Delicious In Dungeon Volume 13: Lion Named Desire
Tumblr media
It's been a year, a very long and painful year, but the penultimate volume of Delicious In Dungeon is finally here.
And it does not disappoint.
If you'd like to read the full review, feel free to read it at Animehouse via the link below, but if you want some more summarized thoughts click on keep reading. Considering the popularity of the anime currently, I'm trying my best to avoid accidental spoilers or other information.
Seeing the focus shift so effortlessly from Marcille as Dungeon Lord to Laios' encounter with the beast, it helps you realize that Ryoko Kui's been going down her list of characters to traumatize and then subsequently heal.
Because of that, it's no surprise that Laios is forced to look into that fuzzy mirror shaped like a Lion and come to terms with his past and his self.
It's a wonderful climax for the series, and really is the best way to conclude Laios' character arc.
There's a lot of times where people will grossly simplify the contents and context of Delicious In Dungeon for memes and whatnot, but in truth this volume is an example of where that works best.
It's a world full of life and autonomy, filtered through Kui's lens of magic, monsters, and meals. Laios' character arc concluding, as well as the conflict resolution of this volume, are mere consequences of the world. Trying to summarize that effectively without a specific focus is impossible, but I've done my best to explain my thoughts in the full review all the same.

Let’s talk about Romance Mangas!
My say to those I have read and loved: (not ranked)
1. This Manga hurts my heart. I read it while on high school and it kinda hit me with how lonely I am because I never had an Ayane-chan and Chizuru-chan, and Kazehaya-kun to downright change my life to better. But I did enjoy those time because I had romance manga to begin with. Kimi Ni Todoke might be the one that get me into read romance mangas. I liked it because I somewhat relate to Sawako, being outcasted and all. I grew to love their story, and found myself hoping that maybe love will come to me too.
Tumblr media
Kimi Ni Todoke (From Me to You)
2. In this spin off featuring Kurumizawa Ume (a character from Kimi Ni Todoke) and Sawako’s cousin Eiji Akahoshi, my hope for meeting love blooms even greater. They were soulmates as the title suggests so they were literally speed, but then I haven’t read the latest chapters yet because I can’t find them (if anyone know, pls let me know). As I was saying, they literally skipped the slow burn but still works because we can now root for the former second leads. (Yes, Eiji is from another romance manga from the same author: Crazy for Love)
Tumblr media
Kimi Ni Todoke: Soulmate
3. What do you do when you accidentally married a man twice your age?? Some may not want age gap romance, especially when the age gap is 20 years, but you might change your mind reading this manga. It’s wholesome and you can actually find yourself smiling and rooting for their relationship to work. This manga has been going on the internet, it’s popular so you may had heard of it, it’s where I heard of it, so I think I don’t have to had any say except I enjoyed it and I am finding or accepting manga recs similar to this.
Tumblr media
Gomashio to Pudding (Sesame Salt and Pudding)
4. WHOLESOME IS THE WORD. This manga is fresh breath of air. I’m pretty sure most of you guys have heard of it as it’s one of this month’s anime. I just love how cute they are in each chapter, even the other couples. And I thoroughly enjoy Himuro’s monologue. :)) If you guys were bothered by random pacings, you should watch the anime instead. They swept up the plot.
Tumblr media
Koori Zokusei Danshi to Cool na Douryou Joshi (The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague)
5. Wahhhh this is really addictive, I can’t stop myself from thinking that the whole time I am reading. A combination of slice of life, comedy, and romance genre, huh. Who knows it will all work beautifully as in this masterpiece. (Also, Sousuke Shima’s character design reminds me a bit of Miura Kento from Kimi Ni Todoke)
Tumblr media
Skip and Loafer
6. HOT. I have no other words. Some may misunderstand though. But it’s what I think of it, like will you look at them!!! They’re attacking me. I hope we got to see how their relationship progress soon. Btw, I’m all in for Ichi, I’m sorry dear Oji.
Tumblr media
Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki (In the Clear Moonlit Dusk)
Aaaand I just rumbled my thoughts on the last part. I may edit it for a more serious discussion later. Thanks! :)))

Fantasy manga reccs for folks that liked Freiren, Dungeon Meshi, and Witch Hat Atelier
1. Is what you liked about DM dwarves promoting good lifestyle habits and giving exposition about monsters? You might like Soara and the House of Monsters! A girl raised to be a monster hunter meets a group of dwarves who build houses for monsters and stars traveling with them.
Tumblr media
2. Did you know Dungeon Meshi isn't Ryoko Kui's only series? The Dragon's School is on Top of the Mountian is a collection of oneshots all packed with the Ryoko Kui charm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Do you enjoy fun magic item crafting and a relationship between a long-lived elf and a human? you might like Elf to Shuryoushi no Item Koubou! Magritte is a magic item craftsman who, along with her assistant and bodyguard Yura, fulfills all sorts of requests for magic items.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Do you like when series really delve into the how and why of logistics? You might like The Dragon, the Hero, and the Courier! It follows the daily life and trouble of Yoshida the half-elf, a dedicated postal worker who delivers all sorts of strange and mundane letters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Did you know witch hat has a cooking manga spin off? now you do! Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen is extremely cute & domestic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Shinozaki-kun no Mente Jijou is a modern fantasy about an ordinary office worker finding out there's a lot about himself he never knew about - turns out his body has been modified to hold all sorts of magical machinery. The thing with machinery though - it needs maintenance
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. Shoulder-a-Coffin Kuro follows Kuro, a strange traveler who carries a coffin on her back, two shapeshifting twins she's adopted, and the talking bat who lives in her coffin as they wander the land looking for a certain witch. Whimsical & melancholy, this is one of my all time favs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8. Akagami no Shirayukihime follows the life Shirayuki, a herbalist, and the people around her. It's kind of hard to sum it up with one thing because it's a pretty long series where a lot happens! It's got really lovely art, fun worldbuilding & extremely charming characters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
9. Hakumei and Mikochi are two teeny women who live in a house nestled in the roots of a tree. Lots of them cooking, building, exploring and visiting friends in strange places. I really love the background designs and detailed art of objects! My fav chapters are the market visits. This one's another of my all time favs!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
10. Otherwordly Izakaya Nobu! More food in fantasy because you can never really get enough of that. A bar in modern japan inexplicably opens its front door into a fantasy city. Each chapter different people come to the bar to talk about their lives and enjoy japanese food.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
11. Radiant, a pretty classic fantasy shounen by a french artist - it's on this list primarily because I looooove the art, especially the backgrounds. It's got some fun magic item worldbuilding as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
12. And to finish off these reccs, Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina. This one's closest to Freiren in terms of who I think will like it. It's about a witch, her slow paced journey around the world, and the people she meets along the path.

The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy At All • by agu_knzm
Mitsuki and Aya are classmates that have never really spoken to each other…until Aya walks into the music store Mitsuki works at and develops a crush on her! At first, Aya thinks Mitsuki is a boy and eventually learns that she’s actually her quiet classmate. They bond over their love of music and their relationship begins to grow.
I would jump in front of a train for these two. They are so adorable. The author publishes the story’s panels (four panels per post) on their official Twitter and usually, there’s an English translation out within the same day.
The art direction is so unique because of all the green highlights, I personally love it! I’m hoping we get an official English print. 💚

April 14th, 2024: Sunday's Engrossing Gem
A nightmare apocalyptic scenario happens upon humanity in the form of what seems to be upper beings—gods even—settle in major human population zones. A gripping story between the new fucked up people molded from this disaster, the 'gods' themselves and how these humans plan to take back their cities and exterminate the invasive species of surreal monsters. And there may be no one else more involved in all of this than Kamikura Waka and the strange man she runs into when she tried to meet the gods.
After God by Eno Sumi

Tumblr media Tumblr media
TYPE: Manga
TAGS: Drama, Psychological, Action, Fantasy (Urban), Supernatural (?), Thriller (?)
DEMOGRAPHIC: N/A
STATUS: Ongoing
RATING: Mature. Its about everything short of sexual violence and assault, really it isn't insensitive or anything, just nuts. themes of suicide. pseudo cannibalism.
Perhaps this is why this story would be to your liking:
This is some real ass blocks of text philosophy. Though it is usually delivered through the mouths of outsider creatures so in a way I think it is lot more interesting and despite their supposed alienness from humans, their interpretations might not be too off.
(Strangely enough, this manga is quite funny if your sense of humor is a little off like mine. The dialogue has some crazy spunk. Yeah the characters are pretty hot too. If you ask me, the subtext also looks pretty queer sometimes.)
Also take this as just my interpretation, I really think this manga is about unorthodox expressions of love. Deeply engrossing is the interpersonal relationships that are abnormal, and these people's plea for their existence. To me, reading this manga means we have to bear witness to humans who can no longer live normally.
And of course, this art is no joke! Aside from the stunning spreads and a complex monstrosity designs, I always love art that can convey discomfort. It's so beautiful and ill-inducing, their expressions and being. It feels a touch away from horror, if only because the art isn't there to scare you, but to itch at your gut. Yes... this is the kind of manga that gnaws you from your innards with anticipation, thrill and maybe like a secret third thing.
Well! I’m off to read some more!
ENGLISH LICENSE (though if you 🏴‍☠️ I'm not against you):
This is also a new development with the official English, an unannounced hiatus all of a sudden. While it is behind by a manageable 2 chapters, we're still awaiting news on if the English publication is continuing.
The author also has a non-negligible amount of untranslated works under her belt, so I am sure to look into that.
Alright alright, enough from me. Happy reading.

So elated Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru/My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999/山田くんとLv999の恋をする is out, aired to the public in Spring of this year, 2023, through Madhouse studios, one of my favourites for a series.
Tumblr media
I watched a few episodes before I decided to wait till it was mostly/totally released so I could sit and watch it in one stint. Yesterday I gave in hahaha.
I am most pleased. It’s the first anime released about a manga I’ve read since I returned to immersing myself into manga just over a year ago once again. I usually read a lot of not super popular mangas which never see the screens unfortunately despite being beautiful stories in the rough. As I thought, I’m very much enjoying it so far.
If you’re into anime, you’ve probably seen a fair few memes of Yamada already during the one scene he turns away from the computer. The most amusing one to me, was this one, as I’m also a big gamer of Genshin this was a funny joke between me and my partner.
Tumblr media
I still can’t get over the scenario where he just starts totally choking on cup ramen in the manga, and I hope that doesn’t get forgetting. Because yeah, very relatable. Introvert gamer eating and choking on noodles, disaster. How he’s like socially I understand, I like the character, Akane is always very kinda despite some ways she gets treat and I think that’s quite brave but I wish she would stand up for herself more! The time with the fan incident was so sad, and such a real thing to be wary about even though she was set up. I cannot everr forgive that lil’ wet wipe Runa for doing that to her. She totally got my goat when that happened, idc. Her excuse is she’s younger and lonely and immature but.. that doesn’t cut it for me, there’s no excuse to do that but I’m glad she felt guilty and apologised as y’know, I thought she definitely never would when reading the manga.
Eita is so camp I love him, and when he goes angry face at Runa, we know shiz gonna go down as he’s usually like ^-^^^.
Let’s just say, Takezou, is, just, adorable. I’m very glad there’s representation for the older gaming community which very much exists, not only for the fact many avid gamers from when games started releasing still very much have been around this whole time since those days and have a lot of experience! Even if you can’t do big tournaments as easy the older you get, a lot of older gamers get ignored or forgetting and it’s associated with only being a young people thing.
Synopsis
After her boyfriend breaks up with her for another girl, college student Akane Kinoshita wrestles with a broken heart and the memories he left behind. Loading up Forest of Savior, the MMO they used to play together, she forms a plan to get back at her ex-boyfriend through an in-person event for the game. In the process, she runs into someone unexpected: Akito Yamada, a gaming legend who just happens to be her guildmate.
Desperate for support, Akane ropes the asocial Yamada into helping with her scheme and lending her a shoulder to cry on. The differences between Akane and Yamada soon become apparent as they spend time together, yet they cannot help but notice each other's inner qualities. As the two gain more experience with one another in and out of the game, their tentative acquaintance may level up in a way neither expects.
Producers: Aniplex, Movic, Tokyo MX, BS11, Egg Firm, Kadokawa, COMICSMART
Genre: Romance
Theme: Video Game
Rating: PG-13 - Teens 13 or older

Blade of The Moon Princess Volume 1: An Incredible Look Into Endou's Vision
Tumblr media
Rather imprudent of me to title this after the artist rather than the art itself, but it's very hard not to. When your most recent work is your greatest hit, and one of the largest out of nowhere successes in a good while, it's hard to relate everything to that feat.
Regardless, what we have here is Endou's last serialized work before Spy x Family. There's a trio of one-shots bridging the gap, but all three (I Spy in particular, of course) contribute a significant amount to what it is that Endou distills into Spy x Family. Of course, you get borrowings from Tista, and most certainly from Blade of The Moon Princess. Because of those ties, I'd love to explain the connections (and quality) of Blade of The Moon Princess in relation to Endou's Magnum Opus.
Let's get the story out of the way: there are people living on the moon. All Feudal Japan-like but with fancy technology and unimaginable power. Kaguya, the young girl on the cover, is the next-in-line princess to succeed her mother and rise from princess to empress of the moon. Of course, not everyone likes that, as the branch family that was disgraced by the actions of the prior empress that originated from their family has stained their history. Desperate to claw back the power they had lost, they attempt to murder Kaguya's mother and steal away the symbol of her power, a sword passed down from empress to empress that's meant to protect the people of the moon. The coup-meets-assassination fails, and Kaguya is able to flee to the tainted planet (Earth) with the sword and evade the branch family, if only briefly.
Surprisingly well put together, yeah? I thought so too. Where Tista lacks a clear cut vision as to the reason behind Tista's story, Endou rectifies that hole here by providing viewers with the idea that Kaguya's goal is to return to the moon as its empress and usurp the branch family that has wrestled control away from her.
Moving on though, there's quite a few pieces that will catch the attention of readers. The moon, Kaguya, bamboo and Japan. It's Endou's version of The Story of Princess Kaguya. And I think that's really cool. They stretch the fabric of the original story so thin that you can shine a light through it, and Endou uses that light to illuminate the details that he's added. Kaguya does not appear to an old man in a stalk of bamboo. Rather, she appears in a space ship shaped like bamboo.
Tumblr media
Much like Endou's marriage of sci-fi and fantasy with Blade of The Moon Princess, they form a transitional period in their storytelling between Tista and Spy x Family. Not quite as humorous as Spy x Family, and not quite as dark as Tista, Kaguya helms a story that straddles the middle of Endou's mind through this first volume. And I think that's something that will be immediately apparent to readers throughout the whole volume.
Though I say 'whole volume', there's two things that will immediately clue readers in: Anya and perspective. Now no, Anya does not appear in this first volume really. But I mean, just look at Kaguya's expressions, they exude the simplicity and laziness of Anya. While Ashe from the referentially titled Rengoku No Ashe might have been the inspiration for Anya's design, Kaguya represents a good portion of her soul.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Similarly, though in the opposite direction, is Endou's use of perspective. While it still exists in Spy x Family, it's to a far lesser degree than something like Tista. In his early days, he very much so had a penchant for blown perspective and the depiction of characters with small and narrow frames. Blade of The Moon Princess continues this trend, though perhaps on a lesser scale than before. The latter example in particular feels like it was pulled directly from Tista.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways, let's refocus on the story to close things out. We know what Endou wants to do, we know where we're going and where it wants to end. It's a very confident series in that regard, which in turns provides me with confidence that it'll be a solid ride through its five volume run. It won't rush to fit it into two volumes, and it won't barely make it a story through one, it'll take its ideals about Kaguya's character, and take the time Endou needs to probably mold and shape it. It's the most promising exercise in Endou's storytelling prior to Spy x Family, and that has me very intrigued. A hot headed girl, stranded so far away from home, stuck with feelings of inadequacy and rage. But a girl that must nonetheless learn how to harness those feelings for the better, and use them to protect the people that form her kingdom. It's a well put and traditional approach with all the right twists and turns inserted by Endou. I'm very curious to see where it goes.
