Can I please rant for a bit? One thing that really irks me when it comes to how the fandom sees Sirius is that he was somehow mediocre at magic. He became an Animagus, McGonagall says he's 'exceptionally bright' and Slughorn calls him 'talented', plus Dumbledore says he is 'clever' and what he did was 'extraordinary' (as in, he became an Animagus at fifteen). Oh yeah, he also helps make the Marauder's Map and retains his magic in Azkaban (Dementors are supposed to drain away power). He summons six objects at once, he displays healing skills, duels Dolohov and Bellatrix (and only lost bc he got cocky + Bellatrix was a decade or so older so she fought the entirety of the war, talk about pure talent), two of the most dangerous DE after being rusty for twelve years, almost cracks the GOF plot on scraps of newspapers. He even shows knowledge of very abstract and rare magic ('the reverse spell effect?'). His idea of fun with his mates was basically cartography and the height of complex self-transfiguration, they were all nerds. I'm sure if he'd had the chance he'd have been so dangerous and a bloody extraordinary wizard, like there's the Dumbledore/Grindelwald/Voldemort and Sirius and James are directly behind them. I have no doubt Remus wasn't lying when he said 'they were the cleverest students in the entire school'. I wouldn't be surprised if him and James (and Lupin I guess) also invented spells like Snape. It sounds like their idea of fun. Oh yeah, they were also well-versed in hexes and jinxes that they knew obscure illegal ones like the Bertram Aubrey head enlargement hex. But they think he's an idiot bc he acts recklessly when he's very emotionally compromised and mad with grief/depressed. That's not idiocy, that's a man who needs therapy. Sorry for making this so long feel free to ignore it was just therapeutic to write. But like the amount of times I've seen Sirius and James ask Lily for help on the Marauder's Map is mind boggling, they literally didn't need it.

i honest to god cannot deal with the whole ‘stupid sirius’ thing. thankfully i don’t see it as often now as i used to it man, even one fic w is one too many for me. it’s just so,,,,jarring ykno? because his intelligence wasn’t just tell but very, very show and to still bypass all that and genuinely believe he was stupid is just rly weird to me. and it’s often hand in hand with all the drama queen characterisation and everything i’ve ranted about before which just makes it so much worse.

and god. the marauders were honestly nerds. it’s a wonder they were cool (i mean, we don’t know if they were but i definitely hc it so. ykno) bc look at these fucking idiots. everyone is spending time fucking around while they’re playing around with advanced, extremely dangerous & illegal magic. i love that sm for them. honestly, i find it perfectly plausible they could have invented spells (maybe their own for the map?) but i also love them picking up obscure or tricky magics. like, i have this hc that j&s could duel w both hands bc they trained for a scenario where that could happen. or sirius started etching runes before he was taught formally. just,,,small things like that ykno?

Shards of heavy rain rapped against the window; the shadow of Kate’s face obscured by a flickering light bulb.

Silence.

That was a sound Kate detested especially now without the loudness of his laughter or his searing kisses that bloomed desperate desire and birthed a world she was not used to.

Especially now as she stood in close proximity to the violent velocity of England’s ugliest winter storm.

Anthony was well-acquainted with Kate’s deathly fear of storms yet that or her bloodless face couldn’t inhibit the man – the man she loved and who had stirred desire and want in her, from leaving.

Anthony?

His hands, cold and bloodless, rejected her with a flinch. Kate was pained, if she was trying not to exhibit such feelings, she had failed.

Miserably.

Their union hadn’t been a love match, it had been echoed to her numerous of times, but his rejection felt deathly.

Almost personal.

His distance hurt her, and his soiled appearance was even more concerning.

Kate yearned to stalk across to his desk, wrap her hands fuelled by inexplicable desire around his neck, and clean him from the god-forsaken state she had found him in.

But she refrained, not because she wanted to, but because dear old Anthony eyed her with apathy, like he didn’t recognise the woman he was married to.

She was not at liberty, even if she wanted to, to ignore the feeling of abandonment that crept up her chest and clouded her judgment.

Anthony was gone and possibly drunk and disconsolate, lauding his lips with bourbon and smoke. Disconsolate and in darkness could accurately depict his hunched posture but his face was aggrieved.

Kate remembered his terse words with a wince and a deep shake of the head. The tightest lines were borne into his skin as his directions to her were curt.

Home?

Aubrey Hall was not home without him.

Their bed was not home without him.

He had absconded from their conjugal bed and there stood a possibility, a probable possibility, that her marriage to the Viscount was all but over.

His lips, usually painted on her skin, had cursed out obscenities she’d rather not repeat. Even the little things had become so ugly.

Kate could not fathom overcoming such a marital hurdle.

It would be completely foolish to suggest otherwise.

Hidden underneath her sheets, she clasped her eyes shut in a panic hoping that the absence of Anthony as her cloak was a painful nightmare, and not her present reality.

She hitched a tight breath, causing her chest to rise and fall, running her fingers along the lingering scent of bourbon and smoke, still embedded in their marital sheets.

Her heart felt heavy and downcast at the empty king-sized bed. A bed of this stature was not meant to be slept in alone.

Yet Kate had slept unaccompanied for almost two nights now.

Kate opted not to think of his anticipated return, but of when she’d grow accustomed to the idea that their marriage, though brief, had run its course.

I know I said no more answering asks tonight, and I really should get to bed, but I love Ned sm and couldn’t resist doing this one now.

How I feel about this character: I’m, like, shocked by how much he’s grown on me tbh. I never expected to like him, given how much he was set up to be this unreliable, selfish, cowardly asshole, but I found myself really sympathizing with his fear and, god, the way he’s willing to give up so much for his friends is just *chef’s kiss.* He’s super loyal, in his own way, and I really admire that.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: BOYD! MOSCHE! Also Victoria seems really cool and I hope we get more back story with her. Damn, Clint…back at it again with the aging bi/pan icons?!

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: I love how he has this friendly relationship with Aubrey that’s been colored by his guilt and need to atone, although she’s completely blind to those feelings as of now. It’s v fraught and as you know I love angst.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Not sure how unpopular this is, but a lot of his antagonism towards Boyd comes from his own sense of guilt.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Would have been nice to deepen his relationship with Boyd before the latter fucking died…

Favorite friendship for this character: His banter with Kirby is wonderful. Speaking of which where the hell is Kirby? Bring him back!!!

My crossover ship: I…have genuinely no idea.

RULES: Always post the rules. Answer the questions asked, then write 11 new ones. Tag 11 people to answer your questions, as well as the person who tagged you.

I am borrowing this meme from @swissmissing, but I am also breaking most of the rules. I liked both sets of 11 questions in SM’s post, so I am answering both of them instead of only answering one set and then making up more of my own. Also, I’m not tagging people, but if these look fun then by all means jump in!

First set of questions:

1. Star Trek or Star Wars? Both. I could never choose between them.

2. Rec a fanfiction you’ve read recently (not a fandom classic, ideally something new to discover). I enjoyed this Vetinari/Vimes fic in the Discworld fandom recently. The Last Sentence, by oneinspats (E,.43,000 words). Also its sequel, Lionheart (M, 25,000 words). It’s a small ship, so I treasure the fics that I find. In the Sherlock fandom, I have just become aware that i_ship_an_armada is writing a fusion fic based on The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, which is one of my well-loved films :) Wait long enough and fandom will provide everything!

3.If you could go anywhere in the world on holiday, where would you choose? Hmmm. I’d probably be dull and go somewhere in the UK or Ireland, but Greece, Italy, Austria, or Germany could certainly make the list as well.

4. The Beatles or The Rolling Stones? The Beatles.

5. Have you ever met anyone famous? (if there’s more than one pick your fave) The most famous people I’ve ever had meaningful interactions with (as in, talked to one-on-one and went out to lunch with as part of a group) were Ray Bradbury and Ray Harryhausen. They were very kind, friendly, sweet people.

6. What is your favourite film? I love movies and couldn’t narrow it down to one favorite. Some contenders would be: Lawrence of Arabia, Singin’ in the Rain, Monkey Business (The Marx Brothers), The Black Stallion, The Sixth Sense, The Pirates of Penzance, The Court Jester, The Train, The Cameraman (Buster Keaton)...and many more.

7. Do you play any instruments? No. I played Korean drums in college, specifically the buk and janggu. I also briefly flirted with the cello in elementary school :)

8. There’s a Zombie Apocalypse. What would be your weapon of choice? Denial? A locked door? I wouldn’t last long in a zombie apocalypse, let’s be honest.

9. Favourite Sherlock episode? It’s really close between A Study in Pink and The Reichenbach Fall.

10. Benedict Cumberbatch or Martin Freeman? Does this mean which of them do I rate higher as an actor? Martin Freeman. If it’s asking about which of them I find more attractive, it would be Benedict. As people, I like them both insofar as one can get an impression of a person through random interviews.

11. Favourite Fan Fic Author? Too many to count. In the Sherlock fandom, some of my favorites include bendingsignpost, odamaki, ancientreader, lifeonmars/marsdaydream, what_alchemy, etothepii, evadne/parachute_silks, lindentreeisle, saki101, and...so many more!

Second set of questions:

1. Where did you watch The Final Problem (TV/cinema/iPlayer/other)? In the communal TV room of my apartment building. There was a football game on and I couldn’t get the use of the TV until half an hour into the episode, so I came in when Moriarty landed in the helicopter. It made no sense, but starting from the beginning wouldn’t really have helped :)

2. Other fandom(s) you are active in? Over the last month I’ve been reading in Sherlock BBC, ACD Holmes, Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey-Maturin novels, Discworld, Batman, and The Man from UNCLE.

3. Your parents’ job(s)? My dad worked as a computer programmer in the aeronautics industry, my mom works in public relations for the arts.

4. Green Christmas or White Christmas? I like them both, but if pressed, probably white. So long as I can stay inside and just look at the prettiness rather than, you know, driving through it.

5. Last thing you ate? Cheese on toast.

6. Ever been in a natural disaster? Not really. I’ve been close to tornadoes but never REALLY close.

7. Would you watch if a 5th series of Sherlock were made? I would watch it, yes, with the expectation of enjoying the actors, collecting the good bits, and ignoring the majority of it. That is how I approached S4 as well, and it worked out fine. S3 was the painfully disappointing one for me, and since then I have managed my expectations.

8. John Watson: straight, bi, gay, other? I tend to read him as straight in ACD and BBC canon and bi (possibly demisexual bi, requiring strong pre-existing emotional attachment before experiencing physical attraction) in most of my favorite fic.

9. Rec me a Sherlock casefic? The Camford Dares, by writerfan2013 (T, Johnlock, 17,000 words). Sherlock is being mysterious and secretive and John is being particularly stubborn and their annoying case in a well-known university town is not helping anything. Case!fic! Mystery and infuriation but ultimately johnlock.

10. Worst injury? In middle school the bottom of my foot became totally covered with warts. They were painful, and having them scraped away at and iced was more so. My parents were seriously considering surgery that would have taken out large chunks of my left foot before the whole infestation mysteriously disappeared on its own.

11. What should you be doing right now? Ordering lunch. Yay.
