because while I‘m personally starved for white passing  characters of multiracial families in media, I also recognize that I’m not the first in line in the good representation repartition.
I’m an advocate for Damian having all aspects of his heritage recognized, because I know what it’s like to feel like a piece of your identity is missing and I also know what it's like to never see yourself in the stories you love.
There’s so many beautiful complex mixed race characters in the DC canon: Cassandra Cain, Connor Hawke, Wallace West II, Emiko Queen, etc. And if DC really wanted to, it could craft such great and diverse stories for them. But it doesn’t seem to want to do that. I’m not saying that what we've been getting in the last few years is bad, look at the recently released “DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration” for honestly endearing stories that includes some of the characters I’ve mentioned previously. But that book was the exception to the norm and… what is the norm exactly?
Let’s stay focused on Damian, he’s usually portrayed as light-skinned and shares plenty of characteristics with Bruce, this is used to really drive the point home that he's the “blood son”. But what’s weird about that it’s that the narrative usually dresses him down for thinking he’s special just because he and Bruce are actually related. So why reinforce the idea that he’s actually the Son of Batman while simultaneously shaming him for it?
And let’s keep going. Because this isn’t only a contrivance of the story, it also actively makes it less interesting.  Wouldn’t it be more engaging if he physically shared more characteristics with Talia and that’s his obsession with being the biological son of Batman not only came from insecurity for being raised in a death cult but also because he felt he doesn’t actually look like him?
And it is also strange to me that the narrative constantly acknowledges that Damian and Bruce are very similar but also ignores the implications of that fact, because that opens a new can of worms: Is Damian canonically white passing? If so, shouldn’t we acknowledge that? Because it’s not enough to say “Oh yeah this character it’s just white passing” you have to show how that affects them: Do they feel the need to “prove” they're a POC? How are his relationships with other non white passing characters of colour? These are things a good writer would consider when writing this kind of character.
But no one wants to think about that stuff, because it involves…thinking and here’s a little dirty secret that all writers have: we’re lazy as shit. We don’t want to think about the implications of what we write, we just do what we think would be cool and rarely give it a second thought.
Now that we’ve established one of the symptoms of DC’s treatment of one of it’s more popular multiracial characters it’s attributed to laziness, let’s get on to the more uncomfortable subject matter: Direct harm created by the narratives that the comics represent.
We should talk about how Damian gets constantly put into situations where he has to "pick a side" regarding his parents and how when he shows to be connected to the culture of his parent of colour it's usually to convey to the audience that he's becoming evil. (See also: The beginning of his Teen Titans arc that it starts with him remembering his mother's Ox soup and it concludes with him completely falling off the wagon and violating criminals’ civil liberties)
Is the fact that one of DC’s most prominent multiracial character gets the same arc of “choosing a side” over and over again just a coincidence? Or there's something more insidious we’re not catching? I'll admit I don’t have a clear answer for that, so this particular subject I’ll let you decide for yourself.
However, if someone reads all of Damian’s appearance and concludes that DC has a racism problem, that’s the fault of DC. People can do bad fatih reading of their work? Sure, but unless DC can fully explain what they meant with their choices, the conclusions we draw from their work are their responsibility.
There is one last thing I want to bring up before the conclusion, and that is the active racism at play in the DC writing department. You see, until now I’ve just attributed the problems of DC’s ignorance on the racial part as accidental mishaps, something they can apologize for and try to correct in the future but the truth is that there’s no correcting this:
Tumblr media
(source: Teen Titans (2018) Annual #1)
There’s no correcting the retcon of Talia killing rapists into being a rapist herself, there’s no correcting the fetizhization of Dick’s Romani heritage, there’s no fixing the “tiger mom” stereotype of Shado, Cheshire and Lady Shiva.
Because the problem goes beyond the writers and the artists, the problem is DC. They are the disease, all the things I’ve mentioned above are just symptoms.
And there is no easy cure for this. The editorial is rotten from the inside out but the fans are also to blame, we see Tom Taylor write a shallow depiction of bisexuality and we go hog wild with it while ignoring how he inserted his own zionist views into one of the most popular comics of the decade.
So how do we start fixing this? We've talked about how lazy some people are, and unfortunately that means that we have to do the hard thing and not be lazy ourselves. We need to start calling out the creators and the high executives. We need to make it a problem worth dealing with. In the same way that people managed to get Connor Hawke un-whitewashed thanks to fans backlash, we can make DC acknowledge it’s diverse fanbase and to make their wrongs, right.
Thank you for reading

the first promise he ever made (mouthpiece x velma)
a/n: i definitely need to dive into other couples but velma has always been such an attractive character to me that i love thinking about her and how she would act in all sorts of situations. as requested by @findaway-anastasia, this is how i thought mouthpiece and velma’s first date would go! it’s so funny that when i posted my first ever piece of writing, i thought i would just post that and be done with it, but once you start writing, the ideas keep coming and it feels like you can’t stop. the best part about writing about the same people in one timeline is that there are little details of mouthpiece and velma’s relationship that i like to link together between each of my stories. i wonder if anyone who has read more than one of my stories spots them too? anyway, apologies for the ramble, i hope this piece brightens your day a little!
word count: 2286
-----------------
‘Oh, c’mon Vel, it’s been so long since you went on a date. Please, just this once! I promise ya, if ya don’t like him, ya ain’t ever gotta see him afta tonight. Hand to heart.’ Mamie pleaded with her best friend.
‘Ugh, fine, but Mamie! Ya better be right that he’s funny. The last date I went on I nearly cried because of how borin’ that guy was. I ain’t ever sitting through somethin’ like that again.’ Velma threatened jokingly, with just an edge of sharpness to show that she wasn’t really kidding. It was so frustrating to waste a perfectly good night on some guy that wanted nothing more than to get into her pants. But ever since Mamie started dating Diesel, a long-standing Jet member, she’d been wheedling a yes out of Velma to get her to go on a date with one of the single Jets. Velma could only reject her best friend’s pleas for so long, especially after this new boy called Mouthpiece came into the scene. Mamie seemed to have gotten it into her head that he would be perfect for her.
As Mamie fussed with Velma’s hair in preparation for her date, they finally settled on wavy tresses with delicately done braids on both sides of her head. The way Mamie spoke about Mouthpiece had Velma’s curiosity piqued. Thanks to Mamie’s incredible detective skills, she’d fed Velma with an arsenal of background information about the boy, especially in relation to the other Jets. According to Mamie, Mouthpiece was the same age as Velma, and went to the school in the poorest part of the West Side. He was their designated messenger, though he was shaping up to be a pretty poor one.
‘Diesel’s always complainin’ that Mouthpiece ain’t ever shut his mouth and then all the important information gets lost with his blabbering.’ Mamie giggled as she gently ran her fingers through Velma’s hair.
Velma only smiled thoughtfully in response. Huh, a talkative gang member. That was pretty rare. Most of the gang members she knew were the strong, silent type. She knew Ice and Diesel certainly were.
The sound of the doorbell interrupted their gossip session. Velma smoothed her dress and proceeded to the door, opening it to reveal a waiting Diesel and Mouthpiece.
‘Have fun, you two!’ Mamie cheerily exclaimed as she linked her arm through her boyfriend’s, while Diesel happily pecked her cheek. As the two lovebirds left, Velma turned to notice Mouthpiece staring at her with a slightly dazed expression.
‘Mouthpiece? You’re staring.’
Immediately, Mouthpiece regained his senses, a slight tint of pink dusting his cheeks.
‘Oh.’ He quickly replied, too afraid to say anything else that would betray his embarrassment.
Most girls probably would have been visibly confused by his strange behavior, or at least thrown him a teasing remark. What astonished him was that Velma had simply shrugged it off and given him a small smile, leading him out of her apartment building.
As he walked beside her, he couldn’t help but sneak a couple glances at her out of the corner of his eye. He was sure he’d never seen someone so beautiful in all his life. Her brown hair framed her symmetrical face perfectly, and those blue eyes of hers. They looked so gentle yet piercing. It almost felt like he was looking at a doll.
‘So, Mouthpiece, where’re we going?’ Velma finally asked, turning to give him her full attention.
The second those blue eyes came into full view, Mouthpiece felt like his breath had escaped him all over again. It took all his strength to muster his wits enough to formulate a reply.
‘I thought we could go to this diner. It ain’t fancy, but the food’s really good.’ Mouthpiece suggested tentatively, hoping she would like his idea. He’d known the chef for quite a while now, and could get the cheapest prices for the largest portions. Frankly speaking, he didn’t know if he could afford much more than that. It had seemed like a solid idea when he first ran it through with Tiger, but looking at this high-class girl who lived in her fancy apartment building, he wasn’t so sure anymore.
A wave of relief washed over him as she offered him another small smile, nodding her head.
‘That sounds lovely. Lead the way.’
As they made their way to the diner, Mouthpiece did what he did best in uncomfortable situations — talk. But what would be the best thing to say to this wonderful specimen of a girl walking beside him? He wanted to say something clever, something insightful. Something to make her think that he was more than just a street rat.
Instead, what came out was, ‘Ya think we ever see the same bird twice?’
Velma couldn’t help the uproarious laughter that burst out. She couldn’t believe her ears, but in the best way possible. No one had ever asked her such a genuine and arbitrary question before. Instinctively, she let her stiff back loosen and her shoulders slacken. This was going to be a fun night.
If he had thought her smile was gorgeous, her laugh had to be ten times prettier. No, a hundred times more. Her smile was pretty, without a doubt. But it was guarded; it felt like a part of her porcelain personality. That laugh, however, was unbridled and liberated. He felt how sincere that chuckle was, how amused she truly had been. That melodious sound was music to his ears, and what amazed him more was that she was laughing at something he said. He had made her laugh! Even though his plan to be learned had backfired massively. It astounded him — his ridiculous self had actually started to win her over.
Nevertheless, encouraged by her delighted reaction, they struck up an easy conversation, the two of them bonding over the simplest of things like a shared love for dances, and the way the pigeons in the West Side creeped them out. With every passing minute, Mouthpiece could feel himself falling for her more and more. It was in the way she paid complete attention to all of his replies, in the way her eyes lit up as they discussed dancing, in the way that cool and composed doll-like demeanor seemed to melt away around him.
Finally, as they reached the diner, they settled in and began ordering. A first-timer, Velma instinctively reached for the menu, but Mouthpiece immediately stopped her.
‘There’s a secret menu around here. That book doesn’t have anya the good stuff ya oughta be tryin’.’ Mouthpiece whispered conspiratually.
Velma couldn’t help but grin at the excited, adorable figure before her. Conversation flowed so naturally between the two of them, and every moment with him was interesting and unexpected. Damn Mamie. She really nailed this one.
‘Ya order then. I trust you,’ Velma replied casually, smiling brightly at him.
Butterflied erupted in his stomach the second he heard that. It was ridiculous, really, the hold she already had on him on their first meeting. But when she just said those three words in that offhand way of hers, it almost felt like a promise. Like he didn’t ever want to break that trust.
All his life, Mouthpiece never understood the point of promises. Promises meant expectations, and expectations meant disappointment. No one in his life had ever exceeded his expectations. The Jets were the best thing he had ever had, and even they didn’t count. They were brothers, sure, but they were also mirrors of their broken families and traumatic pasts. All of them reminded Mouthpiece of himself, and God knows he was a disappointment too.
But this girl. She seemed untainted by the troubles of their neighborhood, of the world, really. So far she’d done nothing but pleasantly surprise him. So for the first time ever, Mouthpiece made himself a promise.
I won’t ever break this girl’s trust.
As the two of them quickly demolished their specials, Velma found herself observing the boy opposite her. If she was being honest with herself, prior to leaving the house, she had been fully resigned to sitting through a bland conversation that she would have had to carry. However, Mouthpiece had been anything but. He was witty and hilarious, and the fierce loyalty he displayed to the Jets was touching to see. Not to mention he’s easy on the eyes too, she privately thought before fighting the creeping blush on her cheeks.
‘Shall we go? I have one more place I wanna bring ya to.’ Mouthpiece asked as he extended his hand to her, their food now finished.
If Velma was surprised by his advances, she didn’t show it. Smiling at him, she easily slipped her hand in his as they headed off, lightheaded in each other’s presence.
If their conversation had been easy, the comfortable silence they had between them was even easier. Mouthpiece never felt at ease with silence; it was the perfect breeding ground for his thoughts to run wild in the quiet. It caused him to recall the depressed silence from his ma after she got a beating from his pa. It made him remember the times he had to stifle his own noisy tears on the roof in case anyone heard. But with Velma, his thoughts were miraculously grounded. She effortlessly occupied all of his headspace with her laugh and her smile and her words. It was only with her that he felt even vaguely relaxed in the silence.
Turning the corner, Mouthpiece gestured to their destination. Beautiful bouquets adorned the stall, with a couple of baskets of flowers at the foot. An assortment of roses, tulips and lavender were displayed in that little flower stand. Looking at Velma’s surprised but pleased expression, an inexplicable sense of pride filled his chest.
‘I know yous girls love flowers, so I thought you’d like this place,’ Mouthpiece admitted. Truthfully, he hadn’t planned on doing this prior to their meeting. But he’d liked Velma so much that he knew he wanted to see her again, and this ingenious little ploy of his was to suss out her favorite flower so he could bring it for her in future.
That is, if she wanted to see him again.
‘Oh, Mouthpiece, this is so sweet of you. Thank you, I love this stand!’ Velma exclaimed in a most uncharacteristic squeal, before throwing her arms around him in an excited hug. She’d been so delighted all night, and this wonderful surprise sent her over the moon. For all that Velma’s family seemed so well-to-do, she really was a simple girl, easily satisfied by the smallest gestures.
Taken aback by her forwardness, Mouthpiece momentarily froze, before quickly regaining his senses to hug her back. She was so warm, sunshine personified. He never wanted to let go.
If there was any doubt that she’d want to see him again, it was all but gone now.
Settling on a small bouquet of red roses, Velma blissfully linked her arms in his, sniffing the flowers as they strolled back to her apartment. No boy had ever been this thoughtful to her on a date, and Velma relished in this careful attention. It wasn’t practiced or rehearsed; she could feel that he was genuinely trying to do all the right things with her, and that attempt alone meant more to her than anything else.
Night had fallen, and though Velma wasn’t truly cold, she delighted in the excuse to lean on Mouthpiece’s shoulder just a little more, to hold his arm just a little tighter, and to walk just a little slower.
Mouthpiece, on the other hand, struggled between getting his brain not to short-circuit and actually enjoying the date. She was perfect, so perfect, that the broken part in him couldn’t see how she could ever enjoy his company, never mind like him. But there she was, her head gently resting on his shoulder as they took a detour back to her apartment, and he had to pinch himself to remind him that it was all real.
Inevitably, as they finally got back to her home, she slowly turned to him and looked at him longingly.
‘I had a great time tonight, Mouthpiece. Thank you for taking me, and for the flowers.’
‘No, yea, sure. I had a great time too,’ he stammered. His palms started to become clammy, as his mind ran a mile a minute in anticipation for what he wanted to do.
Kiss her now. Hurry up.
But he stood there frozen, paralysed by apprehension and hesitation. Would this scare her away? Would she slap him for moving things too fast? What if her parents opened the door and saw their daughter standing there with a juvenile delinquent?
For a few seconds, Velma kept her gaze on him. But seeing his outwardly blank stare, she tried her best to mask her crestfallen expression, and turned away to head into her apartment.
As if broken in his trance by her turning away, he hurriedly grasped her wrist. This was now or never.
Do it, you idiot.
Before he could overthink any more, Mouthpiece pressed his lips to hers, his emotions of the night all poured out in that one action. Excitement, comfort, gratitude, infatuation, and the beginning of an overwhelming feeling he couldn’t quite identify yet.
He felt her kiss him back gently, relief coursing through his veins as he confirmed her feelings.
And she’s a good kisser too. How perfect can one girl be?
Finally pulling away, she shyly asked, ‘Does that mean I’ll see you again?’
Her irresistible expression compelled Mouthpiece to pull her into a warm hug. God, she was just perfect.
‘You can count on it, sweetheart.’

You Clean Up Good
Relationship: Anita/Bernardo
Rated: General Audiences
Summary: Anita and Bernardo get ready for the dance.
Author’s Note: Kind of an AU where Maria and Chino are already at the dance. A tiny bit of NSFW themes if you squint but not enough to warrant a real warning. I mean it’s Anita and Bernardo. Also I said 1961 costumes but I envisioned 2021 Anita and Bernardo while writing it.

Anita applied her lipstick. The last bit before she was ready to go to the dance.
“Nardo! We’re gonna be late. Hurry up!” She yelled towards the bedroom.
“I’m ready. I was waiting for you.” He exited the bedroom, leaning in the doorframe. He wore a plain black suit, but a purple shirt to match her dress. She looked him up and down, smiling. “Ay, mami. You clean up good.” He smirked.
“Well.”
“Que?”
“I clean up well.” She laughed. “So do you.”
“Like what you see?” He spun around for her. She laughed.
“Si. Ready to go?”
“Si.” He walked behind her, looking at their reflection in the mirror. “You look good, Anita.” He kissed her neck.
“What are you doing?” She asked.
“I can’t help it. You look so sexy.” He wrapped his arms around her.
“You’re going to wrinkle my dress. Nardo!” She whined, unable to break from his embrace. He whispered in her ear, things he had planned for after the dance. She giggled. “Te amo, but we really need to get over there before you sister sends out a search party.” She finally broke from his embrace, straightening out her dress. She grabbed her clutch from the kitchen table and made her way towards the front door before he grabbed her waist pulling her back.
“We don’t have to go.” He kissed her neck again.
“I want to go. You think I put all this on to stay home? No.” She broke from his embrace again and opened the door. “Maybe if you behave yourself tonight, we can leave early.” She flashed him a smile.
“When I’m done with you, you won’t be able to walk for a week.”
“Ay! Keep it in your pants.” She playfully hit him with her clutch.

Upper West Side (Tabatha x Mamie)
St. Catherine’s Academy was a prestigious and private school for girls. Many of the students there, if not all of them, were trust-fund-level rich kids. Tabatha Dedwin was an exception to that.
Tabatha was enrolled in St. Catherine’s due to the government’s control over her. She had been part of the foster system all her life, though she ran off for a brief period of time before she was dragged right back to where she started. And now, she was staying on campus in her own dorm room. While the school had provided her with free uniforms and tuition, she had to work at the campus library during after school hours to pay for her books and anything else she wanted to do that the weekly government allowance she received didn’t cover. Although, technically, she didn’t spend much of that anyways. She was saving it all up for when she was an adult and left on her own. It’s not like she had anyone to help her, really, especially after the death of her sister, Victoria, just a year prior.
Tabatha did quite well in her studies. She hoped that she’d get enough scholarships to get into a decent school and make enough connections to not become another statistic. And while she did despise mathematics with a passion, she found solace in all the classic stories and poetry she could find. Her all time favourite class was Literature—mostly because she could read all the Shakespeare she wanted, and partially because she shared that class with Mamie Van Eysen.
Mamie Van Eysen, like most of the girls that attended the school, was rich. Her father was a part of some multi-billion pound company, with thousands of connections and a handful of business partners or so. There wasn’t a difference in the way Mamie looked, either, really. She had soft hair that was re-highlighted every month or so, weekly-manicured nails, as much makeup as she could to not get dress coded without looking cakey or unprofessional, and she smelled like Chanel perfume. She had a few vacation homes, a butler, and she spent every summer and school breaks abroad. Her father re-married more times than she could count on one hand, and a few generations back her great-great-grandfather was some monopolist way-back-when, or her great-great-great-great grandmother was an heiress or distant loyalty, or something of that sort. And, to Tabatha Dedwin, she was even more unbearable than anyone. Her disdain for most people and her cruelty towards people she thought were below her still bewitched Tabbie in a fucked up kind of way. Today was no different, really.
“Miss Dedwin,” Mamie sang from her desk in the back of the room. Tabbie begrudgingly turned to look at her, making a face.
“What do you want?”
“Your blazer has a stain on it.” Mamie smiled smugly and tilted her head. “Haven’t you ever been taught that wearing dirty clothes in public is unprofessional? Or did you learn that from the streets?”
