Let’s talk about Romance Mangas!
My say to those I have read and loved: (not ranked)
1. This Manga hurts my heart. I read it while on high school and it kinda hit me with how lonely I am because I never had an Ayane-chan and Chizuru-chan, and Kazehaya-kun to downright change my life to better. But I did enjoy those time because I had romance manga to begin with. Kimi Ni Todoke might be the one that get me into read romance mangas. I liked it because I somewhat relate to Sawako, being outcasted and all. I grew to love their story, and found myself hoping that maybe love will come to me too.
Tumblr media
Kimi Ni Todoke (From Me to You)
2. In this spin off featuring Kurumizawa Ume (a character from Kimi Ni Todoke) and Sawako’s cousin Eiji Akahoshi, my hope for meeting love blooms even greater. They were soulmates as the title suggests so they were literally speed, but then I haven’t read the latest chapters yet because I can’t find them (if anyone know, pls let me know). As I was saying, they literally skipped the slow burn but still works because we can now root for the former second leads. (Yes, Eiji is from another romance manga from the same author: Crazy for Love)

Kimi Ni Todoke: Soulmate
3. What do you do when you accidentally married a man twice your age?? Some may not want age gap romance, especially when the age gap is 20 years, but you might change your mind reading this manga. It’s wholesome and you can actually find yourself smiling and rooting for their relationship to work. This manga has been going on the internet, it’s popular so you may had heard of it, it’s where I heard of it, so I think I don’t have to had any say except I enjoyed it and I am finding or accepting manga recs similar to this.
Tumblr media
Gomashio to Pudding (Sesame Salt and Pudding)
4. WHOLESOME IS THE WORD. This manga is fresh breath of air. I’m pretty sure most of you guys have heard of it as it’s one of this month’s anime. I just love how cute they are in each chapter, even the other couples. And I thoroughly enjoy Himuro’s monologue. :)) If you guys were bothered by random pacings, you should watch the anime instead. They swept up the plot.
Tumblr media
Koori Zokusei Danshi to Cool na Douryou Joshi (The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague)
5. Wahhhh this is really addictive, I can’t stop myself from thinking that the whole time I am reading. A combination of slice of life, comedy, and romance genre, huh. Who knows it will all work beautifully as in this masterpiece. (Also, Sousuke Shima’s character design reminds me a bit of Miura Kento from Kimi Ni Todoke)
Tumblr media
Skip and Loafer
6. HOT. I have no other words. Some may misunderstand though. But it’s what I think of it, like will you look at them!!! They’re attacking me. I hope we got to see how their relationship progress soon. Btw, I’m all in for Ichi, I’m sorry dear Oji.
Tumblr media
Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki (In the Clear Moonlit Dusk)
Aaaand I just rumbled my thoughts on the last part. I may edit it for a more serious discussion later. Thanks! :)))

Continuing the milestone tradition of recommendations!
The Mitarais’ House is on Fire: Thirteen years after her mother takes the blame for their house burning down, Anzu disguises herself as a housekeeper and infiltrates the home of her father’s new wife, a family friend who she believes is responsible for the arson. In her own words, “We had a great deal taken by this woman. I’m taking it back. I’m taking everything back.” But she quickly realizes that as she delves deeper, there are more secrets waiting. And as closely as she watches her target, she’s closely watched in return... This story is absolutely crackling. I love the revenge drama, the smart twists, and the depiction of public vs private life. And I froth at the mouth for a particular dynamic. Now licensed in English and NETFLIX SHOW COMING SOON
Kieli: I read the manga years ago and the light novels have been on my backlog for a while, but I’m glad I finally got around to it. The title is the name of the heroine, a lonely and blasphemous teenager who can see ghosts. Following an encounter with an Undying, an immortalized young man who fought in a bloody war 80 years prior, and his antique radio possessed by one of his victims, they travel the world. For better or worse, considering Undying are being hunted down for their regenerative cores and there are rumors of new experiments. The ending is bittersweet and I choose to read it as a hopeful one; the whole series is certainly memorable and very underrated.
The Jinx’s Lover: I read this one a long time ago and considered recommending it in its early days but I caught up on it again and it’s so good. As a young girl, clairvoyant Seulbi runs from the abusive hold of a wealthy conglomerate for a day and into the arms of kind but poor Sugwang, who soon finds himself shockingly lucky. When the company retrieves her, that luck turns into misfortune for 7 years...until he meets her again in her second escape attempt. It’s pretty funny, and I think it’s good for Kdrama fans!
The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life: A light novel series, now completely translated in English! Mariela is the titular alchemist who placed herself in suspended animation during a disaster, only to awaken...200 years later. Unlike in the past, alchemists are extremely rare and in high demand due to the dangers of the nearby Labyrinth, a monster-infested structure that’s proving to be the worst in history. The male lead is a slave she rescues, a former adventurer humbled by the loss of his supernatural eye and is now devoted to her. He saves the labels from wine bottles they drink together, that’s real love!!!
My Blissful Marriage: A light novel as well as a manga about an arranged marriage in a low fantasy Meiji era setting. Miyo is the daughter of a clan with supernatural powers, but when discovered to be utterly mundane, she’s treated no better than a slave by her family. Cue her engagement to an ill-tempered officer rumored to drive away any woman in his presence. Of course, as the days unfold and they learn more about each other, they grow closer. Now licensed in English!
Kimi no Koe: A fairly new Taisho era manga. A young entrepreneur with a telepathic ability uses his skills to work his way up society, including a marriage to an affluent family’s daughter...only to find out that he can’t discern her thoughts at all. And she’s mute. It’s primarily from the guy’s perspective, and he’s kind of a bastard, but a loveable one.
Tsuka no Ma no Ichika: A college student in remission from an unnamed disease reunites with her favorite professor, who’s now terminally ill. A love story, in spite of their impending mortality. It’s nothing but pain. I do wish they would’ve progressed a little further, but it’s a poignant and earnest work about making the most of time you have left.
Sesame Salt and Pudding: Trying to get out of being summoned home, a drunken 22-year-old machinery operator marries one of the older customers in her favorite bar. I mean...it’s a dumb decision, but the heroine is the charming kind of dumb, so she’s actually not as annoying as a lot of characters I’ve seen. The male lead is mellow and sardonic and highkey a dirty old man, but at least, that part of him is honest! They’re cute together, the translation is excellent, and I got hooked.
Marriage of Convenience: This is how you pull off a reincarnation manhwa. A heroine who doesn’t immediately flip personalities and has realistic character development, while still retaining her core traits. A male lead who recognizes his own inadequacies, while still being a badass and an utter simp. The marriage in question starts off with a power imbalance, and the progression to a union of equals is just delicious. The side characters are also very loveable, with funny expressions in the background, and overall, it’s a great binge read.
I’m a Terminal Cancer Patient But I’m Fine: In my line of work, I think it’s good to get perspective. This is a humorous yet honest memoir, written by a mangaka who was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. The explanations are thorough and accurate, interjected with advice and of course, to listen to the medical professionals. The author is also a survivor of childhood physical abuse, so I really admire her resilience and I’m glad she has a good support system, especially from her husband. Although...can some of the hot doctors make it over here...asking for a friend...

✨Manga Recommendation of the week ✨
Title: Sesame Salt and Pudding
Author: Suzuki Yufuko
Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ / 5 ⭐️
This was an unexpectedly adorable version of what I think is a typical troupe. It grabs you by the crazy bad decision making start and makes an honestly adorable and realistic love story. If you feel like reading something on the more mild side of shoujo/josei I think this is an amazing start!

Obsessed. I am OBSESSED with this story.
It’s so funny, wholesome and totally worth reading a million times over.
I want to marry the ML frfr and I love the FL’s personality so much!! They’re both hilarious actually and the whole dynamic of this manga is ✨immaculate✨. The translator even used gen z humor a little and astonishingly, it actually freaking worked. Like holy shiiiiiit this was so much fun to read. Example:

Sesame Salt and Pudding
Guma Shio to Pudding

“Haruhi, a 22-year-old machine operator, woke up one day to find that she drunkenly married an older man the night before. They make a deal and end up living together!”
(resume source: NINO)
Story: 8/10
It was really entertaining! My friend recommended me this short story because we were talking about age gap in romance and I kinda hate this trope. I guess this trope makes me uncomfortable because all the age gap romance I’ve read were weird things like student-teacher or a 16 years old with a 38 adult... That’s weird... But this story isn’t bad at all, the age gap is correct, they are both consenting adults and there’s no such things as “he knows her since she’s a child and waited for her to be 18 to date her”. The story itself was really basic but the dynamic between the two main characters is very entertaining. It was funny at some point, I did laugh at some jokes. It was a very cute romance story overall.
Art: 6/10
The art style was fine, maybe a little bit average. It was not bad at all. Well, I don’t really have any comments to make on the art style really...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cast: 7/10
The two main characters were entertaining and funny. Their relationship and dynamics were what made the story so enjoyable. They both have very distinct personalities which makes their interaction funny and diverting at some point. Although I’m a little bit disappointed in the side characters because it felt like they were here just to support the main characters. Some of them appeared in one or two chapters and then disappeared and were never mentioned again.
Enjoyment: 9/10
I’m feeling really stressed because of school these days and reading Sesame Salt and Pudding made me feel a little better. It was short, funny and cute! I would totally recommend it if you want some age gap romance (in a non-weird way, but I’m still perplex about this trope...)
Overall: 8/10

DBF this. DBF that. What about dad’s mortal enemy?
His name was always mentioned in disdain. Him alone gets your dad’s blood pressure rising, right before he swallows the pills after a work disagreement. You have no memories of him now, you’re far too busy to do anything other than your job and your studies. Early twenties are for career building. Dating financially unstable guys your age comes later.
(never at all if possible)
Then here he comes, the kind regular with a pleasing smile , with a huge monetary tip every order. He has his favorite spot in the cafe, a rattan chair for his back, never the heavy mahogany ones. The salt and pepper hair is a cherished sight for all. He’s in his forties but it doesn’t stop the rest of the staff from crushing on him too. You swore the flowers by the window sill face towards him rather than the sun with how attractive he is.
His kindness is extended towards everyone at the cafe—regulars, staff, and delivery crew.
You came to know his kindness as you were heading back home during a rainy day. The wind was getting strong, so even the light drizzle was enough to make the hem of your skirt drenched. You frown, it was your favorite formal skirt. Your dad wanted you to eat at the fancy restaurant downtown as a family reunion once in a while.
Thirty minutes in and no bus came in sight. Perhaps stuck in traffic or suffering in the rain, like you.
You were about to call your dad to pick you up until a white car stops in front of you. The passenger window slides down and you see the cafe heartthrob offering you a ride. You wanted to decline but he insists to return the kindness as his favorite waitress.
Whatever happens within the car is between you and him, alone. You just have to make sure no evidence remains on you or it will pique your family’s curiosity even more. They had their guesses, but no one could imagine it was a your dad’s most hated co-worker.
